A sign of the Gay Apocolypse!!!!! I was driving around on some back roads south of my house for something to do, being my bored ol' self. Well, I suddenly came across this sign. Just look at it. We have the town of Dubois (pronounced Do-Boys, which makes this whole occurance alot funnier) 10 miles ahead, Paradise 2 miles to the left, Desire 5 miles to the left, Panic 7 miles to the left, and Stump Creek a mile to the right. If the names weren't wacky enough... if you take 10, divide it by 2, add 5, times that by 7, and subract 1... You get 69!!!!! Hahahaha!!!!!! :rotflmao:

I have Windows XP. If the mouse doesn't move for a while, my computer goes to "notepad", mspaint", "calculator" and other places, by itself, then it clicks back to the screen I was viewing. What do I go into to stop that nonsense? Is that some sort of "demo" I can get rid of? Also, I have some movies on VHS that I don't want to throw away. Is there a machine that will record my VHS tapes onto DVD directly? I don't want to buy the machine, I just want to maybe rent it or take them somewhere and have them converted. Thanks for any help.

My band, Art Of Convulsion, has just finished recording our first demo at Burning Sound in Niagara Falls, Ontario. It was everyone in the band's first time in the studio. It ain't perfect (that would cost more), but it'll help get us out there. Check it out, and don't be too hard on us haha! http://www.aocmetal.com

I got back from Montreal Tuesday afternoon after our flight was cancelled Monday evening due to hail in Chicago. It was a good time over there...I did a lot of walking and sightseeing. Anyway, here are some interesting observations I had while I was over there. Everybody dresses up all the time. Doesn't matter if it's Monday morning, Saturday night, or Sunday afternoon...they're always dressed to go out on the town. I have never seen a place where strip clubs are right next to shoe stores and family eateries. Rue St-Catherine and Boulevard St-Laurient had little strip clubs and sex shops nestleld in among all the "family-friendly" businesses. People don't have m…

It's the first of October and I was surprised to see a smidgeon of color in the tree leaves. I'm definitely a warm weather animal, liking warm places such as CA and FL. However, I would have to say that fall is the most picturesque. I mean, a lot of places look like Thomas Kincaid paintings and, in this cooler weather, you can putz around in a sweatshirt or sweater, do the coffehouse thing and walk on forested paths. Beautiful. I will be going to Montreal and Quebec in exactly 2 and 1/2 weeks to take a week of vacation. I hope there's enough color when I get there. Every year, the peak time is slightly different. So, I voted "fall" for the beauty, though summer…

Yeppers... and he is also single agained. It just didnt work out between me and Erik. The distance killed us. We hadn't seen each other in about a month and half and barely talked at all anymore. So... I finally broke it off with him. He didn't really say much, so I cant say he didn't expect it in a way. And this is besides the fact that I ended up hooking up with a guy I had previously seen. It was one of those things I couldn't help. I wasnt getting what I needed from Erik. I mean, it's quite sad when straight guys will give you more affection than your own BF. So I just did and I don't regret it. I always meant to tell him, but like usual, he never had the time to t…

Motley Fool Is Ford Just Junk? Thursday August 24, 3:51 pm ET By Rich Smith Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Last year, one of the major headlines in the automaking world was that No. 2 U.S. seller Ford (NYSE: F - News) had its credit rating cut to "junk." This July, the firm lost its second-place slot in U.S. auto sales to Toyota (NYSE: TM - News). Earlier this month, with car buyers apparently agreeing that its cars are as junky as its credit, Ford again took the headlines when it announced dramatic production cuts. ADVERTISEMENT And today, the company detailed another plan designed to clear out unsold inventory and boost market share in one fell swoop --…

