Just go here to our Frappr... http://www.frappr.com/cheersandgears ...fill in your C&G Username and Zip code (and a little comment and picture if you choose) and volia! I think it'll be neat to get a real representation of where everyone is. And, yes, works for Canadians, too, eh? :CG_all:

If you visit the Cheers and Gears homepage often - and you should because its updated frequently, contains lots of features, and all the cool members are doing it - you've hopefully noticed a new Hot Topic box underneath The Competition entitled Hot Topics: The Industry. Be sure to scroll down a little further from now on and check out the latest topics concerning the automotive industry! As always, if you have any other comments, suggestions, or things you'd like to see added to C&G, let us know anytime!

Toyota, Nissan issue safety recalls By KEN THOMAS ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER This undated handout photo provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows an example of a driver-side floor mat on a 2007 Lexus ES350. Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, it was recalling optional "all-weather" floor mats in 55,000 Lexus ES 350 and Toyota Camry passenger cars because the mat could interfere with the gas pedal and lead to a crash. China's Brilliance BS6 sedan fails German crash test 06.21.07, 10:52 AM ET | Link to Original Article @ Autoblog FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - A car with which China's Brilliance wanted to conquer Europe's automobile market has failed to pass a benchmark German crash test, the German ADAC automobile club said today. The BS6 sedan, made by Chinese car maker Brilliance, won only one out of a possible five stars in the crash test, carried out in accordance with Euro NCAP regulations, at ADAC's crash test laboratories, the organisation said. It was the second time in less than two years that a Chinese-made car has failed the test, following the spectacular failure o…

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=121707 PUNE, India — On the way to the launch of two ultra-cheap people's cars, Tata Motors addresses popular needs by launching two new minibuses to help with rural needs for public transportation. The new products are called the Magic and the Winger. Ratan Tata, the visionary chairman of Tata Motors, aims to change the face of Indian transportation. In 2005 he turned the light-commercial-vehicle sector upside-down with the four-wheeler Ace pickup truck. The Ace had all the abilities of popular, motorcycle-derived three-wheelers but with one extra wheel and other amenities. It was so clearly the right product for its …

Automotive News / November 13, 2006 How would you like to make $127,000 pure profit on every Camry, RAV4 or other Toyota you sold over your original forecast? Toyota raised its global sales forecast by 20,000 vehicles from its May prediction, to 8.47 million for the full fiscal year. It also jacked up its forecast for operating profits: to ¥2.20 trillion, or $18.66 billion, from $16.12 billion. Do the math. Nice margins if you can get them, eh? Higher volume isn't the whole story. It's barely a footnote. The weak yen is the real driver behind the higher profits forecast. Toyota now says each dollar it gets on U.S. sales will bring it ¥115 in revenues, not the ¥110 i…

The Astrolab's ultra-lightweight monocoque chassis is built of carbon fiber and functions as a safety cell protecting the two inline occupants. Photovoltaic cells are covered by a unique nano-prismic film that is designed to concentrate solar energy. A 21-horsepower electric motor is all that is required to drive the 617-pound vehicle. Venturi says the vehicle can recharge itself while in motion and can store solar energy in its nickel-metal-hydride batteries. With a top speed of 75 mph and a range of 68 miles, the Astrolab is intended primarily as an inter-city commuter — albeit a fairly expensive one. Venturi says it is scheduled to deliver the first cars in January 2…

Behold, The PhUV - Philippine Utility Vehicle MANILA, Philippines — Feast your eyes on the Philippine Utility Vehicle, or PhUV, the latest attempt from this island country's government to create a national car. To be priced at around $7,500, it is cheap, but is it any good? The Philippines is a very small market, and most people can't afford a new car. There are several businesses in the country, especially around the city of Cebu, that specialize in converting used Japanese vans into pickup trucks. Public transportation is partly handled by jeepneys, minibus-like contraptions with fiberglass bodies. Seven-seat closed light commercial vehicles are popular here and all…

