This weekend I participated in my yearly ritual of viewing the newest Saw flick. I must say that I was especially impressed and in fact, I think this is probably the BEST Saw movie since the original (Which IMO is the best Saw) The movie really digs deeper into why Jigsaw became what he is and invokes sympathy on the part of the viewer. It also wraps up even more of the loose ends in all three of the previous movies and it has the classic Saw twist at the end. I would reccommend it to anyone who loves suspense and psychological thrillers. It's pretty graphic but I didn't think it was as bloody or intense as the last one. (I'm very squeamish) Those of you who watch horror…

A friend of mine recently died of cancer. I was sad to see her go in such a way as she was a beautiful soul and a wonderful friend. For her funeral, a group of us (3 ladies and 5 guys) all got together and shaved our heads and donated the contents to locks of love to have wigs made. We attended her funeral bald headed. Since I shaved my head I have continued to shave it every night. I normally have thick hair and I must say its a big change to get accustomed to. I didn't realize how much of my body heat my hair held in my body. It's cold bein bald.

Yep...happened again...same car too. So we've had the Prizm back for about 2 weeks now, I've been meaning to post about it but haven't got any good pics to show yet so I haven't done so. Anyway, I was working yesterday, coming back from my first delivery, I pulled onto the street beside work and parked on the side. There was a red Silverado in front of me and some other car in front of him. I backed up a bit to give him some extra room to pull out, so he had 5 feet or so plus the space between him and the other car. I lock up and start to walk to the shop. I notice he backing up and for some reason I felt compelled to watch...only to find the f@#king retard backing into …

I'm looking for a few things for the Cavalier to correct some of my frustrations with the car... First of All I'm looking for a Delco Electronics AM/FM/CD Stereo w/Theftlock that would fit the 1995-1999 Cavalier to replace the current unit, a Cassette unit: What would be the best place to get one? Junkyard? Ebay? I know that if I watch my prices I could get one on Ebay for about 50-70$ USD (46-65$ CDN) I know the dealer would rape me on the price, but if I went to a junkyard with a screwdriver and found a Cavalier, Malibu, Lumina, Camaro, or Venture with one, what would would you say is a fair price for one? Also... I think I may get a new rear bumper cover fo…

I have been really busy lately and decided to stop by toady, I'm shocked by how many new faces and articles are on here, makes me fell like a first timer. Well, started a new little job on the side this week for a small used car dealership in St. Petersburg. I'm kind of their internet sales guy, taking pictures of the new arrivals and posting them up on Cars.com, Craigslist, etc. and trying to set up appointments for showings. Kinda fun and I must admit the fast-paced dealer environment is a little fun. Again, its a small lot (~25 cars), but it keeps pretty busy with 5-10 new cars in every week. Anyway, just thought I'd share. Here's an example of a listing I put together. Hopefully it makes you want to buy it! Clicky

When you buy a new GM car or truck, you don't just get an owner's manual anymore. You get other stuff, like that how-do-i-turn-off-the-wipers pamphlet as well as being mailed other stuff after purchase. One of the things sent to new Saturn owners after purchase is a Welcome Kit. Starting with the 2008 Saturn OUTLOOK - and continuing forth with the AURA, SKY, ASTRA, and VUE - this is what the Kit will contain... This is but a small example of the exciting things on the horizon for Cheers and Gears, both things that were planned and amazing things that suddenly came up. I'd just like to thank everyone here at C&G - the other mods, the members, everybody - for sha…

I caught myself doing this more and more lately, actually being somewhat aggressive in my attempts to keep the foreign car drivers at the curb as I go past. I have even slowed down when there would have been plenty of room behind me for the guy waiting on the side to merge into traffic, but decided his Prius or Tundra could wait for the next guy to go by. Yeah, I am a child, I know. (by the way, if it is a matter of safety for the person on the side of the road, I always let them in, even I am not that uncool - even if the car they are driving is!) On the contrary, if there is a hot Domestic that might have the room to get in if I speed up, I do to allow them in. Ju…

In the wake of the popularity of the Lambdas and GM's switch to crossovers in favor of minivans, C&D has this on their front page: "Why buy a crossover -- Five concrete reasons to buy a minivan instead." (Including, SURPRISE, GM's best selling Lambda as the poster child for and a subject of the article) LINK: http://www.caranddriver.com/features/14267...-crossover.html Do I think this is a direct result of the Lambdas and their popularity? Probably not. Do I think it might've weighed into C&D's decision to write the piece AND use GM as the poster boy? Absolutely. Notcie how all of the japanese companies are merely tranferred sales from one model to another. Ye…

