Again? Didn't they just change the grill a little in 2011? Looks like they tried to put a 2006 4runner grill on it. Look at the bright side, you can buy a used 2005 Tacoma and it will still look new.

Next Toyota Avalon Rumored To Have Looks Of A7, XJ (Stop Laughing) William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com August 5, 2011 The Toyota Avalon; the official car of AARP. Ok, not really, but the Avalon has become the Japanese Buick and Toyota isn't happy about it. At gathering of Toyota dealers in June, Toyota showed off the next gen Avalon due out next fall. Toyota says the Avalon's design borrows from the Audi A7, Jaguar XJ, and upcoming Lexus models. The Avalon will keep its 3.5L V6 and FWD layout but Toyota says the handling will be improved. We'll be holding our breath to see if this comes to any fruition. Source: Automotive News (Subscri…

Prius Family Growing Larger? William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 30, 2011 Toyota hasn't hidden the face they are looking to expand the Prius family. Back at the North American International Auto Show in January, the company showed off three models; a Prius plug-in, a five seat Prius minivan , and a compact Prius concept. But it looks like more models will be coming as well. One of the models Toyota is looking at is building a Prius sports coupe, which will compete with Honda's CR-Z hybrid. The coupe will use the RWD platform from the upcoming Lexus GS. The coupe will also get a new plug-in setup which featuring lithium-ion batterie…

Toyota OK With Losing No.1 Spot William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 13, 2011 Since 2007, Toyota has held the title of being the world's largest automaker. However, quality problems would cause sales to drop during 2009 and 2010. Toyota would blame the rapid growth they experienced over the past few years. Then the earthquake hit Japan in March, crippling production of vehicles and causing Toyota lose they No.1 position. Currently, Toyota predicts their global sales for the fiscal year will stand at 7.24 million, a drop of 1%. Toyota doesn't seem to mind losing the No.1 spot at all. "There is no meaning in us being the global No. 1,"…

Scion ex D in Amazon Green, manual, with the 16" alloys, mats and short shifter. Kind of reminds me of a mid-teens antique Mack truck, with its coffin nose. Motorweek's YouTube vid from when it came out in '08 says it'll turn a mid-16 second quarter, and it gave them 38+ mpg, which is well above the EPA estimate. Only thing, it said the manual gearchange is a bit long in throws, hence the short shifter.

From the NY Times: The Obama administration's investigation into Toyota safety problems found no electronic flaws to account for reports of sudden, unintentional acceleration and other safety problems. Government investigators said Tuesday the only known cause of the problems are mechanical defects that were fixed in previous recalls. The Transportation Department, assisted by engineers with NASA, said its 10-month study of Toyota vehicles concluded there was no electronic cause of unintended high-speed acceleration in Toyotas. The study, which was launched at the request of Congress, responded to consumer complaints that flawed electronics could be the culprit behin…

Recalling Toyota's Recalls: Over 14 million in past 12 months, 25.6 million since January 2005 November 1, 2010 - Drew Dowdell - Chief Editor CheersandGears.com No one can argue that it hasn't been a roller-coaster year for the world's largest car company. It was a year ago tomorrow that Toyota issued it's largest recall ever for possible gas pedal entrapment caused by loose floor mats. That initial recall of 3.8 million vehicles seemed to unleash a blizzard of further recalls. In the past 12 months, the grand total for Toyota's recalls has been more than 14 million units. To put that in some perspective, there were only 10.4 million vehicles sold, by all manufactu…

Toyota recalling 1.53 million cars globally Malcolm Foster / Associated Press Tokyo— Toyota is recalling 1.53 million Lexus, Avalon and other models, mostly in the U.S. and Japan, for brake fluid and fuel pump problems, the latest in a string of quality problems for the world's No. 1 automaker. Toyota Motor Corp. said today it will call back for repairs about 740,000 cars in the U.S. and 599,000 in Japan. The remainder are in Europe and other markets around the world. Over the past year, Toyota has recalled more than 10 million cars and trucks worldwide for a variety of problems, from faulty gas pedals and floor mats that can trap accelerators, to braking…

TOKYO (AP) -- Toyota Motor Corp. said Thursday about 270,000 cars sold worldwide -- including luxury Lexus sedans -- have faulty engines, the latest quality lapse to hit the automaker following massive global recalls. Japan's top-selling daily Yomiuri said in its evening edition that Toyota will inform the transport ministry of a recall on Monday. The paper cited no sources. Toyota spokesman Hideaki Homma said the company was evaluating measures to deal with the problem of defective engines that can stall while the vehicle is moving. He would not confirm a recall was being considered. The automaker has been working to patch up its reputation after recalling more than 8…

