Tell me what that one political issue is that is near and dear to your heart. The one that would get you involved enough to support a candidate on that issue alone. Remember just pick your main one. For me it's Illegal Immigration. Shut down the Southern border of the USA, and I don't care if you have to put a Berlin style wall up manned with soldiers, with orders to Shoot to Kill. Come in the legal way, no problem! Sneak across the border, well then you take your chances with the wall and the guns.

I was a long-time member of this organization and a friend of the award's namesake. I thought that there was enough talented and intelligent people on this site that they could actually win the award. If you have any questions about the award or the organization sponsoring it, post it here and I'll answer them as best as I can (but I'm not on the awards committee, so sucking up to me won't help your chances). Also, you can visit the Society of Automotive Historians' website at www.autohistory.org. Hard day for me, today and yesterday. We laid my grandmother to rest this morning. I so treasure her spirit, her humor and her Old World work ethic, which I inherited and thank her for. Born in Jersey City NJ to recently-immigrated parents, she worked long days in the Black Dirt Region of Orange County NY as a young woman, out in the onion & celery fields, with my father by her side as a young child. Later, she was a long-time factory production worker for Avon. After retiring, she and my grandfather drove down to Florida every winter, fishing and meeting up with friends & relatives. She cooked & canned, she crafted, she golfed, she elevated cleaning to an Oly…

WASHINGTON - Alan Greenspan says the country can't afford tax cuts of the magnitude proposed by Republican presidential contender John McCain — at least not without a corresponding reduction in government spending. "Unless we cut spending, no," the former Federal Reserve chairman said Friday when asked McCain's proposed tax cuts, pegged in some estimates at $3.3 trillion. "I'm not in favor of financing tax cuts with borrowed money," Greenspan said during an interview with Bloomberg Television. "I always have tied tax cuts to spending." McCain has said that he would offset his proposed cuts — including reducing the corporate tax rate and eliminating the Alternative M…

I have been so disgusted by the garbage coming from both major parties (even here in our own political threads), that I believe that I will most likely return to my long-established pattern of voting Libertarian this year. Last time I voted for Kerry (whom I don't like) just because I felt that "W" was such a rotten SOB that we needed to be rid of him at all costs - it was the only time that I have ever voted major party. I just feel that all rationality has evaporated in the shrill partisan bleatings from the dems and the repubs, which leaves me hating the idea of endorsing either with my vote. Not yet an absolute decision, but very, very, close.

I do not know if anybody has used this before, but Synergy, is a software using which you can hook-up up to eight computers to one keyboard and mouse (of the mother computer). No more having virtual desktop, or other LAN based shebang. So as long all your computers are seeing one network, Synergy works fine. I am using it and I love it. What is cool is that the software lets you copy and paste from one computer to other. If you do not have capability of setting up a network, there is a free online VPN known as Hamachi; it is secured compared to other VPN's and the best part is that you can access any of your computers from anywhere in the world so as long you hav…

Assuming that you can start from scratch, how would you formulate a platform for a third party? Just to get started: - repeal the Patriot act - eliminate income tax - legalize recreational drug use - have the next session of congress spend its time repealing laws instead of writing new ones - base the party on the real world expansion of personal freedom in everyday life. ( to reduce the ever-increasing big brotherism of the present). - the party would be entirely " faith blind" with religion not getting a place at the table. A truly secular philosophy of government.

Maybe it's just be, although I know it isn't, but I am getting sick and tried of more and more ads and packaging being in Spanish. At first it was English on top with smaller Spanish below it, then Spanish got bigger until it was the same size, and recently I've seen ads only in Spanish. That really Pisses me off. The first example of this was a several months ago where there were small promotional ads in a store in the soda section that had to do with Pirate of the Caribbean and Coca Cola. There were 4 or 5 of these ads spread throughout the isle and every one of them was in Spanish. Today while browsing Autoblog Sprint just showed a cell phone ad that was exclusiv…

I cut up a potato tonight into french fries. I patted it dry with paper towels while I heated up some Smart Balance oil (a mix of canola, soybean and olive oils). When the oil shimmered in the pan on medium heat, I threw them in. When they appeared nice and brown, I took them out and drained them on more paper towels. For the first few seconds, they were stiff and crispy, but they quickly got limp. I hate limp fries. Can anyone tell me how to make a homemade french fry that is crispy? Thanks in advance.

