C&G's ONLY Music Thread

I did this way back at the old forums, so what the hell? I'll bring it back. Feel free to post anything about music. The instruments you play, the music you love, the song you're listening to right now. Feel free to bash bands you hate, just don't direct it at anyone. I'd like to see this thread stay clean. Have fun! B)

I slept in until after 7 this morning, and when I got up to look outside... boom, reality hit. We have a very thick frost this a.m., and Thanksgiving is coming up next week. It's another year, winding down. A bright spot will be the big auto shows of course, and maybe a nice blanket of snow to go 4 wheeling in, otherwise, I am already looking forward to spring. Does anyone have snow yet?

I'm just fascinated that this is my 1234th post. Sequence... yeah... Anyways, I don't know where these next few weeks are going to lead me. I thought I was on my way out of the depression, but I'm heading back into it. Just so much crap is bothering me. There's my GA, which I'm not sure I really wanted to sell in the first place. I mean, I've always talked about it but now that I actually have to, I almost don't want too. But I have to. I need my own form of transportation as I've been trapped in this hell-hole of a house for almost 2 weeks now. I'm going insane. I wake up, go to school, come home, and basically be bored all freakin&#…

Lets face it the latest cars out of GM are light years better than what it had been producing for the last twenty years. Look at the new Caddy's and the new Vette not to mention the SSR and the new SUV's and I think the company should be renamed to pay tribute where it is due. On this forum the new name for GM should be... LUTZWAGON!!!!! Can i get an amen brothers and sisters. :metal:

Describe a car that you think would be desirable? What would be your perfect next car. How big would it be? How would it be powered? Describe it's overall shape and its interior and the color you would choose for both the inside and outside of the car. Which bodystyle would you choose. Feel free to invent body styles that still do not exist. And of course, how much chrome would you like on your car, and where?

Does anyone know why the website "GMIsidenews" behaves this way when info is linked from this site? Immediately they remove all threads that have linked info from Cheers&Gears. Not trying to pry, but, what gives? If I'm out of line asking this question just delete this thread and I apologize... But I'm very curious? <_<

Well Direct TV just put XM on the music channels. I actually use them often through the sterio. So anybody have any favorites ? Im only assuming they are titled the same nationally. Ive been listening to Deep Tracks thats been playing some stuff I forgot all about. Right now Pink Floyd from a BBC recording in 1970, wow, I think Im having a flashback. In the early 70's I used to listen to this station that came out of RPI college in Troy NY, those college students always played this more progressive non commercial music and thats what its like listening to this now. It was like the underground back then.

today i had a visit from lost prevention at blockbuster and they informed me that i had been naughty by giving the neighboring restuarant videos for food. they charged me for every movie i "rented" to them which comes to $200. so that sucks. but on the good side i got another job within 5 minutes of being fired, at the resturant next door...i was also given 2 beers while filling out my application. so its not all bad. just thought it was a bit interesting and thought i would share. anyone got similar stories???

I was thinking, what if someone made a rim that had springs inside? So when you hit a bump, the actual wheel could compress a bit to absorb the bump.

All of this talk of replacing the GA inspired me to play it for the first time in months. Ya know... drove some of my Hondas. :D *hides in corner*

clicky This isn't a bad article on the subject. It looks at the BIG picture (inproved fuel economy vs cost of buying a hybrid). If mathematics causes your brain to lock-up, you'd be best to skip the article. The quick and dirty summary: Gas-electric hybrids are the most fuel-efficient passenger cars on the road and ecologically there isn't a more viable option. Until something big changes, though, the industry-high efficiency can't economically offset the steep sticker price.

Well, a few weeks back, when I was working (getting carts actually), I saw this lady in a Pacifica totally run into the rear end of a parked Suburban. She was trying to just pull into a parking spot and totally NAILED it. She parked at the end of the lot 'til the 'Burb pulled away (without a scratch OR notification of the accident), and I got to see her dented/scraped quarter-panel and shattered headlight. Then, tonight, I ran up to the autostore that's next door to my work. I'm walking out and CRASH! This lady in a S10 ran into the "Handicap Parking" pole! She was trying to maneuvre around it, and ran into it, smashing her door, mirror,…

