As one of Acura's most popular models, Acura doesn't need to change much with the formula of the MDX to keep it great. Still, for 2025, Acura included some minor revisions that might be a big deal to some. Mechanically, all of the dirty bits you don't see carry over, so if you liked the ride and drive before, you will again. The engines available remain a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6, making 290 horsepower, or the stouter 335 horsepower 3.0-liter turbo V6 that comes in the Type-S. Either one is mated to a 10-speed automatic. Externally, you'll need to put the 2024 model next to the 2025 model to notice the changes. The front bumper has a new shape, the grill…

A vehicle refresh can include updates to technology, slight design changes, and updates to interiors. For 2024, the Acura TLX is back with a few exterior design changes. The most prominent is the front-end with new grille. TLX still uses slim headlights but incorporates a better designed grille. At the side, both the regular TLX and A-Spec TLX come with new 19-inch five-spoke wheels in dark gray. Step-up to the Type S models come with 20-inch black wheels; Type S models can be had with high-performance tires and copper 20-inch wheels. At the rear, A-Spec models get a new diffuser along with rounded exhaust tips. Since the Type S already aggressive styling, the rear …

Acura has unveiled their Type S concept ahead of the Monterey Car Week kicking off in two days. This concept strongly previews the upcoming TLX and a Type S performance version. This time, Acura is promising greater acceleration to go with the Type S and not just better braking and handling. The dash to axle ratio tells us that this concept is still front-wheel drive, as to be expected. But, adding to that better handling is almost certainly a version of Acura's SH-AWD. The short rear deck is there as is with most new sedan designs these days. The check-mark like tail lamps are a departure from the current Acura design theme while the headlight array is consistent wi…

Acura will be debuting a Type-S concept at Monterey Car Week, one of the top gatherings for automotive enthusiasts. The concept previews the return of the Type-S in the Acura lineup. Type S has been the top of the performance line for Acura. The prior Type-S cars were the 2001 - 2003 3.2CL Type S, 2002 - 2003 3.2TL Type S, 2002 - 2006 RSX Type-S, 2007 - 2008 TL Type-S. Type-S will join Acura's A-Spec trim in the lineup. View full article

Pebble Beach could mark the debut of a nearly production-ready version of the Acura Precision concept. The concept debuted at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show and previewed Acura's Precision Crafted Performance design theme first seen in production on the 2019 Acura RDX. While there are (hopeful?) rumors that the 4-door coupe will wear the name Legend, there is not enough evidence to support them. What that means for Acura's aging RLX sedan is anyone's guess. Also coming is an updated Acura TLX with a Type-S version, a new Acura MDX, and rumor has it even the ZDX may be making a return. All of these could debut over the next 12 to 18 months, but Pebble Beach is in Augus…

Acura's crossover lineup has been a bright spot for the Japanese automaker. For example, the redesigned RDX has been setting monthly sales records for sixth straight months since being launched in June. According to Automotive News, deliveries of the RDX "are outpacing 2017 by 22 percent." A fair number of automakers would take this as a sign to continue building out their crossover lineup. But Acura will instead focus on their car lineup. "We don't know what's going to happen in the future. What's critical is that we stay disciplined and balanced. [We'll] do our best to hit home runs with our sedans also," said Acura General Manager Jon Ikeda. Acura wants to em…

Don't worry if you have forgotten that the Acura ILX still exists, as your author also forgot about it until this week when the Japanese automaker announced a refreshed version. The 2019 ILX gets Acura's new front end design with a large pentagonal grille, aggressive bumper cutouts, and LED ‘Jewel Eye’ headlights. Around back is a restyled decklid, taillights, and a new rear diffuser. For the interior, Acura has installed an updated version of their two-screen infotainment layout that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A-Spec models come equipped with a set of sport seats. One big change is all ILX models getting the AcuraWatch suite of active safety feature…

After a major refresh for the 2017 model year, Acura is giving the MDX a number of modest changes for the 2019 model year. The big changes of note deal with the MDX's mechanicals. Acura has reprogrammed the nine-speed automatic transmission that is said to provide smoother starts and will prioritize second-gear when leaving a stop. The previously optional stop-start system becomes standard on all MDX models. Acura's Active Damper System (ADS) that was only available on the Sport Hybrid model is added the MDX with the Advanced package. Next up is an A-Spec appearance trim that brings a revised front fascia, black trim, 20-inch wheels, seats upholstered in Alcantara…

