* Hard to believe I've finished my 36 sessions of Cardiac Rehab for my 11/11/2011 open heart surgery; last session was 04/13/2012. I plan to return to the facility via their monthly fee, but I have to find a new job first. Wouldn't mind some other dreams/goals coming true, either...just sayin'. Some people have likened CR to watching paint dry, but not for me. It made me a bit more "lean'n'mean". More importantly, it was fun, thanks to the nursing staff & fellow rehabbers. After 10 years w/ two vintage Mercedes, my sister decided this week that she'd had enough of the money pits and decided to she wanted something newer and more reliable for the 50 mile per day commute (been working locally for a while instead of out of town). Working cold air conditioning was a top priority w/ today being the first 100 degree day of the season. So this is now in the driveway..I ran the car fax, it came up clean. It's a very clean, one owner '00 DTS, 96k miles. I drove it for about an hour tonight around town and on the freeway, it drives great..very smooth and quiet. I guess I will have to take back all the mean things I've said about FWD Caddies. C…

If there are any Ohio residents (I only know of one, hyperV6) that can answer a question for me... are you familiar with Young's Jersey Dairy, on Route 68 in Springfield, Ohio? I ask because Vintage Truck magazine holds an annual classic truck show and I was wondering if it would be possible to fly-in to an airport close enough that I could attend this show.

So last Friday I washed, clay barred, and waxed my wife's G6. Everything is smooth as glass, well except the windshields. I used RainEx many, many years ago and didn't like the results (windshield was streaky when it rained and the wipers were on). Any suggestions for protecting the glass?

I was hungry so I cooked myself a decent Sunday Dinner: Glazed ham slice Leftover ham from Easter. I put a slice of it in a pan with a little water, honey, ground ginger and a dash of ground cloves. Cooked it down on medium high heat until the liquid was syrupy. Stuck it on a plate and poured the glaze over top. Baked Mac-N-Cheese Cooked some macaroni and set it aside. Mixed Velveeta, cream cheese, shredded sharp cheddar and milk with pimentos, paprika, cayenne pepper, a dash of garlic powder and a little flour to bind it together. Heated it until melted, poured it over the mac, topped it with bread crumbs mixed with melted butter and baked it. Steamed Asparagus…

* I love "March Madness", the NCAA basketball tournament. I enjoy watching the games, particularly the close ones, witnessing the comebacks, being stunned by the shockers. Lately I've been considering just what sort of serious vehicle purchase will come next for me. And by serious, I mean one that isn't a project or so old as to be impractical as a daily driver. At some point, I will need to replace the Tahoe and the ROPOS with a half-decent truck that I can plow with and use for all of the things I do workwise. But that can happen over time since the Tahoe now owes me some miles (and I like it). The vehicle I am considering will have to be better on fuel than the Tahoe (not hard to do), be a manual, and be something I can enjoy when I drive it. It will also have to be low-mileage and long trip worthy since I am way overdue for some goo…

I would like to introduce to you all the newest member of my family, Buddy: He is a Shih Tzu and was born on January 27. We found him Saturday night at a puppy store that is owned by the same guy that we bought our other dog, Benji (Lhasa Apso) from 12 years ago. Buddy was picked up yesterday afternoon and has been a pure joy to have as a part of our family. Benji is adjusting to the new puppy, however he appears not to be too thrilled right now On the otherhand these two have formed quite a bond: Ah, a boy and his dog...

93-year-old Florida woman retires her ’64 Mercury after 576,000 miles on the road Link: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/93-old-florida-woman-retires-her-64-mercury-204007316.html These days, most people consider themselves lucky if a new car lasts 5 to 10 years. Make it to 100,000 miles in your vehicle, and the car company might make a commercial about you. That makes 93-year-old Rachel Veitch a notable exception. Veitch is retiring her 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente after more than 576,000 miles on the road. "I am legally blind, so I can no longer drive my lovely Chariot," Veitch told FoxNews.com. "They don't have to take it away, I would not dream of drivi…

So the Tablet craze got me thinking, Ford has their whole Sync world with USB upgrades. GM has their version coming out MyLink, they have also their Android App to help you better interface with the VOLT. So with this in mind, what would it take to have an Auto maker decide to just have a 10" tablet holder in the center dash with a USB port. Just plug in your tablet and have say suction cups that hold it in place and boom. Up comes an interface allowing you to totally manage everything in your car. This way depending on how you interface to the world, via Apple, Windows, Linux, you have a nice to use interface and the abilityto customize it. I see this as reducing the c…

A couple of years ago, my mother was driving her '05 Cobalt base sedan and constantly complaining about how hard it was to get in and out of it. She became aware of the 3 boxy hatchbacks that were hitting the market... xB, Cube, and Soul. She was enamored, I was bemused. Until I realized that for a little lady of her age (4'11", age 65 at the time), the ease of entry and cabin volume with small footprint, affordability and good fuel mileage might be ideal for her. So after test driving the Cube and Soul (with her in the passenger seat, amusingly), she decided on the Cube for its laid back, rolling living room feel and "unique" looks. The flat seats and soft suspensio…

