William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 15, 2012 Hyundai: once considered the bad joke of the automotive world is now one of the big players, taking names and kicking some serious a** with their lineup, and it doesn't look like they're going to stop. Starting with the Elantra GT, the new five-door hatchback starts at $18,395 (excluding a $775 destination charge) for a six-speed manual transmission. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 6, 2012 Hyundai has finally revealed pricing on the 2013 Veloster Turbo. When it hits dealers later this month, it will carry a base price of $21,950 (*Excluding $775 destination charge). You might be wondering where the $1,600 increase over the regular Veloster is. It's in there, but you have to factor in all of the added standard equipment which includes a 1.6L turbocharged inline-four, producing 201 HP and 194 pound-feet of torque, a six-speed manual, ground effects kit, LED taillamps, unique front fascia, and heated leather seats with power lumbar support. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 5, 2012 UPDATE: Yeah, about the under $20,000 pricetag for the Veloster Turbo.. That appears to be bunk. The Truth About Cars got a hold of Hyundai Motor America CEO John Krafcik asking to clarify the $1600 increase. Krafcik said the Veloster Turbo will add $1600 to the cost the Veloster, but with all of the added equipment, the price tag will be over $20,000. We'll see how much over $20,000 tomorrow. As for the Inside Line story, that has pulled a disappearing act. Click on the link and it will take you to a page not found. The orginal story follows below. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 13, 2012 Hyundai could reach 700,000 vehicles sold by the end of the year, despite tight vehicle supplies due to Hyundai's cap on global production. Hyundai Chairman Chung Mong-koo has been on crusade for better quality vehicles. One of his moves to improve it was to put a cap on production. On one hand, that's a good move to have better quality. On the other hand, Hyundai is “literally selling cars off the transporters” to meet demand. In early March, Hyundai had 55,000 vehicles in dealer inventory. "What (Chung) wants to do is assure we're all focused on quality." said Hyundai’s North American operations, Joh…

Hyundai CEO Kim Choong-ho revealed the product update plans at an industry meeting in Seoul, South Korea. The current Sonata has become the brand's biggest seller in the U.S. and the third best seller in Korea since going on sale in both countries. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 10, 2012 If you were to take a look at Hyundai's current lineup, you would notice a lot of fresh/new vehicles (Sonata, Accent, Elantra). But you also notice the two oldest vehicles; the Santa Fe and the long-forgotten Veracruz. We know Hyundai has a new Santa Fe on the way due to some leaked photos back in January. Now, Hyundai has released some renderings of the new Santa Fe that will be shown at the New York Auto Show next month. Hyundai calls the crossover's new styling language "Storm Edge," stating it's an evolution of the "Fluidic Sculpture" language that it's has been using over the last few years. The …

G. Noble Editor/Reporter CheersandGears.com March 1, 2012 Adding to the long list of production and concept vehicles leaked by Uncle Internet before their official reveal this year is Hyundai's new i-oniq concept, slated to debut at the rapidly approaching Geneva Auto Show. The oddly named concept car is said to be a preview of the evolution of Hyundai's "fluidic sculpture" design language and is billed as coupe, although its shape suggests its something more akin to a three-door hatchback. The overall result is something that arguably seems a little more French than Korean. The i-oniq is 4,400 millimeters long — that's about 173 inches to you and I — and reportedly …

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com February 27, 2012 Hyundai is making a big push into the livery services market. The company showed off the Genesis sedan and Equus flagship at the recent International LCT Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. "We're glad … that the industry is interested in what we have to offer. The Genesis is in a sweet spot regarding price," Richard Pipenhagen, Hyundai Motor America's corporate sales manager said. Hyundai is hoping to capture some of livery market that is currently dominated by Cadillac and Lincoln. How they're going to do it will involve some money on the hoods. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com February 20, 2012 Earlier this month we reported that Hyundai was considering doing a sub-brand for their upscale models. Dave Zuchowski, executive vice president of sales for Hyundai Motor America told Automotive News the brand was talking about it. “There's a conversation going on within the company that says, Does having the Hyundai badge on the premium vehicles sell more vehicles, or does it restrict us from selling more vehicles?” said Zuchowski. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com February 21, 2012 The Hyundai Elantra has been seeing its sales go up and up; 40% to be exact. But that isn't the only thing to go up. USA Today asked Edmunds.com to analyze transaction prices of compact cars. Their analysis brought forth a surprise. The average transaction price for Elantra in 2011 was $19,711. That's about $1,500 more than for a Toyota Corolla and $300 above a Honda Civic. The same holds true for the mid-size Sonata; average transaction price in 2011 was $23,259. That's about $860 below the Honda Accord and $500 below the Toyota Camry. The previous Sonata was $2,000 below the average price of the A…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com January 31, 2012 The Hyundai Elantra has been a success for the Korean brand, seeing a 41% sales increase this past year. The Elantra also picked up the North American Car of the Year in January, and the icing on the cake will be a new coupe and five-door joing the Elantra. However, all isn’t well for the Elantra according to a report to Bloomberg. Hyundai says they’ve hit their production capacity at the the company's Montgomery, Alabama plant. Last year, the plant churned out 338,000 vehicles, 10% above the plant’s capacity. About 55% of those vehicles built were new Elantras. “The growth will be capped only becaus…

