Well I have always wanted to write a book and I think know would be the time. The biggest challenge for me is what to write about and who's my audience and would people care. Also its a promise I need to carry out. Before my friend Jay was KIA He always joked about writing a story of our lives in the military and Call it "The life story of an nonexistent person." one thing I'm not short of, is story's, or plot lines, but If i told my story it would have no direction and kind of whiny. So some questions would you be interested in reading about my life? Is it worth it? What should i call it? What message should i try to put across? Do i target it to the youngsters i…

Oh my. The folks who had the Yaris and xB moved out of the other half of the duplex and two chicks are moving in. My first clue was the other evening, I was mowing and they were on their deck. One ordinary, the other a bit of a stand-out with a do-rag and football jersey (but not overly butch). Then this evening, the one girl's dad was there doing some carpentry and he mentioned in passing that there will be two dogs, one belonging to his daughter, the other to "her girlfriend". WHAT SHOULD I DO ABOUT THIS??? :AH-HA_wink:

Cut the Fat: A Smaller GM is the Only Way to Go Please note this isn't actually what I want to happen, but rather what I think has to happen in order for GM to survive, and not only survive, but thrive. Here is how I would go about fixing GM: Kill: Pontiac, GMC, Buick Sell: Hummer Possibly stop selling in US: Saab Keep: Chevy, Saturn, Cadillac I'll see how long I decide to write for, but here's the basic idea: I think it's pretty obvious GMC has nothing but rebadges. The Acadia is their most unique product, and there are 3 other Lambdas. Reasons to support cutting GM have been addressed in the last week or so, so I see no reason to expand. Most buyers woul…

So, while looking for crossover leases for my boss, and researching dealer incentives on Edmunds, I decided to see what the SRX had to offer (its probably more than what he wants to spend but I thought maybe there were some good leases...). Anyways, right now there's a $2024 GM to dealer incentive for premium lux V6 models, $900 GM to dealer for AWD on V6 models, and $900 GM to dealer for the rear seat. Before today when the $3000 GM to customer incentive came out, there was also a $2000 GM to dealer incentive for any model SRX (at least V6). There's an SRX that has these options plus the 18" wheel and tire package and white diamond paint at my local dealership right now …

I have been laptop hunting in addition to my Macbook which has 2GB of ram Duo Core Intel based Mac from work I want something for home in addition to my two older pc's. I have been thinking about a Lenevo Thinkpad T Series a buisness style notebook. I really don't need much stuff on it but I do want a widescreen and a high rpm hard drive. Also a Core 2 Duo is a must and would like about 2GHZ in that Core 2 Duo. In addition I have a very nice exteral HD (500 GB 1/2 Tera) where I have all my stuff so I don't need a huge hard drive 80gb or 100gb would do. Also I have an excellent dual layer DVD/CD burner that is external so I only need a DVD/CD-RW drive. I also need 2GB of r…

man was washed up on a beach after a terrible shipwreck. Only a sheep and a sheepdog were washed up with him. After looking around, he realized that they were stranded on a deserted island. After being there awhile, he got into the habit of taking his two animal companions to the beach every evening to watch the sunset. One particular evening, the sky was a fiery red with beautiful cirrus clouds, the breeze was warm and gentle - a perfect night for romance. As they sat there, the sheep started looking better and better to the lonely man. Soon, he leaned over to the sheep and put his arm around it. But the sheepdog, ever protective of the sheep, growled fiercel…

Last night, one or more people broke into two cars in the small parking lot next to my apartment. This area has been notorious over the years for having cars broken into due to how secluded and dark it is at night (in a semi-wooded area). No windows from the apartment face this parking lot, so the thugs think it's a free-for-all and have hit some people twice even. I was third in line parked next to a newish Chevy TrailBlazer and a late 90s Pontiac Sunfire (the Pontiac was closest to the parking lot entrance). The guy that drives the TB is moving out next week to Michigan where his wife will be attending grad school. My car had a pretty new mini-fridge in the backs…

I'm all for patriotism, but man there's a bunch of losers every year that get off on blowing FWs at all hours of the NIGHT and day, I don't wanna hear it, do something productive with your time instead of seeing how close you can keep your face to it before at the last minute you jump away and avoid facial deformation. And yeah, the money you spent on fireworks might be better spent on an education. Go see the fireworks show, they are all over on July 4th at sundown.

