I just went over to Edmunds, and for $h! & giggles, I priced out an '09 Aveo5. Here's my option list: 2LT sunroof ABS leatherette seats (vinyl, for God's sake) aluminum wheels rear spoiler $17,635!!!!! That's the most hilarious thing I've read all day! I am so sure they'll sell like hotcakes at that price.

Because that is one foul thing to do, one is busy working, and another thinks that lunch that person brought is fair game to take from the fridge and eat or take home. What kind of people think this is cool? What is their motivation? This disgusts me big time, since those types never own up to it. What are your stories, and what have you or another person done about it?

Ok, here it goes... If you could have one new car and one old bought for you at the same time. what would they be? Catch is, the total of both cars have to be under 50k.... I would go with a 2010 Camaro LT with the RS package, and 69-74 Pontiac Firebird.

That question was asked, tongue-in-cheek, during the 17th Viagra commercial during the Yankees-Angels game on TBS this afternoon. It doesn't bother me that Viagra advertises so heavily during MLB games (no matter the channel) what bothers me is that its the same damned Viva Viagra commercial over an over. Come up with another commercial already!

Even though Olds has been dead for a few years now, I still feel like I see a ton of them on the roads. Today I was driving to work and had an Olds Alero in front of me and an Olds 88 behind me, with an Olds Cutlass a few cars ahead of me in the other lane. Did Olds really sell that many cars in its last few years? Or maybe it is just a regional thing; the former Buick-Olds-Cadillac dealer (now Bu/Cad/GMC) has a pretty large store and does a lot of business here.

Yes, I'm looking for a winter beater right now...but, I'm wondering if I should retire the '87 MC LS from daily status altogether. I don't really want to....but, well, maybe it'd be better. lease is up early fall. I'm thinking about what i want to replace the 500 with. either a people mover, basic sedan, or a sporty vehicle. It would be nice to have an AWD vehicle. Ford has an advantage for me for a few reasons. Dealer is excellent - one price, 2 miles away and its convenient for service and shuttles, even if the car is super reliable. I like Sync. My last 3 fords have been completely reliable and dependable. that said, i am not closing the door on something else. Price and mpg will likely matter and chances are good I will lease again. There is a chance I may just buy a used car too. in fact, the economy the way it is, gas prices, we could …

Not that I really should be looking for another "toy" at this time, but I've seen the following 1992 Pontiac Trans Am Convertible for sale in the last couple of issues of the local Auto Shopper and it catches my eye each time: 1992 Pontiac Trans Am Convertible, 118k miles, black leather, V8, auto trans, $5995 Now I've always liked the 1991 & 1992 Trans Ams (especially the GTA models), so when I find one for sale I tend to at least check it out. I think I'd prefer a T-top coupe more, but for a "toy" car I wouldn't rule out a convertible. Any advice on this T/A? Not sure if I'd do anything about it, but I always like to learn about the cars I like anyway :AH-H…

I'll miss the wagon..... The Cav wagon sold today...it looks like she should have a good home. I sold it to a disabled Vet for a few hundred bucks...and he was thankful for the deal. (So he could make his appointments) He plans to fix her up and drive her locally...so I might see it once in a while... What GM movie car do you like the best- To me it's the Impala ragtop in Boyz in the Hood. What's yours? Wasn't it a Pontiac Grand Am or something in that really wild chase in The French Connection? Also like... The 58 Chevy and 55 Chevy from American Graffiti, the movie Two Lane Blacktop, and theTrans Am in smokey and the Bandit. Non GM car things that were obviously cool were the chase in Bullet, but I loved watching Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry. The ending where the Charger slams into the train I saw when I was like 7 years old and it was my first real taste of movie violence involving a car. That scene has stayed with me for a long time. So, I never did fix my computer. After 7 months, it's gotten to the point where my desktop works most of the time. However, it still has moments when it disappears. I've singled the issue down to the file rundll32.exe. I apparently have some bad .dll files that were added by the virus that my anti-virus software doesn't seem to detect. Specifically, there's one that keeps attacking my Mozilla Firefox and causing it close when it's being run. Before this, I got rid of a bad driver that was causing pop ups. I hoped it was the main cause of everything, but it wasn't. I always figured rundll32.exe was the problem itself, but it's where it should be and is obviously Windows so…

