Does anyone have any experience with different types of siding? Sure, aluminum is old-skool, and vinyl is ubiquitous, but what about fiber cement siding? Does anyone have any knowledge of it? Is it expensive, and if so, is it worth it? Does the color stand up to time, or does it have to be painted after a while? Thanks!

For the first time since I've had all 4 older Monte Carlos (1972, 1976, 1979 and 1981), I drove EACH of them at least 1,000 miles in 2009. I came close to that milestone in 2008, but fell just shy. Now, all 5 of my Monte Carlos are "sleeping" for the 2009-2010 winter ... awaiting their 2010 debut. 1972 MC STATS: 11/28/08 mileage ... 144,986 11/22/09 mileage ... 146,054 miles driven 11/28/08 to 11/22/09 = 1,068 In 2009, "Browny"'s odometer surpassed the 145,000 and 146,000 mileage markers. miles driven 12/11/04 to 11/19/05 = 563 miles driven 11/19/05 to 11/24/06 = 497 miles driven 11/24/06 to 11/18/07 = 489 miles driven 11/18/07 to 11/28/08 = 957 miles driven s…

During the trek up there today, I kept seeing full-size vans with porthole windows in the back. I haven't seen so many since the 70s, what's up with that? And they were all plain white work vans, not custom vans at all. Very strange. I didn't even think anyone still made those things.

So...at work... Get a case of 1000 Watt lamps to fix some 40' tall pole lights in a parking lot...lamps are Chinese in origin. These are an extreme PITA to change, as there is a 138,000 volt high voltage set of lines that run right near the pole lights...you have to position the bucket truck just right to maintain OSHA safe clearance. And of course...no more than get them installed and they go bad. So I need to go back before I leave and replace lamps (bulbs) less than two hours old with new ones. Thankfully, I have American made lamps in the truck and they work perfectly. Then I go to the vendor to buy more American made lamps...and find that MFR. has now outsource…

I've mentioned before my mother recently has gotten a "thing" for new Camaro's, calling me about ones she sees, pointing them out when out, asking me questions about them, etc. Yesterday I was actually home for once and while she was cooking dinner, 5pm rolled around and I clicked on Motorweek in the kitchen. This week's first test, the Camaro SS. Typically I'd be the only one interested in this show at all, but from the second "Camaro" was uttered a certain someone ordered "quiet!", turned up the volume, and intently stopped what she was doing to watch every second of the review. "Oooh, look at that" when they were doing the acceleration, and then more importantly t…

Well, our first big storm of the winter will be hitting tomorrow and I am still waiting for my snow tires to ship to the tire store. I had my first taste of snow and ice in the LS a few days ago and quickly learned how not to drive. I had two fishtails while turning a corner onto a downhill street but recovered easily from both, but not without making my heart race a little. I used to drive an E-350 for work and had to take it out in the snow a few times (many years ago), but it is a big difference driving a cargo van with 2500 lbs of meat loaded up in the back. This weekend I went to Menard's and bought two 70 lb sand bags in addition to the 35 lb one that came with …

Went to the gym today, and the hot shower water dried my hands up pretty bad. After that, I went to the grocery store. In the soap aisle, there was a rack with some kind of hand lotion I'd never heard of. They had all the different flavors sitting there in a row at shoulder height with "tester" written on the bottle, so I thought what the heck. I chose the unscented flavor, put my hand under the nozzle, and pushed down. Instead of squirting down into my hand, it shot straight out onto the center of my chest the size of a quarter and left a trail down to my navel. I looked like a friend had just done something very naughty to me. I immediately looked around to see…

Not so much as sleep with them...but you could be a "fly on the wall" in the morning when they take a shower. I'll go first...just got back from parent teacher confrences...the woman who teaches my younger son's science class. She just has this nice midwestern look to her and she's really a sweet person. OK, so I seem to remember a Pontiac ad from magazines or maybe a full line brochure. I would love to have it as my desktop, but I cant find it on the web. Does anyone have it scanned by chance? If noone does I may have to dig out some old brochures to see if I can find it. OK, the ad was (I am pretty sure) a GTO, Bonneville and Grand Prix all in one pic, and I think they were made to look like they were sitting at the end of skid marks that would look like they spun them into place for the picture. It would have to be 2004 or 2005, methinks. Bueller? Bueller?

I was thinking about this lately. Most of us remember the absurd lines from movies. Some of the funniest lines are in Eddie Murphy movies. However, one Eddie Murphy movie, "Trading Places" has a lot of funny lines, but one of the most profound (in my mind). If you recall, Eddie Murphy is being prepped to make a switch to the Ivy League/Philly Main Line world in "Trading Places." The butler in the movie was really perceptive, especially after years of catering to the snobs that lived in that mansion. As he sends Eddie Murphy off into the limo, he says "just be yourself, they can't take that away from you." Wow. For some reason, that stuck. Have any movie lines r…

I know it's not a big show like L.A., but it's still a decent show.....and for us CA guys, it's the first one of the season....and usually has some cool things going on (like a Fiesta ride-and-drive) even though it's a smaller show, it's right in the heart of SoCal.....

