December 21, 2011 black-knight CheersandGears.com It was only last week that Buick offered us the first glimpse of their upcoming small crossover, the Encore, that's set to debut at the Detroit Auto Show this January. But apparently that one image wasn't enough of the Encore for Buick to reveal to world. So how did Buick decide to follow up the Encore's first act? By taking the show over to Facebook where, section by section, a full image of the new CUV would be totally revealed by January 10th. It still doesn't show much right now, but it's barely enough to sort of see that it won't be in anyway related to the Chevrolet Equinox or the old Saturn Vue. Update: Anothe…

Last month, Buick introduced a new crossover for China called the Envision. This new crossover would fit between the Encore and Enclave models Now there have been murmurs of whether or not the Envision would be coming to the U.S. or not. According to Edmunds, the Envision is making the trip to the U.S. next year. According to a insider, the Envision will go sale in the third quarter of 2015. There is talk of a mild-hybrid model for the U.S. market. When asked, Duncan Aldred, vice president of Buick-GMC sales said nothing has been confirmed at the moment. But went onto say that the brand is considering it. Source: Edmunds William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers &…

Buick has a new crossover in China. Meet the Envision, which will sit between the Encore and Enclave crossovers. The new midsize model features elements of the Encore and LaCrosse with an oversized grille, faux hood vents, distinctive headlights, and chrome trim running along the rear hatch. Inside is Buick's wraparound dash with a mix of leather, wood, and metal throughout. There's a noise-canceling system in the vehicle to provide a quiet ride, along with a eight-inch touchscreen for infotainment duties. Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with 256 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. This is paired up to a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. Bu…

I have one as a rental this week... man what a great car. Feels solid like driving a bank vault without the extremely heavy feeling. Handling is great and it feels very quick too. rushing to work this morning and look down... oppsie... I'm doing 90. Not happy with the gauges... either go with all physical gauges or all TFT screen gauges... but not both. 4 stars... would drive again.

The Buick lineup is currently has two crossover, the small Encore and the large Enclave. There's a large gap for midsize crossover to fill that gap and Buick appears to being doing just that. Well for China at least. Buick has revealed a teaser for the upcoming Envision Crossover lwhich happens to be cloaked and parked in between the Encore and Enclave. The brand says the model was inspired by the Envision concept and will feature "dynamic and assertive styling." The Envision Crossover will debut sometime later this year in China. No word if this model will go to the U.S. or not. Source: Buick William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gears. He can be reached a…

It looks a refresh is coming soon to the Buick Verano. A fresh set of spy shots were released this week showing a camoflaged mule undergoing some testing in Germany. Much like the Regal, the Verano is a Opel/Vauxhall vehicle (the Astra sedan in this case) with some Buick clothing. Judging from the photos, it looks like Verano will get some more Astra design cues, most notable in the headlights and taillights. But there will still be a number of Buick design cues like the waterfall grille. The refreshed Verano is expected to arrive next year. A coworker's 50k Impala is in the shop (oil and water leaks) so the dealership (my old dealer group actually) gave a new Regal loaner. (disclaimer, they have recently gotten like 10 new 13's that aren't going anywhere any time soon). She is impressed with the car, the leather is 'silky smooth'. It's 'smaller than the Impala though'. Otherwise it's apparently just a nice car. We know the Regals lack some real bling and wow. I like Regals a lot. I think a big problem is it is not much bigger than a Verano, but it sells at a near LaCrosse price. Malibu Turbo is arguably the same car with the possibility for a better price. Buick made some great improvements for 20…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 29, 2013 One of the big things that we have been wondering since the introduction of the Buick Regal GS is if the Regal would be the only model in Buick's lineup to have a GS model or could there be more. According to Car and Driver, there might be more GS models. Ed Welburn, General Motors’ vice president of global design tells Car and Driver that more GS models could be on the way to help bolster Buick's performance cred. The most likely candidates for this would be the Verano and LaCrosse. Source: Car and Driver William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gears. He can be reached at william.maley@chee…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com October 19, 2013 A new report from Edmunds shines some light on what Buick possibly has in store powertrain-wise for some of their vehicles. A sources says that Buick is planning on offering a diesel engine in their lineup. This is due to Buick and Opel becoming more aligned. Also, diesels have gained more ground in the U.S. thanks to their ability to provide large fuel economy numbers without a massive hit on performance. The source doesn't say which vehicle will get the diesel engine, but Edmunds speculates it will be the Verano since it's closely related to the Chevrolet Cruze which offers a diesel engine. Another s…

