I about craped bricks when we got our appraisal to redo our 2nd. We've owned our home for only 10 months, and it has gone up over 23%. Portland is one crazy place to live when it comes to housing.

Yep... finally! So, I bet you're wondering what is, right? Is it a BMW? A Miata? 240SX? Grand Am? Fiero? Prelude? Del Sol? Civic? NSX? Crapalier? Ferrari? Datsun? Silverado? LaSalle? Blazer? Or even a Geo Metro? What is it, you ask? Well.... A Rascal, that's what. A dog named Rascal. We got him over the weekend at a dog shelter. I couldn't tell you what he is, though. He looks half Terrier and half Dalmation to be... but hell if I know. He's about a year old. He got the rascal because... well... he's a frisky little thing. Full of energy and loves to play. He hasn't quite gotten used to Harley yet, or vice-versa, though. They just chase each other over and ov…

I have (my company has) this one client who is turning out to be a real ass hole. (I wrote about this once before). Unfortunately, I service his current project. I have never had a client I didn't like before (well, actually there was one). I figured it out. This guy, an exec "of sorts" at a construction company, thinks architects are necessary evils. (I'd like to see him get the degree and then the license). He is obviously some ex-jock who got into construction management - he may have a college education in construction, but, regardless, he is a little too classless. Since he probably lacks the technical skills, he has to use his over-the-top aggressiveness to g…

1998 Camaro for those of you not in the know. 3.8L "3800 Series II." Automatic Transmission. Every piece of the motor is apart from the other, after a major knocking noise started to occur. This is what we've found: A few worn main bearings A few worn rod bearings One completely torn up rod bearing (looks like a rodent got to it or something) A couple scratched/scarred pistons and connecting rods because of the bearings The "bearing" (or whatever it's called) on the crankshaft for Cylinder One is worn almost flush with the ridge that's supposed to be there The thing that sucks the oil up is totally full of metal shavings and garbage And this is only after 55,000 miles.…

I'm a big fan of the 2000 -to- 2005 Impala. Pretty much the only flaw they have is that they have transverse mounted motors and are FWD. As far as sefety, quality & power economy and smoothness of the Impala it is all fantastic. Once they changed the burgundy tail light surround to black in '03 I pretty much thought the car looked almost PERFECT, even looks like it has a RWD stance. Is it just my obsession for RWD, am I just seeing things? THis car has always looked like it has a RWD stance to me. Am I crazy? Look at that healthy rear overhang...

Jet...agricultural...biplane... Good for a whole 100mph. The plane it was designed to replace was a 1946-vintage prop biplane (the AN-2) that is still being used today. The same people who built that (PZL) built this... ...a twin-engine bomber leftover from an airliner proposal built so poorly the Polish national airline rejected it. It was also made of so many different materials that it split apart in midair on a demonstration flight carrying prospective Romainian buyers. The 'improved' version had a new tail design so heavy it couldn't carry bombs and gear retractors so weak it flew with the wheels down. And it crashed, too. They also built this... ...which …

I know that LSx engines get stronger as they get less "green," but I've never heard of them getting better gas mileage as well. When I got the GTO with about 6k miles on it, I got 13.3.-13.5MPG consistently on each tank. Then one tank I averaged 14.1MPG and was presently surprised. That went on for a couple tanks, and then the last tank I got 14.6MPG. I thought maybe I was just babying it more than I used to, but now more than 3/4 of the way through the current tank I'm getting 15.1MPG and am definetly not babying it all the time. Anyone ever heard of the LS1 increasing performance AND gas mileage over time? This is also interesting because the Alero which is 700lb…

The other night I was watching a basketball game on TV, and I saw the same commercial for the Sonata about 5 times. At first it's just driving around and whatnot, and then it enters a tunnel. The tunnel scene is VERY similar to the V-Series commercial where the cars start in a tunnel, and then it comes out of the tunnel very similarly to how the V-Series cars do. Has anyone else seen the commercial? If I was Cadillac marketing, I'd be PISSED at Hyundai right now.