How often DO we let the attitudes of others affect our mood? How many arguments/"flame wars" would be prevented if we stopped to THINK before we typed/posted or spoke? --- "The Law of the Garbage Truck." How often do you let other people's nonsense change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive employee ruin your day? The mark of a successful person is how quickly she can get back her focus on what's important. Sixteen years ago I learned this lesson in the back of a New York City taxi cab. Here's what happened.... I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Grand Central Station. We were driving in the right lane when, all of a …

...instead, like 2 cars of mine previously, being parked was what got my '87 MC LS hit. [My former "Silver Bullet" '88 MC LS was backed into on the street in front of our house; my former "Green Hornet" '00 LS was hit in the parking lot outside of the HardRock Cafe in downtown Nashville ... both with NO note left.] *sighs* I took my usual walk about 11 this morning. As I head back to the building, I pass by where my car is parked. This morning, I noticed that the license plate didn't look quite right. I'm kinda thinking about it. It's an 06 LS Coupe, with 30k on it... It's quite rough on the outside (I'm detailing it now) with quite a few scratches, dents....a bit rough on the inside, but I'm making it look pretty decent.... It's been in an accident-though it was a light one- and inpected by both myself and my dad ( car is in family) Even though it looks rough on the outside, the Eco is in good shape (almost all highway miles) and the rest underneath is good too..... and I could probably pick up between 5-7 grand...... Even though it's a coupe (really don't need another one), it would make a good replacement for the wagon, and can be paid off fairly quic…

This morning started off as just about any other Sunday morning in my house. I slept in until about 11:15 AM, mom and my cousin were off at church, dad was busy out in the garage, my brother was in the kitchen eating breakfast. I did my usual morning tasks (eat, brush teeth, pop my contacts in), when I decided to play some Game & Watch on my Game Boy. I’m sitting on the couch in the living room, when my dad tells me he’s going up to Home Depot for some stuff to fix our chimney with. I see him standing outside, with the driver’s door to the Sonoma open, and it looks like he’s going through something. A minute later, he knocks on the front door (it was locked), and tell…

Was just searching through for some Motorweek videos...and found this one of a 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix Turbo. Guess I was out of the loop, unaware of the TURBO 3.1L V6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGcEqvOgEVw Otherwise, a really interesting review, and WOW, so evident of that awful 80's/90's "GM syndrome" with the visbily clunky and junky interior, KIT car dash lights and buttons, etc. And really love that, uh, "great" braking action of the 1990 ABS system and wonderfully non-sophisticated mushy all-strut W-body suspension. As much as I had to laugh, really brought back fond memories of crusing around in my grandmother's '92 Grand Prix LE sedan--that was still, by…

So a while back, I posted that my mom was interested in buying a Saturn Outlook. However, my parents need something that can tow our trailer (Our Dakota does it, barely!). It's an Aerolite 26' that comes in around 4200 pounds. They've come to the conclusion that the Outlook won't fit the bill, and moved on to the next step. That step is either a Silverado/Sierra or Tahoe/Suburban. They've been cruising the internet to find deals on what will be left-over '07's. Part of the renewed look into a car is my fault. I am applying to college, and colleges look at how much equity you have, and if you have a car payment/mortgage/etc... your financial package usually incre…

Save the Earth in Six Hard Questions By Steven Landsburg http://www.slate.com/id/2176156/ Barring a last-minute intervention by the Supreme Court, the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize will be shared by Albert Gore Jr. Admittedly, Gore has been less of a menace to world peace than some previous laureates (think Henry Kissinger). But there is nothing particularly peaceable about Gore's rhetorical approach to climate policy. At his most pugnacious, Gore has depicted the fundamental trade-off as one between environmental responsibility and personal greed. Of course, as everyone over the age of 12 is perfectly aware, the real trade-off is between the quality of our own lives and the …

The latest version of Autoline Detroit makes me think that the press is starting to get the idea that the foreign cars aren't so hot. Comments on the new accord include, loud & buzy. toyota isn't given much for positive comments on their current state. It was even noted that a few years ago the head of toyota bowed and appologized to Heads of State in Japan only to have the years following have toyota continue to produce poor quality products. http://www.autolinedetroit.tv/

I'm in the process of packing for a move and am getting depressed just looking at all the things I have. With me, it's mostly PRINTED MATTER. However, neat stuff like old car brochures and ocean liner brochures from when I was a kid will go into a special file...it will be hard to find that stuff again. The Wii's price and ability to play old Nintendo games is definitely a plus, but the graphics aren't even in the same ball park as the others. With a big HDTV to play on, it seems like almost a waste to not go HD. The Wii just looks like a lot of fun. The PS3 is a lot more expensive but has Bluray, which makes it justifiable. I have never played one though, so I can't compare it to the 360. From what I have played the 360, it is impressive, and the price is a l…