I owned Buick's all my life. Always traded them in for new models every two or three years. Recently I moved on to something else when they did away with the LeSabre. Went to the Buick garage last week to have "Auto Butler" applied to my present car TCH and the service person took me to work in a new Lacrosse. I was shocked trying to enter the car. I practically knocked my head off on the roof because it was so extremely low. If this is what Buick classifies as their big car then I shall never own another Buick. Getting out was just as hard without knocking off the top of my head. Rise the roof level so people can enter and exit the car without a headache!

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 14, 2013 Earlier this year, General Motors CEO Dan Akerson said that if the Opel Adam and Cascada convertible were sold in the U.S., that it "would help Buick in this market and in China in terms of demographics." Since then, rumors and speculation have been flying on whether either one of these models would appear in the U.S. This week, we reported that Opel Adam is under consideration for the U.S. But it will likely not come until the next-generation model is launched if it is given the green light. Now, we have an update on the Opel Cascada. Insiders told Edmunds this week that the Opel Cascada becoming a …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 11, 2013 Since the Opel Adam went on sale earlier this year, many wished for the Adam to come to the U.S. as a Buick. Those wishes could become reality. "We are looking at it. Nothing is decided. But it's an example of some of the Opel product being used elsewhere in the world," said Opel Chairman Karl-Thomas Neumann. If the green light is given for Buick to get the Adam, don't expect it to come until the first redesign. The current model doesn't meet U.S. safety and other regulatory requirements. "We have to work on the car. That's one of the issues that we have to look at," said Neumann. Editor's Note: Ba…

In the 2010-Present LaCrosse, the Door Unlock is on the center console. Holding unlock does not unlock the trunk as it did in the previous generation LaCrosse. I find it ridiculous there's no way to unlock the trunk from the inside of the car. If I have someone running to the car in the rain with their hands full, I have to get out of the car to open the trunk for them and get wet myself, OR shut the car off to use the fob (the trunk release doesn't work on the fob if the car is running). Why would GM make it impossible to open the trunk from inside the car while the car is running and parked? Secondly, I use a USB flash drive to store music and play back in the car.…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com June 13, 2013 Buick has a small crossover in the form of the Encore and large crossover with the Enclave. However someone who is looking for something in the middle with a Buick badge will be sorely disappointed. That looks to be changing as new spy shots show a new midsize Buick crossover. Supposedly called the Anthem, this new Buick crossover will be the sister vehicle to the next-generation Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain. The trio will use utlize GM's Delta platform. We can't tell much from the shots aside the Buick waterfall grille and the driver giving the ole one finger salute. We'll be keeping an eye on this …

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com May 6, 2013 Buick has been one of the success stories since General Motors came out of bankruptcy a few years ago. The tri-shield brand has seen its sales on the up and up for the past few years thanks to vehicles such as the Enclave, LaCrosse, and Verano. Now GM's North American President, Mark Reuss tells Automotive News that Buick deserves something special. "We've very carefully built Buick back to a brand that has respect. Something special for Buick, I think, is really needed for the next phase of where that brand is going," Reuss said. Reuss went onto say that Buick is ready for an entry "that's very special, …

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com February 25, 2013 Remember when Buick and GMC announced they would introducing nine new models over the next twelve months. Two of those have been caught by a spy photographer. First up is the 2014 Buick LaCrosse. The mule caught in the shots has a larger front grille and a set of LED accents around the headlights. Not so obvious in the shots is the amount of camo in the interior of the mule, meaning extensive changes are coming. Then there is the 2014 Buick Regal. Much like the shots of the Opel and Vauxhall Insignia we reported on earlier this year, the Regal will get a revised front end. More extensive changes wil…

After checking their website, I trekked into my local Buick/GMC dealer to check out the new 2013 Encore. It made me all googly-eyed... it's that cool, imo. In Brilliant Blue with Ebony cloth, it was a FWD Convenience model with the 5-spoke wheels. Very stylish. A bit nose-heavy in design, and tiny as heck, with big looking wheels (18" standard), it certainly has an attitude in its stance, with a beautiful interior. And it is not as "old" as it seemed in photos. How can it be described? Jaunty AND authoritative, even with its diminutive stature... it is a one-of-a-kind vehicle. Saleskid says it will be a 3-month wait for a factory order because it is built in Korea…

