Hey guys (and our ladies, too!), I am writing to inform you of an event we have at Kettering University every spring term. This event is our annual Relay for Life walk. For those unfamiliar with Relay for Life, it is a twenty-four hour cancer walk that is done all across the United States throughout the year to raise awareness and charitable donations to benefit cancer patients. All funds raised go to the American Cancer Society to help try to find a cure, and every dollar counts when it involves such a terrible disease. Please visit the Relay for Life organization site for more information: http://www.relayforlife.org/relay/ So, at Kettering, we try to do exactly wha…

It seems the forum software has been getting a little FUBAR here lately. First, my account was mysteriously deleted recently. Second, my PM inbox has been acting up and deleting new messages after I respond to them, and there are no copies of the PMs I send in my sent items folder. Third, the site seems to "stall" at times; meaning it doesn't load after a long period of time then re-loads as soon as I hit refresh, although slowly. And now I've been seeing this little oddity ... Anyone been encountering anything strange on the forums here lately?

Well, well, well, where to begin? I guess the main reason I wanted to post this, is to inform those that PM me though this site, you will no longer get a response from me if you use this site to reach me. Do I hate C&G you may be asking yourself? The answer is no, I just love GM Europe (GME) more. As this post shows, I have not been banned by the staff here at C&G from posting, but then I never did anything to warrant such a ban in the 1st place. GME and myself have simply come to an agreement that my posting here has served it's purpose, and it's time for GME and myself to move on, we have much work to do, as you can well imagine, which is why I got promoted,…

After watching that Drug Addled Amy Winehouse edge out Taylor Swift for best new Artist, which is, I believe, setting a bad example... I saw that Alan Jackson's smooth-flowing song, "A Woman's Love", got edged out by Keith Urban's "Stupid Boy" for best Male Country Performance- Anyone who's heard both songs would surely agree that Alan was robbed.... Did anyone else watch this year or happen to want to weigh in as well?

Sounds like he's trying to make a comeback after, what, 20 years? Would you listen to his new stuff? I definitely would. He's got a new one out with Akon that I really like. You can tell the hint of MJ rhythm in it and it works out really good. I love MJ's old stuff, too, so I'd definitely be a fan...

Your PM inbox is full. Delete some $h! so I can send you a nasty PM. Anyways, I found this listing on ebay and I really think I'm going to go for it. I just need to find someone with an ebay account to buy it for me. How does the price compare to the quote you got, DF? I forget how much you said it was. Clicky. It'll be nice to finally get the Millenia running, whether I decide to sell it or drive it (course, it'll still need tires and brakes). Either way, this is step towards getting out of the Cutlass that I really need to take. After that, the Cutlass's fate will be decided on.

I found this Park Avenue Ultra on ebay. Clicky. This is the first I've seen of one outfitted like this. According the ad... "This Buick was a level 3 engineer's car at Buick. The custom additions are all from Buick. That includes 2 way auto sunroof, Custom fiberglass skirts all the way around the car, Two tone leather seats, two tone interior, custom rear sport seats with lumber support. Full console with Buick emblem embedded in it. Buick emblem on hood is embedded in hood." I'm quite curious about it. Something like this rarely gets past me, but this one did until now. Does anyone know anything about it?

Why is asking for and/or accepting the help of others so seemingly taboo? I'm exhausted and so tired I can't even sleep, which is not good, since I have to be at work Thursday and Friday. But, trying to do my best to help my parents at home after their surgeries (Mom donated a kidney to Dad), while doing what I need to do ... and trying to make my sister understand that I AM helping Dad and Mom ... is starting to grate on my nerves. I love helping Dad and Mom, especially after the sacrifices they have made, but when they won't LET me help them as my sister insists I need to ... it frustrates me. Thus the somewhat re-worded, semi-rhetorical query I posed to start thi…

I sooo want this.... 2006 XLR with 1,639 miles I want to just drive up to the dealer and trade my Buick in right now... It's odd. I don't usually have a desire for RWD, two-doors, or convertibles... but I've always wanted an XLR... all the way back to the EVOQ concept. They're "becoming" reasonable now. The price on this one is great IMO.

