I couldn't find an existing Jan car spotter thread (we really need a single, continuing thread for this topic, like the Word Association one, I think). This morning on the commute down town, sitting at a light at an intersection of two 6 lane streets, I saw a dark green Bullitt Mustang on one side, and a black Challenger SRT8 and white G8 GT opposite...they really stood out, what a great design contrast with the bland, soulless FWD generica and SUVs that clog the streets....

I have a question to ask you guys/gals.. Do you have some good tax tips you could offer? I am gathering stuff in order now (you can never be too early), and I have never been one who gets a bunch back. But with the new baby, I figure that might change a bit.... And on top of that, we made less money this year, as the wife has been out of work caring for the little guy....... And since I cooked my brain this month (been a few rough months), I am hoping to get a few ideas.. And also hoping it might help out others as well.......

I figured with everything going on, this might be a good question to ask. I know quite a few people who normally buy new cars who haved just bought used cars (and an SUV). Has thst stuff going on changed your plans on what you planned to buy? Right now, it looks to be one new/one used. I really would like to upgrade the wife into something bigger (and to carry more of Zack's stuff), so a used Nox, Torrent or Liberty look like good choices..... As for me, A Cruze, Vibe (not sure why, as the wife no longer wants one), an Astra, and Mazda 3 (the new one) are on the current short list....

I wasn't even on the road! I was backing the Sunfire out of the driveway, the HHR was to my left and the van was behind me. I was concentrating on not stalling (because I do that too much) and cut left too soon and my left front fender ran into the HHR's rear bumper. So the HHR's bumper only has some scuffs but my Sunny's fender is all caved in. Do I know how to start the year off with a bang or what!

Finally! I've been at work but mentally away for about 2 weeks, today was finally my last day before taking a ton of time off. Looking back, I'm not sure why I bothered going in yesterday or today, but I did. Today was fantastic because we had out holiday luncheon which took up about 3 hours of my time, add to that leaving an hour early, and I'm feeling all right. Just need to get through tomorrow and Thursday and I'm off the the beach for a week.

Remember Wacky Packages? And beer can collecting? Well, my brother and I had a huge collection of both. For the most part, the collections still exist (my dad pitched a fit at one point and tossed some of the cans). Now, it looks like there is some value to them so I may be putting them all on ebay. It will be a ton of work, but should be interesting.

Now that I'm home for the holidays, my neighbor came over yesterday with a basket full of fresh ripe tomatoes that she brought back from Florida on Friday. Those tomatoes smelled like they do when I pick them out of my garden in July. Yesterday I left my gated community and headed for the Little Italy section of Wilmington and went straight to M. Fierro & Sons to pick up some mozzarella cheese. (Open on Saturdays in December) Today I had a plate full of sliced tomatoes on a bed of sliced mozzarella cheese sprinkled with a nice balsamic vinegar, it was to die for. Link to M. Do any of our dealership personnel here have access to these calendars? I'd definitely like to get one of each, if possible, and I'm willing to reimburse the cost of shipping. Thanks in advance!!

I'm sad to say tonight that I've lost my grandfather to failure of the heart. He'd been in the hospital for six weeks and he had a Valve Replacement Surgery on the 15th of December. As it turns out something went wrong with a different part of the heart after the surgery and he had been on full life support. He began to peter out this evening and I had a Calculus Final at the university until 9PM, I arrived within enough time to say my final goodbyes to a man who has meant so much to me. I suppose if there is a silver lining in his passing, it's that in a Biopsy done during the surgery it was discovered that he had Lung Cancer, and it had progressed to the point where…

Plymouth in it's heyday had huge sales, often in the top three in America. It was sad to see this brand disappear. It was created as an economy division. The name Plymouth is often thought to derive from the landing of the Pilgrims, but what finalized the deal for the name was the very popular, at the time, 'Plymouth Bindertwine'...which most people were aware of. Plymouth went onto great success. Here are some of my favorite Plymouths.

So after wanting a good digital camera for the last three years, I (we) finally got one for Christmas. Jessica and I got it as a gift from my brother and my mother. It's a Canon SX10 IS. Funny thing is it's the same one BV recently got, and even funnier is that it he bought his from the same place this came from: newegg. I love taking pictures, so this is quite awesome. For now I'm just playing with the settings and taking test photos, but what a difference compared to the Kodak. So naturally I've taken one or two.

