So Tuesday night, I'm Christmas shopping for the wife and I'm about to leave the parking lot of the store I'm in. A black Toyota Highlander goes through the intersection and I pull out to the left (behind it). Suddenly, this dumb woman stops, throws the damn thing into reverse and boom! Takes out my front bumper. Pulled it completely off. *sigh* While waiting for the officer to show up, she conveys her wish to just write me a check once I get an estimate. Apparently in order to keep her monthly premium down, her deductible is outrageous, something like $1000. So I tentatively agree, especially after she's honest with the officer about whose fault it was. Well u…

I almost fell out of my drivers side window when I noticed this Chevrolet advertisement on a billboard parallel to I-85 in Charlotte NC. The ad is sponsored by Sonny Hancock Chevrolet. I'm home for a week. But when I go back to Charlotte, I *WILL* get a picture, you can bet on it! I was LOVING every minute of it! I mean, just with the term 'yuppie' alone they have what, like 85% of Toyota's clientele captured. EDIT: Der, I spelled Yankee wrong... LOL.

Well, I managed to plaster two deer the other night on my way to pick up my girlfriend (plans ruined obviously) and since my car is 11 years old with like, 127,000 miles, my insurance company totalled it, but it's still driveable and I haven't quite decied whether to buy it back or abandon it and hope I could get something else quick or what. Then, a week after hitting those deer, I was on my way to work driving at like 4:30 am and hit another one going 55, but ironically, this deer didn't cause any damage. P.S. All deer listed (3) were dead. I have nicknamed my car "The Slayer". Got stuck in my drive during the big snow storm and couldn't go to work. My road wasn't…

Yesterday, me and the family went shopping in my dad's big, bright red F250. Not an easy thing to miss, by any means. That didn't stop some dumb broad in a Windstar. Slowing down for traffic stopped at intersection, she must have been blind. As we stop, we feel a jerk and hear a pop. We were rearended. My dad is cursing like a sailor. We pull off, the dumb broad follows suit. My dad gets out to inspect. Well, what do you know... she rammed the hitch. No damage to the truck, but she f@#ked up front bumper. Dumb bitch. Yes, yes... Not really a highlight of the curse, but it was mentionable. Otherwise, winter driving is interesting. The only vehicles you see wrecking a…

Just got back from our dealer and we will likely be rolling in a W-Body by the end of the week. The Buick we initially came down to see was sold on Saturday but we saw a 2007 Impala on the Used Lot that was built less than six months ago and only had 11K Kms (6500 miles) on it, so we figured what the hell, seems like the right car and the price is right so we're gonna buy it (pending my mother's approval). It's Dark Silver Impala LS with Graphite Cloth interior and Wood Interior trim. It's also got alloys, spoiler, XM Radio, OnStar, Bucket Seats w. Floor Shift, Remote Start, Those neat folding rear seat cushion things (I don't know what they're called), and Leather Wra…

Is there any of you here? I'm looking to get a keyboard. Some guys play drums, some guys play guitar... Me, I want to play piano. Always wanted to, but lately this feeling has been increased for some unknown reason. I figure, being that time of year, it'd make a nice gift for myself. I just wondering what I should look for. There are many of them out there and I have no idea what ones are good, bad, complex, or simple. I'd say the maximum price for one would be $200. Any suggestions, if anyone here actually knows any more than I do?

TV, radio, the movies ... talk about "Southern Hospitality" and things like "Sweet Home Alabama". For just over a week, I experienced this "Southern Hospitality" phenomenon. And, yes, it is VERY true! I can hardly believe my 2007 road trip is over.... The wintry weather mix (mainly ice/snow) that greeted me when I returned Saturday, December 1, was NOT the way to welcome me back home; though, it was nice to see many people at our annual Christmas Open House that evening. As for the trip itself, I met a lot of great people along the way, saw some "old friends", and missed meeting a number of people as well. I had a blast ... and want to go back on the road ASAP! …

Last weekend, I drove my mom to Maryland in her car, a 2005 base model white Cobalt sedan with automatic. She got the spoiler, and she put American Racing rims on it with the factory tires. It's a pleasant looking little sedan, and I was duly impressed by the quiet, comfortable ride and the good gas mileage. After 2 hours behind the wheel, I emerged with no discomfort. The little 2.2L Ecotec pulls nicely. I have gone to Chevy's website and priced out an Imperial Blue 2LT coupe with chrome package, 5 speed manual, Pioneer stereo and leather wrapped wheel/redundant stereo controls. Nicely equipped without going whole hog, it would fit me. I've been feeling a bit …

