Bettie Page So sad that she passed. A lot of people thought she was already dead, since she basically fell off the map in '58. She was a revolutionary, helped fire up the sexual revolution and gave women the courage to explore their sexuality. Amazing lady and we owe her a lot.

Reading FOG's thread quiet praise for the Cavi and how well it did it's job, got me thinking: What are some good cars/trucks out there that most people may not think so highly of? I could start with a few: 1.)The Cavalier, of course. These cars tend to do pretty well in almost everything... it's kinda sad it was so far behind most of the time.... Pretty much everyone I know (there were a few bad apples) were/are pretty happy with their Cav. I've noticed the engines will easliy outlast the body. I had to finally get rid of my 93 (the 3.1 was still running strong at almost 150k) beacuse it was rusty.... They tend to hold up well to abuse, and are pretty cheap to fix.…

You know I have been thinking about a F-Body 2000-2002 with a V6 Coupe/T-Tops, I really would like a Firebird but found this Camaro at a only 6 grand with 59K! It is maroon (not first color choice my last actually because of my Cranberry SLE) and it has a fixed roof (great) and a stick (even better) and is priced good I think... Plus it is in Milwaukee and only 150 miles from my home. Plus I have family in that area as well... Hmm here is the car tell me what I should do... Keep in mind it would be my sons to drive to school and ours to play with on the weekends. My daughter would get the Impala then... Hmmm it is tempting but if it was white and had Pontiac on it, I prol…

About two months ago I started to get terrible pains on the right side of my abdomen, at first I ignored them as most men would do, but they persisted. I waited to see if they would go away but they only got worse as time wore on. Not being the kind of person that sticks his head in the sand, I took medical leave and decided to come back to the United States to see what the hell was going on with me. I decided to grab the bull by the horns as it were, and I scheduled an appointment with a gastroenterologist (sp?). The night before my procedures, I got the choice of two lovely prep kits to start the ball rolling as it were. The 1st prep kit you had to mix a gallon of cle…

Well, I'll give you the drama, drama version of it.... Many of you remember back in 2005 when I totaled my first Focus. I was sitting in the road and an 18 wheeler doing 45MPH hit me in the rear. I walked away with sore muscles and not much else. Today, the GF and I were carpooling to school. Luckily, I decided to wait for her and just ride with her instead of taking my own car. We get 300 yards from the entrance to school and BANG!!!! I had a bunch of books that I was going to sell back to the bookstore for cash. I sat them on the airbag on the dash and joked (as I have many times with various things) that if the airbag deployed, I'd be toast. Today we were sitting…

So, this Carbon Motors (http://www.carbonmotors.com/) E7 police vehicle is supposed to be built from the "ground up" as a completely new vehicle. So, why doe it look so much like a Chrysler 300?? It almost looks like they got plans for the next, slightly more aerodynamic, 300? Source: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/09/carbon-...-e7-police-car/

So, I guess this may be the part where everyone says something like, "I told you so!" but I have a problem regarding the Rabbit, and was wondering what you all think about the situation. The other night (a bit after 7pm) I was on my way home from work and stopped at a light here in Coldwater. I happened to catch a whiff of burnt oil or the like and of course assumed it had come from another car. But, pulling away from the stop, the clutch take up and response was suspiciously mushy. Later on in the evening out with friends, we all noticed the smell, and upon coming to a stop, smoke came from under the hood! We found a liquid (very light golden colour) softly drippin…

Weeeel, today was the first "major" snowstorm of the year and I went alone to church this morning, so I was driving my G5. You may recall when I purchased it in May. When I was going through the buying process I was also looking at another Impala, the G6 and the GP. Fact is I wanted to go small because it was ultimately just going to end up my brother's car. When I was first looking at said car the window sticker, the build sheet, and a GM vehicle history printout I was supplied with all showed the car was equipped with the Enhanced Traction System, which has two prerequisites. In order to have ETS the car must have ABS and the 4SP Auto transmission. The reason f…

