William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 9, 2012 Honda is currently the only automaker to sell a passenger vehicle that can run on Natural Gas, the Civic Natural Gas. There's one problem; to buy a Civic Natural Gas, a dealer has to be within a twenty-mile radius of a Natural Gas station. Currently, 270 Honda dealers in the U.S. sell it. Honda wants to change that. The company is currently looking at installing Natural Gas pumps at its dealers to help increase sales of the Civic Natural Gas. “If the dealer had a fueling station, it would really reduce some of that concern for the customer,” said Steve Center, U.S. vice president for environmental busin…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com February 6, 2012 Honda has been moving the date on their Civic refresh. Previously, John Mendel, executive vice president at American Honda Motor Co., said the refreshed Civic would arrive sometime in 2013. Then, executives pushed the date up to the end of 2012. Now, a top-level Honda executive told dealers this week, the Civic refresh will arrive sometime in the fall. That means the refreshed Civic will arrive around the same time with the redesigned Accord. Source: Autoweek View full article

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com February 3, 2012 Back in December, we’re reported on Heather Peters, an owner of a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid that was taking Honda to court due to the vehicle never achieving the official EPA fuel mileage ratings. But instead of taking Honda to the circuit court with lawyers, Peters filed the case against Honda at a small claims court. The reasoning behind it; she would have a better shot of winning the case. Peter’s case was to be heard on January 3rd. Now, the court has reached a decision on her case. On Wednesday, the court ruled in the favor of Peters and awarded her $9,867 in damages. “I am absolutely thrilled. It…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersamdGears.com December 28, 2011 Heather Peters is angry with Honda. Her 2006 Civic Hybrid doesn't get its claimed EPA fuel economy and she isn't satisfied with a proposed class-action lawsuit settlement that would give lawyers $8.5 million while Civic owners would get as little as $100 and rebate coupons for the purchase of a new vehicle. She could take Honda to court. But with Honda's army of lawyers, she wouldn't have a chance. But, Peters has found a way to get a chance and keep Honda's lawyers out of the proceedings. On January 3 she'll take her case to Small Claims Court in Torrance, California and ask for the maximum compens…

Today, Honda revealed they will bring a Accord Coupe concept to next month's Detroit Auto Show. The concept will "reveal the styling direction" of the next Accord - due out in Fall 2012. This will mark the Accord's ninth generation and 36th year of being on sale. Honda says the production model Accord will a "dynamic and aggressive profile." Tetsuo Iwamura, President and CEO of American Honda, told Autoblog that he is disappointed with the current sales of the Crosstour. "In the case of the Crosstour, I'm really disappointed because that's a nice car, [with] very beautiful styling, and it gives very good driving performance as well as packaging. But yet, we went a bit too far." Since being introduced back in 2009 as a 2010 model, the Crosstour has been struggling in sales. So far in 2011, Honda has only moved 16,679 Crosstours - a 36% drop compared to 2010 when Honda sold 25,927 Crosstours. Iwamaura said Honda is actually "quite satisfied" with sales of most of its vehicle lines (i.e. Accord, Civic, CR-V),…

The Honda Civic has been taking beating with reviews saying the car has dull styling and driving dynamics, poor interior materials, and many more reasons. Consumer Reports didn’t put the Civic on their list of recommended vehicles for this year. Honda’s CEO Takanobu Ito told reporters this week that he takes full responsibility for the Civic. "The ultimate responsibility rests with me. We take inputs from the various markets with sincerity ... and try to work out the best actions for what we have observed. Those decisions rest with me," Ito said. Honda has pushed up the refresh for the Civic to 2013 to fix the problems the current model has. Source: Automotive News (S…

Honda is known for many things; one of those things happens to be engine technology. The Civic CVCC and VTEC are some of technologies to done by Honda. However, during the past few years, Honda's engine technologies haven't changed much or fall flat on it's face (IMA Hybrid tech comes to mind). But now, Honda is coming out swinging with new powertrains and transmissions. At a event before the Tokyo Motor Show, Honda introduced a new range of four-cylinders ranging from 1.5L to 2.4L and a new 3.5L V6. All of the new engines will come equipped with direct injection and stop-start technology. The four-cylinders come with a new VTEC arrangement with an Atkinson cycle lower …

