Yesterday as I was sitting at work before my shift began, I saw an article in the paper about how GM was trying to get Ford to get rid of their old ads that claimed that their 5yr/60,000mi warranty was the "best of any full-line auto maker." As I closed the paper, I noticed a Mercury ad on the back page... with that very statement. I love irony...

Hello, I noticed that there are a few Albertans on this board... My girlfriend and I are strongly considering on moving from this craphole we call Toronto to either Calgary or Edmonton... This, for the reason of the booming economy, plentiful jobs, and a more comfotable, slower-paced lifestyle... If there is anyone who lives in Alberta, break the ice and reveal if the rumours are true, that life is so great, that kids at Tim Horton's make 14/hr in Calgary and Edmonton, and if it is better for a young couple to head out there, and to where? Calgary or Edmonton? Thanks...

Haven't been able to get sound out of my iTunes for videos for quite awhile now. My DVD burner is hosed in every application. Trying to get into explorer is a 30 second to 1 minute debacle. I downloaded new iTunes7 today, thinking it would solve the sound problem. NO. I am incensed, and tired of windows and their shetty operating system. C'mon people, show your hate for Windows, and computers in general. Other digital devices are fair game too.

Well, as I said, the 11th, was me and Erik's one month anniversary of being together. I'm happy. Yay! However, I have another anniversary today, the 12th. It's somewhat related and something I can't believe I even remember the date of. But none the less, it started an important time in my life and really got me closer to being my true self. Can you guess? Curious? Well... One year ago, I came out to you guys as being attracted to... well... guys, haha. Course, I was still confused at the time and still not ready to completely rid the denial, so I came out as being Bi. So yeah... just thought I'd mention it since you guys love me.

Marcia has never gotten over me cheating on her in 2002. It was a mistake, we were not togeather in the official, formal sense but we were still living togeather and it was a stupid mistake on my part. In the past few weeks our relationship has come to a gridning halt. You might say it smacked into an iceberg and we're sinking... Sofia of course is the real victim & there's a lot of anger, hatred, mixed emotion & confusion between us in this huge emotional divide. Last night, I made what might become the most beautiful "mistakes" of my life when I met up and went on a informal date with a girl I met through the internet. There's so much more…

I've got an issue going on at work. Our receptionist who has NO life has, for the 3rd time, opened my mail. Sometimes, I have stuff sent to the office (care of) because I don't want to run to the UPS or FedEx station when I can't be reached at home during the day. The first time it was a private letter from an attorney. (She once opened this lady's divorce papers from an attorney that were sent to the office). The second time was a locker bag I had ordered on line. (It was obvious it was luggage I ordered). The third time was last week when school books arrived from Barnes and Noble for which I don't want people to know I am taking classes at night. She has 2 di…

I'm going to Italy next semester from January through April for our 4th year architecture study abroad trip. I'm getting excited about it, but I still have a lot of preparing to do before I leave. I have the passport all taken care of, and our class is getting Visas in mid-October. We'll be primarily in Rome, but we'll also take trips around Italy and we get some free time off to travel to other countries if we choose. Anyway, I'm just wondering in general from people who have been to Italy or Europe what it's like? Any tips or things I should know/avoid? I've heard you have to buy a power adapter since their outlets run on a 220V wattage. Also, do ATM cards here i…

It seems that you cannot hold up as sign at the NASCAR races that says that you "Hate Toyotas" or you will be arrested. Read this: Sunday August 20, 2006 This man Bill Bagwell (the founder of fansagainestracingtoyotas.com) was at the NASCAR race in Michigan he was holding this sign up at the pre-race television show Race day on Speed TV. He had been among the fans holding signs for over a hour. Their were many signs some positive about NASCAR drivers and teams and some not so positive. During a break the producer came over and told Bill he could no longer hold his Toyota sign up. Bill told him that this race was still being held in the USA and that he had freedom o…

I'm starting to realize that in less than one month, my younger brother will be 16. Not only do I tremble at the thought of him driving... he wants a truck, no less. And not just any truck. He wants one that isn't low to the ground. Hide me. Haha. The day he gets his license and starts driving on his own, especially if he gets the sort of truck he wants, will be the day I move far far away from any roads he'd travel on. Anywho... While doing my usual dealer hopping, I did look at a few trucks for him. In Clarion there's 93 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 with a manual tranny for $2000. It's a single cab, short bed. Then theres like a 94, I think, Ford Ranger in Dubois for about $30…

