August and Frederik Duesenberg, 1920s (article by the Des Moines Register) Two of the world's finest car builders got their start in Iowa. Cars adorned with the Duesenberg name were known for speed, style and luxury. Frederick Duesenberg was born in Germany in 1876, and August Duesenberg was born there in 1878. They arrived in the United States in 1885. Their widowed mother emigrated with them and four of their siblings. An older brother had already arrived and welcomed his family to a farm at Rockford. By the late 1890s, the brothers were skilled mechanics, operating bicycle-and-motorcycle shops, Fred in Rockford and "Augie" in Garner. They moved to Des Moines about…

So earlier tonight my girlfriend pointed out that the cat was staring at the overhead light. There was this strange looking fly thing on it...it was long and skinny and had wings. Didn't look like anything I'd seen (or killed) before. So, I did what any logical person (who enjoys fire) would do: I used my little Bernz-O-Matic lighter (which works like a torch) and put the flame to it. It fell off and landed on my tool box on the floor. Not satisfied, I torched it a couple more times to ensure it was proper dead. It was cool because every time I did it the thing would singe and light up. But I ended up stopping because it smelt really bad! Then I vacuumed it up. I'm not …

the new Dodge Challenger and how bad I want one....I haven't felt this way about a car in a long time....except for maybe when the Chrysler 300C came out...I love GM, but Chrysler has been releasing the type of cars I love...whether their execution is great or not is up for debate....but large RWD is my passion and GM sort of lacks that at least in a package I find appealing. I almost feel like I'm cheating on GM if I buy a Challenger, but I've been outside GM before, so I guess it wouldn't be the first time. But yet I wish it was a 2009 Oldsmobile 442 coming out. So am I nuts, or is it lust, or true love that I'm having for this Challenger?

OUTSOURCING ANNOUNCEMENT Washington D.C. - Congress today announced that the Office of President of the United States will be outsourced overseas as of August 31. The move is being made to save $400K a year in salary, a record $521 Billion in deficit expenditures and related overhead. "The cost savings will be quite significant" says Congressman Adam Smith (R-Wash) who, with the aid of Congress research arm, the General Accounting Office has studied outsourcing of American jobs extensively. "We simply can no longer afford this level of outlay and remain competitive on the world stage," Congressman Smith said. Exporting American jobs has been a popular trend lately,…

The lot was brimming with Ford trucks, and I didn't have my Sierra to do a smackdown... I had to drive my mom's Cobalt! I was so mad! :AH-HA_wink:

As I sit here at the dealership in the main showroom full of Chevrolet & Cadillacs I think to myself, whatever the heck happened to the DEATH of the V8? We've got about 28 cars here and more than HALF of them are powered by a V8s. Silverado, Trailblazer, two STS V8s, one STS-V, SRX-V8, XLR, XLR-V, 3 Escalades, 2 DTS, Impala SS, Trailblazer SS, Avalanche, 'Burban, Monte Carlo SS, not to mention upstairs on the second floor showroom we have seven Corvettes, 2 of them Z06s powered by the 7.0 liter LS7! And before you ask how many V8s are actually on the lot I'll jump the gun and tell you the "over half are V8s" rule applies. We've got rows & rows of…

TACOMA, Wash. - A Thai immigrant convicted of incest led investigators to the body of a 12-year-old girl who had been missing since the Fourth of July, and is expected to be charged in her death, authorities said Friday. Police are also trying to determine whether Terapon Adhahn, 42, is connected to other missing child cases that date back to 1986. Zina Linnik, abducted during a neighborhood fireworks display, died from "homicidal violence," said Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum and the Pierce County medical examiner's office. Her body was found in a rural wooded area after information from Adhahn's lawyer led police and FBI agents there, authorities said. Adh…

If I were to get rid of the Riviera and no one wanted to buy it, would it be possible to put the interior into my Delta 88? The reason I'm think about this is because my favorite part of this generation Riviera is the dashboard and interior as a whole. It's retro enough to where it could work with an older car and yet modern enough to have the features I'm now used to. The comfy leather seats, the center console and arm rest. The dash and doors panels becoming "one" Besides the obvious needed measurements, what other challenges would lie ahead in trying to do this?

