Decades ago I sent away to get the factory paperwork for my '64 GP from a company that bought up (actually, I heard they were rescued from a dumpster and an agreement was reached) PMD's records. Just like anyone who's interested in their car's history/numbers, one of the things that tends to occupy the minds of car hobbyists is their car's past life. Specifically, what dealership did it come from? Well, this paperwork included what's called a 'build manifest', which shows the VIN, options codes, other bits, plus the dealership numerical code. Here's one (see "07 679") - this is the 'factory's copy' : This particular manifest is from the Car & Driver '6…

On this day 129 years ago, August 21st, 1897, Oldsmobile was founded by Ransom E. Olds. Oldsmobile was always a leader in technology, leading the way for features like the Automatic transmission, front-wheel drive in mass market cars, overhead valve V8s, GPS and more. Olds styling was typically subdued and handsome rather than brash and garish (except for 1958). Usually a best seller, the Oldsmobile Cutlass was often the top selling nameplate in the US in the 1970s and 1980s. And though a technology leading division for GM in the late 1990s, the public couldn't get around the name "Oldsmobile" and along with GM's financial troubles, GM decided to fold the m…

This is the year the Cutlass Supreme really began to take off. (The "rocket" took off even faster and higher in 1976.) The cleaning up of the grille and the insertion of the Olds logo in the rear lamps, among other things, really made it stand out with consumers. This color was unmistakably 1975. I forgot what it was called. The Schwinn bicycle metallic blue that year was called Spectre Blue Metallic. This is one good looking vehicle. But then, people who order cars don't always know what they're doing. Here are a couple of misses: the body side moldings are too wide, the white letter tires are obnoxious (a thin whitewall would have worked better), and, mo…

These were rare, with the 2.5 L (151 c.i.) "Iron Duke" 4 cylinder. I believe it's half a 301 V8, or something like that. The notion of a cast iron block and cast iron head 4 cylinder engine was talked up by Pontiac in pitching this engine is some of its cars. I couldn't believe this '82 F-Bird car was in Australia. When they did the walk around, it was in fact right drive. So, I guess the F-body made it "Down Under." It must have been a low mileage unit. The sound of the engine was decent at both idle and when being driven around and being pushed through its automatic gears. But I heard that the "Iron Dukes" did not fare well over the long haul. (They went…

Nearly three years after ending local production in Australia, General Motors announced this morning in Australia that Holden will cease to exist by the end of the year. The move will see 800 jobs going away and the closure of the Melbourne design studio and Lang Lang proving ground. In a statement, GM International Operations Senior Vice President Julian Blissett said the company made the difficult decision to close operations after varying attempts to try and rejuvenate the brand. “Over recent years, as the industry underwent significant change globally and locally, we implemented a number of alternative strategies to try to sustain and improve the business, togethe…

It hasn't been an easy go for Holden for almost the last decade. Sales have been declining for the past eight years and buyers haven't been wowed by either the new Commodore or their growing lineup of crossovers. This has reportedly brought the vultures out. The Australian Financial Review reported yesterday that Inchcape, one of the largest independent vehicle importers has started discussions with General Motors about possibly taking over the importation of Holden vehicles. According to sources, the talks are going very slowly and there are "extreme sensitivities on both sides of the negotiating table." The talks will not include the transfer of Holden's engineerin…

2018 has not been kind to Holden. Sales have been stagnant and the brand saw its worst monthly sales of 3,927 cars in July. Market share has also been dropping to below five percent during the year. Now, the brand has halted production of the Commodore and Equinox in an effort to reduce a massive stockpile of vehicles. According to Wheels, Holden ordered way too many vehicles before it ceased local manufacturing in late 2017. But the past year has proven to be difficult with sales dropping and causing vehicles to sit in paddocks and holding yards, gathering dust. “The sales were going like that,” said Holden chairman Dave Buttner, motioning to the ground. “… and…