Yesterday after chickening out from going to Carlisle, I was driving around town aimlessly, when I came to an intersection adjacent to a park next to F&M university campus, and noticed several people standing around with rainbow-colored umbrellas in the hot sunshine. Then I looked again, and saw some protesters holding huge signs reciting Bible verses and yelling things like "if you masturbate to porn, God hates you!". "What the heck is THIS?" I said to myself. So I quickly found a parking spot and approached the gate. Sure enough, it was a Gay Pride festival, right here in little old Lancaster, our first. It was just getting started at the time, but the crowd s…

So here is what I'm thinking I might do for a project sometime in the future, hopefully the near future. 1996 Chevrolet Camaro, bad engine, $700. Then I take out the engine, transmission, etc., and drop in a diesel, preferably a Duramax from a wrecked Chevrolet or GMC HD truck (isn't there a six cylinder version used in commercial-grade trucks, too?). I wonder what sort of manual transmission would work with the Duramax, or if all of this would even fit in a Camaro? Hmmm ...

Some, if not most, of you know I've wanted the following for a while: * a bonafide "winter beater" in the form of a newer car OR (my preference) another '86-'88 MC LS that is in not-so-good shape OR a 1977-1979 Caprice Classic OR a 1989-1990 Caprice 9C1 * a 1987 MC SS Aerocoupe (or even just an SS, for that matter) * my own home with a over-sized garage.... * a 1975 Caprice Classic convertible Slowly, but surely, I've been saving money (kinda hard with more then average medical bills) and, as of now, I have the money for the winter beater (have had that money for over a year now), and almost enough for an SS I have my eye on.... Alright, well so far we've looked at 3 cars, and will be looking at a 4th tomorrow. So here's some quick stories about the three. Also, besides the Intrepid, these are photos of the actual cars. #1: 2002 Dodge Neon I saw an add for a `02 Dodge Neon. There were two photos of it. The driver's side was banged up, but he said it ran good. Cosmetics didn't bother me because parts are easy to find (I saw 2 of them at the junkyard I went to last week). Yesterday we went to take a look at it, since it was nearby. The guy's English sucks but whatever, he seemed nice enough. I walked around the car, and saw it had seen better days. Driver's doors, fender, hood, and bumper…

Well... Today's my brother's birthday, he turned 14. I still remember that morning like it was yesterday- I spent the night at my grandparents place and we rushed over to the Rockyview Hospital in their then new Emerald Green 1994 Neon Sport Sedan (with the automatic) so I could see my new baby brother... We were trying to meet my dad but when he was going down an elevator we were going up and vice versa- my grandfather was 65 then. Today, in that very hospital, two floors above the maternity ward, my grandfather lies suffering from congestive heart failure and a collapsed lung at age 80 (He's fine for now)... We're not sure what's the cause but they think it's a leaky …

A human foot was discovered partially submerged in the water near Westham Island in Ladner, B.C., Delta police said Monday. It's the fifth human foot police have found in the province in less than a year. "As far as it being linked to other partial remains found, we haven't dismissed that. We're considering all possibilities," Const. Sharlene Brooks told CBC News. A couple out for a walk in the 2800 block of Savage Road spotted a shoe floating in the water around 10:30 a.m. and called police, she said. Investigators said it's a left foot. "Right now we're working very closely with the B.C. coroners service to identity the person whose remains we have recovered," B…

Since I have 3 compact cars (a Balt and two Cavs) that are good on gas...what if my next car is a truck? A Trailblazer, to be exact. The TB would be used for trips for the family, and trips to Lowe's or Sam's Club.... I would keep the other cars for the commute, so the TB would be lucky to see, maybe 50 miles in a week....(not counting trips to places) And since they will be gone soon, I should be able to get one pretty cheap...all I need is an LS that can tow, A/C, CD...that's pretty much it. For the past few months I've been strongly considering getting a second job. At my current one, management keeps reducing the Pharmacy hours and since I'm on the bottom, I'm the one taking most of the hit. For a while there, when the one girl quit, I was getting near full time hours. I was happy about that despite still being stuck at my rather paltry wages. Now I'm down around half that and it's really not worth it for all the more I make. However, in 3 or 4 months, my benefits start. I don't want to give those up. So this is where a second job would come in, essentially giving me the hours I want and putting me over 40 hours a week. I could really use the extra income. …

Rumors of my demise are greatly exaggerated! I have been in the USA working on something and waiting for my surgery date to come up, well today was the day for my surgery. They started the surgery at 6 AM, and it continued until 10 AM when they wheeled me out in a wheelchair. All I can say is thank God we arrived in the NOX, as I would not have been able to get into the Grand Prix GXP as it sits to low to the ground. I should be back up to full speed by Friday. I Hope so, I have plans to go t Hershey Park, PA Friday. On top of sandbagging and evacuating my office today, I just heard that a tornado struck a boy scout camp in Western Iowa and flattened it, killing four scouts. Apparently it came up quick and they had no time to get into proper shelter. Definitely some terrible weather we're having lately...they have closed down downtown, so I get Thursday and Friday off from work. The river is going to crest Friday morning at 24' above flood stage, which is a level they have never seen here before. The cops came into work today and told everyone we had to evacuate the building. Before that, we carried 2000 drawings dating back to 1979 up to the second floor. Now all bridges acros…

