A friend came over yesterday and threw me the keys to his new 2007 Camry XE Sport...Leather, Satelite radio, sunroof, alloys. What the hell, I hate them, but let me see what all the fuss is about! So I took it for a short drive. Here are my findings: 1: Quiet ride, firm suspension and controls. Leather on the steering wheel felt cheap and actually was scratchy on my hands. Hate the silver dash treatment - until you turn on the headlights...then the blue/green ambient lighting on the stereo and other control surfaces is really kinda cool. 2: What is all of the talk about Toyota switch feel all about? Am I missing something? The turnsignal stalk operated with a "…

Here across the pond, pizza tends to be served on an individual basis, is less expensive than in the states and is delicious. I had thin crust pizza the last 2 nights -- topped with olives, artichokes, prosciutto and mushrooms. Fantastic. I really don't like thick crust pizza because I like tasting the ingredients. Which type of crust do you like?

Yesterday on my way back from a delivery traffic was slowing down, and moving into the other lane...it was to avoid a guy on a bicycle...but not just any bicycle. This guy was riding 8 feet or so in the air. I got a look at it as I was driving by. Apparently he welded 2 bike frames together, one on top of the other, and then mounted the seat on a 2-3 foot pipe. How he maintained his balance is beyond me. Today as I was delivering to a store in a strip mall, i noticed a gold mid 90's Cavalier parked awkwardly in the Bank of America parking lot. It had a flat and there was no one in it. I thought it was odd how it was parked, but figured the owner had gone to get a help f…

So here's the deal. In November 2006 my partner started having an affair with a 68 year old rich guy. Those of you who know me well enough know that I'm not exactly hurting for money. After a few months of painfully trying to reconcile Chas and I finally split in the middle of February 2007. This, in effect, devastated me. I can't even look at an ad for a retirement home without wanting to vomit. Not only did I lose Chas, but I lost the family that came with him. I was very close to his parents.... his dad especially. I have no family here in Pittsburgh. I also lost a number of friends in the "divorce" leaving me feeling even more isolated. In the meantime, Ch…

The road trip to Tulsa set me back in terms of the amount of money I had, a which in tern made my loan payment for last month lat (school loans). This day started off quite good, with Sixty8 finally being able o drop off the LeSabre for safe keeping, and us being able to kill the hornet's nest in the Caravan's hatch (starter fluid, as I have learned, is awesome at killing the bastards). We were even able to move it up the driveway so another car could finally fit behind it. He also got a tour of the many, many Mopar parts that have collected in the garage, as well as being able to see the `Cuda's in the flesh. All was going well... I had to get money from working before…

One of the highlights of this show is the free tour of the Allentown MACK Truck plant. I last attended this show in 2005 and took the free bus ride over to the plant. It was cool to see how MACK trucks are made, although the plant doesn't operate on the weekends. Of course there's a huge flea market full of truck stuff, and don't forget all the rows and rows and rows of nothing but trucks! I'll be taking my camera and will post pictures …

Water Seeps Into Vault Holding Buried Car KOTV - 6/13/2007 11:13 AM - Updated 6/13/2007 3:46 PM TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Workers unearthing the 1957 Plymouth Belvedere buried under the city's courthouse lawn were dealt an early setback Wednesday, as several feet of water were found in the concrete vault supposedly strong enough to withstand a nuclear attack. The two-door hardtop, buried in 1957 to celebrate Oklahoma's 50 years of statehood, is set to be lifted out of the 12-foot-by-20-foot time capsule Friday morning to commemorate the state's centennial year. As many as 50,000 people from all over the world are expected at the event, and more than 260 media credentials h…

Well I've come to the conclusion that I may need to sell my Riviera. The car is having one problem after naother due to the fact I cannot afford to fix it right now. last night my service engine light came on, and when I hooked up my scanner it pulled 6 codes. the main one is a missfire on cylinder 6. I recently had a miss and had a coil pack and spark plug replaced about a month and a half ago. Now another coil pack seems to have gone. I also need brakes relaly bad and tires. The reason I cannot have the work done is because I've been out of work for 3 months now, and can't contiue to dump my limited funds into it any longer. It is a 1995 Riviera with 91,xxx mile…

Cars Crushed in Street Racing Crackdown By GREG RISLING, Associated Press Writer Link to Original Artcle @ FoxNews RIALTO, Calif. — Charles Hoang winced when the whoosh went out of the tires. Daniel Maldonado took pictures with a digital camera as glass exploded and rained down to the ground. The cars the teens had so meticulously souped up and tricked out were crushed Wednesday as part of a crackdown on illegal street racing in Southern California. "That's my heart, my dream," said Hoang, 18, of Chino, who was surrounded by friends as his 1998 Acura Integra was put into a compactor. "That's my girlfriend, the love of my life. The cops can crush my car, but they can…

