Today my friend and I (the one with the Corolla) were getting out of clas to go to somewhere in Mass to take pictures for my photography class. We got in my the car (I had the Intrepid today) and I started it up. I went behind the seat to get my camera out. Apparently he either forgot I started it or didn't think I turned the key al; the way because he asked Him: "Is the car on?" Me: "yeah" I put it in reverse back out Him: "Wow, it's really quiet" Seems every time we go for a ride in it he's more impressed with the car. So how quiet (GTOs and other loud V8s/purposely loud vehicles need not apply ) or how refined is your vehicle's engine? Like I've said before…

Here's the situation: Recently my catalytic converter started to go. It's made me start thinking... the car is 15 years old, runs VERY well, but there are a million and one "little" things wrong with it, and the body isn't in the best shape--the paint job is HORRIBLE, and there are some signs of rust in the wheel wells as well as around the door frames. The interior gets wet when it rains because seals are going, and the dash is cracked in half from when my radio was ripped out. The fuel gauge isn't accurate, the transmission gauge isn't either (not that it matters, you know what gear you're in by how many clicks you shift the stalk). Things in the trunk get wet and …

Sooo this is why I haven't been around much the last week or so: I've just started my Freshman II term here at Kettering University, which is also my Pledge term to become a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Not only do I have a busy academic schedule, but I've become very involved this term. I've got 3 hours in meetings for my Pledge class along with another hour or two of meetings for the actual fraternity. Along with that, I've got philanthropy/community service to complete along with projects in and around the DTD house. I'm an active member in the Residential Hall Association once again this term, along with being a participant in sports, working out, and…

Hey guys: For those of you who celebrate it, have a great Easter Weekend. For the "mackerel snappers" in the bunch (derisive name for Catholics), remember it's Filet-O-Fish for lunch....just that 1 day a year....c'mon, we'll get through it. Sure would like to find a nice juicy broiled shark steak for dinner, though. Leave for Portland tomorrow and come back down Sunday night. My Mom said she won't be cooking any of the 3 days and, for Easter Sunday, these friends of hers who transplanted up there from LA within the last 6 months invited us to eat at their place. What are C&Ger Easter plans?

I have a couple of questions as I have gained insight on how to put a V8 in a Fiero without having to cut the frame. First off, the engine is a 4.9L Cadillac V8 from an 88-94 Cadillac FWD. How relaible are these engines? Also were they considered Northstar or was that the 4.5L? Something I can't quite remember is if the Fiero 2M4 is unibody or is it body on frame? I will be getting the Fiero from the junkyard if this works out. I want to know because they will be quite rusty and the panels and underbody will need to be done. The 4.9L is from an 89 Deville that I am looking at. It is about $900 at a local dealer but they would take less. The body is really rusty but the en…

One of my friends over AOL was telling me there was this new Starburst commercial out for Berries & Cream that was hilarious. They told me to watch it on YouTube. So I watched it, and....it was probably the stupidest commercial I have seen in the last few months (and I've saw some pretty wacked out ones in Greece). I laugh fairly easily at funny things, but I just sat there thinking "am I missing something?" Then I look at the comments below on YouTube and everyone is in an uproar at how amazing this commercial is and how they just can't stop laughing..."funniest commercial ever!!" So, I'm looking for a... 2001-03 Aurora 4.0 2003-05 Park Avenue Ultra 1998-04 Regal GS 1996-99 Riviera (supercharged only) Preferrably all four. Yeah, right. I wish. But reasonably, one that's very well-equipped, very good condition, and with very low miles (under 50k). Difficult? Maybe. But this isn't something that'll be purchased today or next week. Likely within the next few months. So, if anyone knows of anyone with one of the above, let me know.