No one was quite sure what would happen to Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) after the end of the RWD Commodore. Rumors abounded from a modified Colorado to the importation of the Camaro. We finally have some concrete answers. Today in Australia, Holden and HSV made a joint announcement of a new agreement between the two companies. HSV will now use their engineering talents that created some mad Holdens into expanding Holden's range to new levels, along with importing various GM products. “This marks a whole new era for HSV and Holden and I hope our customers are as excited as we are. HSV is moving beyond simply ‘hotting up’ existing models, and customer…

I know Drew loves molasses-slow Oldsmobiles ( ) but man could this be a killer 'run for the money' machine! Police-package akin to the Toronado GT powertrain, 390 HP 455 car. One-hand-behind-back simple to build this to 500+ HP. Go cruise and take people's money all day (even that mercedes they show beating a top fuel dragster in a straight line). https://www.ebay.com/itm/123066417340?ul_noapp=true

It was a sad day when Holden announced that the next Commodore, the ZB, would switch from its rear-drive roots that it had since it was first launched back in the late 70's to front-wheel drive. We have been wondering if this decision was made back in 2013 when the news first came out or earlier. According to a report from Australian outlet Motoring, discussions about possibly using the next-generation Insignia date back to 2010 and the final decision would follow a year later. “It was really a case of how many architectures could General Motors afford to develop, and how many different people wanted to use Zeta versus something like this (E2)," said Brett Vivian, Ho…

Automakers have a number of projects that never see the light of day. But sometimes, a shelved project will be revealed and cause many to wonder 'what if?' News.com.au reports a new book out next month says Holden was working on a top secret electric supercar that would have been faster than Bugatti Veyron. But this project was canned in 2008 as the global financial crisis began to take hold. The new book - Holden: Our Car - says Holden did the design and engineering work before presenting it to executives in Detroit. Images from a video touting GM's global design showed a Holden supercar with gullwing doors and profile similar to McLaren 570S. According to sour…

The Zeta RWD platform had so much promise when it launched with 2006 Holden Commodore. Plans were drawn up for a number of models that would have included a number of the GM brands, including Cadillac. But the 2008 financial crisis and subsequent bankruptcy of GM saw many of those plans go into the trashbin and would ultimately mark the beginning of the end of Holden's local production. We have learned about one of those Zeta projects. Motoring reports that Holden was working on a Zeta-based SUV that would compete against the Ford Territory, a model that used the underpinnings of the Falcon. “There was an SUV and that was probably one of the defining moments aro…

At 10:45 AM this morning at Holden's Elizabeth plant in South Australia, the final Australian-built vehicle rolled down the assembly line - a VF II SS V Redline complete with six-speed manual. The vehicle marked the end of 69 years of Holden production in Australia with 7,687,675 vehicles built. It also marks the end of Australian car production with Ford ending theirs last year and Toyota wrapping up a few weeks ago. Holden held a private ceremony at the plant for the 945 workers where they saw the final Commodore and three other models; Caprice V, SS Ute, and a Commodore Calais V V6 (the only model fitted with an Australian-built engine). The final four will …

I'm on a quest for a W-body daily driver with nice power, good looks, reliability, and a bit of luxury. I found a bunch of nice Impala LSs but they are all a little on the pricey side... But I also found a pair of Intrigues that I really like... They are both almost identical, silver, similar features, almost exact same price... the big difference is one is the 3.5L Shortstar and the other is the good old 3.8. I know the 3.5 is well known for its smoothness, and the 3.8 for durability. How do they compare power/torque wise? Which one would be more reliable? Does the 3.5 have the same expensive problems as its bigger Cadillac cousin?