BBC Link Sudan man forced to 'marry' goat A Sudanese man has been forced to take a goat as his "wife", after he was caught having sex with the animal. The goat's owner, Mr Alifi, said he surprised the man with his goat and took him to a council of elders. They ordered the man, Mr Tombe, to pay a dowry of 15,000 Sudanese dinars ($50) to Mr Alifi. "We have given him the goat, and as far as we know they are still together," Mr Alifi said. Mr Alifi, Hai Malakal in Upper Nile State, told the Juba Post newspaper that he heard a loud noise around midnight on 13 February and immediately rushed outside to find Mr Tombe with his goat. "When I asked him: 'What are you doing t…

I admit it ... I'm fascinated by how lives are intertwined, especially when people don't even realize it, and I'm fascinated by nostalgia (as you may remember from some of my posts). Put those two together ... and you have one helk of a combination. Case in point ... the former Meadowdale International Raceway. In its heyday (1959-1969), the raceway featured many races along its 12-turn, 3.27 mile road course, situated NW of Chicago, in Carpentersville IL, north of the then new I-90 tollway. In recent years, it has been turned into what is now known as Raceway Woods ... a forest preserve that features a path that follows the old raceway concrete. I recently became aw…

I am rethinking my approach to getting a car. I think the Regal would be good but it has 350,000kms and I wouldn't trust that so would it be good to get a new motor from GM Performance Parts? I would want a 3800 Series II but at GM Performance Parts they are Supercharged. I like the idea of a supercharged Regal. Maybe a new trans or one off of another Regal. Would it be worth to do this? It has 350,000 kms on the car but it could be capable of getting more right with a new engine? If anyone knows how much a new crate motor is then please tell me. I think I may just get the Regal now before it goes to the wreckers. They only want $200 or less. WOuld this be a wise choice …

As of August 28th, 2006, I have a vehicle. No more borrowing this car or that car. I mentioned this in another thread. Here's what I said. Well, I bothered to ask today about it and the truck is mine for certain. He's never asking for it back. I can't say I blame him. Before I start getting into why I just said that, let me go around describing the truck first. The Indigo Blue Metalliac 1998 Chevrolet S10 LS regular cab with the 2.2 liter four and 5-speed manual I've been handed has the mid-level gray cloth upholstery and a CD player. The truck is equipped similar to 1999's Survival Pak S10s, although this truck doesn't have it. Now, I won't start making a long par…

So I get there and wait around for like 4 hours and finally get to see her because she was being released. I was so happy to see her alive, I started crying and she was crying, and everyone was crying. And then I said how lucky she was and how I needed to go, but I'd come over to her house and we'd talk. So I went over this afternoon and she told me all about it. She said it was her fault. She was trying to pass someone on a 2 lane highway, and that she mis-judged the space …

That's right. I've moved. Over the past few weeks, we moved from Lexington, Kentucky to a small town about thirty minutes away, Berea. We basically moved here room by room and got every box and bit of furniture here in a week's time. The computer was the last thing to go (along with the living room furniture) and it gave me the chance to be here without going away for a long period of time. We just got everything in place on Friday and finshed mowing the lawn yesterday, so we're all set and I'm ready to shoot the $h! about it. The house we moved to is located a mile from a junkyard, A&A Salvage. I know they've probably got over ten acres of cars…

I want to look 5 years into the future and see what treasures are sitting inside GM's walls right now. With all this speculation on engines, upcoming models, and now transmissions.. one's got to wonder. Chevy's getting a whole new face within the next year or two, Zeta will be debuting full-force, an 8-speed-automatic is in the rumor mill, Cadillac will be twice the company it is now, and GM's really cracking the whip on quality all across the board. Damn, I keep hearing new rumors and things "within the walls" and it just gets me antsy.. like that speculated 3V V8 and the "experimental 470 HP engine" found inside a CTS-V. And then with DI coming about and us hearing abou…

