DF brought up this point and I figured I would look back and see how many accidents there really has been. I'm going back until 2000, or so. There weren't many before then, not since my parents, aunts, and uncles were younger. It's mostly my generation that's had issues. -My cousin Josh's first wreck, spinning into a tree with his Firebird back in 2000, a few months after getting his license. -My cousin Josh's second wreck involved rear ending someone with his jacked up and modded Ford Ranger. -My Mom's first wreck, when she slid into an embankment and a bridge with her Grand Am in 2002. -My cousin Andy wrecked my Grandma's Sunfire in 2003 or 2004, the fir…

Is this REALLY what everyone is so excited about? Is this REALLY 'markedly' better than the domestics?!?! LOL... What a scam!!! I mean, I know the Corolla is no star and it certainly isn't top of the class. But people buy them in DROVES only to think that they're somehow a superior offering to GM/Ford/Chrysler. I guess perception really is everything. The entire car screamed *CHEAP!!!* to me... I mean, talk about a sea of hard, mismatched plastics! Even the design and layout looked like something out of Fisher-Price. Gawdy buttons and Rubbermaid controls... A sea of gray on light gray with little or horrible texture. Fake woould that looked like it had been airbrush…

Fallen on hard times --- but it feels good to know that milk and honey's just around the bend. Running on bad lines --- we'd better run as we go, Tear up, tear up the overdraft again. Oh, dear Prime Minister --- it's all such a mess. Go right ahead and pull the rotten tooth. Oh, Mr. President --- you've been put to the test. Come clean, for once, and hit us with the truth. Looking for sunshine --- oh but it's black and it's cold Yet, you say that milk and honey's just round the bend. Giving us a hard time, my friends handing us the same line again. Fallen on hard times --- and there's nowhere to hide Now they've re-possessed the Roll…

I heard this song the other day on TV or somewhere and it has been bugging me that I can't figure out who sings it. I have no idea what the lyrics are except that there is a male vocalist that goes "do - do Do DOO" repeatedly in the chorus, while a guitar is plucked. It's a very slow, mellow song...it reminds me of summer. I'm guessing it's from the 70s by the way it sounds, but I really have no idea. I'm pretty sure it has been used in one or more movies before.

Well it looks like he is back, that is right Tony Stewart will be back behind the wheel of a true American Icon a Chevrolet Impala SS. After a two year run over with Toyota he will be back to a GM vehicle. I am thankful and happy to hear this good news. Tony Stewart in a Toyota just wasn't right. I found out on Chevrolet's website with a link to win his 2009 Silverado! Here are a few links explore for yourself. This is good news when all we have been hearing is bad lately. Tony Stewart's Website TEAM CHEVY WELCOME BACK TONY I am mad he left and I don't really care much for Nascar expect I love Dale Jr. but what do you all make of this news? I knew Tony in a Toyot…

With things looking rough, everybody is looking for ways to cut back. At this point, even our cars will be affected... I've started a few things.... Cheaper oil and air filters (gotta love private brands-both are made by Wix) Changing my own brakes and rotors (something I have not tried yet) I got lucky and found some good deals on wax (mothers) to clean them up. I'm trying hard not to cheap out on the cars....gotta shop smarter. Is there anything you guys are doing on cutting back?

MEXICO CITY – A new swine flu strain that has killed as many as 68 people and sickened more than 1,000 across Mexico has "pandemic potential," the World Health Organization chief said Saturday, and it may be too late to contain the sudden outbreak. The disease has already reached Texas and California, and with 24 new suspected cases reported Saturday in Mexico City alone, schools were closed and all public events suspended in the capital until further notice — including more than 500 concerts and other gatherings in the metropolis of 20 million. A hot line fielded 2,366 calls in its first hours from frightened city residents who suspected they might have the disease. …

I have too many computers and not everything organized correctly. But while I was thinking of a couple of past road trips from my last post, I thought I would post a couple of good pics I had on this machine. I really miss my Z28 a lot. That was hands down one of the coolest cars I ever had the pleasure of owning and driving. I had the car about 9 months or so and had a week off so I decided to take a road trip to Denver to see my cousin. It was one of the first big road trips I took by myself (stopped in Lubbock to stay with a friend) - and it was certainly very memorable. I got to the New Mexico border and had to stop to take this shot. God I loved that LS1 V8…

