I keep on admiring a 91 Sunbird LE sedan at a used car dealer in my town. It was a trade-in one owner car and it has only 128kms on it. It has been sitting there for about 6 months so the price has been lowered. They send I could have it for $200. I did the free history report on it and it turned up 0 records. It was owned by a little old lady lol. The paint is rough but the rust isn't bad. THe powertrain is in excellent condition. The car has a turn off though. The floor boards are getting soft and rotting. Can this be prevented before they open or can new floorboards be put in? The kms are legitimate as the car has a 6 digit odometer unlike the Aries. Nothing mechanical…

The topic of this post is exactly what the topic says, whats your next whip going to be? I bought an 06 malibu SS sedan in may this year and have enjoyed it thus far but Im ready to make the jump to entry luxury next time around. I just finished paying off my loan on the By so I plan on keeping it till summer-fall 08 and then I want to get a loaded 3.6 DI next generation CTS. I considered getting a CTS this past summer but decided that I didnt want to spend that much on a car that is this lat in its product cycle and has been overshadowed recently by the new imports. (I love the current CTS but its past its competitive prime since its already 5 year old) These are…

6. Sentra (new one) 5. Corolla 4. Elantra 3. Civic 2. Mazda3 1. VW Rabbit They seemed to have issues with the new Sentra. Of course they didn't like the Corolla because its spongy. They praised the Elantra as being spacious and a good commuter but its a flopper. The Civic is an acquired taste. the Mazda is a good car but it didn't win because of red dash lights. The Rabbit is the best overall. All models tested had sticks. They claimed that no Focus or Cobalt with stick was available to test.

No....not more cars to drive (er, at least not yet), but "Cars" to watch! Tuesday, November 7, 2006 ... Election Day ... AND the day "Cars" debuted on DVD. So, I voted ... then hightailed it to a local store to buy my very own "Cars" DVD ... and the soundtrack CD. Once I can find someone or somewhere with a large-screen TV and DVD player, I'll plan a gathering to watch "Cars". Anyone interested? http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...rticleId=115799 It looks like they went out of their way to drive it as softly as possible, to maximize fuel economy and make Toyota look good (or at least, not as bad) for once again delivering a vehicle that gets no where near it's promised gas mileage. Who drives at 60 mph on the expressway? That's below the speed limit on most interstate highways. Here in Ohio, most people whizz by at 70, and people say this is a state full of slow drivers. If they were testing - say - GM's new hybrid the Saturn Vue Green Line, I'd bet you money they would floor the acceleration at each traffic light, and push it at 80+ on the expresswa…

Alas, another spectacular road trip has ended [2003 I went out east; 2004 I went west through MO, KS, CO, WY, UT, NM, OK, TX, AR; 2005 I went east through TN, AL, GA, SC, NC, VA, PA, NJ, MD, WV, OH, MI, IN]. But, I had a blast, met a few more people for the first time, and visited some old friends. [it is amazing to me the number of people I have met over the last few years during my road trips. Someday, I’ll update that list … including all that I’ve learned … and post it .] Sadly, I missed some people along the way this time that I had hoped to meet…. Since this trip is different than my previous trips (1 week instead of 2 weeks … and PICTURES which I’ll post at a …

I need a history report on a 1988 Dodge Aries LE. It is for sale at my local Toyota dealer for $200. The salesman who I know pretty well said it was driven by an old lady who died and his buddy bought it. It currently has 41,000 kms according to him but I dont think that is right. It only has a 5 digit odometer so that is what it reads. It does run really nice but it needs new rear struts and the rust needs to be bondoed up. The car what rust proofed except for behind the drivers side passenger door and behind the rear wheels. If someone could PM me if they end up with one. I would really appreciate it. The VIN is 1B3BD46D8JC286776. Thanks. I really appreciate it. This wo…

I was wondering if I should go ahead into looking at a 1986 Pontiac Fiero 2M4 that is for sale in Orangeville. I spotted it on Craigslist. The car is an 86 w/ 80,000 kms. It needs a front bumper, brake work, and a new battery. What do you guys think? Are these cars potential problems. I have heard of many breaking down frequently. Would this be worth it ot just be a money pit? I dont think I would want to drive this in the winter so that is something that would turn me away. What do you think?