I've always been curious as to what the problems were with the Cadillac Catera. I liked the car when it came out in 1997; heck, even a few people in my development own one. But it seems as if you mention the name "Catera" here and people get all angry. What exactly was wrong with this car? Did GM/Cadillac fix the problems in its last model year (2001)? Thanks for the insight!

"What does YellowJacket drive, I wonder...?" Oh, I know the question bugs you. Especially since I mention it here time to time. Is that a hint? It should be. What's that? Huh? You want to see the whole damn truck and not just a snippit of a badge? Alright then... That's it. That's what I'm forced to drive right now. Technically, it's my dad's truck. A 1999 Dodge Dakota SLT Club Cab with four-wheel-drive; fully optioned except for an on-board compass (it does have an overhead console, though) and leather...if that was even an option on this truck. It has the infamous 318 Magnum V-8 -- which, by the way, 1999 was the last year for that engine in the 'Kota -- and t…

I just looked up currency rates. Our dollar buys $ 1.10 worth of Canadian dollars. That is unbelievably bad, relatively speaking. When you throw on their taxes, you are right about 1:1. That's horrible. There is no reason to go vacation in Canada right now. Obviously, it's a field day for them coming down into the States to vacation. I remember that, living in Seattle from 1997 through 2000, the US:Canada ratio went to 1.00 : 1.52 once. Crossing the border to vacation or buy things was like stealing...or felt like it!

The PS3 will be arranged in two separate system configurations: a 20 and a 60 gigabyte hard drive system. What's more, Japan will see the PS3 first on November 11th, at a price for 59,800 yen for the 20 gigabyte system setup. The 60 gigabyte system will be open ended and set by retailers. North America, Europe and Australasia will see the system six days later on November 17th. The price? $499 dollars or 499 Euros for the 2…

If you like the Red Hot Chili Peppers (or alternative in general), you're going to love this album. I've had it for all of two hours and it's already a candidate for album of the year (for me, at least)! I suggest purchasing form the iTunes Music Store, as you get a video on the making of the video for "Dani California," a 17-page digital booklet, and an hour-long audio commentary. (Ultimate-Guitar.com said you can get a special edition with these bonuses plus some other toys for US$130. Yeah, I'm gonna have to stick with just paying $19.90.) Or do I not have the worst luck ever? Seriously... just last week, I simply rode my 300EX into town for something to do. I ran out of gas and got picked up by the cops. All the while throughout the past 6 months, I've been without a car. I haven't been able to get another car or sell my GA. I haven't been about to sell my 'in excellent condition' 300EX. Now, I can't even get a loan, but it doesn't matter since the car I wanted has been sold. Needless to say, I absolutely cannot get a job without a car. That's reality. No, I didn't go on a road trip ... don't even have my older 4 MCs out for the season yet...arg. Instead, I watched my Dad's softball team win on their Opening Night, 12-11. After allowing 5 runs in the top of the 1st, Dad's team scored 2 in the bottom of the first and 5 in the bottom of the 2nd to grab a 7-5 lead. After the visiting team tied it at 7, Dad's team took back the lead, 8-7. But, a 3-run top of the 5th ... all with 2 out, nonetheless ... gave the other team a 10-8 lead. That didn't last long, with Da…

The 'What If...?' discussion got me thinking about how international things are becoming and just how quickly they are becoming that way. I can perhaps understand the need to captively import and rebadge a Daewoo as a subcompact or a European Focus as we just get lazy in this country. But when I read and hear about how "global concerns" may just end up seriously dictiating how large our midsize and fullsize cars will be, I get irritated. I have to wonder...am I the only one that's going to lament the passing of truly American-exclusive cars? Cars like... For years it seems we've had to bend to the will of foreigners. The original 300M's rear was chopped because …

I got a summer internship in Des Moines, but the place I'm staying only has dial-up internet, so I doubt I will be using the internet much if at all this summer. It's going to be an adjustment because I usually check C&G every night. So if I go up missing here for a while, that's where I am...without the internet. About the only chance I'll get to go online is when I go home or if I drive up to ISU to visit friends up there who have it. So as my buddy would say, "Welp, schee ya!"...but I'll be back in full force in August! Hopefully I don't miss out on some good spies of the Silverado and Sierra.