There's a ton of Impalas on the road....of course it helps that there is a pretty sizable rental fleet of them too, but plenty of them are being bought as well...expect dub rims on a lot of them by January. I have a feeling the 3LT with the 17" split-star wheels will be the most popular seller, because it simply looks good stock. As far as the Civic, the coupe seems to be appearing three times as much as the sedan so far. Over at FoMoCo, I've seen three times as many Zephyrs as Fusions....and not one Milan yet. The Zephyr might be a bigger hit than we thought. Quite a few Range Rover Sports (an SUV I like) as well. The Charger's doing great...just l…

While out today, standing at a street corner waiting for the walk light, I heard this throaty whail from a car behind me, and not having seen it, immediately I thought that sounds like an Infinity G35 Coupe....sure enough turned to see and it was. It has a great throaty warble to its exhaust. Some others I like are the new Corvette and the Mustang as well as the Audi 4(8cyl). Of course I just love the sound of an eight.

Motoring Memories: Buick Wildcat, 1962-1970 Story and photo by Bill Vance Buick was long known as a somewhat conservative car, the type favoured by people like doctors and bank mangers. It used overhead valve straight-eight engines exclusively from 1931 to 1952 (its overhead valve V8 came in 1953), and carried an image of muted prestige - more than an Oldsmobile, but not quite the ostentation of a Cadillac. Occasionally however, there was a stepping out of character, and into the performance arena. Examples were the 1936 Century, named for its 161 km/h (100 mph) top speed, and the audacious, turbocharged 1982 Grand National. Another was the Wildcat, an unex…

I went to a screening of this movie last week. I know most people are going to dismiss it as the "gay cowboy movie", and if you can't get past one short sex scene (which doesn't show anything), you won't like it- but Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway have nude scenes (and are quite fine), so it's something for everyone. This is a movie that makes me glad that I still on occasion work with actors. Everyone involved gives incredible performances. I never thought I'd say this, but Heath Ledger should get an Oscar. It's a great movie.

We here at Wrestling Edge pass our condolences to the Guerrero family, his friends and World Wrestling Entertainment. More details on Eddie's tragic passing will be forthcoming. I can not for the life of me figure out what this Pontiac is. I've narrowed it down to a '66, '67, or '68 model and I'm leaning toward a Catalina or possibly a Tempest, but every one has different headlights and taillights from this one. How many models did Pontiac have in the 60s?? I've counted GTO, Tempest, Firebird, Catalina, Beaumont, Laurentian, Bonneville, Grand Prix, Ventura, Parisienne, Strato Chief and probably others I'm forgetting. This is driving me nuts! The pics

As tested fuel mileage, Civic: 17.79 mpg As tested fuel mileage, Charger: 23.7 mpg Now I know they had to rev the piss out of the Civic to get it moving, but this is ridiculous. I'm just going to link to that the thread over there. http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/showthre...&threadid=50583 So guys... what should I do? Is this a calling for me to replace it or is it worth fixing? I just don't know what to do anymore. I'm out of a car as it stands, now, and with out one I don't have transportation to get a job so I can afford a nice car. I... just don't know. :(

About an hour ago, an F3 tornado touched down in the NW part of Ames. I haven't heard anything on the damage up there, but I got a pic of the tornado as it was going back up into the sky. I'm ok and the Iowa State campus was unaffected. They had to evacuate Jack Trice Stadium because people were there for the ISU - Colorado game. We never get tornadoes in November!

Its been a great car (2001 gls loaded) It had 50k miles on it half of them are hard city miles and let me tell you new rochelle has the biggest potholes in the world. Well, today I didn't have much going on and was going to drive out and see some tornado damage, but most of the roads were blocked off so I decided to go dealer hopping instead. The first place I went to was Willey Ford-Lincoln-Mercury in Ames. They had 3 Fusions, 1 Milan, 1 Zephyr, 5 Mustangs (all V6s...I never saw any GT on the entire trip), 4 Montegos, 2 Five Hundreds, and 3 of the new '06 Grand Marquis. The CD3 trio looks great in person...after seeing all three, the Zephyr is now my favorite. It's funny because I used to not like the Zephyr, but seeing it in real life is a whole different story. It had to be a late model last-gen car because it had the polished, non-5 spoke rims on it. It really hit home for me, seeing this car, that Pontiac should have offered a six cylinder alternative available on the GTO body shell, called it a LeMans or Tempest, and watched the sales come in much better than the $32k V8 Goat. I firmly believe that a six cylinder model would have ensured the GTO's success, and there would have been no question there'd be a modern gen II car.

