So there is a post here on the 2015 F16 (see photo below) http://www.bmwcoop.com/2013/12/17/2015-f16-bmw-x6-on-the-market-starting-with-2014/#comment-18021 Great post and all so I encourage you to check it out but I have a much more pedestrian interest in it: I want to know what's up with the wrpa the car is wearing. Anyone know why they wrapped this in swirly black and white? Is it to deter photos?

So to separate the 2 door from the 4 door they create the 4 Series. 3 Series= 4 door 4 Series = 2 door But now they are going to build the 4 Series Gran Coupe, which is just a f'n 4 door with a hatchback http://www.carscoops.com/2013/11/spied-bmw-4-series-wears-fours-doors.html So they'll have a 4 door in a 4 Series, but it will be a "Coupe." Screw you BMW.

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com October 24, 2013 BMW has taken the covers off the new 2-Series Coupe before its official debut at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show in January. The new 2-Series continues BMW's trend of naming coupes and convertibles as even numbers. The 2-Series is much more streamlined and better proportioned than the 1-Series it replaces. Dimensionally, the 2-Series is about 2.8 inches longer, 1.3 inches wider, and rides on a wheelbase that is 1.3 inches longer. Under the hood are two different engines. 228i: 2.0L Turbo-Four, 240 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque M235i: 3.0L turbocharged inline-six, 322 horsepower and 332 pound-fe…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com October 7, 2013 Audi has done it since the start of their S and RS lineup; Mercedes-Benz has begun to do it with AMG, and now it appears BMW is thinking about adding it to their M cars again. What am I referring to is the addition of all-wheel drive. Motoring spoke with BMW M's president Friedrich Nitschke who revealed that the next-generation M5 and M6 could come with the option of all-wheel drive. “On our cars we are thinking of all-wheel drive, but it won’t come before we get the successor of the M5 and M6. That’s the timing and it’s not practical to react in the current life cycles. It would also be an additional op…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com May 17, 2013 Sometimes, you get very lucky with spy shots by catching a new model without any camo or a giant cover over it. Case in point is the new BMW 2-Series coupe which was caught during what appears to be a photo shoot. The new 2-Series coupe looks to have a similar roofline as the current 1-Series coupe. The front and rear ends have been cleaned up and smoothed over. The model seen in the shots is reportedly the new M235i with a set of large wheels, slimmer headlamps, and large air intakes on either side of the front end. Power will come from two engines. BMW's TwinPower turbo-four will be in the base 228i co…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com June 15, 2013 Almost a year after BMW introduced the new 3-Series, the roundel has introduced the coupe variation with the 4-Series. Yes, we're still scratching our heads as to why BMW thought this was a good idea. The 4-Series' look is very much a 3-Series with two less doors and a lot of body sculpting. There is also wider front and rear tracks. Inside is the same story with coupe have the interior as the sedan and similar trim lines – Luxury, Sport and M Sport. Powering the 4-Series is either a 2.0L turbocharged inline-four (428i) with 240 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque, or turbocharged 3.0L inline-six (435i…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 27, 2012 If you walk into a BMW dealership and are wondering why certain 1, 3, and Z4 models are wearing the "is" badge, that's BMW distinction for their performance models that sit between the normal and M models. The 'is' badge will soon be going away though. According to Car and Driver, BMW will be replacing 'is' nomenclature with the M Performance Line. For those who need a quick refresher, the M Performance Line will give BMW vehicles tweaks from BMW's M division under the hood, exterior, and interior. So vehicles like the 135is and 335is will wear the M135i and M335i. The vehicles that are pegged to become …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 12, 2012 When BMW introduced their M Performance vehicles lineup, enthusiasts in the U.S. had wet dreams of M550d xDrive sedans and wagons, X5 and X6 M50d crossovers, and the M135i hatchbacks roaming the roads. However, the dreams would be dashed due to emission regulations or the mantra of "Americans don't buy hatchbacks." However, there appears to be some hope on the horizon. According to Autoweek, BMW is working a M Performance vehicle to be shown at the 2014 North American International Auto Show called the M235i coupe. M235i? Let me explain. The rumors