My granddad has had stage 4 cancer in his lungs and lymph nodes. This morning, hospice was to come and begin taking care of him. His wife told him that hospice was on their way. He immediately grabbed his 357 Magnum, went into the backyard behind his shed and shot himself in the head. He died instantly. He was 89. I will be away for a few days taking care of business. I just wanted to let everyone know what is going on.

Those that have been around a while will remember everything I did to try and kill Roach I, non of which actually killed the cars (Roach I had over 390,000 miles on original engine & trans). I want Roach III to go away and the only way it will is if it has a major mechanical breakdown. Does anybody have ideas on what I can do to cause this to happen without my wife knowing? For the record, I've tried to the following to one or all three Roaches and NONE of them even hesitated to keep running. 1. Jumped off the ground and landed extra hard on frame 2. Put in reverse at full highway speed 3. Used one gallon of water for 10 gallons of gas 4. Pushed down high…

My friend is looking to replace his '99 Monte Carlo with something newer since he is graduated and has a full-time job. He mentioned that he's looking for something with four doors, compact to midsize, 2-3 years old (or new if he can afford it), and fairly fuel efficient. He said he has looked at the Focus, Sentra, Mazda 3, and some others. I mentioned the Fusion, Malibu, G6, Cobalt, Astra, and Aura. He's never really liked Dodge so I didn't mention the Caliber or Avenger. He said he's not interested in Toyota or Honda offerings...he doesn't like the look of the new Toyotas and same with the Honda Civic. I think Impala, Five Hundred/Taurus, etc. are bigger than what…

Hi Kids, I'm trying to hone in my photoshop skills with various different effects. I've been running across a bunch of various logos with unique special effects (like gloss, textures, etc) and essentially recreating/modifying them. I decided I wanted to try my hand at creating a metallic look (like those used on Automotive badges) and two hours later, I finished my modified version of the Saturn logo (I decided I wanted to see what it would look like as a circle). There are a few physical design errors (like the angle of the "rings"), but what I need to see is if it looks metallic to someone who hasn't been working on it. Thanks a bunch! -JC :-)

So I was playing basketball back in 2003, went up to the hoop, got hit, came down on my hand with my arm outstretched. Ouch. Urgent care doc diagnosed a minor rotator cuff tear, told me to rest it and take enough ibuprofin to keep me from feeling my thoughts. Didn't help, my doc diagnosed the same thing. Finally, after having some problems with it the last few weeks, I had it looked at again. Torn labrum (not torn labia as I inadvertently told my boss). Surgery is an option, dealing with it is also an option. Didn't even get any drugs. Stupid doctors.

Sometimes I don't feel right talking general automotive discussion in The Lounge. Does it go in the kinda general part of The Other Guys? Is the general car discussion intended to be here? Or is it likely we should start a new sub-forum for general car discussion (topics that aren't specific to one brand or otherwise don't fit other forums, but don't fit the tone of the Lounge)? To me The Lounge seems more for social topics than anything automotive. Mods, Admins, other regular posters, what say you?

one shortcoming ive always disliked about the Nova is the lack of a third pedal.... i REALLY would love to row my own gears, ive been considering a Manual conversion. Ive considered 4 and 5 speeds, but i think go Big or go Home... T56 all the way! Right now i got a TH350, for those who dont know trannys, its a 3 speed auto, not the greatest for gas mileage, but its decently strong but mine is on its way out. its starting to slip pretty bad in first, so here are my options. If i stick with an Auto, im not keeping a 3 speed. im looking at a 200 4-R out of a G Body for the Overdrive, as its a very simple swap. I would have it built to handle alot more power then im putttin…

clicky Never thought I'd entertain reentering the world of truck ownership again (much less go through with it), but this truck really does something for me. The color helps a lot, and the short, squat look of the regular cab shortbed means it shouldn't be too much of a bear to live with. With the 4.8L it should get decent mileage.