To better serve our members in keeping up-to-date with all things GM especially in regards to future vehicle development, I'd like to take this time to announce two new forums on the C&G website. The Volt-ometer subforum located within the Chevrolet Forum will chronicle the development of this amazing new vehicle from concept to production. In the same way the Camaro Center represented the emotion surrounding the rebirth of Chevy's muscle car, we hope The Volt-ometer will foster the same spirit and enthusiasm for this truly revolutionary vehicle. All other GM developments in biodiesel, ethanol, fuel cells, and related demonstration vehicles will be chronicled i…

Maybe instead of displaying just the most recently updated topic in each thread on the main forum page, how about the most recent two or three. I'm sure that many topics actually get missed for this reason. It has happened to me many times, where I don't see a topic until much after it was started. I know this will take up much more room, but there's got to be some way to make it work. Just a suggestion, i dunno I'm just lazy i guess.

Often, I find myself trying to dig up an image gallery for a vehicle that was announced several months ago. Digging through search pages and whatnot just to find a decent picture of the interior (because, for some reason, decent pictures of GM vehicles are hard to find on the intertron). I was thinking that maybe there could be a separate page, forum, stickied thread that links to all of the image galleries we have. Would make it a lot easier to view some often hard-to-find pictures of vehicles. This could also include image galleries for other makes as well, if someone wanted. Just a suggestion! Thanks!

Just a couple suggestions. One would be to place the PM box in the upper right corner like it used to be. Everytime I get a PM, I get forced to go to the User CP page to read the full PM where before I could click the PM and it would just link me straight to the new message I received (inside the User CP). Also, I noticed on cobaltss.net that they have a very useful drop-down menu in the top left corner of all the forum pages where you can skip right to the forum you want to go to. It's really nice to use sometimes instead of going to the forum home page, then searching for the right forum. Damn it, I'm getting lazy.

I have two suggestions for forum additions that I think will better organize C&G. First, the some of the brands in the GM Family have current and future model/plan subsections. I think we need to add a subsection for past models for each brand since there's really not an "appropriate" place to put threads about them. Currently, they're being posted in the current model sections. I think it will better organize things. Second, I've noticed there's been an increase in the amount of video links being posted. I think there should be a separate forum section to post these to reduce the amount of clutter in other sections of the forum. Any thoughts?

Hey everyone, Thanks for taking the time to check out the details on our newest feature, the Newsreel. Thanks to clever programming talent on loan from God, our webmaster Frank Donato (Z28luvr) put together this great new scrolling textbar feature in order for us to communicate the latest breaking news regarding the forum and GM. How does this fit in with our current format? Simple: Our C&G Top Stories section will still contain our latest big stories, laid out in a professional format. Our Hot Topics section will continue to contain links to current topics of interest regarding GM and the auto industry. The new Newsreel will therefore be used to communicate a wide …

I may be out of line here, seeing as I mostly read instead of post anything; however, one thing I am always in search of is reports and database information that lists various important details. The search function seems to freeze up on me on a regular basis, and wading through Google has become a royal PITA. Might it be possible to have a section dedicated to the charts and information related to quality control databases and manufacturer recall tallies? I don't mean to suggest that it be put together as a kind of score-board, as I just know people are likely to reference the content with just that in mind; rather, I figured it would simply make things a tad easier w…

I would love to see an anti GM board somewhere on these forums. It would be interesting to read from people who had bad experiences with a GM product and won't buy a GM car anymore. They are out there. Sometimes someone is ticked off about a GM product and need a place to vent. GM needs to be aware of reasons why some people won't buy their products given that the company once had 50 percent of the market share two and one half decades ago. Anyone else interested in an ex-Gm, anti-GM, GM vent board??

As most of you may have noticed, none of you have yet received your promised prizes for winning competitions. Please know you haven't been forgotten about. Our C&G account is very low because of recent purchases of spy photography as well as the big down payment we had to put down for two years of hosting. Because of this, I'm pretty much paying for these prizes out of my pocket. The prizes are - as somewhat stated - going to be small trinkets, things like keychains, toy diecasts, etc. Nothing like an actual car or something grandiose, but a little relevant prize nonetheless that we hope you'll appreciate. Rest assured again that winners will receive prizes! Just g…