In the latest episode of the show in the UK, Clarkson labelled one of the country's cars the "worst in the world" and "unimaginative junk, with no soul, no flair and no passion". He then attacked the Perodua Kelisa with a sledgehammer and hung it from a crane with a one-tonne weight attached before blowing it up. So my familt and I went to mass today...I'm not really religious for various reasons, but my mom insisted so we went (this includes my girlfriend). Partway through the mass the priest asked everyone to raise their had and repeat what he said (I forget the words), but this is exactly what it looked like: My girlfriend said that honestly scared her...and when you thin about it it is kinda freaky...it's like a cult...a really big one. Ain't religion great? (not really, but it can be entertaining).

I just got done doing a mileage conversion for the Opel Zafira. The one sold in Mexico gets approx 32 mpg. The others sold throughout the world with the 1.8 4-cyl get 37 to 38 mpg with 140 hp on tap. The diesel versions get over 45 mpg! We would save over $170 per month in gas by owing a Zafira over the Suburban. Yeah, it's not as big, but with the money saved I could pay for the roof carrier, and get a decent hotel when we travel. Heck, a trip to LA in a Zafira compared to our Suburban would save us over $300!! Even with the bigger engine. GM I WANT A ZAFIRA NOW. Please get your act together and bring us the good stuff. WASHINGTON - Employers ramped up hiring in March, driving the unemployment rate down to 4.4 percent, matching a five-year low. It was a surprisingly strong performance in an economy that has otherwise shown signs of sluggishness recently. The new snapshot, released by the Labor Department on Friday, also showed that employers boosted their payrolls by a strong 180,000 in March, the most since December. Workers’ also saw their paychecks get bigger. The fresh figures suggested that companies are not feeling a need to dramatically clamp down on hiring in the face of the slower overall economic activity and the deep housing slump. “There’s been worry that housing troubles…

After almost ten weeks of stress, aggravation & many, many dead ends I have finally sold my Super 88 to a worthy buyer. At 11:20 in the morning of April 4th 2007 I received a "subtantial" sum of money in my PayPal account. Just a few short hours later I was driving my 1959 Buick LeSabre home in a blizzard. After 10 years of dealing with Property Management in one way or another, I'm finally out. I start working for UPS next Monday. I can only say AHHHHHHH. Relief . . . 4-1-07/ GM Headquarters: Today, Rick Wagoner has announced an unanomous decision to cancel all further production of the GMC Acadia. "With the Saturn Outlook and the upcoming Chevrolet Lambda (called "Criuse," just announced today) on the roads, and GMC being known for a tough-truck brand, it will be pulled from the production line." There is a rumor that a replacement, supposedly more rigid and GMC-like, according to insiders, is expected to debut at the Frankfurt show. Recalls for the Acadia are planned to start Tuesday, along with production halt. "The idea of pulling the Acadia off the market is probably a good idea, for GMC's sake and its reputation." Bob Lutz …

As I've traveled, I've often wondered why people decide to live and work in the towns/cities in which they live/work. Mostly, I think about this in terms of the small "mom and pop" type stores or shops or service centers that cater to only a small geographical region. Of course, with the internet, in most cases, those same businesses can reach farther than ever before. Yet, I wonder what brought them to set up a brick'n'mortar business and home in the location they have chosen. Was the decision made because of the location of family? The location of friends? Or, was it the cost of living? The cost of doing business? Or, was it due to a particular opportunity? And…

http://www.cbc.ca/cp/Oddities/070403/K040302AU.html ABOARD TRAIN V150, France (AP) - A high-speed French train with a souped-up engine has broken the world speed record for conventional rail trains, hitting 570 kilometres an hour. The black-and-chrome train with three double-decker cars, named the V150, bettered the previous record of 515.3 km/h. However, it fell just short of the ultimate record set by Japan's magnetically levitated train, which reached 581 km/h in 2003. note: That's about 350 mph.