We have a Dog Bar in our neighborhood and they we're offering a $100 bar tab to the best dressed dog (owner, or course) For those of you that are not familiar with a dog bar, it's exactly what it sounds like. A bar, usually mostly outside but sometimes with a small inside area, where you can take you dogs and watch them play while you socialize and have a drink. It's tons of fun, if you're a dog person but don't wear nice clothes on a normal night We dressed our two dogs up and went with a couple of other people that dressed their dogs up. (This is a REAL dog friendly community) Max, our jack russell, dachshund, chihuahua mix, was a rockstar: Obviously, he w…

So, I'm EXTREMELY stressed at work, and have been for a couple of months now. I feel as though I'm being harassed by my new principal, and being untenured, the union is too chicken $h! to do anything about it. My mom is positive I can change my sexual preference. It's just a matter of following God's words. My grandmother has been in the hospital for 2 weeks now, and it's very touch and go, although it looks like she'll get better, but she's not allowed to live on her own anymore. Men on Long Island are very frustrating. I'm tired of game-playing, and I'm sick of the lack of monogamy. I love having people tell me they want a monogamous relations…

Not those balls, pervs. I'm talking sports, as in I'm in a funk because there are no worthwhile sports this time of year. The NFL is a bunch of whiny, overpayed jackasses, and the games aren't really that exciting. College football is dead to me since Mizzou cant seem to beat a halfway decent team. The NBA is worthless, the only good part of the game is the last two minutes, since just about every game is close, but then there are timeouts after every play. I cant watch a basketball game when it goes to commercial every thirty seconds. College basketball doesn't interest me because all the best players are already in the NBA, plus neither Mizzou nor Missouri State i…

Today, six were laid off from our firm of about 65 people. Nobody saw it coming and we were all in shock for most of the day. Our work load has been pretty full lately but six months down the road we will start slowing down very quickly since no new projects are coming in...schools, universities, and businesses are putting everything on hold. If things continue to worsen, we may have a second round of lay offs and that's what makes me nervous, because I'm young and still don't have much experience yet. The partners talked to us today in a conference and said that the lay offs are a precaution to ensure we will be profitable in 2009, even though our work load is pretty…

http://www.proximityhotel.com/ My GF and her classmate's project for architecture this semester was to coordinate with the owner of this hotel (He owns multiple hotels and fronts a foundation for community improvement) and basically re-design a large part of downtown Greensboro NC. Yesterday, we had her final critique at The Proximity which included him, the other big members of the foundation and several key people in the leadership of the city. Of course, as far as we know, everything was theoretical, but it would provide a very good and complete basis if the foundation wanted to move forward with plans. The foundation funded everything, from trips to Greensboro …

What air freshener device do you use, if any? And what unusual ones have you seen marketed? I saw a 'pine tree' with leather scent. Growing up, I remember our car usually had this little hanging wicker basket with a point at the bottom and a tassel. When you opened the lid, you would find lavender seeds inside. It was quite pleasant to the nose. Can there be a more iconic freshener than the 'tree'?

Does your viewpoint on whether or not GM should get a bailout have to do with your love for GM products or do you truly think it will be better for the automobile sector and the economy of 300+ million people? Last night, I was driving home and saw some nice gas prices. I found, at a Safeway filling station, in Northern California (though not coastal), gas for $ 2.52.9 and that was prior to the 3 cent Safeway club card discount. That puts it at a hair under $2.50. That same Safeway, 6 months ago, had gone as high as $ 4.49.9. Looks like I may take a few road trips. What's happening with fuel prices in your area?

Ok, you are in a supermarket or at Costco or in a large office building. You are walking around a corner or going down the aisle and you almost run into / come face-to-face with a person who has a disease which has disfigured them, have been severely burned or subjected to some other tragedy that has markedly altered their appearance. Because of the fact that you were taken off guard and you were hurrying about, you would have ordinarily tried to be very composed, but I think that what happens is that you may make eye contact and then look away a little TOO quickly. You wind up feeling real bad. But you also know that others, in similar circumstances, may have reac…