... a Volvo! The Envoy is "technically" the wife's leased vehicle, but it really was my choice to get it over a too-high monthly lease payment on a GM minivan back in 2005. She liked it for the first year, but she's not really a "truck" person so the last year & a half she's driven the car more. With the lease up in August, we've decided to go back to "his & her" cars. We've been sharing the cars the last few years due to her mileage/commute to work (32 miles one way) and the need to keep leases in the 15k/year range. But I'm tired of fighting over seat & mirror changes (the Envoy does have memory settings that have helped), and she's tired of me picking …

Yesterday I put the Sierra on Rt 95 S and headed to the Baltimore Convention Center to check out the Motor Trend-sponsored Auto Show. The show opened at 10, I got there around 11:30, so the crowd was still fairly thin. First display I came upon was Chevrolet, with the glorious Vettes out front, at the entry point. Off to the side was the 2009 Aveo5 LT in silver, which, I have to say looked better than all the photos suggest. Without seeing it side by side with the current car, the new front does not look too big as I'd feared, that and the touched-up tail do a good job of modernizing the little guy. The sunroof, alloys and two-tone leatherette interior add to the app…

With all the talk about the big cars, rwd, and other stuff-I thought it was time for a bit of a change. As much as I would like a G8 or Camaro and I do love RWD (old school and now)-it is unlikely that I will going to be able to afford one for a while... What is more likely is that I'll be driving a compact...a car that offers good gas milage, and a car that I can afford. And I would love to have one of the cars on my wish list.... I could see an Astra or Vibe in the future...... And am I the only one thinking small? Ocn is shopping between an Astra or a HHR ( SS, LT) Loves his truck-but would like to save some money too..... The only byproduct of Hydrogen fuel cell engines is water vapor right? Well with all the recent advances in hydrogen production, wouldnt it make sense to move towards Hydrogen rather than E85 or BioDiesel... The only reason i say this is cause... 1) If everyone in large cities used hydrogen fuel cell engines, The water vapor produced from the cars and the relative lack of traditional emissions would create a sort of counter greenhouse effect. The increased water vapor in the area would reflect more light back into space, cooling the local area and of course providing more rainfall... instead of trapping in heat and causing crappy air quality. Now in places like the sout…

We were doing work for a client and got into a discussion about cars. Guy went into a rant about the US auto industry and how screwed up American cars are. He said... "...the problem is we haven't punished Detroit enough. We ought to ban Chevy, Ford and Dodge from Nascar and put Honda in instead, because obviously Honda and Toytoa are the only two groups of people who can build a decent car." This is the rant thread. Rant away about this gent's stupidity if you wish. Chris

Could you please send out a prayer to help my grandfather up to God's home? I would really appreciate it. He's one of the greatest, wisest men I've ever met, and he's everything a grandpa should be. He worked a really hard life since the time he was 16 on the railroad tracks, then the military, then multiple other jobs (including Packard and Chrysler, where he retired after about 25 years). About 8 years ago he had a heart attack and since then has been fairly weak, and just in the last two years he's been having many more heart problems. These last few months he's been incredibly fragile (but still mentally functional), and this last week he's been hallucinating and ju…

An ungodly number of states(22 maybe?) are holding primaries/caucuses today. Go vote. Yes, its just a primary, and yes all the candidates have flaws, but if you dont vote now you're not allowed to bitch about the candidates on the ballot in November. My (rather safe) predictions: Republicans: Romney has a strong showing in MA and UT, McCain squeaks by him in the rest of the states. Ron Paul comes in a pretty respectable third, drops out of the Republican race, waits a bit, then announces he is running as a third party candidate (he ran as a Libertarian in '88) and becomes the first semi-viable third party candidate since Perot in '92. Democrats: More of the sam…

Yeah-Things are getting interesting around here... Suddenly the laughable version of Detroit in Robocop aren't so funny anymore.... Things I've seen today: 1. A hit and run in a local parking lot....and just pushed that car right into another car and kept going (I can feel for the girls-It happened to the Cobalt a few weeks ago).... I got the plate though. 3. A Domestic dispute in which my Cobalt was KICKED several times...And I got to watch the end of it too... …

This time, in the form of a 50 year old woman driving a Volvo. Luckily, it wasn't too serious. I was making a right turn out of a Rite Aid parking lot onto a main road. The Volvo was in front of me attempting to do the same. She pulled out and saw a car coming, changed her mind, and shifted into reverse. She had no idea I was behind her, and slammed into me. The damage isn't too bad. The driver's side of my front bumper took the hit. The lower lip is disconnected from the bumper, there are a few long horizontal cracks in the bumper itself, and it'll all need to be repainted. If she were driving an SUV it would have been much worse, as my hood likely would'v…

We had the Buick and HHR for sale, and to my suprise the Buick sold first. It is now with an "older" couple who lost their 1993 Buick PA to a flood. I've decided to keep the HHR. It should make a decent ski rig with some Blizzaks (we'll see). The cost of sending it down the road for an AWD or 4wd vehicle just wasn't worth it. Especially at todays gas prices.