of the BMW 3-Series coupe and convertible moving the 4-Ser…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com April 5, 2013 Chew on this for a moment: "One in four new BMW cars is now a BMW SAV." SAV for those who don't know BMW lingo is for sport activity vehicle, or what we could call a crossover. Its one reason why BMW's X lineup has grown from the lowly X5 to a family of vehicles including the X1, X3, X5, and X6. Its also why at the Shanghai Motor Show BMW will be showing smaller crossover coupe called the X4 Concept. The X4 Concept's design can best be explained as a X6 left in the washing machine a bit too long. In other words, its a polarizing design in a smaller package. We don't know any details on the interior or wh…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 5, 2013 If you happen to be that person who likes the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe, but thinks its a bit too big, then pay close attention to this story. A new set of spy shots have come out showing a BMW 3-Series with a lot of camouflage all over the rear end. This is believed to be the new 4-Series Gran Coupe. The clues that lead to this conclusion is the mule measuring about the same as the 3-Series GT and different rear end styling. Rumors have BMW showing the 4-Series Gran Coupe sometime next year with sales beginning in 2015. Source: Autoblog William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gears. He can be …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 29, 2013 For the past few years on the automotive auto show circuit, BMW has been showing off two concept vehicles that previews a new sub-brand; the i3 electric vehicle and i8 plug-in hybrid. Today in New York City, BMW pulled the covers off the first production vehicle of their new i sub-brand, the i3. The BMW i3 is definitely a different type of vehicle from the Munich automaker. Built on what BMW calls the LifeDrive architecture, the i3 comes in two parts. First is the Life Module which is the i3's body. The Life Module is made out of carbon fiber reinforced plastic which contributes to the i3's curb weight of a…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com May 30, 2013 While it might not be the most exciting vehicle in the BMW lineup, the X5 has played a very important role for BMW. Since its introduction back in 1999, BMW has moved close to 1.3 million X5s. Last year, the X5 was BMW USA's third best selling vehicle, right behind the 3 and 5-Series. But with the current X5 going on seven years, BMW knew it was time to introduce a new X5. The 2014 BMW X5's design is very much in line with the current X3. Up front is a wide kidney grill that is flanked by a set of Adaptive Xenon headlights. There is also a set redesigned air intakes. Along the side is a distinctive charac…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 12, 2013 Automobile Magazine got their hands on a document issued by BMW to its dealers detailing what products would be arriving to dealers. The information, to say in the least is very interesting. We'll start with the big news first: diesels. July will be the month when BMW will begin production of the 3-Series with a diesel engine. The engine in question is a 2.0L inline-four that will be available in rear or all-wheel drive models. Wearing the 328d badge, it will be available in a sedan and a first for the U.S., a wagon. In other diesel news, the 5-Series will also be getting a twin-turbocharged 3.0L inli…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com February 14, 2013 The BMW X6 is one of those vehicles that many ask why. Why does it exist? Well there is some reason as to why BMW is going ahead with a next-generation model, due within the eighteen months. Autocar reports that the next-generation X6 will get a more aggressive appearance, helping differentiating itself from the X5. The X6 will be using the X5’s platform, which will be shorten for the X6.Under the skin, the X6 will retain its monocoque chassis, but use much more high-strength steel. Powertrains will likely remain the same but with some new tweaks. That means the 3.0L turbocharged inline-six and 4.4L…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com January 30, 2013 BMW is hard at work on a front-wheel drive assault, with the company considering almost twenty-three FWD vehicles (Twelve for BMW, eleven for MINI). One of those vehicles could be a two-seat roadster, due out in 2015 “We are considering a car in the spirit of the original Z3. It is of similar size to the E36/7 [the codename for the Z3 produced between 1996 and 2002] but is planned to use the front-wheel drive platform to keep costs down and achieve a margin level that ensures it is sustainable at comparatively low production volumes,” a BMW official reportedly told Autocar. Codenamed Z2, the model w…

