Something that has always bothered me about the Pontiac Solstice would be how they moved the placement of the arrowhead badge and the hood cutline from the concept car. The repositioning of the badge also gives the car more of a "cheeky" look that bothers me a little bit. Just something that I came to a full realization of while looking at my sig. Still a beautiful car, however, and it doesn't do much in the way of dampening my appreciation of the car.

The other day I was out walking and something popped into my head about GM. Everyone says they have to many brands, including many within GM. I am not sure that they necessarily have to many brands as much as they have to many brands fighting for the same market. Perhaps GM needs to separate the brands more and going to the extreme as my mind often does I came up with the following to separate out the brands as best as they can be (albeit in a fantasy world): Chevrolet Core values: volume, affordability, practicality Core vehicles: FWD compact sedan/coupe, FWD midsize sedan/coupe, RWD volume large sedan Key competitors: Toyota, Honda, Ford...(other mainstream b…

Sooooooo had a root-canal at the dentist yesterday due to a cracked tooth. I hate the dentist. I'd rather get 500 tetanus shots & 500 MRIs than go in for ANYTHING at the dentist. My teeth are wicked sensitive and I have had some horror-movie experiences at the dentist. SERIOUSLY. Blood and all! So anyway I'm a little delusional, maybe that explains the following: I'm considering buying Julie a FWD car, on my own accord. Let me repeat myself: I'm considering buying a FWD car. Scary I know. It's a topsy-turvy world out there. Either way she's doing a lot of complainign a bout the the size of the RoadmOnster, esp. the width. B-bodys got some WIDE…

I found it at a car show in Laurel County yesterday. :AH-HA_wink: EDIT: Sorry that the photos will not show up here in the rotated state as they do on Photobucket. I will try to fix that later if you wish.

After a pretty harsh winter, I think my cars need a good waxing... Which leads me to an important question: What do you you guys/gals use? I've been a Mothers fan for years(my cav still looks new), but a buddy wants to me to switch to 3M.... He said it offers even more protection from the crappy weather here... Time for the Turtle Wax roll call.... :AH-HA_wink:

So this past Saturday was $50 Day at Holland's Used Auto, and my best hope of getting a good deal on replacement parts for our beaten up cars. Jessica and I got up bright and early at 5:30am, emptied out the T&C and put the things we thought we'd need in it and headed to Silvester's. We met at about 6:30 and followed Sixty in his RoadMonster to take care of some stuff, get breakfast and head to the junkyard. Our game plan was to hit the Prizms first, since they were near the entrance, then scope out the Cadillacs and proceed to the Intrepids. Even though it was only 8am there was already a good amount of people in the yard and they had a guy directing us to the park…

Friday evening after work, I stopped in at a new local diner to have supper. It had been a long time since lunch, and I was feeling pretty hungry. As I was waiting for my food, I caught myself staring at my server as she took care of her other tables. I realized my eyes were locked on her every move as the minutes ticked by, my table and my stomach empty. When she assured me "yours will be out soon!" with a little knowing smile, I became amused at myself and realized I probably had a half-crazed, desperate, "FEED ME!" look in my eyes, a look this waitress had probably felt dozens of times before.

I just realized today that I have been a member of C&G for five years this month. May 2003 was when I first registered, way back on the really old board. I was looking for some information on the Oldsmobile phase out and linked to here, which was still in a fledgling state and probably had only 200-300 members. And what kept me coming back was the Member's Talent area, the Skunkworks designs for the Chevelle, and the professional comprehensive reporting on automotive news. As long as I've been a member, we've had three major board redesigns, two large board failures, we've seen the last Oldsmobile roll off the line, we speculated what the C6 Corvette would look…

I was doing a little thinking recently about finding a project pickup at some point down the road, and the 1973-1987 C/K pickups (and '73-'91 Suburbans/Blazers/Jimmys) are the natural choice because of their driveability, modularity, and aftermarket support, and also because they hold a special place in my heart because they are the trucks I grew up with and remember vividly from my childhood as my father, most other male family members of mine, most of my friend's fathers, and virtually all of my father's friends and acquaintances drove them. They had all different sizes and configurations; long beds and short, crew cabs and standard, fleetside and stepside, two wheel dr…

I have an Audi A6 (3.2L) press car this week and I was told its electronically limited to 130mph. Turns out it's more like 133 Heh...but the funnier part of the day was with the chief of police. I kinda know him, and he wanted to check out the A6. So on a local highway, I did 116 with him in the passenger seat. I wasn't going to let it rip but he said something like "come on, do it!" I was almost hoping we'd get pulled over just to see what would happened when the chief stepped out in full uniform.