To reach into the rear seats, on the back of the front seat is a handle you pull up, and a black button is underneath it. Press it, and the seat slides forward gracefully and silently. The light sand-colored leather was incredible and comfortable! The dash had a sliver outline, which was gorgeous! The features the salesman explained were like what one would find in a Bentley! Unbelievable: it's at the University of Washington in Seattle More unbelievable: in the Architecture Building They weren't students, per se, but it was a murder-suicide between a research associate and a man who was obviously obsessed with her. One of thinks of smug, morose, safe Nordic Seattle and this is hard to believe. On the South End, maybe. But on the UW campus? I rarely visit the place as I want to forget the school experience there. However, if I ever do, it will be creepy.

I went to Palm Sunday mass today at St. Peter's and saw the Pope! One of our instructors knows someone here in Rome who was able to get us tickets so we could have seats in the piazza rather than standing, so I was in the middle near the obelisk. I was surrounded by mostly Italian speakers, but there were people from Poland, Germany, Mexico, Spain, Brazil, and a ton of other countries there (flying flags). The mass was long...about 3 hours...and the sun was beating down on my neck, but it was definitely an experience. ... About a certain 1969 Firebird that's for sale about five miles away from me. The asking price is $6000 and the car really only needs new tires, some bodywork, and paint to be mostly restored. The interior is in very good shape, although it does need a new headliner (there isn't any sagging ... just a tear above the driver's head ... and if that wasn't there, I really wouldn't spend anything on the interior at all for many years to come), and I wouldn't rule out some engine detailing later down the road. But, overall, the car is in very solid shape with only minor surface rust in a few places and with solid floorboards and wheel wells. The color is a very faded brigh…

My dad's new work truck. Had his Silverado turned in for a... Yep, a Ford F250. It's big, it's red, and it's tough (according to Ford, right? ). Also, this thing has some meaty tires... Damn.

Did anyone else see it? It was just on CBS. Basically, the Robot goes and gets a bunch of jobs still (this time there are more - it stocks shelves and does a couple more new things), and then at the end it "walks" to the junkyard and sees a big crane putting an old car on top of the scrap heap, and then wakes up. I guess this time they're showing dead cars instead of a robot dying. Hopefully there aren't any complaints this time

So yesterday, the day after my birthday and the day there's supposed to be a party with my friends started fine. I got up early for once, took a shower, and got ready to go to my only class on Fridays (which is only 50 minutes long). I get in the Intrepid with my new mp3 player, plug it in and off I go. Only about a mile from the house the Check Engine light comes on. I pull over immediately into the parking lot of a new apartment building that just went up. And turn the car off. The engine temp was reading normal, the oil levels were fine, and no ominous smoke or sounds were emitting from the engine bay. I reluctantly start the car back up, listen to it...and it sounds f…

I kinda happened across this old issue of C&D while I was cleaning some stuff. There are some real gems in here. The cover car is the Plymouth Pronto Spyder, which wasn't a bad looking concept car, kind of the Solstice concept before there was a Solstice concept, a lot of the part for the concept were plucked from existing Chryslers, mainly the Neon. The Upfront page is all about the 1999 Oldsmobile Alero, which they didn't give driving impressions on, later in the issue they test the 1999 Pontiac Grand Am and didn't bitch about the styling or interior. Other tests include the 1999 Mercury Cougar, the Dodge Ram 1500 SS/T which they called "The last of the perfo…

I just found a 1980-84 Oldsmobile Omega Brougham Coupe at the wrecking yard. The car is beautiful with its tan paint that is only chipped. There is absolutely no rust on the body. Every single piece of chrome trim that should be there is there. It is clean and has all original wheel cover all matching. The best part is, the interior. It is a darker brown. The cloth seats are mint with no rips and the dash is the same. No paint faded and every chrome piece is in the interior. The wood trim is all there and not scratched nor pieces missing. It also has the bucket seats and it may have the V6. The interior was vacuumed and cleaned before it was brought to the junkyard as was…

My wife Kimberley and I are going to take a 6 week vacation in July/August of this year. Two weeks we will spend home in Plano, Texas visiting my parents and extended family. However we saw a commercial on TV about visiting Utah. It looked really cool and neither of us has ever been there. So we were thinking about renting a car in Texas and driving to Utah and back since we will have four weeks to play like little kids in Utah. So does anyone on these great forums live there, or have you visited there? If you have let me know, I would like to know what you thought of Utah. Thanks in advance!

