So I saw in the Circuit City ad that there was a 46" Sharp Aquos 1080P LCD TV for $1200 off ($2499 down to $1299), and so me and my mom went out to see if anyone was already waiting at about 10PM last night, and there were 25 or so people in line, so we scratched that idea. Then today we went to Best Buy just to compare some and see which looked the best (more on that below), and we saw the same TV there, this time for $1399 ($100 more, but it didn't involve standing in line for 10 hours to get it). We compared all the TVs of that size, and decided it was one of the better, with only the Sonys being definitively better. After comparing all the TVs for quite some time, I…

Say you're out somewhere. There's this attractive person that you notice, and they seem to notice you. And you end up looking over at each other waaay too many times. The grocery store is a bad place for this to happen, because you get to the end of the aisle, turn to go down the next... and there they are. What makes it even more complicated is, they, or you, are with someone. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

So I showed my dad the UTE and Commodore wagon today, and he didn't really care much for either of them (he really likes the G8). He thought the UTE was pretty stupid as a Pontiac, and he didn't really like the wagon, or see much point in it (says most people would just buy a crossover). This is coming from someone who isn't a car enthusiast, but certainly more interested in them than the average Joe. Just thought I'd share, since I thought it was interesting that he is considering a G8 but doesn't like either of the other two variants.

This is mainly about my car, but also how much my life sucks in general right now. For those who may not remember or care (then don't bother reading the rest of this post), Wednesday was the day I bought my very first car, my Dodge Intrepid (Friday I took delivery of it). To celebrate, I planned to give it a thorough cleaning inside and out, especially since we were going to take it to my cousin's for Thanksgiving. However, since it was cold, raw, and kind of rainy out, I just couldn't get up the energy to go do it. So instead I got up early Thursday morning, and after baking my famous (in the family circle) Pumpkin Pie, I took it to the car wash and cleaned it inside a…

It's certainly not my driveway... Oh no, it's far from here. In fact, it's in the middle of the woods... It just didn't make it home in one piece. ...f@#king flat tires. This is the second one on a set of perfectly good tires, atleast, good enough to have passed inspection. This time, I didn't have a spare tire, since, it's in use from the flat I had a month ago. As per my wish list, new tires are in order. And, well, I have to work tomorrow morning. This is going to be interesting. Shopping... on black friday... for tires. Then... getting the Beast... and putting the new tires on... all before work. Granted, I don't think my Mom works, so I could just get a ride to …

When my kids were small, I built a really nice playhouse for them. About the same time I bought a Fiat 600 has a project car (see generic example below) My wife thought the car would look cute parked next to the playhouse. Now that my daughter has a daughter of her own, she would like to replicate the experience for her. I am looking for suggestions for diminutive sized cars to park next to the playhouse. What would you suggest. So far the leading contenders are a Nash Metropolitan or a bug-eyed sprite.

Fortwos come with luxury options like heated leather seats and power steering. The 8-foot, 8-inch Smart Fortwo micro car comes to U.S. shores in January, and even with gasoline prices well above the $3-a-gallon mark it remains to be seen whether Americans will flock to buy the tiny, two-seater car. Ranging in price from $11,590 for the base version to $16,590 for a fully loaded Fortwo Passion convertible, the 1,800-pound car boasts 40 miles per gallon — a big draw for drivers worried about high gas prices. Smart has already sold more than 770,000 Fortwos in 36 countries, and Smart USA is banking on robust sales in the United States. The Smarts on sale here will be made…

I've said every so often that I love the Pontiac GTO; although I actually fell in love with the Monaro first, because I was in OZ when I first laid eyes upon it, and was then lucky enough to take one for a (slightly illegal) spin. Now, I should have the means to pick one up used, especially with Canada's currency parity with the US Dollar. However, my problem is, is that I have learned that for whatever reason, the Government won't allow people to import the GTO into my country. So before I give the agency responsible for the regulations a call, I was wondering if anyone knows why the GTO isn't allowed into Canada, or even better, if anyone knows some way that will le…

We took one of these Lifang scooters as a down payment on a JGC and damn if it isn't kick-ass... The most appealing aspect beyond mere kick-assery is the economy. It was 4/5 empty yesterday, I filled it up for $2.15, drove about 35 miles around downtown St. Petersburg and then topped it off for $.75.