When I got to my destination, I heard that there was an accident that happened about 6 minutes after I passed there, a school bus full of school children sideswiped the dump truck, shearing the side of the bus off and killing one nine year old kid... I nearly demolished a Saab 9-3 convertible last night..... but if I had, he would have deserved it. We're on a two lane, one way road coming up to a light. At the light your options are proceed straight or make a right if you're in the right hand lane... and only straight if you're in the left hand lane. Note that no matter which lane you're in, you can go straight. I'm in the right hand lane following this Saab, no one is in front of him, when about 50 yards before the light he decides that he needs to be in the left hand lane RIGHT f@#kING NOW. Of course there is traffic in the left hand lane already so he just slams on his brakes and puts his signal on.... apparen…

Western automakers are fighting to stop sales of China-built cars that resemble their models. Fiat has gone to courts in Italy and China to block sales of the Peri, a car built by Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor. The Peri is almost an exact replica of the Panda, Europe’s best-selling minicar, Fiat says. BMW and Daimler are suing European distributors to stop sales of China-built cars that appear to be clones of their cars. Meanwhile, Toyota has promised to do a better job obtaining design patents for its models in worldwide markets after the UFO, an SUV that closely resembles the second-generation RAV4, went on sale in Europe. As Toyota Motor Corp. joins the Big Three Detroit automakers in trying to soften up fuel economy legislation winding through Congress that would require a Corporate Average Fuel Economy standard of 35 mpg by 2020, what gets lost in the controversy is that the carmakers actually could achieve the target. They just want a little more time — and money. Key to the fuel economy target in the likely bill: building pickups and sport-utility vehicles that average 27.6 mpg by 2020. Despite complaints from automakers, that goal is certainly attainable. But it's going to take a well-funded information campaign aimed at consumers to prime the marketplace for what amounts to a re-eng…

Well upon going down to the dealer to get the oil changed in the Cavalier this morning, My dad went with me and we decided to wait for the car, so we browsed the showroom to kill time. We checked out a black 2007 Cobalt LT that 'twas fairly well equipped and remarked that it would probably be better for my mother than the Maxx, he current daily car... I think, along with him, that the woman is just dangerous with any more than 4 Cylinders. We were treated to a 20KPH over the speed limit ride yesterday in the Maxx illustrated this thought pretty well... Well I knew that there were some late model DeVilles on the used lot and we waddled out there to check them out. We d…

NEW YORK - Jim Ammons grumbles to himself every time he fills up his Ford Expedition, but he says gas prices would have to almost quadruple to $10 a gallon before he’d ditch his SUV. Still, paying $55 to fill his 20 gallon tank isn’t easy for the information specialist. “This right here is catastrophic for a lot of families,” Ammons, 54, said this week at a Houston Chevron station that was charging $2.65 a gallon for regular unleaded. “A lot of them have to choose: Do I buy food, do I send my kids to school or do I fill up my tank?” That choice may soon get a lot more difficult. The steep rise in oil prices to $90 a barrel over the past month means American consumers a…

So, I want to design cars for GM. What colleges should I look for when selecting one, and what should I apply for that would give me a greater chance of becoming a designer for GM?

As I was reading the 2007 JD Power Report for long term dependibility, it made me think. If consumer reports shows a low marking for toyota vehicles now (model specific) then JD Power will show a MUCH bigger issue later. As I see it, JD Power is closer to realistic reporting as they are not subscriber based, unlike cr which has a loyal toyota fan base. If that fan base is not used then the problems with the 3 vehicles will show 10 fold. This could easily knock lexus out of the top marking. Not only that; it could knock toyota as a whole out of the top. Hmm . . . Now add to the fact that in the past few years quality issues and recalls have been a trend at toyota t…

So I climbed the stairs of the CN Tower yesterday for a charity event. 1776 stairs (144 flights) Took me 15 minutes, 1 second. The records listed on the wall at the top were quite amusing... Fastest stair climb was 7:41 Fastest stair climb on a pogo stick: something like 58 minutes Most stairs in one day: Up the tower 17 times. Other numbers I don't remember, but had records listed: Fastest stair climb on a modified motorcycle!! Fastest stair climbs while carrying items, including: Engine from a Suzuki Samurai, 200 lb pumpkin. Most stairs fallen down: all 1776, on purpose. People will do some dumb crap to set a record.