Honda’s Ridgeline hasn’t been a sales sucess. Sales of the truck have been lackluster since being introduced back in 2006 and refresh for the 2012 model hasn’t helped. That has lead rumors to Honda killing off the Ridgeline and caused American Honda's Truck Planner, Sage Marie issuing a statement saying the truck is staying. However, the statement didn’t say anything about future developments for the truck. At the Tokyo Motor Show this week, Autoblog asked American Honda’s President and CEO, Tetsu Iwamura about the Ridgeline’s future. "Ridgeline is quite an important model to us. It's the only truck-type of model we have. We're fully aware of the importance of that mode…

If there is one thing that has bemoaned enthusiasts for the past few years, it's the lack of the NSX from the Acura/Honda lineup. Orginally, Honda had originally planned out the NSX replacement, but was canned due to the global economic crisis. But within the past year, Honda has hinted at a return of the NSX, with their CEO Takanobu Ito adding fuel to it. If a report from Autocar is to believed, Honda will be showing a concept version of what could be the successor to the NSX at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The car, known as the Super Sports Concept will follow the Small Sports EV Concept that will be shown at the Tokyo Motor Show. Not m…

The current Honda CR-V has been a hot seller for the brand since being introduced back in 2007. Honda knows they have a lot riding on the next CR-V and they hope their effort pays off with the new model shown today at LA. The CR-V exterior gets new sheetmetal which gives the CR-V a more refined look with a sloping roof, revised front end, and new taillights. Inside, Honda has improved interior quality, added more interior space, and quick-stow rear seats. The CR-V's powertrain is the faithful 2.4L i-VTEC four-cylinder, with 185 HP and 163 lb-ft of torque. Honda's five-speed automatic continues on as the only transmission which is a disappointment since competitor…

Honda Moving Civic Refresh To 2013 William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com November 2, 2011 Rumorpile: Civic To Get A Refresh In 2013?! Earlier in October, we reported on a rumor that Honda would be moving up their refresh of the new Civic to 2013 due to all of the negative press. This week, Honda has confirmed the Civic would be refreshed sometime in 2013. "We take feedback seriously, regardless of who it's from, and we will act accordingly quickly," said John Mendel, American Honda executive vice president. Rumorpile: Civic To Get A Refresh In 2013?! William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com October 17, 2011 The new Honda Civic has been panned for many things, including a design that looks almost the same as the model it replaces. Well, Honda seems to be taking the concerns to heart and could be working a refresh. According to a source, Honda held a "Grassroots" meeting for West Coast Honda dealers. Dealers issued concerns and comments about the new Civic to the company. Honda's response to their dealers a "very refreshed, and more aggressively styled Civic" would make an appearance sometime in late 2012 as a 2013 model. Source: Temple of VTEC

Honda has risen from a company that was best known for its motorcycles 40 years ago to a company that is one of the top automotive manufacturers in the world today. In 2008, Honda supplanted Chrysler as the fourth best selling automaker in the U.S. and they were in sixth place in global auto sales. Their story is truly impressive. But lately the automaker has faced numerous challenges, including declining sales. We look at four reasons why Honda is in decline. 1. Not Improving Quality. What is surprising about Honda is that despite spending billions of dollars a year on research and development, their new models and new generation models have not raised the bar. In f…

Honda Civic No Longer Recommended by Consumer Reports August 1, 2011 Cory Wolfe - CheersandGears.com Yes, you read the title correctly, Honda's long-time recommended Civic has now lost its recommended rating with Consumer Reports. Not only that, it is now ranked near the bottom of its class. According to the consumer product testing organization, the new Civic's shortcomings have been eclipsed by "the high bar set in this class by the new-to-market Chevrolet Cruze, the redesigned-for-2012 Ford Focus, and the redesigned-for-2011 Hyundai Elantra". It's more than just the new comers, with its ratings dropping low enough to fall behind every competitor except the recent…

Honda Warns Dealers About Civic Supply William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 3, 2011 Honda has put a warning out to their dealers with the 2012 Civic. In a memo sent to dealers, American Honda Motor Co. sales boss John Mendel said the supply will be “severely restricted, with limited availability of certain models.” The memo also states production of the new Civic will, “be at significantly reduced levels at least during the summer months,” because of the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in March. As a result, analysts said sales of the new Civic could drop below 2010 sales of 260,000 units. “With an all-new and improved model, Ho…

03/25/2011 - TORRANCE, Calif. Honda will voluntarily recall 2,800 model-year 2011 Odyssey vehicles in the U.S. to replace the side window glass in one or both of the front doors. Honda is taking this step because there is a potential for one or both windows to become detached from the window regulator, causing the window to become inoperative and preventing it from being rolled up or down. In the worst case, the window may bind and shatter onto the occupants. No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this defect. Honda is announcing this recall to encourage all owners of affected vehicles to take their vehicles to an authori…

Anyone else as sick as I am of the "Happy Hondadays" ads that run incessantly on teevee? I mean, I'm only an occasional watcher of the tube (we don't even have cable or satellite), but I'm seeing those gawddambed ads every time I turn the stupid thing on. And that abrasive music that blares out during the commercials--enough to drive a man to shoot up smack. I really want to strangle all the cutesy hipsters that run around in stop motion in the ads as well. They're disgusting! Jeez, I'm getting old...