I found this article in today's AZ Republic amusing...it's supposedly one of the largest flags and flags in the metro area. In Toyota cases, evasion becomes tactic Source: Yahoo By CURT ANDERSON and DANNY ROBBINS, Associated Press Writers Curt Anderson And Danny Robbins, Associated Press Writers – Sun Apr 11, 2:38 pm ET MIAMI – Toyota has routinely engaged in questionable, evasive and deceptive legal tactics when sued, frequently claiming it does not have information it is required to turn over and sometimes even ignoring court orders to produce key documents, an Associated Press investigation shows. In a review of lawsuits filed around the country involving a wide range of complaints — not just the sudden acceleration problems that have led to millions of Toyotas being recalled — t…

WASHINGTON – Complaints of sudden acceleration in Toyotas repaired under recalls have nearly doubled in the past two weeks, according to an Associated Press analysis of government data. The complaints from 105 drivers raise questions about whether Toyota's repairs will prevent the cars from speeding up on their own or if there is another reason for the problem. Toyota has said it is confident in its repairs and has found no evidence of other problems, such as faulty electronics. The automaker did not immediately comment Wednesday on the latest complaints. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it was contacting owners who have complained about their re…

Just read this and it literally blew me away. The similarities between this incident and the Lexus ES incident in San Diego are pretty alarming. Seems pretty damning to me... And eerily similar to the Lexus incident. I was talking about this with my dad in the early days of the recall and he (retired police) always suspected there was more to this than the pedals because anyone with the level of training he had to go through to serve on a police force would have been able to survive that ES350 accident mainly because they apparently show you in training at least five different ways to make an out of control car stop. His guess was that the car was at the mercy of th…

I am not afraid of my Toyota Prius I’ve been driving Toyota Priuses since 2001. As a junior defense lawyer in the mid-90s, I litigated a number of bogus sudden acceleration cases that were brought against General Motors. So the recent kerfuffle over alleged mysterious electronic problems with the Prius and other Toyotas has certainly caught my attention beyond just throwing my floor mat in the trunk. I knew the public hysteria had reached unprecedented proportions when my father, a Ph.D. geologist skeptical of everything from George W. Bush to global warming (and that’s just the G’s), credulously emailed me repeatedly to demand I read a press release from a plaintiff’…

PITTSBURGH—Toyota has recently made headlines due to a problem with the accelerator sticking on certain vehicles. Nineteen fatalities have been linked to the issue, and Toyota has recalled 2.3 million cars in the U.S. for repairs, which has caused a sense of panic for recalled car owners and the general public. To put things in perspective, Carnegie Mellon University Professor Paul Fischbeck, a risk expert, calculated the risk of driving a recalled Toyota and found that the accelerator problem increases the driving risk by only 2 percent. "There hasn't been a discussion about the actual risk of driving one of Toyota's recalled vehicles," said Fischbeck, a professor of so…

What do you do if you are a Japanese company and you have an American president for your American motor sales division? If you are Toyota, what happens first is you recall over 7 million vehicles, then, as if things couldn’t get worse, you post a loss of over 1 billion dollars due to repair costs, and finally, your stock, which has been in the dumps since 2007, boasts a clear 2-point thrashing on the stock market. All this corporate demolition isn’t over yet. Because of trust issues, Toyota will be dealing with poor sales and customer rage for well over the next decade. Estimates postulate that so far, Toyota has lost 2.47 billion dollars (that’s billion with a capital B…

Toyota Says Cup Holders Still Working Great Rest Your Beverages With Confidence, Says Carmaker TOKYO (The Borowitz Report) – Embattled automaker Toyota today said that despite problems with accelerators and brakes, the cup holders on its most popular car models were “perfectly safe to use.” “Feel free to enjoy the beverage of your choice and know that you can rest it in one of our cup holders with confidence,” said Tokyo spokesman Hiroshi Kyosuke. “Our cup holders are world-class.” But Mr. Kyosuke’s upbeat comments about Toyota’s cup holders were undercut somewhat later in the day by congressional testimony from Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. “You should only …

The Truth About Cars » Editorials » Industry » Safety Why Toyota Must Replace Flawed CTS Gas Pedal With Superior Denso Pedal By Paul Niedermeyer on February 1, 2010 Toyota uses two different electronic gas pedal designs in its cars. The version built by CTS (lower) is the subject of a massive recall, and the 2.3 million units in affected Toyota cars are to be “fixed” by the insertion of a steel shim. This CTS design is also being modified for new Toyota production, currently suspended. To our knowledge, Toyotas built with the other design (by Denso, upper) are not subject to any recalls or NHTSA investigations,. We have spent the last two days tearing down both unit…