Well I am really busy until nearly mid-June and so nothing will most likely happen between now and then but... I am thinking Cobalt/G5 Coupe with a 5spd. or a 2001-2002 GP GT Coupe. First off I think I have found basically exactly what I want, it has been for sale since early April with no offical price reduction yet. (Still same high price it was listed at.) It is a 2001 Pontiac GP GT SE Coupe in Silver with only 50K on the clock and is in very good shape (at least from the photos). I really do like the car and all the "special edition" extra's on it, problem it is nearly 500 miles away and about 1,500 more than what it is actually worth. I have emailed just to ask a few…

Agreed... I may come across as a merciless bean-counter (to an extent I am one, at heart and in training in the context of the Accounting and Finance weighted Commerce degree I'm currently going for) but I have feelings beyond the rational in this situation. My family has bought GM almost exclusively as long as they could afford cars. I have a special kinship to Pontiac and other GM brands, and have had for most of my life. I taught myself to read at three and a half on 1993 & 1994 Model Year Cadillac, Oldsmobile and Pontiac Brochures. As I grew up I learned to appreciate the 1990s and early 2000s GM fare that kids my age simply didn't aspire to. I lusted after…

Go ahead pick you favorite one or two cars. Try not to select more than three! Keep in mind my needs, has to have a nice size trunk, good performance (think like my SLE, good), can be driven for fun on the weekends and also driven to school/work by my son or I during the week, should be a good car with few expensive repairs, oh and it must be GM. If it isn't on the list it isn't being considered! 2008-2009 Cobalt XFE Coupe... I really like the fuel economy and the fact that it has a nice trunk and is a 5spd is a bonus. If I got one I would wish I had a G5 anyways. 2008-2009 G5 XFE... Same as the Cobalt but way better looking. 2001-2002 Grand Prix GT Coupe... A…

A while back I think I posted a question about the automatic locking feature...basically mine stopped working and I wanted to know why. I never bothered to get it fixed, and lived without it. I was browsing through my owner's manual today and came across information about the headlights. Basically you can program them to stay on for a minute or so after you turn the car off or disable the feature. It got me thinking....I wonder if the automatic locking system is programmable? Sure enough, you can enable or disable it. So I followed the instructions and sure enough they work again. I just don't know how they were disabled in the first place. Oh well, nice to ha…

Saturday, I cleaned up the Cobalt to take some pictures. As I was driving around town, I noticed another Cobalt behind me, driving a bit aggressively. I came to a red light, and it pulled up next to me. I took a quick glance, it was a Blue Granite LT four door with a young Latin driver, windows down, sunroof open, blasting his music. I sat quietly, eyes locked on the traffic light. When it turned green, I laid a major patch of rubber and caught second gear. Next red light, I'm in the turning lane, he pulls up next to me, salutes, grins and says "all stock?" I said (a bit amused) "yeah". He looked at my clean green car with the new rims and said "beeeautiful..." I…

I'm looking for a new place to live and went to see a condo the other day. The landlord, Sanjay, has quite a nice place. The first problem was the price. His ad said $1249. When I got there, there was a surprise $150 home owners association fee. Almost every other place I've seen, the owner pays that fee. Sanjay wants to pass it on. Whatever, strike one. Now the BIG problem. He starts asking me if I'll be living there alone or will I be living with my "fiance or girlfriend." In the 10 mins or so I talk to him, he brings it up 3 times and always uses the words "fiance or girlfriend." The way he said it felt like he was fishing...basically to make sure I wasn't gay. Maybe…

You'll laugh, you'll cry - you'll kiss 18 minutes goodbye! I've lived in the Houston area since I was in junior high (with a one year stint in Colorado a few years back) but I was born in Western New York. I still have family in the Buffalo area but I don't go up there very often. In November I drove up there to see my sister and her husband and decided to take the video camera along to capture some of the trip along the way. Unfortunately while I was there I somehow erased a ton of footage of the trip from Houston to Buffalo, as well as footage of Hurricane Ike ripping up my yard. I'm actually really bummed that that happened. This is footage of Niagara Fal…

The economy is really quite that bad. We recycle, and the soda we've bought lately has been from NH, so the cans aren't redeemable. So we just put them in the recycle bin. well trash day comes and the bin has a bunch of non redeemable cans in it. Alter in the day I went to go get the bins and found the cans bin gone. It wasn't windy or anything so I can only assume someone swiped the bin with the cans in it. I mean seriously...you couldn't have just taken the cans out? Now we have to get another bin. Of course, whoever took them well be in for a surprise when they go to redeem them and the machine won't except it.

