Alright, so there's another teacher I work with that owns a 2003 or 2004 Chrylser Sebring convertible. This is her 2nd one and she's had her share of repair horrors (1st one had too many tranny problems). She wants a new convertible sometime this summer. Another colleague bought a 2006 Toyota Solara convertible last summer and loves it; no problems and claims because it's a Toyota. Now my 1st colleague has owned nothing buy domestic cars and is considering her first foreign car. She needs trunk room for her beach stuff and backseat room for her young niece and nephew. That rules out the Pontiac G6. I showed her the Saab 9-3 convertible, but the price is more than s…

Congress forces draconic new fuel economy standards on the OEMS and all v8 and v6 powered performance cars are forced from the market. A special permit is required to buy a v8 in a truck and all cars and trucks are forced to become hybrids. Now what do you do? Myself, I'll be buying all the old v8s I can get my hands on. I will never buy a new car again. And I'll buy a gun. Not joking. at all.

On a happier note from ocn's inquiry, last night I turned in my last final. I just finished an evening MBA with an emphasis in accounting(taxation). I slept at least 10 hours upon coming home. What a relief. No, I am NOT a professional student. I hate that. A professional student lingers in college, changes their major, has grades are like a yo-yo, and studies less than marketable subjects to prolong the experience. So, here's the list...to come full circle: BS in Business - day program, earned on time, with honors, went to work in field in 3 weeks Grad degree in Architecture - day program, earned ahead of time (3 years instead of 3.5), with high honors, went to w…

I don't know how many here have ever seen the movie "Tommy," but I'm sure many have heard The Who song Pinball Wizard. My dad has this movie on VHS and I remember watching it once when I was probably 5 years old. Today I looked up some of the clips on YouTube and it's still as weird as ever. My dad loves this movie though...him and his 70s rock operas. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BTj4dKCQc8...ted&search= Also, I don't know how many know of Manfred Mann's Earth Band, but I've always loved this song of theirs and I found a couple clips on YouTube. This song was featured in the movie "Blow" and it's another one in my dad's collection. http://www.youtube.co…

Today I was driving home from work getting off at Jordan Creek Parkway, which runs through the heart of upper-middle class suburbia in West Des Moines. I was in the lane to the left and zooming up beside me was a gouge-my-eyes-out bright orange Honda Civic, with white American Racing wheels, body kit, small wing, tint, altezza headlights, fart can...the whole works. His car sounded like a weedwacker on steroids. But the best part was that the guy had orange vinyl graphics covering the width of the window that boldly said "All Show, No Go." At least the guy was honest! ------------------ While I was looking for a good rice picture, I came across this....nice 1987 H…

Oh... Where to start? I suppose I'll be blunt. It broke down yet again. This time, with me. As you know, I haven't gotten the miss fixed with my Millenia, so when I want to go out of town, I'll take the Sunfire. That's what I did last night. I basically needed something to do since I wasn't able to take it down to Carlisle. I took it to Dubois to look at cars and hang out with a friend instead. Things were going good for most of the night. Found a few cars to drool over, found some to laugh at, and I found some that I don't see often. Went to Burger King where a friend of mine works and got free food and a free milkshake. Had fun... After that, I head home. I decide…

Hey guys, I know I should probably add this to my Long-term project thread, but this is rather profound to me. I believe I have found my project car. Now I must wait until I come up with the 1,000 required to procure such vehicle. Turns out there's a little abandoned house down the road from my grandparents and parents houses. Sitting in the backyard happens to be 1 1963, possibly 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix. The car is red in color with a white interior (don't ask my how I found this out considering the "no trespassing" signs up). There is rust along the rear window sill, but it doesn't appear to be rust-through. I heard through a friend of a friend, whom is also i…

My folks have been looking into getting a new car recently. Their criteria was midsized FWD/AWD v6 car. So now he teaches law and does internal stuff at Yale. With our house in westport finally sold and our expenses realigned after four years of learning to live more economically and on less in general, he and my mom felt it's time to replace their 2000 intrigue. Now I have to give props to the intrigue. best car we have ever owned h…

Shortly after Castro took over in 1959, the U.S. slapped a trade embargo on Cuba. That means the country has imported few cars in the past five decades. But ever-resourceful Cubans have managed to keep the same vehicles on the streets since the 1950s, making the country the world's biggest open-air car museum. I know a Pontiac when I see one!

