The hot topic sidebars seem to update very, very slowly. The articles about a new Saturn logo and the Camaro test-drive were just posted today, but they were on the GMi ticker about 5 days ago. It just seems like this could be updated more regularly.

In case you didn't notice, I've decided to move to a blog-like methodology in posting news and articles on C&G instead of my old method of simply cutting and pasting the entire article. It takes a little longer to post news this way since I'm typing the titles and content myself but I feel it's a good way to add some originality in posting news here. I just wanted to gauge the opinions of the rest of the forum on this as I feel I will stick with this method from now on. So, thoughts?

As a member of the C&G Staff, I feel it's my responsibility to make the members aware of features that may make their time on the forums more enjoyable (or less irritating depending on your current viewpoint). If there is a certain member whose posts irk you and you don't want to read what they have to say, I suggest you make use of the forums user ignore feature. Instructions: -Go to "My Controls" on the right menu. -On the next screen, there is a link called "Manage Ignored Users". -The next screen explains the details for you but basically you just enter the name of the user(s) you don't wish to hear from. From then on, you should not hear from that pa…

Japanese auto makers surpass GM in North America Tue Apr 4, 12:07 PM ET Japanese automakers overtook US car giant General Motors in North American car and truck production in 2005 and all signs point to Asian dominance of the industry soon, a report showed. Faced with growing losses in market share, GM reduced its production in the region to 4.6 million vehicles in 2005 while Japanese automakers boosted their assembly plant output in the region by 12 percent to 4.8 million cars and light trucks last year. It is the first time on record Japanese car and truck manufacturers have surpassed the biggest of the so-called Big Three US automakers in North America, according …

I've noticed that every once in a while when I visit, C&G will fail to load and give me an error message. It's been happening more frequently over the last week. It usually takes a while for it to start working again. Just thought I'd give a heads up and see if anyone else has been having this issue.

Over the years, Cheers and Gears has strived to be come the best place for GM Enthusiasts to gather on the 'net. While news is a huge part of this, it isn't everything. C&G boasts one of the most tightly-knit communities on the web. You've all stuck with us through the good times and the bad. Koenigsegg CCX Revealed Text & photos courtesy Koenigsegg Automotive AB 02-24-2006 First Impression The first impression of the Koenigsegg CC is its dynamic stance and futuristic, aggressive attitude. It appears amazingly low and broad, with the cockpit-like semicircular windscreen and organically shaped rear hood as key features. The smooth and polished body is gently curved, almost simplistic; a fully integrated design. Lines and surfaces appear thoroughbred and slippery, projecting an image of velocity onto the machine. This design shouts in a clear and universal language: “I travel at extreme speed”. Machined for Speed Koenigsegg's design seeks to give an in…

Small cars are back in action Japanese models to hit the market starting in March February 16, 2006 BY MATT NAUMAN KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS Forget Pinto, Vega and Gremlin. Get ready to learn Yaris, Fit and Versa. Not since the oil tensions of the 1970s have subcompact cars gotten such attention. The three big Japanese automakers will introduce new small cars this year, and the best-selling model, the Chevrolet Aveo, gets a redesign soon. Researcher J.D. Power and Associates expects sales of the smallest, cheapest cars to zoom 94% from 2005 to 2010 as new vehicles hit the market. You read right, starting today, the winner of each competition will recieve a small prize that relates to the subject of the competition if possible. Don't expect a car or a vacation, but there will be a little reward for your outstanding efforts as well as a little motivation to keep that mouse or pencil busy. Entrants in the onging RWD Pontiac sketch and Camaro photoshop threads are eligible for prizes, so good luck and let's see your work! P.S. If you have anything of interest that you'd like to donate as a prize for a future competition, plea…

For anyone who has ever considered donating money to C&G, we've set up a Paypal button on the front page. If you click on it, you'll be forwarded to a Paypal payment form with Josh's email address and the subject 'Donation for Cheers and Gears' pre-filled in. All you need to do is fill out the amount you'd like to donate. Of course, if you don't have a Paypal account, you'd need to create one, but that's really pretty painless to do. Of course, we're not trying to shake anyone down, but a couple of bucks here and there could help defray some of the costs of keeping C&G running. Josh pays for the hosting costs on his own, and does it out of love for the site, bec…

AW Press drew a laugh with a recommendation he offered for anyone depressed about the current state of affairs in the industry. "Do me a favor and visit the maternity ward of any hospital," he said. "Every one of those little blue and pink baskets represents 14 or 15 purchase cycles." - Toyota is benefiting from what he termed a tailwind. But Press pointed out that the industry is cyclical, and Toyota's fortunes could decline, too. "We have no interest in GM declining. We have no interest in becoming number one," he said. "GM is a global icon. They support the economy, and they represent the strength of the industry. There is no joy in the difficulties they're having…

Cross Lander won the exemption through May 2008 because the vehicle as initially configured weighed more than 5500 pounds, which would have excluded it from the requirement. However, an engine supply problem forced a powertrain switch that reduced the weight below the 5500-pound threshold. As a result, the company requested and won the airbag waiver and plans to move ahead with sales of the vehicle in the United Stat…

Am I the only that experiences problems? It seems every once in a while the C&G server becomes extremely slow and eventually a DNS error page thing pops up. It's been happening for a while now, but today has been terrible. I've been able to get about 20 minutes or so on the site since I first got on at 2:40. I notice everytime I get on, the member list is extremely low, like during the late night hours so I can't be the only having these... right? Regardless, it's extremely annoying and it's pissing me off. If it's my PC... something will be done. If it's C&G, I'll be a bit happier, but I hope it ends.

