Tesla cuts Tesla 3 parts delivery 40% starting in December 2017. According to a story that has broke on another site, it would appear that instead of taking delivery of enough parts per week to build 5,000 Tesla 3 cars per week in December, Tesla has cut that rate by 40% which indicates 3,000 per week by the end of Dec. This also has a ripple affect as it pushes out their delivery of reaching 10,000 Tesla 3 cars per week in the early part of 2018. They story goes on to say that Tesla will not start taking delivery of parts in 10,000 lot shipments till May or June at the earliest. This would indicate that If they are only building about 3,000 a week in the first half …

400 fired for Performance at Tesla or so they say. Seems Tesla fired approximately 400 employees from lowly sales associates to upper level executives all for performance. Yet with the bottleneck of production holding back the ability to actually produce and ship Tesla 3, it seems Tesla is more about laying off costs to stem the flow of cash till they can get the Tesla 3 shipping. Seems to me they will miss their production targets this year big time. Tesla Story on web

GM Exec calls Musk full of Crap! Seems Musk stating his auto's are level 5 capable of self driving is now being called full of crap by GM Exec that says without Lidar, there is no way Tesla system can be Level 5 full autonomous driving. It cannot see in the black of Night nor the difference of a snow covered road. Clearly many use cases that show Tesla to not be a Level 5 autonomous driving auto. Interesting read at Autoblog. https://www.autoblog.com/2017/10/16/gm-exec-calls-elon-musk-full-of-crap-autonomy-claims/

If you happened to be perusing the Monterey, CA Craigslist this morning, you might have come across an interesting ad. Someone had posted an ad for a Tesla Model 3. The vehicle allegedly has about 2,000 miles on the odometer. Like many of Model 3s currently rolling off the production line, this is the long-range variant with a 310-mile range. Other features include a panoramic glass roof, upgraded sound system, and "Aero" wheels. The price? $150,000. Our favorite part of the ad is the last line; "THIS IS REAL." Red flag anyone? The ad has been taken down since various outlets started reporting on it. There is an interesting reason as to why. If you look at …

Tesla delivers only 220 during the Quarter due to Bottlenecks Tesla says it is on track to deliver 100,000 S & X models by the end of the year and have Model 3 production up to 5000 units per month. Yet with that, they have also stated that due to bottlenecks on the assembly line, they are behind in building and delivering Tesla 3 to the public. I found the comment by another reader on the story of their quarterly report to be very spot on. To quote JSH who posted the following: "It seems that skipping basic steps in the tooling and manufacturing development process didn't pan out. It turns out that automotive manufacturers do know a bit more about ma…

As Model 3s begin to arrive at Tesla dealerships, we are beginning to get some answers to some of the key questions we have. Chief among those questions deal with how the Model 3's touchscreen works. Thanks to some videos that have made their way onto the internet, we have some answers and major concerns. We know that the screen would control many functions of the vehicle, but didn't know the extent. Thanks to the video we now know that most functions are controlled through the screen. Want to change the fan speed? You need to use the touchscreen. Open the trunk? Need to use the touchscreen. If it begins raining and you need to turn on the wipers, you need to use the…

After September 24th, Tesla will end production of the rear-wheel drive Model S 75. The model is the cheapest way to get into the Model S with a base price of $69,500. After the 24th, the Model S 75D with its dual motor AWD setup will become the entry-level model with a base price $74,500. This will leave the Model 3 as the only Tesla model that is available with RWD. This news was first broke by Electrek back in July, although no official end date was given. We can see a couple of reasons for Tesla dropping the RWD Model S 75. One is to help streamline production line and hopefully get more vehicles out. It also gives further differentiation between the Model 3…

Tesla Motor Club Pictures of Model 3 Long Range Seems that the Tesla Model 3 Long range car is to have a 310 mile range with a 126 MPGe rating according the picture above. This is 131 MPGe city and 120 MPGe highway. This is in comparison to the Chevrolet BOLT with it's 238 mile battery pack, 119 MPGe rating. Course this still does not beat the Hyundai Ioniq which is the leader with a 136 MPGe rating based on the 150 MPGe City and 112 MPGe highway for it's 124 miles battery pack. Yet this does show the direction we are going as we see more EV's enter the market place. I believe in a year from now, having an EV with a mid 250 mile range battery pack or a lon…

