Alfa Romeo still has some crossover rollouts coming, however a recent peak at the quarterly earning statement gave a clue as to what else is happening at the brand, and the truth is, it isn't much. During the earnings call this week, CEO Mike Manley said that Alfa's "future product lineup has been significantly scaled back with a corresponding reduction in capital spend." Alfa currently has two products on the market in North America, the Giulia sedan and Stelvio crossover. Those will both be getting a refresh for the 2021 model year. That same year, a new C-segment crossover will make an appearance. This model, previewed by the Tonale concept car, will ride on th…

During the unveiling of the latest five-year plan for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Alfa Romeo revealed that it would have two more SUVs by 2022. At the time, we knew some of the details on the larger of the two new SUVs - would come with a new mild-hybrid system and use a stretched version of the Giorgio platform - what underpins the Giulia and Stelvio. But we had no details on the smaller model, until this week. Auto Express reports that the smaller model will use a shrunken version of Giorgio and feature electrification. This will likely include a hybrid system to take the place of a diesel. A possibility is adding a plug-in hybrid system. The new SUV will also come …

Next month could be bringing some big news for Alfa Romeo. Autocar is reporting that FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne will be announcing a new large SUV and Giulia coupe at the company's Balocco test track in Italy. The large SUV, which we first reported on back in December, will use a stretched version of the Stelvio's platform. It will be the first Alfa model to come equipped with a mild hybrid system, along with an electric turbo using a 48V electrical system. The Giulia Coupe (first brought to light last month), will be offered with the same engines found in the Giulia sedan, along with two hybrid powertrains featuring an energy recovery system (ERS). The turbo 2.0…

Alfa Romeo is reportedly working on Giulia-based coupe that could go on sale as early as next year. Autocar reports the new coupe will share most of the front panels found on the Giulia sedan, although a different grille is likely. The rest of the model will feature all new panels including a lower roof and rear-quarter panels. Engines are expected to be the same as the sedan - two versions of the 2.0L turbo-four (197 and 276 hp) and the twin-turbo 2.9L V6. There is also an Formula 1-style energy recovery system (ERS) that is being worked on for this model. ERS basically harvests kinetic energy from braking as electricity and stores in a battery. A driver can us…

It has been a long wait for those wanting the high-performance Stelvio Quadrifoglio to arrive at their nearest Alfa Romeo dealer. But they won't be waiting too much longer as Alfa Romeo has revealed that the Stelvio Quadrifoglio will be arriving soon and come with a base price of $81,590 (including $1,595 for destination). Ouch. This is about $6,000 more than the Giulia Quadrifoglio. For the large sum of cash, you are getting a lot of performance. Under the hood is a twin-turbo 2.9L V6 with 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. Paired with an eight-speed automatic and rear-biased AWD system, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio will hit 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and reach a to…

Alfa Romeo will soon be adding another SUV to sit alongside the Stelvio. Auto Express has learned that Alfa has approved plans for a mid-size SUV to take on the likes of the Audi A7, BMW X5, and Mercedes-Benz GLE. The new SUV will use a stretched version of Stelvio's platform. "The Stelvio for sure is an example of Alfa DNA, why don’t we translate that in a car which is a little big bigger?" said Alfa’s chief technical officer Roberto Fedeli. Compared to the Stelvio, the new SUV will weigh about 200 Kg (about 441 pounds) more. But the increased weight could be offset by a mild-hybrid powertrain that will combine a turbocharged four-cylinder and 48-volt electrica…

Alfa Romeo is putting the finishing touches on their first SUV and will go into production at the end of the first half or start of the second half of 2016. Sales will begin sometime in the fall for Europe, with the U.S. getting it three months later. "All the preparation work" in connection with the launch of the second Alfa is done, said Sergio Marchionne on a conference call Thursday to discuss Fiat Chrysler’s second-quarter results. "Alfa’s plan is progressing as we told you it will go." Automotive News Europe reports the SUV will be around the size of an Audi Q5 and BMW X3. The new model doesn't have a name, but sources do say the model will use the Guilia pl…

