IMO, this is a dumb policy. there are tons of 3-letter words to search for. I just tried to search for "Ion" (as in the saturn ion, but I don't care to search for "saturn ion", because posts may not have included the word "saturn" in them). Other terms I can think of off the top of my head include Geo, LS1, LS2, GMC... *edit* well frack, it's not just a limit on the length of the search, it's a limit on any individual term in the search. So I can't even search for "Saturn Ion" because "Ion" is less than 4 letters. Seriously? Wow...

Just got some insider info from a friend who works at Hyundia. He said some models are showing advanced rust to the sub frames and control arms. These are not 10 year old cars either. He did not give me the model names in the e mail but will post them when I find out. He said the fix right now is to drill the frame, hit it with a hammer to break lose the rust and then pump it full of wax. Needless to say he was not impressed with the fix. Might want to see if anyone else speak of this since it has not been reported in the press.

I've noticed some oddness over the last week, when typing into a form for a post, as I am doing right now, occasionally the cursor suddenly backspaces to the beginning of the word I'm typing--or back several words. I've seen this behaviour on these forums and another that is also using IP.Board (2.3.1 and 2.3.6), on multiple computers---a Win XP machine using Chrome, a Vista machine w/ both Chrome and Firefox 3.5. Anyone seen anything like this? It can be very annoying when it happens 5-6 times in typing a post, as it did typing this one.

As of today there are some changes being made to the forums. Nothing earth shattering, but it should help organize topics a bit. [source: Motor Authority] Ferrari patent for turbocharged V8 surfaces online Earlier this week we saw leaked Ferrari patents for a new AWD hybrid system that were filed with the European Patent Office. Today, a new patent diagram for a turbocharged powerplant from the Italian carmaker has surfaced online, confirming that Ferrari is at least considering adopting more efficient technologies for its future models. The image above shows the patent in all its glory, and according to Autocar other documents revealed a layout diagram for a turbocharged internal-combustion engine in a "V arrangement". While this could possibly be referring…

[source: MotorAuthority] Mercedes Benz Targets 0.20Cd Drag Coefficient in Next Five Years Sometimes, making cars more efficient is best done through the application of more fundamental principles such as improved aerodynamics, rather than complex and expensive powertrain upgrades. Mercedes Benz is embracing that philosophy, with a plan to bring the respective drag coefficients of its cars below 0.20Cd within the next five years. The carmaker claims it already produces the world's most aerodynamic production car - the new 2010 E-Class Coupe, which scores a drag coefficient figure of 0.24Cd. The new coupe even manages to out-slip th…

BMW has done the (inexplicable) inevitable, expanding its M treatment from cars to SUVs (or Sports Activity Vehicles in BMW parlance). The New York Auto Show marks the world debut of the X5 M and X6 M, and in typical M fashion, the high riders get substantially more power than their more pedestrian variants. Both vehicles get uprated versions of the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that debuted in the X6 last year. Power goes from a mere 400 hp up to 555 hp in M form with torque swelling from 450 to 500 lb-ft. While the increase in twist doesn't seem like all that much, BMW is claiming it's produced from 1,500 all the way to 5,650 rpm. The 4.4-liter V8 is direct injected …

BOSTON -- Team 5 Investigates found more than two dozen complaints on file with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration detailing problems with rusted frames on 2000 and 2001 Toyota Tundras. First from Autoblog: BMW switching to turbocharged M cars After two decades of normally-aspirated high-revving engines shoehorned under the hoods of its M cars, BMW is changing direction and will begin to offer direct-injection turbocharged powerplants in its future high-performance flagships. The German automaker is blaming tough environmental emission standards and the soaring manufacturing costs of the specialty-built V8 and V10 engines found in today's M3, M5, and M6 models for its decision. We also suspect the fact that both Audi and Mercedes-Benz have successfully offered torque-laden forced-induction powerplants for years on their performance models may have s…

