I was kind of wondering how old most people are around here? I am 26 and getting ready to purchase a LaCrosse in the next month or so. I am guessing I am on the younger side for this board since the guy at the dealership looked at me funny and said he as not sold a LaCrosse to anyone under 45.

All right, I was down at a friend of mine's shop just shooting the breeze with him when I noticed a car sitting in his back lot. I saw the Buick herald and asked what year it was. He told me that it was a 1964 Buick 225. The body was in great shape, just needed some paint and needed to have a little surface rust knocked off. The interior was in good shape, actually, great shape. The engine even ran without any problems. The only problem, needed to have the brake system completely replumbed. I asked him how much. My answer: $300.00. I dunno about you guys, but that sounds like a steal for a classic Duece-and spare change. Just curious though, which engine is it? …

I've been called many things, but I found this one interesting... I was walking out of kroger's with a few things... I was behind a well-to-do couple.. They watched me walk to my car-and open the door...as I start putting stuff in- I hear-"Man, the white trash gets worse here every day.." and they drive away in their 300... I was like- Granted-I'm sure nobody looks great after a 12 hour day- but bash on my beater? It's a little rusty-but it's clean inside and out-and shiney too, after a good wax last week...I take care of all my cars-regardless.... Those of you with "older" cars-do people ever make fun of them? *shakes head* Dumb people....

So, today I'm walking out of Wal-Mart, and one of the old lady greeters (excuse me, "associates") was standing over by the door when she whipped out her walkie-talkie. Then I heard her crow "Bill, have you taken your luxury yet?" Bill replied "Nah, not yet...probably in 'bout 'nother half hour." Putting two and two together, I'm assuming Bill's "luxury" was his coffee break. Who the hell calls coffee break "luxury"? My Theory: Probably because it's a luxury to get away from the whining customers that park their carts at an angle in the middle of the main aisle and complain when the price that rings up on their packet of Wrigley's is $.05 higher than the advertis…

Accused 147 mph speeder gets day in court By Mike Sakal, Tribune July 17, 2006 The Scottsdale speeding case that caught the attention of both car experts and photo enforcement critics moves into gear this week. Goodyear resident Lawrence Pargo, 26, pleaded not guilty following his May 21 drive on Loop 101 that city officials said reached speeds up to 147 mph. Some car enthusiasts doubted the accuracy of Scottsdale’s freeway photo enforcement program, saying Pargo’s rented 2006 Hyundai Sonata likely couldn’t go that fast. Pargo, who was charged with four counts of speeding, reckless driving and endangerment, is scheduled to appear in Scottsdale City Court at 2…

Date posted: 07-29-2006 WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Chrysler Group is recalling 146,195 Jeep Grand Cherokees because cooling-fan blades may break and cause injuries to bystanders if the hood of the vehicle is open. At the same time, Toyota will recall more than 9400 early-model 2007 FJ Cruisers because of potential tire defects. The Jeep recall involves 2000 and 2002 Grand Cherokees with the 4.0-liter 6-cylinder engines. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the automaker collected nearly 200 complaints about broken fans. Chrysler Group will begin a national notification of owners of the Grand Cherokee in August. NHTSA also reported that the inner bead of t…

I retired my old Sanyo 8100 for a new black Sanyo 6600 Katana today. I can't stop looking at it, it's so cool. It's got all the good features: -Speakerphone -Camera -Bluetooth (bought a headset to go with it) -"True sound" ring tones (i.e. no polyphonic fakery -- "Twisted Transistor" isn't a series of beeps and tones) -...and so on Pretty good RAZR alternative if you don't have Cingular (I have Sprint). (This one is blue but Google failed in finding me a good pic of the black one.) So last year.. just over a year ago my computer crashed and we never found out why, we just replaced it a few months later. Well, the other day this computer I'm on (Dell Dimension 5100) decided to not load up at all so I thought it was broken. Well, yeah, my mom remembered my grandma telling her something about a battery in the computer. So, my mom's checking out the computer, replaces this stupid battery, and it works again. Brilliant! Anyway, this is the good part.. For some dumb reason, we kept my old computer around in the basement. As luck would have it, my mom thought to replace its stupid battery today and.. bam!.. it works. So now I have every last Photoshop ch…

