Just after Christmas Tammy started telling me that she was concerned about me driving the Vette with the roads getting icy. Since it was winter break, she wasn't using our truck (she works for a school district) so I was driving it to work and back. But, with school starting up again she didn't want me in the Vette on our roads. Too many, nutcases who can't drive is what she SAID she was concerned about. All of our cars were RWD and with 3 of them being show cars and one of them having an engine being rebuilt for drag racing, they were out. I leave for work at 11PM and come home at either 8 or 9 AM so I get 2 chances for icy roads. That left the Vette, our truck, and …

Just got a billion times better. There's a girl I've been trying to date for two solid years now. Solid. We dated off and on a couple times and finally a few months ago she told me she just wanted to be friends, and I was fine with that because I honestly want whatever makes her happy. Well tonight she told me she wants to date and basically she's sorry for what happened before. You can't imagine the craze in my head right now.

My idea of Good may be different than your idea of good. the US ideal of "good" is likely different than that of a communist state. So what makes good, good? who is to say that either of us are right? maybe we are both right, but then if we are both right then there is no "right" answer meaning we can never improve society because ethics is relative. whats your ideas? ::edit:: for the purposes of this thread don't list anything from the Bible of "proof" of good, feel free to argue the same points as those from the bible, but you will need to come up with another way to argue them. citing the bible just tends to devolve into some flaming thread.

So it's about 4:45 this afternoon. I have work at 5 but we need to pick the Prizm up from the shop, we finally had the front tires replaced and front end alignment done. We turn off onto the main road (110). She's driving the Intrepid. We come to the left turn we need to take to get to the shop. This road, despite being fairly heavily used, is not particularly wide. There's a school bus at the end of the road wanted to turn right, and there's not enough room for us to get past, so she has her turn signal on and waits for someone to let us all go. After a minute someone flashes us to so that the bus can turn and we can go. As this is about to happen 2 cars from behind us g…

I have a friend who had surgery on his shoulder recently. He won't be able to work for 8 weeks while he recuperates. This week, he's supposed to do as little as possible, so I got an idear to get him some reading material to help him pass the time. He's pretty heavy into sport compact cars. Real hot ones, not 25hp Type-R sticker hot, but turbo AWD hot. We have a little back-and-forth at times between the Corvette and the sport compacts. Anyway, I stopped at the VW dealership seeking a brochure on the R32, telling the attendant my story of a friend with nothing to do but recuperate. They were very nice, but told me no brochure was available for the R32. They gave…

This is a short film that showed in 1959.. I heard it on the radio this morning and it's just absolutely hilarious how ridiculous their views were back then on homosexuality. This isn't being posted to offend anybody, but rather to look at a completely different culture from 50 years ago and how they viewed this "sickness." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fi0HbrhM2hg&NR=1

This car is killing me.... This is why you should never help family out (by buying one of the cars)... I took it to the dealership and found some stuff out: - My slow to shift trans (only when cold) is common on the year of my Balt for some reason (2006) - That even though the brakes were strange (pedal), they were fine. Part that surprised the heck out of me: all FOUR steelies are bent- two pretty good. Now, the ride issue it has I thought was due to the fact that it is due for tires, but I wasn't expecting that....how does that happen, anyways? I didn't realize that there was that many potholes around here... Now I expected a few issues...but wow, this is…

One option I am pondering for when my 500 lease is up this fall is to find a dirt cheap used ford freestar to drive for 2 years or so. generally, i like my vehicles to have a full center console with armrest. I do not like the narrow fold down armrests off the seats that vans typically have. the interior of many ford products has the same kind of look and plastics. i was debating if a guy could do a hack job on say, a center console from a junked 500 or say migrate the rear console of a freestyle or expedition or something into working between the front seats of the freestar? obviously developing a solid mounting system and trying to determine the proper height …