I wanted to spruce up my desktop a little bit, so I made a GM wallpaper that is an optimistic look at where the company has been and where it's headed. It's sized for my monitor, which is widescreen (1280x1060 I think) but could probably be used on regular monitor dimensions if the "stretch to fit" option isn't selected. ~800x600 Full size image: http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/9645/gmbackground2vd8.jpg

Finally owning a house, it's time to set up the garage like I want. Pics: .jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /> So, 2-car garage, extra deep on one side. Door on the right goes to the back yard, door on the left goes inside. I know I want to: -add insulation -generous amounts of pegboard -mount bench grinder & vice someplace -probably more lighting (though it is brighter than the pics make it seem) -rack for extra set of wheels (autox) -big air compressor -sink (pre-plumbed beside door in front of white car) -table or miter saw I'm expecting to decide to rebuild the work bench somewhat. It's very sturdy, but underneath is almost us…

So, I'm somewhat a fan of what Chevy has done with the HHR - tasteful retro in a useful package. I think they should build on that... First, the idea of a "Heritage" line of cars. The HHR can be billed as the first one (and works well since it stands for "Heritage High Roof." Then try one more. If that's a hit, try another. Essentially having some semi-specialty products in the line of Scion, but without the need for an actual new brand (just a "series"), and with actual product heritage to draw from and inspire people. Granted, some do not love retro design - that's why these are nitch products (they might command a better profit margin that way anyway...). First…

I can't believe what just happened to me. This kind of crap only happens on TV, until now. So I was walking home from the bar with a friend and we thought we might go buy some... herbs. He knew a park where people normally sell so we went there and asked somebody. Guy ended up leading us to a girl who phoned a friend. This should have been hint #1. Why do we need to go somewhere? Nope, we're drunk, and too trusting. Proceed! So the guy proceeds to tell us that the seller is really paranoid and he needs to do the deal for us. (Hint #2) We agreed because me and my friend are both bigger than him and good runners, should he try something stupid. So sure enough he takes of…

CHICAGO - Julio and Mauricio Cabrera are gay brothers who are convinced their sexual orientation is as deeply rooted as their Mexican ancestry. They are among 1,000 pairs of gay brothers taking part in the largest study to date seeking genes that may influence whether people are gay. The Cabreras hope the findings will help silence critics who say homosexuality is an immoral choice. If fresh evidence is found suggesting genes are involved, perhaps homosexuality will be viewed as no different than other genetic traits like height and hair color, said Julio, a student at DePaul University in Chicago. Adds his brother, “I think it would help a lot of folks understand us b…

So Thursday I came home from class...uneventful. A few hours later i needed to go run some errands...so I went to my car and got ready to leave. Turned the key and...nothing. The lights flickered and that was it. A "wtf" had occurred. So I went and got the Shadow to jump it. Started right up, but as soon as I took the jumpers off the car stalled. I was like "well, $h!" Now, the Prizm is still out of action,so the only car left is the Shadow. It's too late in the day to take it to the mechanic so the Intrepid had to sit in front of the house, dead. All I can say is that I'm lucky it decided to quit in front of the house and not say, at school. Friday I t…

A maroon sedan - alloys, etc. Obviously very new, but with far too many barcodes. Yup. It was a rental. I attempted a picture with my cell phone camera that didn't come out well, but it was definitely a rental. My evidence: Four barcodes (two windshield, one on each quarter window) Hotel parking pass Hats and beach gear on the rear parcel shelf An Enterprise rental contract on the dash Just thought it was interesting.

In the last month I have seen two '07 Aveo sedans on the side of a highway with smoke billowing out from under the hood. The first was here around Springgyfield, it was on the side of the road yet traffic was still backed up, and you could see flames poking out. The second was yesterday up near Jefferson City, where people apparently know how to drive, since it was on the shoulder and traffic was moving over, but not slowing to a creep. No flames, just thick smoke. It seems the new Aveo is indeed red hot.

Al Gore Wins 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Linkity By GERALD F. SEIB and JEFFREY BALL October 12, 2007 2:31 p.m. WASHINGTON -- Former Vice President Al Gore won a share of the Nobel Peace Prize for his work publicizing global warming, an honor that is sure to raise speculation anew about his presidential ambitions and makes it more difficult for other politicians to avoid the global-warming issue. The former vice president shares the prize with the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the Nobel Prize committee announced in Norway. The prize caps a remarkable stretch for Mr. Gore's effort to raise the profile of the climate-change debate; …

Has anybody ever played this game before? My dad's always been interested in aviation and first bought Flight Sim 4 when I was a kid, back when it was in 16 colors and only four buildings were shown for the Chicago skyline. It had an add-on program where you could build your own airports and landscapes, so I built my hometown and most of Western Iowa. Then we upgraded to Flight Sim 5 around '95, and this was huge because it now had 256 colors, texture map scenery, and thousands of airports around the US. New York and Chicago had 3D buildings, but I think that was it. Then we bought Flight Sim 95 (for Windows 95), which was another big leap because it now had 3D terra…