Well, first of all. Happy Thanksgiving to all. I have much to be thankful for on this day. Last night we had a close call with my grandmother. There are a lot of details that I would rather not get into here, but luckily she is still with us. For that reason, I have everything to be thankful for this day. This may seem trivial considering it all, but last night on the way back from the hospital in Grand Forks, I had the pleasure of meeting up with a little bit of nature. A (4x5 buck) and my Suburban had a little run in. Instinctively I applied the brakes when I saw him coming out of the ditch, had I not, I might have whizzed right by him. Anyway, I can't do much …

OK, so I am graduating very soon. I'm still working as co-op now, and have 4 more months of school to go, then it's done for me. So it's time for me to start thinking about what I want to do for full-time, for a living. A short while ago, I went for an interview with a major financial institution, and I was accepted and offered a position as a trainee analyst. However, the job isn't really exactly what I want to do for a living, *cough* programming and application development *cough* *cough*, and I honestly can say I totally suck at the stuff. I haven't taken the offer yet, I still have until December to decide whether I want to take the offer. The lady who interviewed …

NO IT WASN'T ME! :rotflmao: BRANDYWINE HUNDRED, Del. - A man running naked and drunk on a highway accosted several Good Samaritans and caused three accidents, according to state police. Police said Ardonas Gilbert, 26, of Chester, Pa., was running along the southbound lanes of Interstate-95 near Marsh Road about 10 p.m. Monday. Gilbert allegedly assaulted two people who tried to help him get off the road and had caused three separate traffic crashes as people swerved to try to avoid him, police said. No one was seriously injured. Gilbert was arrested and charged with two counts of assault and a single count of being drunk on the highway. He is being held at the Howar…

Yeah uh huh so we closed early at work today. When I got home and came in from the garage downstairs, I heard a snapping and cracking, and it felt cool in the downstairs family room. Apparently, someone shot out my sliding door glass. Pieces were still slowly falling out onto the floor. Glass was thrown clear across the room, and there was a hole about 1.5 inches across where the projectile came through. The door was still locked, nothing is missing, so I don't believe it was an attempted break-in. Small game season is in right now... so I'm thinking it was some idiot with a gun... or it could have been kids being little a-holes, too. My homeowner's insurance compa…

I really wanted to get the SKY a personalized license plate, but could never decide on one thing and never really liked any of the suggestions I got from family & friends. Since I'm planning to part with the SKY, it is no longer a desire. However, seeing as how I intend to get a certain type of vehicle <not mentioning b/c I want to see what you posters think my suggestion means first> in 2009 or as a 2010, I've started playing with some ideas. Look at the picture I attached and tell me what you think it means and if you like it (NJ only allows up to 7 characters/spaces, FYI).

The CA Assembly voted 74-0 to revive the state's so-called 'sideshow car seizure ordinance' that had lapsed in January. The law authorizes a police officer to seize any vehicle he wishes by asserting that it was involved in "reckless driving" on a street or in a parking lot. That State will keep the vehicle for not more than 30 days, naturally accumulating all sorts of towing, impoundment, storage & admin fees in addition to fines up to $1000. Arrest, likewise, is allowable. Punishment of siezure is imposed withOUT any finding of guilt by jury or judge. In addition, Oakland, who lax record keeping of the result of this initial law led to it's discontinuance, has repo…

The cost of Burger King's chicken fries, that is. I swear, they used to be less than $4.50... Now in some places they are up to $5.60. I don't think the cost of a crate of live chicken has gone up any. The King is greedy and just wants to take advantage of the fright from bird flu. I'm going to have to switch fast-food restaurants. BK's tasty chicken fries turn me into a chicken guzzler. If I switch to Mcdonald's, which are much less tasty, I'll ween myself off chicken and eventually become a vegetarian. It's the trend of the future. We need to save all of our chicken before bird flu makes them extinct. Think of the food chain.