Toyota hit by over 100 Prius brake complaints TOKYO – Toyota Motor Corp. has been hit by over 100 complaints in the U.S. and Japan about brake problems with the popular Prius hybrid, the latest in a spate of quality troubles for the automaker as it grapples with massive global recalls. The Japanese company's sales are being battered in the U.S. — Toyota's biggest market — after recalls of top-selling models to fix a gas pedal that can stick in the depressed position. The new Prius gas-electric hybrid, which went on sale in Japan and the U.S. in May 2009, is not part of the recalls that extend to Europe and China, covering nearly 4.5 million vehicles. The U.S. National…

Along with the polls above, lets speculate on 'who gets Toyota's lost market share? .... and, how much (what percent) of market share do they lose? For example, if their share of the market currently is 16% and you think their share will go down to 14%, then they will lose 2% of market share. For percent, assume the period of time is all of calendar year 2010.

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak told a crowd today of an unintentional acceleration problem with his 2010 Toyota Prius, which isn't under a recall. "This is software. It's not a bad accelerator pedal," he told the crowd. "It's very scary." When speaking to the Discovery Forum 2010 he spoke about the software issue with his new Prius: He's not the first one to bring up a potential software issue related to the acceleration problems, but his word carries extra weight because of his experience with software and computers. It's important to note cars like the Toyota Camry have a drive-by-wire throttle system and the gas pedal isn't actually connected mechanically to the en…

Toyota Motor Corp.'s decision to blame its widening sudden-acceleration problem on a gas pedal defect came under attack Friday, with the pedal manufacturer flatly denying that its products were at fault. Federal vehicle safety records reviewed by The Times also cast doubt on Toyota's claims that sticky gas pedals were a significant factor in the growing reports of runaway vehicles. Of more than 2,000 motorist complaints of sudden acceleration in Toyota and Lexus vehicles over the last decade, just 5% blamed a sticking gas pedal, the analysis found. What's more, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has conducted eight investigations into sudden-acceleration…

AP article Jan. 29, 2010 04:13 PM Associated Press Toyota executives have been virtually silent amid a recall of millions of their cars because gas pedals can become dangerously stuck. For their customers, oh, what a feeling - fear, frustration, confusion and anger. Since Tuesday, when the Japanese automaker said it would stop making and selling some of its top-selling models, the company has had few answers for dealers and drivers - most notably when Toyota owners could get their cars fixed and hit the road without worrying. Toyota not giving up on its quirky Scion 01:00 AM EST on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 By Mark Phelan Detroit Free Press DETROIT — What’s wrong at Scion? In a year when small cars should flourish, Toyota’s small-car brand is in the tank. Through October, Scion’s U.S. sales have fallen a resounding 50.6 percent versus 2008 — far more than Toyota’s corporate decline of 23.2 percent, worse even than the Chrysler Group’s 38-percent freefall. Outsiders suggest the brand created to revitalize Toyota’s stodgy image may have lost its way, but Scion plans to expand its lineup and replace its mainstay tC coupe. Scion debuted with hoopla in 2003. Developed by a team of youn…

It is amazing to read articals like this and observe the obvious media bias in favor of toyota. They make excuses for toyota and then say that these screw ups, which have led to the death of some people, won't affect people's perception of the quality of toyota vehicles...?? Then, in the middle of the article, they have to state that Ford had the largest single recall back in 1996. It was for ignition switches. Nobody was killed or injured in the problem Ford had with those switches, so I think that it is yet another example of how the media folks love those foreign cars and try to talk people in to disliking American vehicles. RAV4 Owners Fume Over Toyota’s Handling of Transmission Glitch By Christopher Jensen Although consumer satisfaction studies have often given Toyota’s RAV4 “cute ute” high marks for quality, some owners are furious at the automaker because it failed to warn them of a serious transmission problem. Had Toyota warned them, they say, they could have avoided expensive repairs. Benjamin Birkbeck of Yarmouth, Me., who owns a 2002 RAV4, is one of those consumers. His wife, Rhonda, was trying to merge into traffic when a suddenly faulty transmission meant she was “almost run over by a semitruck,” he wrote in a complaint on the Center for Auto Safety Web site. “This is a safet…

Lindsay Chappell Automotive News July 10, 2009 - 7:22 pm ET Toyota Motor Corp. said Friday it might close its large California car and truck assembly operation, New United Motor Manufacturing Inc., now that General Motors has exited the 50-50 partnership. “We are carefully evaluating our options with respect to the NUMMI joint venture as a result of General Motors’ actions,” Toyota said in a statement released Friday. “Under the current business circumstances, Toyota regrettably must also consider taking necessary steps to dissolve the joint venture.” “We need to determine whether it can be economically feasible to contract with NUMMI without GM,” the stateme…

Haven't heard anything about the lexus self-park feature that was getting bragged up a while back. They still have it and no one's talking about it anymore, or did it have issues and they quietly dropped it?