My cat is fascinated with the bathtub. In the a.m., when I am in the bathroom doing other things, she jumps up on the edge of the tub and wants me to turn the water on at a drip. She then jumps in and walks UNDER the stream, like a little dummy. She always seems surprised when she gets wet that way. Then she asks me to shut the water off, so she can drink without getting splashed. Later, after my shower, she immediately jumps in the tub as I exit. She sits in the wet tub and loves it. Is my cat we todd it?

What does your city / town / state use to clear the roads of snow? My state was all about salt until about 5 years ago when they began to switch to a combination of de-icer chemical and sand. It doesn't do as good of a job of clearing the roads (usually results in a slushy mess that eventually melts away when temps warm), but the combination is supposedly less harmful to vehicle paint than salt. I'm not sure how much I believe that though, because the rocker panels of my '94 Lumina have rusted far faster than my previous '90 Lumina that was mostly exposed to salt.

North Carolina Transportation Museum -- Spencer Shops History of the N.C. Transportation Museum The N.C. Transportation Museum is located on the site of what was once Southern Railway Company's largest steam locomotive servicing facility. J.P. Morgan, Southern's owner, chose the site because of its location midway between the railroad's major terminal points of Washington, D.C., and Atlanta, Ga. Construction of the Shops began in 1896, and they were named in honor of the first president of Southern Railway, Samuel Spencer. During its peak, Spencer Shops employed nearly 3,000 people, which directly and indirectly provided most of the jobs for the towns of Spencer, E…

Just random ones seeing what it can do. I know Dodgefan wanted to atleast see some of these. Me and my camera: Random inside/outdoor, day/night, sharply focused/landscape... and my two Boxers. Some shots using the Macro setting:

Saturn designs, circa 1985. Raise your hand if you didn't know about the minivan. And they thought that it didn't look like a J-Car ... And I understand that they gave a revision of that design you see above to Isuzu. Not sure if that's true, though.

Since we've got a thread going on about how we should let the government control what we eat and tell everyone how much we hate overweight people, let's switch gears to a bit. What's your favorite exercise? My favorite is swimming. I love the water and have always enjoyed swimming, particularly underwater. Back when my girlfriend and I lived in Wichita, the apartment place had it's own pool and we would go their almost every day. Before that we had friend who had a fitness membership at a Windham hotel, and would go swimming fairly regularly. Sadly we don't go anymore. When we move I want a place the has a pool, either that or get another membership.

Going up to Lake Tahoe last weekend, I was able to marvel (for the umpteenth time) at its dramatic beauty. The fact that it could snow at a moment's notice and one would have to chain up put me in an "eh" mood. I was thinking: "there's no way I could live up here." Today, I was cleaning up and looking at post cards I collect. The common denominator: at least 95% of them are beach or port scenes. Besides, granolas and ex-hippies take refuge in mountain towns. They don't gravitate to the beach as readily. That being said, if I had to pick "beach" or "mountains" to hang my hat year round, it would be "beach." What about you?

Linkypoo Discuss. Personally, I like the measure and think we'll see it expand to more states. If parents are going to let their kids get fat, might as well make them pay. I wouldn't even complain if it were to effect energy drinks or coffee-based drinks, which I drink more often than soda.

I like trains and I like history, so I found this story to be interesting. Plus I've lived in this area of the country for years. I also have ridden the Amtrak train to Washington quite a few times in my life. updated 11:17 a.m. ET, Sun., Dec. 21, 2008 ABOARD AMTRAK 181 NORTHEAST REGIONAL - The centuries-old right of way between Philadelphia and Washington is marked by shimmering waterways and industrial sprawl, well-kept suburbs and urban blight. President-elect Barack Obama won't be sharing a ride with thousands of long-distance commuters when he travels on a private charter train from Philadelphia's 30th Street Station to Washington's Union Station on Jan. 17, t…