I got a DVD/VCR player combo a couple years ago for Christmas and went to use it today only to find out that the DVD eject motor doesn't work. I've probably only used it 15-20 times since I've owned it because I watch a lot of movies on my laptop. It was some no-name brand called "Go Video" and my sister got the same one and had the exact same thing happen about a year ago. Country of manufacture: South Korea. Meanwhile, our 1982 RCA VCR back home still works to this day.

I was impressed by the ratings Ford got in the latest issue of cr. Someone at Ford must of found out who to pay off and how. Now it's GMs turn to find out who to pay off. They seemed to be all over the board. Oddley enough, there were a few GM cars that did great in JD Power but not so good with cr. I guess that goes back to my first statement. I did notice that the acura tl got a near perfect rating and the HHR did not. Funny, our experience is the complete opposite. Add to that, our Cobalt got a worst rating than our HHR. Not that either was bad, but our Cobalt actually was put together better in the end. With all the hoopla of cr not recommending the cam…

Chalk up another idiosyncrasis! For those of you who watch "Friday Night Lights", I'd bet I'm not the only one that noticed this.... On this past week's episode, one of the character's cars, a '75-'76 vintage Caprice/Impala wagon [believe it was the Caprice version; thought I saw the Caprice emblem on the front], was referred to as/called a "GMC wagon". In the same episode, when two of the characters torched the car, it suddenly went from being the big/roundish '75-'76 vintage Caprice/Impala wagon to the downsized/boxy '77-'79 vintage Caprice/Impala wagon. At least it was still a wagon, I suppose. And, unless my memory and fact-finding is lacking, GM never produced a…

I heard an interview on TV yesterday with oil tycoon Boone Pickens, and he said that global oil production is currently peaking at 85 million barrels per day, and that demand is still not quenched by this supply. Because of this, the price of oil will continue to increase. I think that some more supply might be squeezed out in the next decade, but regardless, I may be one of the few that hopes the price of oil continues to increase. I can afford to pay $6 per gallon of gas, that may seem selfish, but I feel like that is the best thing for this country. The best motivation for development of alternative fuels is financial motivation, people will only take electric-onl…

Any 2007 or 2008 GMC Sierra/Chevy Silverado owners that would like to post here (or send me a PM) about what kind of average MPG you've been getting? It would be helpful to my inquiring mind - I'm curious as to what "real world" MPG numbers look like. It probably would be good to know whether you have a reg/ext/crew cab, 2wd or 4wd, and what size engine you've got under the hood. Thanks in advance!

Have any of you done an E85 conversion? If so, was there any issues? Any after market group that is better than another? Costs? The proposed car; 1995 Caprice 9C1 (LT1 engine). I know there will be alot of people apposed to it and I do want to know why. Please note it's not about the cost, but rather the reduction of oil use. My wife really wants the car and the only way I can justify it is by not using SO much gasoline (environment and national deficit).

This all goes back to my decision to sell the Fusion. I've decided that I want something that will be cheap, that I can use as a stop-gap between the Fusion and whatever good car I get to replace it. The Aurora I posted the other day had its price drop to $800, but I dont have that available to me in liquid form right now (unless I want to pay some $h! late) and its not really local, so it would have to wait until the end of the month, by then it will probably be sold. The Fairmont that I looked into back in September for $700 is now $495 and just flat-out quirky-cool. Tonight, I stumbled upon an 80's Caprice wagon with a rust-free, straight body and …

I was just wondering if anybody knows approximately what the 1999 Riviera Silver Arrows go for. I never see any up for sale and I know somebody who was wondering how much they go for generally. He actually has two of them in storage in mint condition. I think they are both under 40k miles. Anybody know how much they would be worth? The price guides tell me nothing. Thanks.

Is it me, or does there seem to be little to no fan fare coming out of GM for this years LA auto show at this time. It seemed like the weekend before the auto show last year we knew atleast a little bit of what was going ot happen. Anybody care to speculate what will show up at this years show?

