2008 Buick Enclave CXL AWD The Highs: Serene driving environment, creamy ride, sexy sheetmetal, gorgeous interior. The Lows: Tepid power-to-weight ratio, modest towing capacity, so-so braking. The family champ in ride quality is also a real looker. BY TONY SWAN, PHOTOGRAPHY BY AARON KILEY October 2007 A New York Times columnist recently observed that the key to restoring Big Three fortunes lay in creating vehicles with compelling eye appeal—vehicles that people would actually want to buy. This dazzling insight came long after Buick had unveiled its Enclave crossover at the ’06 Detroit show, but the Enclave does seem to vindicate the thesis. It’s the first Buick in re…

Buick ties Lexus for No. 1 in car reliability Survey finds Detroit brands making headway against Japanese competitors August 9 2007: 9:57 AM EDT | Link to Original Article @ CNNMoney NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- For the first time in 12 years, Toyota's Lexus luxury brand has to share its top rank in J.D. Power and Associates' annual Vehicle Dependability Study. And it has to share it with an American car. General Motors' Buick brand tied Lexus in the study, which measures the number of problems owners experience with their cars after three years of ownership. Following Lexus and Buick in the rankings were GM's Cadillac luxury brand, Ford's Mercury brand and Honda's Ho…

On July 31st my salesman sent me an e-mail and said the car I ordered (LaCrosse Super) was built last week at the #2 Oshawa assembly plant and should arrive any day. Well it still hasn't. He gave me a copy of the build order. I'm wondering if there was any way I could check online to see if the car has left the plant yet and is in transit. I know this sounds ridiculous, but I'm getting a little worried about it. Thanks.

Can Future Buicks Play With Lexus? According to Automotive News, the General sees the writing on the wall and intends to go global with the new look of Buick, originally shown at the Shanghai Motor Show in the shape of the Riviera concept. I purchased a 2007 Buick Lucerne with 17500 miles a couple of months ago. It is a CXL with the 3.8 engine. The car has developed an annoying hesitation when driving at 40-50 mph. The car hesitates/pings/groans unless you give it a bit more gas to turn off the overdrive. The problem is most noticable when using 87 octane gas but it still present when running 93 octane. I've run Techron through the system thinking perhaps the injectors were dirty but that didn't help. The check engine light is not on. To make matters worse the gas peddle vibrates as the car hesitates. I don't notice the problem when driving around town or when on the highway at 65+ mph. I'…

How Sweet it is! An age-old battle for Buick June 15, 2007 The 2008 Buick Enclave with 20-inch wheel. CHICAGO - When General Motors announced plans three years ago to revive its Buick brand with a string of new models aimed at younger buyers, it was to reduce the average owner's age of 63, among the oldest in the industry. Today, the average Buick buyer is 65, according to the Power Information Network, the data-gathering unit of J.D. Power and Associates. That is the oldest and 19 years senior to the industry average. Its image as a geriatric brand continues to haunt Buick despite years of fighting against it. In the 1980s, for example, Buick offered turbo…

I hope this is a change that will take place across the model lines! Get rid of the alphanumeric designations for Pontiac and Cadillac. I don't think the name changes have helped GM. It takes more money to advertise an unfamiliar model. HOW SWEET IT IS! I hope GM doesn't change their mind and go back to Lacrosse!! When the Japanese have a dud, they don't change the name..they change the styling or other attributes about the car. Don't expect Altima, Accord, Camry, Civic or Corolla to change names anytime soon. Maybe Cavalier and Grand Am needed a name change. But the other models? Nah. Is the Cobalt selling any better than the Cav? Colorado selling any better than…

Brown is the new Buick Enclave's cocoa metallic could be new color of luxury Sharon Terlep | The Detroit News Once synonymous with grit and grime, brown has come to embody something entirely different for a generation of Starbucks-obsessed consumers. Something luxurious, tasty even. A little like a latte. At least that's the thinking behind General Motors Corp.'s decision to launch one of its most critical new vehicles -- the Buick Enclave crossover -- in a brunette hue called cocoa metallic. Brown rides haven't been hip since the 1970s. But GM is banking on a brown renaissance, already under way in the worlds of fashion and interior design, to take hold in the auto…

Custom Skylark Found in Sarasota It's 1953 Again as One-Off Buick Skylark Convertible Surfaces Link to Original Article @ Edmunds SARASOTA, Fla. — It dawned slowly on collector and restorer Eugene Cohen: The 1953 Buick Skylark convertible he was working on was a one-of-a-kind. He already knew the car was one of only 1,690 built by GM, but details found on none of those other Skylarks made him realize this one was built as a showcar — or as a special treat for some VIP or employee of Buick. Cohen said the "general consensus among retired GM executives...at vintage-car meets" is that it was probably an auto show display model. The big tipoff was the blank trim and paint…

