Checking out the GMC lot, I noticed many of the new Sierra's come with "chrome-clad aluminum wheels" which looked like a steel wheel (based on where the rim meets the tire) with a Chrome-plated plastic cover. The 17"s are still cast aluminum, but all the 18s seem to have these plastic wheels. What's the buyer advantage?

GMC Moving On Up? William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 9, 2011 General Motors has been doing a pretty good job of separating Chevrolet from GMC. The Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia is a good example; the vehicles share a lot of under bits, but have their own identity. GM is now looking to extend that separation between the two brands. GM's president of North America, Mark Reuss did an interview with Automotive News last week. He talked about how GM's approach of using two brands to sell pickups needs to be better executed for the future. Before, GM would price Chevrolet and GMC products similar and have the same incentives. That in …

Coming Crossover Shakeup at GMC Acadia and Terrain both getting downsized Conceptualization by Andrew Currie of Sector329Graphics.com February 15th, 2011 Drew Dowdell - CheersandGears.com If you like the GMC Acadia for it's full size SUV roominess, you better grab it now while it's still full size. A few weeks ago during ourreview of the 2011 GMC Acadia Denali, we wondered aloud in the review about the relevance of that top shelf GMC Crossover when there was an equally luxurious, yet more curvy Buick Enclave sitting in the same showroom. Apparently there were heads at General Motors wondering the same thing. Our inside sources…

SPIED: '12 GMC Terrain Denali - NO Camo! It looks like GM was hoping to hide this 2012 Terrain Denali in plain view today, roaming around Detroit with NO camouflage at all! Once the engineer behind the wheels saw our camera, however, he made a quick get-away! Up front, it's very easy to see the Denali-style grille. Though we're pretty sure that grille will be chrome once this vehicle starts production. In back, we can see a new square, chrome exhaust tip. Along the rocker panels, we can see exposed fastener holes where we assume some Denali-specific trim will eventually be installed. Bright finish, Denali wheels should also on the list. Much better views of the little Granite pickup can be found here. We need a tiny pickup in the USA... not as a replacement for anything, but as an addition to the lower end. This one is nicely done, imo.

GMC's first Front-Driver Back in 1973, GMC launched its first front-wheel drive model. Thoughout GM's history, they've launched so many radical vehicles from the "copper-cooled" Chevrolet of the 1920s to the electric and steam-powered prototypes of the 1960s, but this one is one of the most radical...and, oddly enough, one of the most mainstream. And it was a movie star...check it out and give your thoughts! http://automotivetra...r.com/jump/3031

Try #2: Motor Trend Confirms GMC Granite William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com February 21, 2011 Last Summer, Motor Trend confirmed the GMC Granite would be going into production based on statements from Tom Stephens, GM's engineering chief. However, Motor Trend changed it to strongly believes after GM's PR said Stephen's comments were not conformation. Now, Motor Trend is going for try number two with the GMC Granite going into production. This time, they have a source who says the Granite has been given the go. Their source says the Granite will be riding on the delta platform that also underpins the Buick Verano, Chevrolet Cruze …

Terrain? As long as that terrain is no more challenging than a pebble in the asphalt. The Skoda Yeti offers a variety of engines and transmissions, and in the 4WD model, offers differential locks, for piece of mind even if you're only on an uneven sand trail back to your favorite beach spot. Terrain has about a $13,000 price differential between base 4 cylinder FWD models and loaded V6 AWD models, yet it offers not much variety in drivetrain options, nor is it even pretending to be useful offroad. To me GMC is wasting an opportunity to be professional grade here. I like the looks of the Terrain, even if it is a bit too low to the ground. A vehicle sold here in the s…