I've been thinking this topic up for a while. Who do you know personally that has a strange taste in cars that they like/dislike love/hate? My girlfriend for example, hates the Mini, but loves, of all things, the Scion xB. I have no idea why to this day. She hates the Magnum, but loves the Charger. She loves the Mustang. She like her Geo Prism but hates Chevy..even though I told her that her logo has a Chevy emblem on it She does love the Corvette however, and is OK with the Cobalt (because I like it, and the commercials were cute). She doesn't like the Caliber cuz it looks too much like a mini Magnum, but likes the Neon SRT-4. She likes the 300, loves the PT, but hat…

Folks: We've already seen the ordering guides and the new color lists. Surfacing on the horizon for larger cars is a color called Midnight Amethyst Metallic. In reality, it's already here -- on Cobalt, as a minimum. It's interesting, but possibly trendy. It can look somewhat grape-like. It reminds me of the mid-90s Thunderbird color that's purple and reads differently under different light. I guess I'm pissed because they shortchange us on variants of standard colors or fail to find a good shade of them and then insert trandier colors (this year Amethyst and 2 years ago Fusion Orange Metallic - I have seen NEW 04 and 05 GPs in that color still sitting on lots). …

I borrowed a friend's Alero 4-cylinder today. Pleasent little car, decent power, decent interior. With gas hovering at $3.00 a gallon and only going higher, I began thinking about alternatives to replacing my current CTS with an '08 CTS and instead finding a 4-cylinder premium car. I'm considering my options: Audi A4 2.0t Acura TSX 5-speed Saab 9-3 2.0t Volvo S40 I'm not entirely thrilled about any of those choices... the 9-3 would be ok, but doesn't light my fire. I know the Aura is coming, but my concern is that they'll package the Green-Line in a way that you can't get a loaded one. What I want is a completely loaded premium car with great fuel mileage…

Mazda and BMW Promise Hydrogen Cars by 2008 Date posted: 03-24-2006 DETROIT — Mazda has delivered the first two hydrogen-powered RX-8s to corporate customers in Japan, while BMW has confirmed plans to bring a hydrogen-powered 7 Series to market within two years. Mazda showed a hydrogen-powered rotary engine in the RX-8 last fall at the Tokyo Motor Show, and the company, in fact, has been working on such engines for nearly 20 years. The two recent test cars were leased to Idemitsu Kosan in Tokyo and Iwatani International in Osaka, both participants in the government-sanctioned Japan Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Demonstration Project. I'm pretty unsatisfied with both of my computers right now. My desktop is pretty much a Frankenstein hodge-podge of newer parts (motherboard, processor...) and parts from previous computers (hard drive, RAM...). The thing is pretty slow by today's standards and it been grating on my nerves for a while. The Compaq laptop is much faster (2.8GHz Pentium 4, 512MB RAM) but is an unreliable POS. The power connector broke, the keyboard and touchpad are dead and the montior has some dead pixels. Not to mention it gets hot and is loud as hell. So I've recently been looking at alternatives for the future and came across a pretty good-looking deals on Alienware and Mac G5 compute…

Yesterday I was going down the street to the strip mall to get a pizza for dinner, I saw this guy in a two door Tahoe. He was backing out of his spot at almost full throttle, and a lady in a Lumina was coming along and the Tahoe almost hit it. Clearly, the Lumina had the right of way, as he wasn't even half out of his spot, but I saw the moron in the Tahoe roll down the windows and start to cursing the woman. Rednecks... don't people these days have driving manners...

As car ethusiasts, have any of you ever felt bad for a car? Here's my little story: Me and a friend went to this junkyard back in the fall to get a new HVAC control module (or whatever it's called) for my Dodge Shadow cuz the original one overheated. They had a few SHadows there, so that's why we chose that place. Sometime in January the wiring harness connector overheated again, melting the module again, but money has been very tight lately, so we were stuck without heat until last moneth. Last month, some other friends and I went to the same yard to get the same part (plus a new wiring harness, turns out corrosion on the harness caused the meltdown). Some of the Shadow…