1982 Fleetwood Brougham Triple Yellow 44,000 original miles Leather No rust All Florida car Roof/leather in excellent shape Fillers still intact HT4100 V8 (maybe I shouldn't mention that) Everything works except the manual passenger mirror (linkage prob broke) Dual power seats, fuel economy computer, AM/FM/Cassette, digital climate control, cruise, power trunk pulldown If I didn't already have the Buick (and the associated money spent on it), I'd be totally rockin' this Caddy now. Rides lover-ly, too. Its going up on eBay tonight.

I'm excitied and proud to announce that myself and Smallchevy will be attending the South Florida Auto Show Friday, November 9th on behalf of Cheers & Gears. During the pre-show press events, we'll have the opportunity to Bryan Nesbitt (GM Vice President of Design North America), John Howell (Director of Marketing, Cadillac), and Troy Clarke (President of GM North America) as well as being there to see the world premiere of the Cadillac Escalade Hybrid. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments for these gentlemen and we'll be glad to ask or share them on your behalf.

That's what the Cutlass is. I plug it in at night like an electric car, it billows black smoke like a diesel, and runs on regular gasoline. I win.

Here is an idea I think GM should should collaborate on with a major Computer maker. Imagine having your favorite GM brand or model as your desktop, laptop, or mouse. This is a Ferrari version of what I mean. Laptop Mouse

I'm beginning to really dislike the Cutlass. It's turning into more of a continuing problem than a solution. I think the transmission might be starting to go. It's hesitating more and more and is becoming quite clunky. The other night, it gave me a scare as it did not want to shift at all. I'm thinking it just got too hot at the time, but the fluid on the dipstick had black residue on it while the fluid itself matched the paint, a reddish brown. It didn't seem to be overly low on fluid, though. Low, but not low enough to cause those sort of problems. As long as it doesn't return to the state it was in that night, it'll be driveable, but I have a feeling this is a sign o…

I’ve finally made some headway in my car-hunting process. After a lengthy discussion between myself and my dad (which entailed me promising to seek employment), he told me I could go ahead and send an email to the seller of a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue GLS. The link to the listing is here. My question is, are there any major defects in the 1998 model year Intrigue? I know it’s got the 3.8L V6/4T60E (or some variant of that transmission) combo, which I’ve heard only good things about their longevity. Dad seems to think that because it has over 100K miles on it, that it’ll be needing a new transmission and/or a head gasket job soon if it already hasn’t, which I think sounds a…

Why I am still a GM fan. I wonder because even some of GMs notably excellent recent efforts don't appeal to me personally. Examples: CTS The Lambdas Malibu It's not that I think the competition is better, I simply don't care for these cars. Then I remember: The 900s The Kappas Zeta Corvette Still, I'm not salivating over anything which I could go buy tomorrow. So, as my sig still says, I'm still waiting.

Not to start a riot or anything but I've kinda always wondered this. Have you known it to upset a Jewish person to see the Nazi flag? Only reason I ask is because in my town, quite a few people wave around the Confederate flag (MD's kinda Northerly to me, go figure) and lots of people I know get pissed off when they see it. It annoys me but never gets me angry. It's kinda like a flag of a failed nation to me, and I can get over the negative connotations. I mean, the oppression is sad and stuff, but if it's a sign of the culture that some southern people still hold dear, it's OK to me and I actually respect it. So what about Jewish people? Since not a lot of German …

I need a set of Chevy center caps for my wagon. They would have to fit into a 3" diameter hole in the wheels I have and be of the snap-in variety. They also need to give me at least 3/4" of clearance beyond the surface of the wheel. Can anyone think of a stock chevy application that fits the bill?

That's the current value of the American dollar. Last time the Canadian dollar was this high was 1977. I hope this continues so that we can tell jokes about American money for a change. :AH-HA_wink:

Even after a wonderful afternoon (Sunday, November 4) of driving my older 4 MCs, I was already a bit shaky when I pulled into the gas station, having just avoided a collision when another driver turned left directly in front of me at the intersection just before the gas station entrance. So, when I stepped out of my '87 MC LS and was promptly greeted by a stranger who seemingly appeared out of the thin air [i think he just walked there, I never did see him near a car], asking several detailed questions about my car, I began shaking a bit more. The stranger noticed my shakiness and quickly said something about that I shouldn't be concerned...except, he kept REPEATING it …