Alfa Romeo will soon be joining the crossover craze with the launch of the Stelvio this summer. It will begin at $42,990 (includes a $995 destination charge) for the base model and $44,990 for the Ti. What do you get for the money? The Stelvio comes with 18-inch aluminum wheels, leather, rear parking sensors, backup camera, power liftgate, and push-button start. Opt for the Ti to get 19-inch wheels, heated front seats and steering wheel; larger infotainment display, and wood trim. An optional Sport package brings larger wheels (19-inch for the Stelvio, 20- for Ti), retuned suspension, and other sporty touches. Ti models can also get a Lusso package that brings higher-…

Alfa Romeo was planning to build out the Giulia lineup with a coupe, convertible, and wagon. But one of those variants has been canned. Alfa Romeo's manufacturing chief, Alfredo Altavilla tells Car Magazine that plans for the wagon have been canceled. "We decided not to do a Giulia Sportwagon. Do we really need it if the Stelvio SUV [below] drives that well? Maybe not. With our fine-tuning, the Stelvio can capture all the people who would otherwise have been interested in the SW." Alfa's reasons for canceling the wagon makes sense. More and more people are turning to the SUVs and crossovers. Why spend the money on developing a model that might not sell as w…

If you thought Alfa Romeo was going to stop with just doing the Giulia sedan, think again. Motoring has learned that Alfa Romeo is planning to show a Giulia coupe at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The report says the coupe will revive the Sprint name and take on the likes of the Audi A5, BMW 4-Series, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe. The engine lineup will be the same as the sedan, which includes a turbocharged 2.0L four and the turbocharged 2.9L V6 found in the Quadrifoglio. Down the road, Alfa will be adding a convertible and wagon to the Giulia lineup. No mention of when the Giulia Sprint could go on sale. Source: Motoring View full article

It seems we are finally coming to the end of a long tunnel with the Alfa Romeo Giulia as the company has announced pricing for the lineup that will begin selling this month. Although there will only be one Giulia available for the time being and that is the most expensive one. The Giulia Quadrifoglio will carry a base price of $73,595 (includes a $1,595 destination charge). The Quadrifoglio will feature a twin-turbo 2.9L V6 with 505 horsepower, all-wheel drive, torque vectoring, carbon-fiber body parts, adaptive suspension, navigation, and blind spot monitoring. As we reported back in October, the U.S. Quadrifoglio will not get the six-speed manual. It will onl…

It seems whenever we write a news story about Alfa Romeo, it usually is for bad news. This is no different. Road & Track has learned from various journalists who attended the U.S. launch of the Giulia that there were no manual vehicles available. An odd omission since the U.S. was the only market going to get a manual transmission for Giulia Quadrifoglio and this transmission was available for those attending the European launch. Road & Track reached out to a Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' spokesperson to ask what is going on. The answer is that Alfa Romeo has decided against offering the manual for the U.S. market. The spokesperson explained the decision ca…

Trying to figure out what is coming down the pipeline at Alfa Romeo is an exercise in frustration. It seems a month doesn't go by without something changing, whether it be a new model or plans being scrapped for another. Automotive News has done their best to figure out what's in and out for Alfa Romeo. Let's begin with what has been scrapped. First is the flagship sedan to take on the likes of the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. This sedan would have used an extended version of the Giulia's RWD platform known as Giorgio. Second is a larger roadster that would have shared the platform and powertrains of the Giulia. The roadster being shelved is due to global …

You have to wonder who was asleep or not paying any attention at Alfa Romeo during the editing of a video. Because a video that was published and subsequently made private possibly revealed the upcoming Stelvio crossover. Motor Trend reports that in a video posted on Fiat Chrysler Automobile's YouTube page, there is a crossover on Fiat's Cassino assembly plant in Italy that appears to be going through an inspection. We can pick out a front end that is similar to the Giulia sedan and a coupe-like roofline. Comparing this shot with recent spy shots of the Stelvio and we can say with some confidence, this is the upcoming Stelvio. It should be noted that Cassino is home …