My Milly's ambient temperature display maxed out today. Okay.... so it only goes up to 99 degrees in Fahrenheit. But yeah... It's been so hot, especially today. It still hot out and its 1:30 in the morning. I'm roasting in my 80 degree room. My fan is useless as it just brings in more hot air. I need air conditioning. My older 4 MCs made their long-awaited 2007 debut today, June 16. This is the LATEST in the year I've "waited" to get them started. Too bad I'll be waiting a bit longer to drive them. On the positive side, all 4 of them started virtually perfectly. After checking the oil, the battery, tire pressures, etc., they all started just fine. The '76, however, needed a bit of a boost for the battery; actually, I think it will need a new battery sooner rather than later. And, with the '72, I tried to start the car ... before I had hooked up the battery. For a while, we couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start. Then, the guy who owns the garage happened to look at the batte…

Have you ever met someone you had an affair with years later? This happened to me today. I was not married at the time, in fact I was 19 years old, she was 32 and the wife of one of my father's friends. It went on until I was 21, then GM transfered me to Mexico for a few years, so it ended. She and her husband came to the same Italian festival I went to today, in Wilmington. It was odd because I heard her call my name and I knew exactly who it was without looking. I found out they had moved from Texas to Cape May, NJ since her husband retired this year. Anyway it brought back many memories, most are good. Most of the memories are vivid and it feels as if it were only …

This is Dodgefan btw So we're still here, the car is finally about ready to go. Basically it's been an ongoing saga with the B-59 and it's water pump. JB Weld didn't work, Teflon Tape didn't work, so in the end we ended up drilling and threading holes for the impeller and the shaft, then after Paul, Jessica and I went to Sears for screws, we threaded them into the shaft to keep the impeller on, and cut the bolt heads off so they wouldn't hit anything. After that the 3 of us (while Sixty8 worked on the car), went on another trip to AutoZone and then Advanced Auto Parts for a belt that would fit the water pump/generator. Sixty8 managed to fit one on by the time we go…

Industry won’t expand refineries since demand for gas will remain the same! WASHINGTON - A push from Congress and the White House for huge increases in biofuels, such as ethanol, is prompting the oil industry to scale back its plans for refinery expansions. That could keep gasoline prices high, possibly for years to come. With President Bush calling for a 20 percent drop in gasoline use and the Senate now debating legislation for huge increases in ethanol production, oil companies see growing uncertainty about future gasoline demand and little need to expand refineries or build new ones. Oil industry executives no longer believe there will be the demand for gasoline ov…

I'm thinking about putting vanity plates on my Camaros ('68 SS & '73 Z28/RS) but I can't think of anything really cool. Anybody have any ideas? EDIT: Basic specs: The '68 is a 350 4-speed car that is/will be more of a "classic" cruiser. The '73 houses a 406 with a Turbo350 transmission and is/will be more of a "custom" car. Neither will be too wild though, the plates will be NC plates which means 8 letters or less. A few pics:

Earnhardt to join Hendrick Motorsports for '08 season By Joe Menzer, NASCAR.COM June 13, 2007 02:45 PM EDT MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Sixteen years after they jokingly put pen to napkin, roughly four years after his own son predicted it would happen one day and Rick Hendrick scoffed at the idea, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has joined the team at Hendrick Motorsports. Hendrick and Earnhardt made it official with an 11 a.m. ET announcement Wednesday at JR Motorsports, the facility owned by Earnhardt out of which he operates a Busch Series team and other budding racing ventures (watch video). The outfit Earnhardt is joining at Hendrick is no budding racing venture, but rather the or…

The Beginning It was Fall of the year 2004, as I looked for my first car. I really wanted a Fiero. I looked for one left and right. I knew it was a longshot, but I would constantly dream of it and had hopes it would become a reality. Soon enough, the idea was shot down by my parents, only after agreeing to it earlier. I wasn't happy, needless to say, but my search continued into the Winter. My dad would always buy the weekly Trade book, looking for deals. Soon enough, we came across an ad for a 1995 Grand Am GT with a manual transmission for $1000. My thoughts were "Atleast it's a manual". I wasn't overly enthusiastic, but I thought it would be a decent car. We called t…

