Frail-Rated: Over 800K Jeep Liberties Recalled WASHINGTON - Chrysler Group is recalling more than 800,000 Jeep Liberty sport utility vehicles because of the potential loss of steering control, the automaker said Tuesday. DaimlerChrysler AG spokesman Max Gates said the front suspension lower ball joint could experience excessive wear and looseness, leading the ball joint to separate. The recall affects 832,000 Liberty SUVs from the 2002-2006 model years. Read "Jeep recalls 2002-2006 Liberty SUV" @ Yahoo

Just got back from a Florida Vacation & had to write down some observations on my rental. This 2006 had 14,5xx miles on it before I assumed it for 9 days. The exterior of the car looks really dated. The "cab-forward" thing just doesn't work well on a convertable - the proportions of the vehicle don't look right.. but styling is a personal taste for most everyone, so I'll leave exterior impressions alone. The interior: Positives: Comfortable room for the kids in the back. Seats were comfortable & supportive. Everything seemed fairly well layed out. The top folds up & down very easily -- and quickly. Negatives: Little or no attention seems to have …

Sorry no pics at this time, but it was cool looking. It had bulged out fenders front and rear. The intercooler for the turbo was in plain site, the front bumper looked to be a little cobbled on to fit around the intercooler. It had quite a large tailpipe on it, like something you would see on a local rice burner that makes a lot of noise but goes no where fast. The guy in the car was hauling ass so I had to haul ass too, to keep up with him. He actually got on it a lot to get away from me because he spotted me eyeing it, too much for him I guess! Nice exhaust sound though, very deep sounding. The wheels did not look production, I would say they were anywhere from 17-18" w…

Verdict on Challenger to be Decided by Fall The Chrysler group may decide whether to make the Challenger muscle car as early as the end of the third quarter, CEO Tom LaSorda says. LaSorda on Friday said Chrysler has been flooded with positive responses to the Challenger concept, shown at the Detroit auto show in January. If Dodge has any sense, they'll build it. Unless of course, they want the new Camaro to go unchallenged (no pun intended). Read "Chrysler to decide whether to build Challenger by fall" @ Autoweek

Chrysler deals lose big buzz Fewer taking advantage of automaker's employee discounts Josee Valcourt / The Detroit News Link to original article @ DetNews.com The revival of employee discounts for all by DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group isn't shaping up to be quite the megahit it was last year, when Chrysler, Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. sparked a frenzy of summer car and truck sales by offering employee prices to everybody. Chrysler dealers say it's too soon to call the campaign a hit or a miss, but note that consumer response has been mixed compared with last summer, when buyers flooded showrooms to take advantage of what appeared to be a once-in-a-li…

Edmunds Drives the Compass It should be noted as a general rule, I try to find the best picture of a car to use when I post a news entry. This was quite a task with the Compass because it is in my opinion, the worst-looking SUV since the Aztek (yes, it has dethroned the X3). This is about the only image where the thing doesn't look completely pug-fugly. I could wax lyrical about the Compass' looks all day but of course, you clicked this thread to read Edmunds' take on it, not mine. So without further rambling, here you go: Read "First Drive: 2007 Jeep Compass" @ Edmunds Damn, what an ugly car...

Another Recall for the Grand Cherokee Chrysler is recalling 131,000 2000-2002 Jeep Grand Cherokees because of a defective engine fan. The blades on the cooling fan may fly off and injure anyone near. This is the second Grand Cherokee recall this week. On Monday, a recall for 111,600 2003-2004 GC's was issued because the front seats may catch fire. Couple that with the call for an investigation into Grand Cherokees for sudden acceleration issues and it seems like this is a pretty bad week for Jeep and their Grand Cherokee buyers. I doubt this concerns too many here, and not really even myself, but something I thought of, and I need to see what others think/feel/believe/know. The first and second generation JA (Clouds) cars featured suspensions that were of a Front high-arm with anti-sway bar, and Rear low-arm multilink with sway bar, or as Chrysler also calls it, "Modified Double-Wishbone Suspension". Not only unique in the midsize segment which features mostly a MacPherson strut/Multilink setup, I've read that this sort of suspension also costs a little more to produce. However, with the next generation of the Clouds nearly upon us, I have to wonder. This platform was codeveloped with Mit…