Well my wife has been whispering in my ear that she wants a new SUV to replace the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox LT AWD that she drives. SHANGHAI, China — General Motors will launch a new Buick Skylark compact in China in 2009 that could be exported to the U.S. as a 2010 model. GM: Buick ads to downplay Tiger Woods; golfer to tout OnStar Link to Original Article @ The Detroit News Tiger Woods will end his eight-year stint as the main spokesman for General Motors Corp.'s Buick division, the automaker said today. Instead, the golf phenomenon will help tout the OnStar roadside assistance program, which GM has heavily promoted in recent years. The switch was prompted by a desire to refocus Buick marketing on the product, the company said. "We don't want a celebrity at the core of any brand. We want the message on Buick to be about Buick," said Mark LaNeve. But, he said, GM still wants to capitalize on Woods' star appeal. The golfer still will…

In today's Detroit Free Press, Katie Merx writes some very positive things about the Buick Enclave, and offers a couple of interesting quotes from Bob Lutz. Mr. Lutz states, "The future of Buick does not hinge on the success of the Enclave." Rather, he said, to return Buick to its historic role as GM's "near-luxury brand" in the United States, it must continue to offer vehicles in that same vein. "There will never again be a 'cheap Buick,'" Lutz said. "They will never again be priced down with Chevrolet. But they will offer outstanding value for the price asked." I just got done with a rental Lucerne. Here is what I had and what I noted. The car was brand new and only had 3,000 miles. Though a base model it was nicely optioned and if stickered at $26K or 27K would have been a good car for an older driver. Road manners while not sporting was very managable and comfortable. It handeled Southern Californias caynon roads and highways just fine. I even noted with the 80-90 MPH speeds on the high way it still managed 24 MPG. The one major complaint I would have is the 3800 Series III should have never been used in this car. The rest of the car is just more refined even in base form for a engine of this nature. I like the 380…

An article by Rick Popely and Jim Mateja in today's Chicago Tribune, "Age-old battle for Buick: Models aimed at younger buyers haven't helped the venerable GM brand reverse a long trend of its buyers being among the oldest in the auto industry -- at 65, nearly 20 years above the average," has some interesting facts. And it also claims that "Global Insight forecasts that a smaller crossover, a version of the Saturn Vue, will arrive in 2008. In 2009, the LaCrosse is expected to be redesigned and renamed Regal, bringing back a popular nameplate. The front-wheel-drive Lucerne could be replaced by a larger rear-drive sedan in 2010, perhaps as the Riviera." Click here for the…

2008 Buick Park Avenue Might Come Stateside! Reaction to the Chinese Park Avenue has made GM reconsider bringing the Park Avenue over to the US. The original plan was to do a full reskin on the car a la Enclave, however GM is now planning to bring the Chinese Park Avenue to America as early as Spring of next year. Built in Australia, their will be a decontented base model starting at around $40k, excluding the luxury features of the top end model. The ultra-luxury model will be offered, with all the features of the Park Avenue sold in China. Finally, GM will have a true luxury car, and suprisingly, it will come from Buick. Base engine for the Park Avenue is rumored…

Happy birthday to my Regal! It turns 15 today. I bought it as my first brand new car while I was in grad school (though it was garaged at my parents' house 2,000 miles away) and the powertrain is original. It was factory-ordered. When I parked it last night, the odometer read 235,000.1. So, I'm less than 15,000 miles away from the quarter million mark I'm shooting for. Should I keep striving for it? I'll still get my new car (W-body) anytime between fall of 2007 and spring of 2008, and keep the Regal to try to hit that milestone!

I read in a 2007 Lucerne promo of the "NEW DOUBLE ISOLATED” powertrain mounting system. Does anyone know whether this is different/better than they used in 2006? My own experience with my 2006 CX is that the engine noise isolation is not as good as it could be, and not as good as it was in my previous 1999 LeSabre. Otherwise, it's a nice, quiet car, especially after the source of an annoying vibration under acceleration was found & corrected by the dealer. If better mounts are now available, I'd be interested in retrofitting them to my 2006, if that's possible.