I've been super busy so I have not had a chance to report on my experience with the curse... On a cold, icy road the other day, going downhill in the freezing rain and slowing down to a stop at a red light the X-Terra in front of me stopped very abruptly. I was about two car length's behind the truck in my Datsun & as I slid to a stop on a sheet of ice I bumped the X-Earth's trailer hitch with my little Maxima's headlight/blinker & cut the top of the matte black bumper cover. I was pissed at myself, first off I was on the clock so I HAD to get to a delivery, and second despite absolutely no damage to her cast iron trailer hitch my Datsun had…

As we sit here, a dedicated group of GM enthusiasts, blissfully waiting for the new Camaro among other great products, the curtain is being drawn on us. These new CAFE requirements are ever closer to reality, and they will kill any chance for auto enthusiasts to get what they want. Why hasn't anyone mentioned this? By ignoring this coming apocalypse, are we hoping it will go away and our lives will not change? This is a huge blow to so many things automotive we hold dear as Americans. By imposing these ridiculous standards on cars AND light trucks, they are forcing the car companies to kill pickup trucks with work capacity... cars with passenger capacity and any kin…

The Cutlass has been up and running since Sunday. But who cares about that? I'm sure something else had you sitting there pulling your hair over what it could be. That vehicle... in my sig... it's a lovely Mazda AZ-Wagon. You probably said to yourself "Hmm, that looks alot like the Scion xB", but it actually predates it, back to 1994. What you see if actually the latest of many facelifts on the 3rd gen. It's based on the lovely Suzuki Wagon R. I know, it must have been killing you wondering what it was.

We're probably going to replace the tires on the TB, and I've been looking through reviews, but it seems everything has about as many good reviews as bad reviews. Anyone have any suggestions? Want good handling in all conditions (obviously), smooth and quiet. It seems the Goodyear Fortera TripleTreds are genuinely liked by most everyone, but they're rather pricey.

Today, after months of letting the breeze outside in the street, my dad finally took it for brakes. The light was on, and the pedal went to the floor. I had been telling him for months to take it in, not good to let it rot. And now, we have to pay $450 because the back brake system is a mess and the front needs new pads. O how right I was and he didn't listen.

With my old Wal-mart special mountain bike creaking and groaning over every bump or root I hit on the trails, I figured it was time to retire the old goat and look for another bike. I set a rough limit of $500 on myself, because if I have to sped more than that on anything it won't be for a bike. Well, I got tired of looking at new bikes in bike shops that had junk components on them, and craigslist and ebay were yielding mostly clunkers. So, I figured, hey, I have wrenches, screwdrivers, and a couple of bike-specific tools, why not just build one from scratch? The end result: The specs: 1995 Giant Yukon frame RockShox front fork 44-33-22 crank 12x32 8 spe…

It’s that time of year again! Here’s the 5th anniversary edition of the list of the best and worst of all things C&G and GM over the past year. Before we all relive these moments, here’s a mention of some of the more significant events that occurred in the outside world: The war in Iraq sadly continued to plod on without any seeming kind of direction. In the U.S. elections, control of the Senate turned on the word “macaca” along with a return to the concept of checks and balances in government. The year ended with the passing of the 38th President and the execution of a ruthless dictator. On this board, the year began with the shocking passing of Chief. GM intr…

I don't know about anyone else, but we have had quite a winter so far. Usually you don't see much in the way of snow or ice around here before Christmas, but so far it has snowed much of the week and we had two days of freezing rain / sleet that left about 2 inches of ice on the ground. It iced again last night and now it has changed over to snow; I had to go out last night and scraping it off my windows was a task since it was just a thick glazing over everything. We used to have really bad winters like this in the first few years of the 90s, then it was mild for the rest of the decade until about 2003 when we've been having monster snowstorms and earlier snow. A cou…