Today I went to the dealership where I bought my '03 ION Quad Coupe to check out an Astra. The same lady who sold me that car went along for the ride, in a red 3-door manual with no options, priced at $18,400 or so. To sell for that price across town from other more-or-less Delta-based GM small cars, the Astra had to be loaded with "kit", as they say on The Continent, and it is. All of GM's latest safety equipment, including head curtains and Stabilitrak come on this car. Power equipment including central locking, mirrors and dual express-down windows are there as well. Handsome, 17" rims look good on the car, along with foglamps. This car has a lot of standard equ…

Wednesday I was involved in a pretty serious MVA. I won't go into details but the Av is probably totalled judging by what my son says it looks like. I have not seen the damage because I was unconscious when the paramedics pulled me out of the truck. I just got out of the hospital today with cuts to my face, head, arm, and left leg, bruises, abrasions from the air bags, and broken ribs. My son is here taking care of me while I am recovering. I just figured I would let everyone know since that seems to be part of the culture around here.

Nissan Motor,Japan's third-biggest automaker,is preparing to produce fuel effcient small vehicles for Chrysler, taking a different route to enhance its presence in the American market despite concern about a slowdown. The two auto firms are in the final stages of negotiation on a deal for Nissan to supply Chrysler with small cars models with an engine displacement of around 1.8 liters,Japanese broadcaster NHK reported on Thursday. The pact is expected to boost Nissan's sales in the U.S market, and to help Chrysler make a turnaround from its recent weakness, attributed in part to an overdependence on light truck sales, the report said.A Nissan spokeswoman confirmed the …

Question for C&Gers. How do you personally define being a man? Just read an interesting book about boys which had as a Thesis that boys today lack positive male role models and have trouble defining what it means to be a man. The book got me thinking. So: How do you define being a man? To our younger members-do you find a lack of older men that you look up to? Do you agree or disagree with the idea that there are few positive male role models? Do you think todays definition of manhood is different than your fathers? To our gay members-a serious question-how do young gay teens/young gay adults adjust to manhood? Do you think manhood is defined differentl…

full story here Frank Oresnik is on the verge of making history driving his old standby — the pickup truck he says is about to pass the 1 million mile mark. Oresnik took the 1991 Chevrolet Silverado to the Oil Ex-Change Quick Lube in Medford on Thursday for what he expects will be its last oil change and tuneup before hitting the magic number. He said the truck is 1,200 miles from a million, and once he hits the mark he will retire the vehicle. "I feel almost like the longtime NFL player as he goes into his last training camp knowing this is the end," Oresnik said. He credits proper maintenance and a good measure of luck for allowing the truck to rack up so many…

I inspect the latch and jiggle it a bit, figuring it might not have released completely. Try again. *clunk* Well, isn't that that special. Play with it some more and try again. *clunk* Mind you, it's about 15 degrees out and I have to be at work in 10 minutes. My patience is being tested. I grab a sc…

Here's what I've observed and found through some brief Internet searching: Lightning McQueen: modified Ford GT40 Cruisin McQueen: repainted in the colors of the Corvette from the TV seires "Route 66" Ramone: 1959 Chevrolet Impala Luigi: 1959 Fiat 500 Guido: ISO Isetta Doc Hudson: 1951 Hudson Hornet Sheriff: 1949 Mercury Fillmore: '60s VW Microbus Sarge: 1945 Ford GPW or a Willy…

Here's a blast from my past. When I got my first computer, I only had MS Paint to play around with and I found the drawings that I did pixel by pixel. Not too bad with what I had to work with. I'm guessing this was 1993/94.

So you open the newspaper in the morning and you see that there's been a horrible plane crash. At first this saddens you, then you see the list of names for who was involved. A sick satisfaction fills you as you read the list. So, who's on that list for you? Call me a sick bastard but I know you've thought about something like this. My planeful: Mike Harris (former Ontario leader who ruined our school system) Ann Coulter Mariah Carey Kim Il Jong Osama Let's keep this civil please.

