Lincoln took the wraps off the re-imagined 2025 Lincoln Aviator today. The Aviator re-joined the Lincoln lineup in 2019 after a 14-year absence. The exterior of the Aviator has received a mild, but handsome freshening, bringing the look, especially in the grille, in line with the upcoming 2025 Lincoln Nautilus. New available lighting packages use light strips to welcome the owner via a light sequence called Lincoln Embrace as they approach, reversing the sequence as the vehicle is powered off. The Illumination Package, now standard on the Reserve and Black Label trims includes an illuminated Lincoln Star, adaptive pixel LED headlamps, speed-dependent lighting, …

Lincoln unveiled an all-new Nautilus for the 2024 model year today. Unlike the prior model, which ended production last year, there is no Ford counterpart, giving Lincoln its first model in decades without a direct counterpart from a lesser brand. Lincoln has reimagined the interior to maximize space and comfort for its occupants. The 2024 Nautilus bathes its occupants in luxury. A new console-style dash features "The Lincoln Embrace", an animation that starts at the center of the display and extends out, flowing into the door panels. The screen is the largest in its class and extends the entire width of the vehicle. This allows Nautilus drivers to create their own…

The first product to come from Ford's investment into startup automaker Rivian will likely be a Lincoln SUV due to arrive sometime in 2022. The vehicle will be all-wheel drive and compete against Rivian's own R1S which is priced at $72,500. The models will share Rivian's skateboard platform, a design that combines the motors, batteries, controls and suspension into a single unit that the body can be built around. The Rivian R1S is a three-row EV crossover with a range of up to 410 miles and will be built in Normal Illinois at a former Mitsubishi plant. It is expected to go into production sometime in 2021. There will also be a compact Lincoln EV crossover co…

Ford is preparing to launch a pair of mid-size crossover electric vehicles according to sources. One Ford and one Lincoln are code named CDX746 and CDX747 are similar in size to the Ford Edge and Lincoln Nautilus and both will be 2023 models. The vehicles were originally destined for Ford's plant in Cuautitlan, Mexico but have been moved to Flatrock Assembly in Michigan just south of Detroit. Flatrock Assembly is where the Ford Mustang and Lincoln Continental are currently built. These two EVs are slated for about 65,000 units annually and because of the move to Flatrock, essentially spell the end for the slow selling Lincoln Continental.... at least in the US. …

The new Lincoln Aviator will be introducing an Adaptive Suspension with Road Preview that uses the forward camera to sense potholes in the road and adjusts the suspension to minimize the impact felt in the cabin. The system uses 12 sensors to monitor vehicle conditions like vehicle motion, body movement, steering input, acceleration, and braking. The sensors read at 500 times per second and can make adjustments 100 times per second, this totals out to 23,000 inputs per second of data. The system can operate each wheel independently. Lincoln developed the entire system in-house. Additionally, in a nod to the air sprung Lincolns of the past, there will be an availabl…

Lincoln is giving the Navigator a few styling updates along with some new tech for the 2020 model year. For those who dislike huge amounts of chrome, the Navigator will now be offered in a Monochromatic package available on the Reserve series. The Monochromatic package will be available in three colors, Pristine White, Ceramic Pearl, and Infinite Black and reflect the minimalist trend in interior décor. On the technology side of things, Lincoln's Phone As A Key technology becomes standard. This technology will first arrive on the Lincoln Aviator this summer. Using the Lincoln Way app, the technology allows drivers to lock/unlock the doors, open the liftgate, start…

Back in June we reported that the Lincoln MKC would be changing its name to Corsair. While previously used as an Edsel name, Corsair fits in with Lincoln's nautical naming theme for some of their SUVs, Corsair being a small sailing vessel. Now, this week TTAC has uncovered a NHTSA document showing the engine lineup for the coming small crossover and it includes a plug-in hybrid variant. The plug-in hybrid will be a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder likely borrowed from the Fusion S. In that application it makes 175 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. There is no word on driving range yet, but one thing that is for sure is that the PHEV version is only available in all-wheel drive. Two …