I'm starting a new website. It will is not going to compete with C&G but rather compliment it. AutoWikipedia I hope that one day, the autowikipedia will be an authorative database on automotive history so that we here at C&G and at forums all over can reference it. There won't be forums like what we have here on C&G, just a large database of our combined knowlage...and as the site grows, hopefully knowlage from users outside of C&G as well. This will be a huge undertaking and I'm hoping I can get a number of you to pitch in on writing articles. In addition, I'll need a few "moderators" to watch out for, and edit, the edit wars that can errupt on Wiki…

I just got back into the workout routine this semester, lifting weights and doing a couple laps around the track every other day. A buddy and I both keep a sheet where we record how many reps and the amount of weight each time, and it really shows you how much progress you've made. I used to go sometimes last year, but we didn't keep a record and after a while only started going once every week and just kinda fell out of it as things got busier. But seeing the improvements written down each week really gets you motivated to go each time and keeping lifting a little more. I've also noticed I feel a whole lot better physically when I'm in a regular routine.

I'm hoping someone on here is into computers and can help. I want to check out GMC and Buick's websites and since they have something being run thru Quicktime, my computer will not show it. All I get is the little Quicktime symbol...the little film real clip with a 'Q' in the center. I'm certain this is a simple adjustment needed to my computer settings, but I have no idea. I checked my internet settings and don't see anything listed for Quicktime, but all but 1 item was checked off under multimedia. I have decided to keep my truck for the foreseeable future. It runs great and returns good mileage for what it is. So I'm looking into some mild pimping options. Today I ordered a grille for it, with a carbon-fiber-look frame and chrome factory-style mesh, along with a billet bowtie (which I may refuse, I think I prefer the factory gold one to match the one on the tailgate). Hola! Figured I've tell about recent events in my life. Yay, I feel like Cory. Cell Phone The prelude to this story is that when I got this phone, (previously used by my sister because I dropped my old phone in coolant so she was "rewarded" the new phone and I received hers) there was 1 of the 4 screws that hold the front of the phone to the back together. Well, today at work I was unwrapping a pallet of items (it's always wrapped in saran wrap type stuff) when the saran wrap got tangled onto my phone without me noticing. Well, I pulled the saran a little harder because it was stuck on the pallet and my phone falls out of my pocket. So I pick it up and the front of it …

Chevron hits oil in major Gulf of Mexico well Tue Sep 5, 2006 10:35 AM EDT By Mark McSherry NEW YORK (Reuters) - Three oil companies, led by Chevron Corp. (CVX.N: Quote), have successfully drilled for oil in the Gulf of Mexico's deep waters, suggesting there may be more oil in the region that already provides a quarter of U.S. output, the companies said on Tuesday. During the test, at record depths and pressure, the Jack No. 2 well flowed at a rate of more than 6,000 barrels of crude per day, Chevron said. That puts it on a par with discoveries in exploration hot spots such as the waters off Angola. With U.S. oil output in decline, big new fields are increasingly rar…

Every once in a while, I get a rental car that is equipped with a sunroof. This happens when the MC is a 3.9 LT upgrade or a GP with the Supercharger (last year) and just this weekend in a Mercury Milan Premier. It was very nice driving the car around and seeing the stars through the glass sunroof. It was also nice having it open, sticking my hand up and catching the cool breezes off the coast. My biggest objection is that I hear they tend to leak. Also, if the power accessory fails, is that an expensive fix? Your experiences?

Alright, I've got the stock Monsoon system right now. HERE is a little read up on that. This is what I'm looking into: Head Unit: Kenwood KDC-MP2032 Component Speakers: Rockford Fosgate P1625 (one in each door) Subwoofer: Rockford Fosgate P110S4 10" Stage 1 I'm going to put the 10" sub in a custom box in the trunk, but I'm not sure if I should step up to the Stage 2 or not. I'm pretty set on the head unit and component speakers though. One question: what size/type of amp should I get? I'm not trying to spend a lot of money, just enough to get a nice sounding stereo...

Let me borrow from XP for a minute, because this pretty much sums up how im feeling right now: I get back from my camping trip and had a message on my phone from Fei Fei's cousin: (rough transcription) Hello Matt. We got the test done and the clinic called us. The child is not yours. I'm sorry if we made you worry. Goodbye.

Not sure how strange a question this is but here goes... I was wondering have there been any mainstream black rock or metal bands? ("Black" as in race.) I figure if there have been white rappers, black rockers can't be too out of the question, can they?

