suntimes my favorite line.... "With the Camry, Toyota may have perfected the family car,'' Toyota says. Let's hope not. Cars such as the new Ford Fusion cost less, are just as practical and are far more fun to drive.

'07 Lexus IS Gains VDIM-Defeat Button Since it's introduction as an '06 model, the one major downfall of Lexus' second-generation IS has been it's VDIM (Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management) system, or more specifically, a means by which to turn it off. As Edmunds stated it, "The biggest downer is the inability to disarm the VDIM system, which mutes the sedan's performance long before the limits of its chassis and tires are reached." For '07 (just one year into the second-gen IS' model run), Lexus has adressed this issue with the addition of a VSC/VDIM-defeat button, along with other minor changes. -------------------- The biggest news is the addition of a VS…

Mark Rechtin Automotive News May 28, 2007 - 1:00 am LOS ANGELES -- A batch of camshaft failures in 5.7-liter V-8 engines has dinged the launch of the Toyota Tundra pickup. Camshafts in 20 engines have snapped, says Toyota spokesman Mike Michels. The outside camshaft supplier, which Toyota declined to identify, has traced the problem to "a metallurgical defect in the casting, a flaw in the metal which they have corrected," he says. To date, Toyota has built 30,000 of the engines, and the company is determining how many might be affected. Michels says that it was "an early batch," and that "Toyota is confident in the production from that point on." Full article: http:…

here Can General Motors and Ford Keep Up? There are two ways to increase your income; 1) spend less or 2) How do you cut profits, without cutting quality, or dulling the 'cutting edge'? make more. While no one questions whether or not Toyota Motor Company will have any problem achieving the second, the automaker is already a tightly run ship. Nevertheless, about 300 of its most creative engineers have figured out how to cut build costs of its popular 3.5-liter engine, by a significant margin.

I like reading this guy, but he definitely has a problem with the domestics. Unless you really need to save/get a thrill out of saving $30 per month in gas or you need a hatchback (with no folding split rear seat), I don't see why one would choose a Yaris over a Cobalt LS coupe for about the same money. I've never driven either, but I have the sense that the Cobalt is a tad quieter and more comfortable. Plus you get longer roadside assistance with Cobalt. The Toyota dealers will not give the Yaris away like Chevy dealers will the Cobalt since the Yaris is made in Japan and units are likely constrained. I just don't see it from this angle. http://www.thetruthaboutcar…

Camry glitch In four-cylinder Camrys, the software allegedly learns the driver's style, and those drivers with a frugal right foot get less response over time. Sudden demands for power – like a quick shift into the passing lane – can confuse the system and leave drivers with less power than they need.

HARRELSON TOYOTA One of my local Toyota dealers is running an ad for 8K off of the Tundra. Once upon a time, when GM was giving $8000 back to customers in order fo them to purchase a truck it was called "Bribing the consumer to buy their product." according to our fabulous media. Now that Toyota is doing it, all we hear is 1) Nothing 2) About how Toyota is "serious about selling trucks" or 3) About how good the Tundra is selling(!!!!!1111!!11) Remember; it kinda-sorta, in a way, maybe, quite possibly is out selling the GMC Sierra this year. It pisses me off that the media isn't harassing Toyota about this (Obviously because thy're not american and becuase the media is…

I was thinking... well lets take a look at this i havent seen one up close and in person yet. so lets take a good look at this toyota... as i got closer, i started to question that it was a camry... keeping in mind its red, a color that often makes things look larger then they accually are. as i got closer i started thinking, is this really a camry... it looks more like the size of a corolla, and as i started looking at the front end and the interior space, i start thinking... well i wasnt aware of a redesign on the corolla quite yet... maybe its a yaris... well, its a bit big for a yaris i suppose... its probably a corol…

Don't know if this has already been posted, let alone if it is all BS... let's hope so for GM's sake. Tuesday 4th April 2006 Prius hits 113mpg Toyota is charging ahead in the race for domination of the hybrid car market, according to Auto Express spies. The firm's next Prius will be so efficient it will be the first production car capable of returning more than 110mpg. The newcomer is being developed to try to improve European sales. While the car has been a success in the US, it has met a mixed reaction on this side of the Atlantic, due to the popularity of diesel models. But now we've been told that engineers working on the new Prius have a fuel economy targe…