Since Camino LS6 asked, I thought I'd share with everyone some pics (14 total, plus 2 extra) of my family's muscle cars. The first post is for the blue 1969 Barracuda, the 2nd post will be the orange 1979 `Cuda, and the last two are msic images. Enjoy! Very little rust on this car at all. It does run, and was last driven in the fall, although Today I noticed there's large wet spot under the car. It's raining so I'm not sure if it's a leak or not. This Barracuda has a 340 and a manual tranny, it also has factory A/C. There's been a lot of work done to this car over the past few years. The nterior had a lot of work done to it, including the seats being reuph…

Ok, so this is kind of a stupid story, but here goes. his moring I was pulling into the North Campus parking lot at college. Usually you can just drive through, but today there was agate installed. that gate has been there before, but it gets broken all the time, so they usually leave busted, but today yet another one was up. This threw me off, so when i came to a stop I was too far away from teh terminal to swipe my ID. Then another car pulling in behind me. I got out of the car, swiped it, got back in, and pulled away, but I was doing itin a bit of a rush, cuz there's a time limit on that gate. In my rush, I grazed the damn pole that the gate is connected to. i was so…

Flames lost again and the Ducks move on. The west is going to get its ass handed to it on a plate again this year, as they will again be the division with "the cinderella team" going to the finals. Well, at leats i still have the Sens to cheer for, and it will be cool if Jersey and Carolina beat each other up so badly that it will eliminate their chances of going to the finals. I felt this deserves its own thread, as the subject matter is slightly different than part one.

Uh huh... so the question is, have you ever ridden in a Police car? And doing it intentionally or having an ex cop car doesn't count. So... have you? If so.. entertain us with a story. So... why did I start this? Last night... I got a nice ride in a cop car. Yay. I was riding my ATV late at night (no, not nude or without lights again), like around midnight for something to do since I wasn't tired and the electric went out preventing me from getting on the computer last night (I really don't know why... it wasn't storming or anything). Well... I forgot that I had switched to my reserve tank the previous time I took it for a ride. I was riding through the woods near B…

What are those features about a car that you just love? I'm not talking so much about "I love a car with a ton of horsepower" or "a car that gets a billion mpg", but the little things that just make you smile. The first one that comes to my mind is the gas cap door with a release inside the car. I also like map lights that are semi-shaded - the light does not have a direct path to your eyes, but more down at the seats, making them much nicer at night. So, what are your favorite features?

Alright, I'm quite serious about wanting to buy that BMW 318ti. My parent's aren't turned off by it, either. However, I need to find a way how... I talked to my Grandpa about co-signing a loan for me, but he thinks I have to be 18. I know I have to be 18 to get a loan, but what if I have a co-signer? Do I? Even to with someone to co-sign? That and and the other issue is insuring and registering it. First off, would I be able to register it at my age? If I can, would the car be able to be on my parents insurance plan, although registered under my name? Anyways... would I be better off just to convince my parents to just get the loan, but I'll pay it? Any help is appr…

With GM's recent search campain to find the longest lasting trucks on the road, but excluding cars and obviously other makes, it left some of us dissapointed. Obviously it's not the same, but I figured why not show off you're car's reliablity to your fellow C & G members? It's fun if nothing else. If at all possible, provide some pics of your car, including of the odometer. This qualifies mainly for cars that still run, and perferable still are owned by you, but if you have a past car with more miles than whatyou currently have, that is acceptible too Enjoy! I'll post my car tomorrow when I can take some pics (kinda dark right now, plus I'm going to bed). Fun idea.…

so im watching Boyd Coddingtons shameless ripoff of American Chopper, American Hotrod... and normally they get a beat up POS and make it sweet... which i have no problem with... the car was dead anyway... but today they have crossed the line Boyd drives... yes drives as in the car works... a 1961 Impala into the shop... in PERFECT condition... no rust, original interior, original motor, beautiful paintjob... PERFECT what do they do to it? well first Boyd destroys the torque converter by putting it in park and flooring it until something breaks... then they strip it down all the way... and as of right now... they are planning on CHANGING THE HEADLIGHTS AND TAILLIGHT…