A friend of mine has been diagnosed with depression. However, he has chosen not to seek treatment (which would include a medical leave from work and daily therapist sessions) because he feels it is a "copout" FOR HIM. He does not feel, however, that those diagnosed with depression (and seeing treatment) are "copouts" ... just him. In fact, he says he realizes that others need that "push" to turn things around and doesn't think badly about or begrudge anyone who chooses that route. However, for himself, he feels that he shouldn't need help to "get happy" again ... and doesn't want the "stigma" of having depression. I don't agree with him. First, many people are diagn…

EDIT: Now it appears GM says they are coming to the EXPO, but the U of I's site that lists the companies coming doesn't have GM... maybe they just don't know what table they're putting GM at yet. This is a long ways away, but I might be able to get an internship for the summer... there are a lot of companies coming to the engineering job EXPO at U of I, but the only two automotive companies interested in freshman mechanical engineers (what I'm in) are Ford and Rolls-Royce. I think Rolls would be rather boring, so Ford would be my only chocie if I want an internship in the car business (of course there are like 93 companies interested in ME freshmen, so I could get somet…

Alright... anyone have plans for Labor Day weekend? If so, what are they? If not... and you live in my general area... There's the Knox Dale Fireman's homecoming that I talked about a while ago. It'd be a good chance for some of you guys to meet me... see Brookville... etc. You can camp out there with a tent... or a camper of some sort (not an actual camp ground... so no luxuries like water/electric hook ups). Basically, there's campfires, partying, consessions, games, raffles, bingo, entertainment, demo derby, volley ball, and softball. Starts Friday, main days are Sat and Sun, while it ends Monday. I stay all four days since I usually have nothing better to do. Wel…

So tonight I was walking back to my apartment/dorm with my friends and we were all drunk, and while we were walking I noticed how much better cars look when you're drunk. First, a '95 or so Camaro, which looked really low and sleek. I was like "holy $h! that Camaro looks awesome," then we went past a G6 coupe that looked freaking amazing. It looked like it was some super-sleek concept car or something. Yeah, that's my rant for the night. I'm still "under the influence" right now, but I'm basically sober.

He's been suffering with terminal cancer for some time now and tomorrow the hospice care begins. It's going to be a rough time around here for a while and I may not be here so often. I have lots of things to get figured out and will need to be supporting my family in whatever way I can as things progress. I will update you when it makes sense to do so. I consider you folks my friends so I felt I had to post this.

What was the song called that was in one or more of the Austin Powers movies when they dance in the beginning? I know it was a One Hit Wonder who produced the song in the early 90s. Does anyone know the name or artist?

So... I got a call on my cell phone on my way home from work today. It made me pull over - the first time I've ever had to. First, a little background. Some of you may remember, I went to China in late April / early May. While there, I picked up a girl in Beijing named Fei Fei (yes, you say it like the dogs name, let the jokes commence). She was really into me as I left for Nanjing. She came with my friends and I to the train station and everything. I've never seen a girl so torn up over a one night stand before. Different cultures, different reactions, I guess. So, she gave me her phone number, since I'd be on my way through Beijing on my last night there before flying…

I'm working 2 jobs for the first time in my life. Today I left the house at 9AM, got back home about 5:30, left again at 8:30 and got home at 12:30 (including drive time). That's 11.5 hrs. Did nearly the same yesterday and have nearly the same penciled in for tomorrow. Off-limit weekends are now fair game for work. I seem to have some sort of inhuman energy recently in this department.... yet my '59 sits gathering dust out in the shop- a 1000 hours left in the restification. Perhaps the ideal that you 'stop working, you die' is taking root. Or conversly; I'm trying to kill myself. The actual reality is I'm simply trying to amass more cash. Longest hours I ever did was …

It was a post about how the Gov't in the '70's allowed Big 3 dealership owners to sell Totota out of their dealerships, the same dealership network that cost GM, Ford, Chrystler billions to setup. All it cost Toyota was some paperwork and a couple signs. It had something to do with that, please help!

Do the 1988-up Regals 2-doors last awhile? I know its FWD and everything but there is one sitting at Orangeville Motors behind some trees. I saw it but never asked how much. It looks in alright shape. I just dont know how reliable they are. If it is the right price and reliable I may just pick it up.