When the final Australian-built Holden Commodore rolls down the line next month, it will mark the end a number things including the end of the SS nameplate. “Calais stays, but SS doesn’t. Outside of that, we’ll let you know. We’re still six months away from launch,” said Holden director of communications Sean Poppitt to CarAdvice. “The only product that currently has it [the SS name] in Australia is the V8 Commodore. So when we stop making V8s, that’s when we stop the SS. That doesn't the SS name will never return on a Holden vehicle. “It’s a GM name, so it’s also used on Camaros and other performance vehicles. None of which I can comment on coming to …

Now that the dust has settled, whats everyones view on GM after the end of Oldsmobile? Im still angry myself, and think Olds could have been a great product with more distinctive designs, maybe do what Saturn is doing now yet keep the full size cars too, not just midsize and small cars.

Those who crave a V8 model from Holden might not need to wait too long after the current Commodore finishes its run. Motoring has learned from sources that GM has given the go-ahead on sending the next-generation Corvette and current Camaro to Australia. The Corvette, which the report states will be the mid-engine model - will come as a right-hand drive model from the factory. The Camaro is a bit of a different story, however. According to Motoring, the Camaro will be converted to right-hand drive via conversion process done by Walkinshaw Group - the people behind Holden Special Vehicles (HSV). Walkinshaw Group boss Ryan Walkinshaw and HSV's Tim Jackson were lob…

Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) has been the creator of some of the maddest Holden performance vehicles like the GTSR W1 which features a 6.2L supercharged V8 with 636 horsepower. But the HSV name could be a thing of the past. CarAdvice has learned that HSV will be changing its name to Walkinshaw beginning next year. This information first was revealed by a source earlier in the year and was confirmed by three HSV dealers this week. This change means future HSV products will wear the Walkinshaw nameplate - possibly beginning with the Colorado pickup. HSV was established back in 1987 as a joint-venture between Holden and Tom Walkinshaw Racing. This replaced the Hol…

I was paging through the 1975 Olds brochure and read about engine options for the full-sized cars. What grabbed my interest was that the 88 showed a 400 V8 with >>2V<< carb as an option (along with the 455 4V) of course. For the 98, the 455 V8 was standard, while a 400 with a >>4V<< carb was an option. I think there was a thread sometime back about the 400 V8 option for the '75 Olds was a Pontiac mill...but I was surprised to see that the 88 version had a 2V carb, while the 98 version had a 4V. Of course, it could be a typo in the brochure (though it was repeated twice, once under the 88 info, and then again under the 88 Royale info). I am a geek…

Today, Holden built the last Chevrolet SS that is currently en-route to the U.S. This marks the end of Holden's export program for the Commodore for the U.S. The model in question was finished in black and comes paired with a six-speed manual. A Holden spokesperson told Motor and Motoring that the buyer of the SS had a special request for the vehicle. “Just as the vehicle was being produced, the Holden manufacturing team received a request from a US customer, asking the manufacturing employees to sign their Chevrolet SS.” The employees at Holden's Elizabeth manufacturing plant were happy to oblige, putting their signatures under the hood and on the deck lid…

Holden is doing something quite special for buyers of the final Australian-built Commodore. Here is how the ordering process will work: On April 10th, eligible customers will get a test email from Holden to make sure they have the correct email. A week before May 3rd, customers will get access to a landing page along with login credentials On May 3rd at 12 PM, customers will be able to log in and a build number, 1-1200 for Motorsport 1-360 for Dir…

The departure of the current Holden Commodore means Australians will not get their fill of V8 muscle. But it seems help could be on the way from America. A new report from Wheels says the Camaro will be heading down under to give the Ford Mustang some much needed competition. But don't expect to see the current Camaro make the trip. Wheels says it will be the next-generation model due in 2021 that will do battle. This is due to the engineering work needed to do a right-hand drive version. We know that that the Camaro team has been watching the Australian marketplace since the Mustang went on sale to see how it would do. Since the Mustang was introduced in Austr…

