Chrysler out to increase vehicles' common parts The Chrysler Group wants to use even more common parts for its different families of vehicles to save money. Eric Ridenour, Chrysler chief operating officer, made the comments during a presentation Thursday to the Automotive Analysts of New York Auto Conference at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Dearborn. The Auburn Hills-based unit of DaimlerChrysler AG is putting together a restructuring plan to correct recent losses, which reached $1.5 billion in the third quarter last year. Chrysler Chief Executive Tom LaSorda has said he plans to announce the plan near the end of February. On Thursday, Ridenour told analysts that Chrysler…

What do you guys think Chrysler should do with the next PT Cruiser? Rumor has it that it will lose all retro style and look like any other CUV in its next gen. I think that with everygen, it should be styled in a new decade. This one is supposed to look like a 40's car? Well, the next gen should have 50's styling. and so on.

Spied: Jeep Scrambler Concept/AEV Brute According to Eric Ridenour, the Jeep Gladiator was axed because it required its own unique platform. A production Jeep truck, if approved, would have to be based on an existing body-on-frame architecture, which brings us to the Wrangler pickup prototype we spotted in Detroit, as it was being transported between two off-site facilities for final assembly work. A Wrangler pickup has been rumored for quite some time, with the name Scrambler mentioned. Read "The Jeep Scrambler: Wrangler-based Pickup" @ Allpar

Chrysler Has No Firepower ...plans, that is. Not anymore. Chrysler Group is letting the flame go out on its Firepower concept, the Hemi-powered “grand tourer” that stoked performance ambitions for the auto maker’s core brand. “We’re not doing Firepower,” Trevor Creed, senior vice president-design, says. “We just couldn’t find a viable way to do it.” Reeling from the effects of bloated inventories, which led to a $1.5 billion third-quarter loss and an internal drive to shave $1,000 per vehicle-production cost, Chrysler is refocused on profitability. Against this backdrop, the auto maker has said no product will enter its pipeline unless it has realistic profit poten…

DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group is leasing 2006 model year vehicles at a drastically higher rate than crosstown rivals General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co. as it works to unload a glut of new cars and trucks. Partnering with Getrag, the automaker plans on creating 700,000 units annually, with production set to begin in 2009. The models that stand to benefit from the new transmission are primarily front-wheel drive vehicles, including the Avenger, Sebring and all manner of minivan. Additionally, the transmission will find an ideal partner with D.C.'s new Phoenix V6 engine, w…

Drove a co-worker's Charger R/T today. Great looking car outside. Great looking inside. Nice room. Fantastic power. . Don't know if it was the tires or what, but I noticed quite a bit of road noise coming in the cabin on the highway.....seemed odd. The interior materials were suprisingly nice. The wife and I rented a Chrysler 300 a couple of years ago and the interior was REALLY cheap on it. I was real disappointed, so it was a nice suprise to see the interior on the Charger seem classy. My buddy said he's getting close to 20 MPG combined city/hwy. Not too shabby for a HEMI, but he only has 1250 miles on the clock. Within the next year or so, I need to buy …

I went to a factory sponsored Ride and Drive Event today for Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep. It was like 2 miles from my house, so I'm like, 'sure'. Since I was able to check out a lot of the Chrysler Corp models and sit in them and drive them (albeit in very short low speed courses), it sure shaped some of my opinions on their products. It would be hard to satisfy the forum gods and get it all in one post so I will try to keep my initial posts to this one and two more and then if anyone has comments.

In Depth: 2007 Dodge Nitro Auburn Hills, Mich., Oct 1, 2006 - To better understand a new product, sometimes it helps to know what it is not. Take the all-new 2007 Dodge Nitro, for example. Nitro is not another mid-size sport-utility vehicle with sleep-inducing styling. Instead, the bold styling and masculine swagger of Dodge (think Viper, Ram, Magnum and Caliber) is hot-wired into Nitro, inside and out. The Dodge Nitro is not stuck on its handsome good looks. It’s also functional. Nitro’s spacious interior has room for five passengers, innovative cargo features, and the seating and storage flexibility to handle the needs of people and their gear. The Dodge Nitro is…

Chrysler Dealers Still Loaded with 2006s Chrysler, and all the brands contained within, is not experiencing the typical surge in dealer orders for model year 2007 vehicles that's typical for this time of year. Dealers, unable to unload the 2006 models already on their lots, are all about supporting their company, but not at the expense of their bottom line. Will Chrysler Restructure as Well? DaimlerChrysler Chairman Dieter Zetsche said Tuesday that the automaker will cut output by 90,000 vehicles in the third quarter -- up from previous estimates of about 75,000 -- and another 45,000 in the fourth quarter to bring dealer inventories more in line with consumer demand and make room in showrooms for new models that will roll out later this year. Zetsche also said the Auburn Hills-based automaker may have to take more drastic cost-cutting measures in the wake of last week's announcement that Chrysler will lose $1.5 billion in the third quarter, more than double its July estimate of $600 million in red ink, and report a loss …

Dodge Avenger Concept Makes Bold, Powerful Style Statement Paris, Sep 20, 2006 - Dodge is looking to spin the global D-segment with the all-new Dodge Avenger concept — a bold, styling statement that does away with the idea that a functional mid-size car is automatically boring. This Avenger concept, finished in a striking Inferno Red, will appeal to car buyers around the world who need the practicality, functionality and fuel efficiency of a mid-size sedan, but want more, incl…

Dodge Ram Recall Repair Parts Rare The big truck of the company that tells you to "grab life by the horns" has currently been grabbed by the balls by a lack of parts to repair them. More than 140,000 2006 Dodge Ram 1500s are under recall because of front and passenger-side air bags and seat belts that might not function properly with child safety seats. Chrysler notified dealers about the recall Sept. 6. The automaker plans to tell vehicle owners in October, when it has enough replacement parts stocked up to do repairs. Dealers said they've received air bag replacement parts but are waiting for seatbelt parts. Read "Dealers lacking Ram repair parts" @ Detroit Free …

TCC Test: 2007 Chrysler Sebring Touring Chrysler hopes the Sebring will build on the momentum of the Chrysler 300 and the Caliber, though the former is beginning to slump in its golden years. The mid-size segment home to the Sebring is a huge one-it's good for 2 million units a year, representing 28 per cent of the passenger car market-and Chrysler has a small to nonexistent image in the segment. All this explains the Sebring's grabber styling and long list of options, but does it mean that Chrysler's now reached the same lofty plateau of its Japanese competitors? A few pictured from the Barrie autoshow in Ontario. Taken by polish_kris. Ok, I know it looked dumpy in the official pictures, but in real life its pretty nice. The parts that look odd are the headlights, the hood, and busy looking trim. If you see it from far away, you might think its a Crossfire. Some of the plastics inside were a little poor, but overall it was really well executed.

The United States isn't the only place the Dodge Caliber is selling like hot cakes. According to a report by Automotive News Europe, the Caliber is enjoying a great deal of success in many European markets, with many customers now facing six-month waiting lists. "We underestimated demand for the product," Chrysler's Thomas Hausch told the trade publication. So far, the car has been on the market for three months overseas. Sales thus far have totaled 3,238 Calibers in western Europe. In 2005, Dodge sold 311 vehicles in total in the same market. The vehicles are selling "without any incentives," a major dealer in Paris said.