Challenger Production Not Definite Yet It should be noted Edmunds stole my title idea. Bastards. Anyway, Chevy's not the only one who's holding off on a firm decision on making a popular concept a production reality. DCX has stated that contrary to rumors of the opposite, Dodge has not taken a stand on reviving the Challenger. They say they are still evaluating the business case and the car has not received the official green light. Put your tongues back in your mouths for now, Mopar guys. Does anyone around here know what the lug design (aside from 5-lug, I know that) and measurements of the Mk 1 Clouds is compared with that of the Mk 2 LH's and Mk 3 minivans? Supposing I get the money and (want to spend it on such a thing) decide an upgrade to the wheels/tires of my Breeze, I was wondering if Chrysler's "Genesis II" aluminum wheels would fit the Breeze. These wheels were used on some SE Intrepids, and Sport, LE, ES, ES AWD (1999-2000 ES) minivans. I especially like their appearance, and they are 16" in diameter, so they aren't anything outrageously big. What they look like: And look slightly similar to:

The automaker announced on Wednesday it would take the somewhat unusual step of adding a third shift to its Belvidere, Illinois, assembly plant, adding approximately 1,000 new jobs starting in July. Dodge sold about 11,000 Calibers in April, and the company expects a similar strong showing for the Compass, which goes on sale this summer, followed by the Patriot …

from a report on Edmunds Although the Hemi-powered Charger sedan and Magnum wagon attract most of the attention at Dodge dealers right now, the 2008 Dodge Avenger should get its fair share of looks when it goes on sale early next year. Smaller than the Charger sedan, the Avenger will replace the outdated Stratus in the Dodge lineup. It won't have Hemi power, but judging by our most recent spy photos the Avenger will at least look like the Charger. Up front it uses upturned headlights to frame a crosshair grille while the deep front air dam gets larger air intakes and foglights. Judging by the strategically placed camouflage on the prototype, the Avenger will also shar…

U.S. sales of the Chrysler 300 surpassed the 300,000 mark in April 2006, making it the quickest Chrysler brand vehicle to reach the milestone in 25 months. Dodge engineers have begun testing their four-door spin-off of the next Chrysler Sebring. Whether it will be called Stratus or Avenger is a subject of speculation, but there is no doubt that it takes its design inspiration from the Dodge Charger. Although the resemblance to its Sebring platform-mate is clear, the Dodge gets a distinct front fascia, a unique C-pillar design and - judging from the camouflage on the rear fender and door - a Charger-style rear fender arch. The prototype's taillights are also finished almost identically to those on the Charger. When viewed in profile, the new Dodge has a more formal rear window slope compared to the Sebring, which features a …

Seven months after launch, Jeep spending heavily on Commander incentives By MARY CONNELLY | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 03/27/06, 8:29 am et DETROIT -- Seven months after the launch of the Commander SUV, Jeep is spending heavily to subsidize sales. nice looking on the outside, nicely packaged as far as height, etc. could not get inside, but the plastics looked awfully cheap. The dash is boxy and plain, but everything seems laid ok pretty good. Leg room looked spacious and the height of the seats seemed to be appealing. The gray color scheme was a bit dreadful. Cabin is at least airy. cargo area looks small. It doesn't appear as though you can get items with much height or width back there. forget what it was priced at but it seemed decent. As you may have already have heard VW will be getting minivans from Chrysler or DCX as some may say. Well, I have heard a rumor that VW will try to increase its revenue in NA by outsourcing its platform to Chrysler Group. This is very interesting news if true. Remember that the Ford 500 is based on the Volvo S80 and the Ford Fusion is based off the Volvo S60. Also, remember that the Saab 9-3 & Opel is the basis from which the Epsilon came from. So, if the Jetta & Passat platforms are leased out to DCX for Chrysler Group. The Jetta may form the basis for the next gen Stratus/Sebring after the Galant based one is replaced. "That is pretty hot," Klegon said at the auto show here. "I like the Gladiator. I think it is real cool. That (concept) was built on a product base, it has a platform, and that has a much better chance of seeing the light of day than something tha…

TCC: Spy Shots: 2007 Chrysler Sebring Man, Chrysler is really bad at keeping this hidden. I think this is the fourth set of spy shots on this car. There's a great, clear picture of what the interior looks like. It's kind of a mix of art-deco and Rubbermaid.

The Daily Auto Insider Friday, February 10, 2006 February 2006 DaimlerChrysler is "scanning the globe" for a joint-venture partner to develop and build a subcompact car for its Chrysler unit to sell in North America, The Associated Press reported, citing company spokesman Jason Vines. The company is in talks with several automakers because it cannot profitably build a subcompact, or B-segment car, without another automaker as a partner, Vines said. "We're hoping to get a B-car someday, but we will not build it on our own," Vines said. Vines confirmed a report saying Chrysler has been in talks with Hyundai and Volkswagen about a subcompact car joint development pr…