By William Maley January 24, 2013 Today, BMW and Toyota have signed binding agreements on jointly developing hydrogen fuel cell powertrains, a sports car platform, lightweight materials, and a lithium-air battery. The binding agreements finalize a technology partnership that was announced in December 2011. On the fuel cell front, BMW and Toyota will combine their existing resources and knowledge to develop a complete fuel-cell vehicle system; including a fuel stack, hydrogen tank, motor and battery, by 2020. The two companies will also look into the infrastructure needed for hydrogen. Also planned is research into lithium-air batteries which promise five times the ene…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com January 15, 2013 Along with the 4-Series Coupe concept and new M6 Gran Coupe, BMW introduced a new 3-Series model at the Detroit Auto Show. No, its not the 3-Series diesel or the new M3. What it happens to be is the new 320i, the most affordable 3-Series. The 320i has been on sale other markets since the current-generation 3 Series was introduced, but it goes on sale in the US this spring with a starting price of $33,445* (includes $895 for destination), which is $3,405 less than the base price of the 328i ($36,850). For that price, you get a 2.0L turbocharged inline-four producing 180 horsepower and 200 pound-feet. S…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com December 12, 2012 Its a BMW M5 with a sexier four-door coupe body. No, wait! Its a BMW M6 Coupe with two extra doors. However you want describe the new M6 Gran Coupe, it is the latest vehicle from BMW's performance division. Like the M5 and M6, the M6 Gran Coupe uses the 4.4L twin-turbo that produces 560 HP and 500 lb-ft of torque that is available from 1,500 to 5,750 rpm. The power is sent to a a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and an exclusive electronically controlled Active M Differential before reaching the rear wheels. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com December 5, 2012 For the past year or so, we been reporting on whether the next-generation BMW 3-Series coupe and convetible would be sticking with the 3-Series or moving up to the 4-Series. Well, BMW has made the decision to go with the 4-Series for the next-generation coupe and convertible as evidenced by BMW revealing the new 4-Series coupe concept. The 4-Series coupe concept shares a similar style to the 3-Series sedan, but the coupe sports more aggressive body work, including dramatic sculpting on the front bumper, a more pointed front grille, full LED headlights, and fender gills. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 13, 2012 This past week, a picture of a slideshow made its way onto the VWVortex forums. The picture shows what BMW might have planned for diesels in the U.S. in next couple of years. Starting next year, the 3-Series sedan will bring back a diesel option in the first quarter. The second quarter BMW will introduce the 3-Series wagon with a diesel. In the third quarter, the 5-Series diesel will come out and will be followed by the new X5 diesel at the end of the year. For 2014, the 7-Series and X3 join in on the diesel fun. What engines are in play with this plan? We know that a single-turbo 2.0L four-cylinder an…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 26, 2012 For the longest time, we've been hearing reports and rumors that BMW would separate the 3-Series sedans and the 3-Series coupe/convertible, giving the coupes and convertibles the 4-Series moniker. Well, a new report from Automobile Magazine says the 4-Series is a done deal. Automobile says BMW is moving this way to make money. Using the example of a similarly equipped 5-Series sedan and 6-Series Gran Coupe, the Gran Coupe would cost a third more than a 5-Series sedan. Separating the coupe and convertible from the sedan would allow BMW to charge a bit more. The model breakdown for the 3-Series and 4-Se…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 14, 2012 For awhile now, we been reporting about BMW heading to the front-wheel for certain number of their upcoming vehicles. Now, we get our first peek into that future with the Concept Active Tourer. The Concept Active Tourer is BMW’s interpretation of the tall-hatchback shape (Mercedes-Benz B-Class). The front end features the twin-kidney grille, angular headlights, and large air dams on the front bumper. Around the side, the Concept Active Tourer has a distinctive character line. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 9, 2012 BMW has revealed some new information on the ActiveHybrid 3 and 3-Series Sports Wagon over the past couple of days. Lets start with the ActiveHybrid3. The hybrid version of the new 3-Series will pack the 3.0L turbocharged inline-six from the 335i and a electric motor with a lithium-ion battery pack to produce 340 HP and 332 lb-ft of torque. Going to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic, the ActiveHybrid3 can reach 60 MPH in 5.3 seconds, 0.2 quicker than the 335i. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 2, 2012 If you happen to be one of those people who has an allergic reaction just seeing a picture of a BMW 5-Series GT, then I recommend closing out or go back to the main page and read something else. Despite the 5-Series GT not being the sales success BMW has wanted it to be, they seem to be soldiering on with it and are working on a smaller version. New spy shots released this week show BMW testing a 3-Series GT. Like the 5-Series GT, this 3-Series GT mule has a rounded roofline. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 16, 2012 With the last generation 3-Series and current X5, BMW brought back the diesel engine to their lineup. A 3.0L inline-six producing 265 HP and 425 lb-ft of torque. That could send a 3-Series to 60 MPH in 5.3 seconds and a X5 in 6.9 seconds. However, the concern is not performance, but fuel economy. BMW realizes this and has a pair of new diesel engines on their way to show it. This past Friday, Automobile senior editor Jason Cammisa tweeted out that BMW would introduce a 2.0L, single-turbo, inline-four diesel engine producing 180 HP and 280 lb-ft of torque. There is also a second diesel engine on its way. B…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 19, 2012 BMW has long maintained there would be no M version of the 7-Series sedan, despite competitors offering a performance version of their flagship sedans. However, BMW could be changing their tune. Automobile Magazine has learned the next generation 7-Series could be seeing a sort of, kind of M7 called the M770i xDrive. The M770i xDrive will likely use a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 producing 475 HP and 480 lb-ft of torque. While those numbers sound impressive, the M770i xDrive pales in comparison to the V12 760i which comes with 570 HP and a 665 lb-ft of torque. But the M770i xDrive will be more agile than a 760i than…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com June 21, 2012 The saga of what will power the next BMW M3 soliders on. So far, the leading contender is a twin-turbo V6. Sources tell BimmerToday that BMW will equip the next M3 with 3.2L inline-six delivering 450 HP (480 HP with a performance package) and reach a top speed of 300 KPH (186 MPH). The fundamentals of the new engine come from the current M3’s 4.0L V8. Sources also reveal that BMW had built some prototype V6 engines for testing under the codename of "Apollo". William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com December 10, 2011 It seems every automaker is introducing four-door coupe. Within the past few years Mercedes has introduced the CLS, Volkswagen with the CC, Porsche and the beluga whale or Panamera, and Audi with the A7. Now, BMW has introduced their four-door coupe; the 6 Series Grand Sport. The 6 Series Grand Sport started life as a concept at the 2010 Beijing Motor Show and is almost a direct copy of the concept. As the name implies, the four-door coupe is based on the 6 Series coupe, but is stretched a full 4.4 inches, meaning more space for back passengers. Power will come from two engines; a 3.0L turbocharged …