Okay, here's the situation: There's a local used car dealer that specializes in your run-of-the-mill used cars that have some age and miles under their belts and nothing but. However, there's a car on that lot that has caught my eye and I'm now seriously considering it. The car is a 1995 to 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora with the four-point-oh liter V8, painted a stunning Jade Green, and with just about every option you'd want. I have no clue as to the milage the car has, or if there is any problems, but I'm going to check this car out again. I really, really like it. The car isn't rear-drive like I like, but it has the V8 and it's a trade-off I'm willing to make. And that'…

http://www.gizmag.com/go/6245/ October 1, 2006 Researchers at the ETH Chair for Power Electronics have developed an electrical generator that spins at a world record 500,000 revolutions per minute (RPM) and scientists are hopeful they can achieve twice this speed to touch the magical million rpm. The matchbox-sized motor generates the equivalent of 100 watts, including the power electronics interface, and has an efficiency of close to 95 percent. Powered by a gas turbine, one tankful of fuel drives the generator for about 10 hours at peak 100 watt performance. These ultra small gas turbines could replace conventional batteries as a mobile power source and have a range …

When I was younger, I was an introvert. I had very few friends ... and didn't feel well liked, if even liked at all. Within the last few years, however, that has changed ... dramatically. I am now an extrovert. Yet, my current job (call center rep for an annuity contact center) is changing me back to an introvert. Most of the callers are unhappy about one thing or another (understandably, of course) ... and that grates on my nerves so much so that I have yet to go to a local cruise night this year. It doesn't help that I'm "tied to the desk" 24/7 while I'm at work. I get home and don't want to do anything; haven't even had the older 4 MCs out much this year. I cri…

In other words, nominate and vote for who you guys think should be recognized from their chopping or drawing skills. The winers could be posted on the home page and recieve a special page in which they'd be remembered until the following year when we could do it again. How does nomination and voting work? Anybody who wishes to nominate would put reply to the official thread with their name (one person per category!) If you wish to nominate 2 people ( 1 for each category), then before their name, put the category you would want them to be nominated in. EXAMPLE: …

By RICHARD TRUETT | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS 6:00 am, September 20, 2006 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Could Toyota break with 50 years of business practices and go outside the company for an engine? Well, I purchased a used white '06 G6 w/2.4l (29k, $12,900) -- which is what I was most interested after my Malibu went to car heaven. Here's some observations/opinions on my '04 Malibu: 1. *Easily* the most boring car I've ever owned. I went from washing my vehicles 1 once (sometimes twice) a week to maybe once a month. The car was as uninspiring to look at as it was to drive. It was truly an appliance. 2. The Ecotec 2.2 gets stellar gas mileage. I routinely pulled 400-450 miles out of 13-13.5 gallons of gas. Factor in that roughly half of those miles are stop-and-go rush hour traffic and those numbers look even better. 3. The light-gray interior seemed like…

6 Overrated Cars By Thomas Bey Automotive Correspondent - Every other Friday We couldn't leave “not good enough” alone. We have dared to question the validity of the rank of several cars among their peers. The reputations of the vehicles, we felt, are greater than the actual products. Our views offended a few sensibilities, but we felt the story needed to be told. Think Friends on four wheels. Rides making our overrated list are based on any number of reasons, which means it can be performance or design related, or both. Either way, we'll tell you why. All vehicles listed are 2006 models... Link to article. 1 - BMW 3-Series Our beef: Price and misapplied prestige…

Well my little sis is needing a new car. She is driving a 96 Bonneville now. She has basically run it into the ground, the odometer stopped a couple years ago but I'm sure it has passed the 200000 mile barrier by now. The dealer is not going to give us anything for it so we are just going to be keeping it around the farm for small parts runs and stuff like that. There is an 01 Silverado with about 150000 on it on the farm that my dad wouldn't mind getting rid of so we took that to one of the smaller local dealers to see what they would give us for trade. He told me about 6800 which isn't great IMO. We looked around a little more and my sis found a used 06 grand prix …

As time goes by, the influence of our fathers molds us into the people we are destined to be, yet, some things just never "take". I share some aspects of my father's personality, but some things about him remain mystifiers that I'll never adopt. For example, my father has a rather militant dislike for cats, wild rabbits, squirrels and groundhogs. He'd feel no remorse shooting them if they give him enough of a chance. I don't own a gun and don't want anything to do with them, and I have a "live and let live" attitude toward wildlife. I love my father and wouldn't change him. What things about your father seem out of step with the way you live your life? What things …