Lately, there have been a lot of reposts with debuts, and it is understandable but I think it can be prevented. Reposted topics simply add clutter to the forum and make it hard to navigate at times (and confusion occurs when there are multipul topics because people don't know which they've already posted in). As a result, I, along with other Admins, are going to make an effort to pin topics that we want the discussions to be in. If you find another story about a vehicle that has debuted and you think it is significantly different from what has already posted, please simply post a link to that story, but do not post the whole story in the thread as that requires excess sc…

Hey, guys. To address the recent and growing problems with our server, C&Gs host provider is going to be moving the forum to a better, more reliable server on Friday, November 24th. Scheduled downtime is approx 1 hour, which will occur between approx 5:00PM Friday and 3:00AM Saturday. This will hopefully cure what has been ailing us. In the meantime, I and all the other moderators (except Ven) truly appreciate your patience and loyalty while we work to improve our connection issues. Thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving! -Brian

I'm pleased to announce that C&G's own GM Economy and Efficiency Guide has been updated to reflect the latest federal information for the 2007 model year. While the vast majority of models are included, a few (such as the Acadia and OUTLOOK) are pending at this time. We will add the data as soon as it becomes available. New to the guide are Marque Averages, which tells how economical and efficient the division is as a whole. The number is derived from simply adding the city, highway, average, and emissions figures and dividing those respective totals by the number of vehicle engine choices. Enjoy, as we hope this - along with our updated GM Vehicle Safety Guide - wi…

Its unfortunate that I have the need to post another message like this to everyone, and because I really don't have the desire to remind some of our legacy members of this simple fact, I'll keep it succinct. When someone chooses to share information, you DO NOT have to agree, but you MUST afford them respect. I'm sure I'm not the only one tired of seeing someone being called out simply because they don't use a "proper" disclaimer, like 'this may not be true' or 'don't take it as fact.' Another simple reality is that certain members of this board do know more than the average bystander about happenings inside the industry. If you do not agree with their posts, that's fin…

There are a number of issues that have come to our attention in the past several weeks or so, and it’s time for us to address them. For the most part we’ve been against micro-moderation, but these issues have gotten to the point where members are expressing dissatisfaction wi…

In the past couple weeks, the moderating team has noticed that some members who have chosen to ignore others have decided to post screen shots of the page that says "you have chosen to ignore _________." This is highly frowned upon, as it creates nothing but tension between members, and it is rather childish. We would like to issue a fair warning to everyone about this, so that everyone knows that posting something along these lines is unacceptable. Thank you, The Moderating Team.

Wilkommen Wiesmann German coachbuilder Wiesmann is dramatically boosting production as it gears up for sales in the United States by 2010. “The decision has been taken,” company co-owner Martin Wiesmann told AutoWeek. “There is no elaborate plan yet. We won’t start our own dealer network, and we need partners." Read "Wild, Wild Wiesmann" @ Autoweek

I tried to reply to the Lambda minivan poll thread and couldn't. Is that normal? I voted in the poll from the front page, then linked into the thread. Not sure if my vote took or not.

What is wrong with C&G and never updating the news? There have been major events since it was last updated, such as GM's new 5year/100,000 mile warranty. If this site is going to remain competitive it needs to be updated at least once a day. I like this site lot more then GMI but am forced to read GMI due to the lack of news here.

HELP! I have not changed any of my settings, but the new front page is wider than my screen format, and to read it, I have to scroll across the page. Why???? It used to fit perfectly. I also notice this on some, not all the forum links, but not all the time. What is going on?

One thing that would really make C&G more efficient and user-friendly is the scroll-mouse-over-topic-and-read-the-first-few-lines-of-a-post function. Is that possible with MKPortal? C&G's by far the most time consuming forum to get through.

Coming Attractions from Japan's Automakers Autoweek has developed a timeline for the release of vehicles from all the Japanese manufacturers (except Isuzu because...well, you know). The chart goes from the 2007 to 2010 model years. There are also more in-depth descriptions for the future Toyota, Lexus, Honda and Acura products. Those can be found at the links located in the right sidebar of the article linked below. Read "Future Products — Asian Brands" @ Autoweek

Why Lock A Topic Because Doane Asks For It?