Alfa Romeo has finally gotten the Giulia onto the production line (for Europe) and they are working on their SUV (possibly named Stelvio). So what's next? How about a larger sedan? Auto Express reports that Alfa Romeo is hard at work on a sedan that will compete against the likes of the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. It will use a version of the platform that underpins the Giulia. Engines will include gas and diesel, along with a possible plug-in hybrid. That does include the 503 horsepower 2.9L twin-turbo V6 engine as a high-performance model. Auto Express says the model will launch in 2018. Given the company's track record with release dates, …

Thanks to a spy photographer, we got our first look at the upcoming Alfa Romeo Stelvio crossover. The front end gives away this camouflaged vehicle is an Alfa as it has a rounded triangle grille. The headlights are slightly covered up, but we think they could be the same slim units as found in the Giulia. The box on the rear end looks to be trying the hide the shape of the rear tailgate. Under the skin, the Stelvio is expected to use a modified version of the Giulia's platform. Power will come from a range of gas and diesel engines. The Stelvio is expected to debut sometime later this year. Source: Motor Authority View full article

We could count on both hands the number of stories we have written about the Alfa Romeo Giulia being delayed for one reason or another. But according to FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne, the reason for all of those various delays is to make sure it would be a true rival to models such as the BMW 3-Series. "The project was technically immature. We will start only when we are on par with the Germans, otherwise it is not worth the effort," Marchionne told Automotive News. We're not sure how much of this comment we can take as seriously considering the Giulia was supposed to originally come out in 2013. Let us look at the list of delays, Issues with Manufacturing and Styl…

There is a next-generation Alfa Romeo Giulietta coming and it could be going with rear-wheel drive. Auto Express recently spoke with FCA's head of passenger vehicle design Alberto Dillilo who revealed that the next Giulietta would be based on a "shortened version of the Giulia’s platform”. Asked if this means the next Giulietta would be rear-wheel drive, Dillilo said, “it’s possible, technically”. The news doesn't come as surprise as FCA is planning to build a number of models off a single platform in an effort to save money. This would mean the next Giulietta will be the only luxury compact to be rear-wheel drive when it is launched - the BMW 1-Series is planned …

Last May, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced some ambitious plans for Alfa Romeo. By 2018, the brand would hopefully sell 400,000 vehicles annually thanks to 5 billion Euro investment that will lead to the introduction of eight new models. This past week, FCA is going back to the drawing board. Speaking with analysts on the company's third-quarter results, CEO Sergio Marchionne said due to the weakness of imported luxury vehicles in the Chinese market, FCA is currently reassessing their plans. Marchionne said a good chunk of the 400,000 vehicle sales was assigned to China. But in light of what is happening in the country, those proposed sales will need to absorbed in…

After some leaked photos made their way on the internet yesterday, Alfa Romeo introduced the Giulia at the company's museum today. The design looks to be a fusing of the 8C supercar and the 159 sedan. Alfa says the Giulia is around the “technical architecture” of the car. An example of this is the short overhangs as the engine and other parts being mounted between the front and rear axles. Now this particular Giulia is top of the line Quadrifoglio Verde (QV for short) which will take on the likes of the BMW M3 and Cadillac ATS-V. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com January 20, 2013 The saga of Alfa Romeo arriving in the U.S. could be coming to end. Chrysler Group LLC and Fiat SpA CEO Sergio Marchionne told reporters on Friday that the Alfa Romeo 4C, a lightweight sports car will be arriving in late 2013. "We're finalizing the car now, so it should be here by the end of the year, It's ready in the sense of all the work with architecture and types of models," Marchionne said after an InForum breakfast Friday in Detroit. This contradicts a statement made by Marchionne earlier this week when he said the 4C would be delayed. "The car is not where it needs to be," he said. Dealers …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 9, 2012 When we last checked in on the Alfa Romeo Giulia, it was being delayed due to the engines not being ready in time. Before this, it was due to design and manufacturing issues. Now, Autocar has some information on what we can expect with the new Giulia. To be launched sometime in 2014, the Giulia will be a part of a revival plan that includes the 4C and Spider. The Giulia will utilize an updated version of the Dodge Dart's platform. Those updates include a longer-wheelbase and a new independent rear suspension. Powertrains are expected to include turbocharged gas four-cylinders, diesels, and Chrysler's Pent…