I found this article in today's AZ Republic amusing...it's supposedly one of the largest flags and flags in the metro area. The dealer is at a new location, which used to be a Ford dealer---that dealer was torn down last year when it merged w/ the LM dealer down the street... this is about 1/2 mile from my house. Toyota, a great American car company.. Anyone else remember these? The pace, the music, the consistency, the slogans all made for much better car commercials back in the 80s than now. "Oh What a Feeling" with the actor jumping in the air and naming the model made you remember the car. Now it's some lame voiceover reminding you they're "Moving Forward." Snooze. Same with Ford, Chevy, etc. BTW, Dan Gurney's effort for the Celica and Supra was terrific. I can see why they sell tons of these....efficient, inoffensive & well built, it's no wonder it's a default choice of many shoppers. That being said, it has the WORST front seating on the planet. I could not own or recommend this car for this reason alone. It feels like the seats were designed for Steven Hawking--they force my (average) body up & forward while seated in a position where I can comfortably operate the wheel and pedals. The steering wheel also has a weird angle to it that increases the discomfort. I wonder how many users are either significantly smaller than me (less than 5'9") or simply take a very short test drive before purchase?

G. David Felt Alternative Fuels & Propulsion writer www.CheersandGears.com Yesterday Toyota announced a 690,000 truck recall for the Toyota Tacoma truck covering 2005 to 2011. Toyota notified NHTSA that they would be recalling Tacoma's with 3 or 4 rear leaf spring systems due to them fracturing due to stress or corrosion. If this happened and the truck was continued to be operated, it could move out of position and puncture the fuel tank causing leaks and potential fire. Toyota is not aware of any accidents, fires or other issues caused by this and is taking a proactive action. http://pressroom.toyota.com/releases/toyota+tacoma+recall+sept29.htm Owners wil…

http://www.latimes.com/technology/la-hy-ne...calendar-widget Long article. Reviewer got 30mpg combined driving (lead-footed none the less), and the car is awefully heavy for a 4cyl (at 3637 lbs). From the sounds of it, it will be quite the slow mover, and the gas savings aren't a whole lot over the Accord hybrid, which the reviewer remarks as "spanking-quick", lol.

2007 Toyota Camry Solara on Toyota's Web Site Middle-aged women of America rejoice! The Camry coupe has been revamped. In my opinion, it looks somewhat better on the outside. 2007 Tundra Falls Short in NHTSA Frontal Crash Test Rating By: Mike Levine Posted: 03-16-07 18:36 PT © 2007 PickupTruck.com Page: [1] In what may turn out to be a significant marketing and sales blow to the biggest vehicle launch in Toyota's history, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has released its frontal impact crash test ratings for the new 2007 Tundra full size pickup - only four out of five stars for driver and passenger safety. NHTSA tested the Regular and Double Cab versions of the Tundra, with the same four star results. In the same test, the all new 2007 Chevrolet Silverado scored five out of five stars, matching the same five sta…

2007MY for New Tundra to Take Advantage of Old EPA Figures New rules that will lower window-sticker fuel economy numbers on vehicles are already affecting carmakers' behavior, but perhaps not in the way regulators intended. The new figures are intended to reflect real-world fuel economy more closely than today's fuel-economy ratings. Shoppers use the figures to compare vehicles' operating costs. Listed fuel economy rates are expected to fall 7% to 15% under the new standard. To take advantage of higher miles per gallon results under the old testing procedures, Toyota Motor Corp.'s big new Tundra full-size pickup will be called a 2007 model when it debuts, despite the…

The other night, I was in Dubois and stopped at Stoltz Toyota/Scion. They had a row of 4 or 5 new Highlanders on the lot. I figured I'd check them out and take some pictures. To my luck, they left one of them unlocked. I was able to fully check everything out besides actually driving it. Thus, I give you my attempt at a half-assed review. Exterior First, I must say it wasn't as bad in person as it originally looked in pictures. While completely lacking in personality, it doesn't induce vomiting, require blindness, or inspire death wishes as select other Toyotas may. It's different enough to be ever so slightly unique, yet bland enough to keep it from straying…

Based on the spy shots, I thought that the 2009 Avensis might turn out to be a nice looking sedan for Toyota. My opinion has changed drastically now that all the camo has been removed. This car continues the recent Toyota design direction of combining a bland overall design with awkward and hideous front/rear treatments. Oh well, I guess we can be thankful that we won't see this thing out and about on U.S. roads. undefined

It looks like the entry level LE will be starting at $30,000 (US). Also, only hybrid 4-cylinder engines (which make respectable horsepower) will be powering this latest generation of Camry.