When Tesla finally revealed the Model 3 a couple weeks, we learned about a number of items such as max range (220 or 310 if you opt for the larger battery), how fast they hit 60 mph, and what will come standard. What wasn't talked about was how big the battery was and power figures. Thanks to some EPA documents, we have some idea on both. InsideEVs found some preliminary documents dealing with the long-range Model 3 and figured out that has an 80.5-kilowatt-hour battery pack - the document says it is a 230 Ah battery pack with 350 V nominal voltage. We should note that CEO Elon Musk has said previously that the Model 3 could not take anything larger than a 75-kWh bat…

There really hasn't been much information about the Tesla Model 3 since CEO Elon Musk revealed the concept last March. Speculation and spy pictures revealing certain details were all we had. But last night at the automaker's Fremont, California production facility, Tesla finally spilled the beans on the Model 3 along with delivering the first 30 models. The Model 3 will begin at $35,000 and delivers a total range of 220 miles. Tesla doesn't list any power specs for the electric motor, but does mention it will hit 60 mph in 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph. Six exterior colors will be available - aside from black, the other color choices add $1,000 to the bottom…

Tesla CEO Elon Musk made a surprise announcement earlier this year with the upcoming Model Y crossover using a new platform and not the one used for the Model 3. Musk has changed his tune, however. “Upon the council of my executive team . . . who reeled me back from the cliffs of insanity—much appreciated—the Model Y will in fact be using substantial carryover from Model 3 in order to bring it to market faster,” said Musk during the second quarter earnings call yesterday. How much faster? Previously, Musk said the Model Y (if that is the final name) could arrive by 2019. But during this call, Musk did not give a date - possibly a wise idea. Source: Autoblog…

Hundred of thousands of people plopped down $1,000 to reserve a Tesla Model 3 last year. At the time, buyers were told not to expect their Model 3 until the end of 2018. Since then, buyers haven't been told a thing. When will their vehicle arrive? What options will be available? What will be the final price? None of these questions have been answers and some now are looking for answers. Bloomberg spoke with some people that dropped $1,000 deposit to get on the Model 3 reservation list. All of the people in the story want more information and hope they get some answers this Friday as Tesla will be holding an event to hand over the Model 3s to the first 30 customers. …

Tesla claimed they had the safest auto's in the world and this was backed up by their 2013 IIHS testing of the Model S that received all good marks. Tesla tweeted that the Model 3 will go on sale Friday July 7th. While it is claimed to do 0-60 about a half second quicker than it's primary price competition --the Chevy Bolt--, disappointingly it's range is a mere 133 miles vs. the Bolt's 238. All along the range expectation was said to be over 200, many stating they thought it would be over 250. Combined with the lack of options & upgrades on initial launch, it remains to be seen what any rate of order cancellation may occur. Looking forward to first 'journalist' test impressions- no doubt Tesla will be receive massive publicity & coverage when the 3's start becoming available, as per usual. Here's to hop…

If you are one of the lucky people to order their Tesla Model 3 first, you'll be somewhat disappointed in the number of options available. At Tesla's annual shareholder meeting, CEO Elon Musk said buyers of the first Model 3s will only have two configuration options; colors and wheels. This is an effort to help ramp production of the Model 3 quickly. "You just need to decide what color you want and what size wheels, at least for the initial production," said Musk. Musk went on to say there would be more options for the Model 3, but didn't give a timeframe as to when they would arrive. Also, the Model 3 would only be rear-wheel drive for the time being. An a…

http://money.cnn.com/2017/06/06/technology/business/tesla-model-3-backlog/index.html Musk stated today Model 3 delivery isn't to be expected before "the end of 2018". There goes the production schedules and annual goals stated up until now. Not at all a shock if one has been paying attention to this company's history. What remains to be seen is the degree of people who decide 'enough is enough' and pull their deposits- THREE YEARS is a long damn time to wait for a car to be built.