The Truth About Cars TWAT Awards 10. Chevrolet Aveo “Chevy likes to tout the Aveo as the “lowest-priced [new] car in America” and in spite of their warning “content may vary,” it’s easy to see how they achieved that goal. From the hollow-sounding doors, bargain-basement plastics and skinny tires to the coarse-sounding engine that strains when faced with even the slightest incline, it exudes “cheap” from every ounce of its being. The Aveo also refutes the smart shopper’s mantra “you get what you pay for.” In the case of this captive Korean import, you pay little and get even less.“ 9. It's been a rough year......And this came as a major shock.... A good college buddy of mine was killed by a drunk driver early this morning.. Blew right through a red light and hit him at about 65mph...(the guy was majorly speeding) T-boned his Impy on the driver's side....he never had a chance... He was on his way from spending the night visiting a buddy who was on leave... I'm not even sure how to take this right now. This is the THIRD friend I have lost to a drunk driver in 12 years..... His birthday was in a few weeks...but instead I'm helping his parents with the funeral (small family) doing whatever I can... This is real hard......

My beautiful wife spent the afternoon working on one of her home made soups and at 4:00 she had to go out to pick up some things so she turned the soup off because she didn't want it to burn, said she'd be back in an hour. Stupid me decides he's hungry and can't wait so I decide to turn the soup back on but then I come back to cheers and gears and forget to check on the soup. Next thing you know the front door opens around 5:15 and she asks what's burning? I am such an ass.

Into a... The Ram got a bit irritating both as a vehicle and in the mileage department (14.5mpg average over 280mi). Early impressions of this Freestyle are that its roomy, very comfortable, puts out respectable performance, and gives a nice view of the road without being perched too high. Nissan needs to reverse engineer this CVT because its surprisingly smoooooth and graceful in performance, not curiously 'hunting' like the Murano. Designwise, like a depressed Taurus wagon, but not too bad at all. On a humorous note, the guy I always deal with at Enterprise mentioned he also had two Sonatas and then quickly said, "But I wouldn't do that to you guys. Those things are…

About a month ago I was browsing the local Pontiac-Buick lot on a Sunday afternoon and I bump into my cousin's girlfriend's mother and her father who is 93. I had met them before at family events. I knew from talking to him before that he liked cars and that he had leased a 2002 Buick Century and when the lease was up in May he was supposed to give the car back and not get another one. It turns out the old guy couldn't go without wheels so he was back on the lot looking for a deal on an 06 and asked me if I would help him look around at different dealers to find him the color / model he liked. He wanted something different from the Century/ Lacrosse and decided on a G6. …

I just joined a gym, literally 5 minutes ago, online. It's only like 3 miles from my house. I stopped by there this morning and took a tour, led by a perky young lady. The place seems very low key, and I'm hoping it will help me keep fit over the winter. My biggest fear is looking like a complete doofus. Will the treadmill throw me off the back? Will I strangle myself when I drop the 25 pound barbell on my neck? I've never done anything like this before. I'm hoping it will be a good move. Does anyone else here belong to a gym? Do you have any funny or odd experiences you can share?

I think I've run this one before, but we have quite a few new people.Birth order is interesting and actually regarded as being somewhat psychologically valid. That being said, where are you in the birth order, how many kids are there and what are the genders of those older and younger than you? Also, which ones do you get along and not get along with? My answer: I'm the youngest of 2 - same parents for both - oldest is a brother. Do not get along with him (have not spoken with him since 1995, or thereabouts).

Can anyone explain why my connection has headed south literally overnight? Yesterday, I managed to get a decent dial-up connection of around 46.6. Tonight, I've gotten nothing but a lousy 28.8. Usually, disconnecting and reconnecting fixes the problem on the off chance it happens. But now, it's all I get. Running at half-speed just doesn't work. And I can't tolerate a slow connection. Any way I can get my connection back to normal speed? This is getting aggravating. If it helps, here's the Modem Log.