Built during the mid to late eighties, these three were some of quickest vehicles on the market thanks to a 3.8L turbo V6 and didn't share the old person image that the other Buicks had. Now, the Grand National, T-Type, and GNX could be making a return to the Buick lineup. Inside Line has learned from a 'reliable source' that GM is planning to resurrect the three nameplates onto a new RWD sedan. The sedan will use the Alpha RWD platform and be around the same size as the Cadillac ATS. The sedans will also share steering, brakes and suspension from the ATS. The…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 30, 2012 Last year, a base Buick Regal started at $27,055. For 2013, the base Regal will now start at $29,015, a jump of almost $2,000. Why the $2,000 increase? Well, the Regal will be following in the LaCrosse's footsteps and offer the eAssist powertrain as standard equipment. eAssist was a $2,000 option on the Regal for 2012 and it has been rolled into pricetag. eAssist will improve the base Regal's fuel economy from 19 City/31 Highway to 25 City/36 Highway. Found an open Verano today on a Buick lot. Again, blown away at how nice it is inside. Really still love the Regal more, but the Verano is 92% the size and such, just a little more different and tidy...... not as pricey..... I wonder how much the Verano launch is eating up Regals. I know Buick is trying to move Regal up the ladder with more kit and better powertrains, but the cars side by side are damn near the same size, and the Regal is not too much bigger inside either. I know the old size is everything adage is dying in this market some, but at under 25g, a base Verano is damn nice, why spend 30 on a Regal?

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 12, 2012 The Buick Verano. A compact that has left many (including your's truly) very smitten with it. The only real complaint that has been brought up is a more powerful engine. Well, Buick has answered the call with the new 2013 Verano Turbo. Under the hood lies a potent 2.0L DI turbocharged Ecotec inline-four delivering 250 HP and 260 lb-ft torque going through either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. This is second exciting Buick following the Regal GS introduced earlier this year. Think of the last time there was two exciting Buicks, let alone one. Blake Noble Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 9th, 2012 For a span of almost four decades, Buick’s classic Riviera models brought critical acclaim to one of GM’s oldest marques. Arguably GM’s first real success at building a “personal luxury car,” the Riviera was a “best-of” showcase for Buick offering class-competitive styling, luxury and technology. While the Riviera name has been previously used on a concept car introduced for the 2007 Shanghai Auto Show, it hasn’t been applied to a production model since the last Riviera was built in 1999. Now, according to GM enthusiast website GM Inside News, there is the potential for a Riviera revival. Last week, on Ma…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com February 7, 2012 Today, Buick announced some powertrain changes for the 2013 Regal. First, the 2013 Regal will bid adieu to the base 2.4L four-cylinder and make the Regal eAssist the base. Also, the Regal GS gains an optional six-speed automatic transmission. The automatic is designed to broaden the appeal of the Regal GS. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com June 19, 2012 General Motors has trademarked another old nameplate, this time from Buick. Left Lane News reports that General Motors filled a trademark application on June 5th for Electra. No other details were revealed in the filling. Electra was a Buick nameplate introduced back in 1959 to replace the Roadmaster and Limited models. The nameplate would last till 1990. So why is General Motors trademarking Electra? Left Lane has two theories. Theory one is a flagship sedan that will use the LWB Epsilon II platform as a base. Using the Electra nameplate makes sense because the name was used for Buick flagships. Let's see if I can narrow these down clearly and consisely for ya: 2009 Buick Lucerne CXL Options include: heated/cooled seats, harmon/kardon radio, heated wood steering wheel, wood shift knob, bluetooth, chromed 17" wheels. It's a 2009 so it has the 3900, 4-automatic. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 15, 2012 Despite having one of the freshest lineups in the industry, Buick has seen its sales slip. G. Noble Editor/Reporter CheersandGears.com March 1, 2012 Since Buick reintroduced the Regal to the North American market back in 2010, there has been some enthusiasm for the return of the big-daddy GNX, the famous performance car of the ‘80s which was based around the then-current Regal. Stopped by a Buick place today and touched a Verano. Didn't like the color.....red/gray. But the car is sharp. Looks like a larger car, and looks expensive. Parked next to a LaCrosse and Regal in total harmony. The Regal has a more avante garde look, but the Verano does have the looks to sell. Indeed. Makes the Focus look cheap and tawdry. Through the window, the interior looked consistent in quality to the Regal and the seats and dash look great. All the controls look really similar to the Regal's. Front seat looks spacious, rear looks tight for leg room. Seats looks very well sculpted. MPG on sticker of course is not eye popping, but sensible buyers will com…

So yesterday I leased a Buick Regal. It doesn't arrive until most likely Tuesday. It's black onyx and black leather interior. I got the n/a version and the automatic, although I did drive the turbo stick, it was too expensive. Can't wait for it to arrive.