Firing Order Horsepower, Torque vs. RPM curve CO2 emission numbers Applications in GM vehicles Dry Engine Weight Brief History While most of the figures will be handy, the most important data which will be lacking are HP, Torque curve and CO2 emissions. HARWICH, Mass. -- Teens at a local high school staged a sit-in that ended with two arrests. "Respect. That's all we're trying to get out of it," said Ana Nocchi, a senior at Cape Cod Technical High School. Some believe the new dean at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School is too strict. Students staged the sit in after they were served only cheese sandwiches at lunch because they failed to clean up the day before. "They closed the doors and we couldn't leave the lunch room and she was standing up on stage calling us pigs and immature little kids and nasty," Nocchi said. A Facebook group organized the sit-in. Approximately 200 students gathered in school's main hall…

This isn't some "GM Death Watch" thread. This is industry-wide. Who do you think the next brand or company will be to leave the US market? There's been serious talk about Mitsu leaving, occasional talk about VW leaving, though I haven't had that impression myself. Then of course there's the occasional clamor for axing a GM brand. Isuzu is gone (practically has been for a while, though). So, who's next to leave the US market or shut down?

I never knew GM had so many brands between approx. 1929 and 1931. I have known about LaSalle and Oakland for a while, but I had never heard of Marquette or Viking and the reasons they came into existence. So as I understand it: Chevrolet (basic four cylinders, I6, some V8s) Pontiac-Oakland (Oakland the parent company, Pontiac introduced as the entry level brand for the division to fill the spread between Chevrolet and Oakland. Pontiac had a "light six" and shorter wheelbase, while Oakland had a six cylinder?, V8, and longer wheelbase) Oldsmobile-Viking (Viking slightly upmarket from Olds, both equipped with V8s...Viking was the shortest lived of all the brands) Mar…

I considered the Smart, but it was too slow, too expensive (for what you got) and until lately, unobtainium. Unfortunately both will be gone by the time I'm ready, and are likely budget busters. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000-Chevy-3500-Pickup-7-4-liter-Boss-Snow-Plow-2500_W0QQitemZ320452465087QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item4a9c7491bf http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy-2003-2500HD-4x4-…

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle. I am SCARFING down some Thanksgiving victuals, all made by ocn from scratch, and everything turned out great... shocker! Here's what I'm eating as I type: Butterball whole turkey breast: rubbed with margarine (I Can't Believe It Ain't Butter w/Olive Oil version), fresh ground pepper and poultry seasoning. Apple and Wild Rice dressing: two loaves of french bread, ripped up into bitesize chunks & soaked in chopped onion, celery hearts, Red Delicious apple, sage, poultry seasoning, powdered buttermilk, wild rice (cooked in a separate pan ahead of time), chicken broth and plenty of margarine (all sauteed together until the veggies are …

My daughter sent me this, she said it reminded her when I would let her drive when she was about 7 or 8. She could also tell you every brand of GM vehicles as we passed them when she was about 2. She also says this guy has the same type of Texass accent I have, but I do my best to suppress it. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

What a way to start a holiday..... I got word this morning that an old friend of mine was killed in an accident at home. I don't know the entire details. He is survived by his partner of 12+ years. What I'm thankful for, more than anything else, is the love and devotion from my partner Albert. Through the most trying of times he is there with me ready to do whatever needs to be done to get through... and he deserves a lot of credit for putting up with a grump like me. I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving holiday. I plan on laying low the rest of the week. Try not to fight too much.

It's something I'm thinking about obtaining. I know the market isn't exactly booming and bustling, but maybe there's still decent money in it. I need to do something during much more productive than doing odd jobs and failing at finding full-time work during this period of "downtime" I'm having while I figure out what course of action I should take during college. Perhaps a local firm will hire me and give me a decent salary plus commission. And say if the degree I obtain in college fails to find me permanent full-time work for a period of one or two years, this could be something I can fall back on. I wonder how long it would take to get one outside of an "online cours…

From all of the grim crap I'm dealing with. So I thought that I'd ask a hypothetical question to get a discussion going. What if GM were to build a really small RWD car/platform? Something smaller than the Alpha. Maybe Mini-sized or a touch bigger. Can anyone come-up with some configuration ideas? Just thought it might make a good "what if" exercise.