Anyway, I have always wanted to sell new Chevrolets and I'm not sure if this is feasible. It is something I would like to do part time while still employeed to test the waters... Is there anyone here who has experience with this field? Is the pay good, is it stressful or is it rewarding. I would definately NOT be one of those slimeballs just looking to make a sale... I live in the DFW area, so opportunities are out there... Any opinions, suggestions, ups and downs would be appreciated... Thanks

Old article, but still interesting... Gridlocked GTA ECONOMY DINGED BY EVERY CRASH ON THE 401 - NORTH AMERICA'S BUSIEST FREEWAY By BRIAN GRAY, TORONTO SUN Ready ... set ... GO? Waiting the hardest part No Easy Way Out THE "PHENOMENAL" number of vehicles on Hwy. 401 as it cuts through Toronto makes it the busiest freeway in North America -- and each collision can cost Ontario's economy thousands of dollars. Traffic on the 401 has doubled in the past 25 years and now averages 410,000 cars an hour, said Phil Masters, the head of the province's advance traffic management centre, commonly known as the Compass system that monitors traffic throughout the GTA. May 10, 2007 - In an outbreak reminiscent of the early stages of SARS and bird flu, pigs are growing sick and dying across China’s southeastern Guangdong province. Roughly 3,000 pigs have been infected on hundreds of family farms and about 300 have died. Early reports from Chinese scientists attribute the outbreak to porcine respiratory and reproductive syndrome (PRRS), which first appeared 18 years ago and was originally called Mystery Swine Disease. But certain symptoms of the current outbreak, including massive hemorrhaging, are not consistent with PRRS, and might indicate that the disease—most likely caused by a virus—has mutated. The outbreak has renewed fears that a…

What did you do for your mamma on her special day? My mom wanted to go to Easton, MD (where I used to live) for lunch, including some locally famous cream of crab soup. Then we took the short trek to St. Michaels, MD, to another locally famous spot for some ice cream. She said she had a great day, which was good. I thought of something funny on the way home after dropping her off though... both places are gay-owned.

I was talking to my cousin over the weekend. She has a co-worker who returned an FJ Cruiser off lease and got into a new Edge. I was happy to hear that. This got me thinking... is there a source of information somewhere that lists percentages of models traded for others? For example, statistically, what are the top 3 vehicles traded in for an Impala, and so forth. I'm sure some surprises would be in store. Does anyone know where this information can be found?

Yech! For those on the semester system, final exams are right around the corner. Mine start on Wednesday night and I have two others, all at night time, within a week from that because I am in an evening program. I have been burning the candle at both ends, ending up at coffee shops with my books from 11 pm to 1:30 am or so since I find myself cat-napping at weird intervals. The upside: I will be DONE with finals, and with my degree program, in less than 10 days. I think I can manage. What about you? Big finals load? Are you coping / what do you do to cope?

Well, as I've said many times, after I test drove an Acadia back in January, I've been infatuated with the Lambdas ever since. As I always do, I attempted to peak some interest in the queen mum--her Suburban is right at 3 years, which is actually the LONGEST she's owned any of the past 4 vehicles--and she what she thought. Still SUV comfort and space, but much more refined, better gas mileage, and much lower pricing than another new GMT-900. Didn't immediately get such a strong response--well, aside from a while ago when she saw the Enclave concept on Motorweek and said "Wow, what's that?!"--until just recently. Out of the blue I was asked "Those Acadias, what kind o…

All right boys and girls. I've got a BIG question to ask. I'm looking for a long-term project car. My requirements are that be General Motors, 1955-1975. I'd prefer a muscle or pony car, but that is not a requirement. My biggest requirement is that it be a rolling chassis. It doesn't have to have an engine, it doesn't really have to have an interior. Keep in mind this will be a long-term (ie 5-ish years) project vehicle. I also know that I don't want to spend a lot of money on the initial purchase, I'm thinking about $2,000 for the initial rolling chassis. The rest I can come up with as time passes on. Any suggestions?