Thanks to a poster on the Model 3 Owners Club forum, we have some new and juicy information concerning the Model 3. The images posted come from an infographic being handed out to Tesla employees as "talking points" to try and sway people away from Model 3. Some information listed on the infographic is already known such as a 215+ mile range and having to pay to use Tesla's Superchargers. There is also new information such as a 0-60 mph time of 5.6 seconds (though it is unclear what is the powertrain layout is being quoted), and a total of 14 cubic feet between the front and rear ca…

Tesla held their first quarter earnings call yesterday. The company reported revenue in the quarter that more than doubled and that they are on track on getting the Model 3 in production in July. But this was overshadowed by some comments made by CEO Elon Musk. "We have seen some impact of Model S orders as a function of people being confused" that Model 3 is the upgrade to Model S, Musk said on a conference call. Yes, it seems some of Tesla's prospective buyers believe the new Model 3 - the upcoming entry-level model - is the replacement for the Model S. This misconception has likely risen as Tesla has been promoting this vehicle since last July. Tesla's worry …

In their recent shareholder update for 2017, Tesla reported strong Q1 revenues of $2.7 billion dollars, more than doubling performance of the same quarter last year and an improvement of $411m over the final quarter of 2016. However, losses also grew from $282m last year to $330m in 2017, or a per-share loss of $2.04. Tesla reports that most of the loss comes from capital expenditures for the Model-3 development, Gigafactory development, and acquisition related activity surrounding SolarCity. Subtracting SolarCity revenues, Automotive related revenue is reported at $2.289 billion, up 123% year over year. Vehicle margins excluding ZEV credits are at 27.8%. …

The Model 3 is Tesla's most anticipated vehicle and biggest gamble the company has undertaken. But this gamble has become more risky thanks to a decision concerning the production line. Reuters reports that Tesla is skipping a step most automakers undertake when producing a new vehicle. Prototype tools are bought in on the production line to help determine issues in terms of fit and finish. Once these issues are worked out, the prototype tools are scrapped and automakers place orders for permanent and expensive tools. But Musk told investors last month, Tesla was jumping into the permanent and expensive part first so they can meet their self-imposed volume production…

Tesla will be dropping the Model S 60 and 60 D next month. According to Electrek, Tesla sent out emails to potential buyers last week letting them know that they have until April 16th to place an order for the 60. The 60-kWh version of the Model S was an odd model since it was equipped with a 75kWh battery pack that was limited via software to act like a smaller battery. Tesla offered the ability to unlock the full capacity of the battery for only $9.500. Tesla confirmed this and explained the reason they are dropping the 60 is most buyers tend to go for the battery upgrade and they want to streamline the ordering process. Source: Electrek View full …

" We all understand acceleration. It’s the rate of change of velocity. This 4,891-pound Tesla Model S P100D does it best, reaching 30, 40, 50, and 60 mph from a standstill more quickly than any other production vehicle we’ve ever tested, full stop. In our testing, no production car has ever cracked 2.3 seconds from 0 to 60 mph. But Tesla has, in 2.275507139 seconds. The Tesla does not hold the advantage forever, though, because higher speeds give the advantage to horsepower over instant torque. The Ferrari LaFerrari hits 70 mph a tenth of a second quicker; the Porsche 918 and McLaren P1 pull ahead at 80 mph, and these hypercars all continue to pull away at higher spe…

The investigation centers around "undercarriage strikes" where metal road debris run over by the car pierced the battery compartment and caused a catastrophic runaway reaction resulting in the total loss of the vehicle. In the NHTSA announcement, they point out that in all cases, the vehicle provided ample audio and visual warnings to the driver well befor…

Tesla announced their second quarter results yesterday and the news wasn't great. The electric automaker posted a net loss of $293 million for the quarter. It also looks like Tesla might fall short of delivering 80,000 vehicles goal for this year. The quarter saw Tesla move 14,402 vehicles (9,764 Model S and 4,638 Model Xs). Add in the first quarter deliveries of 11,507 vehicles, and Tesla is very short of meeting this goal. "We are clearly disappointed with our delivery numbers," said Tesla CFO Jason Wheeler. It should be noted that 'almost half' of Q2's deliveries took place within the last four weeks of the quarter. "We were in production hell for the firs…