As seen on Autoblog.. ndian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. will shake up the U.S. truck market next year when it introduces a new midsize pickup called the Appalachian sporting a 2.2L four-cylinder diesel engine producing around 150 horsepower and 300 pound feet of torque. Speaking with Mike Levine from Pickuptruck.com, John Perez, the CEO of Atlanta-based importer Global Vehicles U.S.A. that's aiding Mahindra's entry into the U.S. market, revealed that the truck will deliver 30 to 35 miles per gallon and cost in the mid-$20,000 range. It will be paired with a six-speed automatic that's controlled via a floor-mounted shifter or paddle shifters(!), have a class-l…

I really think we need to have a more active front page. it's already set up in a blog style. Why can't we simply get the Auto stories from the major news sources posted in the forums and then linked to from the front page. Or have articles in the forums linked to the front page with a headline, post snippet and small photo? I would love to do this. I emailed FLY about it, but I think he may not be checking his mail. I am currently not working and have plenty of time on my hands. This would be something I would love to do, which would really help C&G stay competitive with other auto news and discussions sites. What do you guys think?

With the changing of the guard, so to speak, YellowJacket and myself, who are now in charge of the design competition section of C&G have some changes we'd like to announce. Change #1 Fo the time being we are going to have the sketch and chopping competitions linked togther. By this we mean that they will share a common objective, as opposed to different ones. For example: Both compeitions will focus on designing a new car for flagship model for Buick. This way things will, ideally be more simple for us, and give designers who want to participate but aren't choppers, the ability to sketch their design out, and vise versa. This will begin with the next competitio…

What happened today? Several times I tried to get in here and there were database errors and then just "page not found" errors. This seems to happen every so often (I've seen it a few times over the past few weeks). I'm guessing the first issue had to do with MYSQL going down. The next was probably Apache.. While there's no reason this place needs to be on a dedicated server at this point in time - I think the server it's on has too many problems. One site or another is draining all the resources..

Mitsubishi Motors to cut production as sales slow November 27, 2008 Link to article MITSUBISHI Motors today said it would lay off one-third of its temporary workers in Japan as sagging sales led it to reduce production. Japan's fourth-biggest carmaker said it would not renew contracts with the 1100 workers when those employment agreements expired at the end of next March. “We are adjusting production in order to reduce inventory stockpiles in view of the recent economic and market conditions,” a company statement said. In addition to cutting production by 80,000 vehicles, which Mitsubishi said it would do in October, the company today said output would be furt…

We enjoy posting Craigslist and eBay finds quite often on C&G, yet there is no dedicated place to post them. They simply get lumped into the lounge, and often get lost. I was wondering if it might be a good idea to have a dedicated section just for these sorts of posts. Something like For Sale Finds or something with a better title than that. Just a thought.

Insideline DETROIT — Exterior and interior images of the redesigned 2010 Toyota Prius have been posted at Priuschat.com and subsequently snapped up around the blogosphere. Toyota spokesman Curt McAllister on Thursday morning confirmed for Inside Line the authenticity of the images, and said they were "accidentally leaked." He added, "More details at the Detroit show." The car's formal unveiling is slated for January at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. The new Prius will face off against the Honda Insight, which was introduced last month at the Paris show and also goes on sale next year as a 2010 model. Look for the Insight to be priced from $2,000-$3,000 below the Prius.…

2008 BMW M3 Coupe being marked up to $100,000 Link to AutoBlog We've been getting reports from all over that the 2008 BMW M3 Coupe has begun to arrive in U.S. dealerships. Dealers, however, have also begun taking advantage of the high interest in these Bavarian über coupes by marking up the price. Since we couldn't just take everyone's word for the extreme mark ups, we had to wait until someone surfaced with proof, which came today. Dragtimes.com is hosting an image of a brand spanking new M3 sitting in an unidentified California dealer with a window sticker displaying the car's $70,720 MSRP plus a $30,000 mark up. The extra monies demanded by the dealer is labeled…