I grew up with a dog - an Australian Shepherd. I'm still a "dog person." There are some cats where I live and all, except one, are skittish. This one grayish-brown tabby is a friendly little $h!. I thought he had an owner but I was told he does not, though people take care of him by feeding him. He comes right up to you and, if you sit down, it jumps into your lap and wants to be pet. He's a smart one, too...if you scratch his belly, he will grab you with both front paws but retracts the claws so he doesn't scratch you. My dog would do that...you'd tug on her tail, she'd take your hand into her mouth, but NOT bite down. Damn, domestic animals are…

I'm a bit sad, and a bit upset too. I sold the Wagon about a month back, to what I though was a nice Vet (he was very thankful) for him to get around. It's been in there about a week-and want me to pay big bucks to get it (almost 500 bucks) out. This is not the way I wanted to see the Cav go. You figure it will go to it's new owner, and you won't have to see it again (and hope that it was well cared for). I have to go tomorrow to get this sorted out. I was drafted to move a very large item (think boat-sized and boat-shaped) yesterday but didn't do it, so I had to do it this morning. Obviously my Fusion isn't equipped to tow one of these so I had to borrow something. There is at least one Outlook in the fleet, but it was gone today, so I was left with either a Durango (ew!) or one of the dozen or moreTundras sitting there. I'll say this, the Tundra tows easily and rides very well with a trailer in tow.

Has it been 7 years already? I remember I was in NYC at The GM building in Manhattan that day. I can remember how blue the sky was , the smell in the air after the attacks and the dust that seem to envelop all of Manhattan as time wore on. This morning, as I was walking back to the office after taking two totaled cars across the street to our holding yard, I noticed a sweet little car pull up in front of the showroom. A little old man and lady got out and headed for the front door. The car? A 1978 Malibu Classic coupe, gray and silver two tone. I was amazed, but kept on walking. It just didn't register with me that this car was about to be traded in, I mean, who would bother? I admired it from afar and continued with my day. Then, late this afternoon, I happened to be on the other side of our building from where our office is, and there sits the car, no license plate. I am immediately excited and st…

Posted January 14 2008 09:08 AM by Todd Lassa Filed under: New Cars, Motor City Blogman, Toyota, Crossovers, Detroit Auto Show DETROIT - Toyota describes its 2009 Venza as a vehicle for sedan owners who want to move up and SUV owners who want to downsize. It has the comfort of a Camry, the function of a 4Runner and the luxury of an Avalon. And, Toyota neglected to say, the look of a Buick. Why not? Until the American brand's emerging renaissance, pundits called the Avalon "the world's best Buick." For the Venza's premier, Toyota even copied the Buick Enclave's signature…

Last weekend (Labor Day weekend), I cleaned up the '87 MC LS on Saturday ... and then drove the older 4 MCs 120 miles each over the course of Sunday and Monday. Both Sunday and Monday, I "went exploring". Using my detailed Illinois atlas, I mapped out some routes that I had not taken before. And, you know what...it was like I was on a road trip! We've done religion, height/weight, age, ethnicity...why not this? You can only pick one. However, you can define what you think these concepts mean. I once heard: "When you're younger, if you're not liberal, you don't have a heart. When you're older, if you're not conservative, you don't have a head." Also, this has NOTHING to do with party affiliation. Liberal/conservative does NOT necessarily align itself with political leanings. I picked conservative....you know, a Regal with crank windows and 247,000 miles.

Anybody ever bought something off the TV that didn't turn out to be total crap? Maybe it was actually worth more than what you paid for it? I saw a commercial once for a product called the Perfect Pushup, and then forgot about it for a while until I saw it in Wal-Mart for $20. It's probably been the best twenty bucks I've spent; it's durable and I have actually seen results with it. I use it almost every day and had added about 2 or 3 inches to the circumference of my arms and my whole upper body is toned. I've been using it for about 7 months now. Even if it broke …

I haven't logged onto the boards much, if at all, the last few weeks...and it may be a while before I'm back regularly (for various reasons), but it has been an interesting summer...one highlight being the July 26 multi-board/group gathering in Elgin: http://pics.projectmonte.com/album/12498 And, even though I've wondered lately after a rough month of disappointments/frustrations, I still think it IS about the people you meet and come to know.... So...it is kinda cool to read that others seem to agree: http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/courier...ILEY_S1.article It's just too bad more people don't realize this...or realize it too late...instead focusing on detail…

