(+) it's (-): No Hybrid Version of Honda's CR-V Honda has recently told Edmunds that though a Fit Hybrid is indeed in the works, there are no plans to produce a CR-V of the same persuasion. Honda admitted that people who are going to spend the extra coin for a hybrid CR-V likely won't see that money returned in fuel savings. Cars are the only vehicles Honda will be equipping their hybrid systems with. I'm afraid our hopes of a Pilot or Ridgeline hybrid are dashed. Read "Honda Drops Plans for CR-V Hybrid" @ Edmunds

I ended up test driving a new Fit today. Quick summary, fun car. FUN! Mechanically tight. More in a little while when i can go into detail. Would i buy the car? Well, despite my ambivalence about the video game cheap plastic interior, I will have it on the short list. A lot of fun, but a few reservations.

The refreshed 2016 Honda Accord will re-enter a revived midsize sedan class ready to take on the segment with more flash and technology than we've ever seen on a car wearing the Accord nameplate. But the 2016 Accord, which will reach dealers in August, won't be alone. The revamped Honda midsizer will be met by renewed challengers including the 2016 Nissan Altima, 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, and 2016 Kia Optima. Does the Accord now have what it takes to retake second place from the Nissan Altima and challenge the Toyota Camry? As I can see it, a very common problem with the new Civic is that the driver forgets to turn on their headlights. This brings two things: 1. Why doesn't the Civic have automatic headlamps? A lot of cars at the price point have it. And no, the one I saw wasn't a base model. Even the Cobalt has it. 2. Is the fancy LED backed dashboard really useful, or just for show? I know, not just the Civic has it, Lexus and some others have it too. But the thing is though, it was on, without the headlights on. Traditionally, it's a given fact that if the dashboard is lighted, then headlights or parking lamps are on. Doesn't that just convey a wrong message to the driver if the lig…

Anaheim Arena Now the "Honda Center" ANAHEIM, Calif. 10/03/2006 -- Amid screeching tires from an Indy Car driven by Danica Patrick, booming pyrotechnics and colorful confetti, Southern California's premier entertainment and sports venue became Honda Center today. The name change was made official by executives from Anaheim Arena Management, LLC (AAM), the management company of Honda Center, and American Honda Motor Co., Inc. during a ceremony in the arena parking lot. Danica Patrick, 2005 IndyCar Rookie of the Year and driver of the #16 Rahal Letterman Dallara Honda, made a stunning entrance in her IRL race car. At the podium were Henry and Susan Samueli, owners of AA…

I guess buying enough advertising-space in MotorTrend to ensure Truck of the Year just doesn't mean much to consumers.. http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti...E/60206007/1041 151-day supply for a brand new vehicle is an extremely poor showing. 53 with "heavy dealer incentives" (LOL) isn't exactly encouraging either. While the truck does fill a niche, I'm not sure the public really wants that niche filled.. especially at the price Honda is asking for this pseudo-truck.

In C&D's October issue, they do a preview of the new Accord. They go on about how much bigger the car is, how the styling is plain, how the controls are hard to decipher, and at the very end they said that the Accord is 32 years old, going on 62. HAHAHAHAHA! With an average age of 50, the Accord is growing into the old man's car. Interesting review I thought, and I didn't think it was a very good one. Anyone else read the review? What did you think?

Can the Honda Civic be cool again? Automaker plans to spend big to attract youthful buyers By Kathy Jackson Automotive News / September 05, 2005 CHICAGO -- Honda is offering the usual goodies on the redesigned Civic - more power, a fancier stereo system and side curtain airbags. But what the automaker really wants to add to the car is youthful image. "We're trying to make Civic cool again," says Jeff Conrad, vice president for advertising and public relations at American Honda Motor Co. Inc. "The last-generation Civic was vanilla, no emotion." The four Civic models range from a hybrid to the nearly 200-hp sporty Si. The sedan an…