Yes, Isuzu has announced that they will be leaving the United States light-vehicle market after 2008. Not that you might have noticed, of course, since their final two products are rebadged GMC models. Still, they did provide some cool stuff over the course of their stay with us. The Isuzu Impulse, for starters (either the original rear-drive version or the front-driver better known as the Geo Storm). Also the original Trooper, which may be lacking in design flair but has very good credentials as an off-road machine. And then there was the Amigo, as well as a very solid line of small pickup trucks (starting with the Chevy LUV and evolving from there), and Honda's firs…

The icons don't show which threads I've posted in anymore like they did before the maintenance (the folders are just solid, with no "arrow" in them). Even though we have the "view new posts" option in the menu, I've found it over the years to be unreliable sometimes, as it can and will randomly clear out the most recent posts, so nothing shows up (like just now). What about if in addition to "view new posts" the site incorporated RSS, which is far more reliable? Just a thought.

IT'S TIME TO STOP AMERICA'S ADDICTION TO FOREIGN OIL America is in a hole and it's getting deeper every day. We import 70% of our oil at a cost of $700 billion a year - four times the annual cost of the Iraq war. I've been an oil man all my life, but this is one emergency we can't drill our way out of. But if we create a new renewable energy network, we can break our addiction to foreign oil. On January 20, 2009, a new President gets sworn in. If we're organized, we can convince Congress to make major changes towards cleaner, cheaper and domestic energy resources. Video article continues at link... http://www.pickensplan.com/

It's no secret that GM's in a precarous position right now, and the decisions it makes over the next couple of years will determine its future and, ultimately, its survival. With that in mind, there's never been a better time to play armchair CEO. Nissan to Stop Building Quest, Armada and Infiniti QX56 Link to Kicking Tires Nissan has announced that it will stop producing the Quest minivan, Armada and full-size SUV and its Infiniti sibling the QX56 when the Mississippi factory they’re made in switches to building commercial vehicles in early 2010. Is there a spell check option in the composition mode for messages? I can't seem to locate it and I find myself going back into edit mode constantly to correct my pension for speed typing incorrectly. Please advise. Thanks.

When I checked the forums tonight after a few days away, instead of seeing all the posts on one thread in line one after the other when I open the thread, I now see only the first post with a tree below it and the subsequent posts collapsed to show only the author and first line....what's up with that?

Yet another old vid I found on that famous Youtube. The British did a head-on collision test using the remote controlled BMW and the Volvo while they are speeding. I sure hope these kind of accidents don't happen, it's well.... SCARY!!!!. I know, this is old, so you may have seen it already, but I just posted it here anyway since I don't see anyone else posted it before. If anyone did before, let me know, then I will delete this thread.

I am pleased to announced that I have been invited by none other than GM's PR firm to attend the press days for the 2008 New York International Auto Show. This year promises to be a fantastic show, and C&G will be there to witness it all. What can you expect to see? I don't want to reveal my full hand just yet, but here is some of it: World debuts of production and/or concept cars from Pontiac and Saab A fashion show highlighting the unveiling of the new Saab "BioPower" clothing line A luncheon with Buick designers, featuring a live sketch of its latest concept Interviews with various GM designers, engineers, and executives, including none other than Bob Lutz Interv…

A picture's worth at least a sentence or two: Frank, take a bow, your time has come. That Corvette with Nomad taillights seems like a faint memory of a bad dream now. C&G is proud to welcome longtime member NOS2006 to the staff as moderator of the design forms. He'll be in charge of setting up both the sketch and chopping competitions that you guys all know and love. Let's give our newest staff member a round of applause.