This is kinda of a interesting idea. I usually frown on even the thought of doing it, but due to some of the major sucesses I've seen ( friend-05 Sunfire/ Co-worker 03 Cavalier), it has my considering the idea myself.. Keep in mind, this is going to be the beater, not the main car. I want a nice, new car that I can baby. The only requirements is that is has air, a Cd player, and decently low miles... More than my rusty beater has now... So far I've nosed though the world of 03-05 cavaliers, due to the low price, decent on gas, and pretty easy to fix. So far I found a 03 LS sport w/ 52k for 5 grand, and 04 base sedan with 49k for 4500...both with repaire…

Yup so I got home just a while ago and checked my mailbox. Inside was a nice sized envelope from Chevrolet. "Cool!" I thought as I hurried into the house to open it. Sure enough, it is a foldout on the new Silverado. But... it only has pictures of the crewcab (well, there's one x-ray pic of an extended cab, but...) It strikes me as kind of cheesy. It feels like GM is cramming the super-expensive crewcab down our throats. What about those of us who would rather have a regular cab, or even extended? I am put off by this. Not the best place acoustically for heavy music. I saw Rush and Blue Oyster Cult there twice 30 years ago and the place just boomed, resonating on a certain bass frequency in the Balcony, but they were very loud concerts. People like Santana, Robert Cray, Jean Luc Ponty, Jeff Beck/Jan Hammer and even Uriah Heep did much better acoustically. Anyhow the Queensryche soundman did an excellent job considering and it was not stageringly loud. We abaondoned the balcony and went downstairs w…

Next-generation iPod Shuffle: 1 Gb (~240 songs), 8 hours battery. 1.6x1.1x0.46 inches, 0.55 ounces. CAD$90 / US$80. This thing is crazy small. I saw the pictures when I ordered it, but I still can't believe it now that it's here. It's got a clip on the back to clip in into your clothes, etc... I clip it into my work ID badge and hardly notice it's there. One thing I can't believe - the docking station loads all the data and charges the battery through the headphone jack! Alright, the old Lumina is getting long in the tooth (210,000) and it is time to start looking for a new ride. I have been looking at the LaCrosse as a potential replacement. I really like the 3.8 for the balance of gas economy and power. I will use this car for my daily driver and I average 200 miles a day for work. Does anyone here own one or have any experiences with the LaCrosse? I was looking at the CXL trim level and will most likely buy one that is off lease <30,000 miles.

Toyota Buys 5.9% Stake in Isuzu I'm thinking we're going to want to move Isuzu to the "Other Guys" section now... Toyota announced today that it will spend $373 million on a deal with Isuzu that will transfer 5.9% of the truck- and diesel-maker to the giant Japanese automaker. Toyota's goal in purchasing a stake in Isuzu is to bolster its diesel portfolio, which apparently lags behind other major automakers like cross-town rival Honda who announced in September it would have diesel-powered passenger cars for sale in the U.S. within three years. Today is my 5th anniversary of joining Cheers and Gears. A warm thank you to Walt for inviting me here at the start, and to all the moderators, members, contributors, artists, writers, staff members, advanced member members, as well as the trolls (for making me laugh). I have spent half of my time on the internet with Cheers and Gears, having gone online in 1996 (then it was mainly Buletin Boards known as BBS' on a 14.4 modem). It has been a privelage and an honour to see the site grow, change, and advance over the years. I would like to say that one of my very first posts then still holds true today! 5 years of spare time, hows that?