If you were hoping to get your hands on the upcoming Lincoln Continental Coach Door Edition, then we have some bad news for you. Lincoln announced this morning that all 80 models planned for this year have been sold. Unlike most special models where you have to go through a unique ordering process, buyers could walk into any Lincoln dealer and place an order. Lincoln will notify the lucky 80 approved customers next month, with deliveries to begin this summer. "Response from customers has been extremely positive, with interest exceeding the planned production for the limited-edition run," the company said in a statement. Lincoln is planning a second run of Contin…

Back in March, we reported that Lincoln showed it dealers a Continental with rear-hinged suicide doors and announced plans to build it. We didn't have any details of when this model would launch or why - our speculation at the time was Lincoln showing some commitment to its car lineup. Today, Lincoln has revealed the suicide door version of the Continental. The 2019 Continental 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition pays tribute to the introduction of the Continental nameplate and one of its most iconic features - the suicide-hinged doors that were first offered in 1961. Lincoln teamed with Cabot Coach Builders in Massachusetts to produce this special e…

The upcoming Lincoln Aviator will be offering a very potent plug-in hybrid powertrain offering 450 horsepower and a whopping 600 pound-feet of torque. But what will Lincoln call this Aviator model? Most competitors use something like E-Hybrid, PHEV, or a 'e' to the end of the model. According to Automotive News, Lincoln will be using the Grand Touring (GT) to designate electrified variants. "Quite simply, it came down to, what does it do? And what it does is that it makes the vehicle more exciting to drive. It's the purest definition of Grand Touring," said Robert Parker, Lincoln's marketing chief. Lincoln went through various names, "including variations of the…

Ford has been banking on China to help revive sales of Lincoln and made plans to start building models in late 2019. But the on-going trade war between the U.S. and China has caused the company to reconsider their plans. “What we want to do is accelerate that. We will look for opportunities, but it’s a big undertaking and I think it won’t be a significant change in our plans,” said Joy Falotico, head of Lincoln and Ford’s chief marketing officer to Bloomberg. Currently, Lincoln doesn't have any local production in China. Instead, the brand has been importing vehicles from the U.S. which has meant getting hit with a 40 percent tariff by the Chinese government. Th…

Lincoln launched a pilot program for its own subscription service through Ford's Canvas earlier this year in the Los Angeles and the San Francisco areas. Unlike other programs that offer new vehicles, Lincoln's program offered off-lease vehicles that ranged from 2015 to 2017 model years. This allowed Lincoln to offer lower prices than competitors - prices ranged from $500 to $950 plus variable pricing on the amount of miles per month. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Lincoln's subscription service isn't doing so hot. “I’ve been surprised how few people are genuinely interested in that type of ownership. If you had asked me a year ago, I would have said this is the next big th…

While the Lincoln MKT will depart from consumer showrooms when the Aviator launches next year, it will be sticking around for some time to serve those in the livery market. Robert Parker, Lincoln's marketing manager tells Automotive News that the MKT has become a favorite for livery services and funeral homes and they want to keep around for a just a bit longer. "MKT can fill that role profitably for the company and will for the time being. We don't think it negatively impacts the brand," said Parker. "It has a place. Just like a long snapper on a football team. Nobody knows their name, or cares, but if he screws up a snap, it's a bad day." Why not hav…

Lincoln is slowly rising back up with products such as the Navigator, the 2019 Nautilus, and the upcoming Aviator. This has given the brand confidence and is asking dealers in the top 30 U.S. luxury markets to split away from Ford and build stand-alone stores. "Customers expect the environment to be equal to the product. They want to buy a luxury product in a luxury environment," said Robert Parker, Lincoln's director of marketing, sales, and service. Executives point out that the stand-alone stores regularly outsell Ford-Lincoln dealers and are responsive for most of the sales gains in recent years. About 150 dealers are located in the 30 markets that Linc…

Unlike the Ford Fusion which will end production in 2020, the fate of the Lincoln MKZ is very unclear. Will it go away? Will it become something else? What we do know is that MKZ will be kicking around for a couple more years. CarsDirect has gone through the order guide for the 2019 MKZ and pulled out some interesting tidbits. The first is the removal of the Black Label trim. Aside from exclusive interior appointments, Black Label also gave owners "membership privileges" such as 4-year maintenance plan, and getting special access to events and restaurants. This is likely an effort to reduce complexity of the MKZ lineup - now comprised of MKZ (base), Reserve I, and Re…