For one of my classes (ME 170 - CAD) we have to do a final design project (this is still quite a ways away though) and I was thinking maybe I could design some new disc brake and demonstrate how using 6 piston calipers is better than 4 piston calipers, etc. Anyways, I'm having trouble finding any websites with detailed descriptions of each part. This isn't a "this is the disc, this is the caliper" type of design. We have to create an engineering model of the brake, with all of the parts, even the smallest ones, and even the parts that connect to it (in this case from the brake pedal) to make it work. So, if anyone knows of a site that would have this sort of info, I'd …

Upon checking out a few Lucernes, I finally began to realize something. My Millenia rocks. Now, first off, let's ignore the obvious.. The Lucerne is a much bigger car, so things related to that, are not being compared. Also, being that my Millenia is not a top of the line model, but loaded otherwise. I compared it to a Lucerne that also wasn't top of the line, but loaded as well. Essentially the best you can get without the Northstar V8, the V6 CXL. Back in the day, my Millenia had an MSRP of $28,895 while the MSRP of a Lucerne CXL V6 is $29,280. A Millenia is similar in size to large Buicks of 1995, but still just midsize. Millenias were first built back in 93 as 94 m…

Every place I've ever worked (and college/univ., too, for that matter) had those cliques that went out and took their smoke breaks together. It's a weird cult of sorts, in my mind. I've also noticed that, working for architectural firms, most of the "smoking circles" were the less productive employees (in the firms I've been employed by)...and they seem to have more Jerry Springer type drama in their lives. Yeah, I know, I'm a stereotyping jerk, but now having worked for a handful of architectural firms, this pattern seems to hold up. Any observations about smoking cliques?

As many of you may know, I've been on antidepressants since March, Lexapro to be exact. They did their job, getting my out of my depression, for good news. Otherwise, the side effects were unbelievable. Weight gain from appetite increase... Problems with excessive yawning... Inability to orgasm during any form of sex... and Sleepiness and Insomnia both. Because of these, I've had a desire to stop taking them. Considering that I was in a "rut of life sucking" when I was depressed and was put on these, I figured it's about time to get off them. At the beginning of the school year for my kids, my wife was talking to one of the district supervisors and was told that they don't have enough people to take care of the custodial positions within the district. I thought about that for a bit and decided to help out. The idea was that I would work as a substitute custodian doing the 4 hour evening shift and then head up north to work my normal 9 hour graveyard shift working on airplanes. It started out working pretty well, the district substitute coordinator had me working most everyday like that. Then, last week, she called me at home and asked me to work on of the 8 hour shifts at one of the schools. She was pretty…

I'd like my Millenia to look like this, almost exactly. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/669611 I love the color, I love the wheels, I love the little non USDM details, I love that it has a 5 speed manual, I love how clean the engine looks, I love the tasteful two tone interior, I love... I just love the whole thing, even those wacky headlight washer nozzles. If I'm ever able... My Millenia will hopefully look like that in the future... *dreams*

My mom is going to move out and we get to keep our house so I want to turn the room that was once promised for me but taken by my aunt and then my mom. I FINALLY get my 2nd room back. This time I want to make it fun. I want to make it have a nostagic look with Hubcaps, etc. Any ideas on what I should use or anyone recommend anyhting or have anyhting laying around. I am already planning a trip to the wrecking yard to find a bench seat to convert into a sofa. I also want to find old license plates. I have some posters to put up as well as car models. I will have a Mopar wall, GM wall and a Ford wall. I tried that in my room and it didnt quite work. Any ideas or what colour …

It is my opinion that everyone viewing C&G should be registered, that there should be no "guests." I feel this way because whenever C&G has breaking news or a unique spy photo, the number of guests far outweighs the number of registered members. Perhaps it's no big deal, but I suspect that these guests are people who normally post to other car boards, and they merely view C&G to learn scoops and then share them with their usual audience. I guess I consider other websites as "competitors," and my loyalty is with C&G. To me, C&G has, arguably, at times, been the leading GM news website, and I hope that others will recognize and respect the site. …