As a 17 year old twelfth grader, I expected better from my school administrators, I expected a better attitude from the admin when I'm being victimized. Just a look at my profile picture will give you all an idea that I didn't have an easy time about school. People are always afraid of what's different. Now I'm the victim of Sexual Harassment. And what was done about it, you may ask? Well, so far, nothing good at all. When I started going to this High School, a special Catholic high school that not only supposedly boasts an agreeable learning environment and a format of self determination, but also a no-tolerance policy on harassment. Well, I don't know if there is a big golfing community in here or not, but I am looking for a new set before summer. My hand me down set of Taylor Mades that my dad gave to me when I started back in the late 90s are showing their age. I love those clubs, but I lost my 8 iron last summer and the face on my 5 iron is almost worn away. I don't golf a ton, so I am kind of shopping on a budget. I want to stick with a well known name brand, and would like to stick to graphite shafts. Other than that I am open for anything. Well, it seems that someone really wants to get into my house. When I got home this afternoon, the other half of the same sliding door that got broken out before (it is still boarded up with half-inch plywood) was broken out. There is a screen there with a slash mark through it, and this time I guess, the screen slowed down the momentum of the blunt object because they were only able to break out the outer pane of a double pane window. I am so pissed. Somebody knew I wasn't home I guess, which makes me think it has to be somebody very local. I always park in the garage, so during the day it is hard to tell if I'm home... unless the person watched me leave this mornin…

Beautiful oddity, a dream I woke up from last night. First scene, I am a passenger in a random vehicle, driving through an urban warehouse district. I look up, and there is an airliner that appears to be taking off from a nearby airport, coming in our direction. It climbs upward but its wings are on backwards, pointing forward. I gasp in wonder for a fleeting moment before it goes out of sight, obscured by the warehouses. It's a beautiful sunny day. Next scene, I am still with the same person, but I never see who it is, I just feel their presence. We are heading in the opposite direction from before because of the position of the sun. Again, it is a clear, sun…

This is turning into a little weekly series. Where's it at this week? Dubois, 20 miles away. Imagine this... Idiot lights flashing, clouds of steam trying to escape from the gaps of the hood and the wheel wells... It's quite a sight. It overheated. Linkity LONDON (AFP) - Troubled soul singer Amy Winehouse kicked off her 17-date tour with a shambolic performance that saw fuming fans booing and marching out, reports said Thursday. The concert at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, was a chance for the 24-year-old to get back to singing and put her woes behind her. Winehouse has had "health issues" -- widely reported to be drug and alcohol abuse -- and her party-loving husband Blake Fielder-Civil is being held on grievous bodily harm and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice charges. But Wednesday's gig at the NIA, which can hold up to 13,000 people, was slammed by angry fans as a "disgrace" after she…

I guess I've never really known much about the Formula Firebird and how differentiated it was from a Trans Am. Someone in my hometown has a '92 Formula Firebird that I believe is supposed to be pretty rare. Could someone give me a quick history lesson on what the focus was for a Formula Firebird vs. a Trans Am (performance, suspension, options, etc)? Maybe like how the IROC was geared toward power while the Z/28 was geared toward handling? I'm assuming they were situated below the Trans Am in price and performance, but what was it that made them so special and some like the '92 so collectible? I tried looking up some info but didn't really find much on them (and did…

As the title says, this is mostly hypothetical... as in, if by some rare streak of luck I am able to afford to purchase a decent vehicle. Basically, I'm looking for suggestions/ideas/opinions. I want something that's reliable, economical, easy to live with, and fun. To start, I want suggestions that hold true. Anyone can make a case in favor of a, say... Sunfire or Blazer... Doesn't mean they're worthy of purchasing. Reputations beyond what a few GM enthusiasts think should be taken into consideration. The same goes for any manufacturer. I don't want any 'blinded by bias' suggestions. Personal experience is another thing. It's probably the most telling and most diverse…

I have one. Well. Sort of. Its my demo-of-choice from the lot, a burgandy 2002 FWD Aztek with 109k on the clock. And boy do I love it. I honest-to-goodness think Pontiac made an error in judgement by settling for a cheeply-rebadged Equniox over going its own direction with a refined, improved Aztek. I say this because as lambasted as it was, the original Aztek had something to Torrent lacks - personality. And before someone makes a crack about personality being something the ugly girls have, I'll remind you the ugliness is truly only skin deep on this thing. One of the hallmarks of the Aztek is that its so ugly, its cool. There is no angle of this beast that is in any…