Was surfing the web and came across spyshots of a Honda Crosstour mule/prototype. It's very sad that the prototype looks much, much better than the finished product. Seriously, what the hell happened? :Edit: Upon closer inspection it looks like the back of it may be photoshopped. Not sure. Nevertheless, the point remains that had it looked like that, it would actually be a pretty good looking wagon...not the monstrosity we got.

It does state that Honda spends over $17.5 billion with North American parts suppliers annually. Without a frame of reference that number is sort of meaningless, but it would be interesting to see how much Toyota and other manufacturers spend annually with North American suppliers. Highlights of the article: Honda operates seven vehicle assembly plants in North America -four in the US, two in Canada, and one in Mexico. Three engine manufacturing plants in North America -two in the US, one in Canada. Two transmission and gear set manufacturing plant…

Money Story NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Honda Motor Co. said Friday it widened a previously announced recall to add 440,000 cars that could have a lethal airbag defect. Affected models include the 2001-2002 Honda Accord, 2001 Civic and 2002-2003 Acura TL. The potential defect has caused 6 known injuries and one known death, according to Honda spokesman Chris Naughton. The recall will require the driver's side steering-wheel-mounted airbag inflator to be replaced. In some cars, the airbag inflators may over-pressurize the inflator mechanism as the airbag is deploying, which could cause the inflator casing to rupture, according to Honda. As a result the carmaker s…

-Consumerist While it's OK for messages from top-secret government agencies to self destruct, that's not the case for car brakes. But more than 200 owners of 2008 and 2009 Accords have complained that keeping their brakes in working condition has proven to be a mission impossible. Paul's 2009 Accord is suffering from bakes breakage: I recently (March 7) bought a new 2009 Honda Accord, and after 2 days it has brake issues. I have taken it in to Honda 5 times to still have no resolution. They "deglazed" the rotors first, a few hours after I got it back, same thing. Now they claim Honda knows about the issue and is investigating the issue. I've got a brand new $…

As enthusiasts, we sometimes make the mistake of referring to Honda as a car company. Honda started out as a motorcycle manufacturer, and now makes everything from generators to IRL engines to robots. The Japanese automaker has produced a series of short films to give the rest of the world a better idea of what it's all about. There are three videos so far, and the latest of these short documentary-style productions is about Honda's unique view of failure. The video, titled "Failure: The Secret to Success," provides insight into the thought process of company founder Soichiro Honda, and how he viewed failure as a means to winning. It also shows how much Honda, a s…

Honda reportedly kills S2000 replacement, V8 program, RWD Acuras Jan 6th 2009 at 12:58PM Link to Autoblog Honda's attempt to right-size its development schedule and cope with the economic downturn apparently extends beyond the cancellation of the next NSX. According to Autocar, HoMoCo is right-sizing its plans for the next two years, and that includes rethinking the development of a range of rear-wheel-drive Acuras, a new V8, a convertible based on the CR-Z and the S2000's successor. Acura seems to be carrying the weight of the bad news, with its RWD 7-series rival, originally due out in 2015, cancelled indefinitely, along with development of a V8 engine that would a…

Article @ formula1.com It truly is sad, given 2009 was set up to be a return to success with new leadership and a new engine. Unfortunately it will never materialize. And given the last 2 seasons, it would have almost been better had Honda pulled out after 2006, which was a fairly good season. The way F1 was going, towards more regulation, budget caps, and even possibly standard engines across the field, had most of the manufacturers pretty pissed off at F1. It was no surprise to see manufacturer teams pulling out, I'm just surprised Honda was the first, and how abrupt it was.