Acura's performance image begins and ends with the NSX. But for a time, the Japanese luxury automaker built performance variants of certain models with the Type S badging. The last time this badge was seen on an Acura model was the 2008 TL Type-S. It featured a more powerful 3.5L V6 (286 vs. 256), unique chassis tuning, and design tweaks. Last week, Acura announced that the Type S would be making a comeback on a number of models in the coming years. Also, a new twin-turbo V6 that will be exclusive for Acura is in development. No word on when this engine will debut. "Acura will pursue a unique powertrain strategy that underscores the brand's rightful place as the p…

Acura has pulled the curtain back on the refreshed 2018 RLX sedan. Your first thought might be along the lines of, "that's still a thing?" We can't blame you for this train of thought. Acura only sold 1,478 RLXs last year. To give you some perspective, 46,740 Mercedes-Benz E-Class models were sold in this same period. Despite this, Acura is still planning to soldier on the RLX. The most obvious change for the RLX is the new front end. Acura's "diamond pentagon" grille is here, along with the jewel eye headlights and a new sculpted hood. The back also sees some changes with new LED taillights and a gloss black rear diffuser. The interior doesn't see many changes a…

The appetite Americans have for crossovers is quite large and automakers are trying their best to appease this. Acura for its part is looking at whether it should bring the subcompact CDX crossover to the U.S. Introduced for Chinese market last year, the CDX is underpinned by the same platform as the Honda HR-V. Power comes from a 1.5L turbo-four from the Civic and an eight-speed DCT. “It’s a model that interests a lot of our people, so we have our R&D guys looking into the possibility,” said Jon Ikeda, group vice president for Acura to Wards Auto. For Acura to bring the CDX over to the U.S., they would need to make a number of changes for the vehicle …

The 2017 Acura MDX was the first model to lose the beak grille and the next model that is destined to lose it is the 2018 TLX. Acura has released a teaser for the model before its debut at the New York Auto Show next month. The image shows off the TLX's new front end with the diamond shape grille and oversized Acura logo first shown on the Precision concept from last year. There is also a set of the company's 'Jewel-Eye' headlights. "The 2018 TLX will receive new styling elements that ratchet up its emotion and reflect Acura's focus on Precision Crafted Performance. Acura customers embraced the MDX when we raised its game with bold, new styling, and we're pumped …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com June 4, 2013 The clock appears to be running out for the Acura TSX. The compact sport sedan and wagon is already being squeezed by the slightly smaller ILX sedan and marginally larger TL and now comes word that a next-generation model might not happen. According to Automotive News, the future of the TSX is in peril due to future product plans. A source says the next-generation TL, due out in 2014, will become smaller to provide breathing room between it and the RLX. However, that could mean the next TL is right in line with the TSX. Another problem for the TSX deals with Europe. The TSX is actually the European Honda A…

When Acura showed off the Precision Concept back in January, they said the concept's design would "literally will shape the direction of all future Acura products." Well brace yourselves as the first vehicle with this new design language has debuted at New York - the 2017 MDX. Up front is the most prominent change, the “Diamond Pentagon Grille” with an extra-large Acura emblem. It looks very odd. Aside from this, the MDX also gets a sculpted hood, new fenders, and twin tailpipes. The 2017 model also boasts a new Sport Hybrid powertrain. A 3.0L V6 is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with an integrated electric motor to power the front wheels. The …

We knew when Acura was going to launch the NSX, it would come with a hefty price tag. We were not surprised when the announcement came down that the 2017 NSX would have a starting price of $167,500 (includes an $1,800 destination charge). A fully loaded model will set you back $207,500. The NSX packs a twin-turbo V6 paired with a set of electric motors that produce a total output of 573 horsepower. This is paired to a nine-speed automatic and Acura's SH-AWD system. Acura says ordering will begin on February 25th, along with an online configurator to see what you can customize on a NSX. Acura also announced that NSX VIN 001 will go up for auction at Barrett-Jac…

The long wait for the Acura NSX continues. Automobile reports that Acura has pushed back production from this fall to next Spring due to a change in engine layout. The original plan was to use a naturally-aspirated V6 for the vehicle, but it was decided to add turbochargers to the engine. This has caused Acura to build a bespoke twin-turbo V6 and change the engine layout to a longitudinal configuration. This delay puts the transformation from the NSX being a concept car to production car at about four years. One item that is still up in the air is when the Acura NSX will go on sale. Jon Ikeda, Acura VP and general manager tells the magazine that meeting with deale…

