My retirement papers from GM have been signed and submitted, they take affect March 31st, 2009 at COB. I start officially with BMW on May 4th, 2009. With my sick and vacation time I have, I will be paid until June 15th, 2009 by GM. 20 years with GM, so many memories, so many thoughts, I struggled with this decision for many months, with long sleepless nights, it was not an easy one for me ... I will be 40 in June, here's to another happy 20 years at BMW ...

Yes, my furry idiot has blue feet. I have no idea how this happened, and I'm not sure I want to know. I had just gotten back from picking up some food with the wagon (Arkus went along for the ride), when I let him out of the car and took my dinner inside. Zora wanted to eat so I let Arkus stay outside for a few minutes. Big mistake. He went through the invisible fence and was gone. Spent an hour looking, only to get a call from the cops that a neighbor had him. So I went and picked him up ( and got another annoying lecture from another annoying do-gooder). When I let him into the house I looked down and saw that his feet looked odd. In better light, I could see…

Finances dictate that we consider a small, fuel-efficient vehicle if we go new (depending on the incentives GM offers and if I'm part of the pull-ahead program with my lease this month). Feel free to post your explanation after you vote, if you'd like.

ILVTOFU. Does that seem obscene to you? If it does, you might want to apply for a job at the Colorado Department of Revenue (DOR). When mother-of-three Kelley Coffman-Lee requested this combination of letters for a vanity license plate, she was turned down. While Kelley wanted the world to know just how much she loves tofu, the DOR saw it as a profession of love for something else entirely. "I-LV-TOFU" was deemed too risque, the DOR thinking it could be misinterpreted as "I-LV-TO-F-U." Coffman-Lee is a vegan, and as she puts it, "I'm very expressive. I'm anti-fur, anti-rodeo, anti-circus when they come to Denver, and I thought, 'Here's a chance to be positive and say …

I dont like being awake for 20 hours at a time. In fact, I become a real bitch at about 19 hours. Thursday I was up at 4am, didn't get to bed again until almost 1 Friday morning. Then I was up again at 7 Friday morning, here it is 4:30 Saturday morning and I'm still awake. I should be able to reset this weekend and get back into a normal rythm starting Monday when classes start back up. If I dont, I'll be a freaking zombie, sustaining on nothing but energy drinks.

THE SEXES Paid To Do It, But Fails To Make His Friend's wife Pregnant After 72 Attempts In Stuttgart, Germany, a court judge must decide on a case of honorable intentions in a situation where a man hired his neighbor to get his wife pregnant. It seems that Demetrius Soupolos, 29, and his former beauty queen wife, Traute, wanted a child badly, but Demetrius was told by a doctor that he was sterile. So Soupolos, after calming his wife's protests, hired his neighbor, Frank Maus, 34, to impregnate her. Since Maus was already marrried and the father of two children, plus looked very much like Soupolos to boot, the plan seemed good. Soupolos paid Maus $2,500 f…

Well everyone around C&G knows I have thinking about another pre-owned GM car, I started thinking late 90's N/A Bonneville SSE, 02-04 Seville, 00-02 Firebird, then went onto 06-07 Monte Carlo's and now I have come full circle to the Cobalt/G5 and Aveo5/G3. For all the folks wanting to drop cheap shots at this boring FWD 4 cylinder economy cars, don't post! If you have a positive or constructive comments please post. I am really considering a new small GM car due to the tax write-off (a good idea from the White House) and want to help GM out again. I have been really considering the Aveo5/G3 (09 models only) and was wondering if I have gone crazy, going from a large ca…

So the other day I had to stop for gas on the way home from DC. Trying to mind my pennies, I stopped at a 7-Eleven gas station and put about $20 in the tank of the Bonneville. Fast-forward to Friday, and as I'm driving to DC that morning/afternoon, my SES light comes on. Code: P0404, which is an EGR malfunction. So I'm like "aw crap" since I still have a pending SES light in my wife's Maxima that I need to get taken care of before we move in June. I'm looking up the code on the Internet to see what's required to fix the issue. Then I get a bright idea... how about I get gas from a real station? I fill up at a BP on the way home, and voilà, no more SES light on Sa…

I wonder what's up with that? I've been on a hockey kick lately, so I decided to pick up NHL 09. (for ps2) I've played quite a bit of NHL 07, so I knew what to expect. 09 was a disaster, loading for anything took forever....so I gave up and got NHL 08. 08 is close to 07, so figured it should work fine. It works much better, but it freezes up during games ( I have yet to finish one) I know I had issues with the slim, and I even blew the dust out. It plays WWE wrestling, Nascar, and kingdom of hearts fine. I haven't tried 07 yet, but I will. Should I expect these games to freeze up?