Spied! 2011 GMC Sierra 3500 Heavy Duty Last month, our spies caught a lightly disguised 2011 GMC Sierra 2500 Heavy Duty pickup out and about, showing off its new three-bar perforated grille that shares styling with the 2010 GMC Terrain midsize crossover. Now, we’ve just received this picture of a completely uncamouflaged 2011 GMC Sierra 3500 dually, which sports a brand new hood that features reverse-power-dome styling with prominent center mounted louvers. It says “Duramax 6.6-liter” on the louver sides, along with the logo for the Duramax’s six-speed Allison transmission. Full Story Here

The Sierra purchase and subsequent service relationship with "my" BPG dealership was all positive from day one. I wonder what would happen if I went in there this fall and ordered a 2010 Canyon SLE1 extended cab 4X4 5 cylinder with posi and power convenience package in that new gray-green color with tan interior. I still appreciate chrome bumpers on a pickup truck, and Colorado is all about the body-color bumpers unless I go full-tilt Z71, which I am scared of due to MSRP loftiness.

Judging by the looks of this prototype, plans for a GMC version of General Motors' updated Theta platform are almost ready for prime-time. Essentially the replacement for the Pontiac Torrent, this cladded-up GMC Terrain prototype reveals a masculine, blocky exterior with good differentiation between it and the forthcoming Chevrolet Equinox successor. A large, quadrangular shield grille stands proud while the blocky bumperette-style outcroppings in the corners give the crossover a bluff looking front end in a bid to reinforce GMC's image as a truck brand. In profile, the crossover has strong, squared-off wheel arches and flares that alleviate its otherwise slab sides, an…

Well at least it was a GMC Envoy that was the last built model. However, I don't personally like the fact that GM had to choose the 23rd to end production of these trucks (my birthday). What hurt them was the lack of dollars spent on updates - while the '06 refresh brought some minor upgrades, it wasn't enough. If they received a new interior in '06, with the new radios (blacktie) I would have looked at getting another one. But since these trucks have been on the market since spring of 2001, they basically soldiered on for 8 years without changes (wheels, colors, minor exterior trim updates are about it). I know many of the posters on here did not like the Envoy, b…

Hello Everybody, Let me start off by saying I know very little about cars. I'm a software engineer by trade so please keep that in mind as you respond to my post(s). I know most of the basic components work. I can fix a flat and change my oil but that's about it. Here's my story: I've been contemplating for the past, oh I don't know...year and a half, about buying a new car. I'm at the point in my life (and career for that matter) where I can afford to buy myself something nice. During that time, the Sierra Denali has been front and center in my thinking. I haven't really been thinking about it all that seriously though because I don't really drive that much any…

Article Monday, February 11, 2008 Feds to investigate GM SUV fires Associated Press WASHINGTON -- The government is investigating reports of engine fires in General Motors' full-size sport utility vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it has received two reports of fires on 2007 model year Chevrolet Tahoe SUVs. Both reports allege that the vehicles were parked in a home garage with the engine shut off when the fires occurred, causing significant property damage. The investigation, which also includes the 2007 GMC Yukon SUV, involves about 423,000 SUVs. General Motors Corp. spokesman Alan Adler says today the company was coope…

Check out the pictures someone ignored the embargo on of the new GMC Zeta. I will not post the pictures here but you cvan see them at Aublog.com Boys I think we are looking at the future and it looks great. We have a Zeta with truck like shoulders. GMC added a hybrid system to this and made a vehicle that would make a joke out of the Toyota and Honda entries in this small unibody truck market. The XT has a V8 and should have many of the abilities of the old 1/2 ton truck but in a more Crossover/Car like platform. I can see this as a way to combate the loss of truck sales and move people to a more higher mileage platform. Now if they could also do this in a l…

Hey guys, not quite sure if this is where this thread belongs, but hopefully if not, It will get moved. I didn't know if the dealers typically follow a pattern in rebates through the months of the year. I ordered a new 2500HD and it will be here in February. DIdn't know if that was traditionally a bad month and hopefully they usually give bigger rebates then???????? I believe they're somewhere around $1500-2000 now. It will be my first ever new vehicle purchase, so I don't have any past experience with new car rebates to go back on. Thanks in advance.