10 Speed Automatics Coming To Hyundai, Kia Vehicles William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com September 29, 2011 Currently, the highest amount of gears you can get in a vehicle is eight speeds. The Hyundai Elantra is one of the highest rated vehicles in it's class for MPG, with the car receiving an EPA rating of 29 City/40 Highway. But many people can't seem to match the EPA rating and that has caused a consumer group to take action. Consumer advocacy group Consumer Watchdog announced this week that it will be urging the EPA to re-test the Elantra due to complaints from consumers about the MPG. “The Elantra has attracted an unusual number of consumer complaints about real-world mpg averaging in the mid-20s, far from Hyundai’s stated average of 33,” said Consumer Watchdog in a statement. Hyundai rates the Elantra at 33 MPG combined. However, reviewers and peop…

Hyundai and Kia are in a unique position. The two companies compete with each other in many segments even though the two are under the same roof. Despite the inevitable sales cannibalization arising from this, the two have enjoyed remarkable growth in recent years. But this leads to a question; should Hyundai and Kia stay where they're at or should they try to differentiate themselves? Well the two companies will do both. "One of our group's biggest agendas is to differentiate Hyundai and Kia and minimise cannibalisation. It is true that there is competition and cannibalisation between some models of Hyundai and Kia.," a unnamed executive at Hyundai Motor told Re…

Hyundai is looking towards more turbocharging for their engines. Speaking at Hyundai’s product preview and engineering tech session, powertrain boss John Juriga said a turbocharged version of the company’s 3.8-liter V6 (offered in both the Genesis coupe and sedan) is a possibility for the future. “The 3.8 is a contender for turbocharging for some high-output applications.” Juriga went on to say that such an engine already exists and is undergoing testing. However, speaking with AutoGuide, Jurega said that the Hyundai engineering team is constantly exploring new engine options and that the existence of a prototype is no guarantee that such an engine will make it into pro…

Remember the Hyundai Azera? Yeah, me neither. The Azera was introduced in 2008 to compete with the likes of the Toyota Avalon, Ford Taurus, and Nissan Maxima. However, the car has fallen into the darkness with Hyundai introducing more stylish vehicles. Well, today at the LA Auto Show Hyundai shined some light on the new Azera. Design of the new Azera has many cues of Hyundai's "fluidic sculpture" design language, putting it more with the Sonata and Elantra. Up front, new headlamps and a prominent chrome grille incorporates a central indentation that extends onto the hood. Around back, a new trunklid and taillights that wraparound and extend onto the lid. The most promine…

Back in June, we reported Hyundai was planning a coupe version of the Elantra to be shown at this month’s LA Auto Show. Well, someone at Automotive.com caught some pictures of what is presumed to be the Elantra coupe. At first, it looks like a Honda Civic coupe wearing some covers. But look a little closer and you’ll begin to notice swoopy roofline and the wheels borrowed from the Veloster, telling you this is a Hyundai. The doors on this mule have been extended and roofline goes further down then the sedan. No details have been released regarding the coupe’s engine, transmission or price tag. It’s assumed the sedan’s 1.8L 148 HP four-cylinder lives under the hood and w…