The simple fact is I've just been swamped at work, occasionally being the only one in the office for a few hours at a time for a variety of reasons. And though it started out as simply helping out by taking photos of cars and posting details of them, the job has quickly matured into a real position as Internet Sales Manager (we only have 25 cars and a staff of 5, but regardless...) as well as handling so much other stuff. Its really a compliment to me that I'm entrusted with so m…

Yesterday, I was telling someone about some of the known details of the next gen Astra and a couple other things, when he asked me if I had some sort of inside ties to GM. All I really do is read on here. Congrats on having so much up do date info that it makes people think I've got special sources. lol

Do you think working an average of 28 hours a week at minimum wage would be enough to be able to pay off a $3-$5k loan with a clean, blank slate of credit? I'm curious about it since I'm serious about wanting to buy another car, a nice(er) one. Having never dealt with loans or such, I'm not sure what to expect.

I came home for lunch today, and checked in here for a few minutes before heading back. On the way back to work I was involved in a traffic accident. My beautiful new truck is wrecked. An access road coming through the back way out of our local ballpark has a gentle arc leading to another, wide-open parking lot. At the very end of that road, about the last 20 feet or so, it turns sharply to the right to meet that lot. There are no stop signs, no lane markings and no speed limit, as it is private property belonging to the ballpark. Quite a few folks use it as a shortcut. Anyway, a guy in a black Cobalt sedan was driving through that rear lot, out of my line of sig…

Yeah, i live in a box, but lately we upgraded cell phones around here. Then, last week i took advantage of an offer to add another one for nothing. Basically its on Sprint and I've got this thing called power vision that allows me to surf, and load up email and maps and all that stuff. I loaded some mp3's on it and am listening to tunes. They are cameras, camcorders, calculators, IM's, wow. I think TV is even possible. And that's not the half of it I am sure. The other day I got lost driving around and the google maps on my phone saved my ass and my lunch hour. Who needs NAV in the car? Now I can check gmail from my phone, anywhere. I can even get limited…

GM should look into this technology. It will be the wave of the future, and GM should get into it now. I been having the urge to learn how to fly. My wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I said I want to learn how to fly a helicopter. Hopefully I will get lessons on just that, Christmas day. http://cbs4.com/local/Jorge.Pinon.energy.2.596732.html First paragraph of the article: Dur. The EV1 was NOT A SATURN, and WAS NOT BUILT BY SATURN. Its only connection to Saturn was that it was leased through their dealers. No Saturn badges, or anything. Why does it seem like no one ever gets this right? It was an awesome car in many ways, but it irks me when people cant get basic facts right. [/pet peeve]

Well I have a confession, when I drive now in the USA, if you own a foreign vehicle that is not badged as GM, I will not let you in my lane if you're trying to get over. Also If you drive a foreign vehicle that is not badged as GM I will not stop to help if you are broken down. Last Friday as I tooled around Spartanburg, SC, I came upon a broken down Tundra on the side of the road, I looked over at the guy, we made eye contact, I felt he wanted me to stop, but I drove on. I stuck to my new rule, no GM badge on your car, no help of any kind from me. I'm torn on this new policy of mine because it goes against my upbringing, I'm interested in what you would do. Would you…

What is your definition of a car enthusiast? What do you think makes someone a car enthusiast? I was just wondering how everyone interprets that.

John K. Teahen Jr. Automotive News November 26, 2007 - 12:01 am ET I've read it in the newspapers; I've heard it on the radio; I've seen it on TV. It's great news, the best in years. But I don't believe it. The headlines say, "Detroit 3 back on track" and "New contract puts Detroit back in the ballgame." Not quite. Not by a long shot. I'm not knocking the new labor contracts. They're excellent, and they certainly will help General Motors, Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC as they claw their way back toward respectability. The contracts cut Detroit's manufacturing, overhead and labor costs. I hope they will help GM, Ford and Chrysler overcome their staggering…

I guess I'm kind of picky when it comes to coffee. Certain Tim Hortons make it right, and others I've actually brought it back to the counter and told them to make another one that's not burnt. I notice that sometimes I'm drinking the same coffee as others, they don't mind and I do. On the other hand I'm no connisseur either, I won't buy Starbucks coffee (which is just overly bitter anyways). The coffee here at my building sucks. I asked my boss one day how the coffee was when he was drinking it, and he said "Hot and brown". I guess those are the only nice things he could find to say. Somehow a description of coffee that would also fit poop kind of bothers me. So... a…

With the official start-of-holiday-shopping day known as "Black Friday" quickly approaching, what is everyone asking for this year? Due to our financial situation, we're concentrating less on adults (including ourselves) and more on making the Christmas holiday for the children in our family a nice one. Anyone hoping to get that one (or two or three or more!) special present? If so, what is it?