My girlfriend and I are going to be heading down to San Fran then LA at the end of June. We're going to fly into SF, stay about 4/5 days, rent a car and drive to LA, stay about 3/4 days, then fly back from there. LA I really don't know that much about. Where are the safe areas to stay? Is transit good enough to get around with down there, or should I keep the rental car for our days in LA? Also, what should we see? San Fran I think I can handle planning on my own, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

We all have regrets - in fact I think regret should be a four letter word - but I digress back to my original post about the one that got away. We all have been there, a car that to you was either a pain in the ass, no longer willing to dump money into it so you sell it cheap - or worse - junked it! I am talking about the abused of the abused, the downtrodden, and the cars that we did not appreciate at the time, but wish we had them now. Maybe it was a car you never got to drive or own, but saw it slip away because it needed more than you were willing to give or did not have the money to own/fix. For me, it was a lovely 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1 in Apollo white that…

I had to run to Lowe's today to pick up a few things. As usual, I parked out by myself with no cars next to me. When I was finished, as I was just about to hit the trunk unlock button, I realized I left my list and pen by the self-checkout register, so I turned my cart around and went back inside with my purchases still in the cart. I retrieved my forgotten stuff and wheeled my cart back out to the car. It is breezy here today. As I approached my car, I noticed an '02 Durango parked next to me. At that moment, a kid of about 7 years old opened the rear door of the Dodge, the wind caught it, and it slammed into the driver's door of my car, right in the center, just b…

We had to put our oldest cat, Rose to sleep last night. She's not been well for some time, but it got a lot worse yesterday morning. We decided that it was best to euthanize her to end her pain and suffering. We made an appointment for Monday morning. However when I was getting ready to go to bed last night at 2 or so, I noticed she was in her pet hut with her eyes open with a dead stare, not moving at all. It was painful to watch. We had to find an emergency center that was actually open. We took her their at 3am and they put her to sleep. I don't thinks he would have made it through the night. It sucks, our pets are family to us. At least she's not suffering …

My parents bought a brand new 1983 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ new; I was 8 y-o at the time. I essentially grew up with this car, and learned how to drive on it. May of 1993 my mom traded it in and it was gone forever (I did see it on two separate occasions in 1994). Ever since then, I've had a special place in my heart for these unloved GPs, and vowed one day to own one (even though it was never really mine, I treated it like it was my own before I bought my first car, a '78 Camaro LT, in 1992). Over the years I'd spot one for sale or just sitting alone, but all have needed work. Last Sunday I was out cruising around looking at dealer inventories and I spotted this: …

So, I figure I'd throw out a nice, harmless topic. Have you cars got their springtime cleaning yet? I've found some good deals on wax, so as soon as it warms up, they should get a nice wash and wax. I've already started cleaning up the inside, but I'm debating about either getting a carpet cleaner, or maybe letting the a place clean it for me. It's been a rough winter, and the cars are starting to show it.

My uncle was killed in a head-on collision a few hours ago with another vehicle. The other driver crossed the center line and stuck him on a two-lane highway north of Omaha. We have no details other than both died instantly. The last time I saw / spoke to him was at our annual family Christmas gathering, and I am now regretting not spending more time with him on that day. I'm basically in shock right now...the reality of it all hasn't hit yet.