Prius Production Increase Story. By MarketWatch LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Toyota Motor Corp. Toyota has decided to boost production of its Prius hybrid from an initial plan of 42,000 to 43,000 units per month to around 50,000 units, Kyodo News reported Wednesday, citing company officials. To meet the increase, the company will ask employees at two factories producing the Prius -- one in the city of Toyota and another run by an affiliated parts maker in the city of Kariya -- to work overtime, the report said. From the Seattle Weekly, via Autoextremist: Toyota. Things are not quite rosy at Shiny Happy People Headquarters it seems. The Seattle Weekly posted an interesting article last week that has numerous accounts of scary, phantom acceleration and other bad behavior on the part of the saintly Prius hybrid. Sounds like a giant bowl of Not Good to us. Go to Seattle Weekly Article on Prius problems

What happens when you unleash a pack of automotive journalists on the newest hybrid on the block--and challenge them to beat the chief engineer's best fuel economy? If you plan it right--set a low bogey--you'll let journalists write the best story on the 2010 Toyota Prius from behind the wheel. The fuel economy story. That's exactly what Toyota did at the Napa unveiling of the new Prius, where car writers far and wide topped the engineer's 62.9 mpg by as much as 12 mpg. On a total loop of 33.2 miles, I logged in at 69.5 miles per gallon, without even really trying--just coasting to stops, accelerating very gradually and using the Prius' EV mode to coast into our host …

http://www.autonews.com/article/20090316/A.../903160330/1142 LOS ANGELES — Not only are Toyota Division's new-vehicle sales plunging, but so are residual values on its used cars and trucks. That is depriving Toyota of one of its best marketing tools: the healthy residuals the brand long has been able to brag about.

This new commercial for Lexus explains how they reinvent the way "we" see in the night with such innovative features as a "heads up display" and "new illuminating headlamps". Both of these features are nothing new but they have a jazzy little commercial and imply they are there own well thought out ideas. That's all fine and good but if I did not know better I would believe they thought of these "innovations" I can recall Pontiacs and I think even Olds' with HUD from nearly 20 years ago. And now GM cuts 1,000,000,000 from their own advertising budget. If anyone wants to watch. Its not a bad commercial and must congratulate the marketing gurus. http://w…

The Turds new V8 Scroll to the bottom and it looks like the 5.3 still have more power. Toyota also hopes more people opt for the more efficient V8 versus the hoggish 5.7. Even to a GM fan this is good news Toyota is offering another pussy mid-level motor. Once GM gets the six speed autos in all 5.3's Toyota will really have something to cry about. Interesting news tho.

Just read in my newest MT that Toyota is on the way to having it's first fiscal year lose. Speculating around -$1.66 billion. Not near the rate of the domestics, but goes to show you that they are having the same issues in today's market.

The cash burn rate through 2008 at General Motors, Chrysler and, to a lesser degree, Ford, has been one of the big new stories in the auto business. After a disastrous third quarter, GM was down to about $11 billion and, along with Chrysler, was in danger of having insufficient cash on hand to pay bills at the end of the year. Meanwhile, Toyota has been raking in the profits for ages now and was thought to have up to $90 billion in reserves as recently as a couple of years ago. The other day, however, John McElroy reported that Toyota may be down to only $18.5 billion in cash with rapidly spiraling debts. The company has spent heavily on new factories and new products…

Toyota, Honda lead declines in Dec. auto sales DETROIT – Toyota and Honda's U.S. sales fell more than their U.S. competitors' in December, with Toyota's 37 percent decline and Honda's 35 percent drop showing the Japanese company's popular fuel-efficient models were little help as consumers steered clear of showrooms due to the dismal economy.