Last night while on my way to see a friend, I stopped off to fill up my Riv. After spending $40 to fill up from ABOVE a half tank, I proceeded north on Route 100 ( also known as Central Park Avenue) anyway about a mile up the road, I was cruising in the right lane at about 35MPH, it was dark out and raining, I had my wipers on. Suddenly, a dark blue '91 Accord pulls out of a parking lot, nearly takes the front of my Riv off, and pulls out into the road. He begins to gain some speed, at this point I had flashed him my high beams and was racing to catch up to him to curse him out. Just as I was catching up to him, I noticed two people crossing the road up ahead, and the…

In the "Who Will Be Where This Year?" thread where I mentioned where I'll be in 2008 and early 2009, I also asked 2 questions: "Where is your favorite area?" and "Where do you want to go in your lifetime?". I thought these might be better suited for a different topic; thus, this thread. But, a twist, on both questions: 1 ... Where is your favorite area in your HOME country (for most of us, the US)? 2 ... Where do you want to go in your HOME country (for most of us, the US) in your lifetime? For me ... the answers are easy: 1 ... Nashville/Jackson TN 2 ... Everywhere I haven't been already on one of my road trips, to see the sights and, of course, meet more p…

As we're talking we hear this extremely crashing noise and what sounded to me like a clutch grinding. So recently I decided I needed to lose some weight. My genes make it very likely for me to have high blood pressure and high cholesteral, and as I recently hit 215 lbs this spring I noticed I had started to feel like crap. I went to the doctor for a physical and sure enough the high BP had hit and my cholesteral was on the border. At 5'9" I was a relatively healthy 175 about 3 years ago. My metabolism has obviously slowed since high school, I started drinking beer more often, and I just didn't have enough time in my life to make myself healthy meals. I had a part time job that I was working at one or two afternoons a week that I let go a few months ago. With the …

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did, and maybe it will help you take life a little slower and with more meaning. In July 2006, a short 3-minute movie was launched on the Internet called The Dash. Since then, over 40 million people from around the world have watched it, and over 20,000 a day continue to watch it as a result of people passing it along. The movie has been more successful than anyone could have ever imagined. More importantly, however, it has inspired many, many people to reflect on their lives and ask that all important question, 'Are my priorities where they should be?' I leave you with this movie and I hope you share it with those who are close to…

As a Buick owner for 28 years and a current 2006 Buick Lucerne owner, it is with nostalgia that I say Good Bye to Buick. I am hopeful that Buick does not go the way of Oldsmobile. However, it is the forgotten stepchild of GM relegated to a small room in the attic. Tomorrow I take a last and longing look at this old friend as I step into the new world of my 2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid. I once swore never to darken the steps of the foreign auto market. But as the Buick I once knew slipped silently away into the attic room neglected I reluctantly yet with anticipation look forward to a new day in my hybrid. Farewell Old Friend!

Went to the doctor today, again. Man, this is getting annoying. Some background. Last year, Tammy literally drug me into the doctor's office because I was in real bad shape. Turns out it was a good thing, I had pneumonia, was getting over the flu, and was developing a bad case of sinusitis. Anyway, as I was getting over that, the doctor noticed I was rubbing my hands. Oops. I wound up finally telling a medical professional that I was having shooting pains from my neck down both arms and through my hands and fingers. No way to predict when they would happen. As I've mentioned, there's this 96 Nissan Hardbody pickup for sale that I'm seriously considering. It's a regular cab, standard bed with a 2.4L 4cyl and 5spd manual. So im finishing up my last english class of high school, and we're working on alot of shirt stories, most of them pretty boring. Our latest one is "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson. I love it! it has the craziest plot twist, and contrasts a "civilized" small american town with the barbarian nature that embodies every american, and holds a message that we ignore violence and suffering until it personally affects us. ive read it a few times, and everytime i read it i discover more symbolism, and im usually not this much into English stories. Anyone read it? if your interested its not that long. The Lottery