Buick here in America is a brand of declining sales, lackluster product (excluding Enclave) and an aging customer base. Buick China: A thriving, growing brand with a wide audience and successful, competent product. Many have legitimately complained about the lack of such support and backing in the form excellent product being offered here in the USA. This is all about to change. Enclave is the start of great things for the Buick brand. GM hasn’t given up; Buick is a very important part of the new GM going forward. This key fob excellently demonstrates what GM intends to take Buick; this type of elegance and luxury will become the norm at Buick as it moves upmarket. …

Buick Riviera Concept Revealed Images have leaked online of the new Buick Riviera concept, which is to be revealed at the Shanghai auto show this week. Designed at the GM Pan Asia Technical Center, the car is yet another stylish Buick designed by GM's China design team. The Riviera is supposed to showcase Buick's forthcoming global design language for Buick, and the coupe will tour the world after the Shanghai show closes. Unfortunately, there aren't any major American autoshows left, leaving GM without a place to properly showcase such a concept in the US until late this year. How is everyone feeling about their local BPG dealership? Mine is in Hickory, North Carolina. The old stand-alone BPG was sold to the local Chevrolet dealership and man, has it gone down hill, especially on customer service. I've been working with one of their sales reps, the "Corvette Specialist," and he runs hot and cold. No real personal attention, no feeling of being somewhere special like the old Buick dealerships. At first we thought it had to be a mistake. General Motors is already paying customers to take the 2008 Buick Enclave off their hands? It's not even on dealer lots yet, but Automotive News reports Buick is offering $1,000 "Conquest Bonus Cash" and 4.9% financing available on the $32k+ CUV. Though the "Conquest Cash" is intended to draw non-GM-driving customers away from the competition, no matter the name, rebates on brand new vehicles are obvious admissions of overpricing that only enforce car shoppers' addiction to cash-back offers. If the Enclave performs as well and is as reliable as it is gorgeous, it shouldn't need any incentives. On the other hand, a drop-dea…

With its range of advanced technologies and high-grade amenities, not to mention a stylish design that conveys a sense of power and passion, it is representative of traditional American luxury sedans. I recently bought a Lucerne CX, believing quality/luxury equate to QUIET, and buying into the QUIET-TUNING hype – although it’s indeed quiet on the highway, I am disappointed that it is not nearly as quiet in stop/go city driving as my previous 1999 LeSabre Ltd – the CX has poor engine noise isolation & annoying drive train shudder/growl under startup acceleration conditions - dealer improved situation by replacing one engine mount (defective design) & realigning engine to mounts, but engine noise isolation still not acceptable - wind/road noise isolation good, but 2 out of 3 not good enough. Is there ANY way I can get better engine noise isolation? I'd be willing…

Guys take a look at this teaser, I know I can't read much of this language but I couldn't get the page to work in english. Look at this puppy it is going to be sweet, wish we would get this puppy state-side. Looks like a worthy replacement for the popular yet out-dated Buick Royuam, I am so glad I am the first to find it! Click the link! http://www.buick.com.cn/parkavenue/

Has changing the name from Lesabre to Lucerne improved sales? And Lucerne also replaces Park Avenue. Ditto to Lacrosse replacing Century and Regal. Could we say that familiar nameplates require less money marketing the product? How about following the Taurus and change back to old beloved nameplates? Lacrosse replacement becomes Century. Lucerne (goofy French sounding name) becomes LeSabre.

Made in China General Motors' next LaCrosse sedan is being designed right now … in China. That says a lot about GM, a lot about China, and even more about the future of creativity. From: Issue 114 | April 2007 | Page 70 | By: Fara Warner | Photographs By: Andrew Rowat Joe Qiu doesn't own a car. He doesn't even have a driver's license. His favorite vehicle, actually, is a go-kart with a top speed of 75 miles per hour. His distressed leather bomber jacket, which he rarely takes off, betrays his fascination with airplanes and all things military. His jeans, the hems unfashionably turned up, and a brushlike crewcut are pure 21st-century China. His TAG Heuer watch: a n…

I know there are people who bash GM for selling any of it's vehicles to rental car companies, as if that is the only way they could sell their vehicles, but I think it's a good marketing tool in the sense that you can really find out about a car when you take it on a 5 day test drive. My wife and I rented a V8 Lucerne a couple of weeks ago and we both fell in love with it. Even my wife had sort of bought into the perception gap thing that Buicks were for "old people". But after spending quite a bit of time in it, she began to realize how great the car really is. Not only is it really gorgeous on the exterior, but it's like a vault when you're cruising at 85 down th…

This sounds suspicious. First, since when have dealers had the power to nix new product (and which Buick dealers)? Second, how and who leaked this story? And for what purpose? As a replacement for Lucerne (if priced similarly), why wouldn't Buick dealers want it? http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/19/wha-bui...-a-rwd-vehicle/

It's not much but here's what Buick GM Steve Shannon said yesterday Shannon admitted that he'd like to see a return of the Riviera nameplate on a "halo" model based on the popular Velite concept car of 2004 (pictured above), but that is a low priority at the moment.

I don't know about you, but it seems that Buick did somewhat crush their own business by nixing the Century, LeSabre, Regal, and Park Avenue. They really should bring them back...maybe with a more sleek looking exterior? I have a 1997 Century and I love my boat!