Its no secret that Acura has been struggling in the auto marketplace. Aside from the bright spots of the MDX and RDX, the brand has been seeing year-over-year sales drop. But the brand could have a idea that might reverse that. Automotive News recently spoke with Koichi Fukuo, Honda's senior managing director for Acura says the brand is looking into whether or not they should follow in the footsteps of Subaru and equip all of their vehicles with all-wheel drive. "The key is awd," said Fukuo, "As a premium brand, we need something different from the competition." Currently, Acura offers all-wheel drive in half of its lineup and the company is in the process of introduci…

Acura is in the midsts of giving their lineup a bit of excitement once again. With such models as the new TLX and refreshed ILX, it seems Acura is figuring out how to make cars that appear to be fun. There could be more excitement on the way. Honda is currently readying a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that will go into a number of their own vehicles. This has caused talk of whether or not Acura will use it as well. Car and Driver decided to ask Acura product planner Gary Robinson if the 2.0L turbo engine could go into the ILX. “Acura is always going to get the best engines Honda makes,” he said. And the cars in which they will be found “will always be more power…

It has been awhile since we reported anything on Acura's upcoming NSX supercar, but the fine folks at What Car? had the chance to speak with the NSX's head of development Ted Klaus, who has revealed some intriguing information. Klaus revealed that the NSX promises to bring the performance of a Ferrari 458 Italia for the pricetag of an Audi R8, something that the previous NSX promised to do as well. We have to achieve the type of acceleration that the customer is achieving with the Ferrari. More importantly we have to achieve this every day and also at the Nurburgring," said Klaus. "I think we are aiming within the range of the Audi R8. I realise that is a wide range bu…

At one time, Acura was a shining star in the automotive world. Thanks to impressive quality and a fun to drive quotient that many luxury automakers couldn't match at the time, Acura seemed it was going places. But in recent years, Acura has been a bit of a rut. Odd designs, complicated interior layouts, and trying to convince buyers that they're on the same level as Mercedes-Benz and BMW hasn't played in their favor. But Honda hopes to change that. This week, the company announced that Acura and Honda would be separated into their own divisions. Taking charge at the Acura division will be Michael Accavitti, who is currently Senior Vice President for Auto Operations at Am…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com May 13, 2013 The Acura ILX hasn't set the sales charts on fire since it was launched. Since going on sale last May, total sales of the ILX stand at 19,759 vehicles. In that same time, Buick has moved 47,859 Veranos. Acura has announced some changes for the 2014 ILX that will help improve sales. All ILX models will now come equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, heated leather seats, an eight-way power driver's seat, rearview camera, a enhanced sound system with a new subwoofer, and a noise cancellation system. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com February 24, 2013 The compact luxury market is heating up once again with crossovers taking the spotlight. Automakers such as BMW, Buick, and Mercedes-Benz are either readying or selling new subcompact models. One automaker you will not be seeing compete in this arena is Acura. “We’re pretty confident with our current offerings. We think the MDX and RDX cover the whole spectrum of those kinds of buyers,” said Acura Canada VP Ryan Kelly. Kelly went onto say that Acura's current lineup of crossovers is versatile enough to deliver a luxury experience for those who want five or seven seats. Whether this is course Acura …

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com January 15, 2013 Acura's 2014 MDX Prototype is a very clear indication of what the production model of the 2014 MDX will look like when its introduced sometime later this year. The MDX's overall design looks to be the RDX that has been stretched in all directions. Acura says the new design has a 16% improvement in aerodynamic efficiency compared to the outgoing MDX thanks to a lower roof. Even with the lowered roof, interior space has grown with increased space in second row and improved access into the third row. The MDX will include a lot tech like next-generation multimedia system featuring Pandora, text messaging …