So I bought an 04 Bonneville for the girlfriend to get around in. Her old car was nearing the end and I got a hell of a deal on this car that was out in Boise. It seemed to be pretty well optioned and I never saw a picture of it, just knew it was in decent shape, had 65K on it, and was white and that was enough for me. So I fly out to Boise to drive it back. When I get there, to my suprise it has hub caps on it. I was over it pretty quickly and figured I would throw a nice set of 17s on it and call it good. Well the girlfriend hates how aftermarket it is going to look with most of the rims I've found for a decent price and wants something stock on it. So I thoug…

For the second time in one week, I've locked my keys in the Cutlass. The third time, overall. And, of course, I was too stubborn to get an extra set made after the first and second times. I'm likely to repeat this and add another tally for the week. The good new is... I've become a master at breaking into it. Once I have the right tool (read: a metal hanger), it doesn't take much. Since I'm probably going to be too stubborn to actually go out and get an extra key made, I ought to just stick a hanger to my frame. I should be golden. *shakes head* I miss power locks.

Hey there, so last week I was trying to develop my photoshop skills (specifically my ability to create images with a 3-d metallic finish). To do so, I created a modified Saturn logo as practice. Paolino asked me to try my hand at Buick, and after a week of delay (Hey, I had 2 papers and an exam!) I actually finished one this morning. In all honesty, I don't think i like it. It's a little too different, and doesn't exude the classy yet modern that Buick is trying to exude. I'll probably try again, but until then I present to you: "Jon's Official-Unofficial-2008 Buick Logo"! *Cue Generic Pseudo-Electronica AutoShow Debut Music*

Last night I had a deusey of a dream. It all came back to me in the shower this morning. I was naked and walking, when I came upon a car dealership. It was made up of 3 lots, each with a small sales office. The cars were all non-descript, of different brands and model years, but it was a new car dealership (seemingly in decline). I entered one of the buildings. No one cared or acknowledged I was naked, and I was not embarrassed at all. It was dark, with a 1970's, dark brown pleather and chrome decor. I looked at racks of brochures, and left. Groups of cars were parked in patterns randomly on the lots, I was just browsing, when I came upon something that piqued m…

Perhaps I am wound a little too tight, but my Wife & I will soon be in the market for a midsize sedan, and nothing in GM's lineup appeals to either one of us. A big reason? GM's abandonment of traditional domestic style controls! Wipers belong on the left hand stalk; the headlight switch belongs on the dash, and most of all, I expect a *real* tilt style column in my GM vehicle! Ford seems to get it; GM doesn't. The new Fusion eschewed a Mazda 6 style steering column, for traditional domestic controls. If I want import style controls, I will by an import. Fit and finish and powertrain sophistication, has improved with new GM vehicles. Unfortunately, GM veh…

Here's some reasons I hate 2008: 1. Cellphones and the incessant chattering of the masses, anywhere, anyplace 2. Overly refined cars and trucks. To the point of numbness. No sense of being connected to the road and surrounding environment. 3. The Green agenda. Sick to death of seeing it in every newscast, in every magazine and newspaper. The self righteous do-gooders have hijacked any remaining joy in life. It's the new religion. Cultish almost. 4. Vulgar and low class celebrities. 5. Buicks are no longer Buicks. I could go on and on.....tell us some reasons you hate 2008.

For those of you that didn't see my last post, I had a buddy of mine at the local dealership pick up a '07 Aura XR off smart auction for us. Got the car home yesterday morning and spent most if the weekend on it detailing and checking it over. It cleaned up a lot better that I thought it would. One wheel had been curbed and has some scuffing on it, just bought a new one off ebay to replace it with for $57!!! Here's some pics from today....