Lincoln has been slowing transitioning their nomenclature system from three letter (MK_) to actual names - MKX to Nautilus for example. The next-generation MKC, due in 2020 as a 2021 model will see its name change to Corsair. Automotive News reports the name was announced last month to Ford and Lincoln dealers at a conference held in Orlando according to those who attended the meeting. Corsair, the name of a pirate ship and a World War II fighter plane first came to light last year when Ford filed a trademark on. The name was last used on a badge engineered model between Ford and Nissan for Australia. Sources at Ford said the name isn't final and could change be…

Ever since Ford announced that it would cutting most of their passenger car lineup, questions arose as to what would happen to the subsequent Lincoln models. The Contiental and MKZ share platforms with Ford models that will be cut - Fusion and Taurus. Thankfully, we have gotten an answer to this. A Lincoln spokesperson told Automobile Magazine they are "committed" to both the Contiental and MKZ. No other information was provided. But there arises the question as to how long Lincoln is "committed" to both models. The MKZ has seen sales decline from 34,009 in 2014 (the year it was redesigned) to 27,387 units last year. The Continental hasn't been faring any better…

Lincoln only established itself in China back in 2015, but it is proving to be quite successful. Last year, Lincoln sold 54,124 models in the country. But the brand has big ambitions and believes it could sell more models in the world's largest auto market if they started building models there. According to Reuters, Lincoln is planning on building up five new vehicles in China by 2022. Officially, Ford has announced a new crossover for the Chinese market in 2019. But sources tell the news service that the automaker is planning on building the upcoming Aviator in China by late 2019 or early 2020. This will be followed by the successors to the MKC and MKZ, and the Naut…

Lincoln is the latest automaker to launch a pilot program for a car subscription service. But this subscription service will differ from the others in one key way; Lincoln will be offering a range of pre-owned 2017 vehicles, not new models. Lincoln's service will be run through Ford's subscription service, Canvas. Like Lincoln, Canvas allows subscribers to choose from a range of pre-owned Ford vehicles. The service will launch in West Los Angeles and the San Francisco area. No word on pricing, but Lincoln says a monthly payment will have a "mileage package," along with a warranty, maintenance, and insurance. Subscribers will also have access to Lincoln's Pickup and De…

The Lincoln Continental isn't doing so well. So far in 2018, sales of the model have dropped 30 percent. As we reported earlier this month, there is talk that the Continental could be going away once its lifecycle is completed. But the brand isn't giving up on their flagship sedan just yet. During the 2018 National Automobile Dealers Association show yesterday, Lincoln showed its dealers a photo of the Continental with rear-hinged (aka suicide) doors and disclosed plans to build it. The move is part of an effort by Lincoln to show commitment to its car lineup. No timeframe or additional details were given. A number of Lincoln dealers who were at the meeting revealed …

The grim reaper appears to circling around the Lincoln Continental if a new report is to believed. Ford Authority has learned from sources familar with Lincoln's future product plans that the Continental will be end after this current-generation. No reason was given as to why the Continental could be shown the door. If we were to hazard a guess, it might be due to low sales number. Throughout its 18 months of being on sale, Lincoln has only moved 18,846 Continentals. 2016 (Sept to Dec): 5,261 2017: 12,012 2018 (so far): 1,573 The Continental is doing much better than the Lexus GS (1,009 models) and Acura RLX (285 models) so far this year. …