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com January 9, 2013 The Acura ILX hasn't been the success that the company has hoped for. Acura only sold 12,251 ILXs in 2012, which is way off the 30,000 goal they had set for the year. Acura admits this freely. “(The ILX is) not hitting our sales expectations. Consumers have told us they like the 2.4L and they wish they had an automatic, but they say the midrange vehicle is underpowered and they don’t see the value in it.” American Honda President John Mendel said to reporters at November’s Los Angeles Auto Show. The ILX comes in three different variations: a base 2.0L with an automatic transmission, a 2.4L with a six-…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com October 11, 2012 Back in July, we reported that Acura would be doing a refresh for the 2013 ZDX. This left us scratching our heads as to why Acura would do this. So far this year, Acura has only sold 642 ZDXs. Well, Acura announced this week the refreshed ZDX would only be around for one year before being discontinued. This leaves us scratching our heads even more. The 2013 ZDX gets a lightly reworked front shield grille, power folding side mirrors, parking sensors on the front and rear bumpers, lane departure and forward collision warning systems, and some other slight changes. If you're thinking about picking up a ZDX…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 26, 2012 According to new report from Motor Trend, Honda is working a smaller, less expensive NSX. Before the sky fell in 2008, Honda was working on two new NSX models. The first was a front-engine V10 model, while the second model was a smaller version of the NSX, dubbed internally as "Small NSX". When the collapse happened, the two projects were scapped. Now with the expected return of the NSX utilizing a hybrid V6 and SH-AWD system, the "Small NSX" has reportedly made a comeback. Sources say the "Small NSX" will likely have SH-AWD system and other bits from the NSX to help to help recoup development costs.…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 5, 2012 If you’re one of people who wishes the Acura would just go away, you might want to skip reading this story. The ZDX hasn’t really been a sales success for Acura, only selling 1,564 vehicles last year. Yet, Acura sees something in the ZDX that they’re doing a refresh for the 2013 model year. Motor Authority got their hands on some spy shots of the next model undergoing some changes, the MDX. The MDX appears to be keeping the seven-seat layout and will share a good amount of styling cues previewed by the recent 2013 RLX Concept, including the bread-slicer grille and a sharper bumper. The next MDX could also be sharing powertrains with production RLX. The base engine would be a a direct-injected 3.5L V6 coupled with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com January 27, 2012 Acura has confirmed that the next generation RL will be shown at April’s New York Auto Show. The RL will stick with a V6, but gains a hybrid component and direct injection. Sport Hybrid SH-AWD uses the V6 hybrid to power the front wheels and two electric motors in the rear, individually powering each wheel. Sport Hybrid SH-AWD takes the current RL’s AWD mechanical setup and transforms it into an electronic system. Mated to a new seven-speed dual-clutc…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com January 11, 2012 2011 was a pretty miserable year for Acura. With the earthquake and tsunami hitting Japan back in March, Acura saw their sales drop by 8%. However, Acura sees 2012 as a year of growth. Jeff Conrad, Acura's VP of sales said at Acura's press conference at the North American International Auto Show on Monday, the company is forecasting a 45% increase in volume for 2012. Part of the increase will come from having production capacity back at full steam after the earthquake and tsunami in March and flooding in Thailand. Yesterday, Acura announced they would be showing three cars at next month's Detroit Auto Show; a concept version of the NSX, a new RDX, and the ILX sedan. Now, we have learned some more information about the upcoming ILX. As we have reported, the new ILX will be using the Honda Civic platform as base. But don't expect it to be a re-badged Acura. They like the drive better than the X6 as well, despite not being quite as fast as the twin-turbo (but weighing 400+ lbs less). They overall seem to like the styling. Observed FE, despite the test-drive treatment, was 17mpg. Very impressive for a crossover that hits 0-60 in 6.5 seconds. Better than how the RDX tended to fair in first-drive reviews.

Here are some pictures I took of the (Canada only) 2009 Acura CSX at the Montreal International Autoshow in Quebec, Canada on Tuesday January 20th. It features a revised front clip with the new Acura corporate "shovel grille". This was the first official showing of the new look as far as I know. Here is the current car for comparison:

Full Article Overall a very positive review. My favorite quote: With a 6-speed manual, the super-handling TL should be in the low 5 second range for 0-60, depending on how aggressively launched it is.