Tonight, I went to Barnes and Noble's cafe' where I study. Yeah, I know, I'm boring. I know the girls who work there and when I was in Montreal for 1 week and came back to town, they asked me "Where have you been?" They told me they notice it when "the regulars" aren't around for a while. At any rate, we started talking about who "the regulars" were and they told me as such. They also told me "the regulars" all have nicknames ...and that we all have quirks! I asked them what mine was. They told me it was "Tea Guy" because I always order tea and it has to be in a mug, not paper. I busted up. Then they told me some other nicknames for other patrons...some were NO…

I just got back from Quebec. Went to "Second Cup" every morning and did my to do lists and written chores while drinking some good cups of tea. I like the Earl Grey flavor. The basic breakfast blend is good too. I absolutely detest herbal teas. Drinking a hot beverage to start off a cool morning in Montreal was great! At a more formal breakfast, I may get both the orange juice and the tea. I don't drink much coffee, though. What's your morning drink of choice?

Well, as most of you know, I'm part of Kettering University and, in order to stay a student, one must complete about 6 months of co-op with a company each year in addition to the same amount of schooling at the university. Well, today was a co-op fair and I was starting to lose hope on finding a job since this was my third co-op fair and I've been to about three interviews. Well, as I was leaving my dorm to head down to "the fair," I turned around realizing I had forgotten my belt. As I went to reach for my belt, I felt my phone vibrate and didn't recognize the number. I answered it anyway and it was my co-op manager telling me that a company that I had interviewed for w…

On Fall Sundays, I usually get the urge to cook something. This evening for dinner I made meatballs to put in with pasta sauce and shells. I baked them in a cooking bag... but darn it, I made too many. What do you guys do with your extra balls? I guess I could make gravy for them and serve them over noodles, or I could buy some sub rolls and put some pizza sauce and mozzarella on top for a meatball sandwich. Any other idears?

After riding the TEST TRACK ride at EPCOT a little over a week ago, the wife and I cruised around the showroom looking at what GM had on display. She liked the Ming Blue Buick Lucerne CXL V6 a lot and hated the maroon Chevy HHR 2LT. I really liked the Saturn AURA XR - but she likes the Lucerne more. So I ask for your opinion on this matter. Which do you think is the better buy/car??? Feel free to post your thoughts in a reply after voting. And TIA!!!

Last night, a friend of mine was driving his VW Golf on Highway 20 going about 70 MPH when he reached down for a Gatorade bottle and ended up drifting onto the gravel shoulder. He tried to correct it but lost control and rolled into the ditch at least five times according to witnesses. He hadn't been drinking or anything. Luckily, he was wearing a seatbelt and the airbags went off. If you look at the roof on the passenger side, it's dented in pretty deep. Another friend of mine almost rode with him but had to change plans at the last minute. If he had ridden with him, he probably wouldn't be here today. Scary stuff. He ended up walking away from the scene with min…

Hello. My girlfriend is looking to replace her '99 Cavalier within the next month or two. At first she was thinking of getting a Cobalt, but within the last few days she has shifted over to the G6 (a little of the reasoning being the G6 comes with a dark green exterior color since she likes British Racing Green), but so far she's looking into getting a 4 cyl. sedan (which with all the options and so prices out near $19,000). From fellow G6 owners in here, I'm wondering if you have had any problems/complaints about it, as well as the positives of the G6. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't want to turn this into politicizing, or an attack on any one group or party, though it is clear what party my outrage is against. I am not trying to attack the group, but moreso the leaders of it who are in office now. The ones who are, sadly, corrupting their party and leading this nation down ever more tenser halls. Why should we divide so much? Why can't we all just agree and meet in the middle, that's supposed to be the beauty of our government, is that we have two parties to check and balance each other for the benefit of the public. One party that favors more government involvement and one that favors less. But where did we go wrong that all we can do is t…

You can look at certain days of the year in Wikipedia, and it will tell you all the historical things that happened on that day in various years. My birthday seems to be fairly significant in American history, a few times. Interesting... June 19: * 1846 - The first baseball game under recognizable modern rules is played in Hoboken, New Jersey, United States. * 1862 - U.S. Congress prohibits slavery in United States territories, nullifying the Dred Scott Case. * 1865 - Over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, slaves in Galveston, Texas, United States, are finally informed of their freedom. The anniversary is still officially celebrated in Tex…

I live near Flint, MI and I know that GM didn't move its headquarters to Detroit until about 1923...I'd like to find out where their original headquarters were located up here. I've been checking all over for weeks on end trying to find out where it was. Does anybody know or have any ideas on how TO find it?