Rumorpile: BMW Coupe To Be Named 3 Series or 4 Series? William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com October 24, 2011 A week ago, BMW did a big rollout for the next generation 3-Series starting with the sedan. Now spy shots have emerged of the coupe undergoing some testing. Design wise, the coupe will share a family resemblance with the sedan. The coupe will have its headlights stretched inward to meet up with the grille, a lower intake that flares wide at each corner of the car, and share the same design cues for the trunk with the new 6-Series. Engines will be same as the sedan with the choice of the between the new N20 2.0-liter turbo four, of…

More 3-Series News: Possible Diesel & Confusion Over The Wagon William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com October 19, 2011 BMW could be bringing a sequel to their previous 3-Series diesel. Inside Line was speaking with BMW's head of sales and marketing, Ian Robertson. Robertson said "the diesel infrastructure is progressing well in the U.S.," and "the negative historical baggage associated with diesel is being removed." "The X5 diesel is doing well in the U.S.. From month-to-month it accounts for a third or half of sales. It is still an issue of getting bums on seats. U.S. buyers are still astonished by how good a modern diesel is." said Ro…

BMW Quietly Says Good Bye To The X6 ActiveHybrid William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com September 20, 2011 The BMW X6 is an odd vehicle; a coupe-shaped, four-door, SUV thing that appeals to small group of people. Sales in North America have reflected this and now one of its variants is being shown the door. That variant is the X6 ActiveHybrid. Shown at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, the X6 ActiveHybrid used two electric motors to produce 91-hp and 86-hp. Combined with the 4.4L V8, the hybrid produced 480 HP and 575 lb-ft of torque. That gave the X6 ActiveHybrid a 0-60 time of 5.4 seconds and a top speed at 130 MPH, but the fuel economy was …