C&G has been my home on the net for a few years now and it's good to be back. In early October my trusty Toshiba laptop took a fall and died a horrible death, and as such I've been without a computer since then. But my misery of being without a keyboard at my finger tips and C&G before my eyes has come to an end, today I bought a brand new HP Pavilion. Now I'm not a computer savy guy so I'll try to explain the specs as best as I can, it has 5GB memory and a 640GB hard drive, AMD Phenom X4 processor and an Nvidia graphics card. The package also came with a 22'' HP monitor which can swivel and rotate. I'm still trying to get used to it going from a laptop and g…

So today we all went to my bro's house for a late Thanksgiving dinner. While we were waiting for the burned-to-a-crisp turkey to emerge from the deep fryer, some of us were watching Comedy Central, and that ventriloquist dude everybody's talking about was on. One of his puppets started making fun of Prius drivers. My dad and I laughed, I said "gotta love those Prius drivers". My sister-in-law's stepdad didn't crack a smile. His Prius was in my bro's driveway. When I went to leave after dinner and I said my goodbyes, everybody spoke but him. He gave me a dirty look. HA! Also, my sister-in-law's uncle is a self-styled car expert. He was commenting about my Sierra…

the onion is always good for a laugh. PENSACOLA, FL—Harold Enderby's friends say that when he first saw the Navy's televised announcement that the Flight Demonstration Squadron, better known as the Blue Angels, would be holding open tryouts for the first time in its history, the lifelong aviation buff turned to his fellow sanitation workers at Doug's Dugout Bar-N-Grill and said, "Mark my words—I'm going to be a Blue Angel if it's the last thing I do." And this Sunday, that dream came true for an incredible 43 seconds, as Enderby got the chance to fly the famed Blue Angels' F/A-18 Hornet directly into the tarmac during the first day of the Navy's most dramatic—and colo…

Uh huh, so... I went to The Haircuttery to get a haircut. A young, winsome Goth chick I hadn't seen there before led me to her chair and asked me how I wanted it cut. I told her I usually get a high fade, 1 on the bottom, tapering into a 6 on top. Her sweet little face frowned, actually, her whole body sort of wilted. "You don't want me to use the scissors?" That second, I looked down at her backpack on the floor and noticed (with what must have been an audible gasp) a button pinned to it. "Is that Edward Scissorhands?" "Yes", she said, with a bit of embarrassment, and a bit of defiant pride. I shut up. I was trapped. Everything else is a blur. It'll grow ba…

I realize its pretty much the last place on earth anybody would ever go, but has anyone ever been? And on a completely different subject, why cant I find a cruise that boards in New York or Miami, then goes around the friggen world? Circumnavigating the globe on a cruise ship would be sweet. Time consuming, but sweet.

"Please give me a lobotomy, I'll buy a Camry for its superior fuel economy" ------ Okay, so GM is taking a thrashing in the media, all I hear is how much they suck... and yet a few days ago I was in traffic in the M.B., at a red light, nex to a mid-90s MR2 turbo. Made me think. Toyota, the 'Chosen One' the Holy Grail of automotive answers to questions most people have never asked, the mcanufacturer that for some reason gets pro-bono filatio from 92% of all "media" in and out of the Automotive Journalism field... let's recap what exactly they have been doing with themselves in the past decade. The gross MR-Spyder replaced the MR2 and …

Awesome, it will be a 3-day work week...with everyone most likely being "on demerol" the second half of the day on Wednesday, if not leaving early. I'm heading up to the PNW. It'll be a brunch with my Mom on TG Day. I'm seriously thinking of going up to Canada (Vancouver) for the remaining 3 days, seeing that gas is under $2 a gallon. What will you folks be doing? Be sure to be thankful for what you have, as some people aren't in good sorts these days and people in third world countries have next to nothing. Ok, off my soapbox....safe travels! Happy Thanksgiving!