Buick: A brand rechanneled Automotive News / August 21, 2006 - 6:00 am LaCrosse: Buick plans to offer a 5.3-liter V-8 for the 2007 model year. A redesign is expected for the 2010 model year, possibly on General Motors' front-wheel-drive Epsilon 2 architecture. To reduce costs, all vehicles developed on Epsilon 2 (Chevrolet and Opel, for example) will be engineered by GM Europe in Ruesselsheim, Germany. U.S. operations are to provide specifications for such things as ride and handling. Styling will be determined by the region that will market the car. The LaCrosse will be styled by GM North America. Powertrains will differ by region. Lucerne: A rear-wheel-drive Luc…

I got this from another website: Can any dealers please confirm? LaCrosse Super WAS at the dealer meeting in Vegas last weekend. It DID look like the China version (similar, imagine with oval grill like lucerne). It IS due out next summer, only in the CXS version which will come with the same V8 as the Impala SS. The 2008 CXL and CX *should* have the new front end as well, making the LaCrosse look more like the Lucerne.

Earlier in the year C&G uncovered images of a yet to be seen Buick model that we were unsure of its origin. However with the latest news on a new "Super" line of Buicks set to be released the obvious became clear. We've found the new face of the LaCrosse. We expect this FWD, V8 LaCrosse to debut late in '07 with the entire line-up featuring this new grille and facia look in '08. When referring to this story please do NOT copy & paste the information instead LINK TO this story! Very Special Thanks to CSpec for the information provided above!

Buick Wants to Bring in the Black Guys If more blacks start driving Buicks it could help the brand overcome its biggest problem: the perception that it is a boring, old person's car. That's the view of Steve Shannon, Buick's general manager. He says blacks are the most loyal Buick customers and he wants more of them. Not only do blacks of all ages buy a lot of cars, he says that young blacks, particularly athletes and hip-hop artists, help define urban hipness. Autoweek

I stumbled across the website earlier today. I found it encouraging that the Enclave was on display at the autoshow. It's one step closer to Buick-China & Buick-US consolidating line-ups. http://autoshow.shanghaigm.com/ Click on one of the three pics (center-left) to activate the interactive autoshow floor and browse through the cars that were on display. I'm looking forward to 2007's show. I hope to see Holden and possibly the spy-pic'd Buick Royaum replacement return to China.

LaCrosse tweaked after rare one-star rating Harry Stoffer | Link to Original Article @ Automotive News | February 13, 2007 - 3:01 pm WASHINGTON - General Motors has altered the trim on the inside of the driver's door of the 2007 Buick LaCrosse because the car earned the lowest possible score in a government side-impact crash test. "We were surprised and disappointed" with the one-star rating, GM spokesman Alan Adler said. GM made the midmodel-year change in the door trim of cars on the assembly line last month, Adler said. The company will ask that the car be retested, he said. But for the moment, the one-star rating remains in the information made available to c…

So, Garmin has a new commercial in which the guy is driving a Lucerne... with a Garmin GPS mounted on top of his dash. I was amused that although the car offers two forms of navigation for him to choose from, he's using a Garmin. Yes, I know it's a commercial. Was just amused.

GM will end production of Buick Rainier Division down to handful of models February 7, 2007 Detroit Press BY GREG BENSINGER BLOOMBERG NEWS General Motors Corp. will end production of the Buick Rainier SUV in the second quarter to trim the division's product line and spend more to develop and sell its remaining models. The Rainier represents about 2.5% of the daily output at GM's Moraine, Ohio, plant, the only place it's made, spokesman Tom Wickham said Tuesday. It isn't clear yet what effect the change might have on employment, he said. Advertisement GM CEO Rick Wagoner is paring Buick to three or four models, about half as many as in 2005. The world's largest au…

I was wondering if the 0% financing is a cyclical thing, where it happens at the same time(s) of year every year? I think I recall seeing lots of commercials for this around the 4th of July and Labor Day last year. I also just got a notice in the mail that I can get another $750 bonus earnings to be used alongside my GM extended family card earnings. By the sounds of the brochure they sent, I can use all of this in addition to special financing rates. But the offer ends on Feb 28th. Currently Buick is only offering 4.9% or cash back. I would much rather have the 0.0% financing. Does anyone know if there are specific times of year they offer this? Looking to …

The Pontiac Grand Prix and Buick Regal/LaCrosse have shared the same platform for 20 years. With the SWB Zeta G8 replacing the GP. The LaCrosse will likely be replaced by a SWB Zeta as well. Naturally the LWB Zeta would replace the Lucerne. The best part is that both Zetas could be here in 18 months. I can't wait! If anybody has proof that my speculation is correct. PLEASE! Post it!

Then select the link for change YEAR. Select 2008 and then you'll see the Enclave link. I wonder how some decisions are made. The Outlook is available in dark grey but not metallic white (8 colors in total), the Acadia has both dark grey and metallic white (9 colors), the Enclave is available in metallic white but not dark grey (8 colors) . . .
