You know how older (and maybe newer, but can't recall seeing any) office chairs go up and down by spinning them like a nut on a bolt? Yeah, mine is like that, and I got a reminder why I don't like the design, at least when the "nit" (being the base of the chair" is threaded in plastic. Turn around last night at my desk, and there was a crack, followed by shaft (along with the rest of the chair and me on it)braking through the base and hitting the floor.

So I finally got the Buick home, and it actually accelerates and doesn't smoke or smell like gas or exhaust. But I never fixed the other little things, so its a kinda hollow victory. Still no new radio, no cruise control and the headliner is still duct taped up. And it needs a windshield. But at least we'll be able to get the kayaks to the lake without having to pray they dont act like a sail on the Prius. In the long term, I think I'm going to reverse my stance and say that I'll be willing to yank the 307 in favor of something a little ballsier. Also, I got my bike rebuilt and put a new seat on it, but that also feels hollow, mostly because I want a new bike.

I know this might sound petty, but is it possible to move all of the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox posts to their rightful place - with the CHEVROLET TRUCKS? GM & Chevy do consider this to be a truck model and when you look on the online ordering guide, the Equinox is listed under the Chevy Trucks link with all of the other pickups, SUVs, and CUVs. Thanks in advance for your consideration!!

so wisely i chose to suspend my direct tv last week. of course, until the other day, i didn't have any converter boxes either. well, i have one of them hooked up now. should be interesting to see if i am a go. does one need a whole new antennae also? i have the plasma, which has the digital tuner. I think i just need an antennae for that. i have 4 other TV's, of which 2 of them for now I will have converters for. I have an antennae hooked up to the first one which I believe is an HD antennae, but we'll see. Big question, is the converter box still worthless without a proper antennae? That's what i don't get. It's coming! Are you CONVERTED?

This is my idea for the next S2000 (about as good as any of those japanese "scoop" magazines anyhow). For my final project in my 3D design class I was supposed to make like a desk or something with some tools on it. It's a beginner's class after all. I decided to try my hand at a car, and figured I'd do a roadster (this is my first car model). It's incomplete but close enough (final was yesterday so I had to turn it in). I present to you, the 2010 Honda S2000! * Lighter-weight than outgoing model. * Retractable soft-top folds into forward trunk area. * Offered in three trim levels: base, Type R, and Type RR trim. * RWD X-frame chassis refine…

WASHINGTON – An elderly gunman opened fire with a rifle inside the crowded U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum on Wednesday, gravely wounding a security guard before being shot. Authorities said they were investigating a white supremacist as the possible shooter. The assailant was in critical condition, said Washington, D.C., Mayor Adrian Fenty. D.C. Police Chief Kathy Lanier said the gunman appeared to have acted alone. He was "engaged by security guards immediately after entering the door" with a rifle, she said. The museum normally has a heavy security presence with guards positioned both inside and outside. All visitors are required to pass through metal detectors at…

I can't remember who all here is in the auto sales business, but I believe Carbiz is? Anyway, I am looking at a 2001 Lincoln LS V8 that goes for about $8870 according to Kelly Blue Book. However, most of the same year / features / similar mileage that I've seen are between $7900 and $8500 (the $7900 is a private seller). The salesman that I am going through at a local F-L-M dealership is asking $8700, which my uncle (who owns a used car business and goes to auto auctions all the time) says is on the high side. He also says that KBB values are usually overinflated. My question is, what size profit margin would the dealer be expecting on this car? I realize they ca…

Here are six reasons why you should think before you speak - The last one is great! Have you ever spoken and wished that you could Immediately take the words back... Or that you could crawl into a hole? Here are the Testimonials of a few! people who did.... FIRST TESTIMONY: I walked into a hair salon with my husband and three kids in tow and asked loudly, 'How much do you charge for a shampoo and a blow job?' I turned around and walked back out and never went back. My husband didn't say a word... He knew better. SECOND TESTIMONY: I was at the golf store comparing different kinds of golf balls. I was unhappy with the women's type I had been using. After…

I've read that with the free trail versions of Photoshop, you can't save, print, or export. Has anyone downloaded it to either verify or dismiss that? I'm getting fairly sick of my existing photo editing software and have been looking into Photoshop. I don't want to go through the trouble of downloading such a large program if I'm only going to be able to play with it and it's certainly too expensive to buy outright. As well, I would want to look into alternate programs. Either way, what I have is going to be replaced. Help is appreciated.