Front headlights are more stylized to the vehicle and and LED fog lights nestled low in the front give the coupe a touch of class. Around back, the taillights have also been changed. Are You The Hyundai Veloster Turbo's Engine? *UPDATED* William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com October 22, 2011 Since the Hyundai Veloster has come out, the rumor of a more powerful turbocharged engine has been running around. This week, Hyundai has announced a new turbocharged 1.6L I-4 and this could be the rumored Veloster turbo. The new Gamma 1.6T GDI engine, as Hyundai calls it, should be good for 204 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque from 1750 to 6000 rpm. Like the 1.6L GDI currently in the Veloster, the 1.6T takes advantage of gasoline direct-injection to help boost efficiency and lower emissions. Hyundai says the new engine will meet bo…

We've watched with a sense of awe as Hyundai has gone from a discount also-ran brand into a genuine industry powerhouse in startlingly short order. But we've also long suspected that its vehicles have gained so much ground by being among the best values in their respective segments – not because they've necessarily been the best vehicles to drive. The addition of the Genesis Coupe may have served notice that Hyundai isn't content to just be the industry's value leader (see Battle of the Sixes), but the keystone draw of most of the brand's offerings has remained their affordability. Which is not to suggest this is a bad thing – Hyundai's steroidal growth speaks to the inhe…

SPIED: 2011 Hyundai Elantra Our very own member, CanadianBacon94, managed to snap these photos of the Hyundai's next Elantra undergoing cold weather testing in International Falls, MN. The details are still covered up, but we can tell that the overall shape of the new Elantra is much more rakish than today's Elantra. No doubt Hyundai is aiming to push the Elantra upmarket as is the trend for the class. Expect Hyundai to aim it squarely at the class leaders when it debuts as a 2011 model.

Hyundai Monthly Cash Back Ok, so I've been hyper-critical of GM for consistently resorting to putting cash on the hood of just about every model, but Hyundai has finally topped them. Hyundai buyers can now opt to receive a monthly check (for 6 months) from the company in lieu of rebates. If you buy a Veracruz, your cut is $650/month, on a Sonata its $500, on the Accent and Elantra Touring (which I didn't even know existed) its $250. I have a feeling people will buy into this (just like they bought into Hyundai Assurance) but will probably end up regretting it. After six months, you'll still have to make payments on the sticker price (or close to it, depends on how d…

Burgeoning Beauty vs. Proven Performer http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...otopanel..1.*#4 The list of six-cylinder sport coupes that actually matter is a short one. Hyundai has scored a big marketing win with its incentive program that allows owners to return a new Hyundai within a year if they lose their job. Called the Hyundai Assurance program, the South Korean automaker sweetened the deal later by offering to pay up to three months of car payments before taking the car back so that owners would have time to look for a new job. While the rest of the auto industry has been hit with slumping sales in 2009, Hyundai sales were up in January and about even in February compared with 2008. Some of that certainly has to do with the peace of mind provided by the Hyundai Assurance program. But an incentive program isn't successful just be…

I know this is just an artist's rendering, but every other mainstream midsize sedan maker needs to watch their back if the next gen Hyundai Sonata turns out to look anything similar to these renderings. A Hyundai midsize sedan that looks like this would surely steal sales away from the Camry/Accord/Altima segment mainstays. I would possibly consider buying one if it turns out to look like this (and I am definitely not a big Hyundai fan). Visit My Website Source: GlobalMotors.net P.S. The accompanying article is from December. For some reason, I didn't see these renderings until today. If these renderings are old news, then I apologize.

http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/conte...75048450463.htm Well, I wouldn't want to give my all to pad the pockets of unappreciative management sucking the $$$$ out of our economy with no gratitude. why loathe our own, and try to make it work for the interest of other countries. not understanding this. especially if the boss was a byunghole. get it? LOL. right Ian BEAVIS? byungholio! i would totally say f-u to some of what i was reading in the article. a real eye opener, that kia doesn't get it. they compete based on low cost to produce. so they need to get that.

The Korean language Genesis web-site: http://www.the-genesis.co.kr Everything is in Korean but enjoy. They say they made the car to surpass the German best. I laughed my brains out. I don't think it will sell in N.A since it is nothing more than a rip-off. Maybe a few Korean people who just want to upgrade a little from their current Azeras or any Korean Americans who feesl it's helping the Korean economy by buying Korean, but other than that, I can't picture any Americans will go buy this knockoff and pay that hefty amount of money for an un-proven so called LUXURY car from cheap car maker.