My mind has been a little mixed up recently. I've had some very disturbing nightmares. The movie Silent Hill, as much EVERYONE I know hates it, fascinates me because much of the imagery in it is the stuff of my nightmares. That over sized, creepy Pyramid guy & his violent actions are pretty much something my mind would conjure up. Something is up with me, I know what it is I guess, just don't know how to deal with it. Julie and I are doing great, despite the miscarriage. Things are looking up and I've been a happy camper as of late, even on Thanksgiving I was thinking how I should count my blessings. But there's this "thing" looming over m…

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21978302/?GT1=10547 LOS ANGELES - Kevin DuBrow, lead singer of the popular 1980s heavy metal band Quiet Riot, has been found dead from unknown causes at his home in Las Vegas, authorities said on Monday. DuBrow, 52, was found dead at about 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, a spokeswoman for the Clark County Coroner’s Office said. She said an autopsy would be conducted to determine the cause of death. “I can’t even find the words to say,” Quiet Riot bandmate Frankie Banali said on his Web site. “Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend, Kevin DuBrow.” Quiet Riot, which was founded in the mid-1970s, topp…

You know... there are days I think my car doesn't like me and is trying to kill me. We had a bad snowstorm last night and the roads were crap... By the afternoon commute I was driving down the expressway @ 80KPH and all of the ice had melted. There was lots of spray and I set the wipers to "Mist". wouldn't you know it- in the middle of a busy expressway, the wipers go up and freeze in the full upright position ! I try all the wiper settings and all I get are angry motor noises from the wiper motor. Meanwhile my windshield is getting dirtier and dirtier because of the spray. Since there's nowhere for me to really pull over and turn the car off, I have to drive home …

A sweet little old lady came in today for an estimate on her Glacier Blue Buick Century (amazingly, with chrome, late-model Intrigue wheels on it with Buick center caps, hmmm... was that an obscure Century special edition built after Intrigue production ended?) Anyway, she was sitting in the office, shooting the breeze with my manager, telling him the story of how her right front corner got banged up. She was in a local mall parking lot, "when a lady driving a Lincoln Town House hit me!" We all managed to keep it together while she was with us, but when she left, we were rolling. All I could think of was asking her "3 bedroom, 2 and a half baths?" But I held my tongu…

especially when they just back into you... One quick gift at Best Buy..and then I headed to the car... It was a crappy, cold, snowy, windy night. Got to watch an older Ram pickup back up, right into a few cars....One sadly, was mine. Once he realized he smashed a few cars, he took off...right at me! (and a few other people!) We all had to drive out of harm's way....at least everyone was ok..(snow covered though..).. Stupid truck didn't even have a plate on it.... Poor Balt has only been with me for a few days..good news (if you can call it that) is that it just cracked the front facsia (sp) underneath the front pass. headlight.... I might just buy the fa…

Maybe someone can explain this to me. How is a car that isn't suppose to be on sale until early 2008 being sold USED by a private owner in Lexington, Kentucky? Excuse the image quality, they were taken with my wife's 2MP camera phone, didn't have our Kodak with us. Anyone care to guess where this came from?

OK Boys, I'm leaving in an hour or so for the airport, I have an all night flight ahead of me tonight. Take care of yourselves, I will be back in the USA on December 21st. However until then I will be in Switzerland, Iceland and Brazil. I will post some pics of Iceland when I get back, I hear it's beautiful there. I will be on MSN Messenger or whatever flavor of that you use, should you miss me saying Tick-Tock! :AH-HA_wink: I think some special news might be coming your way within a month or so. We'll just have to wait and see. Be good, Santa is watching! der Börger (AKA: PCS)