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued their preliminary report on the fatal crash involving a Tesla Model S in Autopilot mode and a semi-truck back in May. According to data that was downloaded from the Model S, the vehicle was traveling above the speed limit on the road (74 mph in 65) and that Autopilot was engaged. The speed helps explain how the Model S traveled around 347 feet after making the impact with the trailer - traveling 297 feet before hitting a utility pole, and then going another 50 feet after breaking it. The report doesn't have any analysis of the accident or a possible cause. NTSB says their investigators are still downloadin…

Tesla's CEO Elon Musk teased last week of a new master plan that would be appearing early this week. But like the launch of one of their new vehicles, there was a bit of delay. Last night, the plan was unveiled. If you were hoping for some exciting announcements, then you'll be disappointed with this plan. One of the big parts of 'Master Plan, Part Deux' is to "the major forms of terrestrial transport." What this means is the company is working on developing a compact SUV and a and a "new kind of pickup truck." Musk also says early development work has begun on a Telsa-Semi (Musk's name, not ours) and methods of urban transportation. Musk goes on to talk about dev…

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an investigation into a fatal crash dealing with Tesla's Autopilot system. In a statement given to Reuters, NHTSA said the driver of a 2015 Tesla Model S was killed while the vehicle was in the Autopilot mode. The crash took place on May 7th in Williston, Florida when a tractor-trailer was making a left turn across a divided highway. Tesla in a lengthy blog post said: "neither Autopilot nor the driver noticed the white side of the tractor trailer against a brightly lit sky, so the brake was not applied." The Model S drove underneath the trailer with the bottom making contact with the windshie…

Despite posting $1.1 billion in revenues for the first quarter ($1.6 billion under non generally accepted accounting principles - GAAP), Tesla reported a net loss of $282 million for the quarter. Compared to the last quarter, Tesla made less in revenue, but the loss was slightly less. Tesla credits this to a careful watching of its spending. Tesla notes that its cash on hand - $1.4 billion - "does not include any meaningful cash flow from Model 3 reservations," but a fair chunk of that reservation money was used to repay back a $430 million credit line. This isn't the big news as it lines up with what analysts were expecting. It was Tesla's announcement of moving its …

One of the key benefits of owning a Telsa is having access to the various Supercharger stations around U.S. for free. But if you're one of the 300,000-plus buyers for the Model 3, you'll have to pay to have your vehicle charged at the station. “Free Supercharging fundamentally has a cost,” said Telsa CEO Elon Musk at the company's annual shareholders meeting yesterday. "The obvious thing to do is decouple that from the cost of the Model 3. So it will still be very cheap, and far cheaper than gasoline, to drive long-distance with the Model 3, but it will not be free long distance for life unless you purchase that package.” That package in question would give Mo…

Recently if you wanted the cheapest version of the Tesla Model S, you had to get the Model S 70 which started at $71,500. But today, Tesla has announced a new low-cost version of the Model S. The new Model S 60 starts at $66,000 (before federal and state incentives) and offers a maximum range of 210 miles. If you're wondering why this sounds somewhat familiar, that is because Tesla offered the Model S 60 up until last year when the 70 took its place. Aside from the lower price, the 60 can be equipped with all-wheel drive (the 60D which starts at $71,000). Interestingly, the Model S 60 doesn't have a 60 kWh battery pack. Instead, it is a 75 kWh battery pack that a…

The latest way Tesla has been trying to get around states that ban direct sales (Michigan for example) is to apply for a dealer license. But this plan appears to not be working. Automotive News reports that North Carolina's Division of Motor Vehicles has rejected Telsa's application to attain a second dealership license and said the automaker must go through a third-party dealership group. The ruling states that Tesla didn't meet the specific requirements to become exempt from a state law prohibiting manufacturers from owning dealers. Tesla already has one store in North Carolina in Releigh and was hoping open a new store at their service center in Matthews (subur…