Ok guys, I need someone's help that maybe works at the factory or a dealership. I just ordered my 2008 GMC Sierra 2500 HD, well, it will be a while till I get it, so I was in my office just going through the brochure, reading about all my new goodies coming my way and noticed a discrepancy. I hardly listen to CD's so I just took the single CD because it didn't cost any extra. However, looking through the brochure, I notice that on the SLT trim that I picked, the 6 disc in dash is standard with that trim package? Called my dealer and asked if he co…

GM @ Middle East Intl. Motor Show 2008 GMC Terrain Link to Original Article @ DriveArabia The 2007 Middle East International Motor Show in Dubai played host to its very own “world premiere” by General Motors. The new vehicle is the 2008 GMC Terrain for the Middle East market. Of course, this new compact 4WD is already on sale in Europe as the Opel Antara. The softroader is largely based on the Korean-built Chevy Captiva, so we expect similar engine options. It rounds off the GMC line-up perfectly, since the expensive Acadia is too large for most people.

It will actually be his personal vehicle, but he's a real basics kind of guy and didn't want power anything or carpeted floors. So he finally found a dealer that had, or I should say would pick up, what he wanted. A white 2007 GMC Sierra Ext Cab 2WD with 4.8L V8. Crank windows, manual door locks, and hose-out flooring. Only option other than the extended cab is cloth seats instead of vinyl. He haggled the dealer down to $22,500, including tax and licensing fees, from $24,900 excluding tax and fees. Plus 0% interest, and I think he's putting $2-3k down, so he got a damn good deal, IMO. I'll see if I can get pictures and his impressions when he picks it up this week…

According to this article, the Tundra is estimated to be outselling the GMT900 Sierra 1500. If this holds it's further proof that GM needs to rationalize its BPG and Chevy lines before Toyota starts outselling Chevy. It's bad enough for Toyota to outsell GMC. Just think how painful it'll be when Chevy gets overtaken. Don't think it won't happen! http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/news/toyot...pastsierra.html

GM Tuner Rolls Out Production Version of Ironhide From Transformers Movie Date posted: 07-06-2007 | Link to Original Article @ Edmunds MONROE, Wis. — All Transformers fans know that Ironhide is the slowest Autobot, but also the least vulnerable to attack. He transforms into a GMC TopKick 6500 pickup — and now a GM tuner has rolled out a production version. Monroe Truck Equipment, in association with toymaker Hasbro, says the production version of Ironhide includes custom 20-inch aluminum painted black wheels fitted with monster 40-inch tires. The GMC TopKick normally comes equipped with dual rear wheels. Other details include two chrome big-rig smokestacks, horizonta…

2007 GMC Acadia Road Test A notch above the rest—including some big names by Eric Peters | (2007-07-05) | Link to Original Article @ TCC GMC is GM's upscale SUV and truck division, up a notch from Chevy, not quite as high-end as Cadillac. And until now, it has only sold trucks and truck-based SUVs. Of course, not everyone needs or wants a truck - or even truck-based SUV, for that matter. Realizing this, GM decided to broaden GMC's product portfolio by adding the new Acadia to the lineup. Though it has the hunky looks of a large, truck-based SUV, the eight-passenger Acadia is in fact the first-ever GMC model to be built on what is essentially a front-wheel-drive, …

Well it happened really fast, but I will soon be the new owner of the Carbon Metallic Acadia SLE AWD with Titanium cloth. I went to the Chicago Auto show and saw the car for the first time in person, took one for a drive two days ago and will soon have one in my driveway. Very impressed by how the car not only looks but also how it drives. I defintely can concur with many others in past posts how nice this vehicle is. Definitely will be a sales hit! At first we had a little problem getting it down to the payments I wanted, and a fair value for my trade, but it all worked out in the end. We moved quick on it because there were alot of extra incentives that ended o…