This Midwestern city has long been in the upper tiers of the annual ranking of the nation’s safest and most dangerous cities, compiled by Morgan Quitno Press. Violent crime surged nearly 20 percent there this year, when the rate of such crimes rose much faster in the Midwest than in the rest of nation, accord…

We did another fall foliage drive today, out to Breckenridge going the back way and then over to Vail and then back to Denver with a side trip up to Berthoud Pass.. great weather and scenery, and saw some interesting cars along the way..it was a nice, relaxing 250 mile drive. In a fenced-in lot by a garage in Englewood, we saw a couple of sad '59 GMs--a pale green Pontiac wagon that had hit something hard on the left front, and a black flat-top Olds 4dr..both were rusty and looked like they had been there a long time.. At a gas station outside Conifer, saw a white '56 Packard 4dr. Saw a nice red '67 Camaro SS in Fairplay...saw a tired primered gray '67 Cougar in Emp…

I am going to be starting a job soon and I have some money saved up so I may try to find a good Grand Am coupe for sale. I absolutely have loved Grand Ams, any generation and I have always wanted one as a first car. Pontiacs are great and I think I may rather get a Grand Am. Sporty looks, fair amount of power. I think I might try to find a 90s Grand Am coupe. I see plenty around but no body seems to be getting rid of any. They are beautiful cars nonetheless. I am scrapping all ideas except for a Grand Am, possibly a Sunfire, and some 3800 V6 vehicles. My dad has the idea of me getting a car with absolutely no rust. Up here with all the salty roads, there is no such thing…

No, not the one with the Cobalt, but the one with the 2000 Malibu. While it was a pleasant car, her's wasn't the most reliable. So after 4 or so years of having it, she has traded it for a new car... her first since 97. So what does she get? That's right, a black 2006 Hyundai Elantra (her's not pictured). Not only did so go Korean, she got a black Korean. This is a changer for her since she's always had GM vehicles and always had lighter colors. As you guys would say, she has successfully moved to the dark side... literally. I'm going to drive it and get some pics sometime this week/weekend.

Germans to Join Together with Bluetec Here's where strength in numbers comes to the fore. Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen have joined forces and will begin equipping all their U.S.-slated diesel offerings with the Bluetec system. In doing so, they will set a standard for diesel offerings in the States, have a common, marketable brand and will have massive purchasing power over Bosch who creates most of the components necessary. Audi and VW have already signed on to the deal, with BMW's CEO, Norbert Reithofer and our favorite mustached-marketer, Dr. Z of DaimlerChrysler, expected to work the details out this week. A formal announcement of the automaker's intent…

Notice anything? I've decided to stick a bumper sticker on my Milly. It's unique in that I made it myself. Course, it's an actual bumper sticker, I just had no way of purchasing one like it. So I went into one of my photo editing programs, changed it from black to as close to my Milly's color as I could. Then I printed it out, water proofed it with clear tape, bought some double sided tape, and stuck it my bumper. It's a bit outdated, but atleast it'll get the message across without being obvious like a rainbow sticker or such. I just had to do something to combat the BS I've seen, heard of, and had to deal with in this town.

Here's a topic to discuss all the neat small to mid economical crossovers available. Which do you like, which do you not. Vue Element HHR PT Cruiser Caliber Compass Patriot Escape Outlander CRV Equinox Mazda5 Forester I like what the new Jeep patriot offers. I've always like the VUE, and the new hybrid should be cool. The new RAV4 sucks. It does have hp but its interior is a mess and still no rear bumper.

The following image can be found at Saturn's website and in the most recent Aura brochure. Is it just me or does that look like a very sloppy photoshop by MDM on a bad hair day? Some of the bodylines present in other photos can't be seen in this one. GM, I love ya', but you gotta fire the guy who threw that photo together. It offends my eyes.