At this point I'm curious about buying a vehicle out-of-state and registering it in my state. If it were to happen, it would be a Pennsylvania vehicle coming to New Jersey. I'm wondering how different a PA state title is from a NJ state title? Specifically, would there be additional information I would need to secure in order to convert a PA title to a NJ title?

was setting up today..... caught some nice pics of the new GM stuff. more in a bit...... impressions ATS is sharp, looks more egglike in person but extremely dynamic. New XTS is large! Boatlike, between the two new Cadillacs, a very definite shift in design......more egglike, less chiseled, quite futuristic. In ten years one will be able to see how these cars ushered in new design directions Encore - extremely impressed. For the small size it looks robust and substantial. Should be a huge hit with women. New Fusion and Escape - i gotta say, the new Escape could possibly be a miss. I did not like it from the first look. I think folks like the tough boxy look! …

Out with February, out with winter, out with the Challenger. I will not be seeking an immediate replacement. The used car market in my area is a non-stop barrage of overpriced and high-mileage junk. Yesterday's retail prices have become today's wholesale values. Four-grand will only buy you an unlovable, worn out sedan or SUV with near or at 200,000 miles, a mange-riddled paint job, an arthritic suspension, and a catatonic engine. If you're really lucky, four-grand more will buy you a cramped compact sedan with 70,000 miles that's been built out of pure tapioca and subjected to a previous life of hardcore prostitution. If by the grace of God a realistic deal comes your w…

I'm embarking on yet another car search. It seems to be a yearly occurrence for me, though I still have a ways to go to reach the likes of Ocnblu's quarterly car purchasing spree. I'm probably not too far off at this rate... While I've loved my Legacy Turbo, it's becoming a bit of a burden. It's hard on insurance, even harder on gas, and hasn't been holding up as well as I had hoped. It's a great car with a performance pedigree (if you ignore the soft suspension, anyways), and It's likely to be my favorite over time. With that said, it has some faults that I overlooked originally. The most notable has to be the aforementioned gas mileage with my average often hanging bel…

OK, I feel a bit odd making this post here, but you guys have been my friends for so long now that I had to let you know what's up. Later this year, I will be publishing a collection of my writings from about 1979 to the present. For a while now, I have been sifting through old notebooks, and boxes of papers to extract this stuff. The book will be composed of prose, poetry and song lyrics that have needed a mission for a very long time. I'll update you later as things progress.

Yes yes, I know it's hard to get up off the sidewalk with your snowsuit on, BUT hey, get your mom to put your arms down so you can post some stone cold car spots right up in here!

The day before The Elegance at Hershey, the same grounds hosted a vintage auto race. The Grand Ascent found antique cars, some over a century old, speeding up the hill behind the Hershey Hotel! It was a sight to see...but you should have been there HEAR and FEEL it! The deep bass of the Mercedes' exhaust could be felt in your chest! It was amazing. Check out the pictures at the link below. http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/3745

<iframe width="420" height="315" src=" http://www.youtube.com/embed/xrJuigh2aCc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> It's time to pop a bag of popcorn and sit back and watch countless citizens of the state of Utah conquer a few inches of snow. I also reccommend muting the audio in the video above, bringing up YouTube again in a new window or tab, and playing Benny Hill's theme song just for a little added effect. Notable highlights from the video include a mid-90s Chevrolet Cavalier that does a three-sixty degree spin without hitting anything, a dude stupidly trying to haul ass in his Dodge Dakota, and how both a Trailblazer SS and a Crown Victoria …

* THIS is your official "fair warning" ... my "big heart" is NO MORE. Literally, It was replaced with a cow valve, 11/11/2011. Figuratively, the jury is still out.... I'm the opposite of the Grinch. Instead of my heart growing bigger, it is now smaller. Perhaps the following vignettes will provide proof...or not. ENERGY BOOST It's amazing how people's words/actions affect how you feel, bad & good. After my Christmas Eve radio broadcast, I had rather low energy. But, seeing all of the posts & Emails about my radio show ... & talking to people at the Christmas Eve service, along with a short drive to see Holiday decorations ... really re-energized me. …

Make sure your sound isn't too high when you hit play. Rotor noise sped up 2000% doesn't sound so nice. Also make sure you put it on 720p. Though you might have to pause and let it load a bit before you hit play again with 720p. The funny thing was, it wasn't even my choice. I was given 3 airports to fly to, and this was the course it required.