Here are the rules of this thread-post a link of a GM (only GM, Sorry boys) car for sale in your locality and tell why you like it. I get to go first... http://www.arenamotor.com/listings/l0005.html I like it because 1. Its a 4 speed 2. it's a great color combo 3. I've always had a soft spot for chrome bumper C3's 4. It's a driver and hasn't been resotred to within an inch of it's life as a trailer queen 5. The top goes down! 6. Orig. drivetrain 7. It just has "the look" if you know what I mean... Your turn, guys (and GMpartsgirl). Respond as to what you like or don't like about this car..or post a link to a car in your area. Oh, and Sixty Eight they have on…

Its finally winter weather time. Its about 40 and windy after a rainy day. Tomorrows high is supposed to be 39. Going out anywhere is absolutely out of the question, cold weather puts a damper on just about everything. So we're coping the best way we know how, a fire going in the fireplace, some pizza and, soon enough, a viewing of Anchorman, because it remains the best movie ever made. Is there any better way to kick off 6 months of cabin fever?

Stopped by a Delaware State Police Sobriety/Safety Check! How I've missed the Patriot Act! Living in the European Union I've forgotten what a police state the USA has become. State Police - I'm officer blah blah blah, we are conducting a sobriety/safety check! Me - Ohh? State Police - Yes, have you had anything to drink tonight? Me - Yes. State Police - What were you drinking? Me - Water. State Police - Looks to see if I have my seat belt on and then asked, Where did you just come from Sir? Me - How is that question related to a sobriety/safety check? State Police - Face gets bright red. Then asks Where are you going to Sir? Me - Again, How are thes…

Never really thought I'd be posting this, but I saw my first Genesis last night at a "Bistro" here in Houston. It was backed against the valet parking wall (along with all the other nice Toyotas, Lexus', Infinitis, Bimmers, etc, hahahaha!) and I could see it outside the window we were standing by. This is a bad photo - it was taken at night with a camera phone, but you can tell what it is. I couldn't help but think as I stood by the window more or less inspecting this car; how in the world did Hyundai pull this off? Hyundai, maker of copy cat, lackluster Korean cars with a somewhat laughable reputation in America, has designed a rear wheel drive V8 luxury sedan (tha…

Toyota was ahead of the times even back in 1983 with its DIESEL pick-up. They even have a macho cowboy in it doing a cheer leading jump. This thing reminds me of the Tundra only better looking. I can't imagine what a modern Chevy Silverado 3500HD could do to this thing? Maybe run over, eat it for a snack or maybe tow about 10 of these behind at 90 mph? Hmmmm... For those of you so interested in watching... TOYota DIESEL pick-UP

Just Saw this Clip on Jay Leno's Website about his 1967 Imperial Crown Hardtop and how he came about owning it... Figured I'd share it with you guys in case anybody hasn't seen it. I think the video really captures why I like these 1960s Imperials better than the Cadillacs and even Lincolns of their day. My dad had a Chrysler Newport Hardtop Coupe of this era and he loved it. http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/video/video_...html?vid=218789

Do any of you look forward to CES this next month? I always look at the mobile audio stuff, mainly headunits, pioneer. the TV stuff will prolly be good I am excited about AMD releasing the Phenom II and the AM3 platform. there are reports/data that shows the 920's hitting just under 4Ghz OC'd on air on the 790GX chipped mobo's. the 940's are BE running at 3ghz stock, the 920's are supposedly 2.8ghz stock. i don't expect to see any SED tv's this year, but might be surprised...? you looking forward to anything?

This is a great documovie and it makes me miss when the guys ran real cars or had some sort of personality that was different from corporate smiles. If there was emotion and personality in NASCAR it would be better today in my opinion.

So we had a pretty major winter storm here in New England last night. It's been crazy weather. Last weekend the temps were in the 10's and 20's, earlier this week they were almost 60 with one storm. Temps dropped back down with this storm that just passed over us, giving a good chunk of New England one of the worst Ice Storms in recent history. Apparently much of the area is without power, although we're lucky and still have it. Here's some photos from this morning. I'll say this: ice is dangerous but it sure looks pretty.

Wrapping Christmas presents sucks. I'm terrible at it, everything looks bad, but I really dont care since its going to end up all over my living room floor anyways. My brilliant plan (which was rejected) was to put everyone's gifts in their own pile, put a blanket or tarp or something over each pile then let everyone pull the cover off to reveal all their gifts at once. But no, everything has to be wrapped individually. Buckets of Lincoln Logs and sleeping bags are really hard to wrap.