I really want Gran Turismo 4, but they never release the GT series for the PC so scratch that. I was looking around for some PC racing game that have some semblence of realism like the GT series, and came across GTR Evolution and Need for Speed Pro Street. GTR looks like a decent game, but I'm more interested in muscle and production car racing and GTR is basically about high-end exotics and racers. Need for Speed Pro Street seems to have a great range of cars, but it seems to suffer in the realism department. I was watching a video on YouTube of a drag race, and people are hitting quarter miles in 5 seconds with old GTOs and 240SX's. I've only played Need for Spe…

I will miss the QE2. So will millions of others. I sailed on her out of NY going transatlantic once. It's something you will never, ever forget....the tugs pulling her out of the Hudson River pier, passing the WTC and the Statue of Liberty, and clearing the Verrazzano bridge. Last month, she left NY for her last crossing to the UK. She then left Southhampton (England) on Nov. 11 to make her last trip to Dubai where she will become an entertainment venue/hotel. On the 13th, she was in Lisbon...the 14th Gibraltar...the 16th Rome (port of Civitavecchia)...the 17th Naples...and the 18th Valletta (Malta). She will never moor in Europe again, as she heads for Egypt, the …

If we can do "haircut," I can do "pizza." I was just munching on some Spanish olives, thinking about how good they'd go on a pizza. Therefore, my ideal pizza would be: Thin crust....then Cheese Pepperoni Mushrooms Mediterranean garden ingredients such as olives, artichokes and seasonings No granola stuff (tofu), no meats that aren't supposed to be there (chicken, ham) and definitely NO pineapple!

Got into an arguement (okay, spirited discussion) with an Idiot about imported cars at a Pizza resteraunt the other night that made me spit my pepperoni about half way across the room. Clueless guy wanted to argue that the Corvette was an import because Zora Arkus Duntov wasn't a natural born American... What is the dumbest thing you have ever heard in a discussion about cars? This is an interesting quiz that covers a broad scope of American civics history. The link below shows that as a whole, our elected officals score lower than ordinary citizens in this test. I think that speaks volumes for where this country is at today. http://www.americancivicliteracy.org/2008/...al_finding.html The quiz can be taken at the link below. I had 27/33, which is 82%. The average score for ordinary citizens is 49%. Elected officials average around 44%. http://www.americancivicliteracy.org/resources/quiz.aspx

Kinda just a random thought.... but not out of the question. We've all heard of "employee owned" companies, what about many members of C&G owning a large percentage of GM?? I bet we could do considerably better than Kerkorkian! I'm far from rich, but times that by many... Just think of all the combined resources the people of this forum have. Mmmmm........???

Okay.....so I've met someone new. He's a great guy.....this Saturday will be three weeks from our first date. We've been really good about taking it easy, taking each day as it goes....and so on. My question is.....I'd love to just date him, and I'm not interested in meeting anyone else....so how quick is too quick....to ask him to be my boyfriend? Mind you I'm not talking about moving in, getting married, or anything like that....but we've hit it off SO GOOD that I'm ready to start thinking about taking some further steps. I've gotten all good signs from the beginning.....we kissed on the first date, held hands all throughout a movie, cuddled on the couch together…

They did sometimes ahve good articles...but Sport Compact car is dead. http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/21/source-...laying-off-115/ I think the whole Japanese tuner thing is seeming to die down, at least outside of southern Cali. This may indeed point that direction. Chris

Stupid, crappy soda machine at work is at it again. It took my dollar and didn't give me a soda! I kicked it and slammed into it shoulder first. It just sat there, the words "COLD DRINKS" mocking me as I nearly died of thirst.

Remember my Saab 9-3 Aero Convertible test drive from the end of August? Well, it was spurred on by me receiving a coupon in Bicycling Magazine that promised a free bike jersey if I test drove a Saab and got the coupon filled out. It finally came in the mail yesterday: For the record, build quality is excellent with use of high-quality materials throughout. It supposedly goes for $100, but I got it for 15 minutes of seat time in a Saab.

Considering the economic realities of the day, What would you guys think of this plan: 1) My wagon is nearly complete mechanically, and I had intended to do The Mothertruck ('88 crew cab 4x4) next. 2) The Mothertruck has a brand-new 4-bolt main GM engine with only 2 miles on it currently installed and needs mostly paint and bodywork to finish it. 3) I have been planning to use a new Ramjet 350 crate engine in my Camino, but that would cost me as much or more than finishing the entire truck would - in addition to the rest of the restoration the Camino will be getting. So, I am thinking that maybe I should just use the EFI 350 from the truck in the Camino and sell …