Tesla has been fighting in various states to allow for direct sales of their vehicles. The most contentious being the state of Michigan which enacted a law in October 2014 banning automakers from selling vehicles directly to consumers. Last year, the State of Michigan signed a bill that banned an automaker from doing direct sales. This meant an automaker like Tesla couldn't sell any of their vehicles in the state. One thing you cannot call Elon Musk is a shrinking violet. The CEO of Tesla has taken to Twitter once again to defend the company. This time it deals with the results of Consumer Reports' annual reliability survey where the Model S, a vehicle which had earned the coveted Recommended rating, lost it this year due to a number of problems reported by owners. After a long journey, Tesla has finally revealed the production version of the Model X crossover. Introduced at an event last night at the company's headquarters, CEO Elon Musk made his case as to why you want it. Musk began with safety as he states that the Model X is the first SUV that gets five stars in every crash test category. There is also a massive HEPA filter that is claimed to remove allergens, soot/smog, bacteria, and viruses down to just 0.01 microns. There is even a "Bioweapon Defense Mode" to protect occupant…

Tesla is able to do this via a new advanced smart fuse for the battery that allows an increase in the maximum amp throughout from 1,300 to 1,500 amps. This option will cost $10,000 for a new Model S P85D. But if you are the current owner of a P85D, you can get the Ludicrous package for $5,000 plus labor for the next six months. Tesla is apparently full of surprises. This morning, the Californian electric automaker announced the Model S 70D which will replace the 60 as the base model. The 70D packs a larger 70-kWh battery pack which increases range from 208 miles to 240. The D in the 70D means this is packing Tesla's dual-motor all-wheel-drive system which provides a total output of 514 horsepower. This increase in power drops 0-60 from 5.9 to 5.2 seconds. Other changes on the 70D include Tesla’s Supercharging DC fast-charger installed and the and the Autopilot semi-autonomous system. As for price, the Model S 70D will start off at $75,000, about $4,000 more than the Model S 60. Source: Tesl…

I was reading that the Tesla can go a little over 300 miles on a single charge. I looked at the Tesla map for charging stations in the DFW area in Texas and there are not as many as I would like to see. I did see that you can purchase a portable charger. I wanted to know if people have experience using that.

I have been following the Tesla X model for a while. I love the way the doors open. And, I love the fact that I would not have to go to the gas station. I want to know what has been the experience of others when it comes to owning the TESLA X

G. David Felt Alternative Fuels & Propulsion writer www.CheersandGears.com Tesla Sales up 55% for Q1 Time Frame. Record Tesla Sales reports on ABC. Tesla sold 10,030 autos for Q1 and is reported as expecting to have over all sales of 55,000 auto's this year up from 31,000 last year. Tesla is focused to bring costs down via lower battery pack cost and the new SUV Model X to be released in 2016. This will come through reduced costs with their own battery factory and using main stream parts that can reduce costs. Course it is interesting to hear about the states that have passed laws to ban like West Virginia that says auto manufactures cannot sell direct…

http://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-just-said-sales-are-tanking-in-china--stock-is-down-5-2015-1 They're blaming the low number of chargers apparently. I think it might be more due to the Chinese people's more conservative nature. They know petrol cars work just fine and they stick to them.

Tesla's stock price is going through the floor. It has lost a significant percentage of its value since September. I suppose it's due to the lower price of oil, which makes switching to electric vehicles less attractive. Would you invest in Tesla stock at the moment? I wouldn't. I think they're seriously over valued due to all the Sillicon Valley fanbois.

The latest state to ban direct sales of vehicles is Michigan. Today, Governor Rick Synder signed a bill into law that would ban such automakers as Tesla from directly selling vehicles to consumers. This bill also allows dealers to make the decision whether or not to charge the transaction fee. "This bill does not, as some have claimed, prevent auto manufacturers from selling automobiles directly to consumers at realign in Michigan. That is because this is already prohibited under Michigan law. The current law states that a manufacturer shall not "ell new motor vehicle directly to a retail customer other than through its franchised dealers…" the Governor wrote in a letter…

It is interesting that Tesla is now in the midst of trying to get the states and tax payers to pay or heavily subsidies the creation of a plant that would make the batteries in the US from North America Sources raw materials. Full story on how California is working to try and keep Tesla and Musk in the state while Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and even Texas are all considered sites for the battery plant and the estimated 6500 jobs it would create as the push is on to build 500,000 batteries and cars within 3 years or about 2017 or 2018 depending on when the ground breaks.