Lincoln could be one of the next automakers to announce plans for electrifying their lineup. Reuters has learned from sources that Lincoln is planning to offer hybrid versions of all of their models beginning in 2022. One source said that the brand is also considering one or more electric-only models. This is a key to Lincoln's future in China where the country will be requiring automakers to sell a certain percentage of EVs. Plans for Lincoln's electrification could happen as early as October 2nd, where Ford CEO Jim Hackett will update investors on the automaker's strategy. Sources said Lincoln has been working on this before Hackett became CEO. A Ford spokesma…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com January 13, 2013 Lincoln has revealed their MKC crossover concept a day before its official introduction at the Detroit Auto Show and gives us an indication of what a production model could look like when its introduced later this year. The MKC Concept's overall look is Lincoln's best attempt at distancing themselves from a similar Ford model. The look is a mishmash of Lincoln MKZ, Range Rover Evoque, and Ford Escape. The front end features winged grille with some LED headlamps sitting on either side. Around back, Lincoln designers cut into the bodysides for the rear hatch, giving it a smooth, uninterrupted look. Thanks to the new Lincoln Continental turning heads everywhere it goes, along with offering a truly impressive luxury experience, it’s earned a second place spot amongst full-size premium luxury sedan sales in the United States. As always, Mercedes-Benz tops the list with 1,275 units sold. Ford’s Lincoln Continental comes in at a fairly close second with 1,061 units sold. Next up comes GM’s Cadillac CT6 selling 1,001 units. Following Cadillac is BMW’s 7-Series with 524 sales. The Volvo S90 sold 473 times. The new Genesis Motors brand’s G90 sold 397 units. The Lexus LS only sold 317. Even less than that, the Audi A8/S8 sold 216 units of the full-size premium luxury sedan.…

The 2017 Continental is the strongest proof point yet of our brand reinvention. Its name has long been synonymous with the ultimate in Lincoln luxury. Continental is attracting new customers while at the same time establishing a new standard for product excellence and client experiences. We will continue the momentum with the launch of our broadcast campaign – once again featuring Matthew McConaughey – showcasing Continental against scenic Icelandic landscapes. The campaign will make its broadcast debut on Dec. 31 with two television spots, “Entrance” and “Crafted” airing on New Year’s Eve during the Peach Bowl and Fiesta Bowl. Ahead of that, I am pleas…

The 2017 Lincoln Continental might be labeled as quiet luxury, but even the timid ones have a wild side. And how could it not with two turbos and 400 horses under its hood? The big Lincoln returns after a 14-year hiatus, and the automaker set out to make its comeback something special. And that’s certainly the case with one of the sedan’s engine choices—a Lincoln-exclusive 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 churning out 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque that’s been paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard fare, but our test car was equipped with an all-wheel-drive system. http://www.motortrend.com/cars/lincoln/continental/2017/2017-lincol…

So basically, I read the review. But really I picked this source because these are the first good pictures in good natural lighting to show the new Conti in production spec. I like the way it looks, I think this paint colour is very adventurous, but the blue paint with the blue interior is my personal favourite. I think the Conti screams luxo, and American luxo really well. It may not be to your tastes, but oh well, I can accept that America still knows how to make big sedans, however flawed or incomplete this or the CT6 are. Again, I only looked at this article for the pictures. More are their link: http://www.motor1.com/reviews/127066/2017-l…

" As we alluded to earlier, that was perhaps the biggest criticism leveled at the 2016 vintage of MKZ; that it felt like simply like a blinged up Fusion, that Lincoln could have done more to distance one of its mid-level luxury cars from the Fords on which they are based. The MKZ and Fusion are still closely related- park the two close together and you’ll see what we mean- but this time around, Lincoln’s efforts to make the MKZ stand out have paid off smartly. There is the styling we talked about earlier, as well as the broad shouldered 3.0 turbocharged V6 that will not be found under the hood of anything with a Ford badge. There’s also the way it feels and drives, and we…

Over the past few years, car owners have become increasingly dissatisfied with their vehicles. But a new study from the American Customer Satisfaction Index suggests that for most automakers, consumer sentiment has made a turn for the better. ACSI's 2016 Automobile Report polled 3,776 auto customers, asking them to evaluate their experiences with a wide range of car brands, using a scale of 0 (not at all satisfied) to 100 (over the moon). Most of the questions consumers were asked had to do with a car's design or performance--how it looked on the inside and outside, how it handled on the road, and so on. However, there were a couple of questions that related more di…

Ford has big ambitions for Lincoln in the Chinese marketplace. CEO Mark Fields has said that China could eclipse the U.S. as the biggest market for the luxury brand. During the first year of selling vehicles in the country, Lincoln moved over 11,000 vehicles. According to Fields, this is the fastest start for a luxury-auto brand there “in recent history.” “It’s different in the U.S. than in China. In China, our heritage plays very strong. Our favorable opinion in China is actually ahead of Lexus and on the factor of prestige, we’re actually ahead of Audi,” said Kumar Galhotra, head of Lincoln. Ford wants to take the next step and possibly start building Lincolns i…