BMW Postpones X1 US Debut Until A Refesh William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com August 28, 2011 BMW's X series of crossovers; the X5 and new X3 have been best sellers in the lineup. But at this years North American International Auto Show, BMW said it had postponed the U.S. introduction of the X1 until late 2011, at the earliest. We drove the new BMW X3 to Hersheypark for the day, and found that the kids are jaded at their very young ages! I liked the new X3 so much more than the first generation, which I didn't think fully deserved the BMW label. What are your thoughts on the vehicle? Rolls-Royce Owners Not Thrilled On 102 EX William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 12, 2011 Currently, the new thing in the automotive industry is showing off electric vehicles. One the surprises from March's Geneva Motor Show was the Rolls-Royce 102 EX concept. Rolls took a Phantom sedan, removed the 6.75L V12 engine and replaced it with a two electric motors and a massive 71-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. Figures for the 102 EX stand at 290kW (388 HP), torque of 800Nm (590 lb-ft of torque), and a range of 100 miles. Recently, Rolls-Royce sent the 102 EX on a tour to let owners and enthusiasts drive it and give feedback to Rolls. Whe…

BMW Disappointed With 5-Series GT Sales William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 23, 2011 When BMW introduced the 5-Series GT back in 2009, the company said the vehicle was a stylish alternative (their words, not ours) to minivans and crossovers. BMW also hoped the 5-Series GT would appeal to owners of the 5-Series Touring. Well, the 5-Series GT is becoming a disappointment for BMW. According to Automotive News, BMW of North America CEO Jim O’Donnell said sales of the 5-Series GT in the US have been disappointing. BMW had hoped the 5-Series GT would sell around 4,000 to 8,000 per year, but has only sold 2,848 vehicles in 2010. That's only…

Looks like BMW may be looking to expand into yet more markets. Spy Shots: BMW flings M3 pickup around the 'Ring There aren't words to convey just how happy this makes us. With Spring officially licking at the sanctified asphalt of the Nürburgring, testing season has kicked into high gear. Our elite squad of spy photographers has set up camp to take in the action and happened to catch this bizarre beastie obliterating its tires amongst a herd of other BMW mules. As you might expect, there's exactly zero information on the machine other than it looks for all the world to be an M3 pickup.

"Happiness isn't around the corner. Happiness IS the corner." So said an ad for BMW created in 1996 for the Z3. In the TV version (see the video at the very bottom after the break), a heavy-metal music track underlined the idea, which was carried over to magazines and billboards. I'm reminded of that ad, one of the more perfect expressions of the BMW brand I have ever seen, this week as I take in the Bavarian automaker's plan to launch vehicles powered by "alternative" powertrains under the "i" sub-brand: as in, yes, iPad, iPod, iMac. So far, I'm not hearing about Apple filing trademark infractions. It is, I believe, also "i" as i Isetta, the last time BMW brought out a …

HANNOVER, Germany — Thermaltake, the Taiwanese manufacturer of computer cases and cooling equipment, unveiled its "Level 10" PC case at the annual CeBIT computer exposition here. The Thermaltake Gaming Tower was designed by the Munich studio of BMW's DesignworksUSA. Instead of utilizing the normal strategy of throwing all the different computer parts into one bulky, rectangular case, BMW dreamt up this idea of using a separate protective case for each component. The design of the Thermaltake Gaming Tower makes the inside components visible to help with cooling and make it look more appealing to the user. An innovative feature of the concept is its smart locking system…

Diana T. Kurylko Automotive News February 13, 2009 - 1:12 pm ET In an attempt to boost sales and lower its lease penetration level, BMW of North America LLC has introduced an incentive program that will make the first two payments for certain vehicles financed through its captive finance arm. The two free payments of as much as $750 a month, a maximum of $1,500 combined, is being offered on 18 models with high inventory levels, says a BMW spokesman. Eligible models include the 1 series and certain 3, 5, 6 and X5 variants. The offer does not include the 7 series, which is being replaced at the end of March, or the limited-production X6 crossover. BMW 5-series GT Greg Kable AutoWeek February 13, 2009 - 9:32 am ET BMW's desire to compete in every conceivable luxury-market niche has moved up a gear with the unveiling of the 5-series GT, a car known until now by its working title, the Progressive Activity Sedan. Although BMW will be billing the five-door liftback as a concept at its public showing at the Geneva motor show in early March, little about its bold design is expected to change before it reaches showrooms. In fact, the official photographs reveal the new car in its production-based glory. Only the trim will be altered before it sees the showroom, BMW says. By insisting that it is called a GT…