My Senior Studio project this semester is to design a car that takes form an function to a new level in a midsize sedan shape that isn't boring. Kinda vague I know, but to elaborate a bit, I was told by the instructor I could do this, so long as I made it "interesting" to the non-car artsy staff who will be judging the project. So my concept is to use famous figures of the past and create innovations that they would find useful in a car if they existed, but more importantly would be useful today. Anyway, the midterm review is coming up, and though I have a lot done, I still need a company name and a car name. It's a 4-door rear-drive hatch (think Mazda6 hatch), RWD with…

I Hope that this is appropriate to post. SO i was browsing through Volvo's website lookin at that cool new C30... well i decided to look at the S40... the 2.4L I5 NA engine that it has in it makes the EXACT SAME power as my nearly old 2.4L I5 NA engine. Now THATS PROGRESS! 10 years later its the same exact engine. The only difference is that the S40 gets a bit better mileage than my car, and im assuming thats because the S40 is smaller/lighter and has a 5spd hooked up to it instead of my 4spd.

Apparently this "never made it out of committee", but here's what was proposed: >>There is a bill that the Washington State Legislature is trying to pass in Olympia that, if successful, will directly add huge costs to our vehicle license fees. Hopefully the ones who hit the ditch as a result learned a leason, but I doubt it. In downtown Des Moines last night, I was almost hit by three different vehicles. I'm going to give Des Moines the benefit of the doubt there since it was probably the alcohol is everyone's system down there that was doing the driving, but it didn't help to sway me to the side of the Iowans. Well, I finally purchased a project car after wanting one for at least 13 years. Here were my prerequisites: RWD, Manual, T-Tops or Convertible, Sporty, Cheap. I looked at a few cars, and was willing to make sacrifices if needed to. I looked at F-Bodies, G-Bodies, BMW 633's, Volvo 244's, and a few others that I decided against. Well, I'm going to play a game, who can guess the car? It met all of the above requirements. If y'all don't guess it quickly I will start to give hints. And technically I haven't bought it yet as it is still in another city.

article Eating plant-based meals conserves natural resources and slows global warming Looking for small ways to make a big difference for the environment? Why not start by making yourself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? As members of the PB&J Campaign (no, I’m not kidding) like to say, “You don’t have to change your whole diet to change the world. Just start with lunch.” Eating a plant-based lunch (such as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a bean burrito, vegetarian chili, or a hearty salad) instead of an animal-based lunch (such as a hamburger, a tuna or grilled cheese sandwich, fish and chips, or chicken nuggets) will save water, preserve land and sl…

And, for good measure, a "winter sport" quote from the 1980 US Olympic Hockey Team win in Lake Placid: So ... while the soon-to-be-here spring reminds me that I haven't completed much of what I wanted to this winter (anyone else in the same boat?) ... who el…

On my way into Brookville each day, I pass this ever multiplying group of "Old Navy" Chevy pick-ups. It started with one. On to two. Then three... and four, five, six, seven, eight... There are now over a dozen of these things sitting there. More and more keep popping up. I have no idea why or how, either.

The most wonderful time of the year. Been sick since Friday night with a fever, stuffy/runny nose, and a horrible cough. And I have to take care of my new husky on top of all of that. Anyone else under the weather?

...that might surprise others. As a kid, I remember feeling that interest in music was a "one genre only" type of thing because so many people I knew were either anti-rock or anti-country ... and didn't really have much of a "crossover" experience. But, in the last few years or so, more and more people tend to have an eclectic taste in music, myself included. I can't stand to leave the radio station on one station all the time; too much music is out there (old and new) that I like and want to be hearing.... This is because my musical interests have grown ten fold (or so it seems) over the last few years, with "exposure" to all types of music, more than just country …

Hey all. As some of you know I had an 06 malibu SS that I was planning on trading in on a G8 GT when they came to market. Well due to the fact that I was a complete dumb ass those plans had to be flushed down the drain as I got a DUI last december. long story short with that is that I was at an office party and had been drinking pretty steadily for a few hours. Normally If I have more than two beers I don't even consider driving as I've seen first hand how a DUI/DWI can affect a persons life. Unfortunatley I was a bit under the weather and I was also homesick as I hadn;t visited my family in a few months. I was supposed to go up there that night and I felt a very …