So, we did want gays in the military...just not ours. -------- Pentagon Confirms It Sought To Build A 'Gay Bomb' Jun 8, 2007 9:03 pm US/Pacific (CBS 5) BERKELEY A Berkeley watchdog organization that tracks military spending said it uncovered a strange U.S. military proposal to create a hormone bomb that could purportedly turn enemy soldiers into homosexuals and make them more interested in sex than fighting. Pentagon officials on Friday confirmed to CBS 5 that military leaders had considered, and then subsquently rejected, building the so-called "Gay Bomb." I have a bicycling issue, I was hoping someone on here could help out, I know some of you have mentioned biking as a hobby in the past. Basically, I've spent the last 2 years doing short, intense rides, a couple of hours at a time over hellacious terrain, and my body is used to it. My issue is, I'm going to do a charity ride (Start to Finish MS, anyone want to donate?) in September , it'll be 80-100 miles each way (dont know the route yet) and I'm worried about trying to turn myself into an endurance cyclist. Today, I went on a 40 mile ride, that frankly didn't go well. My ass was in the most extreme pain I've felt in years and my back didn't feel that greta either. …

Last night I went to the Kernels ball game in Cedar Rapids that was sponsored by my company (plus all the free food and beer you can consume). Well, I ended up locking my keys in the car and didn't realize it until the game was over at 10:30 at night. I went to customer services and they gave me the number of a locksmith and also a number for the Cedar Rapids Police. I tried the police first because one of the guys said they have tools on hand to unlock cars, but the dispatcher said they had nothing like that (flat out lie....probably were too lazy to come out there). So I gave in and called the locksmith since I had no other choice. The guy and his wife were both e…

I would like to learn about as many GM "high performance" and "oddball" special cars as possible. For instance, the 66 W-30 tripower Cutlass, a very rare bird. GM even built one that was turquoise with a yellow vynal top and a red interior so that it would show up well on the dragstrip. Olds Achieva SCX, rare, rare bird, like the Neon ACR but much, much rarer. Or the "Heavy Chevy" 71 Chevelle. Or any of the other quad 4 specials. Or the "Anniversary Olds" that was build for olds 50th anniversay in very limited numbers in the 1950's. Or the first OHV pontiac V8's. Or... But I am having trouble finding info. Well, I'm proud of myself. I happened by a used car dealership and wound up taking a very serious look at the car I covet, a Mini Cooper. This particular Cooper was an S with the stick, sunroof and the bonnet stripes that I absolutely hate. The very first thing I checked out was the back seat, and there is indeed enough room for a forward facing child seat, which is a good thing. Next was the driver's seat, specifically the driving position, which at first was terrible, I couldn't see anything but the visor when looking straigh ahead, but after adjusting the seat hight I got a good line of sight. Then came the drive, totally amazing, I had forgotten what its like to …

I, the Penis, hereby request a raise in salary for the following reasons: I do physical labor. I work at great depths. I plunge head first into everything I do. I do not get weekends or holidays off. I work in a damp environment. I work in a dark workplace that has poor ventilation. I work in high temperatures. I am willing to work any shift. My work exposes me to contagious diseases. The response: Dear Penis: After assessing your request, and considering the arguments you have raised, the administration rejects your request for the following reasons: You do not work 8 hours straight. You fall asleep after brief work periods. You do not always follow the o…

Peter Egan wrote an article in Road & Track a few years back about this topic. What is YOUR current cylinder count? A few weeks ago my cylinder count was: 1984 Dastun Maxima "Zwei" (w/sunroof): 6 1984 Dastun Maxima parts car: 6 1959 Buick LeSabre: 8 1964 Oldsmobile Super 88: 8 1977 Cadillac Coupe deVille: 8 1996 Volvo 850: 5 1997 Cadillac STS parts car: 8 TOTAL: 49 The Volvo, Super 88, Maxima "Zwei" & Coupe deVille are now gone, BUT I have acquired two more cars... The Roadmaster Estate & a very solid 1976 LeSabre 4-door Hardtop with 455 power. So now my fleet is as follows: 1984 Dastun Maxima parts car: 6 1959 Buick LeSabre: 8 1976 B…

After a year with my Colorado I am ready to get something with more comfort and power. I have been looking at getting a LT Crew cab 4x4, I am not sure if the 6.0 is worth the extra money. I know people who say the 5.3 has more than enough but a few ppl who have the 6.0 and say they would never have the 5.3. I guess the question is: What will I miss more, the extra couple grand or the extra 52 HP?