The Lincoln Continental is turning out to be very popular with potential buyers. Automotive News reports that Lincoln has a list of 40,000 people who are interested buying the Continental. “People are asking a lot of questions about the car. The list in question is the Continental “hand raiser” list, comprising of consumers who have provided contact information to follow-up once more information is provided. According to Matt VanDyke, director of global Lincoln, this list is longer than the one for the MKX crossover. But trying to get interested …

Roughly 100 judges voted Lincoln’s new flagship sedan as Best of Show amongst all the reveals at the 2016 North American International Auto show. The Continental sports three engine options: a base, 3.7-liter V-6, 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6, and a powerful, 3.0-liter twin-turbo six with 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. With a updated MKZ and a new Continental readying for its debut, it seems Lincoln is on the right track. But what does the future hold for them? Those who were hoping for a return of Mark coupe series will be somewhat disappointed. "We've said we need to cover the core segments first. Luxury coupes and sports cars are not the first place we need to go," said Matt VanDyke, director of global Lincoln to Automotive News. That means focusing on their current lineup and making improvements. One of those improvements is updating its look. The 2017 MKZ is one of the first models to see this update with a new rectangular grille first shown on the Continental concept. Alo…

But the most important new model for the brand could be the Continental four-door sedan, which will bow at the Detroit auto show next January. It will be based on a front-wheel-drive platform; Jalal confirmed an all-wheel-drive version. A hybrid is not in the cards any time soon. The significance of the Continental stretches to styling. Its grille—seen as Bentley-esque by some—could replace the current “waterfall” grille. Could the new grille be put on existing models on the occasion of a mid-term facelift? “It is possible,” says Jalal, adding that the reaction to the Continental concept at this year’s New York auto show was “very promising.” The Continental won’t ush…

Lincoln is giving the 2016 MKX a major improvement in style and tech, and is introducing the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 as an option for the luxury crossover. While all of those changes are significant, the cost might be just as enticing to get customers checking out the new generation. The base price for 2016 falls to $38,995, after an $895 destination charge on all models, compared to $39,795 for the 2015. At this time, there are three trim levels listed on Lincoln's site, but a Black Label version is supposed to come along later to add a bit more opulence. Above the base Premiere trim, the Select model starts at $42,285, and adds features like LED running lights, folding a…

When the Lincoln Continental begins production sometime next year, it won't be at Chicago Assembly plant where the current MKS is built. Ford announced this week that it will be phasing out the MKS in 2016. This announcement came at a event where the company was promoting the increase of Ford Explorer output at Ford’s Chicago plant. “Chicago Assembly Plant is vital to our global manufacturing footprint and will continue to manufacture the Ford Taurus, Ford Explorer and Police Interceptor vehicles even after we phase out production of the MKS in 2016. We will continue to match production to demand,” the company said in a statement. Automotive News says this stateme…

A few weeks after Lincoln revealed the Continental Concept at the New York Auto Show, spy photographers have caught a Continental test mule running around Dearborn. Lincoln has gone record saying that the production model of the Continental will look largely to the concept, and judging from the spy shots, it seems Lincoln is sticking with that. Comparing the spy shots to shots of the concept show both share similar proportions and a number of key design elements such as the large grille. Power is rumored to be the 3.0L EcoBoost V6 found in the concept. As for what will underpin the Continental, speculation has it being a stretched version of the CD4 platform - what unde…

What's in store for the Lincoln MKT? If a report from The Truth About Cars has any idea, it looks like it could be going to a normal crossover shape. A source tells TTAC that engineers are working on a project Known internally as ‘Aviator’. This project will be using the next-generation Ford Explorer as a base. No report as to what platform this will use, but some believe its the upcoming D6 platform which will allow for front, rear, and all-wheel drive configurations. The source goes onto say that there will not be a next-generation Ford Flex. “We do not comment on speculation. MKT continues to be present in our lineup, with a new model in 2015. By 2020, we expe…