PARIS (AP) - The French defense ministry on Saturday called for an internal investigation of the leak of an intelligence document that raises the possibility that Osama bin Laden may have died of typhoid in Pakistan a month ago but said the report of the death remained unverified. "According to a reliable source, Saudi security services are now convinced that Osama bin Laden is dead," said the intelligence report. linkity just in time for the mid-term elections

First, this is a small town rural area, so this stuff is not just another day. Thursday after school, a 12 year old boy was killed when a 22 calibor gun his 13 year old brother had, discharged. No one knows the details. this stuff horrifies me. I just cant imagine what the older boys head condition could possibly be in. This was up the county road another 3 miles from where our town road meets it. My daughter is in school with their 17 year old son. A divorced family of four boys I guess, moved up here recently, living with their father. The family has left town, cant blame them. The news people were like flies on $h! Friday. If I was the Father and had…

Since I graduated high school, I have been on a never ending quest to figure out what I want to do, because of this I have had several different majors(Education, Geology, Art History ((WTF??)), English, Business and Psychology are the highlights) and finally decided to take my education more slowly so I could focus on the big picture. Well, the big picture has finally led me to a path I can see myself following. After I get my Associate degree this coming December I will enroll at either Missouri State University or re-enroll at the University of Missouri-Columbia, regardless of which school I choose, I will major in journalism. And if I do become an automotive jou…

I found these funny... Facts about Mr. T 1. Every time a bell rings, Mr. T pities a fool. 2. Mr. T speaks only when necessary. His main form of communication is folding his arms and slowly shaking his head. Regardless of the situation, he is always understood. 3. Mr. T once punched Chuck Norris at the exact moment that Norris roundhouse-kicked Mr. T in the chest. The result was the 80’s. 4. Twenty-three. That’s the number of fools Mr. T has pitied in the time it has taken you to read this sentence. 5. Mr. T does not break wind. He destroys it. 6. Mr. T ended the civil rights movement by getting on a bus … all the caucasian people moved to the back. 7. Mr. T i…

In researching the Olds Aurora, I visited a fan site. I found the following at one of them. (Link to the site.) I think they should have used the Euro Civic Hatch as a base instead. The Bonneville looks nothing like a shoe unless you've seen an old Green Giant commerical and consumed three pints of Johnnie Walker.

There is one for sale nearby. It looks like its all origional. From some time warp, just pushed out of storage. Its origional paint, origional interior. It does have some lower rust, not real bad at all. Cant speak for the undercarriage which must also be rusty. The interior is great except for the drivers back. Seat bottom looked great. Its licenced and inspected since July so apparently the brakes and all is working, so maybe the underneath is not too bad ? I just looked quickly at it from the outside and have not talked to anyone. I have a feeling its been in a barn or something, covered up because the old paint just looks like old paint, not trashed. The price is…

I'd like to apologize for my post the other day to you...I re-read it and it definitely came off harsher than I had remembered writing it. I also apologize for taking it too personal; that was unacceptable and out of line. I do stand by what I said regarding the anti-American comments (yes, you make quite a few of them) because that's been building for a while, yet I still should have chosen my words a bit more carefully.

Got into a car accident today. I was taking a left leaving a shopping mall & the car (an '02 Sienna minivan -> damn yota's) across from me ran his stop sign. My '04 Malibu took it in the passenger front-corner -- HARD. Both airbags deployed (what a treat that was -- do you like smoke?). Bumper was crushed, hood caved in, fendor damaged. For those that aren't familiar with the Malibu, the pass.-side airbag is hidden behind the dash -- and when it deploys, it punches a hole in your dash to explode outward. I calc $3k in parts on the inside of my car alone (2 airbags + dash + labor). Car was still drivable -- but it did get pounded -- and NO I didn't take pict…