Chrysler Hopes to Consolidate Dealerships Voluntary program targets Toyota's per-store sales By MARY CONNELLY | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 02/16/06, 10:06 am et In a bid to boost dealership profits and sales, the Chrysler group wants more metropolitan stores selling the company's three brands under one roof. "One thing that is very important to us is if our dealers are profitable, and a key to profitability is throughput," says Mike Manley, Chrysler group vice president of dealer operations. Throughput is the number of new vehicles a store sells annually. Combining Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge in a single metropolitan store increases sales volume beyond…

2007 Dodge Caliber Trading perk for class. by Marty Padgett (2006-02-13) The Caliber five-door hatchback succeeds the four-door and two-door Neons in the Dodge lineup. But just so we're clear on this upfront, it's no Neon replacement. With its tougher, vaguely militaristic connotations right up front in the title, the Caliber drops the perky Neon overtones for a classier, more substantial, and far more upscale feel. The problem is, it's also more expensive than the Neon, in an age where sub-Neon cars are winning converts. Sans Neon rebates, you pay the price for the cargo-loving body style, for the standard curtain airbags and superior back-seat room. Dodge cro…

A Dodge Polo? Only in America VW and Chrysler talk about partnership for small car Jason Stein Harald Hamprecht Automotive News / January 23, 2006 - 6:00 am Chrysler’s US muscle brand Dodge could get a new entry-level car for North America – based on the Volkswagen Polo. Chrysler, the North American division of DaimlerChrysler, wants a small-segment car in the US to better react to the trend toward small, fuel-efficient vehicles there. The two companies finalized a deal at the Detroit auto show earlier this month for Chrysler group to build a US-market minivan for VW in 2008. Chrysler executives confirmed at the show that the two companies are talking about furthe…

Chrysler Group offers dealers cash to take cars TERRY KOSDROSKY / Dow Jones Newswires ORLANDO, Fla. - The Chrysler Group is offering dealers $1,000 for every car they sell over the next two months if the dealer doesn't cut its March vehicle order and accepts cars from the automaker's bank of overbuilds, dealers said. Chrysler, the U.S. arm of DaimlerChrysler AG, wouldn't confirm the plan, saying it doesn't disclose details of its dealership workings. But three separate dealers who spoke with Dow Jones Newswires at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention said the plan is designed to help soften the blow for dealers being pressured to accept more vehicles…

http://detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?A...UTO01/602090391 While I will give Chrysler credit for being profitable and gaining market share, could they be sprouting a leak? They do seem to have some fairly exciting new products coming (I like the Caliber, Nitro and some of the things coming from Jeep), but you have to wonder if they can keep up the momentum.

NYPD Adds 'General Lee' Muscle Car Descendent, 2006 Dodge Charger, to Its Fleet By TOM HAYS Associated Press Writer NEW YORK (AP) -- The New York Police Department is adding some muscle to its car fleet: the 2006 Dodge Charger, whose 1969 model is best remembered for outrunning a hapless sheriff in "The Dukes of Hazzard." The department plans to buy 15 police versions of the car for a pilot program that will begin this summer, officials said Thursday. With so many flashy foreign cars on the road, speed matters, said Leonard Lesko, the NYPD's director of fleet services. "The car that does 110 mph doesn't do it anymore," Lesko said. In a recent analysis by Michigan…

WHISPERS: Chrysler Crossfire Production May Be Cut by as Much as Two-Thirds Date posted: 02-01-2006 FRANKFURT — A German newspaper is reporting that Wilhelm Karmann, the company that makes the Chrysler Crossfire for DaimlerChrysler, plans to cut jobs as part of a two-thirds reduction in Crossfire production. A DaimlerChrysler spokesman in Germany, quoted by the Dow Jones News Service, denied the report, calling it "an extremely pessimistic forecast that we don't accept." Nevertheless, the spokesman did acknowledge that some reduction in Crossfire production will take place. The Crossfire went into production in 2003, and it is intended to have a five-year life cycl…

If you ever rent a midsize from Advantage Rent a Car, you will most likely get a 2-door Chrysler Sebring hardtop coupe instead of the Stratus 4-door which is ubiqutous in other fleets. My first impression is that this is a decent looking car. (I don't like the convertible). However, in pricing it, it is not competitive with a much more substantial purchase like a LaCrosse or Impala. Plus, for some unknown reason, the price differential between their 4 doors and the coupe is an eye-opener. Plus side: Good looks, nice instrument area, fun to drive Negative side: Price/value, C/R does not like it, not the most practical However, I voted YES. There are very fe…

Needed: -new headlights -drivers side fender -entire front grill and bumper One day I was hit from the side and I needed: -new driver's side doors -new driver's side mirror On Christmas Eve, I was going to my Sister in-law's house...it had snowed a couple days before, but the snow had melted. I came to this lake sized puddle. Of course, I decided to go through it because I had seen a little neon go through. so right in the middle of the puddle, An SUV come …