I warned about this sometime back. With SUV and pickup sales falling like they have there's probably nothing GM could have done within the last year or so to prevent this. Had they done with the Cobalt back in 2004 what they've done with the Malibu (competitive fuel economy, leading styling, continuing big ad campaign) things might be different. Although not the only reason for the loss in sales leadership, the continued investment in fuzzy brands and models at the expense of Chevrolet, no doubt, has not helped. GM must get its branding "house" in order or we may never see Chevy at the top again. http://freep.com/article/20081230/BUSINESS01/812300344/1014

Toyota cuts North American production further December 5, 2008 8:31 PM ET Link to Article DETROIT (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp on Friday said it was cutting North American production of its best-selling cars including the Camry and Corolla sedans in response to rising inventories and a slump in sales. Toyota will idle assembly plants for additional days in December and January in Georgetown, Kentucky; Princeton, Indiana; and Fremont, California, spokesman Mike Goss said. Toyota, like its smaller rivals, has been caught out by the collapse in demand for cars and trucks in the United States, a downturn that accelerated in October and November amid tightening credi…

Lexus to launch compact in Europe, targeting 1 Series and A3 Posted Oct 20th 2008 2:02PM Link to Autoblog Europeans will get another premium compact car not bound for U.S. shores and this time it comes courtesy of Lexus. The automaker is targeting the BMW 1 Series and Audi A3, vehicles that its rivals have offered in the United States market. Lexus, though, only plans the vehicle for markets outside the U.S. where sales of smaller cars outpace their larger siblings. Apparently, Lexus has set a goal to sell 150,000 vehicles in Europe by 2015 and believes the new model is necessary to meet that number. At this point, we have no idea what platform the compact car would …

Mark Rechtin Automotive News October 3, 2008 - 1:52 pm ET PARIS -- Despite its recent 0 percent financing deals, Toyota is not going to engage Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge in their full-sized pickup sales war, said Jim Lentz, president of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. "I don't want to get stuck in the middle of Ford and Chevy battling for the No. 1 truck this year, and Dodge launching the Ram," Lentz said in an interview here. Chevrolet sold 50,428 Silverados last month, off just 3.9 percent in a plummeting segment that saw Tundra fall 60.7 percent, the Ford F-150 drop 41.6 percent, and Dodge Ram off 30.9 percent. Toyota had hoped to sell about 20,000 Tundras a…

Based on the spy shots, I thought that the 2009 Avensis might turn out to be a nice looking sedan for Toyota. My opinion has changed drastically now that all the camo has been removed. This car continues the recent Toyota design direction of combining a bland overall design with awkward and hideous front/rear treatments. Oh well, I guess we can be thankful that we won't see this thing out and about on U.S. roads. undefined

HARRELSON TOYOTA One of my local Toyota dealers is running an ad for 8K off of the Tundra. Once upon a time, when GM was giving $8000 back to customers in order fo them to purchase a truck it was called "Bribing the consumer to buy their product." according to our fabulous media. Now that Toyota is doing it, all we hear is 1) Nothing 2) About how Toyota is "serious about selling trucks" or 3) About how good the Tundra is selling(!!!!!1111!!11) Remember; it kinda-sorta, in a way, maybe, quite possibly is out selling the GMC Sierra this year. It pisses me off that the media isn't harassing Toyota about this (Obviously because thy're not american and becuase the media is…

Highway Bribery Toyota Joins The Discount Fray Tom Van Riper, 10.03.08, 3:32 PM ET Forbes.com Link to article You know the outlook is bleak for the auto industry when Toyota jumps into the inventory clearance game that Detroit has monopolized for the past couple of years. Just a short time ago, industry powerhouse Toyota was gobbling up market share by charging close to full price while truck-heavy General Motors, Chrysler, and Ford were stuck bribing buyers with heavy discounts. Industry analysts harped on the reputations of Toyota and, to a lesser degree, its Japanese counterparts Honda and Nissan, for reliability and fuel efficiency. Consumers didn't need big i…

I'm sure they were planning this all along since we all know the Big 3 were the only ones blindsided by the rapid increase in oil and gas prices. That's not a knock on Toyota but on those that think GM, Ford and Chrysler were the only ones that didn't see this coming! The fact is, nobody predicted oil and gas prices would rise that quickly and force that rapid of a permanent shift in the market.

James B. Treece Automotive News August 15, 2008 - 11:24 am ET UPDATED: 8/15/08 1:08 p.m. EDT TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Toyota Motor Corp. is "real confident that by 2020 we'll have hybrid models in each of our product lines," said Justin Ward, advanced powertrain program manager at the Toyota Technical Center. Toyota estimates its sales of more than 1 million hybrid vehicles have saved about 7 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions, Ward told the Management Briefing Seminars here today. "You can have a positive impact today through hybrids," he said. Ward reviewed Toyota's progress on alternative powertrains and the challenges that remain. Toyota's l…