Honda hybrids may cut into Detroit's market share May 21, 2008 4:49 PM ET Link to Source DETROIT (AP) - Honda Motor Co. is coming out with hybrid cars starting early next year that will cost about $1,900 more than comparable gas-only models. The cost for the Detroit Three, according to industry analysts, could be lower market share as U.S. consumers continue their rapid shift to smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles. Analysts say the new hybrids, including a gas-electric hybrid-only model to fight the popular Toyota Prius and a hybrid version of the subcompact Fit, will hit the market at the right time with gasoline prices continuing to rise. Honda to roll out cheap new hybrid model in early '09 May 21, 2008 3:53 AM ET Link to Source TOKYO (Reuters) - Honda Motor Co said on Wednesday it would launch a new, low-cost hybrid car in Japan, North America and Europe in early 2009 as it seeks to cut the lead of Toyota Motor Corp in the green car race. Despite the pressure of record-high oil prices and concerns over climate change, fuel-efficient and low-emission hybrids still occupy a small niche in the global car market, partly due to their higher costs for both consumers and automakers. Japan's top two automakers lead the industry in the fuel-saving technology which runs on both electricity and gasoline, bu…

While enjoying the Cutlass, I got to check out a new Accord sedan, among a few other vehicles, last week. I'll start off by saying it exceeded my expectations. It looks great in person, all the body's lines and surfacing really set it off nicely. The proportions were nearly perfect and the detailing was nice. The only aspects of it I disliked were the bulging headlights and the rather plain trunk panel. Otherwise, the exterior had no faults in my eyes. As well, the interior looked quite elegant with its flowing dash and door panels. Packaging seemed to be top notch with it being very roomy inside. Interior quality was decidedly good except for the plastic south of the woo…

Honda Civics are generally respected as reliable transportation, and aren't supposed to be prone to things like, say, wheels falling off. But that's the reason Honda is recalling more than 182,000 of them made in 2006-2007. Honda says the trouble comes from a leaky O-ring in the wheel speed sensor. Water could damage the wheel bearing, which could result in one of the four wheels falling off, "possibly resulting in a crash." Ya think? Owners of the affected Civics can expect a note in the mail from Honda, offering to fix the problem and replace any damaged parts. You can read the full recall notice from NHTSA.gov after the jump. Thanks for the tip, Herb! [source: The…

In C&D's October issue, they do a preview of the new Accord. They go on about how much bigger the car is, how the styling is plain, how the controls are hard to decipher, and at the very end they said that the Accord is 32 years old, going on 62. HAHAHAHAHA! With an average age of 50, the Accord is growing into the old man's car. Interesting review I thought, and I didn't think it was a very good one. Anyone else read the review? What did you think?

2008 Honda Civic MUGEN Si Sedan Preview Honda promises a lighter, tighter Civic sedan by Marty Padgett | Link to Original Article @ TCC | (2007-07-23) Honda's longtime tuner colleagues at Mugen have tricked out the Civic Si sedan for the 2008 model year, with a specially tuned suspension, forged aluminum wheels, aero body add-ons and new tires. Honda says the biggest changes to the stock Civic's suspension tuning have made it quicker around the Twin Ring Motegi track in Japan. Mugen tuners have lowered the Civic's ride height by 0.6 inches, and have boosted the damping on the front and rear suspension. The forged wheels are lighter-weight aluminum even though they've …

Incentives up sharply at Honda Troubled segments, old models targeted Honda Division is piling on the incentives this year - a sharp turnabout from its usual ultra-stingy approach to offering spiffs. Honda still doesn't offer cash rebates to customers and says it doesn't plan to. But the division is cranking up dealer incentives and lease subsidies like never before. In June, its average payout per vehicle was $1,221, according to Edmunds. 2007 Honda Element - Low APR, $1000 dealer cash 2007 Honda Odyssey - Low APR 2007 Honda Pilot - $3500 dealer cash 2007 Honda Ridgeline - $3500 dealer cash 2007 Honda S2000 - $2000 dealer cash

My coworker drives a Civic sedan (he got it instead of the coupe for practicality reasons). Yesterday I road with him so he could show me an apartment complex that was rather confusing to figure out...I'm sure I'll get lost the first time I deliver there. But I digress. The car is very roomy inside with top-notch interior materials that include a soft-touch upper dash, soft touch upper door panels, and fabric padded armrests on the center one and the doors. The hard plastics were well textures and pleasing to touch. I didn't mess with the switchgear but it all looked very easy to use. The design itself is really cool. the speedo is huge and easy to read the numbers, and…