With my habit of doing project cars, I am feeling the need to do my own body and paint work. The stumbling block for my projects always seems to be dealing with the bodyshop - either they don't get to it, don't get it, or cost way too much. I'm thinking that the answer may be to do it myself, so I'm looking for any and all input on the subject. I have a huge commercial compressor, but I need to convert it from 3-phase electric to 220 in order to run it here. There may be another alternative compressor in the mix as well (brand new and never used). Years ago, my Dad bought a Binks #7 paint gun but I'm not sure where that is now. I want the paint on my cars to be …

Yeah, my comp crashed last night...Finally got it fixed...but not just fixed, oh no no no no no. Basically it "crashed" because I messed with the setup....see ever since I had to format my HD from an evil SOB virus, the computer has been performing sub-par compared to what it used to. Flash vids and games had to be on lowest quality and they still lagged, and my games would like a lot when I had the settings way up. I knew this couldn't be right. For a couple months now I've ignored it...but the fact that I have a $500 gfx card in here and it performs about what my old machine was doing is just unacceptable. So I decided, on the suggestion of a friend, to check the memo…

I saw it!! I saw it!! Just got back from seeing the Transformers movie.....OMFG, it was awesome. To hear that voice, to see those characters again, well, it turned me into a 10 year old again. I couldn't help it, I got goosebumps all over when Optimus Prime first spoke.....needless to say that the movie action was wonderful. Sure, it was "normal" Michael Bay action, lots of shakey hand-cam work, lots of explosions and action. Good thing is you can take the family to see the movie if you want to, there's maybe only a couple of times any form of foul language is used, and typically it won't be much more than a damn or a $h!....nothing horrible. If yo…

And the only prescription is a '68-72 Corvette. Someone talk me out of it! I want to buy one, maybe next spring. I want to just keep an eye out for one that's really, really cheap (aka a car that's been sitting around and needs a lot of TLC) and then restore it to look exactly how I want it to sound, look, and feel. I've been fantasizing over Corvettes for the last year or so very badly. At this point, I'd even give up my Cobalt for extra money to restore a '68-72 Stingray and buy a cheap Grand Prix for a winter car or something. On a side note, two of my very good friends totalled their Camaros in the past 3 months. One was a 2000 Z28 built by GMPP and the other was the…

Sunday night I was delivering to one projects in the one of the $h!tier areas of Lawrence. No tip, of course...cheap assholes. Anyway As I'll driving down the road to get on the rotary to head back, these 2 idiots in Civics are parked side-by-side blocking most of the road. One of them is 90's sedan with clear tail lights, the other is an 80's $h!box with mismatched panels and the "Civic" wording on the back of the hatch way off center. This one was a 03 with 112k for 7988. (it was an LS, in case I didn't mention it...) With both my cars almost paid off, and I may wait a while (little) before another new car. I now officially hate commercial trucks. A few days ago we brought the sebring to Town and Country for a scratch repair on the rear bumper and the hood and for an estimate of the damage my mom caused to it a few weeks ago, and they gave us an 07 PT base for a loaner car. So we have been using, its quite fun to drive! Anyway, today I was driving down a main road and I saw this truck backing up into the opposite lane about 10 seconds up the road. So I noticed that everyone behind it stopped and was waiting because it had blocked all traffic comeing towards me. It was stopped so I thought that it wouldn't back up into on coming traffic...but ofcourse it decides to back up mo…

Went to see Transformers last night with Julie & a few friends. I was very happy with the movie. Let's just say that it's quite possibly THE best movie of all time. It makes Casablanca seem like a B- rated porno. By contrast Gone With The Wind would be a made for TV Lifetime movie & Citizen Kane would be Speed 2. All joking aside here's 10 reasons why the movie kicked A$$! 10. Even a 1974 Camaro rocks given some TLC & a little faith 9. Mustang = BAD, Camaro = GOOD 8. If Transformers DID exist they sure as hell WOULD only disguise themselves as RWD cars... 7. As cool as it was the catroon can't hold the candle to todays CGI 6. The Energon Cube mak…

I know it isn't the "American way" but I'm tired as hell of finance charges and being tied to payments. In fact, I'd like to find a way to never borrow again. Supposedly, 07/07/07 is a lucky day. Not 100% "lucky" for me ... but, finally ... for the first time in 2007 ... my older 4 Monte Carlos saw road pavement! My sister, Joy, came over early Saturday morning so we could clean up her 2007 Dodge Dakota quad cab w/manual transmission. Once we got done, we ate lunch ... and then went to the garage where the older 4 are stored. We drove each car about 15 miles ... just enough to get gas in 'em. MPGs were anywhere from just over 12 to upwards of 17; I don't really count these, considering how long they've been sitting and the "false start" a few weeks ago. I drove the '72 and '79; sis drove the '81 and '76. I would've liked…