Heard on the radio at 3:30am... (I think it was a commercial with Ted Bruski) ---- The chicken is involved in your breakfast, but the pig... well the pig is commited! BE THE PIG!!! ---- I've rabbel-roused at UPS & got the entire Marlboro Center Chanting: BE THE PIG! I love being a trouble maker... I think next weeks' theme at UPS, will be DI-DI-MAO! I'll have to motivate all my pirate & serial-killer co-workers to chant that as we load packages as if on crack & three gallons of caffeene. (DI-DI-MAO -sp?) means "hurry up!" in vietnamese... Watch the Deer Hunter if you're "lost", there's a gorgeous shot of the nose of a…

PART 1 ... SELECT QUOTES, Ambrose Bierce's "Devil's Dictionary": Arrest = Formally to detain one accused of unusualness Corporation = An ingenious device for obtaining individual profit without individual responsibility Dictionary = A malevolent literary device for cramping the growth of a language and making it hard and inelastic. This dictionary, however, is a most useful work. Electricity = The cause of all natural phenomena not known to be caused by something else. Justice = A commodity which in a more or less adulterated condition the State sells to the citizen as a reward for his allegiance, taxes and personal service. Logic = The art of thinking and re…

Well, through a series of unexpected events, myself and my General Manager from LOR Motorcars ended up with some old friends of his from Plaza Dodge at their lot in Hudson, Florida called Auto Corral. These guys are wholesalers who buy new car trades from big dealers and resell them at the local autctions. For retail, that means we get the cars cheaper and they mostly always good Florida cars. I'm the ISM (Internet Sales Manger) of three stores now - Auto Corral, Sunshine Motors (literally around the block), and AC Motorsports, which has a large inventory of motorcycles, scooters, ATVs and other randomness. Between the two stores, we have over 100 vehicles, including weir…

I got up at 5, my usual time. Clouds were thickening at that point. Later, it began to sprinkle, and the rain has built in intensity all day. It's now windy, dank and thundering, with heavy rain. A perfect day to cuddle and look out the window, if you have a live person or life-like blowup doll with you. Has anyone else been affected by this storm?

the wiki on the "Grumman LLV" says it uses the iron duke and sits on an s-10 platform... why doesn't GM come up with an updated model with say... a 1.8L - 2.2L maybe with BAS model to replace these? I heard that the gov't has a test facility for new models on NPR. this would give GM some sure business and reduce gov't gas waste. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grumman_LLV

I sure do miss my home state. I love the last line of this story! BLUE MOUND, Texas — When two gunmen smashed through the glass front door of her suburban Fort Worth home, Kellie Hoehn didn't think twice. The 34-year-old mother of two grabbed a shotgun that had been pointed at her face early Wednesday, starting a struggle that ended with one intruder killed with his own weapon and another in the hospital. "I wasn't going to let them get to my babies," she said, recalling the moment when she pushed up the muzzle of the shotgun, pointing it away from her children's rooms. Although the intruders told her to keep quiet, she screamed for her husband. She told her 12-y…

Where to begin, well simply at the beginning, this trip had been planned for quite a while. We left Delaware and headed south on I-81 picking it up in West Virginia. Drove the 1st day to Knoxville, TN where my wife's sister lives and where the PCS 1st gave us trouble with the key locking or being grabbed by the ignition. Had AAA come and get the key out, on to Texas the next day. Always like to see those warning signs on I-10, for alligators. Stayed a few days at my mother's in Texas, we had a great visit with her. I seem to miss Texas a little more as time goes by. But wouldn't you know it the key issue reared it's ugly head again in Texas the night before we left, this …

My father brought over some newspapers that they saved from summer 1969 when we landed on the moon (hate to break it to you conspiracy nuts, but the United States did really land there). I though that everyone would get a kick out of some of the ads and prices on cars back then. Get your time machine ready because we could make huge $$ with these: They're having a hard time getting rid of this 69 GTO... I don't know $2995 seems a little expensive for a stick... I've got the fever for a 69 Dodge: There are a few 442's and a couple of other Olds you guys may be interested in: A 54 Corvette, garage kept for $950? Can you do $800? I'll take the '68 I…