Hey-my friend-before you get that new car... I saw a Caprice that looks a lot like yours for sale today! It's on the corner of Middlebelt and Joy Rd in Livonia in front of an auto shop.... I didn't see the price, but it might be worth looking at....from what I saw (there was quite a bit of traffic), but it looked to be in good shape..... check it out! Hello All, We'll my coworker Chris has been all about Toyota, He bought a Prius and then when the Highlander came out in Hybrid form, he bought it. Now Chris while over all happy with his auto's was a bit disappointed in the milage out of his Highlander, he actually figured it would be just like his Prius. But unlike me and my Suburban, he has allways taunted me as a destroyer of the enviornment here in Seattle and how much better he was for having his hybrids. Now Electrical hell is starting to haunt him. His Highlander has almost 20K miles on it and it seems to always be going into the shop for little repairs. But the big story is what you all want to hear. H…

Since Im in full car search mode, I found this pretty amusing. An Ontario (Canada) man is running a contest to win his car. Basically, he wants a $50 dollar checque, and a written entry not to exceed 100 words on the theme of “I/We want to win this Saab because..”. After 100 entries, a winner will be picked, and get the car. Easy $5000 bucks for the guy, possibly a $50 dollar SAAB for you. http://www.bmts.com/~warren/ http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-c...QQAdIdZ45525269 Crazy, eh?

Didn't want to steal GMPartsGirl's thread so I figured I would start a new thread to discuss this. My better half wants me to get a motorcycle to drive back and forth to work on decent days. Now, understand that I have never ridden a motorcycle in my life and am now 40. Tammy's reasoning is that it will save on gas money. This is true but it would take a while to save enough to pay off the bike in the first place. I would be looking at a used motorcycle, one without too much power, since I am a novice. My brother (who does ride) suggests that I limit it to about 500cc and buy something that I wouldn't be too upset if I laid it down. I have seen a couple that would…

I'm sure you all have read O. C.'s thread "So my boyfriend is moving in ..." many of you gave great insight to his plight. So my question is this, How many of you that have committed to another person, has ever cheated on that person? By cheating I mean had sexual relations, with another person, that wasn't the one you committed to? If you have, did you own up to it, or will you take that secret to the grave? I will say this for me, before I got married, I was the biggest male whore on the planet, after I got married I have not cheated "done the dirty deed as it were with someone other than my wife", doesn't mean I have not thought about it, talk about it, or even dre…

What Makes More Sense? In looking for replacements for the Cavalier, we've narrowed it down to three options. -2007 Cobalt LT/G5 SE Sedan (~20-25K Kms) -2007 G6 V6 (25-30K Km) -2007 Grand Prix (28-30K Km) The Cobalt LT/G5 SE would set back about 12000$, the G6 or Grand Prix 13000$. I know that cars like the Cobalt are the most frequently abused by rental agency clients, even the G6 falls under this category. The allure of a 3800 W-Body is appealing as well. The GP we're looking at is that Grey-Green color with the black cloth interior. The G6 is that Dark Slate color with the 3.5L V6. The Cobalts and G5s are Ultra Silver with the 2.2L L4. I will make cl…

i hate daily driving the Nova.... its usually up to the challenge, but between poor mileage, me always breaking something, fear of damaging the car, and also the fact that im usually half assing repairs to be able to have little downtime with the car.... final straw happened yesterday. I usually dont bring my car to school, but my school bus just bever showed up, so i kinda had to drive. We arent allowed to park in the school parking lot, so most of us park in the gigantic Macy's parking lot next door. Well at around 2:30 when school let out, the rain was REALLY coming down, i wanted to get the hell home... i was going a little fast through the parking lot, like 20 mph,…

As I noted, there has been an addition made to our driveway. I've posted about this car in particular a while back, while my friend was trying to sell it. Long story short, he no longer has a place to keep it. We have a big yard with lots of room... What's one more? Thus, it's technically not ours. Since he was unsuccessful in selling it, he sort of wants to fix it up and get it back on the road. It runs about as well as the Cutlass, perhaps a bit better, but isn't in nearly as good of condition. If we can get it to pass inspection (it atleast needs brakes), this might help my situation, effectively giving me another car to drive around in. This is a big "IF", however. …

I saw a Yukon Hybrid out on a dealer lot today (sorry, no pics) but the damned thing had 8 hybrid badges. One on each front fender, on on each c-pillar, the big-ass graphic on the bottom of the doors (god I hate that, worse than the "IROC" on 3rd gen Camaros) then one on the tailgate and another on the back window. Jesus, Toyota may run a lot of "we're green" tv ads, but the f@#king Prius on has one hybrid badge.