With the introduction of the Car Of Tomorrow, Ford is staying with Fusion, Toyota is running Camry, Dodge switched to Avenger which is the smaller car that real-life competes with the others, why isn't Chevy going to Malibu instead of using Impala? Impala is just not the same class as the others. I know it is "large mid size" but come on... This would have worked if Dodge stayed with Charger, Ford moved to Taurus (which also doesn't work that well) and I don't know what Toyota would use, Avalon maybe? I know they are trying to stimulate sales of the Impala, and in a couple of years it will be more appropriate with rear drive coming back, but the new Malibu would ben…

So, I go to visit my girlfriend after lunch today, and I see this (Yes, I had to circle around to get a better look)... Its facing westbound in an eastbound lane. I think one of the decorative rocks took out the rear axle. Maybe not. Regardless, someone got one hell of a nice start to the weekend. Sorry if the pic quality is meh; used my camera phone. Oh, and I don't remember if I've posted these before. If not, here are my "Dude, you just f**ked up your Hyundai" pics from a few months ago...

First off the TWCC trivia will be coming soon, don't think I have given up or forgoten. My life as of late has been vefry hectic, some of it I'm not going to get into since it's just personal B.S. I have to deal with but other stuff I'll fill you guys in on. I'm still trying to sell the Super 88, rebuilt the fuel pump and reinstalled it last week. My buyer out of Kansas City, MO has dicked me around for just over 6 weeks now. I'm done dealing with excuses. I have bent over f***ing backwards for this guy and I keep getting the runaround as to the actual purchase. You kmnow what they say... money talks, bull$h! walks. Earlier this week I …

Happy birthday to CARBIZ, our member who refreshingly is one of the most "no bull$h!" people on this forum. Enjoy your day up in T.O.! Any plans? BTW, have you seen that great video of that street interview gone south on a street in downtown Toronto? It was so funny, that about 5 of us watched it DAILY at work for about a month, almost like a ritual.

Just curious how many of you leave the dealer advertising on the vehicles you own. The stickers/emblems, license plates and frames, or other... My cars don't have any dealer advertising on them. Sometimes I really don't understand why people keep that stuff on, so if you do please explain. Especially if you buy a used car from Enterprise car sales or something. Why would you want people to know you bought a used rental car? For some reason they didn't put anything on my Impala when I bought it used from a Chevy dealer, which I thought was odd. No rear frame or sticker, and no front plate even though the front bumper had already been drilled by the previous owner/…

At 1000 RPM, your engine is REVOLVING at 16.67 times per second. At 3000 RPM, we're looking at three times that, or 50 times per second. At 7000 RPM, we're speaking of 116.67 times per second. And those high-revving 12,000 RPM engines hit a completely outrageous 200 revolutions per second! Am I effing insane? Are these numbers completely off? I'm going crazy looking at these numbers. How the hell is that possible?! If you take into account that these engines are four-stroke, does that mean they're actually doing four times more rotations than they are revolutions? Or less?

Ok, so I'm in L.A. last week and, like I used to do when I was growing up there, I would go to LAX to see planes land and take-off. As some of you know, the runways are perpendicular to the ocean and the communities of Westchester and El Segundo are to the north and south of the airport property, respectively. The Westchester side has no viewpoints per se but, on the El Segundo side, there is a knoll with a viewing park and telescopes. So I take my rental car there. It never fails. I always get into a conversation with somebody up there about planes and an hour has gone by...easily. They, too, know all the models, how much thrust the engines have, which airline has …

On the sixth day God turned to the angel Gabriel and said "Today I am going to create a land called Canada. It will be a land of outstanding natural beauty, it shall have tall majestic mountains full of mountain goats and eagles, beautifully sparkling lakes bountiful with carp and trout, forests full of elk and moose, high cliffs over looking sandy beaches with an abundance of sea life, rivers stocked with salmon.." God continued, "I shall make the land rich in oil so to make the inhabitants prosper, I shall call these inhabitants Canadians, they shall be known as the most friendly people on the Earth." "But Lord," asked Gabriel, "don't you think you are being too generou…

