source: http://motoring.iafrica.com/carsinaction/shootout/477628.htm Sven meets the Huns By: Mario Lupini; Images: Ciaran Nunan Almost everyone knows that the horse-drawn carriage was the progenitor of the convertible automobile. In fact all cars at the turn of the 20th century were convertibles, but the death-knell of the convertible was dealt by the Dodge Brothers Victory 6 with its revolutionary all-steel monocoque body affixed to a normal ladder type chassis. The convertible has since become the playground for designers who have taken the shape to ever-exciting heights. In fact the convertible became the powder-puff segment of the car market. …

By Jamie LaReau Automotive News / October 28, 2005 DETROIT-- General Motors is considering a crossover vehicle for its Saab brand. GM would base the vehicle on a Cadillac concept and build it on a new, mid-sized crossover architecture. GM will not say when it plans to unveil its concept model of a Cadillac crossover. But the company is thinking of designing a "highly differentiated" version of the Cadillac vehicle for Saab, says Robert Lutz, GM's vice chairman of global product development. The company is examining a business case for the Saab crossover, Lutz said at a press event here this week, by weighing GM's investment against the vehicl…

Just wondering, now since the GM-Subaru relation's dissolved, will the 9-2x be gone as well? Will the rumoured 9-2 on Delta make a return?

Naturally Swedened By Erin Riches Date posted: 10-17-2005 Inside this dimly lit Stockholm pub the stress level is zero. No one's rushed in here. People spend hours nursing draft beer and warm plates of meat. Two hours, two lagers and a dozen meatballs later, we realize the best part about the 2006 Saab 9-5, which we drove yesterday on the two-lane roads north of this historic city. It's still a Saab. Svante Kinell, brand manager for the 9-5, says there are 1,367 changes on the 2006 model, but these changes haven't squashed that intangible something that makes it a Saab. They've just made it a better Saab. Over a Thousand Changes Although numerous, t…

It's $27,620 for a 2.0T and $33,620 for a 2.8T Aero, which is ~$2000 less than a comparable A4 Avant and 325xit.

I'm leasing a Saab 9-3 until March '06. Does anyone know if Saab or GM usually offers an early turn-in a few months prior to the lease expiration date?

From an article on itv-motoring.com Saab's New Diesel by David Morgan (26 Sep 05) Saab could be the first European manufacturer to hit the market with a "boxer" turbodiesel engine. The alliance between Saab and Subaru which created the Impreza-based Saab 9-2X for the US market is about to signal the return of the 96 badge in Europe - and it looks set to be their first 4x4 SUV with a horizontally-opposed diesel power plant. By late 2007 British Saab drivers will be able to order the Swedish car maker's first crossover 4x4 - the Saab 9-6X. The all-wheel drive five-door will be closely related to the Subaru B9 Tribeca (pictured) which is built in India…

First customer deliveries are being rolled out in Europe from September 5 and Saab dealers around the world have already placed advance orders for more than 8,500 cars, a record for the launch phase of a new Saab model. To meet such unprecedented demand, overtime is being introduced at the Saab assembly plant in Trollhättan, Sweden, and this year's production target has been increased by more than 30 per cent, to 20,000 cars. "We are delighted to have a bulging order book for this new product and our main challenge right now is to meet the high level of customer demand at our dealerships," says Jan-Åke Jonsson, Saab Automobile's managing director. &quo…

Saab is on the verge of a major new product offensive - but the company's manufacturing base might be moved from Sweden, General Motors chief Rick Wagoner says. 'I've seen Saab's forthcoming product portfolio and I've never been more optimistic about the future of the company than I am today,' he told What Car? today. 'Our plan is to deliver a wider range of models with shorter life cycles compared with the Saab of old, which relied on a few models in production for a long time. 'Now we just have to make a business out of it. The notion of 500 engineers working away somewhere in Sweden is very romantic, but it's not the way the…

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05244/563326.stm Saab wagon's interior uninviting Thursday, September 01, 2005 By Don Hammonds, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Saving money on production costs is clearly a top priority with automakers, which means the days when each make would have its own engine, frame, body and styling are gone, replaced with one platform and set of components to make a wide variety of models. Saab Saab's 9-2X retains the carmaker's identity with its front end, side profile and sharp alloy wheels. That's OK, I guess, as long as each product still has a separate identity. But it can be a problem when identities don'…

...going to finally get rid of all that cheap-ass rubber molding on the sides of their cars and switch to body-colored? Honestly, it makes the 9-7X more appealing because of its lack of rubber. Check out the pic on SAAB's main page - it looks sort of hot. Seriously, guys. Its not an '87 Ciera...