Some sort of Cadillac? click here Interesting how they went to the trouble of highlighting (or making stand out) those interior controls in blue. The story behind the choices... He has flip-flopped multiple times on what he wants. The choices are all ones he has mentioned. The truck was first choice, it's the beauty of the truck plus the stance of the 4x4 and the 6-bolt rims that were on the 4x4. My problem is the 4x4 part is useless in Oklahoma and the maintenance of a 4x4, plus here these trucks are still going for a premium, from $9-$12,000, depending on condition. I don't want one thats too rough. The civic because the ricer thing hasn't worn off here yet. All his buddies are running around in these damn things, but they're damn expensive for the same reasons. So, I just finished hell week at school, (In case you're wondering, It is possible to get 7 hours of sleep over a 72 hour period and survive) and I am just a little bit bored today... I was looking at the GM logo, where I realized that it looks absolutely ancient. Research has showed me that the last time it was updated was in 1999 (I think) where they converted the original 1967 logo, glossed it over a bit, and slapped it on the letterhead. I think that with the volt coming out in 2010, and the vastly different corporate image GM is after, a new logo is necessary. I made these 2 earlier today. What do you think? Make some of your own too!

I've been thinking... Rather than getting a loan and buying something nice right away, should I just look into another beater? Course, one that isn't as much of a money pit as nor as inefficient as the Cutlass. I currently have about $1200 saved up that could go towards something... decent. Nothing stellar, but something affordable to drive around in while I attempt to sell the Cutlass. As mentioned, the Cutlass is too much of a money pit, especially in gas. This would allow me to save money at a much greater rate. Some of you still think I should put it into my Millenia, but at the moment its on the back burner until something changes on the diagnostic level. I would…

and you see something that just blows your mind? I got the chance to take a 5 door Astra XE for a test drive today. Then I look at an XR, only to find-for like 500 bucks more, you get a bunch more (alm wheels, a/c, better radio, steeing wheel controls..) What the heck? What is the point of the XE? Linkity Saleen S5S Raptor Concept By David Gluckman After teasing us with a concept sketch last month, Saleen has officially unveiled the S5S Raptor concept in New York. We now know that the Saleen 5.0-liter supercharged engine (from whence comes the car's alphanumerics) is a version of the company's tuned Ford V-8 block. Unlike the Mustang creations that Saleen is most famous for, the two-seat car has been designed and styled from the ground up with a mid-engine layout. The chassis is all-aluminum and is wrapped in a composite skin. The Raptor's V-8 runs on E85 ethanol which allows it to produce more power than the similar po…

If you were going to fundamentally change your life and how you live it, what would you do to make that happen? And what would you change your life to? Even better, would you allow someone else to force you to change your life?

My son Joel has a really cool friend Paul who is 16 and learning how to drive. Paul's dad has a nice older Cadillac (similar to Sixty-Eights bannana boat). Paul was pulling into his parent's attached garage, being coached by his father. His father said "now hit the brakes gently." Instead of hitting the brakes Paul hit the gas by mistake. While people may debate the fuel economy and such of old caddies, one thing is for sure...they are just the cat's ass when it comes to destroying drywall and 2x4 studs. The car lurched forward, through the garage wall and into the living room. About six grand worth of damage to the house and a similar amount to the car. While it …

I'm kinda wondering if my Playstation 2 is about the kick the bucket or something.... I have one of the old playstation 2 (the nice big ones), and it is starting to have issues. I'm currently playing NHL 2007, and it seems like the game is getting "stuck". I'll be playing, score a goal, and there will be like a 5 second delay before the horn sounds... The game itself is fine, and I tried a Nascar game too, and it will do the same thing after a while... Though I have noticed if I play hard for while (and does this with te Nascar game), it almost makes a clicking or disk jumping sound.... It has been just fine up till the last few days.... I've heard issues of d…