Been ignoring my shop & the projects in it for FAR FAR FAR too long, busy with work (and making a few excuses along the way). But it's a wonder what cleaning up something to the point of making it more inviting to be in, can do. I have a tentative 'rental' looking to move into Bay 3, tho today I got a call: the guy found a garage closer to his home. If it doesn't get arranged by next weekend, my buddy -the current 'landlord'- told the owner it's coming here at least for June. Does this whole bipartisan push for clunker laws bother anyone else here? I am by no means a conservative, but this just trikes me as a huge waste of government money when we have sooo many other good current uses for the money. Plus, think of all the cars that will be crushed... Plenty of B body big cars. Think of the Caprices that could be fixed up, or the third gen Camaros, or the post 72 El-Camino's, or the decent shape GM trucks that could find a life hauling around a farmer or a mason or something. Don't like this one bit. Thoughts? Chris

Starting last year, Dr. Steven Greenburg of Brookville opens his collection of Cadillacs to the public after the car show at 4 pm. CONCORD — It's official: No matter what the Massachusetts Supreme Court decides, New Hampshire won't be collecting sales taxes from Bay Staters who stray over the border to do their shopping. Yesterday, New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch applauded the final passage of a bill protecting New Hampshire businesses from having to collect sales and use taxes on behalf of Massachusetts and other states. The bill, sponsored by Seabrook's Sen. Maggie Wood Hassan, D-Exeter, received final approval by the Senate during its Wednesday session and now goes to Lynch, who will surely sign it. When the issues first arose, Lynch called the attempted tax grab by Massachusetts "outrageous." …

So as you guys saw, I've been trying to round up what's left of my old models, with the goal of trying to fix them and make them better than they were. This is something I've wanted to do for a while, and started with one of them, but lost some of the parts and haven't really progressed much. Since my car is at the shop and the Prizm is all clean, I've been pretty bored, so yesterday I decided to tackle one of my other old B-17's, this one a B-17F by Revell. I actually have two of these and parts of a third, all of them broken, but I figured maybe I could make one good one out of two. Here's the results so far:

I swear, we have the worst luck with bottom feeders. We've been through 3 so far this year. I'm not sure what the issue is. Tested the water, everything was good. It was treated with medication shortly after we got our last Pleco. Temperature is in the right range, salt levels are good. This one turned up dead yesterday. I'd never seen the other fish pick on/at it, and it showed no signs of being attacked when I found it...although by teh time I got it out of teh water they had picked at it... Meanwhile, the two Silver Tips "Sharks" are happy as can be. Weird.

As some of you may know I posted a thread recently about the Riviera needing a transmission. The the day I got the car back the water pump went and ripped my belt to pieces. The grand total was roughly $3800. Now Monday night while driving on the interstate going about 65MPH my car shuts off. I coast to the shoulder and wait 2 and a half hours for a tow truck. Have the car towed 14 miles with my friend's AAA, and still pay $90 for the tow, and now for the good news. I just got a call from the shop telling me I need a engine. Let me first off say gm4life has been talking about another car since last fall, a pre-owned edition to my fleet. I have taken many peoples advice including BV (scary) and I know I AM NOT getting an Aveo5 or G3. With that off my chest, I went to take my FIRST test drive tonight the story is interesting... First let me say actually my wife is the one who discovered the vehicle I drove tonight, not me or my son. Very odd indeed and she was the one pushing to go see it because she is the one who saw it for sale not my son or I. The car drove well but is in need of new front brakes, and other than that it is very clean besides a few rock chips and one very small dent. The i…

Okay....I've read a rumor, and maybe you guys have heard it.....that Car & Driver might be leaving Ann Arbor to combine many operations with it's sister mag, Road & Track, in Newport Beach, CA.? At first, I thought "no" because....didn't they just move into new editorial offices in Ann Arbor? Then I read that one of the reasons Csaba Csere (who I've always liked) left C&D at the end of last year was because he didn't like the direction the magazine was taking....and admist rumors that they were leaving Michigan to move to CA to combine many operations with R&T (which would make some economic sense considering they are both owned by the same publisher..…