I had never heard of this car, the 1986 Buick LeSabre Grand National: http://www.lesabret-type.com/LeSabreGN.html Exactly What is a LeSabre Grand National? Many do not even know that Buick Division of General Motors produced the Grand National on a platform other than on the Regal but there was a very unique Grand National built in late1985 – the 1986 LeSabre Grand National. 117 (or 112) copies were built to qualify the new, first year 1986 LeSabre FWD Coupe body for NASCAR competition. The main reason for building the 1986 LeSabre Grand National was to get the new body with modified rear quarter windows sanctioned for Winston Cup racing that year. The modified …

Yeah, it was brave-but I ended up with more than I bargined for.... I was coming out of the local Kroger with dinner a few days ago....And saw a purse snatching in progress from a 80 year old lady. I decided to help, and was able to run him down and tackle at the knees. I got the purse back, but failed to realize he had something else in his other hand: A wooden cane (with a metal top) While getting back up, he nailed me twice in the back, and then once more for good measure (I guess) once I fell to the ground). Lucky for me I fell on the purse, so once people noticed what happened, he just ran. And they haven't caught him (I guessing they never will, either) …

Amazing show at the Chesterbrook July Cruise Night. The highlight was a full custom '49 Olds Sedanette with insanely good workmanship. I'm not usually into these but it really was that good. Another car of note was a '37 Buick 8 Super that was an unrestored survivor with that patina that 68 loves so much. I think that there were 4 or 5 First gen Monte Carlos including one phantom SS complete with a Chevelle cowl induction hood molded into the original Monte hood ( fully Functional). Also there was a Nask Metropolitan with a GM v6, a '69 Caprice (unrestored) with 29k original miles, a '70 Nova SS with 21k original miles, a Plum Crazy Hemicuda, an Atomic Orange Zo6, a '41…

By Jeff Burry Pontiac Fiero, 1984-1988 Mid-engine sports cars are not generally associated with General Motors. People are more likely to associate them with exotic carmakers such as Ferrari and Lamborghini. However, the Pontiac division of General Motors produced such a car in the mid-1980s. I bought 50 shares of Ford today @ $5.10, my first trade in the stock market. After the yesterday's earnings tumble (F lost about $.90) and the Ford's outlook the next couple years, I feel like it's a pretty solid investment. I'm planning on buying more soon, and hopefully some GM in a few months after I have some time to watch it. I went through ShareBuilder.com and it's pretty easy to use considering I have no previous experience with stock markets. Does anyone else hold any automotive stock? Or just stock in general?

NEW YORK - Three years after the city banned smoking in restaurants, health officials are talking about prohibiting something they say is almost as bad: artificial trans fatty acids. ADVERTISEMENT The city health department unveiled a proposal Tuesday that would bar cooks at any of the city's 24,600 food service establishments from using ingredients that contain the artery-clogging substance, commonly listed on food labels as partially hydrogenated oil. Artificial trans fats are found in some shortenings, margarine and frying oils and turn up in foods from pie crusts to french fries to doughnuts. Strangely, even though this was a straight up purchase and advertised as such, it's really turning into a merger of equals. Most of my old company's stuff is being retained as it's more efficient and more advanced than the stuff our new mothership has. Most of the workforce is being retained as well. During all of this, I'm doing some fairly big renovations on one of my apartment buildings. Chest pains from stress are now a common occurrence. Yesterday, I was sent a link to failblog.com and I was laughing so hard for so long that my co-workers were getting worried. I felt co…

Unhappy America If America can learn from its problems, instead of blaming others, it will come back stronger http://www.economist.com/opinion/displaySt...ory_ID=11791539 NATIONS, like people, occasionally get the blues; and right now the United States, normally the world’s most self-confident place, is glum. Eight out of ten Americans think their country is heading in the wrong direction. The hapless George Bush is partly to blame for this: his approval ratings are now sub-Nixonian. But many are concerned not so much about a failed president as about a flailing nation. One source of angst is the sorry state of American capitalism. The "Washington consensus" told th…

Do any of you know if there is a non-textbook type of book that shows the complete process of a car's development from beginning to end? I mean everything, the complete dirt. Timelines, how they put together things like the brochures, the owner's manual, the repair manual, advertising, what's the process of having parts etc ready at the dealerships, training, how they get parts suppliers involved and on and on.....I've always wanted to know all the nitty gritty behind the scenes stuff. Ha ha, maybe I am talking about a textbook!

