Despite Bob Lutz touting Buick as an American Lexus. I think GM is killing the idea of Buick as a luxury brand like Lexus below Cadillac. Zeta was cancelled because, GM did not see RWD having much of a future beyond Cadillac & sports cars. When GM made the annoucement about Zeta's demise in NA, GM was falling on hard financial times again. So, GM wanted to look as if it were cutting costs. Which was true but, it also had to do with a rejection of any brand brand but, Cadillac going mainstream with RWD. This is not to say that Buick won't have RWD. It just won't be beyond halo vehicles. So, what is Buick likely to be then. Well, Buick will be the most prem…

Can someone please remind me whether GMX022, a Kappa Buick, is still a potential product? According to Ted's information, GMX020 is the Pontiac Solstice; the Saturn Sky is GMX023, and an Opel GT is GMX024. (Also, I'm curious what GMX021 may have been.) Thank you.

Just saw the November issue of Motor Trend at the bookstore, and, in a column of bits and pieces titled "MT Confidential," it was stated (in pretty much these words) that once and for all, according to their spies, the Buick rear-drive program is dead and there is nothing on the horizon. What does this mean for the future of Buick then? Does future product planning hinge on the sales of the Lucerne? Is the Buick Lambda crossover the last to debut so that, given the worst circumstances, it could be canceled?

DETROIT – General Motors’ Buick division announced manufacturer’s suggest retail prices (MSRPs) today for the all-new 2006 Lucerne entry luxury sedan with base MSRPs ranging from $26,990 to $35,990. Lucerne pricing reflects GM’s Total Value Promise, targets comparably-equipped import competitors, and should have a positive impact on comparison shopping, particularly on the Internet. "Lucerne is Buick’s most premium and elegant model,” said Buick General Manager Steve Shannon. “While not a replacement, Lucerne is contented and packaged to cover a price encompassing both LeSabre and Park Avenue while squarely taking on competitors.” With premium content, …

The CARS.COM website has been updated with the Lucerne info. Under the new car section pick any BUICK model for 2005. Once your in that model click the MODEL link at the top and then you'll be given a choice of model year 2005 or 2006. Choose 2006 and you'll then see the link to Lucerne. Have fun.

Last week, there were two Lucernes on display at the Buick Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut, just outside Hartford. Both were silver with black interior one was in a tent, and the other was on the course. They look much bigger in person.

I got the chance to compare LaCrosses at the ASIM in Pomona on Sunday and came away pleasantly surprised with the car. First, I drove the CXL (3800, base suspension) and while it was a bit floaty, it was not NEAR as bad as I thought it would be. I'd compare it to a base Camry or Avalon. The engine, however, was pretty bad. I'm no pushrod fan, but I don't ever remember the 3800 being this sluggish and unresponsive. I had to floor the gas throughout the course to get any response from the engine or tranny. Overall, however, not bad for a base car. Next was the CXS and while it didn't feel that much firmer than the base car, it lacked the float and rol…

My parents went to the Buick dealership today because my mothers LeSabre is reaching about 50k and want to trade it in before the value starts decreasing more rapidly. With the end of the year models they are eligible for the GM employee discount and there were 2 cars that it came down to. When they went there they wanted another LeSabre, I told them to get the LaCrosse but my mother didn't seem like she wanted a smaller vehicle but when she came home today she was considering one. There was a brand new 2005 LeSabre with some decent options including leather seats and dual climate control but no Driver Information Center or compass and such. I wish I had more detail…

Dorschel Buick (Rochester, NY) had a production version of a new Lucerne CXS on display last week. I'm not sure it if is still there or not. It wasn't for sale, they were using it to generate interest I guess. It was open and fully accessable. I was all over it. Very nice for a big ol' 4 door sedan. Much better looking in person than in pictures. They also had it sitting right next to a LeSabre, which just made the LeSabre look all the more crappy.

On Buick's own website, buick.com, there is a small section, "Choose Your Buick," which shows a Buick Lucerne seemingly in motion. The grille looks to me more upright than what we've see before. Does anybody see what I see?

From Detroit Free Press interview with Bob Lutz. Not sure what it means for Velite. Any interpretations? Q: Does each of GM's brands need a flag-in-the-ground car to define it like the Solstice does Pontiac? A: Arguably yes. We've got all kinds of great ideas for things we can do with iconic Hummers without getting bigger and bigger. Cadillac is a no-brainer. Someday we're going to do -- it's definitely in the product plan, but not kicked off yet -- we will do an ultra-luxury sedan involving an engine of more than eight cylinders and costing far more than any Cadillac has ever cost before, but not going into the $300,000 area. As Maybach ha…

There is this place here in Ontario called Whitby (near Oshawa plants) Well this includes Oshawa too, though not as much. I think this place is a gold mine for buick w-bodys because people know they are built right there. I think this place must have been a gold mine for years. I was very surprised today as I spent a lot of time there, and a trend that I noticed was Older people were driving LeSabres, Regals and some old people in Allures. But the thing that surprised me was that most of the people in Century's weer younger people, and some of the people in Allure's were younger. Now I really think this place has been one of gm's gold mines. Anyone ever been…

http://www.detnews.com/2005/autosinsider/0...5/01-237654.htm Detroit News Tuesday, July 5, 2005 Buick extends warranty on entire lineup By John Porretto / Associated Press DETROIT -- Trying to keep pace with high-end competitors, General Motors Corp.'s Buick brand will increase its bumper-to-bumper warranty coverage to four years or 50,000 miles on all 2006 models, up from three years or 36,000 miles, the head of the division said. GM planned to inform dealers of the enhancement Tuesday. In addition to the expanded warranty, Buick will make the OnStar in-vehicle communications system standard on all models beginning in 2006 as well. The new …