Absolutely positive? Well, okay then. The one and only 2007 North American Car of the Year: the 2007 Saturn Aura XE V6 in Berry Red Metallic. Great band, one of the ones from the 90s that I think will be still be remembered long after the fact. It's one of the few bands where they have changed their style throughout the years yet I still enjoy it all. My favorite album is Siamese Dream. My favorites on it are Soma, Disarm, Cherub Rock, and Mayonnaise. Soma is just a kick ass song, one of the best ones put out by SP IMHO. People complained about Adore's change of direction but I like it. And even though Machina didn't sell well, it's a great album with a lot of good songs. One thing SP never seemed to do was sell out their sound to become more mainstream. They always did their own thing and a lot of thei…

Hand-me-down Special is a 1977 not 1978 like this one but I still stopped breating for a sec. =Enjoy. P.S. Under 11 in a 5000 lbs. car... Impressive!

Yesterday, I finally began work on the electra. I started by sanding down all of the rust on the passenger side and spraying it with semi flat white auto enamel. Today, im going to continue doing that u tillall of the rust is gone. Then im going to use body filler to fill in the dings, small dents, and a few holes i discovered. then im going to repaint. Finally, its going to the paintshop for a new coat of paint. As, money flow increases, the nasty rear quarter damage will get removed. After the exterior, theres only a few mechanical things to get done. The interior just needs a headliner.

Before the marriage: He: Yes. At last. It was so hard to wait. She: Do you want me to leave? He: NO! Don't even think about it. She: Do you love me? He: Of course! She: Have you ever cheated on me? He: NO! Why you even asking? She: Will you kiss me? He: Yes! She: Will you hit me? He: No way! I'm not that type of person! She: Can I trust you? Now for "after the marriage" you can read it from bottom to the top !!!!

Last night's Metallica show here in Lisbon was very, very good! Those guys seem to have plenty of energy left in them and if the setlist is any indication of where they got or are getting inspiration for their new album, then let me tell you it is promising: apart from Reload's The Memory Remains, everything they pleyed was from the 1983-1991 period. Needless to say, but my voice is completely f#cked up today Here's the setlist: Creeping Death For Whom The Bell Tolls Rid The Lightning Disposable Heroes The Unforgiven ...And Justice For All The Memory Remains The Four Horsemen Orion Fade To Black Master of Puppets Battery - - - - Sad But True Nothing Els…

Yesterday, Black and Blue Landscaper and I made the trip out the PA turnpike for this event ahead of a terrible fatal accident which later shut down the turnpike for many hours. Once there, we met up with Ocnblu and had a great time checking out all that there was to see at this year's event. We saw the Camaro Concept convertible ,of course, and I spoke very briefly with the Fbodfather himself though there was no time to really chat since his time is more than spoken for at events like this. I've decided to do something different this time rather than simply posting the pics, after each one I will at least caption it. In some cases I will expand on an aspect of the sh…

It looks like I'll be moving to Canada in a few months. I don't yet know if I'll be moving to Newfoundland or Ontario ... that really depends on the job application that my wife has for a position in Ottawa. One thing I need to ask about are regulations dealing with after market driving lights. I have a couple of sets of Cibie Super Oscars that I've been using on my cars in Australia for the past 35 years. I'm wondering if I should sell them before I leave or pack them up and bring them with me.