Well, the results looked good. After the beating with the cane I took, there are no serious issues (or broken bone, like I thought). I have some major bruising on the lower part of my back...which should heal in 3-4 months... The part that sucks is that I am no allowed to drive far distances for a while.....so there goes my trip to IL to meet knightfan and other people....that sucks... Sorry, KF-I really wanted to go too.... I had the Cav all ready to go...even bought my little guy an extra pillow for the trip..... *sigh* Well, maybe people can come and visit me.... :AH-HA_wink:

So, my mom calls me at work today. Someone rear-ended her in her Cobalt while she was stopped at a red light. I wrote an estimate for $3200+. Dumbass said he reached down for a pen and didn't see her stopped, along with the rest of traffic at the light. Thing is, we fixed the dumbass' Forester less than 6 months ago, when he pulled out in front of someone and ripped the whole side out of it. We will be fixing his car again, as well, but I haven't seen it because the tow company (they knew where the car will be fixed) DROVE DIRECTLY BY our bodyshop to take it to their storage lot, so they can collect storage... UNTIL MONDAY. When I called the tow company and asked th…

A cousin of mine who is like a sister to me called this evening and asked me to go lot hopping with her. She has almost 100k on her Liberty, and the air conditioning compressor has gone bye-bye to the tune of $700, and with gas prices the way they are, she's maybe looking to replace her vehicle. I'm a huge GM fan. They have showed brillance beyond compare and yet have made some of the dumbest decisions in automobile history. And they have been hugely successful in so many ways...like being number one a lot of years. Many stunning, many dreadful cars and a slew of marketing schemes later, there has been but one shining star in their orbit. Corvette. Clear visionary, purposeful, consistant, ever improving Corvette. Some close calls for sure and a couple of iffy years, but they stuck with the plan. Now, I say, take the Corvette team and put them in charge of GM and change the name of General Motors Corporation to Corvette Corporation. Because no matte…

So on Sunday I was on my way to the store when a bunch of ricers (like 5 or 6) were heading the opposite way toward downtown Lawrence. I thought it was odd but thought nothing of it. Later that day I was driving through the downtown area when I see in one of the huge mill parking lots that there was a car show. I have never seen Lawrence host one, and of course, this one and only car show is almost if not entirely ricers. 5-foot wings and cheesy paint jobs as far as the eye could see. It was disgusting...makes me hate this city even more. However it was all worth it because of what I saw a few hours later. We had a severe thunderstorm that caused flash flooding. Seve…

So... what's your biggest regret? The ones that are 'shareable' (I think I made up a new word, lol) Mine is confiding something private to someone that was not trustworthy and later used what I had said to hurt someone else.

One of the guys at the local electrical supply house just bought a Buick Grand National...for $2500. It ain't pretty. It's got a million Jesus loves you stickers on it, a regular Regal fender for one of the front fenders, the headliner is missing, and it needs paint in the worst sort of way. And it's got rust, but very minor. Also comes with a stack of paperwork that my tape measure says is three inches thick, the motor and tranny have been rebuilt by GOOD local people, the rest of the interior is damn near perfect, and it's a T-top car. Oddly enough, it was ordered with every option, including the upgraded stereo, but no posi rear end. Making me even sicker is…

First off I haven't been posting nearly as regular as I do most days because my family and I went on a trip to the Grand Tetons/Yellowstone and Black Hills/Custer State Park for 12 days. Long story short took the Torrent and she now has over 6.5K on here up from the 2.5K she started out with. Fuel economy was good not great averaged about 23.25 if I figured right. Not bad for 75-80mph interstate running and climbing many a moutain pass. Handling was great for a small SUV and the back roads were very fun. Could use an extra cubic foot or two in the truck area other than that my Torrent made the trip nearly perfect. Except in Cheyenne WY my A/C stopped blowing cold air. I t…