I love the Banana Boat... so very glad to have it back. Still, I'm a car whore. Monogamy is soooo very hard. Currently I am considering a few cars to replace either the B-59 or the '77 CDV. Earlier today after XP gave me a heads up on a super cheap '76 Cadillac S&S Hearse with flame-thowers, flame paint job and in need of some TLC. I called very quickly (the car has been on Crainglist before) since the price had seemingly hit rock bottom. SOLD as of about 2 hrs. ago. Oh well. I've had this unsatable appetite for a REAL Pontiac, as in a classic Pontiac, something RWD, BOF & with one or more of the following: - Chrome Beak (metal twin-port…

What a bunch of BS! They "flag" and remove a listing and then you are supposed to play detective to find out why? BS Tried 'em once, that's more than enough. What jackass came up with that system?

Today at lunch, I had to go past the local BPG dealership. I immediately noticed a nice looking '09 Vibe GT in Mystic Blue with sunroof. Mystic Blue is a sort of teal color, and with the handsome 18" GT rims, it was by far the best looking new Vibe I've seen yet. After work, I decided to stop in and take a test drive. "My" salesdude was there who sold me my truck. He stuck a dealer tag on the car and I drove it off the dealer's front lawn. The Vibe GT is pretty much a loaded vehicle, with a long list of standard stuff, including cloth seats with leather trim and a kickass Monsoon sound system. The 5-speed manual transmission and clutch work fine together. The 2.4…

I love how parents pick hondas because they think they are so reliable and safe. Last night a young girl couldn't stop in time on wet pavement due to not having ABS. Her brakes locked up and she ended up rear ending the HHR. Had she had the same year Cavalier she would have avoided hitting me because of having ABS. At any rate, she was going about 20 mph and did some decent damage to the honda but very little to the HHR. One of her friends pulled over to see if she was ok and upon inspecting the cars told her that if she had bought a Chevy the damage would not be so bad and with the ABS she would have stopped in time. Funny, I didn't even need to say anything. …

Is your family a BI BRAND or a BI AUTOMAKER family, or do you stick to one brand or one automaker only. As for us, we have Pontiac and Chevy in our garage for now, but who knows what the future holds. I know it will always be GM though. I always wonder about people who have like a Toyota, Nissan, and a Dodge in the driveway? I wonder WHY??? What made you do that? Was it price? If you thought this thread was about something else entirely, It's my pleasure to meet you! :AH-HA_wink:

Most of us no doubt have a collection of tools they use for their projects, be they automotive or otherwise. The question is: do you let them get dirty or do you try to keep them clean, and when they do get dirty to you clean them or not? I just bought a new tool, a Black and Decker Tri-Ratchet...which is awesome. I plan to keep it clean like all of my tools. I hate dirty tools, because then you get your hands dirty when you go to use a dirty tool, thereby getting other tools and anything else you touch dirty. I don't mind getting dirty, but I like my tools to look clean and new...maybe I'm just weird like that? My friend is the same way though. Neither of our fathers…

listing in the local classified ad for a 1986 el camino choo choo and a 1989 iroc camaro, first $5000 takes em both. interestingly enough its good to see the prices on cars coming back down. watching barrett jackson in pebble beach i saw several good cars go fo good money. 1970 ss 454 monte carlo in astro blue with a black vinyl top for $20K several good cruisers could be had for under 20 on the first days. in fact an old cutlass went for 8500 with only 3500 miles on it. black with a tan top. tan interior. http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application...h/w_search.aspx

My daughter will be 16 on June 23rd. Before you say it SuperSport623, I know it's your birthday too, that only makes my heartburn that much worse. I told my daughter that I would not be home on her birthday because I will be working out of the country and because of that I told her to pick something she really wanted for her birthday and I would get it for her (foolish me). Who knew she would ask to see the Jonas Brothers in concert with 3 of her friends and she wants me to drive them there and go to the concert but not sit to close to them. This concert is in Pennsylvania (Yankee Land) in the summer, which means a trip back home to the USA (two airline tickets), and al…

