William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com June 25, 2012 Volvo looks to joining its compatriots in Germany, South Korea, and Japan with building vehicles in North America. In a interview with Bloomberg, Volvo CEO Stefan Jacoby said they're looking for a partner to manufacture cars in North America. "In the medium term, five to six years, we need to find a proper solution in North America. Building a plant ourselves is maybe more unlikely. I’m looking for a partner that could help us utilize a North American plant," As to who, Jacoby said they are open to all manufacturers, even Fiat. "Fiat is obviously one of the alternatives. If you speak to Marchionne, just t…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com June 18, 2012 A few weeks ago, we reported on rumors of a hotted-up S60 being worked on by Volvo and its performance partner, Polestar. The S60 would use a tuned V8 engine from the XC90 and S80, producing 400 HP and going through an AWD system. Now, Polestar has unveiled the Volvo S60 Polestar performance concept. Before you ask, we're not sure if this is the car captured in the spy shots or not. But nevertheless, this is an impressive vehicle. The S60 Polestar performance concept comes equipped with a highly modified turbocharged 3.0L inline-six producing an eyewatering 508 horsepower and 424 lb-ft of torque. That give…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 5, 2012 Volvo appears to have their heart set on a luxury coupe, or that is what Inside Line is reporting. Sources inside Volvo say the company is considering a coupe and convertible that will sit above the current C70. The C90 would compete directly with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe and convertible. If given the green light, the C90 will use Volvo's new Scalable Platform Architecture that will underpin the XC90 and other vehicles. Power will come from a range of four-cylinder gas, diesel engines, and a plug-in hybrid model. Source: Inside Line View full article

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 1, 2012 Its hard to believe that the current Volvo XC90 will be around 11 years old when the next XC90 will come out. But according to Inside Line, that is what will happen. The new XC90 isn't due out till 2014 at the earliest, but it will bring forth a platform that will underpin many of Volvo's future products. Called Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), this platform will underpin the next generation S60, V70, XC60 and S80. As for power, the XC90 will exclusively use four-cylinder power only. The four-cylinder engines will be part of the Volvo Environmental Architecture engine family and come in gas and dies…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 28, 2012 Volvo's marketing campaign for the new S60 is going down a dark route. Instead of talking about how safe it is, Volvo is talking about how sporty and "Naughty" the S60 is. And it appears Volvo is upping the naughty a bit, if a report and some spy shots come to fruition. Sweden’s Tekniken Svarld reports that Volvo and performance partner, Polestar are working together to build high performance S60. Rumor points to a Yamaha sourced V8 that Volvo uses in the XC90 SUV and S80 flagship. The V8 has been tuned to somewhere in the range of 400 HP. Tekniken Svarld goes onto say that the S60 could get a sequential…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 17, 2012 What is the lowest cylinder engine that you can buy in a Volvo currently? If you said four, you would be wrong. Volvo hasn't sold a four-cylinder model since 2004. But that will be changing next year. Automotive News has found out that come 2013, Volvo will offer a 2.0L four-cylinder in the front-wheel-drive versions of the S60 and S80 sedans, the XC60 crossover and the XC70 wagon. The engine is part of Volvo's new Environmental Architecture family of four-cylinder engines. The family will replace all of the automaker's five- and six-cylinder engines. "The whole reason to do this is high fuel efficienc…

G. Noble Editor/Reporter CheersandGears.com Thursday, 23rd February, 2012 It isn’t easy for automakers to keep their upcoming models under wraps these days. While manufacturers would rather build our interest up for a new car with a slow trickle of teaser images until the wraps are pulled back, others would rather just release what few complete pieces of information they can get their hands on as soon as possible by whatever means necessary. So it isn’t much of a surprise Volvo’s new V40 five-door hatch has leaked out ahead of its reveal at the approaching Geneva Auto Show. Although there isn’t any official information or specifications, it’s safe to assume the V40 w…

Volvo Brings Back A Wagon With A Dash Of Hybrid William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com October 17, 2011 Previously if you wanted a wagon from Volvo, you could choose between the small V50, the large V70, and the all weather XC70. However due to poor sales and people heading towards to crossovers, Volvo has cut their wagon lineup to the XC70 only. Now, Volvo is sending over a new wagon with an added feature. The V60 Plug-In hybrid will be making it's way to the US sometime in 2012. The US version of the V60 hybrid will use a gas engine instead of a diesel engine for the rest of the world. Volvo hasn't released mileage figures of the gas ver…

Volvo Denies Rumors Of Buying Saab William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 22, 2011 Volvo is denying a report from Dutch newspaper, De Telegraaf about buying Saab. De Telegraff said in an article that the Swedish Goverment was in talks with Chinese owned Volvo about possibly putting in a bid to buy Saab. The move would give the Swedish government greater assurance that a loan from the European Investment Bank would be granted for Saab and a guarantee from Sweden that the loan would be paid back. Volvo Cars spokesman Per-Ake Froberg said about the report, "No such talks have been going on and no such talks are scheduled." Saab has been …

DETROIT — Volvo has been pretty quiet among the automakers developing electric vehicles, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t working on one. The company plans to roll out a test fleet next year and put some EVs in showrooms by 2013. The Swedish automaker arrived at the North American International Auto Show with a prototype Electric C30, a conversion based on the C30 hatchback. The car isn’t as sexy as, say, the Audi e-tron, but it’s a handsome car and more attractive than some EVs we’ve seen lately. Besides - Volvos have always been more about practicality and safety than leading-edge styling. Read More http://www.wired.com/autopia/2010/01/volvo_electric_c30/?utm_source=fee…