Didn't want to throw this into the GM Merchandise forum, since these arent readily available. But, since I was cleaning up around here and found these I thought I'd snap a couple pics and throw 'em up. I mentioned these to Cort last week. Got these in fall of '84 when the '85s came out. These were the ones on the wall at the Chevy dealer. They are fairly thick cardboard. Wanted the Vette and Camaro ones, but a salesman snagged them. So I ended up with a bunch, but these are the only two I have left. I had Chevette, Citation X-11, Astro, and Silverado ones (those that I can remember anyway). Funny part was that in '89, I bought an '85 Eurosport like this one exce…

I've been following this a lot more recently and many medical professionals are voicing serious concerns that this flu epidemic isn't something we should take lightly. Some are estimating that as many as 300 million people could die and the flu could spread across the entire globe in a matter of weeks due to air travel. Here's a post I found on another message board: Here's a map of where the current flu outbreaks are. It's now starting to spread into Eastern Europe and I just read a report of an infected flamingo found in Kuwait, the first case of the virus in the Arabian Peninsula. Langley is to be first operational AFB for the F/A-22. The Aircraft flying along with the F/A-22 in several of these photos is the F-15D, which will be replaced by the F/A-22 since testing by the USAF has verified predictions that the F/A-22 would be several times better than the F-15. Ok, the reverse lights on my Crapalier don't work. And since they are BOTH out, chances are its not a light bulb issue, so that leads to electrical. I don't think the fuse is blown as the fuse I pulled that was marked for reverse lamps was also powering something else that DID work. It was suggested by Valvoline mechanic that it may be something in the shifter lever, as I drive a manual. Anyone have any idea? I'm not TOO worried about it, as I live in the city and the streets and parking lots are lit fairly well, but I'd like to get this fixed because I don't like to have anything on my car NOT working.

Why is everybody ending their sentences with this phrase?? I've heard it three times today from three different people and it's getting to the point where it's just downright annoying. Was it on some movie or TV show that I missed? I hadn't heard anyone use it until about a month and a half ago, and now it's infested itself into the campus lingo like a virus. Here's some examples of its usage: Amanda: "Yeah, I took my physics test today and did pretty bad...I'm not gonna lie." Bob: "Yeah, this dining food sucks today...I'm not gonna lie." Why?

Well I am sort of considering getting a 1999 or 2000 STS. My question is are there any Northstar performance parts out there? This engine seems perfect for modding and I am surprised there arent more parts out there. Anyone know where i might find some parts? Thanks

when will the "other guys" start using this standard for engine ratings, and do you think that it would have any effect on what buyers would look for....an SAE rated car vs. and non SAE rated car? one more condition on that, since GM is the only one doing it, (right now, right?) how will it effect things after a few more brands use this standard. one way this could be usefull is if you the powercurves on the performance models and over lay them with the competitions power curves. this make sense? sorry if it doesn't.

Not work safe (well it's borderline) I'd love to own this bad boy, check out that spedometer. just to be abl;e to say the name to people would be worht the price of admision. It's like: "I went for a ride in my Classic Cadillac today..." {oh, what do you have? waht year & model?} "It's a 1947 Cadillac Scoville and Sayers hearse..." {blank stare} I think these are the "Suicide Girls" posing wiht it, I saw an HBO special on them once. Checked the website but if it was them the pics with the car are not up yet... (read the auction writeup if you're scratching your head) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...bayphotohosting …

Well, Thursday the SES light illuminated in my Aurora, which coincided with an increasingly loud growling noise from the engine bay. Over the course of the day, it grew louder and was noticable under acceleration close to the shift points. Since I finished up work late, I had to wait 'till Friday to get it looked at. Took it to a local Gemini/Goodyear shop since I know the gents and they were able to squeeze me in as soon as they opened and they, well, couldn't get at it to figure it out. I call Scott Buick and they were apparently so swamped it wouldn't be 'till 2pm that I could take it down. Damn. Next stop, Dick Norris B-P-GMC where we bought our …