For many years, Lincoln has been known as the brand that sells glorified Fords. But according to Reuters, that could be changing in the near future. Mark Fields, the blue oval's new chairman is is going ahead multiyear, multibillion-dollar overhaul of Lincoln that will include a new premium vehicle platform. Ford's board and executive chairman Bill Ford have given the go ahead in this plan. "It's really important for us to have a relevant and vibrant luxury brand. You need to make the investment and build this brand over time," said Fields. Sources tell Reuters that the new platform, named D6, will be able to be configured in front, rear, and all-wheel drive. A welcome addition to the MKZ would be the 2.3L GTDI as base motor. Very similar specs to the MKC model, but I then see no reason to offer the 2.0L anymore. Lots of major hybrid powertrain changes coming in 2017 that won't be ready yet. I may have floated a rumor in the past that a performance MKZ is coming. If it does, we should all expect the new 3.0L GTDI in it, right? Complete with new Focus RS AWD system?

One of the biggest issues with Lincoln deals with their nomenclature. The MK-insert letter naming system has brought confusion buyers and people who cover the industry. Saying you own a MKZ for example either meant no one understood what you said or had people wondering if that was the sedan or a crossover. But Automotive News says that common sense has possibly returned to Lincoln and that actual names is in the cards. “I get it. I know MKX and C and Z and T. I’ve studied them very well. I know them well, but we also understand the issue. It’s, frankly, where the auto industry -- the premium industry -- has gone, if you look at all the nameplates. But another way Lincol…

It was last August at Pebble Beach where Lincoln previewed the Black Label line. The new line features a higher level of personal service and luxury upgrades for buyers. Think BMW Individual or Mercedes-Benz designo but with more perks. “Black Label represents a new level of Lincoln luxury in terms of product execution and personal service. This combination of elevated service, materials and execution will set Lincoln Black Label apart,” aid Matt VanDyke, director of global Lincoln. The line will first be available on the MKC crossover and MKZ sedan, and begins with a choice of four different interior themes: Indulgence: "Inspired by the allure of rich, sumptuous choc…

The 1998 Lincoln Navigator created the full size luxury SUV segment, but the Navigator has lost the spotlight since then. Lincoln hopes to get it back with the redesigned 2015 Navigator. Lincoln took the wraps off the next version of the Navigator today. One thing the Navigator has never been is subtle and that trait carries over with the 2015 model. Up front is a brash interpretation of Lincoln's split grille design sporting 5 chunky, horizontal bars in each grille portal. The light cluster carry LED accent lighting while the headlights are the more traditional HID type. The power tailgate sports a full width LED tail light design, that some have suggested is reminisce…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 6, 2013 Lincoln has been having a rough year so far and Ford wants to help out. The way they are doing is causing an uproar with their dealers. According to Bloomberg, Ford has implemented a bonus program for Lincoln dealers in certain markets that is known as stair-step incentives. Stair-step incentives work by giving higher bonus once a dealer sells a certain number of vehicles. For example, if you sell ten models, you will get a $500 bonus per model. Sell an additional ten models and the bonus increases to $1,000. Hence the stair-step. “There are some inherently unfair aspects of stair-step programs. They’r…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 29, 2013 Sometimes you have to admit the truth, even if its harsh. Case in point; Ford’s design chief J Mays recently told The Detroit News that Lincoln is 'not true luxury'. “No, we’re not true luxury. We’re in an investment stage with Lincoln. We’ve probably got a 10-year investment to make,” Mays said. Its easy to see Mays' point. Most of Lincoln's lineup are tarted-up Ford products. The first real product that shows Lincoln is trying to change its ways is the new MKZ. The model has some features such as a panoramic sunroof and push-button transmission that are unique to Lincoln. Mays explained that Lincoln ha…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 24, 2013 More MKZs are coming! Hinrichs explained that Lincoln MKZs aren't being shipped no longer being shipped from Ford's Hermosillo, Mexico plant, to another plant in Flat Rock for additional inspection and repairs. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 11, 2013 When Lincoln pulled the plug on the Town Car, livery companies cried. For them it was the perfect vehicle since it offered the right amount of and bulletproof reliability that is needed for this line of work. Lincoln is offering Livery companies the MKT Town Car which offers more space than the outgoing Town Car, but it doesn't seem many liveries are picking one up. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com February 12, 2013 Right now isn't a good time to be Lincoln. Executives recently had to deal with frustrated dealers at National Automobile Dealers Association Convention and Expo in Orlando, FL. The frustrations stem from the lack of the new MKZ on dealer lots. Don Chalmers, a Ford and Lincoln dealer from New Mexico tells The Detroit News that with the lack of inventory, they're losing sales from customers who want to buy. Lincoln sales in January were to say in the least, abysmal. Total sales was around 4,191 vehicles, an 18% drop when compared to last year. MKZ sales suffered badly; Lincoln only sold 453 vehicles f…