Hi Guys: Please forgive me springing this on you, i apologize. I just got off messenger with Jay, whom many of you will remember as the partner of Chief, one of our C&G members. Jay informed me that Chief passed away on January 4, 2006. He had been sick for some time, and his heart gave out. I know a lot of you will be as upset as I am. Chief was a member who always had a great outlook on life. His posts were thoughtful, informative, and just plain clever. I for one, learned a lot from him, and looked forward to his posts, and our chats. I am still shocked. I've set up this post to not only let you know the news, but to start a thread in honour of Chie…

I went to a Jewish wedding in Santa Cruz CA on Saturday. I got there about 1.5 hours early and needed to change into a suit, so I hit Starbucks and lounged around for that time. In addition to having a weird culture to begin with, UCSC is located here. It is the only campus in the famed UC system that does not give letter grades. It's an absolutely gorgeous locale with the ocean, mild weather and lush vegetation; however, God are there weird people there! Other weird college towns: Eugene OR - California-hating Oregonians and earthy-crunchy frumps galore Bellingham WA and Olympia WA - more of the same; also, lots of Subarus - what saves Bellingham is that it's clo…

You guys all know by now that I'm working on cleaning house(selling all my cars). So, having seen many of my old rides and knowing my current ones, what do you think my next one will be or should be? I'm all over the map. New/old, truck/SUV/Car, classic wagon/El Camino, a Zeta variant, even tempted by Kappa. Even I can't guess what it will be. So make your suggestions/predictions now and we'll see who nails it. Even I don't know what the answer will be.

Similar like Word Association, but here is how its played. Ill start off with one word, the next person has to come up with two things that relate to that word, then the third person has to pic one of the previous persons words and come up with 2 words that relate to that and so on and so on. Example: Charger4U: Cylinder WPBHarry: Piston, Engine (make the relation) WPBHarriet: Engine (the word he/she picked to relate to) Hemi, Northstar Charger4U: Hemi (the word i picked to relate to) Charger, Ram. Get it? its not as complicated as it may sound once we get started. The starting word is Chevrolet

Beginning Friday, April 7 (continuing April 14, 21 and 28), I'm hosting a radio show 8p-11p central time, with 8-8:05, 9-9:05 and 10-10:05 being newscasts. I signed a contract (I'm paying for the airtime) with the local radio station (WRMN 1410 AM) to host "CD Showcase", something I've been wanting to do ever since I graduated college. If it "takes off", I may be able to get advertisers to offset some of the costs ... and continue doing the show throughout the year. We'll see . If you're not in the NE IL area, you can listen online: www.wrmn1410.com click on "warp radio" Here are a few of the promos/segues I recorded for the show.... ("The Song Remembers When" by …

Well let's see.... -Red Wings lose, they are down 3-2 in the series. 1 loss from elimination. -Lions *don't* take Matt Leinart in the draft....they draft some dude that's already had like 4-5 concussions. -Pistons are getting ready to lose big to Milwaukee. At least they will be up in the series 2-1 after this loss. ...however the Tigers did win 18-1. I'm pretty sure they haven't won by that margin in...well forever maybe.

An excerpt from today's San Francisco Chronicle: Ron Patrick is approaching the age of 50, a time when many men begin thinking about minutiae like pensions and second homes and third cars. But Patrick is far more interested in telling you why it is that he has stuck a big jet engine in the back of a prosaic silver Volkswagen. He's standing out in a parking lot, waving his arms with wild enthusiasm, pointing at the car as if he were a 15-year-old who's just had his first ride in a Corvette, his eyes spinning in delight. This car consumes him, he loves the completely outrageous idea behind it, and for a moment, his infectious mood makes you think, gee, anybody could do t…

Sighs, it never rains but it pours, right? I had my new 71 Camaro at a show a couple of weeks ago and on the way home I started to hear a knocking from the engine compartment. LOUD. I immediately got into a weigh station (lucky it was right there) and shut down. Thankfully my brother had trailered his 73 to the same show and we unloaded it and put my car on the trailer. He then let me drive his car to my place (with only 100 miles on the new engine) while he followed me. The next day Tammy (my wife), our 2 kids (7 and 11), and I pulled the engine out and tore it down. The front two piston rods were completely drive at the main bearings. In fact number 2 had no main…