Most of you probably seen this already, but I don't see anyone have posted it, so I am going to now. It has been on Youtube for quite some time now so.... It wasn't uploaded by me but.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZk_VVXaKQE To me, it looks the same old, same old s*** that Hyundai has been making. Just to translate, the last words that that is spoken in Korean saids "Evolution beyond change, Sonata, Transform". Lame line but oh well.... Aside from the uglier grill, larger projector headlamps, and the new interior, I don't think it looks much different, it won't be easy to tell the difference if we were to see the 09 on the street. Still, ugly as sh**, but …

SEOUL, S. Korea — Hyundai Motor took a step closer toward producing a pickup truck for the U.S. market, with the announcement on Tuesday that it was considering such a vehicle following a trade deal with the U.S. But the timeline for such a vehicle in the Hyundai lineup remains vague and could be years away. "We will conduct a feasibility study [on the pickup model] as a long-term project, depending on the elimination of tariffs," Hyundai said, according to Reuters. The U.S. on Monday agreed to immediately remove tariffs on cars with engines 3.0 liters or smaller and auto parts from South Korea. The agreement also called for the elimination of tariffs for pickups in 10 …

If anyone thinks this isnt a very well designed interior, you need to get your eyes checked. Lets just hope they follow through with the exterior. Spy photographers caught the Hyundai Genesis testing in the Midwestern U.S. earlier today and from these latest photos, we can see changes to the interior that include an iDrive-esque control knob located behind the transmission lever. Hyundai designers nixed the original Genesis designs, so these are the first photos we've seen of the redesign. Hyundai previewed the Genesis at the New York International Auto Show. The interior shots reveal a host of changes and we've included photos of the original design, taken in 2005, t…

Hyundai's House of Pain David Kiley | Link to Original Article @ BusinessWeek Hyundai is definitely a brand with growing pains. The Korean company has taken a hard, and embarrassing step in idling its Alabama assembly plant an additional week. The truth is that the company has been parking cars on the fence at the factory all year long. That means they have been building thousands of cars at a time with no dealer orders for them. Hyundai makes the Sonata sedan and Santa Fe crossover at the plant. The Sonata is most of the problem. A very good car, in my opinion. But the competition in the mid-sized sedan market is brutal, especially in a softening market. My God. To…

Is the "Power to Surprise" slogan for Hyunda/Kia the best choice for an Asian based car manufacturer. Almost as bad as when GM ran the Superbowl commercial with the laid off robot, but I know, I know, its not nice to call attention to these matters. Pearl Harbor was considerably well befre my time, but that was the first thing I thought of..Not that I harbor or condone racism/prejudice just curious for some thoughts. I think they caould have done better. **If this should be moved to a more appropriate location please do so.

From this article, it seems that it is going to release the BH under the Hyundai name. Now, I think Hyundai's are decent vehicles, but they are in no position yet (in brand image or quality) to fight against luxury vehicles. I believe they will eventually get there, but they need to give it more time. Anyway, here is a link to the article: http://money.cnn.com/2007/03/19/news/inter...sion=2007031907

Koreans Clone A 5 Series Hyundai has grand ambitions for the elegant V8 Genesis concept it will roll out at the New York auto show April 4. The Genesis shows the styling direction for Hyundai's new rear-drive sedan - and the engineering commitment. The car was benchmarked for torsional stiffness against a BMW 5 series. The production version will go on sale in the second half of 2008. A version with a 3.8-liter V6 will be priced well below $30,000, a Hyundai spokesman said. He did not estimate the price for the 4.6-liter V8 version, which will produce more than 300 hp. The sedan will be the first of several vehicles developed off Hyundai's new rwd platform, said Joh…

The new facility will cost Hyundai around $270 million and add an additional 520 jobs to the plant. Edmunds Evaluation: 2007 Hyundai Accent What is the Hyundai Accent SE? After a week behind the wheel, it does not strike us as a cheap car. It's roomy, solid, well equipped, and offers a decent dollop of true driving fun. Plus there's that Hyundai 5-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, and 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, along with its EPA-estimated fuel economy of 32 mpg city and 35 mpg highway. If you're in the market for a cheap — no, make that "affordable" — vehicle, what's not to like? Edmunds

TCC Test: 2007 Hyundai Accent We can recall the days when cheap cars felt all of their description. This opinion is now obsolete thanks to the thoroughly modern and competitive offerings like the Accent SE, Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit, and others. Hyundai takes it a step further: to quell concerns about quality and reliability, it backs the Accent with a five-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty plus a ten-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. Hyundai wants you to compare their Accent to the Yaris, Scion xA, Fit, and Chevrolet Aveo. After researching competitors, add the Chevrolet Cobalt and Ford Focus to that list. All of these cars offer solid transportation valu…