Have you ever owned a vehicle that you were just about to the point of actually paying someone to take it off your hands? That's the relationship I have with my truck. I hate the uncomfortable seats; I hate the depressing gray on gray on gray on gray on gray on gray interior; I hate the unconnected handling; I hate the mushy ride. Warm enough to wear shorts but cool enough to not break a sweat when doing activities outside. It really is a breath of fresh air after this past week of gray and rain, and after last night's events. I took the opportunity to put my stereo back in the car, finish cleaning the front passenger seat, and cleaning the engine bay a bit. Crap battery be damned, I jumped my car and went for a 37 mile drive on the quiet winding back roads with the window open and the stereo on. My goodness, these seats are amazingly comfortable. I never appreciated a…

I’m trying to make this short, but if you’ve seen even my other single posts...humor me. It’s a long time coming. For more pictures of each of my 3 new GM rides, hit the Member’s Rides Showcase HERE. If any of you remember, last year early in the summer after I had just graduated and started working officially, I posted about new car shopping. Driving my beloved ’95 Cadillac Fleetwood at the time, I thought I wanted to make a drastic change and was looking at anything from a Chevy HHR to a Honda Fit to, essentially, what I “really wanted” with another new Malibu like I had chosen for my mother earlier in the year and loved. #1: 2008 Pontiac G6 GT Coupe White Diam…

Going up north where the remaining members of my family live...the once-every-3-month ritual...but will take a day for myself to go up to Canada, or somewhere, to clear my head. Well, I know it will be salmon on Friday night (Good Friday) and a brunch I don't have to pay for on Sunday morning, so not all is lost. Any plans for Easter?

As I've alluded to previously, I recently found myself a second job to give myself more security, financially. Now having a loan payment and feeling obliged to upgrade to full coverage insurance, I can't live off my part-time hours at the Pharmacy, alone. The idea is that one job will cover those new expenses while I have the other for miscellaneous spending and saving. Essentially, I've jumped right in and am now logging 50 hours per week, working 7 days a week. Alot of times, I will work both jobs in one day for starting at 4 am and generally lasting until 5-7 pm. It's mentally draining, especially when I'm not able to get the sleep I need. I just had a day like t…

...giving a $h! anymore. About GM Hell, about the country itself. It all just seems so hoplessly wrong, and determined to become even moreso. The popular "visions" for the future that are bandied about are anathema to me. I'm starting to become very, very, angry. I'm not loving the time we live in at all. And it has almost nothing to do with the economy either. So, what to do?

I rarely ever see commercials, w/ tiVo, but happened to catch some while catching up on last night's South Park... the Kia Soul ad is clever, with the hamsters. The Burger King Squarebutts ad is trippy (with a cameo by Sir Mix-a-Lot and a reworking of his seminal song, 'Baby Got Back')... saw a strange Cheetos ad also.

Stumbled on this: http://conceptrends.com/2009/03/15/green-f...in-south-korea/ I learn something every day. Apparently in Korea, trees don't require space for roots, and there aren't horrific winds at skyscraper heights! Some of the balconies may be ok (and some probably intolerably windy), but I can tell you this - those parks in the spaces that are open all the way through the building aren't going to have a single leaf on the trees. Wind tunnel anyone? The general idea is neat, but overall it seems like the ideas that make it interesting and unique are the most flawed.

We're going on a 4 day visit to my parents' place in Miami. Budget is offering a Solstice for $357.00. Albert really wants a convertible <and I agree>.... the other choice is a Mustang for $341.00 which makes the Pontiac a no-brainer. But how small is the trunk? Can we get two small roll aboards in there?

As the story goes, Esso Oil asked custom car guru George Barris (he of Batmobile, Munster Koach and Drag-u-la fame) to create four custom Oldsmobile Toronado coupes for the 1967 Canadian Expo. The car you see above is dubbed Toronado 67X, and according to the seller on eBay, it is one of the only two cars remaining. The big coupe was originally gold, but time and poor treatment have turned it a lovely shade of something other than gold (well, several lovely shades, actually). Although the auction has just ended, we thought you'd still enjoy a glimpse of what the seller calls the "Project car find of a lifetime" (which might be how long it would take to get it back toget…

In all the talk about GM restructuring and the possibility of bankruptcy, nobody has come up with a solution to GM's true problem; the American public general perception of the company and its products. What do you think it would take for people to believe in GM again? Or more importantly, what do you think it would take to get Americans to believe in other Americans again?

ZHP performance package. 6-speed manual transmission. Leather and memory seats, and upgraded stereo. Extended warranty up to 100,000 miles which includes the free oil change and other crap. My cousin turned his truck on its side just before easter. The night before, actually. This was my Grandpa's, as well, before he sold it to my cousin last fall. It had 20k some miles before he did. Fun picture of it, the Cobalt, and my Grand Am from '05.