A source tells The Detroit News that at a recent dealer meeting, Ford announced an 18% rise in sales for next year would constitute a "good year". William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 13, 2012 Lincoln will not be following in the footsteps of Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, or Cadillac with low-volume niche markets. Instead, Lincoln will be focusing on the volume segments in the luxury segment. It's easy to see why Lincoln is going down this path. Sales so far this year are down 11%. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com June 27, 2012 During the mid to late nineties, if you wanted a RWD american luxury sedan, you went to the Lincoln dealership; Mark VIII, Town Car, and the LS. However, the 2000's brought a sea change to Lincoln. The RWD philosophy was pushed away, going towards a FWD/AWD ideology, which has brought mixed results. Part of the meeting dealt with renovations for Lincoln dealerships. According to Ford CEO Alan Mulally, a standalone Lincoln dealer can expect to pay $1 million for renovations while a Ford-Lincoln dealer can expect to pay around $1.9 million. Lincoln Ponders A Performance Division William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 2, 2011 Nearly every luxury brand have a performance line that's designated by either a single letter or group of letters; Cadillac's V, BMW's M, Mercedes-Benz's AMG, and Audi's S and RS to name a few. One brand not on this list is Lincoln, but that could be changing. Rumor has it that Ford is deciding whether to create a performance line for Lincoln. The move would help Lincoln show that it's serious in competing with other luxury brands. The vehicles that are presumed to get some muscle are the MKS and MKZ sedans, using modified EcoBoost engines and a AWD sy…

Now, Ford has a team of eighty-five people working on one goal; Fix Lincoln. "We know the needs of Lincoln are different from nonluxury. The Happiest Man in Detroit - BusinessWeek (page 4 of 5) Ford CEO Alan Mulally took a broken car company and made it the world's most profitable. Here's why this fairy-tale turnaround is still far from complete By Keith Naughton February 3, 2011, 5:00PM EST ...The first glimpse of Lincoln's new look was scheduled to arrive in April 2011 at the New York Auto Show, say three people familiar with Ford's plans. Mulally had intended to unveil a concept of the next-generation MKZ sedan. Larger than the current model, it also looks more elegant while retaining the prominent split-bow grille Lincoln introduced three years ago, according to two people who have seen the car…

Lincoln: Where did the Elegance go? Wiliam Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com January 15th, 2011 "There's something about the look of the Continental II that invites hushed reverence when you are in its presence. Massive, austere, and sculptured, it seems hewn from the solid; a four-wheel piece of municipal architecture with that air of reserved – if slightly self-conscious – elegance that has defined all the best Lincolns." - Classic Cars – July 2004 Elegance would be the word I would use to describe Lincolns of the past; the Continental, Mark Series, Zephyr V12, and the Town Car to name a few. When a Lincoln pulled up to a restaurant, p…

I think Lincolns are handsome cars but they are also tarted up fords with little in the way of unique tech. With Mercury shut down and the PAG brands sold what do you think Ford needs to do to catapult Lincoln into the top tier of luxury vehicles? We know that there are 7 new or heavily revised vehicles coming to the brand in the next few years so let's speculate what each of us would do if we were in charge of product planning. I'll get this kicked off. My plan has then emulate Audi with wider use of more advanced AWD and turbo. Focus based sedan and maybe a wagon FWD/AWD with 1.6 ecoboost 180hp/180ftlbs base and optional (awd only) 2.0 ecoboost at 245hp/265ftlbs -…