http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle.aspx?AR=236253 From Autocar(UK): Car makers that had seemed in a strong position to weather the global economic storm have publicly admitted a 'crisis' as sales continue to slow down. BMW's boss Norbert Reithofer yesterday described the situation to Germany's Spiegel magazine as "the worst crisis BMW has faced in its history". Despite the slow sales, it is the German giant's reliance on leasing that has put it in a very vulnerable position. Meanwhile Daimler boss Deiter Zetsche assessed the current conditions as "the worst crisis since World War II". Martin Winterkorn, boss of Volkswagen, told reporters: "We have neve…

BMW M3 recalled over new double-clutch gearbox From AutoBlog Dual clutch transmission... sounds complicated. And it is. Case in point: BMW's new DCT on its latest-generation M3. This new transmission from Munich is so complicated that apparently even BMW couldn't get it right the first time, so they're issuing a recall. The problem, as concluded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is that under hard braking the transmission's software is prone to initiate a multi-stage downshift, which could cause the car to stall. The solution, however, should be fairly simple, as BMW is asking all owners of 2008 or 2009 M3s equipped with the DCT (about 2,500 …

BMW to sell engines to Mercedes, others Posted Oct 24th 2008 7:01PM Link to Autoblog BMW, the Munich-based German automaker, is reportedly in discussion with other automakers -- rivals in some cases -- to sell their engines and transmissions. Klaus Draeger, BMW's head of development, told Auto Motor und Sport that the automaker is in advanced talks with Mercedes-Benz about licensing engines to its Stuttgart-based competitor. Specifics have not been announced, but one likely candidate would be BMW's new V-12, set to debut in the new 7 Series and baby Rolls-Royce sedan. Mercedes would drop it under the hood of their flagship S-Class and Maybach. There was no mention…

The BMW GINA Light Visionary Model that was seen via video being installed in the BMW Museum in Munich last week has finally been revealed, and the futuristic design study shows how BMW designers are thinking outside of the box when it comes to the materials that make up a car and also how the car relates to the driver. GINA stands for "Geometry and Functions in 'N' Adaptations", which basically means that designers from both BMW and BMW Group DesignworksUSA were allowed to throw out the rulebook. This is most evident in the GINA Light Visionary Model's outer skin, which is made entirely out of textile fabric that's pulled taut around a frame of metal and carbon fiber wir…

Good news out of Frankfurt today—according to a new report in Automotive News, BMW’s forthcoming 1-series coupe will nose in under $30,000 when it arrives in the U.S. this spring. While that’s hardly discount stuff, the rear-drive, entry-level offering has enthusiasts salivating, because even the entry-level 128i will arrive packing a 230-horsepower inline-6. The even more compelling 300-horsepower 135i will command closer to $35k as a starting point, but that should still be enough to spirit away a few sales from Audi A3 and Volvo C30 intenders. BMW’s CEO, Tom Purves, also thinks that the MSRP will be low enough that it will cajole “customers from the likes of Honda, To…

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/autoshow...*#08bmwx6crg500 What is it? 2009 BMW X6 What's special about it? Coupelike agility combined with SUV utility? That's the promise of the 2009 BMW X6. It sounds like a stretch, but if any company can pull it off, BMW can. It already made its X5 SUV handle like a sedan, so making the similarly sized (although slightly lower) X6 feel like a coupe isn't impossible. A choice of two turbocharged engines should help. Base models, which will be known as the xDrive35i, will get the same twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-6 as the 3 and 5 Series sedans. It delivers 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, so even the entry-level X6…