It all started this morning on hempstead turnpike(6 lanes). I stopped at a stoplight like every normal citizen when all of a sudden the saturn got hit from behind. Not enough to deploy the airbags, but hard enough that I was shaking. So, I look back and see some late 20-something year old guy wiping coffee off of his dash. So I put my hazards on and pulled into the nearest parking lot. He followed. Of course he was in a new Sonota. Fortunatelly there was no damage to my car. His front plate was dented but it was his fault. Turns out he was looking to get his coffee for a sip and didn't stop at the light....therefore crashing into me. So, I wasted 5 minute of my life freak…

It's long been touted that virtual violence can easily replace actual violence. Apparently, the mayor of Mexico City wants to see if that'll hold up. --- Mexico City (Mexico) The new mayor of Mexico City is offering criminals a free Xbox 360 for every handgun, and a free PC for higher caliber firearms such as assault rifles, that are handed into police in an amnesty, according to Reuters. The move is being trialled in one of the more dangerous neighborhoods in the city and will be extended elsewhere if it proves a success. Already 17 handguns have been handed in, with the ex-criminals walking away with an Xbox 360 with which to conduct crime and mayhem in a less des…

I'm going to California for 10 days with my wife in April. Landing in LA. Running up Coast Highway, Monterey/Carmel, Napa, flying out of San Francisco. Also doing a 1day Skip Barber course at Laguna Seca Was also considering renting an XLR or something, just for a day, but the cost is ludicrous. ($350/day). Now thinking perhaps a Mustang convertible for the week. Looking for some suggestions/advice: - anyone been to Skip Barber, any experiences to share - anyone know where I can rent an XLR/Corvette for a reasonable amount? - anyone know of anyone renting CTS-V's? - anyone care to suggest any 'must see' places/things in the LA area?(other than Hollywood/B…

Some of us organized a get-together over at LS1GTO.com, and we had a pretty good number of GTOs out together today, it was a lot of fun cruising around. We then invaded the Pontiac dealership and took some pics there too, which was cool (except my camera died shortly after that). We went in to the dealership and told them that we had 7 GTOs out front all together, and asked if we could take some pictures. Anyways, here are some pics...

So OK, my neighbor (20-something with a wife and kid) comes running over and slams my doorbell. "Dude! Come look at my new car!" Poor kid's been trying to get out of an '88 Festiva he's been driving since his ZX2 engine died, which is fine... but he got... a...Scion xB. Dark blue. I mean, at least it's not one of those "special" colors, but omg. He told me to jump in, we took a ride around the block. I was hanging on to the "oh $h!" handle the whole time. He's happier 'n a hog in $h!. I'm kinda sad. You know that old joke about the kid on Christmas morning, throwing the toy aside while playing with the box? :AH-HA_wink:

Ugh! Another Saturday night has come and gone. My life has settled into such a rut. I can sit in a chair and practically imagine the entire weekend in my head to the extenet that the experience would be nearly the same as living it. Shopping, cleaning, laundry, paying bills, going to the gym, going out to the bars...it's all become so repetitive and boring, I'm going a little crazy. Even the coming of spring just adds more home maintenance and yardwork into the mix. I try to shake things up to the extent I can, but being single I have to do everything myself. Getting the things done I have to do leaves me only a small amount of time for fun. All of my friends t…

This car looks exactly like our old Concorde before the transformation. Camino, I don't know how much you will like this but I love it. The C pillar and window setup looks like the Holdens. This car is nice, minus the ugly rims, oddly placed Buick portholes on a Chrysler, and what I think is a hood scoop. Anyways you have your opinion. But if I still had our old Concorde, I would be taking a Chopsaw to it as well. I love it. Here is the link for the pics. El Concorde