ATLANTA - Investigators are looking into who altered pro wrestler Chris Benoit’s Wikipedia entry to mention his wife’s death hours before authorities discovered the bodies of the couple and their 7-year-old son. Benoit’s Wikipedia entry was altered early Monday to say that the wrestler had missed a match two days earlier because of his wife’s death. A Wikipedia official, Cary Bass, said Thursday that the entry was made by someone using an Internet protocol address registered in Stamford, Conn., where World Wrestling Entertainment is based. This time, it was the sebring. We were driving to our neighbors family's house and everything was fine. We got to their street an in order for my mom to park in front of the house, she had to make a u turn. So she made the turn and all of a sudden, it felt like we had hit the curb, went onto it and then drove back onto the street. In actuality we hit a pile of broken cement that was left by the town in the street about 2.5 feet high. There is damage on the sheet metal below the front passenger door and the bottom corner of the bumper is scraped and a little deformed. PICS TO COME

Yeah so, I'm on vacation this week. I leave to go camping tomorrow and I bought a new tent that sets up in the truck bed. It got here fast, I ordered it Friday and it came on Saturday. So I put the truck in the backyard, took off the tonneau and did a test set-up. All the hype on the box said "20 minute setup!" Yahright. An hour later and I finally got the thing erected. The tent is made by a Canadian manufacturer, so the instructions were written in English... with a French accent. Oui? Non. Anyway... ha, I hope to look less like a retodd tomorrow at the campground setting this thing up.

I just happened to check a Grand Theft Auto site today, first time in about four months, and there is a new trailer posted of the next GTA, simply titled "IV". Check it out!! It looks like it is set in Liberty City (which now has many realistic-looking New York landmarks like the Empire State Building, MetLife [GetALife] Building, Flatiron Building, and Chrysler Building), but I've heard rumors the next GTA would also take place in Europe...maybe they're hinting at Eastern Europe?

#1 Take decent pictures - preferrably not ones that I have to run through an FBI image enhancing lab and piece together like a puzzle. #2 Be reasonable - Just because you spent $6000 putting $h!ty equipment on a $300 car doesn't mean it is therefore worth $6300. #3 Think within means - People who shop Ferrari don't shop Craigslist #4 Keep it real - Don't try to sell woefully phony cars. #5 Know what you're selling - If you don't remember what kind of car you're offering, go out and read the name off of it. #6 Speak English - When selling a car to a large audience, don't use stupid cliquey terms that you and your other four broke, unemployed…

Hey guys: I made it! I am here. Just woke up from sleeping for about 6 hours at my cousins' house. It is hot and humid. It was a free ticket, so I had to put up with the routing. It took 37 hours of flying and FIVE segments to find available seats. The routing: 1 - Delta - Portland to Salt Lake City (Delta hub) 2 - Delta - Salt Lake City to Atlanta (Delta hub) - "red eye" 3 - Delta - Atlanta to Montreal 4 - Air France - Montreal to Paris - "red eye," they all are 5 - Air France - Paris to Florence Kid in the candy store experience: Upon arrival at the Air France check in at Montreal, I asked if my "favorite" seat on the 747 was available. It was not. I s…

I'm going to have to buy a truck... not that it wasn't fun to get the rental filthy driving this... This is from my trip this week to the Idaho Falls, ID area, where I will be moving in a couple weeks. First, you drive along seeing pretty much nothing but this... Then you suddenly come to this... What's this? A road? SWEEEET! Just to clarify... It gets better, you can drive up another road to the other side, or follow along the bottom of the ravine. From the other side: Road along the bottom: The area I'll be living in is flat, but is right beside the foothills to the rockies. This was barely getting into rolling hills, not even the foothills, l…

Maybe it is just me, but I have noticed quite a few rusty Caravans lately... Not the beat up ones from the 80s...I'm talking late 90s early 00s.... And it is not just a bits of rust (like those who never. ever wash the car ) This rusting is everywhere-doors, hood, hatch, front doors, sliding doors.... Now I expect this out of the older cars (80s, early 90s), but some of these vans are barely 10 years old. A good griend of my mom has a 03 Caravan-and the sliding door alreay has a decent amount of rust on it. Makes me sad. I was actually considering a SB caravan to replace the wagon ( More room for friends/family hockey stuff)... Hmmm...Do you guys notice t…

So yes, I've been busy. Sorry I have been absent on here. I'm not "back" either, you probably will see very little of me in the next few weeks. Installing a water pump on my 1959 Buick for the 8th time the other day I cracked the timing chain cover so I can drive the car about 20 miles & or 30 minutes between 2 gallons fillups of H20. My STS is still not sold, it just might have to go to the junkyard tomorrow if the landlord is still having a cow. The Datsun sits in the mini-carport. Untouched, not roadworthy but still together. As far as my personal life, well I think I will keep my personal life "personal" for now, but a LOT has/is happening.…

Anybody know about this guy? I've heard lots of good things about him. He seems to be particularly popular with Internet folk. Official Ron Paul 2008 Website Honestly, I have no idea who I would vote for in the upcoming presidential election. Currently, it would probably be Paul, McCain, Giuliani, or abstain, in that order. At any rate, I can't very much trust anything the corporate media says, since that's more or less what I'm voting against. (I am aware of Lounge rule #2. I'm hoping this will spark nothing more than -- at most -- a constructive debate.)