So I have been traveling for business and Enterprise was kind enough to honor my request for a GM "premium" car with an 08 LaCrosse. I know most people are poo-pooing the 3.8, but inside this car, you can barely hear it at all. Also, when at highway speeds, the car barely goes over 2,000 RPMs which keeps the car rather quiet. Inside the car, there is plenty of head room, the gauges are nice, the wheel with the radio and cruise controls is a nice feature, but there is no AUX/IPOD jack in the radio, which peeved me as I could not hook up my IPOD or Stilletto2 Sirius radio. I loved the seat with the power adjustment/lumbar. My mileage through highway traffic and San Francisc…

LOL, James is rockin' the 'goatfield' about the same length as mine now in the clips. The Quietus <--- Says a lot of truths about the band but isn't fair about the Load era (I loved the Loads and even St. Anger when taken into context) and BTW, I don't think the Red Hot Chili Peppers (as horrible as they are) ever really needed any help. Given the constant rise in gas prices, can you imagine a world in the not-too-distant future where cars are despised, abandoned, destroyed? That was my nightmare the other night. Due to some personal issues, I've been having trouble sleeping as of late and this nightmare certainly didn't help matters. In the nightmare, gas prices were nearing the $10/gallon mark, and people with cars averaging less than 25 mpg were terrorized and threatened, while their offending vehicle(s) were beaten up and set ablaze before their very eyes. That included me ... I was forced to watch all 5 of my MCs "burned at the stake". Oddly, the radio on in the background was not playing music…

This is kind of a spin-off from a comment in the thread discussing the interest in Hummer by a couple companies from India: What would it take for GM to merge some brands? Take the whole clustering of brands (Buick-Pontiac-GMC for example) to the next level, and have them share a corporate shell and legal entity. Let's call it "GM Specialties" for now. Some thoughts: + Dealerships would have a contract with "GM Specialties", not the specific brands contained within. A Specialties dealership (auto boutique?) could order (or not order) any product from the Specialties' included brands, maybe with some requirements/standards as to how the products are displayed …

Okay, so the wife has gone from wanting a '08 CTS or Enclave (determined out of our price range), to a VUE or an Edge (fuel concerns) to now wanting a small, fuel-efficient (plus cheap!) 4- or 5-door car. Why the change? Realizing that it cost us $50 to fill up the AURA and $65 to fill up the Envoy last Friday, she wants to get something more affordable and, more importantly, will aid in saving additional $$$ in our bank account and not spent at the gas station. We just recently test-drove the all-new 2009 Pontiac Vibe GT FWD and she likes that a lot. The Cobalt, HHR, and Astra are off her radar, and while she likes the Malibu, shewants to spend around $20-21K MSRP…

So my parts came today and I put the Sierra in the shop, it will be in there for a couple of days. My boss let me drive our parts runner truck home... it's an '03 Ranger, a base model 2.3L 5 speed manual regular cab 2WD in white with gray vinyl split bench seat, a/c, radio... and that's pretty much it. A customer traded it in with very few miles on it, and it's in spotless condition. Driving the little mule made me realize something, once again: driving a slow, basic vehicle can be good therapy. Gone were my need to listen to the exhaust and to look good. It was driving as transportation, in an honest little workhorse. All pretension was stripped away. Do I really…

My new apartment faces the Cedar River and every day I have been watching the flooding going on around here. The road I take to work will be flooded over sometime Monday and apparently levels may reach those of the Flood of '93. Parts of downtown Des Moines are flooded and Iowa City is starting to sandbag. There are stretches of fields along rivers that have become huge lakes in Eastern Iowa. The good news is that after the Flood of '93, a lot of cities built earth berms along their rivers so hopefully if we have another 500 year flood it won't be so devastating.

Please feel free to post your own cool photos /artwork that combines hot people of the XX chromosome persuasion with antique cars, muscle cars, GM classics, pre-war steel and such, but be warned... read the title of the thread, I don't wanna see no import junk. A hot Asian chick is 100% cool, some of 'em are really HOT, but please, NO Toyota Supras, Honda CCVC Si hatches or even European or otherwise non-GM stuff like BMWs.