Okay, I know this is a loaded question, because everybody will have "their" own favorite brand to recommend. A close friend of mine wanted me to go with him 42" LCD TV shopping this afternoon, mainly because he can't fit what he wants to buy in his '05 Grand Prix and needed me for my Envoy (friends with trucks ). I really didn't mind though, because I haven't spent much time with Jeff lately. Anyway, a we started off at Best Buy to see what deals they had. He looked at LG, Samsung, Toshiba, and Sony there. Next was Cicuit City, with pretty much the same offering, but adding in Westinghouse. Last stop was at BJ's Wholesale Club, where he looked at a Philips, Ole…

She says they're giving $1500 off all Astras until April 30. Is this a nationwide thing, or just indicative of the glut at my local dealer?

My contract in Colorado ended March 31, and I've been down here in Phoenix house sitting from my sister since then.... I've been working the phone and using Monster and Dice since a week ago Monday, had 4 in-person interviews and now have 3 job offers w/ a 4th likely to come tommorow--(1 12 month contract, 1 contract-to-hire, 2 perm positions), another interview tommorow..the job market is much better than I thought it would be here, given the economy as a whole (the software biz seems not too affected by the overall economy currently).

I won't take a "major" road trip this year because I want to attend several different events, some of which I missed last year. Thus, 2008 trips will be short'n'sweet. "TBINS!" ... a co-worker responded with that acronym Friday afternoon when we were talking about how good it was to be TGIF (Thank God It's Friday). We all kinda looked at him funny, he shrugged and responded, "Too Bad It's Not Saturday". He explained that he'd rather it be Saturday so he didn't have to be at work. I don't know, though. While that sounds good initially, I still prefer TGIF ... because you have the ENTIRE weekend ahead of you. If it is already Saturday, part (if not half) of the weekend is already done.... So ... what's your perspective ... TGIF or TBINS? Cort:34swm."Mr Monte Carlo.Mr Road Trip".pig valve&pacemaker WRMNshowcase.legos.HO.mod…

*grins* ...be an UNCLE!!! Easter weekend, my sister and her husband gave us each a picture of the two of them standing together. The picture also has these words: " Digital Camera ... $150.00 Photo Paper ... $0.50 Picture Frame ... $3.99 Finding out there's actually 3 people in this picture ... $ Priceless " Joy (due in November) and Eric are THRILLED, and I'm sssooo excited to be an uncle-to-be...FINALLY! Perhaps I'm a wee bit jealous...I'm older than Joy...and, well, even though I'm "chronically single", I'd like to be a Dad.... BUT, I will thoroughly enjoy my new role and make sure that I corrupt this nephew or niece as well as I've corrupted the …

Okay, so here's the deal: Little background info: I have enormous tonsils... like the biggest any doctor has ever seen (it is directly related to hoohah size from what I hear :AH-HA_wink: ) Anyway, I also have a severe deviated septum... and severe sleep apnea. I can't use the machine, because my nose doesn't allow enough air to pass through it (literally my entire right nostril is closed), for me to breathe at night. Doctors have recommended I have the tonsils removed and the septum opened. This is coming from 3 different doctors. And all 3 say to do it at the same time, because the real risk in surgery is the anesthesia. My mother however, of course, must fi…

Any of the mods have the scoop or are we still "flying blind" on this topic? Maybe he bought that Jaguar after all and ended up in the poor-house as a result of the repair bills, or perhaos mental hospital for same basic root causes? I've got a few Jaguar hood ornaments amongst the hundreds of emblems I've collected over the years. That's all the Jaguar I need. I'd love to see my old '76 LeSabre featured in the "Project Car Chronicles". Saddly I do not even know if Fly still owns the car.