Holden was relying on Opel to help supply its upcoming lineup with models such as the Astra and Insignia rebadged as the Commodore. But with the sale of Opel and Vauxhall to PSA Group, the future of Holden's lineup hangs in the balance. But GM is still committed to the Australian brand and the sale of Opel should not have any impact in the near future according to GM president Dan Ammann. “What I want to emphasise is we are 100 per cent committed to the business in Australia and New Zealand, and we have a lot of exciting things in the pipeline. It’s going to be a really good period of time for the business down there,” said Ammann. "As a lot of you know there ar…

Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) has been the home to where some of the maddest Holden V8 sedans and utes announced their swan song to the Zeta-based Commodore with the introduction of their 2017 lineup which includes one being powered by the ZR1's LS9 supercharged V8. Before we get to that, let us begin with the 'entry-level' HSV models. Dubbed the '30 Years' range (30 years of being in operation), the eight models will see noticeable improvements in terms of performance and a number of goodies from the HSV GTS. Most models will see a slight boost in power of 13 horsepower and 15 pound-feet of torque for the 6.2L Supercharged LSA V8 to produce a respectable 550 horsepo…

As Holden transitions from a local manufacturer to importer, this brings up the concern of what kind of vehicles will be available to brand. Previously, Holden had a limited choice of vehicles to choose from due to the requirement of being right-hand drive. But now, General Motors is promising a larger selection of vehicles for Holden to choose from. This could open the door for various models from the U.S. and other countries. This change comes down to GM's vehicle architectures becoming more flexible and used globally, along with a new way of thinking as GM's design boss Mike Simcoe explained, “Where we see there’s a need to have right-hand drive, yeah. We’ll …

We have known for a couple of years that Holden will end Australian production in 2017. Today, Holden announced that October 20th, 2017 will be the final day of production at their Elizabeth plant. This will end over 60 years of production at the plant. “While this confirmation isn’t a surprise for anyone and we’ve been working toward this for nearly four years, we can now confirm the actual date for our people and our suppliers. Putting our people first and foremost has always been our highest priority,” said Richard Phillips, Holden's Executive Director of Manufacturing in a statement. Before that date arrives, Holden plans on building 30,000 Commodores, Utes an…

Looking through the old sales tickers, I was unable to determine a breakout of 2010 vs 2009 G6s... I heard the only Pontiac G6 made in actual 2010 was the Final Pontiac... also there was news back then of holdover fleet sales and a reported 100 2010 G6s needed for a fleet order which were built in the tail end of 2009. After all the smoke has cleared, do we have any idea how many 2010 G6s were actually made? Why? I just bought one. Its salvage, but I'm rebuilding it... pretty easy fix... probably a flip as its too damn small for me to drive. I suspect it may have been a rental. Just curious of its curiosity value. Stephen

As we have known for a couple of years, the next Holden Commodore will not be a rear-wheel drive based model. Instead, it will be based on the next-generation Opel and Vauxhall Insignia. This model isn't due to come out till 2018, but Holden has surprised everyone by releasing key details about the next Commodore. Holden has been working with Opel and Vauxhall for the past five years on developing the Insignia for its duties as the Commodore in Australia. In terms of looks, Holden has not messed with or changed the Insignia's design. It will look the same as the European and North American models (Buick Regal). No sedan will be offered, only a five-door liftbac…

Please do not adjust your monitor. What you are seeing is a real vehicle. Today, Holden announced five new and refreshed models that would be appearing within the next year. The big news is the GMC Acadia will be sold as a Holden starting with the 2018 model year. The model will be offered exclusively with the 3.6L V6 and the choice of either front or all-wheel drive. Why is Holden waiting till 2018 to start selling the Acadia? Holden will be doing a development program to ready the vehicle for Australian roads. The company recently did this with the updated Colorado and reviewers in Australia said it was an improvement over the old model. “SUVs are the fastest-g…

As the Holden Commodore and its variants ready for their final curtain call, there is the question of what would stand as the brand's hero car. Various GM executives have said the Australian brand would retain a V8 powered vehicle, most likely a sports car. The folks at CarAdvice were able to gleam a tiny bit of information about this new V8 vehicle. When asked if the sports car would compete with the Ford Mustang, Holden's executive director of sales, Peter Keley said it wouldn't. “No [when asked if the V8 sports car will be a Mustang competitor]. We’re not going to say anything specific about the vehicle. We are going to launch a V8 sports car and it will blow y…