There is a 1967 Impala SS fastback sitting at Orangeville Motors. We took a look at it and it is nice. It is a Southern Car and it has 134 miles on it. It has everything original. It is numbers matching. It has the Vinyl top. Disc brakes, Rallye Wheels which was the first year for them. It even has the redline tires. It has bucket seats, a tach and gauge package and shoulder belts. It is also an air conditioned car from the factory. It has the 327 motors with the Turbo 400 auto trans. It is in very good condition and runs well. It is seliling for $16,500 CAN. Would this car be a good investment since it has all the rare options and will it appreciate much in value in comi…

In all the complaining about GM have cheap interiors, I decided to check out hondas. We all wonder why they never complain about the civics digital speedo, when GM was blasted for using digital dashes. But did you know their stock stereo is 2 different colors and one of the colors doesn't even match the interior at any point? Compare that too a black tie stereo in the Cobalt. On the other hand, atleast you can replace the stereo in the civic unlike the accord.

Has everyone seen the little 20-inch tall, 10 pound Nepalese teenager that's gunning for the world's record for Shortest Boy? He's a funny little tyke, mugging for the camera in the video clips that are on the net. He's going all out to win the title. I think he should win... why? He's got a lot going for him. He'd make a great spy. He'd make a great porn star. He'd make a great karate instructor. He makes me feel tall. Anyway, let's wish him the best for a good life.

Simpson walked away with Chrysler Crossfire on Thursday, selecting the winning key that turned the ignition to the $50,000 luxury car at the Style Villa, one of the numerous luxury freebie suites set up for celebrities during the week of the Video Music Awards. Besides free makeup, liquor, clothes, watches, private jet discounts and motorcycle leases, the suite featured Chrysler, which offered stars the opportunity to select a car key at random. It's the last weekend of summer. I'm sort of looking forward to cooler weather...but not too cool. What are you folks doing? I get on a plane tonight and fly up to Mom's (that's PDX). Since I will inevitably get in a fight with her (she's a supreme pain), I will take the rental sled up to Vancouver BC for a few days and come back down just in time to catch my flight. This will be my first flight with the new "bans" in place. Unbelievable...no toothpaste, suntan lotion, deodorant or any of that stuff in the cabin. I wonder what check-in and the security line will be like. Everybody, have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day and report back.

tonight, Vikings / Cowboys so the Vikes hold a 10-3 lead late into the 4th quarter. Dull, but solidly played game. You don't care if J.T. I suck again, er, JT O'Sullivan gives the game away because he does suck, you expect it, and its JUST PRESEASON FOOTBALL. Ok, well, he didn't lose the game, but the cowboys get the ball for the final drive and march down and score a touchdown with like 15 seconds left. that makes the score 10-9. NOW, what next? Obvious. Go for two points to either win or lose the game. Let's get it over with and go home. NOT EXACTLY. in a strange twist of fate....the Tuna (Bill Parcells) decides to kick the extra point and go into OT. …

I know GM has made some 10 bad mistakes in the past: 1.Arrogance. 2.The Phase Out Of Oldsmobile. 3.The Addition of SAAB. 4.Pontiac,BUICK,GMC dealers(how about Pontiac,Chevrolet Dealers, GMC,Hummer and Buick,Cadillac Dealers?) 5.Bad styling. 6.The AZTEK. 7.GEO Prisim/Toyota Corolla/Pontiac Vibe. 8.Lack of investment in Saturn Products(post 1996). 9.Over Compensation. 10.Layoffs. But can these be reversed? Some Maybye, others, no. I get a chuckle every time I hear Pontiac,Buick,GMC dealers. Maybye its that Pontiac is associated with Buick, and that could draw away customers from the Octogenarians choice, and Hummer with Cadillac? I mean, when I think o…

So. on monday I had the afternoon off and was running around town trying to get some stuff done. I am taking a couple classes up at NDSU this fall so i ran up to get everything paid up and ready to go. I get all of it done quickly as I am parked illegally in a parking lot not far from the union. I hop in the Impala and back out of my spot, put it in drive and am about to head forward just as a professor in a brand new lexus ES backs right into my door...............went through the whole reporting thing and went to go get an estimate.......$1300, and her insurance company doesn't even know if they are going to pay for it because it was a parking lot accident.