Okay.... so as of today, Thursday, May 10th 2007 there is less than five weeks left before I hit the road with several friends to drive about 3700 miles in less than a week. I promissed DodgeFan I'd hammer out the timeline on here since he's going along. So here goes. I'm hoping to get about 13mpg on this trip since it will be 95% highway miles and I'm either taking the 1959 Buick which has a 6.0 liter V8, or perhaps (blasphemy!) I might take the 1977 Cadillac instead. The Cadillac has a very economical rear end in it... 2.08:1, but it breathes through a big 4bbl and displaces 425 cubic inches/7.0 liters. So for the sake of argument, since Big Red got abou…

Well, I got a major surprise today. My brakes went out on me-during the lunch rush..... Lucky for me I made a turn down a side street to avoid a traffic back up. Everything had been fine all day-but when the wagon hit the first stop sign- I didn't stop-and just missed avoiding a person backing out of their driveway- I just about had a heart attack. After getting it to stop (it had a little stopping power left after that), I limped it to my folks house. (where I was on my way to) I came out and checked it a few minutes later-and there was a small puddle and fluid all over my passenger tire I had it towed away to the local shop...and my guess I either lost the h…

http://www.cnn.com/2007/AUTOS/06/06/why_hy...suvs/index.html gas used = miles/mpg inverse proportional relationship is getting attention! Over 15,000 miles, 16.5 mpg = 909 gallons used. 20 mpg = 750 gallons used. 3.5 mpg difference = 159 gallons saved. To save as much on a car, 26 mpg = 577 gallons used. 36 mpg = 418 gallons used 10 mpg difference = 159 gallons saved. The relationship is inversely proportional, a hyperbola. gallons used = miles/miles per gallon y = k/x mpg improvements on low mpg vehicles are much more significant than mpg improvements on high mpg vehicles. aka "diminishing returns" if you're mathphobic.

MUSCAT, Oman - Oman evacuated tens of thousands of people today, suspended oil exports, and closed the major port of Sohar as a weakening Cyclone Gonu roared toward the Strait of Hormuz, the world's major transport artery for Persian Gulf oil. Oil prices rose amid forecasts that the storm, a rarity in the region, was barreling toward Iran. Link: http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dl...6/NEWS/70606019

(I'm bored) What type of computer mouse do you currently use and do you want to upgrade it...if so to what? I currently have a Logitech Cordless Click! Plus mouse. It's a pretty nice mouse but I've noticed lately that it has to be closer to the wireless receiver in order to work well...probably age. I'm dying to get an MX Revolution though, it's a sexy mouse with awesome feel and precision...plus it'll match the rest of my Desktop...black and silver :3 On a side note, I dislike all of Microsuck's mice products...they feel cheaper than Logitech, both in terms of materials and most noticeably the wheel. It has no precision and feels rubbery and cheap. As for keyboard,…

I just got finished reading a book on people who are left handed. It showed how vastly different Left handed people think from Right handed people. It wasn't saying how Lefties thought was bad, just that their thought process is completely different from the Righties. So what hand or hands do you use.

So there's this girl I really like, so I told my other friend and she asked her who she liked online. It was some other guy, so she told her that I liked her. She was really surprised and said that she had never thought of me that way. We are really good friends and talk all the time in school (sophomore in high school). When we talk it feels so right and it is so easy to talk to her. My other friend thought she may have liked me because she says she talks about me a lot. She said the only two guys she talks about are me and the guy she likes. I feel like crap and completely dejected. I don't know whether I should give up or if I should wait and see if she changes …

Same as below, but now my student is looking at used '92-'97 2-door Yukons (and probably Blazers/Tahoes). We found a '95 Yukon SLE 4wd online that he's intetrested in - white w/ blue cloth interior, 107k, used car dealer is asking just shy of $7k. These were my favorites, so I'm gonna be sad if and when he gets it (why? Because I'm not the one buying it! ). Any suggestions on what he should look for when he goes to inspect it? I know '96 & '97s used the Vortec V8 engines... any real advantage over the earlier '92-'95 non-Vortec engines? Also the '92-'95s used the floor shifter to engage the 4wd system, whereas the '96 & '97s could have the optional push-but…

June 10, 2007 Tokyo, Japan Toyota Motor, under intense pressure, today announced a recall of the special edition of their Yaris subcompact car. Known as the Yaris Hilton, the unique, black and white striped runabout features a "distressed" pink leather interior. Owners are urged to return the vehicles to a service facility immediately for the following conditions: the horn engages on its own and will not stop blowing, even if the battery is disconnected. Owners report the horn blows constantly until, as it begins to burn out, it becomes so shrill only spayed and neutered neighborhood dogs can hear it. Also, the headlight washers, through a short in the body control…

The Hummer H3T concept truck and the Pontiac G8 sedan are highlighted on their flyer and newspaper ads. maybe I'll take the SKY there and show it off!