Coming back from a too-short vacation in the Florida Keys, where I went to my 20th HS reunion in my old hometown of Marathon. Had a great time, fun to see how everyone is doing, where they are living, etc. Hot and humid, sunny...had a nice ocean view from my beachfront hotel. Had an '08 Sebring conv. rental, strange car. Odd proportions.. Huge decklid, tiny trunk (the convertible top takes up about 1/2 of the trunk). The operation of the top is slick, no manual handles to release on the windshield header, just one button to raise and lower the top and windows (a bit slow up and down, though). The glass rear window is nice. The plastics are a bit hard and have so…

Aaaahhhh....that fresh, newly-washed look is so intoxicating...isn't it? I finally washed my older 4 Monte Carlos this past Saturday [the '87 MC LS daily driver will get its second cleaning of the year this coming weekend, weather permitting, of course]...partly to have them ready for the July 26 gathering here, in case it IS sunny...but mostly to get the "winter dust" off them. Now, they all just look and "feel" so much better! Sure makes a difference when they are clean; driving them after a fresh wash is a bit invigorating, imho. Hmmm...does anyone else who has multiple cars notice that each car as its own "personality"? It just seems that each of my MCs have a d…

I'm asking anyone here that from time to time goes to junkyards in search of parts for your projects and/or repair needs if you'd be willing to help me out. I'm looking to find a decent condition steering wheel from either a 1955-1956 GMC (preferred) or Chevrolet pickup (1957+ were a different design); if you find a GMC, I'd like the horn button too if it's not too far gone with rust. Here's a picture of the steering wheel I'm looking for: If you happen to be out in a junkyard and bump into a '55/'56 GMC or Chevy truck and that steering wheel pictured above is in good condition, would you remove and purchase it for me? You can PM me to find out the max I could pay…

From Bill Vance of Canadian Driver: July 18, 2007 Motoring Memories: Hardtop convertibles Story and photo by Bill Vance Although true hardtop convertibles are becoming popular now, there were a few earlier attempts that weren't so successful. In the beginning, virtually all cars were convertibles, most descended from open carriages and buggies. Rudimentary canvas tops were normal as carmakers were more concerned with mechanical reliability than passenger protection - and automobiles were rarely operated in the winter anyway. As reliability improved and cars were used year-round there was increased interest in weather protection. Enclosed cars gradually ev…

While watching "Last Comic Standing" tonight, NBC showed two promo spots for a new show starting this fall called "My Own Worst Enemy" with Christian Slater. He plays a duel character - Henry, the average joe, and Eddie, a cross between 007 and an assassin. The second promo showed "Henry" driving in his mundane blue Chevy Traverse, while "Eddie" cruises around in a silver 5th generation Camaro coupe. So NBC is showing both Ford (Knight Rider) and Chevy some lovin' with new fall shows.

As home prices continue to decline and loan defaults mount, federal regulators are bracing for dozens of American banks to fail over the next year. But after a large mortgage lender in California collapsed late Friday, Wall Street analysts began posing two crucial questions: Just how many banks might falter? And, more urgently, which one could be next? The nation’s banks are in far less danger than they were in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when more than 1,000 federally insured institutions went under during the savings-and-loan crisis. The debacle, the greatest collapse of American financial institutions since the Depression, prompted a government bailout that cos…

A used one, anyway - I haven't figured up savings and incentives on new vehicles. According to this article, the resale value of a Chevy Tahoe has dropped by 17% in the last year. Assuming the for-sale price of a used has dropped a similar amount, that extra money buys a lot of gas. A used Tahoe that was $40K last year, according to those numbers, would now cost $33,200. Let's compare that number to purchasing a Lexus RX400h. They're currently selling used for what a Tahoe would have cost last year, about $40K. The Tahoe gets about 17 combined city/highway MPG. The Lexus, 29 MPG combined. Let's say gas remains stable at $4.29/gal (a big assumption, I know). If you d…