Revealed: 2007 Hyundai Tiburon Our good buddy Dave Thomas over at Kicking Tires alerted us to the appearance of an official photo of the 2007 Tiburon that magically appeared today on Hyundai's media site. The pic appeared stag without any accompanying information, but we already know there will likely be no mechanical changes to the coupe, which means it will again be offered with either the 2.0-liter four-cylinder or 2.7-liter V6. However, Dave informs us that the 2007 Tib will receive a few new features like a standard tire-pressure monitoring system and available stability control. A few pictures from the Barrie autoshow in Ontario. Taken by polish_kris. The Hyundai Accent 3-door Enthusiast Accessories package. AKA The Hyundai Accent 3-door Premium. AKA Hyundai Ready Rice. A very neat car. It basically reminds me of a 96 Civic hatch, all done up from the factory. The rep said that this car was specially made for the show, and that Hyundai is strongly considering building it. Check out that 10" Subwoofer in the trunk!

I saved the best for last. In a strange twist to get people to look at the Hyundai tent (I assume), A camoflauged 2008 VeraCruz mule pulled into the Barrie Auto Show. Several of the students (its a student run show), scrambled to find out what was going on. I heard one say "does head office know that thing is here!?" The small SUV prototype was driven by a husband and wife team, with a small child. Kris started snapping pics as soon as we spotted it. As we approached, the lady said that if we wanted to have a look inside, we'd better hurry. The glass was deep tinted. Later in the day, a security guard was posted to the vehicle. Chris Doane, eat your heart out!

A few pictures from the Barrie autoshow in Ontario. Taken by polish_kris. Here is the all new Elantra. It looks like a mish mash of styling cues from every other new car at the show. Some passers by commented that it looks like a Jetta. I dunno. The taillights kinda do. The inset round bulb part. Interior is solid as a rock and comfortable. I leaned on it, and it didnt tip over.

TCC Takes on the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe At some point in time the fundamental ordinariness of Hyundai products will become unremarkable. That point is coming, but it isn't here yet. Because the most the most fascinating thing about the new second-generation Hyundai Santa Fe sorta-SUV is what a competent and thoroughly conventional machine it is. There are no glaring flaws in its design, it seems well made, and operates dang near imperceptibly. It's just one more well-conceived Hyundai. Read TCC's Review of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Hyundai Looking to be the Safety King It would seem that way anyway. Hyundai recently announced that they expect to sell 350,000 vehicles with standard electronic stability control for the 2007 model year. That would be more than Lexus, Audi, Infiniti and any other luxury brand. Though that is commendable, it isn't particularly impressive. You're comparing sales of a volume brand to sales of traditionally lower-volume brands; I'd expect the volume brand to sell more. Kudos to Hyundai for making ESC standard, though. Troubled Seoul: Probe Could Crimp Hyundai and Kia Expansion Plans Date posted: 04-25-2006 SEOUL — An investigation into an alleged slush fund in Korea could curtail ambitious expansion plans by the country's top automaker, Hyundai Motor, and its Kia subsidiary. Hyundai Accent excels in quality, styling, safety and price By Paul & Anita Lienert With its latest redesign for model year 2006, Hyundai's Accent leaps into the upper ranks of the subcompact class. Loads of standard amenities, outstanding safety gear, excellent quality, a long warranty and a contemporary design are among the car's virtues. The downside: The Accent could still use a bit more power and a little more rear-seat room. We tested a nicely equipped '06 Accent GLS sedan with a sticker price of $14,870. SHE: I was on the phone with a librarian this morning, and we got to chatting about cars. One of the first questions she asked me was, "So what do you dr…

I think a gent who takes his kid to the same D/C I do works for Hyundai. He's always showing up with some Hyundai and special mfr. plates. Well, the other day he had a brand new Azera. In the limited bit of time I got to scope it out, here's what I thought. exterior-uninspiring. A very droopy, melted butter look and the rear fender flares seemed contrived, IMHO. Nothing about the face or tail was particularly standout. The overal shape was lacking of any sort of eyecatching ways. As a blandmobile, its not anything great either. interior-appeared to be spacious. The seats themselves looked to be of high quality leather and nice to look at and sit in. Of course…