There's a live police chase on an OC freeway now on CNN, white 2007 Yukon..blasting along passing everything, in and out of HOV lanes.. on the SB 405...up to 105 mph. Stolen apparently. Female driver. Britney making a run? Apparently been all over the place for over an hour--I-5, 605, 57, etc.. They are saying stolen rental from Anaheim. OnStar is getting several name checks...apparently, the rental agency called OnStar and OnStar called the police. The reporters asked if OnStar can remotely disable the car... Now on I-5 near Dana Point..must be making a run for Mexico. Now the talking heads are joking about the gas mileage and that it had a full tank, …

Well, wifey did. Salesman friend of ours bid on smart auction and won a '07 Aura XR with 32k miles. Was a GM rental car. Berry red with black leather and moon roof. Auction noted some paint flaws, hope it look ok when they get it up to the dealer. I'm usually quit picky on my vehicles but when the wife drives over 30k miles a year it's hard to get too picky. It's gonna see a lot of the enviroment each day of her commute! Was a bit iffy about it being a rental (but may have been rented/leased to a business??) but 100k powertrain warranty has my nerves settled. I really liked the powertrain and black leather option of the XR, but I suppose the XE would've been the ideal c…

Pretty solid song, except the production makes it sound kind of flat. They need some bigger sounding drums like they used to use. The chorus sounds a little too "modern rock," but the rest of it is great. Anyone notice the "Los Angeles 3:27 AM" bit at the beginning of the video. I think that was taken from the first scene of Terminator 1 when the guy is sitting in the garbage truck as the Terminator timewarps in.

Please vote on your choice, and then post your rational. So far we have test-driven both vehicles, and the Edge is leading in her eyes. I'm trying to wait it out at least until the Memorial Day Sales begin - though I'm sure the 4th of July Sale will probably be better The better deal will most likely win, but who knows??? Thanks

Well, The company I was working for went belly-up.......so I've been back on the job market. Ironically, one of my closest friends (who has owned his own dealerships before, and ran a BMW and a Mercedes-Benz store here in Orange County) has moved recently to Las Vegas and is running a Cadillac dealership there.....and he wants me to come work for him and build and run his internet sales department! This could be a great opportunity, I'd be working for a Caddy store, with one of my closest friends (whom I've worked for before at Irvine BMW....so we know we work really well together) and it would be a fun career change. What do you guys think? I'd keep my condo her…

Cory, You might remember about 6 months or so ago I sent your sketches to Ed Welburn, well I never heard anything back. Now that I am a GM god :AH-HA_wink:, Ed himself reads and answers my e-mails when I send them now. I discussed your sketches with him in an E-Mail a week or so ago, please see Ed's response below. give me 5 - 10 sketches and send them to my yahoo email at [email protected], I have limited web and email access where I am now, so that's a better email address for me. I will send them directly to Ed Welburn himself, also supply me with your e-mail address too, so I can forward it to Ed so he can give you his thoughts on them directly. Please note, …

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/10/la-time...ear-i/#comments NBC is inching closer to finalizing the cast for the American version of the hit BBC series Top Gear, but it looks more and more like Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld and Tim Allen won't be part of the program. Reportedly to be called just "Gear", the show is anticipated to include four presenters instead of the BBC's three – although one could be assuming the role of The Stig as the show's test driver. Adam Carolla announced on his radio show that he'd be taking part in the program. Formula D driftmaster Tanner Faust is also tipped to be on the show (possibly in the aforementioned test driver role). However Dan Neil,…

As reported in the National Post yesterday, http://www.financialpost.com/story.html?id=445465 : "The online science magazine Tomorrow's Discoveries, which specializes in breaking major science news before it actually happens, reports the discovery of the heaviest element yet known to science. The new element, Governmentium (Gv), has one neutron, 29 assisstant neutrons, some 100 deputy neutrons, and 222 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 352. These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons. Since governmentium has no electrons, it is inert; however, it…

I've been waiting for this. We are very close to the family across the street, including their children. Their oldest boy is going to prom. His parents recently seperated and things are tough over there and money is tight. His car doesn't work and he and his friends haven't been able to come up with enough money for a limo. I knew he was working up the balls to ask me if he could borrow my brand new Z. Well, he finally did. I feel bad for him, and I never even got to go to prom and nobody in his family really has a cool car. But, never mind insurance woes, I just can't do it, plus if his parents knew he had asked they would freak out. I plan to either let my son use my Z …