So yesterday they went to the auction in Indianapolis, and today a black Z06 is sitting there getting ready for the mechanics to make sure everything's working okay and for one of us to clean up. Well, the mechanics did their stuff today and I think tomorrow we will probably be cleaning it up. I'm hoping they let me just drive it around in the parking lot or something, it'd be a cool experience. If I could have a Z06, it'd definetly be a black one. It looked so badass it wasn't even funny. Seriously, I think it looks more badass than a Viper. All Corvettes are red, but maybe all Z06's are black :AH-HA_wink:

Went to a local cruise night here in Spotswood, NJ and have some pics to share. First pics of the Best In Show winner. To many, this car may look familiar. Yes, that's my 1963 Studebaker Avanti. I didn't expect to get Best In Show, but I'll certainly take it! Now on to other cars there. There were two other Studes at the show, both Gran Turismo Hawks. This one is a 1964. They were as ahead of their time as the Avanti was.

I'm getting a new cell phone. Early yesterday I won the eBay auction I've been bugging you guys about. The phone in question is a Boost Mobile i875. It has features that I'll probably never use like Bluetooth® and GPS, and features I've grown to love like nationwide walkie-talkie (I really can't live without my bleep). Plus it plays MP3s. Thanks to eBay, I got the phone for half of what it retails for. It's brand-new in the original packaging and even comes with a free car-charger. I'm psyched. More importantly, it's replacing my old i850 which is beat to $h!. My current phone has quite a few miles (or minutes) under it's belt, and the ante…

At about 11 pm on July 25, 1956, 50 years ago today, the Italian passenger liner Andrea Doria was sailing off of Nantucket, Mass. and due in to NY the following morning. She had essentially crossed the entire Atlantic. However, as the area was blanketed in fog and there was confusion aboard both ships who saw each other's lights up ahead, the Swedish liner Stockholm, with a bow designed to cut through ice, broadsided the Andrea Doria, cutting a gash below the water line that meant her end. About 50 people perished...all at the site of impact. Miraculously, unlike other more rapid sinkings, the Andrea Doria went under at 10:09 am the next day. Furthermore, the French l…

Okay, so I'm new (and quickly becoming addicted) to buying stuff on eBay. The latest auction I've become interested in is a BuyItNow () auction with the option of Best Offer (). I plan on making an offer, rather than resorting to paying the BuyItNow price. On the Submit Best Offer page, it says “Make this offer your Best Offer. You can only make 1 offer on this item.”. My question is, if my offer is declined...that's it? I can't counter-offer with a higher amount? If that's the case, anyone have any advice on how low the seller might be willing to go? I mean, why make the Best Offer option available if you aren't willing to sell at a lower price? TIA -Bim…

MT is all gushing for themselves over their latest issue, they have a minivan comparo. But get this, Sedona, Quest, Caravan, Odyssey. WHERE'S THE SIENNA? I'm no Toyota banger, but its clear the Sienna is one of the segment leaders. To top it off, they tested a Quest with a list price of over 40 grand. They could have just as easily tested an S model in the high twenties because they tested a Sedona with an MSRP of about 25 grand. "And its such a great value". Damn thing didn't even have power doors! Yet the Sedona takes 2nd even though the Quest has the nicer interior and handle the best of the bunch. The Sedonas second row doesn't even fold flat. This was a facinating story about a three wheeled car, a transvestite and fraud in the 70's. The Dale three wheeled car was designed by Dale Clift and marketed by Liz Carmichael. It was covered widely in print and television media during the gas crisis of that period. But things weren't all that they appeared. The company was investigated and fraud, grand theft and securities violations was discovered. Only about 3 prototypes were built. One is in the Petersen Museum. And Liz went to prison. Later it was also discovered that Liz Carmichael was a 200 lb transvestite who was born Jerry Dean Michael. Not that there is anything wrong with that. 1975 Dale brochure:

Was The 2000 W-Body Monte Carlo And Impala Meant To Be Rear-Drive? Browsing around on the net, I found a page that posted the specifications of 1998's Chevrolet Intimidator concept car, which would eventually become the production Monte Carlo in 2000, some two years later. I scanned over the drivetrain specs, expecting to see it listing the concept as a "front-engine, front-drive" car. Instead I found the following: Yes, that's right. The concept that previewed the sixth-generation MC was rear-drive. And something else tells me that feature was meant to be carried over into production. Also, I'd like for you to take note of the powertrain on this: And -- I…

We are currently under renovations at work; however, they don't have anything to do with what just happened this morning. There are two elevation changes off the street up to our building. One is the sidewalk with another strip of pavement to the right of it. Then there's another step up to another sidewalk along our windows. A senior lady didn't lift her foot high enough and caught her toe on the upper sidewalk. She went down and bashed her eyebrow on the concrete. An older gentleman had noticed her go down and immediately went out to help her; I saw the commotion and followed. I was considering an iMac but this deal looked too good to pass up (plus, I'm curious about Windows Vista). I don't think I want a Mac as my main computer just yet. Maybe I'll get a MacBook in the future. It should be arriving next week.

Hello everyone. I spotted this place after someone showed me a link to the new CTS. I snooped around a little bit and figured this would be a cool place to join. I think I'll enjoy it .

Top 10 most expensive cars on the market today: http://www.automotoportal.com/article/Top_...rs_in_the_world I love the Veyron but $1.7 million? WTF! The ENZO for seven figures is equally if not more insulting. I knew that $h!pile was expensive but I thought it was like 750K not a cool mill. If I spent a million on car(s) I'd have half of my top 100 dream cars & money left over for registration.

Has anyone else seen the original Vanishing Point. I just watched it last night and it was great. Good car chase as well. Motor Trend ruined the movie for me though. They explained the 2 bulldozers so I knew the meaning in the first part of the movie. The car that was crashed into the bulldozers was actually a 67 Camaro. Motor Trend explained it because you can see the upside down Camaro badge when the townspeople are examining the wreckage. I didn't see the badge but I saw the body and windowline and I knew it was a Camaro. This was a good car chase movie. Anyone else seen it or seen any other good car chase movies? My favourite car chase is in Bulitt.

I'm leaving for the great state of Texas early Thursday morning....I'll be leaving my house around 1:30AM for a 5:40AM flight out of JFK . I'll be flying Continental from JFK-IAH-SAT and back. I'm a little worried about my luggage, especially with only a 38min stop in IAH on the way there, so I may try carrying my one suitcase on. My hotel's in San Antonio, but I plan on driving to Corpus Christi, Del Rio, and a couple other places in addition to what's in SA.

I've listed it twice on ebay now and gotten lots of watchers, one fool that keeps insisting that it had to have come from the factory with leather seats and chrome wheels and he demands that I put them "back in/on". I'm thinking maybe I won't re-list it again if it doesn't go this time. Maybe I'll just polish it up, put it up on jackstands, cover it , and try to forget I own it for a few years.

Seeing how the Wal-Mart thread has turned out to be a Wal-Mart vs. Target thread and now has added the Warehouse shooping clubs to the mix (Costco), I thought it might be a good idea to get everyone's opinion on the three major warehouse clubs. I have two memberships - one for school-use (Sam's) and one for both personal and school-uses (BJ's). I've gone into a Costco only twice; not sure if I want to add a third membership (school pays for the Sam's and business-BJ's memberships). For those with Costco memberships, why should I get a membership? I added an "OTHER" category, just in case there's a club that's not located on the East Coast that I'm not aware of.

Toyota's totally bizarre recall this is similar to some already posted topics, but the quotes in here were priceless.... http://www.cnn.com/2006/AUTOS/07/11/bad_recall/index.html example: (1) "The Tundras in question were built with an airbag shut-off switch but not the LATCH system. The solution? Spend lots of money and inconvenience customers...to remove the airbag shut-off switch. The move not only doesn't enhance the safety of these vehicles, it actually makes the vehicles unsafe for small children riding in the front seat. " WHY is toyota still having the "switch" mechanism, just put in an sensor like GM does? Can they be that stupid? (2) "Toyota has no oth…

Thought I'd make a thread about cars one doesn't see all that often... and are somewhat inconspicuous that just appeal to one for some reason. Rare? Exotic? Expensive? Not necessarily. For me... I'll start off with something that's not a 240SX.... 86-89 Celicas.