Banzai burned? Honda confirms NSX is DOA by Noah Joseph on Dec 17th 2008 at 9:25AM Link to Autoblog Amidst a troubled global economy, Honda is actively scaling back its operations, and its performance programs are sadly bearing the brunt. After canceling its participation in Formula One and the AMA motorbike road racing series, the Japanese automaker has reportedly announced that it is nixing development of the next-generation NSX supercar. The unfortunate news will undoubtedly come as a stunning disappointment for the loyal legions of Honda/Acura sportscar fans. The new NSX, which looked to be nearing the end of its development on the road to production, was sl…

SANTA MONICA, California — Images and specifications of the 2009 Acura TL made their way onto the Web today, ahead of Acura's planned debut for next week. Acura had previously released only a front view and preliminary information for the all-new fourth-generation TL. The 2009 TL will be offered in two versions: front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. This is the first time Honda's Super-Handling all-wheel drive will be available on the midsize sedan. The front-wheel-drive version gets a 280-horsepower 3.5-liter SOHC V6 engine, and the TL SH-AWD will use a 305-hp 3.7-liter SOHC V6. Both engines are mated to a sequential sportshift five-speed automatic transmission with p…

Honda put out two recall notices today that affects some 273,000 2004-2008 Acura TLs. One of the recalls addresses a windshield wiper issue, where a potentially faulty circuit breaker on 129,600 '04 and '05 TLs could fail, rendering the wipers useless. The other recall is a bit more compelling. Apparently an issue with high temperatures under the hood can cause the power steering hose to degrade to the point that it could crack and leak fluid onto the catalytic converter. This could result in a fair amount of smoke, or, at worse, a fire. Neither issue has resulted in a crash or injury, but Acura dealers have been instructed to replace the power steering hose and, in t…

Linkity Caught in the USA What better place to develop the next (eighth) generation European Accord than in the USA, far away from prying European eyes. Maybe Honda has to rethink their strategy because our spyphotographers managed to snap some quality shots early this morning close to Honda's US facilities. The current Euro Accord had a facelift for its 2006 model year when it received its first dose of the Sports 4 Concept styling, making it practically generation 7,5. Unclear is how much of the recently revealed Honda Accord Tourer Concept styling will make it to the eighth generation Accord. The next gen Accord base model will probably be powered by a…

SPY SHOTS! 2009 Acura TL by Brenda Priddy | Link to Original Article @ TCC | (2007-08-22) Although this prototype is cloaked in camouflage, this is the first time Acura's next TL sedan has been photographed while testing during daylight hours. Although nearly everything is covered in vinyl, a closer look at the headlamps and especially the taillights, indicates that this sedan will carry over strong styling cues from Acura's Advanced Sedan Concept, which was first shown at the 2006 LA Auto Show. We still don't know too much about the 2009 TL other than these pictures, but if Honda's reluctance to build a V-8 engine still holds, we expect a V-6 engine with 300 hor…

One of my coworkers has an '05 Acura TSX and I got to ride in it today since we all went out to eat at Kansas City BBQ over lunch hour and it's a good 10 minute drive from work. This was my first time in an Acura and actually, now that I think about it, my first time ever in a Japanese luxury brand. I kept it in the back of my mind that this was "entry-level." But after having ridden recently in a Cobalt SS and now riding in the TSX, I don't see the hype over Japanese interiors. There was A LOT of hard plastic in that car that you could tap and it sounded like a Rubbermaid lid. There were no sqeaks or rattles but the interior didn't seem much better than the Cobalt …

This is from a Japanese mag, so there is no English translated article floating around, at least yet. The Car Lounge has a thread with scans and a nice long discussion going already. Anyway, here are the results: 1. TL-S 6MT - 1:36:67 sec 2. IS350 - 1:38:24 3. G35 6MT - 1:38:67 4. RDX - 1:44:54 (naturally the RDX is just thrown in there for fun) The FWD car wins? Blasphemy! Most people are arguing that the TL-S is a more track-tuned car while the IS350 and G35 are the base models. The base TL would have undoubtedly finished last. However pricing wise, they are all very close, and I think it is a fair comparison.