Next time you think your hotel bill is too high you might want to consider this... Husband and wife are traveling by car from Key West to Boston After almost twenty-four hours on the road, They're too tired to continue, and they decide to stop for a rest. They stop at a nice hotel and take a room, but they only plan to sleep for four hours and then get back on the road. When they check out four hours later, the desk clerk hands them a bill for $350.00. The man explodes and demands to know why the charge is so high. He tells the clerk although it's a nice hotel, the rooms certainly aren't worth $350.00! When the clerk tells him $350.00 is the standard rate, the …

As I'm sure you guys know by now, it's been a rough year for me financially. There simply isn't any work. I've hung on about as long as I could, but things have reached the breaking point and I have to get something going. So,this is what I think I'll do tomorrow. The plan is to put all of my vehicles up for sale and withdraw the last driveable one when the time comes. That means I'll end up keeping the Silverado, the wagon, or the Blazer for a bit. I'm thinking of pricing them like this: Blazer - $2,000 (not negotiable) Mothertruck - $4,500 including thousands in new parts Camino + parts Camino + thousands in new parts for resto $4,500 Wagon - $4,500 Jag - $1,500 …

I know there are lots of Pennsylvania forumers here, so I thought I would share this neat promotional video of Philadelphia & surrounding areas from around 1951. Pre-offshoring,pre-drive thru, and mostly pre-suburbia, this is an interesting blast from the past. Little did they know that the mighty Bethlehem Steel would be nothing more than a memory in 45 years.

Who do you most like to watch lose in a sports sense? Me personally I hate Penn State and the Lions. Can't stand Jo Pa and his boys... Would gladly watch OSU go 1-11 to watch them beat Penn State. Also, I've lived in Ohio for 21 years but...I have no love at all for the Browns or Bengals... Steelers all the way for me! And I also can't stand the Cowboys, pretty much. And in Hockey I have no love for the Edmunton Oilers...at all. So who do you love to watch lose? Chris

Here is the deal I need to select a system/gaming series I want to play. I was going to go with a PS3 and GT5 but frankly I am SICK of waiting, and now it will be until at least end of March 2010 before it is out. I am comparing a PS3 120 GB Slim to a XBOX 360 120 GB Elite just in case anyone was wondering. I DO NOT have any idea of the an updated car list for GT5 except the fact it will have all GT4 cars plus another 200-300 new ones. I am a die-hard Playstation and Gran Turismo fan until... I saw the offical Forza 3 car list which includes lots of good stuff. (more on that later) I am really only buying a system/game for the domestic cars anyways with the exception of a…

Twice I worked my tail off to get a posting ready, and twice CL gave me this "your listing is too large" without a way to go back and edit! Jerk-offs! I'm guessing that the pics did it, but who knows? Ticks me off when my time is wasted like that.

I believe in fires at midnight when the dogs have all been fed. A golden toddy on the mantle a broken gun beneath the bed. Silken mist outside the window. Frogs and newts slip in the dark too much hurry ruins the body. I'll sit easy, fan the spark kindled by the dying embers of another working day. Go upstairs, take off your makeup, fold your clothes neatly away. Me, I'll sit and write this love song as I all too seldom do. Build a little fire this midnight. It's good to be back home with you.

So I've been itching to reduce my carbon footprint around town for a while, and what better way to do that than to drive a vehicle which will likely end up killing me! I've been eying bikes over the past year, and casually gone to dealers, Harley's 'Test our Metal' gig, and a big show last February. I've sat on quite a few different types, and seem to have found that I'd be most satisfied with something out of the 'cruiser' category. This might change, of course. My problem is down to figuring out what I should be looking at in this category. I have no real brand loyalty, and just want something that will suit my needs. I'm 200 pounds, about 6'1. The purpose of the bik…

So, with my paycheck here and the Olds motor leaving at the end of the week, I'll have enough cash to buy either one of these two cars. 1986 Pontiac Firebird, 5.0L V8 with 113K miles (swapped from an '85 Camaro), runs and drives, needs some mild bodywork, paint, and a home: http://lexington.craigslist.org/cto/1465976167.html 1979 Pontiac Firebird "Redbird Edition", no motor or transmission, needs bodywork and paint, usable interior: Now, if I buy the '79 Firebird, I'll be putting a 403 in it which I can pick up for $150 bucks. I could save that money easy, maybe keep the TH350-R I have, and put it on the road while I do the bodywork. Because Re…

Well, after spending almost $1,700 of my hard-earned and long saved-up money, the '96 Cadillac Fleetwood is back on the road, just about ready for daily-driver duty this Wednesday (the AURA goes back to the dealer Tuesday night). A new starter assembly, a new fuel pump and strainer, an new idler arm, and four new Kelly Navigator Gold White-Wall tires have been installed by my local repair shop. Add in a AAA Plus Membership (used to tow the car to the shop this past Wednesday (not to mention a jump-start yesterday!) and a full tank of gas and I'm pretty much broke. It runs great, and with the four new tires, their balance & alignment and the new idler arm it rides l…

For like 8-10 years I have had my own .com primarily for useless reasons, and to run a constant and consistent email address through it. My domain i believe is paid and registered through like 2010 or 2011 but here is the catch. they keep fcking with their email plan and setup. and it pisses me off. I route all of the mail through this domain through an all inclusive gmail account because its on the cloud. One of the reasons i did this was first the domain host changed the inbox size from very big to -5 MB- stored unless i wanted to pay like 20 bucks a month. F that I said, i kept the free email and its been working fine to just have it forwarded to my gmail, it get…