Acadia Takes The Lead GMC crossover is expected to be new plant's top seller By RICK KRANZ | Link to Original Article @ AutoWeek LANSING, Mich. - General Motors expects the GMC Acadia to be the best seller among the three new crossovers it builds near here. The 2007 Acadia and Saturn Outlook and the 2008 Buick Enclave share GM's new front-drive Lambda vehicle architecture and are built at GM's newest assembly plant in Delta Township, Mich. Through May, 28,264 Acadias were sold, compared with 12,694 Outlooks and 1,905 Enclaves. Enclave production started in April. The base Acadia has a $29,990 sticker price, and the Outlook starts at $27,990. Both prices include shi…

Hi there. I have a problem with my 93 Astro. It is mechanically sound, but will shut down for no reason we've yet been able to determine. Some days it will run all day without any problems, some days it will run for 20 minutes and then ... nothing. There aren't any unusual noises associated with it, it just stops and refuses to start. The mechanics who have so far looked at the problem have thought that it might be any of the following: crank sensor, fuel pump, fuel sender relay, or the computer. If anyone has any ideas, has had this problem, or can direct me to a resource that will better be able to assist me with it, I'd appreciate it a whole lot. The vehicle is…

Memorial: GMC Syclone And Typhoon
by Guest YellowJacket894- 21 replies

In 1989 GMC stuffed a turbocharged 3.8 liter V6 engine from the legendary 1987 Buick Grand National into an all-wheel drive equipped GMC S-15 engine bay to create the GMC Syclone concept for the Chicago Auto Show. The truck generated favorable interest and people were wondering if a production version was coming. I think we all know the answer to that. In 1990, GM gave the Syclone a thumbs-up. In 1991, the Syclone ripped its way to dealer lots (with a turbo 4.3 V6 instead of the 3.8 GN powerplant). The public's response was great and GMC soon shoehorned the Syclone's turbo 4.3 into the two-door S-15 Jimmy body. The result was the Typhoon. The purpose here is to …

Dodge let the insane Ram SRT-10 fade away last year, Ford hasn't built the beloved F-150 Lightning since 2003 and the newly muscular Toyota Tundra is more than 20 horsepower behind. In fact the only open-bed contraption that matches the Sierra Denali pony-for-pony is the Cadillac Escalade EXT, which shares GM's 403-horsepower, 6.2-liter OHV V8 and…

Acadian Allure GMC's new crossover builds interest with women By LAURA CLARK GEIST | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS Link to Original Article @ AutoWeek | Published 03/19/07, 1:38 pm et Click here to view Acadia's launch commercial, 'Inspiration' GMC's TV commercials traditionally have featured pickups and SUVs plowing through work sites and deserts, as gravel-voiced announcers addressed a distinctly male audience. So viewers may be startled by a commercial for GMC's new Acadia crossover. I'm wanting to buy an Envoy, but before I buy a 2007 I'd like to get a preview of what they are going to change in the redesigned 2008 models. I'd hate to buy a 2007 and then a couple months later wish I had waited for the 2008. However, I don't care for the change of the 2006 Yukon to the 2007 Yukon design. So I don't want to wait too long and not be able to order a 2007 envoy if the 2008 doesn't look very good. Can anyone help or give advice? Thanks

GM's Globe Crossers Global group of small crossovers planned Link to Original Article @ AutoWeek | Updated: 03/12/07, 1:48 pm et GENEVA - General Motors may produce a family of crossovers based on its global small-car architecture. The five-seat vehicles will be sold in North America as a GMC model but not built there. The crossovers would be smaller than the Saturn Vue and marketed under different brands in North America, Europe and possibly emerging markets such as Russia, India and China. "Variants could be configured with different exteriors for Opel, GMC and Chevrolet," GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said at the Geneva auto show. GM could build the vehicles a…

Yes it's true, I have a secret fetish. It's time I have come clean as it were. Since I was a boy of 10, I have had a desire to restore and own a GMC New Look (Fishbowl) bus. Am I alone in my desire for a bus or are there more of you out there, closeted in your love for GMC buses? Yes sad as it is, I have even collected pics of these buses over the years much like a normal person who collects pics of cars and trucks. Here is one of my pretty babies, isn't she beautiful?