Anyone know of any dealers in their area that pair odd makes together? For instance, in Lexington there are several that not only pair together two makes that don't go together, but makes from completely different manufacturers! There's Glenn Nissan/Infiniti/Mitsubishi/Hyundai/GMC/Buick just down the road from me. Glenn also has a Toyota dealer in Nicholasville. And then you've got Courtesy Pontiac/Acura right across the road from Man'o'War Ford (not related). One of the ODDEST is Don Jacob's BMW/Volkswagen/Honda. He use to also sell Olds from that same lot in days gone by. Then there's Quantrell Cadillac/Hummer/Saab/Volvo/Saturn. I…

My father's Bonneville is getting up in miles (98k and change) and my car is as well, but mine is almost a decade old while his is a little over five. The reason for the near 20,000mi/yr average for his car is that his job requires that he drive anywhere between 40 and 100 miles a day five days a week, sometimes even a bit more. So far, the Bonneville has proved itself an exemplary car with only a broken oil pressure sensor as the only non-accident related problem since the factory warranty expired. We have a 100,000-miles extended warranty through Geico with a rather high deductable to cover most major issues, but obviously that's coming close to the end. So, …

Well, I more or less have my college picked out. I sent in an application a couple months back and was accepted within the next few weeks. Then a few weeks ago they sent me a $7500 scholarship per year for 4 years. Not bad considering it costs about $14,600 yearly.. so I more or less cut that in half. Anyway, it's called Kettering University, but is formerly known as GMI (General Motors Institute) Engineering and Management Institute. It's supposed to be a really good engineering school. My counselor got all wide-eyed when I told her I was accepted.. let alone getting a scholarship. She said that they're highly selective, but whatever. Anyways, her…

Well, I haven't yet, but probably will.... Anyways... :D I went looking at new cars yet again! Yay! My first trip was to Brockway. The dealer was meathead Eazer Chevrolet-Pontiac. What did they have, you ask? Well, well, well... a G6 GT coupe. It was black. Looked awesome and again much better than expected. But, I'll let the pics do the talking... My second trip was over to Dubois. The first dealer was Osbourn Pontiac-Buick-GMC. What did they have, you ask? A few G6 GTP coupes and a few Torrents. Again, I'll let the pics speak... My third trip was over to Murray's Honda also in Dubois. I saw the new Civic coupe once again. My thoughts: Lo…

It's pretty lame but it lifted my spirits, if only for a sec. when I got it in my email. ------------ A cabbie picks up a nun. She gets into the cab, and notices that the very handsome cab driver won't stop staring at her. She asks him why he is staring. He replies: "I have a question to ask you, but I don't want to offend you." She answers, "My son, you cannot offend me. When you're as old as I am nd have been a nun as long as I have, you get a chance to see and hear just about everything. I'm sure that there's nothing you could say or ask that I would find offensive." "Well, I've always had a fantasy to have …

Other than "Whats the stupidest question you've ever been asked" what is the stupidest question you've ever been asked. I had a chick at work ask what "ball funk" was the other day. She once asked what rasisina are made out of, but I wasn't around for that. Worse than that, a few months ago, sitting in the lecture hall waiting fro my Bio class to start, the gil who sat behind me asked if lettuce was a plant.

I was thinking the other day that Metro would be a great name for a Smart-like city car, but GM had to ruin the name by putting it on that shitbox, although I guess it was kind of a city car, it was just a pile of crap. Skylark was ruined by those pointy-nosed things Buick tried to sell.

Last night as I was sitting alone and pitiful, enjoying my dinner at a local spot, in walks a pair of folks that made me stare a bit: a little, gray haired with glasses skinflint, 5'2" white dude in his late 50's, with a 5'10" black girl in her 30's, with a Supremes hairdo. Made the rest of the room look boring. Does anyone else enjoy the sport of "people watching"?

I have a few others, took this while in a hurry today. This phone is HOT! It's a demo being tested so there are a few bugs but damn man, it's sweet. Also it's not too shiny, however it is a flat black color on plastic. The phone does however feel very, very rigid and stable.

Ok... so I might be 25, but that's no reason not to carve a pumpkin... Enjoy! :D If it's not clear, the pumpkin has Cadillac crests for eyes, a Pontiac emblem for a nose and a Chevrolet bowtie for a mouth. I know, I didn't carve the Buick, GMC,Saturn etc. emblems. My carving ability is still at a child's level. Sorry about the poor image quality... I took this with my phone.