It's been about six years since GM introduced the Lambdas (Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Terrain, and Saturn Outlook) to the world and they're beginning to get long in the tooth. GM is quietly working on next generation of these models and some spy shots have come out of Buick Enclave with added camoflage. The pictures show the Enclave will be retaining it's large size as the current model. Also, the front end gets a new grill with longer, thinner grille slats spaced further out. The back end doesn't show any changes thanks to all of the camouflage. Source: Inside Line View full article

Buick is going a different route with their showing at the LA Auto Show next week. Instead of going all out with a swoopy, futuristic design that can run on unicorn farts, they're showing a plush version of the Buick LaCrosse, called the LaCrosse GL. On the outside, Buick has dressed the GL in a luscious red complimented by brushed and tinted chrome on the grill, door handles, and rear deck. The satin-finished twenty-inch wheels borrowed from the Regal GS finish the exterior. Inside, Buick fitted French-stitched leather in contrasting dark cocoa brown and caramel chocochino for the doors, dash, and seats. The headliner is finished in a chocochino suede while the dash, s…

Review can be found here: http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1067591_2012-buick-verano-first-drive If you blow up the images on the 2nd page gallery and look closely you will get a few good pictures of the cloth/leatherette combo. Looks to be a high quality execution, not poorly executed or sore thumb out of place like I had feared it might be.

Regal with eAssist will start at $29,530, and Regal GS will start at $35,310; both prices include $860 in destination charges. The eAssist system is a $2,000 option on the Regal base model, mated to a 2.4L Ecotec engine. Buick will continue to offer the base model …

Just checked out the order guide and it looks like the new 3.6L will be rated at 303 hp [226.04 kW] @ 6800 and Torque 264 lb-ft. [356.40 N-m] @ 5300 for the front wheel drive model--a nice bump over its predecessor. The AWD model is still listed as TBD. Might be a fuel economy jump as well. The same engine and transmission setup in the Impala is rated 18/30 city/highway. And I just noticed the 2.4L with eAssist only has a 15.7 gallon tank... was hoping they'd stay with the normal 18 gallon (19 on AWD) tanks and have a long range. EDIT: Link to the Order Guide

There's a set of spy shots of a Regal wagon floating around the 'net, and it looks good. Not sure if I'm a fan of the "no rear bumper" look, though, as it puts the liftgate right out there, very vulnerable to damage in even a very minor rear end collision... sort of like a current CR-V. I'd love to see a chop of the white Regal wagon with woodgrain sides and whitewalls, just for old times' sake. Is anyone game?

Buick Regal GS Gets Rated William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 15, 2011 The time has come; Buick has released the final numbers for the Regal GS due out later this year and they are impressive. The Regal GS is rated at 270 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque. That will propel the European-derived sedan from 0-60 in 6.7 seconds according to GM. “The Regal GS 2.0L turbo delivers the highest specific output of any production engine GM has ever offered, and at 135 hp per liter is the most power dense engine ever certified by SAE. We’ve been combining direct injection and variable valve timing with boosted engines since 2006, and there’s no questio…

So I've been thinking...Since the engine between the Buick LaCrosse V6 and the Camaro V6 are the same (LLT I believe), then wouldn't it be sweet to incorporate a supercharger into the LaCrosse's performance? Now before you going flaming me, I'm just thinking out loud here...packaging would likely need to change to ensure a fit within the engine bay, and the cost would be nothing to laugh at. But just think about it for a second... A supercharged 2012 Buick LaCrosse Currently 303 HP, could get well over 400 from a S/C application 4 doors for all your friends and a roomy trunk for the gear. AWD to keep you stable and give one hell of a launch control. A total sleep…

I have been looking for a replacement for my 1999 Park Avenue Ultra (the flagship of its day) and according to my local dealer, the Enclave is now considered the flagship for Buick. I really really like the Enclave, but why is a large Lambda crossover considered a flagship? More importantly, why can't Buick get a car that can properly compete with that NEW 2011 Chrysler 300 (or should that be a flagship Cadillac too?)? Indeed, why can't Buick and/or Cadillac get an upgraded version of the Hyundai Genesis as a flagship? Any thoughts? FWD crossovers do NOT a flagship make, IMHO.