The clocks tick down before the end of the rear-wheel drive Holden Commodore and Australian production. But Holden has plans to end it with a bang. News Corp Australia has learned that GM has given the go-ahead on Holden using the LS9 V8 from the last-generation Corvette ZR1 for special edition model. Producing 600 horsepower, this limited edition will be the fastest Commodore ever built. The sedan will only come with a six-speed manual as an automatic wouldn't be able to handle all of the power on tap. HSV will be tasked with building this fast Commodore. The total production amount is said to be less than 250 sedans. Holden declined to comment on this report. …

With Holden transitioning the big Commodore from rear-wheel to front-wheel drive, there have been questions as to what will happen to Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) - the factory approved tuner that has created some of the widest performance vehicles in Australia - when this switch happens. Speaking with GoAuto, HSV's marketing and product planning general manager Damon Paull said they plan to continue working with Holden and the next Commodore. “We will certainly be looking to offer a Commodore-based product,” said Paull. “Holden has come out and said they are going to call it Commodore, whatever they end up importing. We'll certainly work closely with them to see…

Hi Guys, My wife has just recently bought a very used 2002 Saturn SL1 as a cheap to run commuter vehicle for her 110+ km nightly commute to work. We even bought a second identical model to use as a parts donor. The trouble is that neither one still had the Owner's Manual, and while the Canadian GM site says that it is possible to download any owners manual from 1999 onwards, when I spoke with them, they told me that a 2002 Saturn was too old for them to bother carrying a downloadable manual. The US GM site won't let me do anything because I don't have a US address. My question is does anybody have a PDF of the manual? Thanks

Back in December, we reported on the ambitious plan of Guido Dumarey, owner of the Punch International to buy General Motors' Elizabeth plant and the assets to the Commodore to build out a new range of rear and all-wheel drive vehicles in Australia. “Everything is planned. The next step is to inform all the parties with the right plan, and it happens next year. The announcement is that they will close in the end of 2017. In the first six months of next year we must work very hard to find solutions. Two thousand and sixteen is the key year. After ’16 we must not think about it, because all the programs have started to stop and it’s too late,” Dumarey told Motoring back…

Had a dark blue '02 Firebird Trans Am Firehawk come in to the shop this week, wrecked down the side. Needs a fender repair, door and quarter replaced. Kid ordered the car new from the factory and was sick about the damage. I went in to write the estimate, and a lot of the parts are discontinued from GM! I had to call around to locate USED PARTS! Holden has revealed to everyone the final Australian-Built Commodore, the VF-Series II. The new Commodore, which will go on sale this October, gets some minor changes to the exterior such as a new grille, front bumper, headlights, and taillights. The big changes come under the hood. Commodore SS and trims above it get the 6.2L LS3 V8 with 304kW of power and 570Nm of torque (about 407 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque). A six-speed manual and six-speed automatic are available on the sedan and Ute, while the Sportswagon gets the automatic only. Holden has made sure the V8 makes an excellent exhaust note thanks to a bi-modal exhaust system and a sound enhancer.…

In a couple years time, Holden will be ending production in Australia. But the performance arm is making sure it goes out with bang. Drive.com.au reports that Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) is hard at work on a special edition on a Commodore model that will have the heart of the last-generation Corvette ZR1, the LS9 V8. Currently, HSV's Clubsport GTS holds the title for most powerful muscle car with 577 horsepower. If the models does come to fruition, expect it to be named the GTS-R and have a small number of these models built. You might be wondering why HSV isn…

My name speaks volumes about my love affair with Oldsmobiles. I owned a 1985 Oldsmobile Delta 88. I bought it used in the mid-1990s. It was a beater but oh...what I wonderful time I had with it. I bought a brand new 1999 Olds Alero. I dont have it anymore. I dont miss it all that much today...but I do miss the Alero's profile and silhouette. It reminded me of my utmost favorite car of all time...a 1969 or 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Hurst Olds for a 1969 Cutlass and a 442 for a 1970 Cutlass. Here is my Alero.