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...photopanel..1.* The problem with most Japanese cars here is that they're dull, soulless, and generic. But after seeing tons of truly weird and different cars in Asia this past winter, I actually wish they would import some of this lost-in-translation, automotive-anime, Japanese subculture madness here. Modern cars in the US are all pretty much the same, dictated by certain car norms, shapes, and functions... to begin with, why do all cars have to be symmetrical? Why must luxury car interiors be covered in leather and wood? Anyway, I really like the Cube, especially in that color, even though…

it's completely underwhelming compared to the CTS Coupe... Officially Official: 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLC Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the 2008 CLC-Class, the Euro-market successor to the now-defunct C-Class Sports Coupe. Well, we should clarify that. It's not completely defunct in that its architecture has been carried over for the new car, meaning the CLC does not share underpinnings with the new-gen C-Class. Still, Mercedes boasts that the car features 1,100 "newly-developed or enhanced" components, including the direct steering system introduced on the freshened SLK. The changes are intended to give the car a different feel than its predecessor. At fi…

Well, it seems that I was deleted from the forums. When I came to log in just a few minutes ago, it said the forums "couldn't find anyone with my log-in details." So I tried logging in once more, and still the same screen. So then I was like, well, I bet if I re-register my screen name, password, and e-mail, I'll get another error message saying all of those details have already been taken. So I did just that, re-registered all of my information. Then I get a screen saying that my validation e-mail has been sent. All of this happening after I just got over 5,000 posts.

I've noticed an unusual situation going on. There's massive amount (and I do mean massive) of advertising for the Japanese brands going on for some reason on radio. Why I say unusual, because even the dealers that aren't usually advertising, are doing so now. It's like on the radio usually it's the same 2-3 dealers, but this morning I've heard 5 different dealers advertising in a row already. They're all claiming they're offering at least $4-5000 off the new 2008 Hondas and Toyotas, with 0.9% finance rate (Usually this is up at least 3.9% with the other import brands) plus GST rebate, and even up to $7000 on 2007s. Mazda seems worse, they're offering $9000 on some new 200…

C&G would like to welcome Oldsmoboi and WildManJoe as Staff Members. We have nominated them to the Editor/Reporter position. We thought that the site could use some help so we decided adding some editors was a good idea. We hope that the improved C&G Staff will be able to serve the membership better and make C&G a better place to find automotive news and rumors. Congrats to Oldsmoboi and WMJ for their nominations!

I promise, this will be the last spamming from me posting of all that spy shot craps. Yet another old news I digged from the net. This one is from Audi. The 2011 A7. http://blog.pixnet.net/jackieyang/post/9376358 The site is the Chinese site, but the article is in English so you can read about it. I just wanted to share them. I thought these were just too good the news to be just posted on my site only. Though they are old. I will be keep on hunting for the spy shots, but unless I get a go to post them here, this will be the last time I flood this site with all these pointless spy shot junks. Enjoy.

Bravada of GMI have posted about the commercial from North Korea about the car called 'Pyongwha Whiparam'(Pyongwha means Peace in Korean, and Whiparam means Whistle in Korean). It is actually an old Fiat Palio which surely seems that way. In the commercial, they are claiming that they developped and built locally, but you will see what I mean. Kinda brings back memories of how Hyundais and Kias first started in the early 70's before they could make their own models(Pony(Hyundai's very first model of 1974 I think), Kia Brisa and stuff). Just when you thought you had enough about the cheap Chinese cars whom are readying to invade US.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=…

Just thought you guys deserved an update, so I'm posting one here. We are finalizing our selection for our new host, and hope to be done with that by tonight or tomorrow. We plan on moving the site to a dedicated server rather than a shared server. For all of those that would like to help with the move, you can donate to [email protected] on PayPal. We are not sure of the costs to move, but if we have extra money, that will go to hosting the site in the future, as well. Perhaps we could buy some spy shots as well, depending on how much the new host costs and how much money we receive. Right now, we do not have enough to make a move, but the Admins/Mods are willin…

How long have web forums been around? How many exist SUCCESSFULLY today? MILLIONS. DOES ANYONE HERE KNOW HOW TO RUN THIS PLACE? It's not like Cheers and Gears is some insanely popular place that deals with an overwhelming amount of traffic. Get your $h! together. Muster up some testicles and tell the hosting company to f@#k themselves. DO SOMETHING.