Eliminating exotics like the Ferrari Enzo and our favorite muscle cars (Camaro, Firebird, Challenger, Vette, Viper, GTO, et al) as well as trucks and SUV's (Cyclone, Wrangler 4 door etc.) what cars of the last ten or 15 years do you consider creative and unique? My list Miata (I like the first two generations better than the current gen, but the current gen is still a fine car) CTS (Current and previous generation) RX-8 (Rotary power) Audi TT (the first gen had better styling I thought) Solstice Sky Boxter perhaps? (mid-motor) Malibu Maxx (streched family sedan, a good idea I thought) Volvo C-30 (cool rebirth of a neo sports car from Volvo, really kind…

Tomorrow I get to pick my birthday present...a brand spanking new Gateway labtop.. Can't wait! Not looking foward to Vista though.... Usually I tell the wife not to get me stuff for my birthday, but this year she dragged my butt to the store (almost literally ) I needed one of these things anyway, since I was planning to head back to school soon. I was planning to borrow one, but this works out better... Looks cool too...I'm not even sure what I want to do with it first....

In the 60's and 70's my parents collected Beetles like they were going out of style. My dad and a friend of his could yank an engine, tear it down, reassemble and throw it back in the car in no time. Eventually having kids caught up and my dad hasn't owned one in years. Cut to 2007. I spent insane amounts of time looking for a "kayak car" that I would be cheap, reliable and I could use for a handful of mile per year at least, ideally it would be reliable enough to let me unload my Fusion. After having a few things fall through (still pissed about the '87 Caprice wagon" I put my search off until spring 2008. Cut to yesterday. During a casual conversation, I learn …

Okay, so I thought I was going insane before... but now I've done it: I want a 3/4 foreign car. Used, of course. I hate the Bronco. It gets the worst gas mileage I could ever have a nightmare and dream of, it runs like $h!, doesn't want to crank over in the cold (and I'm not buying a new battery), and has other issues too. So, come spring, I'm going to fix it up as much and as quick as I can and put it on the block for sale. Hopefully I'll make a little cash off of it and save a little for my NEXT winter car... I'm thinking about a DSM. That's right, I said it. A '95-99 Eclipse GS-T or GSX with a 5 speed. Something that will get better gas mileage (es…

As I sit typing this, snow blows and falls outside... The temperature? -46 Degrees. That's right, skin will FREEZE within four minutes. But that's by far not the bad news in this case... It's supposed to stay like this until Friday. Should I burn some Toyotas to keep warm? I can't be the only one bearing the brunt of winter- What's the weather like where you are?

Lets begin this story with.. Shitchyea! C&G IS BACK, BABY!!!!!! Okay. Anyway... I've always told EVERYBODY since like 7th grade that I just won't go out with a girl that's older than me. Why? I have no idea, I just am a fan of the husband being older/taller and the wife being the opposite.. I think that'd be a perfect couple.. Well I found out a few months ago that my sister has a new horseriding instructor, Allie, who is just graduating school last year (2004-05). They all say that I should meet her and stuff, but I could care less.. Remember? I don't date older chicks! Well I then find out that she's now wor…

I come home today to find this in my driveway: Yeah...not the Amber Bronze '07 Impala LS my mom took to work this morning. It's a rental while the Venture is in the shop getting some collision damage repaired. The original plan was for mom to borrow my grandad's car (the Impala) while the van was getting worked on, but mom said the smoke smell in the car (grandad's a heavy smoker) was bothering her, so she called the at-fault driver's insurance to see if a rental would be covered. Begrudgingly, mom was told she would be reimbursed, and she promptly called the local Enterprise to request a minivan. They were out of minivans, so she upgraded to an SUV. So, what we've g…

Flybrian's Random Car Showcase Presents... The 1969 Buick Century Cruiser Through boredom and...well, just boredom, I bring you the fourth in likely many little 'diaries' of a completely random car. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Looking back, the most engaging aspect of Detroit's golden age was not horsepower, luxury, or even styling. It was the fanciful imagination that guided designers and dreamers in producing their concept cars. The term of the day, however, was dream car and appropriately so. This was a time was technology flowed from the labs into our lives with such ease and successive rapidity that the future seemed but a few short years away. And since our wildest d…

I dislike stereotypes, but the Houston gay boys' car choices have inspired the topic. Around Houston, BMW 3 Series and 5 Series are associated with the epicenter of car gayness... if there is such a thing. Five to ten years ago, it was Mercedes. Among our many BMW-loving friends, my partner and I are considered out-of-touch and "a little rough around the edges"" with a Subaru and a GMC in our garage.