Contrary to the firm-held belief from the New=powned! The last time this survey was compiled was 1993. As competition and the cost of doing business continually creeps upwards with no end in sight, undoubtedly all avenues of 'bringing home the bacon' are being discussed, including that old bugaboo; planned obsolescence. Ok, so to make a long story short, I have a friend who works for his dad who runs a lumber mill. They need a forklift (for some reason beyond my comprehension) and my friend mentioned something to me about it. We then got into a very long, intense conversation about playing chicken on heavy machinery. Anyways, I came across this warning sticker on Crown's website. Avoid being crushed, good advice even when you're not talking about a forklift.

THe reason being we plan on moving to Fl at some point and are debating whether it would be more cost effective to wait to buy and Acadia in FL, vs. NY.

Hi all I have a friend whose looking for a new used car, she has her sights set on a 2003 Ford Taurus LX with 65,000 on it and it's in great condition, they are asking $7,995.00 for it. Now I have already blue booked it and the dealer is coming in slightly lower than its blue book value that's not my question. My question is. I don't know what the reliability record is for the Taurus. Could someone please help me out on this? It would be much appreciated. Thanks Robert

Don't hurt me for this one but we really are. I'm part of a drug prevention group in school and the teacher who is over the whole thing is also my 4th period teacher. As the only active group in our school that does anything after school wise, our teacher has made it a tradition to always be the head of the senoir party and basicaly direct everything that happens. And what happens? My lack of a life popped in and now im having to help her with the Senior party to direct it. We need ideas. ones that dont suck. Please help

Does anybody know if Toyota in particulr is coming to the table with a cheaper RWD platform similar to Zeta or LX. I wonder the implications of a RWD V-8 Avalon to Detriot. Even more daring what about an answer to the Camaro and Mustang. It may be corny but, imagine a RWD Midsize Celica with a 3.5L 268hp V-6 and a 5.7L V-8 with 381hp from the new Tundra. Wow, this world is getting scary for a GM fan. Let's hope it take Toyota 20 years to catch this All-American Trend. Then, again they aren't exactly slow.

Fullsize P/U Comparison: Toyota vs. Chevy vs. Nissan The 2007 Nissan Titan takes 3rd place in this group, though three years ago it placed 1st in its class with ease. With the introduction of the all-new Silverado and Tundra, the game has simply moved on, and the Titan's traditional character is cast in a harsher light. It has neither the capability of the Tundra nor the comfort of the Silverado, and the road manners of neither. It's not that the Titan is bad — it's that the other two are so good. The fact that the Titan's range of configurations isn't up to par with the others did not play into our scoring, but is a reality it must contend with in the marketplace. I…

Damn...I love tornadoes and spring storms but sometimes it's just too much. I can't imagine what the people of Greensburg, KS, must be going through right now....90% of the buildings in this town of 1500 people are gone. Historic Main Street is gone, the water tower is gone, the high school is gone...somehow the elevators and the courthouse pulled through. Watching a mile and a half wide tornado coming straight for your hometown...that must truly be terrifying. Eight confirmed dead so far. http://www.kansas.com/static/slides/050507tornadoaerials/

Well I thought I woud start this thread to find out more about other areas people live in. I myself live in an area called Hockessin Delaware. When I moved here 15 years ago there were about 5,000 people living here, now we have about 12,000 people living here. I am attaching this link so you can find out more about where I live. I like to visit other places so tell me about where you live, are you in a town or city? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hockessin,_Delaware As you can see it's not a major city, in fact it's not even a town, it's just suburbia. Far enough away from the major cities, but close enough to Philadelphia, Baltimore, Atlantic City, Washington, DC, and …

It's a pretty odd thing to say at 22 (almost 23), but I've been feeling more and more that way lately. I just found out tonight that one of my good friends from high school is engaged, another friend is getting married in June, two others are engaged, one is now married and having a baby in September, and most of them are starting to graduate from college and get jobs in the real world. I still have a year left due to my five-year program, single currently, and don't have a permanent job yet (although I'm working again this summer at the same arch firm I was at last summer). It's amazing how much has changed from a year ago...and I'll soon be out of college and living …