I had lunch today at a local Vietnamese place, it was my second visit ever, and my only exposure to Vietnamese food. They have, imo, very odd tastes in flavor mixing. They use mint in a lot of stuff, and peanut. Today I had crab and shrimp in a soup that really tasted weird, and *gag*, I tried a beverage called "pickled lime drink"... it was nasty. Tasted a bit like rotten limes that have lost their flavor. The only lime taste was as an aftertaste, and it was weak. I guess it's my problem, however, because the place had a healthy crowd of Vietnamese customers... a good sign for an ethnic restaurant, imo. Last week my meal there was better, so if I go back, I will h…

So yesterday Sixty8 and I took his Banana boat on a trip to the toy store...er...junkyard. He was in search of parts for it and I was in search of a headlight for the T&C...plus any other goodies that caught my eye for one of the other cars. We spend from 11 until 1 or so there, he had better luck than I though. They didn't have a single first gen Caravan. Although We did see a few interesting things there. There was a triple burgundy Cadillac 1984 Fleetwood Brougham (I think that's what it was) that was in sitting amidst the rows of other Caddies and Buicks stacked on top of each other with nothing on it (yet) The vinyl top was gone and so was the grill but the rest …

...but wonder if you are the only one.... A discussion about NBC's "Friday Night Lights" (Fridays, 8p central) set my mind to wonder about what other shows are on TV (or WERE on TV this season) that you watch, but wonder if you are the only one.... "Friday Night Lights" is definitely one of those for me. With Connie Britton (from ABC's "Spin City") and Kyle Chandler (from CBS' "Early Edition") and an amazing cast ... it is one of my favorites each week. And, while it is critically acclaimed, it doesn't have much of a fan base, claims NBC. Others for me include... ABC's "Pushing Daisies" (Wednesdays, 7p central) ABC's "Samantha Who?" (I think this was originall…

Talk about ground clearance!! That thing sat lower than my Lumina. I could not stop laughing my ass off when I was behind this, on a two lane road. Then the dude cut me when the road became 4 lane.

Interesting thing today..... I was talking to a guy while standing in line at a Mcdonalds (nice long line). I noticed that he had a Silverado jacket on, so we talked cars.... Toward the end, he tells me he detailed his truck-even waxed the underbody.... Waxed the underbody? I might be able to see that if it is a serious off road truck, but it wasn't. I know I wash the underbody....but does anyone actually wax the bottom of their car?

Exciting stuff... electric is becoming reality. "With its long-awaited Roadster now heading into production, Tesla is lifting its gaze to the horizon, which may not be all that distant. In a recent interview with CNET, Tesla co-founder Elon Musk revealed that the company will have the design for the anticipated Whitestar electric sedan finalized within this year's second quarter, and have a functional prototype ready before the end of the year. Musk also confirmed that the electric sedan, whose name could very well change (probably to something that sounds less like a Ford minivan) before it hits the market, will be priced in the $50-60k range, and be produced – likel…

The other day I wrote an estimate for a guy with an '02 Accord V6. He was eager to schedule the repairs so he could go and look into trading in his car... for a new Malibu. My ears perked up and I gave him a pep talk. Here's to continued momentum and good word-of-mouth for the new Malibu.

a friend called today and we were BSing cars and he mentioned how some neighbors gave in to the toyota tide. normally, he said, they buy a lightly used domestic, on payments and keep it a few and trade it. now, this time, they were enticed by toyota nation and a 179/mo lease on the camry. basic 4 cylinder automatic. who knows what the down payment was, and its very few miles....but i wonder how much of this cheap lease dumping is keeping toyota's numbers up. that and fleets. and then the cars hit auction after a couple years. in any case, toyota must be able to prop up those lease deals with good residuals that are no doubt a factor of their reputation. why buy a …