Hey everyone, Spent the better part of the morning making a step by step guide on how to install aftermarket tail lights on a 1998 through 2005 Lexus GS300 or GS400. I find that Hubpages is the easiest to use compared to e-how or Wikihow so I've posted it here: http://rvinyl.hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Install-LED-Tail-Lights-on-a-1998-2005-Lexus-GS300GS400 The install is kind of involved so expect to take at least an hour from prep to clean u but the results will be great. We offer these tail lights by Spec-D in red LED or smoked LED but these instructions will work for any brand. I've also made two versions of the video here: Let me know what you think.

Another N.A. plant for Toyota? Count on it Mark Rechtin | | Automotive News / April 3, 2006 - 6:00 am LOS ANGELES -- Expect still another Toyota assembly plant in North America. Toyota Motor Corp.'s North American planning group is evaluating the company's North American sales plan for 2010 and beyond. The group's early conclusion: More manufacturing capacity will be needed beyond the five assembly plants operating and two under construction. "We have been consistent, conservative and steady. But it does make sense" to add capacity beyond what the company has already announced, says Steve Sturm, vice president of North America planning for Toyota Motor Sales U.…

Love the current Avalon, but can't buy until late 2007. Anyone know of any potential refreshes or complete model changes by the 2008 MY? What is the life cycle these days...4.5 years? So maybe 2009/2010 MY would be the new one.

With the new Tundra out soon, does anybody know anything about the next Sequioa. I'm guessing the 2008 Sequioa is all-new. I guess the LX will get much nicer for 2008.

Are You The Final Toyota FT-86? Maybe William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com October 27, 2011 Today, pictures of what could be a final version of the Toyota FT-86 were released. The pictures are from a leaked Modellista brochure, which is a in-house tuning arm of Toyota. The car shown looks very close to first FT-86 concept with some added bits from Modellista, including an aero kit and several other accessories. Also, the picture of interior closely matches spy shots of camouflaged FT-86s. We'll find out if this is production version of the FT-86 next month at the Tokyo Motor Show. Source: 7Tune, FT86 Club

Tested: 2008 Toyota Highlander - Short Take Road Tests Toyota sharpens its dull knife. BY STEVE SILER, PHOTOGRAPHY BY DAVID DEWHURST AND THE MANUFACTURER August 2007 The all-new 2008 Toyota Highlander is boring. Seriously, we haven’t been this bored driving an all-new car since, well, the original Highlander was introduced for the 2001 model year. Yes, with its new version, Toyota has addressed customer complaints regarding the previous model’s lack of style, space, and horsepower. But somehow, in spite of those improvements, the ’08 Highlander exhibits no more charisma than Al Gore hosting a paint-mixing seminar. Now, this is entirely intentional. Since its introdu…

http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti...41/TOC01ARCHIVE Long America's best-selling car, the newest Camry has cranked things up a notch By MARK RECHTIN | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 08/28/06, 7:47 am et LOS ANGELES - The best-selling car in America is hot. Dealers have a slim 10-day supply of the redesigned 2007 Toyota Camry, which hit dealerships in March. The Georgetown, Ky., plant is running overtime and weekend shifts. Sales executives are begging for the Japanese Camry plant to export more. The car has no incentives. "Customers are following the car carriers to the dealership," says Toby Hynes, president of Gulf States Toyota, which distribute…

Can Tundra overcome Domestic loyalty? Toyota hopes to double annual sales with new Tundra By MARK RECHTIN | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS 6:15 am, February 27, 2006 Traditionally cautious Toyota is taking a gamble on the redesigned 2007 Tundra. Toyota's new assembly plant in San Antonio will double Tundra production, so the automaker must find lots more buyers for its full-sized pickup. The problem: The current Tundra is not luring large numbers of Big 3 truck loyalists out of their pickups. Toyota has been surprised by its inability to win over consumers who already own import-brand cars, says Ernest Bastien, vice president of Toyota's vehicle operations group. In 2005, T…

C&D Link A First Look At Toyota’s Not-So-Secret Seriously Full-Size Pickup: No More Mr. Nice Guy. BY TONY SWAN, October 2006 Toyota calls it “the single most important product in its history,” which may seem like a stretch coming from a company that sells over 400,000 Camrys every year in the U.S., four times the volume of it full-size pickup sales. But of course “full-size pickup” and “100,000 sales” are two elements of Toyota’s U.S. product portfolio the corporate product strategists wish to redefine. Before we get into the few specifics we can relate, though, we must first tell you about the Byzantine rules governing what we can’t mention. In order to attend T…