According to Automotive News, Encore: The "Baby Enclave" compact crossover, tentatively called the Encore, will arrive in the 2013 model year. The five-seater is built on the Delta compact-car platform. Why use the Delta platform (which is on the Chevy Cruze) rather than Theta-Epsilon (which is a second-generation SRX)? I thought Buick would be a premium marque, not a Chevy clone. I could understand if the next-gen Equinox and Terrain go to Delta 2, but why a Buick?

I like the Regal, and I would even add the Wagon to Buick. But to me it doesn't have the Fine details Lacrosse and Enclave have. The Regal design has much more in common with Saturns. I also think GME has there own thing going on. While Buick is central to GMAP. I am a huge fan of The Lacrosse design. And the 2 main designers Justin Thompson, and Richard Duff are with GMAP now. Duff With Patac, and Thompson back at Holden. And Gmap has done some really nice Buick concepts. The IMO Gorgeous Riv concept GMAP also has Both RWD/AWD and FWD/AWD platforms to build on. Either with an on demand AWD option would work. Where do you think would produce a Better, m…

i bought a 08 Lucerne several months ago. Once in a while the compass goes crazy, flipping between headings. Then, suddenly settles down and becomes accurate. Anyone else have this problem and any idea what might cause this? I'm wondering if things like high voltage power lines might cause a magnetic disturbance. Thanks for any thoughts you may have.

Buick Introduces the 2012 Verano Buick's Third New Model in Two Years Drew Dowdell - January 6th, 2011 - CheersandGears.com In late 2011, the Verano compact luxury sedan will join the new Regal, Lacrosse and Enclave in Buick's re-energized lineup. The Verano will be revealed at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Monday. Powered by GM's venerable 2.4L Ecotec 4-cylinder and six-speed automatic transmission, the Verano will offer 177hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. This combination will offer 31mpg highway and 0-60 performance of about 8.0 seconds. Plans are in the works to offer a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine at a later date. Available interior …

I just read a couple of reviews of the new Buick Regal. Apparently GM invited journalists over to the Nurburgring to test drive it. There are some very, very positive comments on it that really have my hopes up for this car. For the full stories, click here: Motor Trend and here: Automobile Magazine Examples from Motor Trend: Examples from Automobile magazine: I really liked both our Saab 9-3 and our Saturn Aura and since this car is basically a mix of the two, it make sense that I really like it. I just hope GM launches this thing with a higher level of quality than they usually do.

Up front I have nothing solid here and this is only a small hint that something may be happening. This post is more to advise all to keep their eyes open nothing more. Sorry I do not have the full details. But I have herd from to unrelated people that something may be going on with the Regal or some other Buick beyond the GS. I could not get either to give of a hint other than that kind of smerk on the face and a quote of "it is going to be very interesting" from one person. The other is from a person who is a engineer in a GM programs and he claims a twin Turbo V6 Regal or other Buick is being looked at. The claim of 400 HP was made. Sorry but I do not want to re…

Was bumming with the kids today. They had a new silver Regal outside the BPG dealer by the Sonic today so I stopped in. First off, let me state that someone must of lit a fire under the GM dealers' asses because the last couple times I have dropped by the Buick dealer I have been treated real well and the salespeople have been absolutely knowledgible (SP) about every aspect of the car. I had an exceptional experience when i bought my Cobalt by the way too. In any case, the salesperson was more than happy to open the car outside since the one that they put on the show floor that morning had already sold and had left the building. I had previously been inside a Regal f…

(1) Electrochromic Windows This is nothing new. The technology has been around for decades. The window glass has an electrochromic film applied onto it or sandwiched between two panes of glass. The film is almost clear until voltage is applied on it when it turns dark. The level of darkness can be controlled at the touch of a button or turn of a dial. Each passenger can control the darkness of his window. The driver can have a master override to darken or lighten all windows if needed. In addition, the car can be engineered to for example automatically lighten glass when reverse is engaged or have different default darkness settings in the day and at night. This basical…