Hey gents and ladies (where's gmpg these days?) I'd like to think I'm fairly smart, but I'm always a "late adopter" (marketing term) when it comes to technology, for the pricing and for me to "get over" my lack of understanding the new technology. (Duh, I bought a 3800 OHV V6). That being said, I'm using my tax refunds to buy new hardware. Some brief questions: 1) Are the HP Pavilion desktops with Intel Dual Core or Quad Core reliable machines? Any pluses or minuses? What kinds of limitations to their use could I encounter by limiting the size of the hard drive or RAM? (I will not be getting a laptop, though my friend says they're ideal for a coffeehouse person…

I've got a tree in my backyard that I absolutely hate. Its a crabapple tree and I want it to die a slow, painful, torturous death. I will have to pay all towing fees and such which doesn't bother me. normally this would go in the auto show section but mpls is not a major show so its basically like going car shopping, but i thought i would post some observations. more people read the lounge anyways. it was a really scaled down autoshow. no concepts hardly and not much for glitz in displays. nearly no models. GM in particular was next to nothing. it really made the GM portion look sad. Gave the impression that GM is dead. on the whole, it was a ripoff for 10 bucks admission and 10 bucks to park, but fortunately, Ford and Mercury each will be sending me 50 buck gift cards after a test drive. that will make it pay off. comments......

Arkus met me at the door again this evening when I returned home from work. This time, he not only escaped his crate, he dismembered it. I have no idea how to contain him now. Clearly, no crate can hold him. Fortunately, Zora was safely locked in my bedroom so no violence this time. Unless you count the crate. Arkus broke half a dozen welds and twisted the reinforcement rods like pretzels. After making a hole big enough, he pushed the heavy pressboard "floor" I just installed out of the crate far enough to again escape through the small openings in the bottom. All of the chains and huge C-clamps are still in place, and the crate is still chained to the cast-iron…

Classified documents compromised in 103 countries, researchers say TORONTO - A cyber spy network based mainly in China has tapped into classified documents from government and private organizations in 103 countries, including the computers of Tibetan exiles, Canadian researchers said Saturday. The work of the Information Warfare Monitor initially focused on allegations of Chinese cyber espionage against the Tibetan community in exile, and eventually led to a much wider network of compromised machines, the Internet-based research group said. "We uncovered real-time evidence of malware that had penetrated Tibetan computer systems, extracting sensitive documents from t…

It probably ticks me off more than any other aspect of the current automotive industry. I HATE 4-doors! Why must every damn car have four freakin doors? I would choose any other bodystyle over the bland sedan, it is absolutely lame that so many cars are only offered in that oh-so-boring form. Over the past few decades, we have lost so many opportunities to have had interesting versions of cars that restricted to sedan-only form. Imagine what a b-body Impala SS coupe and convertible would have been like. Or more recently, a G8 Coupe ( or wagon , or convertible, or the ST) could have given me an option other than the nuclear one I've chosen. But no, all w…

Tesla Model S: $50,000 EV sedan seats seven, 300-mile range, 0-60 in 5.5s It's been a long and difficult road, but Tesla Motors has made it to unveiling No. 2. After a lot of hype and delivery of 250 Tesla Roadsters, the company's Model S was unveiled today in Hawthorne, California. Tesla was incredibly careful about not leaking a lot of information before today – designing the Model S at a high-security rocket facility helped with that, but we still got a peek a few hours ago – and now that it's here, we love what we see. As for new information on the Tesla For The Rest Of Us (sort of), follow the jump for all the details and check out the gallery of high res photos…