The above information was taken from the Brock Dakar/ProRace Engineering web site. Link to technical information Due to the death of the project head in 2006 in another motor racing event, the car was never completed (the engine has never been installed), and it is currently up for sale.

The G6 is basically our college kids kick around car to share, which sometimes creates a problem. My husband wanted to sup it all up for them with chrome wheels, etc. I am glad he listened to me because I think our daughter hits every curb. The hubcaps are a disaster. They did luck out with a decent sound system. Now the Grand Prix, is my husbands pride and joy. It has over 200,000 on it, and he plans to take it for another 100+. I think it reminds him of his first 77 Oldsmobile painted a banana yellow with mag wheels. I have to admit, I shared in the sadness when Olds went into the history books.

Was searching Google this past weekend for some Canyon information and stumbled upon this site: http://www.slideshare.net/mobile/JonAlbert1/veh-des-portfolio-v3 In the shared slide show presentation, one of the designers of the 2004 Canyon/Colorado shared some design history of that generation of the smaller pickups. He also worked on the Hummer H3 program which included these original designs for the H3. Warning: if you're not a fan of the Aztek, you may be disturbed by the picture shared here and more on that site I'm glad they ended up with the design that was produced! This Aztek-inspired look, IMO, would not have been as admired. Check out the link a…

Holden has been in a bit of turmoil for the past few years. With declining sales, plant closures coming in a couple of years, and big changes for the Commodore, steady leadership is key. But in the past six years, Holden has gone through six chairmans. The latest one, Gerry Dorizas only lasted eight months on the job. But there will be a new person in charge. Last Friday, Holden announced the appointment of Mark Bernhard as Managing Director and Chairman of the brand. This is an important milestone as Bernhard is the first Australian to be in charge since 1990. “Mark’s knowledge of GM Holden, our region and GM’s global operations will serve him well in his new role,” sa…

We're one step closer to learning about the next-generation Holden Commodore as the automaker has begun testing the new model in Austraila. This news comes from Stefan Jacoby, General Motor's Executive Vice President Consolidated International Operations. “We are driving this car already in Lang Lang,” said Jacoby. “I love that proving ground [and] the Holden engineering team will have a part to integrate this vehicle into the Australian market. It is very obvious that the successor needs to be stronger than today’s model, and we understand that better than anybody else, and we will do everything we can, with modern technology.” The new Commodore is expected to switch …

Since the announcement came down that Holden would shutter its operations in 2017, the rumors and speculations began flying about the fate of the Commodore. Would it become a big front-wheel drive model or stick to its rear-drive roots? Was the nameplate destined to stay around? It seems we might have answer to the latter question. CarsGuide.com.au reports that Holden has been fighting with General Motors to keep the Commodore name around. Sources say Philip Brook, Holden’s sales and marketing executive has been begging Mike Devereux, formerly the head of Holden and now GM's ice president of sales and marketing for international operations to keep the Commodore name arou…

The clock may be ticking on Holden’s Australian manufacturing operations, but that doesn’t appear to have stalled interest in the brand's best-selling model. This week, the VF Commodore has reached a key milestone, with the 50,000th body rolling off the production line at Elizabeth, South Australia. The landmark moment comes just 10 months on from the VF's launch, and while the company has been mired in controversy since announcing a 2017 end for local production, Holden’s Richard Phillips believes there’s reason to be proud in the achievement. "The VF is quite simply the best quality car Holden has ever built, and to see the 50,000th one roll off the line is …