My wife collects Coke items, and our whole kitchen is done up in a Coca-Cola theme. She wants to do our basement in a 50's style with a Coke theme when we finish it. Odd thing is, she loves collecting Coke stuff but will only drink Pepsi. What does your significant other do that is a little bit odd or funny? Chris

Well not really "curse" so much as driver stupidity. I was on delivery in the $h!tier area of Lawrence, at an intersection with no light and poor visiblity. There was also some jackass parked at the corner. As I came to s astop this beat up 80's Town Car comes to a stop behind me, kind of short. I pull out a few inches to see around the car at the corner. He pulls up too but hits his braakes kind of hard, as I can see the boat nose dive a bit. I pull out a coupel of inches more and stop to geta better view and wait for an openning in busy traffic...then BAM! I'm rear ended...and more than a little pissed. Let's lok at the facts: 2nd accident in less…

"My" new Smart Passion: $14,620. White/black with tan interior, premium sound system, foglamps, power steering, clock and tachometer. Can "comical" also be "smart"? I saw my second Smart locally on the street yesterday, yellow with black frame, driven by an uber-nerdy guy with glasses. What's going on here? Is it hip to be square?

Yesterday I was driving, approaching an intersection. I had the green light. A Mitsu Galant approached from my right at the intersection, at the red light, pulling up past the white line. I noticed she had a cell phone to her left ear. She gave a quick glance my way, then pulled out right in front of me (requiring me to brake pretty hard to avoid hitting her stupid ass). She then got into the left lane beside me, in the right lane. I saw an opportunity. Her right side front window was down half way. I gunned the Sierra, pulled up next to her, rolled my window down and yelled "GET OFF THE PHONE AND DRIVE, BITCH!" She responded with a smug glance and a middle fin…

I saw a Holden Suburban today, nothing more than a rebadged Chevy Suburban they even kinda just welded the Holden badge on the front, with one odd twist. The dash is from a Chevy Blazer. I thought I was seeing things, at first. but there it was. So I did a little research ala Google and found this. Check under - Features and design to see about the Blazer dash. Spring is here; time for the Spring/Summer Thread! It has been (and, in some ways, continues to be) a LONG, cold, snowy winter, for some of us.... BUT, with spring arriving, I'm looking forward to... ... softball/baseball (Dad's Friday night Elgin city league team; bro-in-law's Tuesday night Elgin city league team). ... warmer temps and SUNSHINE! ... getting my older 4 Monte Carlos out (hopefully earlier than I did last year). ... gatherings, reunions, car cruises and shows (including the July 26 Chicagoland area gathering). ... traveling/road trips, though not as much as I'd like (including Pennsylvania, June 27-29; Indiana / Ohio / Pennsylvania / New Jersey…

I was checking through Craigslist, which is pretty addictive if you ask me, and came across this ad 1989 Camaro Yeah, I know, it's another 3rd gen Camaro. But, but, but, it's another convertible. It looks damn nice and the price is very reasonable. The only problem is that I have a full driveway already, not to mention garage. I have no plans to buy this one, unless of course the Cavalier sells real quick. If that were to happen, I might just pick this one up and consider selling my 89 RS Convertible. Hmmmmm...... Think Tammy would agree to it???

...IM name? We've had threads about how we came up with our screen name on the message board(s), but what about your Instant Messenger ID, whether it is AIM, YahooIM, etc. (especially if it is different than your screen name here)? *pauses* Of course, only share if you want people to contact you via IM.... AND: Anyone else, like me, have people on your IM buddy list(s) that, sadly, you've no idea who they are anymore? I don't open my IMs as much as I used to. Years ago (or so it seems), I spent most of the evening IMing with people. Now, along with other things, my evening hours are spent reading and posting to groups/boards. So, when I do open up my IMs, I…