Option # 1: 1986 Chevrolet Caprice Brougham...2 door. 86k miles. $1550. 1 owner, no rust, never driven in winter. 5.0 auto loaded for an '86. This is a VERY clean car. The guy went so far as to tell me about the two defects on this car: the chrome trim inside the steering wheel is checked...and there is a small scuff on the fender that has rust bubbles starting on. Also it may need exhaust soon (still original!). Selling to get $$$ to rebuild the motor in thier one owner 1970 chevrolet heavy half. Option # 2: 1991 Camaro RS T-top car, 100k miles. Minor rust spots here and there, comes with a slew of extra parts : wheels, nose, t-tops. Runs and drives well. S…

So I hop back on syty.net (My rare visit to the site) to see a post about my old GMC Syclone up for sale in NY. I owned #1616 from '97-'01 and sold it with 33k on the clock. It now has 43k and the guy had it listed at $8500. I emailed him last night to find out it was already sold. Damn the luck!

"I WANT TASTE BUDS!" Okay, so who else out there finds this commercial hilarious? I can't be the only one. My 3 year old does a great impression of the robot too... but I think that's just him being a normal 3 year old anyway (if you have small children at home, you'll know what I mean by that).

Chicken, sir, you've been around here so long, it's hard to believe you're only turning 16. Let us know if you're driving yet so we can be on full tilt defensive driver mode. Have a good one, Mr. Word Association!

SAN FRANCISCO – California's Supreme Court upheld the state's gay-marriage ban Tuesday but said the estimated 18,000 same-sex weddings that took place before the prohibition passed are still valid — a ruling decried by gay-rights activists as a hollow victory. Demonstrators outside the court booed, wept and yelled, "Shame on you!" Activists said they would go back to the voters as early as next year in a bid to repeal the ban, and a federal lawsuit seeking to overturn it was filed late last week. In a 6-1 decision written by Chief Justice Ron George, the court rejected arguments that the ban approved by the voters last fall was such a fundamental change in the Califor…

Well, with all the crappy new lately (and it sucks to know that "other stuff" too), it makes me want to just get away from cars for a while. One simple thing is stopping me- my Cavalier. Yes, a simple Cavvy...... Even though my plans to "speed" her up are done (just a waste of money with a family now), My buddy is working on his beater 03, which has me wanting to do a little "upgrading". Granted, just wheels and tires, and few small goodies....it is amazing what a little work on your car will do. I want my next project to a classic car (GM vintage), and find a car that will be a fun 1st classic car..... I almost feel bad about spendin the money, but....gotta hav…

Damn, I was scanning the on-boards and birthdays on the home page, and saw Nick's birthday. I waited...thinking of others *cough* who might have started this thread...but it would have been uncool to overlook your birthday. So, Happy Birthday.

Yeah I can't believe I am asking this... Will a 2005 Impala LS with the premium CD player like shown here only with out the tape deck play burned CD's/MP3 formated music say from iTunes? I think it works in my Bonneville and never tried in the Torrent because I know it can't at least I think, because it was the standard l-cheapo cd-deck and its has an AUX input for my Nano. Anyways anyone know? Here is the stero in question, mine will be the same minus the tape deck. My 2001 only has a AM/FM/Tape with RDS, FYI that is partly why I am wondering... Anyways the photo... Sorry about the photo it was the best I could do... Any help or comments would help alot, thanks in…

For fun, let's see what everyone uses for hand tools. This applies to screwdrivers, wrenches, sockets, and the like. This does not include power tools. I'll do a thread for that later. You can choose multiples.

What "gets your attention" but is completely different than what you'd normally go for? In other words, what says "hey, I'm worth a second look", despite being a configuration you generally wouldn't consider? I ask this because I think that is where the winners in the market are to be found. I'm not saying that you'd necessarily follow through with a purchase of a given example, but that it engenders a level of positive respect that you can't quite deny. An example of such a product that just barely fits this category for me is the Ford Flex - it is interesting and individual enough that I have to give it some credit. Others are more automatic entries on my list…

A BPG dealer I've had contact with over the past 5-6 months regarding some of their used/GM Certified inventory has had the following 2000 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi sedan available for the past two months now: It has a tad less than 71k original miles on it, is a fully loaded SSEi model, and from the pictures and e-mails I've received from the sales lady, the car is in excellent condition for its age. The price they're asking is a little high IMO, but as with all used cars I'm sure it could be negotiated to something better. What I'd like to know is if it would be a smart decision to purchase a 9 year-old car like this, especially since a 24-36 month loan woul…