With Holden's operations in Australia coming to a close in 2017, questions have arisen of what will happen to Holden Special Vehicles. Motoring.com.au reports that HSV's future might lie with Chevrolet. Motoring.com.au had the chance to speak with Ryan Walkinshaw, Chairman of the Walkinshaw Group which runs HSV. He explained that the group is considering working their magic on Chevrolet vehicles. But he goes onto say that General Motors has the final say on this. “We think something like that (CSV) could work. It depends on what products are available. It’s going to depend on the discussions with GM going forward. There’s a lot of factors we have to take into account. B…

Holden's high-performance sedans could live after their operations are shut down in 2017. According to Drive.com.au, General Motors is currently evaluating a new program that would utilize the Alpha platform for a number high performance applications of varying sizes and shapes for different brands. One of those vehicles is likely to be a rear-drive performance version of the Commodore and next Chevrolet SS. Alpha brings a couple things to the table. One is that Alpha can be scaled up or down to fit various wheelbases, tracks, and engine configurations. Alpha also has been engineered be right-hand drive as well. “If you’re a performance enthusiast then rear-wheel-drive …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com December 13, 2013 With the announcement of Holden closing up production and R&D by 2017, the battle to keep the Holden brand alive has only begun. News.com.au reports that General Motors is considering dropping Holden and transitioning to Chevrolet. The reasons for this begin with the Holden brand not having any distinction once the brand begins importing vehicles in 2017. There is also an image problem as the brand could be seen as damaged with the shutdown of its factories. "There will now be the biggest fight ever to save the Holden brand from being shelved. Every time there is a new boss of Holden or a new head …

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com April 9, 2013 Holden is cutting 500 jobs due to the strengthening Australian dollar, which has caused country's labor rates to be one of the highest in the world. “I can’t control what central banks do. The value of the Australian dollar, and importantly the currency plays being made by other countries, mean that we are not competing on a level playing field,” said Holden managing director, Mike Devereux yesterday. The Australian dollar has surged 83% when compared to the Japenese Yen since 2008. This has prompted an increase in Japenese imports into Australia. This is further compounded by the rise in costs of plan…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com October 30, 2013 2016 could mark the end of era. After 65 years serving the Australian marketplace, the Holden Ute could say good-bye. News.com.au has learned that Holden could end production of the Ute after the current Commodore is replaced in 2016. The Ute has been a staple of Australian automotive marketplace since the first model was introduced back in 1951. But in the past few years, sales have precipitously dropped. This is due to an influx of midsize trucks being built and imported from Thailand. Thailand has much lower labor costs when compared to Australian labor costs. Also, Australia has a free-trade agreemen…

I don't know if it's just me but my Pontiac Solstice has been pretty problematic over the years. I've had leaks from just about everywhere, the passenger airbag sensor just stopped working and I just had a bunch of repairs done to the transmission. This car costs a fair bit to keep running but I really do like the way it looks and handles. Anyone else have problems like this?

Could The Next Gen Holden Commodore Be The Last To Be Born In Australia? William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com November 3, 2011 The next generation Holden Commodore could be the last one worked on in Australia. A report in The Australian Financial Review quotes a union official from The Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists and Managers Australia saying: "GM Holden has canvassed not continuing to work on new model Commodores beyond [2014]." This report has caused Holden to go on massive damage control. Holden spokeswoman Emily Perry told Drive that company "has not taken any decisions yet" regarding the future design, …

*In case anyone cares 4 years, 5 months, and 22 days since Saturday, June 28, 2008, my wife's 2008 Pontiac G6 V6 Sedan has now turned 75,000 miles. We found it at the dealer on Thursday, June 26, 2008 with 2 miles on the odometer and then 4 miles at delivery (test drive). Today as I dropped my wife off at her buidling, the car turned 75,002 miles. It has been a very good car in that time period. Basic maintenace and car washes have been the mantra, with only a couple of issues to deal with. Warranty work included tightening the right rear door hinge screws and replacing a small piece of A-pillar trim that became loose - both two years after taking delivery, and …