With Mazda.. . http://blog.caranddriver.com/alfa%E2%80%99s-roadster-detailed-the-2015-alfa-romeo-duetto/ Alfa Romeo and Mazda appear to be growing quite cozy. A contingent of Mazda brass was spotted recently at Fiat’s production facilities in Turin, Italy. This is due, in part, to the fact that Mazda is the only major Japanese manufacturer without a European production facility and Fiat just happens to have some production space that’s not being used. Oh, and did we mention that Alfa is developing a roadster, which we believe will be called Duetto, based on the next-gen Miata (follow the link for a rendering of the Mazda)? That could have something to do with the meeti…

G. Noble Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 21st, 2012 If you are one of the many disappointed American gearheads who missed out on the chance to at least drool on the Alfa Romeo 8C Competitizone when it silently roared onto US soil through Maserati dealers back in 2008, we have some good news for you: more Alfas could be headed our way. According to Automotive News, Fiat recently trademarked the “Alfa Romeo 4C” name here in the US for use on accessories, parts, and the car itself. The trademark was granted to Fiat on April 10th. The week prior, on April 4th, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said that the rear-drive, mid-engined sports coupe would go on sale in Nor…

Now, if a report from Germany's AutoBild is to be believed, Alfa Romeo will make it's first US appearance at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. AutoBild says that five models will be shown at the show; the 4C sports car shown at Geneva will become the brand's flagship, while the midsize Giulia, compact Giulietta, subcompact MiTo and a Jeep-based crossover will also be shown. US Fiat Dealers Worried About Alfa Romeo Delay William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com September 19, 2011 Alfa Romeo is currently in a state of chaos. Last year, Alfa's parent company, Fiat promised the brand would make it's debut in the US in 2012. Then earlier this year, news came about CEO Sergio Marchionne wasn't happy with the designs of the new Giulia midsize sedan and wagon, causing the car to be delayed to mid-2013. Then in June, a new Alfa Romeo product plan for the US came to light, showing the majority of products would arrive sometime in 2013. Now, Alfa Romeo CEO Harald Wester tells Automotive News that there will not be an Alfa …

Alfa Romeo 159 Drives Off Into The Sunset William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com September 3, 2011 Alfa Romeo's 159 has been given it's pink slip. According to italiaspeed, Fiat has ended 159 production at a assembly plant in Naples to get it retooled for production of the Fiat Panda. In certain markets, the 159 has disappeared from order sheets; in other markets, 159s are available due to dealers stockpiling them. The 159 was the successor to the popular and well-received Alfa Romeo 156. Introduced in 2005, the 159 promised many things but didn't deliver. The design done by Giugiaro was well received, but would cause the 159 to have poor ae…

Alfa Romeo's Return To US Is Delayed William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 10, 2011 If you have dreaming about you're new Alfa Romeo in 2012, you will have to keep that dream alive. According to sources in Alfa Romeo, the introduction of the brand to North America and Canada has been pushed back to 2013. The delay is due to manufacturing and styling issues with the Giulia, the replacement for the 159. Also, CEO Sergio Marchionne is unhappy with Chrysler & Dodge designers with their designs for the 200 and Avenger which share the same platform as the Giulia. This puts Alfa Romeo a tight spot not only in North America, but in Europ…

Alfa Romeo stings Porsche with 8C Spider CarPoint - September 2005 Alfa Romeo aims to forge upmarket and beat Porsche at its own game ... and this sublimely proportioned roadster will play the role of the figurative hit man. Unveiled at the recent Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in Monterrey, California, the 8c Spider is derived from the 8c Competizione coupe that starred at the 2003 Frankfurt motor show. The Italian marque is boldly touting the 8c as a legitimate rival for the 911 Carrera -- and this may seem an absurd notion until you take into account the car's innards. The curvaceous two-door is built on the Maserati Coupe's rear-drive platform, and uses a s…