I am here, asking the moderation team why they locked a topic because 1 member, Chris Doane asked for it to be locked? What is the problem with letting the debate (which it was, with no personal attacks) go on? Is it because the C&G staff cater to certain people? Is it because the C&G staff lack the.........fortitude to stand up to those that they see as "almeighty" in the "WWW" (no...not WW3). I guess I just dont get why that was locked? Maybe because Fly made a quick hundred bucks off of AutoBlog to "invest" in C&G? Or......possibly the potential for ads to come into the site, which was what was the "wave of the future" to me? At anyrate.....When Chr…

Do you even know we have a C&G Store? If not, check it out! C&G Company Store C&G CafePress Store Would anyone be interest in purchasing products such as... Calendar featuring members' cars - photographs would be selected by voting; those who win would be included in the calendar. Design Showcase merchandise - T-shirts, mousepads, and other items featuring sketches and 'chops from our Design Showcase. Here's an example... This particular shirt retails for $11.49. Remember, all profits go directly to supporting C&G and its activities (site upgrades, purchasing spyshots for your viewing, etc). Any suggestions or comments on this at all?

I don't know if you consider other GM fan websites as competition, but I wanted to alert you to "Help Fix GM." To go directly to the website, click here. At this time, there's not a lot of content, but mostly a request for ideas to, as the name says, help fix GM. Would you ever consider a merger between C&G, GMI, and Help Fix GM? (Hey, if nowadays people suggest that GM merge with anyone and everyone... ) Just think of how you could reduce the cost of bandwidth with united buying power. Just think of how you could triple the number of complainers. Or silly posts like this one.

Since the site re-launched under Josh there has been no curse filter on the site. That is ok sometimes but come on guys if we want to attract new members we are going to have to act like adults. Case in point: http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...st=0&p=156631 to quote: That is not office talk. It is certainly not profesional and would likely make people think less of you in the real world. Most of the forums I frequent, CZ28 and even GMI, keep this to a minimum. Partly because they have curse filtering, which I know people can get around using symbols, and partly because the mods just don't stand for it. I think if C&G wants to really be taken …

I'd guess the 2008 Buick Enclave . It certainly is one of GM's most anticipated products of that model year, and many would like to see the interior of the production vehicle. I suppose I could compare the shown image to the uncovered vehicle at the car shows, but I'll skip that. Buick Enclave! * If so, Flybrian, remember to spell it E-n-c-l-a-v-e . P.S. - If I'm wrong, it'd be the first time... in the last five minutes. Guess I've run out of smilies . [ EDIT ] They should have covered up those rims .

Hi! Not a big deal, but please correct the typo on the homepage. In the list of hot topics and other news, Enclave is spelled Encalve. Thank you.

Moderators need to curb their right to alter or delete posts. Within the last few months, Ninety Eight Regency posted one of his photo parades. I commented on the setting in one photo and said it "looked very Houston TX" (which is where he happens to be from...a metropolis of 4 or so million people). Ninety Eight provided us with some humor in the grandstanding exit/re-entry also exhibited by a few others on here so I get a kick out of such "self-importance." Many people comment on surroundings or backgrounds in people's posted photos. Being that I design buildings, this is reflexive to me. Yet the post was gone. One doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to figure ou…

An open letter to the C&G community: (Do I really need to write this? Evidently so.) If this website is to be taken seriously, then we need to discuss ideas, not personalities; present facts, not ridicule; and try to encourage, respect, tolerate, and understand others' viewpoints. We share an enthusiasm for cars, so let's stand together with that common interest. Posters have every right and opportunity to disagree with someone else, but it isn't necessary to mock or vilify anyone or to cheapen their accomplishments! Or you have the right of ignoring someone's post. [ Refer to the "Employee Discount" thread under "General Motors News" for a number of the lates…

Wasn't me Actually, Dreamhost had experienced some DNS-related problems last night. They're continually patching and updating their servers, and, well, sometimes things just don't go as planned. The actual message from them follows: We had notified them of the problem with C&G at 10PM last night (once it was clear there was nothing on our end wrong), and they replied around 12AM saying it would be fixed the next time they made their DNS changes "official" (usually in 2-4 hour cycles). We apologize for the inconvenience.