So, you've created automotive life in the other thread, lets perform some automotive abortions. Hummer H2-I hate them and the people who drive them. Tools. Pontiac Grand Prix-Its ugly, handles poorly AND has a cheap interior with almost no back seat room. Why bother? Saturn Relay-How many minivans does GM need? The Terraza is somewhat more upscale, so one of the other three has to go. Chevy is the "Full line" brand and Pontiac deserves the SV6, so the Relay goes bye-bye. Chevrolet Monte Carlo-Do people still buy these? FWD coupes are dead and if they make it RWD then there is no need for a Camaro and since you're all Camaro humpers, I s…

So after sitting at the shop for over a week, they finally looked over the Intrepid. For those of you who don't know, it's been parked in the driveway since late November, when on our way home we could hear the timing chains contacting things they shouldn't because they were so loose. So it rested quietly for the winter, besides when I went out to start it, until I could get it fixed. I got a call around 2 telling me to come down to the shop. What they showed me was that the oil was milky...which meant that the headgasket had failed. How long ago it failed I'm not sure, but odds are it's been long enough to do damage. This, coupled with the fact that it needs timing cha…

So I think it's finally time to upgrade my computer. I haven't done anything to it since I built it after all, and the 7950 GX2 is showing its age. I've been shopping around lately for a good replacement that $200 or under. EVGA 896-P3-1262-AR GeForce GTX 260 Superclocked Edition 896MB Seems to be a nice combination of performance and value. However I'm open to other options if anyone's got some to recommend, since I'm just shopping around at the moment.

Suggest a name for my blog. It obviously must be car-related.

Thanks to the Internet Archive Wayback Maching you can see C&G over the years. Not every thread works, but you can see back to when I objected to the Cobalt name because it seemed like GM just went through a Crayola box. I still feel that way.

I'm about to get a promotion with a decent increase which got me wondering, about the income of others. What income group does the C&G attract?

when the fart can mufflers started appearing in my town i was less than happy. most were heavily made fun of to the point of no return but the fad... i mean performance realizations took place and they got a foothold. whilest watching one of my relaxing shows that makes me feel better about myself in everyway ( the smoking gun presents on tru tv) i saw a video clip of a muffler shop that is welding pieces of flat metal with a hole in them into the exhaust tips of cars. how stupid, and of course not one person interviewed for the positives of this "modification" which they claim is for decoration, btw the last time i looked at a decoration it was pretty silent, has one shr…

Ok...so as it happens I came across someone who is parting out their `99 300M. He says the motors good and only has 30k on it (not sure if that's the car or just the engine yet). He said he's willing to negotiate a price for the whole car minus what he's parting out. What I want to know is what is a good price and if it's worth the effort. It's located RI, so it means 2-3 hours to drive down there to look at it, 2-3 back. The problem is getting it back if I were to buy it. I don't know what tow rates are but I image that would cost a lot. Junkyard is offering me $650 for a complete engine drop...I have to go down and look the engine over still. So the question is…

I guess the first question should be: Do you listen to radio much anymore? With the advent of CDs, satellite radio, iPODS, etc., virtually everyone can create their very own radio station, personalized with no commercials. This means that the "basic" radio stations, especially those that have to air a lot of commercials, are losing listeners. For me, one who loves radio, that is kind of sad...especially since it is kinda cool to hear an older song on the radio that brings back memories, even if the whole world has forgotten. Yeah, it's cool to hear it on the iPOD, too, but when you hear it on the radio, you KNOW you aren't the only one hearing it at that given tim…

While I was out working today, Arkus pulled his Houdini act and got out of his crate. There was a terrible dogfight, and now I have two injured dogs. Zora really got the worst of it. Now I have to decide which one will be leaving, and figure out how the hell I'm going to make that happen. F'ing hell!