Patent Panic: China Stymies Honda in Battle To Control Rights to CR-V Design Date posted: 03-24-2006 SHANGHAI — Honda has received a blow in its vigorous legal battle against Chinese car manufacturers that it alleges have copied its CR-V: China's State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) has canceled the Japanese automaker's patent for the SUV. Back in October 2003, Honda filed a suit against Shijiazhuang Shuanghuan Automobile, claiming the Chinese company's Shuanghuan Rabo SR-V looked too much like its own CR-V. A similar suit was launched a year later against Hebei Xinkai and 11 other Chinese car manufacturers. Honda has been manufacturing its CR-V at a joint-ventur…

New Accord Hybrid fails to deliver on price and fuel By Paul & Anita Lienert If you're a sharp-eyed consumer, you might be wondering about the curious changes that have been made to the redesigned 2006 Honda Accord Hybrid, which is only in its second year of production. We're not talking about dramatic sheet-metal renovations. We're talking about an increased sticker price and a significantly lowered fuel economy rating. What's up with that, we wondered, and then spent a week testing a top-of-the-line model equipped with a navigation system. Bottom line on our test 2006 Honda Accord Hybrid: $33,540, including $550 for shipping. SHE : Maybe I've been clipping cou…

Diesel Replacing Hybrid in Next Accord Honda president Takeo Fukui has been quoted in the Japanese press as saying that a next generation V-6 diesel will be commercialized by Honda, and is set to slot into the Ridgeline along with other unspecified models. First, though, Honda will kick off with its 2.2-2.4-litre class, four-cylinder “super clean” turbodiesel that’ll run in the next Stateside Accord, appearing around 2009. This is expected be a breakthrough engine, with emissions as clean as clean as a modern gasoline powerplant, able to meet even the toughest regulations in the world (i.e. the EPA’s Tier II Bin 5 regulations). a continent away Ralph Kisiel Automotive News November 24, 2008 - 12:01 am ET GREENSBURG, Ind. — The dark cloud that hangs menacingly over Detroit seemed light-years away on Monday, Nov. 17, as Honda Motor Co. CEO Takeo Fukui celebrated the opening of an assembly plant here. While the Detroit 3 CEOs set off to Washington to beg for a bailout package, about 1,000 new Honda employees clapped along to Van Morrison's "Bright Side of the Road" blaring from speakers. The celebration of Honda's sixth assembly plant in North America seemed a continent away from troubled Detroit, where each day seems to bring more bad news for General Motors, Ford Motor Co. and Chry…

Though there might be 5 people here who will take my word for it, I decided I'd post about my experience with the new for 2007 CR-V, a car poised to make great volume gains for Honda. Let me preface this by saying I've only driven two direct competitors and those are the Rav4 and Escape, as of today. I would love to sample the Vue, since in terms of overall design polish I believe it's currently at or near the top of the heap. In person, the new design is substantial and completely modern. There is good and bad to the design, but it mostly flows with Honda's new directive of engaging style as seen with the Civic. It retains the relatively humble and distinct Honda face …

Edmunds Evaluation: 2005 Honda FCX Not exactly a new car but only recently reviewed. Go figure. Honda admitted that the future of fuel-cell cars is uncertain and there is no guarantee that this type of car will ever make a practical contribution to meeting our transportation needs. The platinum fuel-cell stack is expensive and very labor-intensive to assemble. Notwithstanding, Honda has set an admirable example by putting 15 FCXs on the road, mainly with public agencies in California, and has another five cars that are used for Honda's internal fleet. Honda is also pressing forward with plans to introduce a production fuel-cell vehicle slated to go on sale in two yea…

Fit for fun and flexibility By Philip Reed Date posted: 03-30-2006 The 2007 Honda Fit is a triumph of creativity, proof that good ideas don't have to be expensive. Within the Lilliputian dimensions of this five-door hatchback is a world of imagination that knows few limits. It seats four comfortably (five in a pinch), offers great fuel economy (above 33 mpg), and is as easy to live with as your best friend. Let's daydream for a moment about a world where all the cars are like this little Honda. Picture highways with traffic that flows freely. Imagine twice the number of open parking spaces. And best of all, see gas stations with tumbling fuel prices. That may be a c…