Coming To SEMA: Lexus 2013 GS 350 F Sport William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com October 26, 2011 http://www.cheersand...-gs350-f-sport/ Lexus has been making amends for not having a performance brand till now with the F. The past few years have brought forth the LFA Supercar, IS-F sedan, and F Sport package for the current IS sedan and convertible. Now, Lexus has just unveiled an F Sport package for the new GS Sedan. The GS F Sport package includes new set of 19-inch wheels, sport-tuned adaptive suspension, thicker anti-roll bars, new bushing, and bigger brakes up front. Rear-drive models will also get variable steering, whi…

While I'm usually the first to jump into new product, I had, up until today, not had the pleasure (?) of tooling around in a new gen Camry... Severe dissapointment, bordering on real issues. The interior of this 4 cyl LE was, in a word, rentalcarolicious... Of note: Bad plastics, everywhere. Crooked fittings and moldings, everywhere. And worst, a weird seam where your hand naturally grabs the door pull. Felt unfinished and potentially harmful. Now, it looked OK, in a generic, modern way, but you can see where Toyota has cut corners. Not Nissan Altima bad, but dissappointing. Oh, did I mention the driving experience? Not really necessary. Exactly as expected.…

Consultant: Toyota will spurn Michigan UAW dissidents' Delphi protest killed chances for a plant, Cole says By LINDSAY CHAPPELL | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 02/06/06, 1:29 pm et Toyota Motor Corp. says it still is considering locations in union-heavy Michigan to build a transmission and engine plant. But one of Michigan's biggest boosters, industry consultant David Cole, says he believes Toyota no longer is serious about the state. Cole says he thinks recent activism by dissident UAW members has effectively killed the deal for Michigan. "I believe we had a great shot at bringing a Toyota plant here," Cole said from his office at the Center for Autom…

funny stuff, i was reading it at the Target stores tonight. basically, in spite of the 'it will be reliable because its a toyota' kool aid lines, they basically hated it and won't recommend it. i was so ROTFLMAO they had issues with a lot of the non-performance stuff. they liked the powertrain and off road prowess, but it wasn't soft and cuddly enough for them. noisy, rides hard, blind spots, interior quality issues, etc. I guess toyota makes a non-pansy vehicle and gets on CR's bad side! Read it if you get a chance. has toyota gone to the bad side? LOL, so desperate top plug all segments that now they have p1ssed off CR? Consumer Reports is more hilario…

Found this while searching the web: I haven't seen it yet, so correct me if it's already debuted or something. It's a Lexus hybrid concept that I assume is debuting at Tokyo. I don't have any info on it other than that though. Isn't the Lexus there supposed to hint at the next LS? If so, this should be pretty accurate I think. I'm not sure I like it because it looks just like a big IS, and I don't think the LS should look like an IS on steroids. I'd rather it looked like a big GS than a big IS. EDIT: here's a little blurb from a press release. Tokyo, October 12, 2005 — Lexus announced today that it plans to display its "Flagship Sedan Concept Car" and t…

CR picked the Tundra over the Silverado, though they still rated the Avalanche significantly higher than either of them. That, however, is not what I thought was BS. Under reliability, the Avalanche and Silverado are rated as "new" (and therefore do not have a real rating) but the newer-than either of the Chevys Tundra gets a "very good." I guess since it says Toyota on it it gets a free pass. And people say CR has no bias...

Dan Neil of the L.A. Times gave a very positive review to the new Lexus IS. His comments on the styling stood out to me: Dan Neil's Review My personal opinion is that the new IS is one of the best cars out there. Performance of the IS350 is hard to beat. Even the IS250 has adequate power. Though less powerful than the old IS300, the power that it has is easy to reach. and everything about the car is smooth. The interior appropriately befits a Lexus. The price is good for what you get. However, I still haven't warmed up to the styling.

LX 470 losing star power By Paul & Anita Lienert To test the redesigned 2006 Lexus LX 470, we headed out to Los Angeles with another couple for a sightseeing vacation. What better way to put the Japanese luxury sport-utility vehicle -- the expensive sibling of the Toyota Land Cruiser -- through its paces than to load it up with four adults and a week's worth of luggage? The LX 470's chronic weak point, an underpowered engine, has been addressed on the '06 model. Its 4.7-liter V-8 engine now makes an extra 40 horsepower compared with last year. But despite the improvements, the Lexus still felt a bit old and due for a major overhaul. We drove an amply equipped, e…