It happens every year, baseball starts, I think my Cubs are going to have a great season, I end up getting boned. But this is the year, GO CUBBIES!! I've been getting more into college baseball as well, been to a couple of games so far, its a great atmosphere, even with only a couple hundred people in the stands. Oh, and I hate Joe Morgan with an unyielding passion.

well after 4 faithful years of service my systemax is getting ready to bite it. it has the computer version of being senile and difficult to wake in the mornings. after 30 min of tinkering i finally got it to pass the boot screen (i think the faulty usb port card had somethin to do with it). the power supply acts funny as well when you turn it off. anyhoo i got this last one from tiger direct which i had heard great things about... my experience with them was less than stellar. ordered a tower and a monitor only to get just a monitor in 2 weeks. waited a week and nothing ever came. called them and the tower i had ordered was discontinued 2 days after the order. actually j…

Hey, guys (and gals). I thought I would drop a line and say hi (for those who care) just to say that I have not dropped off the face of the earth - just the face of the northern hemisphere. I don't need to tell any of you regulars how bad things are for GM in North America. The dealer where I worked for almost 10 years closed its doors a year ago and I was forced to jump ship. Being a loyal Chevy fan, I joined another old, established Chev dealer in Toronto - and boy is that a dying breed. Things were going great through the summer, and then when GMAC cancelled leases (43% of my portfolio in 2007), coupled by all the bankrupcy news in the Fall of last year - well,…

My son was getting extremely rambunctious (probably the first 2.5 year old to ever be that way) so I pulled out his gigantic Hot Wheels collection. Barely a peep out of him since, he's on the office floor playing with all the cars, occasionally making "Vroom, Vroom" noises. His favorites seem to be the Plymouth Prowler and BMW 850ci. Most of "his" Hot Wheels are my old ones, including what appears to have been a Citation hatchback that I de-roofed at some point.

That epiphany is this: Australia knows how to build a better American car than we do. These videos from Top Gear Australia only prove that point. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eHZhsF8hwI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTjV3EeFrf8 I have to wonder, where are our bold, brazen Chevelles, Impalas, and Novas? Australia has the Commodore and Falcon that openly embrace the American muscle car values that we desired so long ago. Sure, we have the Commodore here as the G8 and it's a great car, but we don't deserve it. The average, stupid, fat, lazy American doesn't understand what a car of the Commodore/G8's magnitude represents. And that brings me to another point: since …

If you were offered a 2005 bottom-of-the-rung compact vehicle with 10k miles in your price range would you be stupid to continue to look at an 8 year older vehicle with not nearly as low of mileage? Now, the first vehicle is pretty far from what you're looking for. The only option it has is for an automatic transmission, which is an option better left unchecked in your opinion. Crank windows, not a power amenity to be found, and its about as exciting as watching water flow by. It does have a good engine, even if the exhaust note has your Hoover vacuum confused. It doesn't really have any bad reputation, it's mostly average. The second vehicle is what you've been look…

Read this scenario then answer the poll above. I’ve found myself doing this a lot lately and wanted to know if anyone else has this affliction. You are in traffic. A car is looking to get into traffic from a parking lot, side street, etc. in front of you. If the vehicle is a foreign car, do you pull up as close as possible to the car in front of you and huff under your breath, “I’m not letting you in Mr. Honda/Toyota/Acura/Audi/Hyundai/etc. driver!” Do you find yourself more open to letting in a GM, Ford or Chrysler product? It may be weird, but since I spend a lot more time in traffic, I tend to be more courteous to those who drive Domestic vehicles. I am not r…

Woo hoo! I have another "medical procedure" in my future.... At the NMCOA Mini Meet in Stillman Valley IL, September 27, 2008, I didn't eat lunch and spent the entire late morning/early afternoon walking around and chatting. Late that afternoon, I suddenly had an excruciating pain right above my belly button; that area of my skin was tender and a "bump" of sorts was visible. I chalked it up to no lunch and too much walking around. So, I sat in my '87 MC LS/CL and grabbed a snack and a mint. The pain subsided within 15 minutes ... and I forgot about the incident. That is ... I forgot about it until Wednesday night, February 18. I had just finished watching "That …

Craigslist Chrysler ad As seen on Jalopnik. A very strange Craigslist ad.. From Craigslist: I believe the car originally belonged to my Aunt Betsy, who was born in Wisconsin in 1931, and later migrated to California in 1954, while engaged to my Uncle Talbert. She had a Tabby cat named Blinky, who died in the spring of 57. Blinky had 6 kittens in 1955, all of whom she regrettably gave away at a fair in Modesto. The cats where never seen or heard from again. Betsy left Modesto in 1963, approximately at the time she allegedly helped purchase the car for her lover, Benson, whom Talbert was unaware of. Unbeknownst to Betsy at that period, a second Tabby cat, also nam…