So Thursday we had a family trip which involved taking the Grand Marquis and the Intrepid 2 hours from Lawrence, through Boston, to UMass Dartmouth to move my brother into his dorm, as he starts college Tuesday. The plan was to get at least 6 hours of sleep, but instead we spent it watching Batman Begins and packing. We went to sleep at about 2:30am and woke up at 4:30am to be there by 7:30am. We somehow did this, I in the GM and my girlfriend in the Intrepid. Then when we got there we had to wait an hour in a line of cars for our turn to unload, then move it to his dorm and help hims set it up. Then we had to do extra shopping for things he forgot/needed. There was als…

It's amazing the variety of aftermarket wheels these days. Amazing how it affects the look of a car or truck. What are some of your favorites? Surprisingly I'm liking the black ones with silver or red rim. I also like the spidery type as well. I'm seeing this type more and more lately. They look great on big trucks.

This is kind of an odd question and I'm going to be a bit vague initially because I don't want to lead to a specific answer. About two years ago, my cholesterol level had gotten to the low end of what is considered borderline high, so my doctor recommended that I start taking a minimal dose of lipitor daily. I was very hesitant at first because I didn't like the idea of taking anything long term. After a long discussion with my doctor of the pros and cons I decided to go ahead and start taking it while I continued on my fitness program and watched my diet. It has worked out well so far. I take 10mg daily which is half of the smallest pill made. My cholesterol level…

So I was supposed to get a '08 Malibu LTZ with the 2.4L to review yesterday....only....when the guy dropping it off was about 5 miles from my house, a hose blew. Coolant hose I think judging from the smoke and sweet smell the guy mentioned. How the hell does that happen on ANY car with only 6400 miles on it??

I have long wondered on C&G we share alot of our GM car buying pleasures or lack there-of in some case. We also share are like or dis-like with what products they are coming out with and what they could be doing better. My question is ultimately anyone can get on this forum and read this stuff are GM exces reading our posts? Listening to our comments? Or advice? I just always wondered that I understand were "just" customers but GM would be wise to listen to most of the folks around here some more... So anyone have a clue? A mod or regular poster?

Today it was announced by the owner of our dealership... a mandatory 10% pay cut for all employees, in a belt-tightening move. Morale has taken a nosedive. I figure I will lose income very near the amount of my truck payment per month. Our sales are down 30% from last year. It ain't looking good. I am considering dropping my gym membership (only $15/mo) and my land line telephone... along with selling my truck, for real, among other things, just to keep going. If this pay reduction doesn't save enough money for the company, what happens next scares me. I hope Wall Street speculators are happy, driving fuel prices through the roof this summer. The ripple effect of …

I just spent 4 miles and about 4 minutes behind a Toyopet Camry that was blocking the passing lane in a 65mph zone, driving about 65/70 and refusing to yield after several motorists flashed their lights, honked horns & even flipped him off. This stretch of highway is usually flowing at about 85mph this time of day, same traffic flow, and all else being the same. Freightliners carrying gasoline tankers & Mack trucks hauling bulldozers were whizzing by him in the center lane while a line of about a dozen cars is behind this inconsiderate prick. Outrageous.

If Autonews' new future product predictions for GM are any indication, GM is going down the tubes in terms of desirable and unique products. Pontiac's going to sell rebadged Chevys, Saturn is getting products delayed or cut right and left, Cadillac and Buick are never going to turn their images around because they're going to keep old, uncompetitive cars around until they can't pay people to take them, and Chevy gets globalized and attempts to keep afloat by selling cars, not SUVs. Anyways, here is what I would do, knowing that it appears GM doesn't want to cut brands but rather just costs associated with them (see Pontiac being rebadged Chevy's). I'm trying to reduce o…

Yeah, super exciting topic, right? We all went out to brunch last Sunday and she wanted me to drive so I didn't want to pass up the chance (I had not driven it yet). It's an 04 Vue, with about 20k miles on it, that she purchased back in 06 upon our suggestion (yes, she only drives about 2 miles to work each day). I have to say I didn't think it drove that well. It felt slow, the CVT tranny was slightly annoying and anemic and the brakes felt really bad. I actually liked my 98 Jimmy better - which I wasn't expecting at all. I haven't driven a new 2008 or 09 Vue yet, but I hope for GM's sake that it drives better than her 2004. It's interesting, because the old …