Yes, BMW is leaving no market sector unoccupied with its 1-series. Due to be unveiled at next year's Detroit motorshow in January - BMW is hoping that 1-series coupe and convertible take-up in America will boost 1-series past the half million mark. It arrives here in April with the range spearheaded by the flagship 135i convertible, available in BMW's two familiar trim levels - SE and M Sport. We anticipate the topdog M Sport to wear an anticipated £34,000 price tag. Expect it be followed by the 125i powered by BMW's 218bhp 2.5-litre six-cylinder petrol engine as well as the 204bhp twin-turbo 123d diesel by the end of the year. SPY SHOTS! 2009 BMW X6 Link to Original Article @ Jalopnik According to the report from the wily spy shooters of KGP, they happened upon a group of BMW engineers out testing the new BMW X6 who'd run into a bit of trouble in the 128-degree heat of a "desolate California road." We'll let KGP take over from here: Despite the giveaways offered by the spy shots, it's still hard for us to determine the overall design of the X6, but the look we've now got due to these shots certainly makes it easier.

We're expecting the new 7-Series to have a completely new front end, similar to the 6-Series styling, and sources say the current model's extravagant design will be toned down quite a bit. The sedan should have a more elegant look than ever before. The position of the headlights and turn signals indicate low-mounted, wrap-around headlights and a wide grille, as well as a sleeker body and a more dramatic overall appearance. In addition to…

Spied: 2008 BMW 6-Series Looks like the 2008 BMW 6 Series is getting some exterior updates. Well, actually it doesn't look like it's getting some updates, but when you examine these pictures very closely there are some subtle changes to this 6 Series test mule that indicate a midcycle refresh. The front air dam has a slightly different shape around the fog lights while the rear end is sporting a slightly revised fascia as well. We didn’t catch any interior shots, but we're guessing the 6 Series will get the same shifter first introduced in the X5 along with some minor trim changes. Look for the 2008 BMW 6 Series in dealers by the end of this year. Edmunds

The chatter about BMW acquiring Volvo from Ford started in earnest a couple of weeks ago, and has gotten much louder in the last few days. Neither BMW nor Ford will comment, but apparently sources within Ford, BMW, and Volvo have confirmed to various news entities that Volvo is in play, but there is no consensus on where Volvo will go when it leaves Ford. Some say Volvo will go to BMW, some say it’s going to a private-equity firm, a la Chrysler/Cerberus, and some point to VW as a dark-horse contender for the company. And, of course, it may not go anywhere. Although it’s worth pointing out that we predicted in December 2006 that Ford would certainly sell Jaguar, Aston Mar…

BMW CS Concept revealed (New 8-Series?) BMW has taken the wraps off the CS Concept — a new "four-door-coupe" designed to tackle the Mercedes CLS, Porsche Panamera, and Maserati Quattroporte. The car is likely a preview of the recently rumored 8-Series revival, or alternatively a four-door 6-Series. Either way, it points to BMW's future design direction for the company as a whole. The debut of the CS Concept follows a report by German car magazine Auto Zeitung that claimed BMW would launch a four-door coupe using the 8-Series designation, starting with a new 850i. In June 2006, Germany's Auto Bild ran a cover story on BMW's planned rival to the Mercedes CLS. The magazin…

Our friends at KGP Photography have cracked off some excellent shots of what they believe is an early BMW X6 mule. Derived from the new X5, the new crossover will apparently weigh style over utility, with a more aggressively sloped roofline and steep windshield. The spy shooters originally thought they could be looking at another planned X5-based vehicle, the V5, but given the fact that it doesn't appear to be very efficient in terms of packaging (The V5 is said to be pitched at Mercedes-Benz's R-Class), they've decided otherwise. 2008 BMW M5 Touring BMW’s hottest property at the Geneva motor show in March will likely be an M5 Touring (wagon) version of its screaming M5 sedan. Spied: BMW Z9 BMW is testing new prototypes for a new convertible. Whether this is the new Z4 or the more upscale Z9 is a matter of intense conjecture at this point. We originally thought Z4, but closer inspection suggests that this could be BMW’s SL-fighter–the Z9. This prototype is clearly larger than today’s Z4, but that also supports earlier reports that the next-gen Z4 would be growing up a bit to make room for an entry-level Z2 roadster. The most noteworthy details on this prototype are the side windows–a glass-to-glass pillarless design reminiscent of the BMW 8-series and the Mercedes CL. Is that enough of a clue to prove this is the Z9? Quite possibly, especial…