Anyone know about proposed modifications for the Acadia later in this model year or in 2008? In particular, my wish list would include: (1) a back up camera to go with the navigation unit- already planned for the Enclave; (2) rain sensing wipers- I love these on my VW Jetta; (3) preservation of the 6 disc CD when navigation is ordered; (4) having a DVD slot on the rear entertainment system unit itself; (5) availability of Bluetooth; (6) availability of a tan/beige interior as an option; and (7) amber rear turning signals- far easier to see than red ones, from my perspective.

I just sent, through Edmunds, price quote requests to 4 local GMC dealers for a 2007 Sierra. We'll see if they are interested in getting back with me, and what kind of discounts they'll offer. Edmunds says I should be able to buy the truck for $600 under MSRP. The truck I spec'd: 2WD regular cab shortbed SLE1 decor package LY5 5.3L engine G80 locking differential, 3.42 ratio SLE1 Preferred Package Stealth Gray with Dark/Light Titanium interior MSRP: $26,460. I have a purchase price, a downpayment, and a monthly payment ceiling in mind. Now I'll wait to see which dealer responds with the best price. Wish me luck.

Somewhere I saw an drawing of a 2009 GMC minivan. It was included in a photo gallery of some of the NAIS vehicles. If the vehicle was produced, it would at least give GM a shot at making up some lost ground in the minivan market. Chevy and GMC should make minivans instead of Saturn, Pontiac and Buick. Lutz should have demanded that the Venture had a slight facelift and destroyed the Uplander and its boring siblings. To me the 1984 Astro was more attractive than the 2004 Uplander.

I was wondering if anybody knew why the GMC Sierra is priced higher than a compliably equipped Chevy Silverado. Based on MSRG's listed from both websites, the base price for a Chevy Silverado 1LT, 2WD extended cab is $26,860. A Sierra SLE1 3SA, 2WD extended cab lists for $27,455. Unless I am overlooking something, both trucks have the identical features and options. Another price difference is on the Max Trailering Package. Chevy list price is $1,685 and GMC's is $2,265. Both packages are identical. Personally, I prefer the looks of the GMC over the Chevy. I was leaning towards purchasing the Sierra, but Chevy appears to be a better bargain. I will have to admit tha…

Inside Info: Acadia Denali We’ve just spent the day in Silicon Valley driving GMC’s new Acadia crossover SUV, a Yukon-sized unibody powered by a 275-hp version of GM’s 3.6-liter V6 and six-speed automatic. Now GMC has the driving impressions embargoed until Sunday, so we can’t tell you what it’s like behind the wheel of this big beast quite yet. But we can tell you what we learned after conversing with one particularly cool (and loose-lipped) GM staffer: GMC will have a Denali version of the Acadia soon. It’s probably no surprise that GMC would plan an Acadia Denali—after all, the upscale Denali model of the Yukon accounts for almost 50 percent of Yukon sales. As a br…

Edmunds Evaluation: 2007 GMC Acadia We learned a few facts that surprised us while driving the all-new 2007 GMC Acadia. First, GMC is The General's second best-selling division behind Chevrolet. In fact, GMC's sales are up more than 80 percent since 1991, and it's had record sales in 11 of the last 13 years. The division has also found great success in its "Denali" branding, with those premium versions making up nearly half of all sales for every model line that offers them. GM representatives expect similar success from the upcoming Sierra Denali line. So why would a division with this much success at selling pure "trucks" want to dip its tow ratings in the crossover…