-- -- -- -- -- Let's just suppose you're a 19-year old kid. You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle in the Ia Drang Valley, 11-14-65, LZ X-ray, Vietnam. Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8:1, and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the MediVac helicopters to stop coming in. You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns, and you know you're not getting out. Your family is 1/2 way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day. Then, over the machine gun noise, you faintly hear that sound of a hel…

MOMBASA, Kenya -- U.S. Navy snipers opened fire and killed three pirates holding an American captain at gunpoint, delivering the skipper unharmed and ending a five-day high-seas hostage drama on Easter Sunday. Capt. Richard Phillips was in "imminent danger" of being killed before snipers shot the pirates in an operation authorized by President Barack Obama, Vice Adm. Bill Gortney said. He said the pirates were armed with AK-47s and small-caliber pistols and were pointing the rifles at the captain when the commander of the nearby USS Bainbridge gave the order to open fire. Gortney, the commander of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, said the White House had given "ve…

happens with humans too. it's just that you have to take the woman to the steakhouse, pay a big bill, and leave a tip. the monkeys just bring the meat. so to speak (rim shot). all in all, meat for sex. fair trade i'd say. a lot cheaper dowry than a 4 bedroom suburban house and a crossover SUV in the garage, and a constant show of emotional support. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7988169.stm

Somehow I stumbled on this one. Yep, same guy who went toxic on the camaro. the subject matter is a little more popular to folks here. Honestly though, its not even the subject matter in this article or whether you care or whatever. This guy is such a foul writer. This is not journalism, this is just someone going off. How many therapists does this asshole have? Whatever he writes about seems to be toxic to read. All he seems to do is have a snit with the pen. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?...notes041009.DTL

We saw plenty of these multi-level parking structures during our trip to NYC this past week, and even commented on how their space efficiency would work well in our own cities where giant parking garages dominate the landscape. Perhaps we spoke too soon. Autoblog reader Mel spotted this scene just around the corner from the Jacob Javits Center where the 2009 New York Auto Show is being held. The multi-level steel parking structure evidently failed, sending a Lexus GS sliding down on top of a Land Rover and the front end of an also-raised Honda Accord. The kicker? A 1998 Chrysler Town and Country and older Camry sit just outside the frame unscathed. The Ford Edge that ju…

So I ran out to get some errands done. Here is what happened on the freeway and my understanding of the lanes here in Washington State. Far left lane for passing and those wanting to go a bit faster than the posted limit. Middle lane is for going at least the speed limit. Far right lane is for going speed limit or slower and exiting the freeway. I got onto the freeway, traffic moving below the posted 60 so moved over into the middle lane and ended up behind a lazy person going 10 under the speed limit. Full traffic behind and besides me in the left lane, so just stayed where I was at. The traffic in front of the person clears out so this person could speed up t…

First off, I'm pretty shocked that I was not the cause for my own thread to get locked. I must be slacking. Second, those of you who showed respect for critical thinking & keeping an open mind & sharing your opinion in an era quite possibly as volatile & unpredictable as any in the history of mankind, Thank You. Now for just a little something to satisfy Dodgefan's curiosity: My wife Julie alerted me to this the other day. A friend of hers in another state contacted her Congressman about the upcoming Codex Alimentarius proposals (as in: the locked thread) Some of you will read between the lines, others will dismiss…

Hey guys, so it is getting to be that time where I should start getting ideas of which car to purchase as my first one. I am turning sixteen in a few months (when I get my permit; a little early to look, yes, but it doesn't hurt), and I need to get a job, haha. I have about 1800 in the bank (not too terrible for someone my age) and I need to be able to afford insurance plus the car. Does anyone have a good idea of a cheap, reliable car that is also sporty and fuel-efficient (at least twenty-two mpg)? Thanks in advance, your guys' opinions really help!

Here's a random thought I want to just throw out here: how about a group of C&G members who own GM stock band together, combine their stock under one entity, continue to purchase a little more stock each month (since it's cheaper than a Florida coke whore), and eventually gain a chair on the GM Board?