What an intresting month, General Motors has a less than stellar month thanks to idot UAW workers striking, high gas prices and market heading towards the $h!ter. Toyota manages to push more ugly vanila Camry's than last May. My sons boss took his 2006 Ford F-150 Super Crew FX4 and traded it on a 2008 Honda Accord EX 4cyl. Sedan, lost his ass on the sweet red truck I know. (I can't fault him for getting a Honda my son said to him as long as it isn't a Toyota Ken (which it is not) I wish you the best of luck with it!) So let the rant begin. I can't believe the number of Prius's that keep poping up in my town. Those ugly little most likely slow moving "gr…

Well I was thinking about trading my 2005 Silverado in on a new Pontiac GTO. Probably won't happen but ive been thinking about it. Anyway I need some help with info on the GTO. If I get one it would be a 6 speed manual. Anyone have any idea how strong the clutches and rear ends are in these cars. I wouldn't rip the car around alot maybe once in a while. I just want to know if one of these cars are pretty reliable?

be sure to take a moment today and reflect on what occured on the beaches of normandy today 64 yrs ago, if not for those brave souls we may not enjoy the things we do today. dont just think about the allied sacrifices, the guys on the other side fought for what they believed as well and showed just as much valor. http://www.normandie44lamemoire.com/versio...metieresus.html

I will not be doing a major road trip this year, since I'm using that vacation time to attend a few different weekend gatherings/shows/cruises (about which I've posted); I hope to return to a week or 2-week long road trip in 2009. But ... Saturday, August 9, 2008 ... I'll be in the Pittsburgh/Johnstown/Holsopple PA area for a family reunion on Dad's side of the family. Around that reunion, I will take a "mini road trip" through Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and northern Virginia. I have a TENTATIVE/skeletal itinerary ... let me know if you want to meet up anywhere along the way so that'll help me finalize the itinerary in the next couple …

I want to let you guys in on a little secret. I've come up with a plan (it's brilliant, if I do say so myself), to save a bunch of money on gasoline with my Sierra. I told you guys before, my neighbors have a Yaris. OK, the plan is this: tonight, under cover of darkness (and I'm going to dress in a black leotard and paint my face black to ensure I go undetected), I am going to SWITCH GAS TANKS between my truck and the tiny Yaris. What do you guys think? Huh? It's quite the brainstorm, eh? Instead of $90+ to fill my tank, it might take about, ohhh... $35. KaCHING! Instant savings at the pump! I just wonder how long it will take my neighbor to notice how much mor…

On Jefferson when it turns to Shook there is an apartment complex on the lake. Well theres a fenced in lot of junk and in the corner there is a DeLorean just sitting there it hasn't moved in a couple of weeks. I drive by it daily drooling for it. Its just how do you find who owns it and how do you approach them to buy their car? camera phones suck i know. you can make it out at the edge. I want to almost steal it. it has a sad puppy face on it too like its neglected. The last thing i need is another car but I want it.

What if small groups in a given locale were to form cooperatives to support small scale ethanol production from local feedstocks? Say, for example, a local car club splits the cost of running a small scale facility with paid staff and the equiptment required to produce enough fuel for all of the members on a non-profit basis? Just a thought. :AH-HA_wink: ...at least for now.

Recently have become mildly obsessed with the twilight era for vintage junkyards, which is happening right now. I have developed a small cyber toolbox (GoogleMaps, GlobeXplorer, MapQuest, Switchboard) to gather before & after aerial pics of junkyards across the U.S. Mostly this is to document where they were and their size, but it's also useful to today's scroungers to assess whether a given sight-unseen yard today looks worth the trip. I have gotten adept at recognizing ex-yards from space. Many times these automotive DisneyWorlds disappear when one's back it turned, leaving but a faint scar on the landscape. I've been in about 15 different yards over the years- I …

Not sure why, but I was struck today to grab the camera in the sunny heat and just take pictures of our car conglomeration. Too bad only a few were cleaned, and mine was covered (hah...prepping for the storm that hit soon after), but still interesting. Why? Especially now with gas prices, micro cars, etc., the whole driveway is still FULL of old GM boats, all daily drivers--with the one pretty new face of Malibu just standing out like the Suburban before it never did. Looks almost like land of the lost. First some overalls...and again, why I didn't do this before I put my car cover on, who knows.

So, I just had a thought pop into my mind: Imagine the future of the V8 as this: 4.0L, twin-turbo, SIDI, 500+HP. How, you ask? Stick two 2.0L SIDI Ecotecs together and that's what you have. I don't know if that would work, but it seems plausible enough. It would deliver pretty good fuel mileage as well, I think. Image the other possibilities, too. The same HP/L (130 is what the 2.0 gets, but lets use 125) out of a 3.0L would yield 375 screaming ponies. A 3.5L would make 435HP... and so on... I think you can do the math easily enough. With forced induction being the wave of the future, IMO, I think we could see "big" V6s drop down to the 2.8-3.2L range from the curr…

one word Amazing! This weekend was the Red Bull Air Race in Detroit. It was crazy. They put on a very good show and had much more then just air racing. they had helicopter stunts and sky divers and military aircraft flybys. They had a F-4U fly in formation with a F-18. that takes some skill there. Then the F-18 did a mach .98 fly by. Also had a B-25 flyby. Crazy stuff. I cant wait till next year. Did any of you get to make it? There must of been 200,000 people there easily. Forgot the camera but i will find some on the net and post them.