It's already early June; yet, my older 4 MCs have not made their 2007 debut ... and I have not cleaned up the '87 MC LS by hand. Last year, the older 4 MCs didn't make their debut until mid-May ... which led to not attending any area cruise nights...hmm.... I'm not stalling because of rising gas prices. I believe the "delay" is partly (if not mostly) because of my daily drive to/from work. Since October, I've been driving 30-45 minutes each way to/from work in Schaumburg IL; this finds me "fighting" traffic ... something I absolutely strongly dislike doing ... even hate going for my checkups at Chicago's Northwestern Memorial Hospital, which I did last Thursday, May 3…

Well we are changing our vacation plans, we were going to go to Texas and Utah in July. We were going to spend 2 weeks in Plano, Texas where my parents live, however a friend of mine at Holden (yes I have one), has invited us to attend the Indy 300 at Gold Coast, Australia in October. The race will be held from October 18 -21, 2007. So my parents will be meeting us for 2 weeks in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands for 2 weeks in July and joining us in Australia in October. It looks like Texas & Utah will have to wait until next year. Here is a link to the race: http://www.indy.com.au/

I figured this show might be good watching considering the whole eco-conscious movement these days. Penn Jillette and his partner, Teller spend about half an hour debunking Hybrid cars and investigating Nuclear Power. It also has Lesbians, but unfortunately for Reg, there's no nudity. Language is kind of coarse, but it's good watchin' if you have a half-hour to burn. So I was driving home on a two-lane road, and see a possum crossing the street. I slow down to make sure he gets across my side, and he successfully did. However, there was a car coming in the oncoming lane that he wasn't so fortunate to avoid, and I had the unpleasant experience of hearing its death. I was probably 15 feet from where he was hit as I was driving by. I hear a thud-caa-runch and then a second later a nasty splatter. Not something I ever want to hear again. Gross.

Well, My main 26" tv in the bedroom is about 14-15 years old and runs great, but we have no TV in the living room and the wife wants one, to get the kid out of the kitchen where our cheap 20" tv is. We have NO full height wall space in the living room, but we do have a pseudo mantel above the gas fireplace in the center of the wall. There is a wall with the window sill at 60" and room for a TV or cabinet below, buit its in the corner kind of. I originally though 1000 bucks would do it, now I'm not sure. Might take 2 grand. I'd like to try to get at least 37-40" atop the fireplace. Might have to settle for 32". Could go 50" proj TV if i go below the side windows. …

So I've turned in a few applications and resumes at plenty of local businesses the last few days of May and I'm expecting at least one interview. Of course, with a job comes money, and I plan on shoveling that money into another car. Sure, I've got the S-10 ... but I have this urge to buy a nice car (since I do already have a truck, all trucks, with the rare exception of a cheap Syclone, are out ... SUVs still make the cut, however) that I can drive out of town without feeling embarrassed about the S-10s worn out paint, miles of dings and dents, practically non-existing exhaust system ... among other things I still haven't sorted out for some reason. I plan on it ... but …

Just picked up a '84 Indy Fiero tonight... guy said it ran and shifted perfect and was reliable. Halfway home I go to stop and take off and can't get it into any gears unless I shut off the car. Let's just say it was a tough slow drive the rest of the way back. Of course the guy won't answer his phone now. Test drive apparently wasn't long enough to find the problem. Anyway, I'm assuming that would be the slave clyinder?? I just bought the car to put miles on and save the miles on my Avalanche, well, this left a bad taste in my mouth and Fiero is going right up on ebay, whatever it sells for is what it sells for, no reserve. I was very happy to read about this. Evidently, Deutsche Lufthansa (der flying gestapo :AH-HA_wink: don't get me started) has signed orders for about a dozen new Boeing 747-800s. Others are placing orders mostly for the freighter version, but British and other Asian carriers may place some orders, as there is a historical trend to buy Boeing. That would be cool. And why not? The technology is known, the infrastructure is there and it's a beauty. The area where Boeing knows they have had to make strides is in economy, material weight and quietness of operation ("Quiet Tuning," anybody?). The ugly Airbus 380 is noticeably quieter than any '47s to date, judging from…

...to replace your current older, high mileage car with a newer, low mileage example of the exact same model? Do people do it? Does it speak of my reluctance to change? Because I'm seriously considering trading in the white '99 Passat for a dark blue 2005 Passat. Or I could get a less lavishly appointed 2002 Audi A4 with higher miles, and an uglier color (silver...bleh), but get more "status" for my money. Thoughts? Comments? Opinions?