* So ... anyone else notice that the NFL's NFC Championship game (NY Giants at SF 49ers), Sunday, 01/22/2012, was a battle between terminal cities of the Lincoln Highway? Interestingly ... MLB's Giants moved across the LH from NY to SF. Route 66 also boasts connections to sports franchises in Chicago, St Louis & LA.... In terms of team colors, I can only think of 1 city that has at least 3 major sports teams with the same basic 3 colors: Pittsburgh... ...black, white, yellow/gold ...Pirates (MLB) ...Steelers (NFL) ...Penguins (NHL) Chicago is one city that comes close, with 2 teams sporting the same 3 colors... ...black, white, red ...Bulls (NBA) ...Black…

We were given a notice in our paychecks on Friday that there were Philadelphia Auto Show passes available for the asking. So I went to the office and asked for 2. I got SIX. I want to go on Saturday, January 28th. If anyone wants to meet me there you can have the free pass. Send me a message through C&G if you're interested.

The sun has unleashed a blast in Earth's direction, and that should cause brighter-than-normal auroral displays this weekend. Skywatchers won't be the only ones monitoring the storm: The folks in charge of power grids and orbiting satellites will also be on guard to make sure the disturbance in the (geomagnetic) force won't be disruptive. Word of today's blast, technically known as a coronal mass ejection or CME, comes via SpaceWeather.com's Tony Phillips. NASA says the outburst sparked an M3.2-class solar flare, as well as a stream of electrically charged particles that is due to interact with Earth's magnetic field on Saturday. "Viewers can be on the lookout for increa…

I spent a few hours at Barrett-Jackson today...great cool, cloudy weather. About 1300 cars this year...nice selection. In the main exhibit hall, Ford and Chevy had some large new car displays...incl. lots of 2012 and 2013 Mustangs...the '13 Shelby GT500 and Boss 302 were particularly of interest, along w/ the '12 versions.... interesting styling changes on the '13 Mustangs. Amongst the new Chevys, I got to see the Spark, Sonic, '13 Malibu, and Camaro ZL1 in person for the first time... sat in the new Malibu..pretty nice inside, but the rear seat area and rear door openings seem very tight... As far as the vintage cars being auctioned, beyond the usual dozens of Cama…

* "Kid" movies/shows that have adult themes (or vice versa) ... GO! Kermit & Rowlf singing about women ... "I Hope That Something Better Comes Along": [My favorite song from that 1979 Muppet Movie is one of the related videos on the right-hand-side list ... Kermit & Fozzie singing "Movin' Right Along".] Scenes from the original CARS movie ... "Real Gone": Golden Girls ... choose just about ANY scene from that TV show. As a kid, I was allowed to watch it ... but seeing it now as an adult, I'm a bit surprised. The writing and acting on that show was superb, at least in terms of disguising some of the adult themes.... Others? Cort | 38.m.IL | pigValv…

I looked out my bedroom window at 4:30 this morning and saw the most glorious sight EVAR OMG... 4 inches of virgin snow blanketing the area. Put on my cap and coat and headed out for some travel. So relaxing to be out driving in the snow so early in the morning in a vehicle that can make it through, no worries. Ended up in BFE again (not the same place as before, but still VERY country, with lots of hills and winding roads.) Snowy fun!

As a few people on this site can attest, I love car shows. But how many times can you look at Corvettes or Mustangs and not be bored? This past year, a new car show was launched and it was stunning! Please check out some of my pictures from the show and let me know what you think. Perhaps you can make plans on attending this year's event. http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/3722

Disclaimer: this is all personal rambling. If you want to get to the meat of the story, skip the prologue. Well, as I mentioned here before, I'm entering what has turned out to be a transitional period in my life. On October 18th, I quit my job after a two-weeks notice. I had been working for Guitar Center for almost a year (about three weeks shy of that mark) earning minimum wage plus commission where it was a sales-based job. While the job was not physically taxing, it was very mentally demanding and the constant long hours left me feeling trapped and continuously fatigued. It was a very financially unpredictable job as well because of the country's unbalanced economy…

Wanted to get out of the house as it's been a boring weekend. Drove south a few miles toward Conestoga, PA, and sawr a sign for "Shenk's Mill Wildflower Preserve". Not really familiar with the area even though it's like 6 miles south of my house. Suddenly, the blacktop ended and the road turned to gravel with some decent washouts and steep down- and uphill approach and departures. I turned around at a railroad track and took a different route. It was like I dropped off the face of the earth. I lowered the window to listen for the sound of banjos... Little Patriot pulled through well. I got a little mud on 'im. It turned out to be a fun excursion.

* After my 11/11/2011 open heart surgery, I drove for the first time, 12/15/2011. I had a rush of excitement when I pulled my 1979 Caprice Classic out of the garage, where it had been with my 5 MCs. As I drove down the road, my thoughts turned to other cars, particularly ones I'd love to purchase... ...mid-late 1970s LTD/Thunderbird ...1975 Caprice Classic convertible ...1976 Caprice Classic sedan ...1989 Caprice Classic sedan ...1987 MC SS Aerocoupe ...2011 Dodge Charger ...& too many others.... Then, during that same drive, I wondered what it'd be like to have KITT, KARR, Herbie, the General Lee, Jim Rockford's Pontiac, Starsky & Hutch's Torino, &…