A month before its showroom debut, we take a close look at — and a hard drive in — Honda's entry-level hatchback By Peter Lyon Date posted: 03-09-2006 Honda's mighty little Fit is already big news in Japan and Europe. Arguably the most practical super-mini on sale in both markets, the Fit will finally land in U.S. showrooms in April. So why did Honda wait until now to introduce its four-door hatchback into the U.S.? Ask the PR types and they'll tell you that the company wasn't sure this small people mover would catch on. Or they might say that it didn't have the size or space for the local market. Well, things have changed over the last couple of years in the U.S. s…

Full article Unfortunately the percentage of North American-made parts that went into each vehicle isn't available. It does state that Honda spends over $17.5 billion with North American parts suppliers annually. Without a frame of reference that number is sort of meaningless, but it would be interesting to see how much Toyota and other manufacturers spend annually with North American suppliers. Highlights of the article: Honda operates seven vehicle assembly plants in North America -four in the US, two in Canada, and one in Mexico. Three engine manufacturing plants in North America -two in the US, one in Canada. Two transmission and gear set manufacturing plant…

Honda Motor Co. has decided not to build an eight-cylinder engine because high fuel prices are pushing buyers to more efficient motors. The company will focus instead on expanding diesel and gasoline-electric engine output. "It's not the time to make a V-8," Honda Chief Executive Takeo Fukui said. "We need to focus on diesels and hybrids first." Fukui told reporters in Tokyo Aug. 4 that Honda was studying whether to build V-8 engines and "will decide in three years" on using them. He said Tuesday that the company has dropped any plan to build the motors. Honda this year expects to build 70,000 diesel motors, for models in Euro…

Going After the Kids By Scott Oldham Date posted: 09-22-2005 As usual, it comes down to the numbers. Honda says there will be 81.5 million Americans between the ages of 15 and 34 by the end of the decade. That's enough iPod addicts to make Gen Y the largest consumer group ever, topping even the baby boomers. In order to take advantage of this next "age wave" Honda is taking action now. After selling 7 million Civics over 22 years, the company is shifting the Civic's U.S. market focus from baby boomers to Gen Y-ers. It even says it has designed this all-new eighth generation of the Civic specifically for that 80-plus million who are packing iPods. This qualifi…

Honda Civic No Longer Recommended by Consumer Reports August 1, 2011 Cory Wolfe - CheersandGears.com Yes, you read the title correctly, Honda's long-time recommended Civic has now lost its recommended rating with Consumer Reports. Not only that, it is now ranked near the bottom of its class. According to the consumer product testing organization, the new Civic's shortcomings have been eclipsed by "the high bar set in this class by the new-to-market Chevrolet Cruze, the redesigned-for-2012 Ford Focus, and the redesigned-for-2011 Hyundai Elantra". It's more than just the new comers, with its ratings dropping low enough to fall behind every competitor except the recent…

Honda Civic Type-R Concept - first pics Thursday 23 February 2006 20:08:42 by Luca Here it is, the eagerly awaited Honda Civic Type-R Concept that will be presented next week in Geneva. This Concept should be very similar to the production 3-door version. In the Type-R and in this yellow livery it resembles a bad-ass car out the Mugen shop more than a "factory" Honda. I guess this version will put to rest once and for all Top Gear's saying that only old people buy Hondas in Europa, nowadays. The concept has the 200 ps 2.0 liters i-VTEC engine of the previous Type-R. We still don't know it the production Type-R will have the same engine. Link: http://www.euro…

Man, you'd think Honda would have relocated the oil filter to solve this serious problem by now. Are they ever going to do it, or will they keep shifting the blame to the dealerships? To no mechanics surprise, the CRV fires have continued to be reported on the 2005 model year CRV. Here is a description of the design change that seems to makes this model more susceptible to the fires than the old ones. "For the GEN2 CR-V, the oil filter is located in close proximity to the hottest portion of the exhaust system; in the GEN1 design the engine block separate these components. Additionally, and due primarliy to more stringent tailpipe emission standrads, the GEN2…