We had the Engineering Employment EXPO over the past three days here at U of I, and I talked to several different companies. The only three automotive companies that were there though were Honda, Toyota, and Ford. I talked to all three, but Honda said they don't hire anyone who doesn't have at least a status of sophomore, and Ford said it was hard to get a job as a freshman. Toyota, however, seemed to be pretty interested in anyone who wanted to go into the Automotive field. GM didn't come for some reason (even though their website said they were coming) so obviously I didn't get to talk to anyone from GM. I also talked to Cummins (seemed somewhat interested), Caterpill…

This should raise some debate around here, and I am interested to see if we could come to any kind of concensus. What do you think captivates the essence of a particular decade of design? Is there a particular model that comes to mind when you think of the '70s, for example? I will submit the following picture of an '82 Cutlass coupe as my thought of a quintessential '80s design. Let's hear those comments!

It was brought up in the Fourm Feedback thread. Is it possible to use cruise control in reverse? I think it could work. Ill have to try it out sometime. (in safe conditions) in a ford Aerostar. you can accelerate from a dead stop with cruise. so why wouldnt it work in Reverse. But my idle speed is like cruise in the morning have to ride the brakes on Masonic Blv. to keep it at 30. And no I dont have the Choke.

I just made some dinner and it turned out rather nicely, thought I'd share and see what creative ideas others have come up with. Take one of those packets of chicken noodle soup. Put it in the amount of water the instructions ask for, and begin to boil it. Take a collander (pasta strainer) and empty a package of spinach into it. Place the collander on top of the soup pot. As the soup boils, it will steam the spinach. The spinach will get a bit of chicken noodle flavour. Make sure you turn the spinach and stir the soup so they cook properly. Stick some Garlic Plus on the spinach, spoon out some soup and enjoy. I know steamed spinach is an aquired taste, but I like it. …

While I haven't been much of a fan of Motor Trend lately, I picked up the Sept/Oct issue of Motor Trend Classic for an article on the Corvair, and an interesting piece on the '59 Chevy's fins. This morning I'm going through, page by page, checking out the mag, and I find an editorial by Angus Mackenzie, entitled "History Lesson", and I swear, this man somehow got inside my mind and published what I (and others) have been thinking and posting here for years. Here are some excerpts: "...Henry Ford: 'History is more or less bunk. It's tradition. We don't want tradition...' The irony is Ford Motor Company might be in a whole lot less trouble right now if the folks who r…

1966 Chevrolet Turbo Titan III Here's an article in Time magazine in '65. It mentions the Titan. From the Magazine | U.S. Business Toronados, Turbos & TV Posted Friday, Jul. 23, 1965 While Washington talked safety last week, Detroit showed off some stylish new and future wares. Oldsmobile introduced its racy, 375-h.p. Toronado, first U.S. car with front-wheel drive since the Cord phased out in 1937. Some foreign automakers, notably France's Citroën, also market front-wheel cars. According to Olds engineers, front-wheel drive offers more traction and stability than conventional rear drive; it also eliminates the hump on the floor (because the transmission and d…

http://www.iihs.org/news/rss/pr061306.html Electronic stability control could prevent nearly one-third of all fatal crashes and reduce rollover risk by as much as 80%; effect is found on single- and multiple-vehicle crashes ARLINGTON, VA — An extension of antilock brake technology, electronic stability control (ESC) is designed to help drivers retain control of their vehicles during high-speed maneuvers or on slippery roads. Previous research found significant effects of ESC in reducing the risk of fatal single-vehicle crashes. Using data from an additional year of crashes and a larger set of vehicle models, researchers at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety have…

Just curious...this search that has stretched a couple months to replace my Avalanche (coming off lease in 5 weeks) is contiuning. My latest option is picking up something used in the US, and bringing it back to Canada. Prices are much more reasonable even after the exchange rate, as is the selection. After driving one here, of all things an 03 or 04 Escaldade ESV (maybe EXT), mainly because of the 6.0L. Maybe a Denali XL too. Important is that the wife likes it too (although I am sure she'd take a Suburban for a lot less $$, and no 6.0L engine). The one here I drove got sold the next day. I've read all up about the hoops that have to be jumped through at US Custo…