Nothing official from Honda yet, but the guys over at www.vtec.net posted an article concerning a patent Honda placed which definitely appears to be the new A-Vtec system they announced recently. There are some sketches too. The system seems to be very simple, at least compared to BMW's fully variable lift system. And there's a good chance it will make its debut in the 2008 Accord. Just saw this on a deals forum that I frequent. Thought I would share it here because you probably won't hear about it anywhere else. Cut & Paste or go to the thread link: hxxp://i.slickdeals.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=11449&d=1140553277 It appears there is a problem with the OBD (On Board Dianostics) system that causes these Hondas not to comply with the California emissions regulations. So much for Honda's greenie image. They are paying to replace faulty emissions equipment, and any you may have already replaced. Check out the main forum thread and see how many people have had problems: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.ph...04&t=202836 Se…

TOKYO — Honda Motor Co. plans to recall 45,335 Civic Hybrid sedans worldwide to repair a voltage converter defect that could stop the car's engine, a company spokeswoman said Friday. Japan's No. 2 automaker plans to recall 7,219 of the vehicles sold in Japan and another 38,116 sold overseas, mostly in the U.S., a Honda spokeswoman said. She spoke on condition of anonymity, citing company policy. Honda learned about the defect — which could cause a short circuit that would stop the engine and prevent it from restarting — from overseas reports, the company said in documents filed Thursday with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Honda has received no rep…

"Plaintiffs allege that odometers in certain Honda and Acura automobiles overstate mileage by up to 4%. This alleged overstatement is claimed to diminish warranty coverage and reduce the miles available under automobile leases. Plaintiffs seek relief for a purported nationwide class under the Federal Odometer Act and the Texas implied warranty of merchantability. Defendants deny all allegations of wrongdoing asserted." Recall: 2004-05 Honda Accords (81K) Honda Motor Co. is recalling 81,000 2004-2005 Accord sedans because of issues that could cause an air bag-related sensor to fail, the company said Wednesday. Honda said in a Jan. 9 letter to the government that the wiring harness for the seat position sensor, which detects the driver’s seating position and adjusts the air bag inflation pressure accordingly, was attached in the wrong location and may have been overtightened. Honda said the sensor wire could break and cause the air bag warning light to be illuminated and prevent the sensor from working properly. When the sensor fails, the air bag system automatically moves to full in…

Reviews: 2007 Honda Civic Si Sedan In the end, the Si sedan is so good that it makes the Si coupe seem faintly pointless. Sure, there will always be a market for the Civic coupe's space-pod, two-door profile. But almost everyone else will appreciate the combination of practical packaging with foot-to-the-floor performance. To find out which Civic Si is better for you, take this quiz. You use rear seats for: A) transporting Volcom hoodies and collecting empty Rockstar cans; B) you don't know what that means but still enjoy running the tachometer up to 8,000 rpm. If you answered "B," then the 2007 Honda Civic Si Sedan is your ride of choice. The 2007 Honda Civic Si Sed…

"And before I continue I should tell you that the styling concept you see here is an accurate representation of what the next generation Accord coupe will look like. " "A more powerful and lower-emissions V6 engine will provide higher fuel efficiency with the incorporation of Honda's next-generation Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) technology. Honda leads the industry with the highest Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) rating for any full line manufacturer* of 29.2 miles per gallon - well above the industry average of 25.3 miles per gallon." The TL's 3.2L V6 engine with VCM would fit the bill. Although I would guess that it would be tweaked to offer higher HP than…

Spied: 2008 Honda Jazz (Fit) Mule When an Auto Express reader spotted this Honda in a motorway service station, it stood out because of its scrappy taped-up wheelarches. On closer inspection, it was clear this was no ordinary Jazz, but a mule being used to test parts for the firm's next-generation supermini. After the success of the new UK designed and developed Civic, Honda's British arm is now playing a major role in the Jazz project. But the big news is that the car will be offered with a diesel engine for the first time. This spyshot shows how the five-door will be bigger all-round than at present. Sources in Japan have revealed that the fresh model will use the…

Diesel Replacing Hybrid in Next Accord Honda president Takeo Fukui has been quoted in the Japanese press as saying that a next generation V-6 diesel will be commercialized by Honda, and is set to slot into the Ridgeline along with other unspecified models. First, though, Honda will kick off with its 2.2-2.4-litre class, four-cylinder “super clean” turbodiesel that’ll run in the next Stateside Accord, appearing around 2009. This is expected be a breakthrough engine, with emissions as clean as clean as a modern gasoline powerplant, able to meet even the toughest regulations in the world (i.e. the EPA’s Tier II Bin 5 regulations).