Today as I sat behind yet another Toyota Highlander Limited 4X4 Automatic V6 at a stop light, it hit me...all of this badging announcing to the world what your car is equiped with really makes me mad! It is unsightly, usually misalligned, and truthfully, what purpose does it serve? Add to it the obligatory dealership logo tag, and it really starts cluttering up the back ends of cars. Am I the only person who hates this? Also, a worst offenders or oddest thing you have ever seen listed on the back of a car as an option list would be fun to read. I really hope that GM cuts down on the badging I have seen in early shots shown here of the G8 GT V8...all of which was p…

I found out recently that my best friend from high school and his girlfriend are members of Quixtar, successor to the pyramid-scheme Amway that has been around since the 70s. He first mentioned something to me a couple weeks ago when we were golfing about making money and only having to work a few hours a week by selling things. I was kinda interested because it sounded pretty easy (I assumed it was just some on-line business type of thing) and he told me it was called Quixtar. But something about that name hung in the back of my mind later that evening when I was back home I remembered a guy trying to recruit me to Quixtar when I was a sophomore in college and thin…

I'm not asking if you hold yourself back in terms of what you can accomplish. Instead, either online or in person, do you hold back part of your personality or thoughts or views? In other words, do people experience the _complete_ you? If you hold back ... why? Is your opinion not popular? Is a passion of yours "too weird"? Do you feel like an outcast ... or that you don't belong? If you don't hold back ... have you always been this way ... or did you experience a change that made you decide to "throw caution to the wind" and let people see the complete you? OR ... are you like me ... a mixture of the two, depending on the people and situation? Cort:33swm."Mr Mon…

Seeing my older 4 Monte Carlos literally covered in dust, and sadly STILL not "on the road" for 2007, made me realize I don't have a lot more weekends to really give them a cleaning. Heck, last year, I only washed the older 4 MCs (all 4 on one Saturday) ... didn't even wax 'em. Since that isn't the "norm" for me, I hope to change that this year...we'll see. I managed to get the '87 MC LS waxed 3 times, though, last year. So far, I've cleaned and waxed the '87 MC LS once this year. Normally, I wash, wax and clean the interior of the older 4 MCs once a year. I just dust them off every so often during the rest of the time that they are out ... unless they get caught in…

What is this? So... I'm trying to end the seemingly never ending saga of what is causing my Milly's engine to miss. We've been unable to really find anything wrong with it that would cause that. Yesterday, it suddenly got worse, where it actually stalled on me twice, while moving at that. It's never done that before. It still seems like its something with intake or one of the sensors. I noticed that upon shutting the engine off, it sounded like there was a vacuum effect. I had my dad listen for it to try to find where it came from. Seems that it's the air box. My dad messed around with it... Well, anyways, to finish, my dad thinks the problem could be that thing, w…

Ok some of you wanted to know where I have been. Some have e-mailed, IMed, PMed and one person left a comment in my profile. I will admit I have not been myself lately; I have been more than a little touchy. Someone I talk to from here regularly said something on MSN Messenger that well to say the least pissed me off! I then decided to clean out my profile and take a few days to see if I wanted to come back. It's been a combination of things but none have to do with C&G, it's more me than anyone or anything else. I don't normally tell private things about me but in this case some of you have noticed so I will explain. Three weeks ago my wife (yes someone actuall…

Just a quick update, since I'm exhausted and not only did it all happen so fast, it happened during me preparing, giving, grading, and filing for, a State Exam. I lost hearing in my right ear for a month. Doctors determined it was full of fluid, but why wasn't it draining? Turns out after tests and a catscan, there was a growth inside my head causing pressure and blockage. Anyhoo, doctor insisted it come out right away because it was large and of my age it and its location, there were possibilities of cancer. I went in, it seemed odd that both of the nurses attending me (one in Ambulatory Surgery, and one in the OR) actually spoke Italian. The last thing I rememb…