I don't consider myself handy but... this was pretty easy actually. I just put in a window mount air conditioner. I had to take out a fixed pane of glass to do it. I just ripped out some sheilding and pushed on the window, and it came off the caulking and popped right out. I was worried I was going to break it putting it in. The only problem is that I can't find my caulking, or my duct tape, so right now all the air leaks are sealed with scotch tape. Yes, its actually strong enough - 3M makes some good scotch tape, apparently. So, what else around the house is surprisingly easy? Has anyone else fixed something or installed something that they can give tips on? While …

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/13862689/ Woman allegedly called 911 for ‘cutie’ deputy ALOHA, Ore. - A woman who called 911 to get "the cutest cop I've seen" sent back to her home got a date all right -- a court date. The same sheriff's deputy arrested her on charges of misuse of the emergency dispatch system. Washington County Sheriff's Sgt. David Thompson told KGW-TV of Portland it all started with a noise complaint called in last month by neighbors of Lorna Jeanne Dudash. The deputy sent to check on the complaint knocked on her door, then left. Thompson said Dudash then called 911, asking that the "cutie pie" deputy return. "He's the cutest cop I've seen in a long time.…

Hello and welcome back to In Retrospect. After a breif hiatus, IR is back and will be brought to you monthly in The Lounge. Future issues will/may hold more content. This month we ask one question: Why didn't they build that? *** The car that should have been built was a concept by GM -- Nineteen-Ninety-Five's Buick XP2000. These images taken by avant1963: Why didn't GM build it? The platform would've made a great replacement for both the W-Body and B-Body cars; the styling was near timeless and well-done; the packaging was a flawless idea. (They can keep the Automated Highway Sytem, though.) Why didn't they built it? Guess you can chalk it up to the bea…

"GM's future in balance with meeting of CEOs" <---- MSN Today headline WHY, may I ask, does the media always have to put GM in some sort of negative spot? This is utter bull$h!. What about the future of Nissan and Renault? Their "future" is on the other end of the scales... also "in the balance", as it were, yet MSN chooses to single out the world's #1 automaker as somehow weak./RANT!

If anyone who is in the Seattle area or reasonably close to it is looking for something to do this coming Sunday, the 16th, there will be an All Camaro & Chevy Show at the XXX-Drive In in Issaquah. The show is free for spectators, if anyone wants to enter, it is $15 for day of show entries. My car club is putting this show on and its always been a lot of fun. All Camaro & Chevy Show The show starts at 8AM and runs all day. Scott Settlemire is flying in and he has hinted at some cool cars he…

Okay, first off: it's *not* an olds-person's disease. It's basically a hereditary condition where your body makes too much of something called Uric Acid. It crystalizes in a joint (most commonly your big toe) and causes you a intense pain. The first time I had it, I couldn't stand the weight of my bed-sheets touching my big toe -- yes, it hurts that flipping bad. Well, it appears that I've got it in my small-toe -- and it hurts like a mother. Just got out of the doctor (they also found a lump in my wallet, badump-bump) & picked up my prescription. It's soooo lame to be tied up by something so small! I once had it in my knee (and the doctor needed to take a flu…

I don't know how it's doing anywhere else, but today we probably sold more cars than all of the other days I've worked there combined. It was nuts. We were constantly getting something for delivery, and they were working on more sales when 5PM rolled around too (which is when I leave).

So the other day while bored but stuck at home in the rain I found this horrible flick "Snake Eater" on OnDemand. I watched it (unfortunately) and I can honestly say it's one of the cheesiest movies of all time. Absolutely horrible like a bad train wreck: it's terrible but you can't look away. It stars that great acting ledgend Lorenzo Lama(s) & some dude who looks like a stunt double for Kenny Rodgers. (or Will Sasso as K.R. on MadTV) To make matters worse I just found out there's a made for TV Miami Vice movie hitting theatres soon, Jamie Foxx is not even a bad actor, in silly comedies but not in a M.V. remake. Miami Vice is two things:…

Was it Blackviper with his obsession with Pontiac and the infamous Fiero? Is it Knightfan with his obession with the Monte Carlo? Just list whatever you think of.