Full Article Acura really gave Audi a run for their money. To think Acura actually had a shot at 1st overall, beating out an LMP1 car with an LMP2, is a great accomplishment. Entering Acura into Le Mans is a good move on Honda's part, as it will help increase Acura's sporting image. It also bodes very well for future Acura super cars! Just wish Honda's F1 start this year had been a little better

V8 Acuras May Be Closer to Reality Acura is moving closer to fitting its vehicles with bigger engines, including possibly a V-8. A V-6 is the largest engine that Honda's luxury division now offers. Some company executives think that is a problem. Acura has announced that the next-generation NSX sports car, due in 2009, will be powered by a 10-cylinder engine. But Hirohide Ikeno, president of Honda R&D Americas Inc., said the company is considering V-8s, too. "That is our direction," he said last week during a reception for the opening of Honda's advanced design studio in Pasadena, Calif. Ikeno said it's important that Acura have bigger engines. He added: "I'm pus…

Edmunds Evaluation: 2007 Acura MDX Normally, trying to be all things to all people is a six-lane freeway to suckitude. This is the downfall of focus-grouped design-by-committee automaking, which waters creativity down to the point of the lowest common denominator. Death by clinic. With its all-new Megatron-faced 2007 MDX, Acura wants the MDX to be mentioned in the same breath as the Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5. Doing so required the new MDX to be a much hotter tamale than the lame-duck MDX in nearly every way, so Acura endowed the 2007 model with a formidable dynamic repertoire. Effectively negotiating the opposing tables of performance, utility and comfort is a delic…

Some exec at Acura decided it was in their interest to try to wine and dine me into buying a new Acura by inviting me to the invitation only 2007 Acura MDX preview last night. While I have no plans for the Acura, I was plenty appreciative of the wine-ing that they provided. That, and the chance to meet Steve "Stumpy" Thomas (ex of the Tornto Maple Leafs) who was there either because he's friends of the owner, or he's making a little cash on the side. Being a GM fan and having high expectations from Honda’s luxury brand, I didn’t go in expecting to be impressed, but walking out, I have to admit, Acura did a really good job on the new MDX. The exterior design was grea…

Edmunds Evaluation: 2007 Acura RDX Attenzione, per favore. While driving the all-new 2007 Acura RDX, we were listening to Italian language CDs. It might seem odd to be studying Italian while driving a Japanese SUV but we figured Honda is learning to speak a new language with its first turbocharged engine, so why shouldn't we? After one minute in the charismatic new RDX, we realized we should have been brushing up on our German. The RDX is a Japanese SUV, made for the American market, but it drives like a German sport sedan. When the RDX's turbocharger kicked in, we actually giggled in four languages. Edmunds Evaluation: 2007 Acura TL Type-S All this outstanding competence is undeniable. There is no question that the TL Type-S is the best TL ever, and it's more car than most entry-lux buyers would ever need or expect. Edmunds Evalution: 2007 Acura MDX Considering base MSRPs of a comparably equipped BMW X5 3.0i ($44,470), the Porsche Cayenne ($42,200) and the Volvo XC90 V8 ($46,400), we think the MDX is priced just right. With all its unexpected performance, standard safety and interior features, plus Acura's attention to detail and reputation for longevity, the 2007 Acura MDX is the current midsize SUV standard for the others to chase — in spite of the metallic grille. Spied: 2007 Acura MDX Meet the coming replacement for the old and tired current MDX. Are the experts impressed by the RDX? Welcome to the most overstyled Acura ever: the RDX. The SUV competition to the BMW X3. It's off to a good start; it murders the X3 in looks (and neither one is a beauty queen). Powered by Acura's newest powertrain, a 2.3-liter turbo four-pot, see if the RDX has go to match the show. We venture into the future to speculate on Acura's V10 supercar By Ed Hellwig Date posted: 03-23-2006 It only had 270 horsepower and the interior of a Prelude, yet the 1991 Acura NSX was still an exotic. To keep weight down, aluminum was used for the body, chassis and suspension. Instead of more traditional V8 or V12 power, the NSX used a mid-mounted 3.0-liter V6. What it lacked in displacement, it made up for with variable valve timing and titanium connecting rods, the first ever in a production car. Then there was the $65,000 price tag, cheap for its class but expensive for an Acura. The brand was only five years old at the time and its only other model was the $…

Acura dealers expect cheaper RL Kathy Jackson Automotive News / February 20, 2006 - 6:00 am ORLANDO, Fla. -- When Acura redesigned its flagship RL in 2004, it loaded on the goodies: all-wheel drive, navigation system, 10-speaker stereo and radar that warns drivers of an impending crash. It has a price tag to match: $49,915 with shipping, about $6,000 more than the previous-generation RL. Oops. Now Acura has concluded that its slow-selling flagship needs help. The division is considering a lower-content version of the car, some dealers say. Sales chief Dick Colliver told Automotive News that the RL's content will change next year but gave no details.