Okay... ... for YEARS I've been dealing with bad sinus conditions, FREQUENT sinus infections (to the point of having high fevers, shaking, etc.), constant sinus headaches from not draining, etc. I NEVER blow my nose. No matter how full my head is, nothing ever drains. I've gone to 2 ENTs, and they've both said basically, "you're kinda screwed." So, for the past 2 months, literally, I have not been able to breathe through my nose because of allergies... my sinuses have been full, my head in pain, and nothing is budging. It's hard on my students because when my nose is this full, they can't hear my pronunciation correctly, and it impacts their learning to a degree. …

Today at the dentist, my dentist and the assistant started talking about cars after there had been an article in the local paper about gas possibly approaching $4/gallon. They started talking about how they were phasing out the incentives for hybrid cars and how the auto companies could be making more fuel efficient cars if they wanted to, they just weren't because they were in bed with the oil companies. I had all kinds of metal $h! in my mouth and it was numb so I couldn't refute. But there have also been other times where people have said stupid and uninformed things about the auto industry. For example: "I hear those electric Japanese cars get …

I guess I'm conservative with cars...DUH. Well, I think about the rental cars out there. Once put into service, they don't know who will be driving it and how and I think they change the oil the very first time at around 7,000 miles, per the owner's manual. When I got my new car, I drove it real "easy" the first 1,000 miles or so, mixing both city and highway driving. Then, I took it in for a "break in" oil and filter change at about 1,500 miles and then returned to a regimen of changes every 2,500 miles or so. The car has been awesome. I really believe that any "impurities" in the oil or the engine will be flushed out with an early oil change and that things will…

Here we go again. It is 2007, and it is Toyota will be #1 manufacturer this year. The article is sickening, and while it bashes GM for building Big SUV's, it is praising Toy for building Macho, Turd. Morons. No mention about Toy's recalls either. These terrorist journalists should be whacked. #1 Toy-Boy-Ta Vote here, GM is lagging behind badly. See how bad people's perceptions are about quality. I mentioned in the "I can only imagine" thread that I'd love to get a home on the outskirts of town or in the country or in a small town. I've lived "city life" (well, between Chicago-type city life and small town life, anyway) all of my life, except for when I was in college ... and the short time I lived in Nashville TN in 1996. I know some think it nuts to live in a small town, but the following, which was given to me by a family friend years ago, gives some of the reasons why I'd like to live in a small town. Course, room for a big garage ... and the idea of not having many "city ordinances" to contend with ... are big factors as well ... he he.... Life in a small…

This is: a. The Rolling Stones b. Metallica c. Nirvana d. AC/DC That's probably the first time I've laughed out loud in an exam.

Last gen. Cadillac Deville Flower Car. It flew past me on Memorial Drive, too fast to even make a grab for the camera. It was black, natrually & has a rolled back toneau cover on the back that looked like a convertible top on a 1980s VW Cabriolet. Very nice clean conversion. Much less exciting, a brand new Rolls Royce on Rt. 495

This "iffyness" on Zeta is making me want to give up on new cars. My whole life I have watched cars I like get cancelled and replaced by soulless FWD blobs. Then, GM comes-up with Zeta and all is well. Then, Zeta is put on hold. Then on hold again. I'm tired of freakin' waiting! At least old cars can bring a smile to my face. Maybe I'll just disappear into the barn and concentrate on my projects. Call me when the real cars are ready.

damn. DAMN! saturday, i had the opportunity to put about 20 miles on a new 06 exige with the track-pack. i cant describe how incredible this car is and ive been trying for two days. the gearbox wasnt perfect for me and the toyota engine is too weak under 6k rpms, but my biggest complaint was that the car was yellow. communication through the steering wheel, which seemed no bigger than a dinner plate, was unreal and unlike anything i've ever driven short of a go-kart, but without the trauma. i think, think, i could feel the front tires shift on their wheels in the few banked sweepers i had the chance to drive through at speed. i have a sneaking suspicion that i was no w…

SO heres the story, about a month ago the alternator in my Riviera bit the dust and I had my car brought to a local repair shop which was said to be a good place according to my girlfriend's neighbors....so I figured hell while they have the car, might as well do an inspection, oil change and tranny flush. $655 later, I had my car back, with a new alternator, new belts, tranny service, oil change and inspection sticker.... about 5 minutes after pulling away I notice my car dosen't seem to be right, so I thought well maybe the tranny service really changed the driving dynamics of this car anyway by that night I noticed my lights, both inside the car and my headlights we…