cbc ADRIAN, Mich. - A Michigan man was charged with drunken driving after drinking two bottles of wine, cutting through a snowstorm on his lawn mower and riding down the centre of the street to reach a liquor store, authorities said. Police found Frank Kozumplik, 49, homeward bound on a John Deere tractor Saturday night, toting four bottles of wine in a paper bag, officials said. He told officers his wife had taken their car to work and the mower was the only way he could reach the store, three kilometres from home. His blood alcohol level was 2½ times Michigan's legal driving limit of 0.08 per cent, police told WLEN-FM. They arrested him and confiscated the mower…

Recent Lou Dobbs comment on the trade deficit Funny how he leaves cars out of his article. Too many Americans would be offended to know that their beloved toyota isn't so American after all. I'm probably about to make two stupid moves before going into college, one of them being me buying a brand-new twenty-one thousand dollar Camaro. Well, chances are I'm going to make another stupid move on top of that. Meet the two cars that qualify for my second mistake. 1967 Chevrolet Camaro, 327 V8: 1967 Pontiac Firebird, 350 V8: The cost of both cars are $4,500. Both cars are roughly in the same shape: mild amounts of rust, the floorboards rotting away to nothing (as you can see in the second-to-last pics in both sets), but I know the Camaro's 327 runs pretty well and could make for a better daily driver during restoratio…

Toronto Star article Is "Canadian" the new black? Perhaps – that is if you're a racist speaking in code. Recent revelations that the term "Canadian" is being used to replace racist names for black people have got a Texas assistant district attorney into trouble and have left others wondering what exactly it means to be labelled a Canadian in the American south. Long derogated as weak-kneed liberals with lax laws and funny monopoly money, Canadians have carried a negative connotation in certain regions of America – but not as a replacement for the N-word. Earlier this week a columnist with the Houston Chronicle uncovered an email from Harris County assistant distri…

I just wanted to tell you all, I think the new layout sucks. They made everything harder to find IMO and it's a little "overdone" IMO. I much prefer the old layout where you have a the list of manufacturers and then each model over this new check off the models you want, or click for more choices and all these new pop up windows to branch off. Meh. My rant is done.

It’s time for the sixth annual end-of-year list of the best and worst of C&G, General Motors, and all things automotive. But before beginning, a quick recap of what else went on in the world the past year: It was the year of wide stance, thanks to Senator Larry Craig, and Barry Bonds breaking Hank Aaron’s 755 homerun record and then getting indicted for perjury and obstruction of justice regarding steroid use. It was the year of the mortgage meltdown and of Chinese toys getting recalled for lead paint. There was a horrific mass-killing at Virginia Tech and nonstop Presidential campaigning—will it ever end, and are these the best candidates the country can offer? T…

...I live thousands of miles away from Las Vegas. I've been here since yesterday morning, and since then I've: 1. developed a serious gambling addiction. 2. been awake. 3. seen a dangerous amount of Chrysler Sebrings. 4. learned that Nevada never got the memo that mullets haven't been cool since 1984. Talk about unhealthy. I'm jetlagged, hungover, down a ridiculous amount of money, and loving every second of it.

Posted Jan 27th 2008 11:27AM by Jonathon Ramsey via Autoblog Wired magazine got in the queue for some face time with Bob Lutz at the Detroit Auto Show, and came back with a quote that's raised a few brows. When asked what the target market for the car would be, Lutz said "I don't know. You'd like to have it at about $30,000 for the customer, but what I'm hearing from the team is we're not going to get there.... f it costs closer to 40 than 30, well, that's too bad." The issue is the timeline. His engineering team said that if they had more time they could cost-optimize the car, but Lutz doesn't want to wait for that. As for the recent go-round about when the Volt w…

I just picked up this latest issue. Of great interest (to me at least) is a nice big article on the genesis and styling evolution of the 1977 GM fullsizers. This first round of modern GM downsizing was a spectacular success, followed in 1978 by another successful round when the A- and A-Special cars were made smaller. In 1979, the E-body cars were done, another success, imo. After that, things went downhill for GM, imo, as continued downsizing and the wholesale switch to FWD platforms reached a ridiculous fever pitch that GM has never fully recovered from until very recently. My hopes for GM's future have been high for the last few years, but are starting another dow…

I was disappointed (though not surprised) when I read a post by Josh Oliver on camaroz28.com which, referring to C&G, stated, "That website is garbage." Here is a direct link to the topic; scroll down to Josh's post, which is #22. I realize that there's been "bad blood" between Josh and C&G for a long time, but the reason I'm now pointing out his post is that I can't seem to view his own website, thegmsource.com. Is it still active? Lately, Josh has started several topics on camaroz28.com, so perhaps that has become his new outlet.