2005 has been a turbulant year in so many respects. For most of us, we spent the past twelve months seeing continued war in the Middle East, unfathomable natural disasters, and stratospheric gas prices. We've also seen the automaker we care and admire face difficulties of its own with the postponing or cancellation of several models and the sword of Damocles that is bankruptcy. The forums we call home have probably been up-and-running about 80% of the past year. And a few among us have even lost cars, jobs, or worse. I've felt a general malaise around here now and then, often evidenced by our conduct towards our fellow members. In light of that, I'd like to…

Introduction By Mike Hudson Email Date posted: 12-19-2005 Every office has one. You know, the employee who has seemingly done no wrong since coming onboard. Every decision he makes turns into profits and every review comes with a healthy raise or promotion attached. At first, the Golden Boy is loved by all. But after a few years, the mountains of praise start to annoy coworkers. Soon resentment sets in. His nicer attributes fade into the past while his flaws start to irritate you. So when a worthy challenger emerges from the ranks, it's no surprise people are pulling for the new guy. And so it is with our latest matchup between front-wheel-drive fou…

A new supercar and a new concept in motorsport entertainment November 20, 2005 One of our favourite television shows, the BBC’s Top Gear, tests all the very fast road cars and it runs them around the same test circuit so times can be directly compared. The fastest they’ve ever had around the circuit was a Maserati MC12, followed by an Enzo Ferrari, an Ariel Atom, a Porsche Carrera GT and a McLaren Mercedes – until recently, when an Ascari KZ1 pushed the McLaren out of the top five. To put the feat into perspective, consider the cars that have been around the same stretch of tarmac and are not in the five fastest –Ford GT, Ferrari 360 CS, Porsche GT3 RS, Lamborghini M…

As the auto show season quickly approaches us we here at C&G have realized we need a different way to update the site. With myself and Chris Pauwels (aka Crispey2k) being invited to an invite only event here in Metro Detroit for the NAIAS we have some pretty significant things in store for members and visitors alike of C&G. So, in light of the situation we have before us, Frank Donato aka z28luvr has done a fantastic job of keeping C&G's previous look and "morphing" it of sorts to a new front page that is far and away easier to update literally from any computer. In doing that, updates to the front page will be more frequent as myself, Z, F…

Cars.com Interesting...it says that the new Avalon has "average" reliability, as does the RL and Odyssey. Nissan's not doing so hot either...the Titan, Armada, QX56, and Quest rank among the 48 least-reliable vehicles sold. Yeah, maybe for some of recently laid-to-rest models like the Cavalier and Windstar before Detroit began actively pursuing higher quality. Who says that still holds true today? Why is CR always so quick to jump on the domestics without even giving them a chance to prove themselves?

Im not sure what "vestage" means  However Im up on unnecessary and meanings. I made a brief statement about a deleted post of mine on a topic here. It was necessary for me to make note that the post was deleted and that I disagreed. The was no reason for me or anyone else to say any more. It was just me saying "I know what you did and I saw you do it  " I realized it was done to try to keep things undercontrol. But I didnt care :) Necessary at the time, pointless now meant something at the time, no longer has any relevence :CG_all:

http://www.nyse.com/interface/jsp/NHDetail...isdowjones=true "Not everyone is backing away from the fleet market. Toyota Motor Corp. ( 7203.TO), the top-selling Japanese automaker, boosted fleet sales 16% in the first seven months of 2005 compared to the like period in 2004, according to R.L. Polk, while Nissan Motor Co. (7201.TO) and Honda Motor Co. (7267.TO) have upped fleet business 25% and 30% respectively. Even though each of Japan's Big Three have boosted sales in 2005, fleet increases far outpace the rate of growth for each company."

Hey everyone, In light of the news that GM hasdivested its holdings in Fuji Heavy Industries - parent company of Subaru - the Subaru Forum once found under Foreign Exchange has been closed and deleted. All its current discussion topics have been relocated to the Asian Marques forum and merged with that forum's discussions. From now on out, all Subaru discussion will take place in the Asian Marques forum. Thanks! :CG_all: Brian Dreggors Administrator

How come today, my Avitar pic will not show? Went to my settings, and it indicated one was there, which I had orginally downloaded from my pictures. Up until today it appeared on every post that I entered. Not today! Instead, all I got was a white square with the little red "X" up in the corner, but it would never open! What's up????????? <_<

Whenever I post a message and then hit "View New Posts" I get a Flood control error saying that I have to wait 10 seconds. I'm not actually trying to post again. I just want to view the new stuff.

As a reader for a while now, I thought I'd post to say that the site is almost unnavigatable. Problem one is that everything spawns a new tab. I'd really be nice if everything kept to the same tab like the old forum did. It's nearly impossible to browse anymore, since I have to pick a forum (new tab), pick a subforum (new tab), then I can read threads in the same tab. To go to the next bit of reading, it's close, close, new tab, new tab. It's getting to point where it's almost impossible to see the great content on the site. That kind of leads me to problem two, though I suspect if problem one were solved, problem two would vanish. When I co…

I can't see a single one of the images on the front page of C&G. It really bummed me out this morning when I couldn't see the picture for the "What new GM car is this?" thread. Also, like some other folks, I'm having to log in whenever I come back, even if I set it to "Remember me". I'm using Firefox.

What'a with the log-in clock? Today, when it acknowledged my log-in, it said my last log-in was Aug 27th! I've posted replies since then----- and was at these forums only yesterday, Sept. 16th! Something ain't right ------- and I still have to register each time I come here, even after checking off the box to remember me, and I haven't deleted any cookies!!!

I think we need a Forum for just industry related topics that don't really apply to any manufacturer. For example... I found this article, and really had no place to put it. I chose The Automotive Suppliers section, but I don't think it really belongs in the Supplier section or even in The Lounge since it is just industry related news. Forum name Suggestions: In the News In the Industry Industry News What's happening in the Industry Industry Times