This brings the Honda family of Green Cars to the following 5 models: Clarity Fuel Cell Clarity Electric Clarity Plug-In Hybrid Insight Hybrid Accord Hybrid These are all cars in the age of CUVs & SUVs. Does it make sense for Honda to be building all these new car models when the newest Honda Accord is sitting on the lots with 104 day supply at the end of March and now at over 145 day supply Honda is idling for 2 weeks the 4,200 employees at the Marysville Ohio plant. Honda hybrids may cut into Detroit's market share May 21, 2008 4:49 PM ET Link to Source DETROIT (AP) - Honda Motor Co. is coming out with hybrid cars starting early next year that will cost about $1,900 more than comparable gas-only models. The cost for the Detroit Three, according to industry analysts, could be lower market share as U.S. consumers continue their rapid shift to smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles. Analysts say the new hybrids, including a gas-electric hybrid-only model to fight the popular Toyota Prius and a hybrid version of the subcompact Fit, will hit the market at the right time with gasoline prices continuing to rise. "It's a game-changer …

Honda has risen from a company that was best known for its motorcycles 40 years ago to a company that is one of the top automotive manufacturers in the world today. In 2008, Honda supplanted Chrysler as the fourth best selling automaker in the U.S. and they were in sixth place in global auto sales. Their story is truly impressive. But lately the automaker has faced numerous challenges, including declining sales. We look at four reasons why Honda is in decline. 1. Not Improving Quality. What is surprising about Honda is that despite spending billions of dollars a year on research and development, their new models and new generation models have not raised the bar. In f…

Honda reportedly kills S2000 replacement, V8 program, RWD Acuras Jan 6th 2009 at 12:58PM Link to Autoblog Honda's attempt to right-size its development schedule and cope with the economic downturn apparently extends beyond the cancellation of the next NSX. According to Autocar, HoMoCo is right-sizing its plans for the next two years, and that includes rethinking the development of a range of rear-wheel-drive Acuras, a new V8, a convertible based on the CR-Z and the S2000's successor. Acura seems to be carrying the weight of the bad news, with its RWD 7-series rival, originally due out in 2015, cancelled indefinitely, along with development of a V8 engine that would a…

Honda Loses Insight; Relays Future Hybrid Insight Honda has announced they are dropping the Insight hybrid. It's just as well as it's pretty much the most impractical hybrid ever made. A compact, two-setaer whose only goal is to save gas and to hell with anything else doesn't seem to have a wide appeal. Production ends in Septemeber and it's replacement will not appear until 2009. Honda Motor Co. is carefully allocating shipments of cars to the United States because its exports there from Japan are "losing money," CFO Fumihiko Ike said. Honda won't cut off all shipments of those imported nameplates, including the Fit subcompact and the Insight and CR-Z hybrids, Ike said. But he said the company needs to minimize the impact of such shipments on its balance sheet. That means that in some cases dealers are getting fewer vehicles than they might like. ... Asked whether Honda makes any profit on Fits sent to the United States, Ike said flatly, "No." http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20120611/OEM01/306119947/1117/honda-u-s-imports-l…

Honda needs to get its mojo back Can the automaker recapture its innovative spirit? James B. Treece Automotive News / February 27, 2006 - 6:00 am TOKYO -- Can Honda Motor Co. get its mojo back? From 1995 to 2000, Honda was the hottest, most innovative Japanese carmaker. A string of hits, led by the Odyssey minivan and CR-V car-based small SUV, set Honda apart. Toyota Motor Corp. responded by copying Honda's ideas and designs. Nissan Motor Co., Mitsubishi Motors Corp. and Mazda Motor Corp. were left in the dust. Honda's reputation then was reminiscent of Sony Corp.'s in its glory days. Sony didn't unveil a trendsetting Walkman every year. But it came up with innova…
