So, I had to take my car to the body shop to get my bumper repaired after being rear-ended awhile back and I went to Enterprise to get my rental car and they had a shiny rental car white Dodge Stratus waiting for me. I casually asked if there were any GM products available and the girl goes "isn't dodge a GM vehicle?" and I just left it at that so they gave me the keys and I took off in my little four-banger. In a way, I'm kinda glad I didn't get a GM car because it would have made me want to trade in my 00 Grand Prix GT so driving the Stratus around made me hate every second of having a rental car. It was weak, it got horrid mileage (I am partially to blame fo…

Once in a while if there's nothing good on TV and Sofia wants to to watch some cartoons I'll throw in one of our several seasons of the Simpsons on DVD. After having watched the ENTIRE 4th season twice already in the past few months I decided to look at the special features last night... Funny stuff. For some fantasticly hillarious reason they decided to include the Kamp Krusty episode in the bonus features in several interesting languages. The two that caught my eye as interesting were Brazilian Portugese and Japanese. So I'm bored and I decide, why not.... I'll watch Kamp Krusty in Japanese. Just for the sheer hilarity. If for nothing else, Homer say…

1969 Chevrolet Impala - A Car In August (Published in "Motor Trend", November 1968) (Top) An infinite prairie of grass accentuates Impala changes for 1969, including flared wheel wells and ventless side glass. Although Impala sports entirely new sheetmetal, subtle body changes are not immediately apparent. (Above) 1969 trunk space is adequate and similar in size to 1968. Spare is still far forward and difficult to reach for women. (Right) Equipment fills floor and bucket seat. Chevy bucket seats are contoured to fit the back firmly and are extremely comfortable; there is little sliding or swaying in even the tightest corners. If you want to test a 1969 Chevro…

It's that time of year when the Salvation Army guys are standing on busy street corners or outside your local supermarket with their red bucket while jingling their little bell. I don't really mind giving when I have change. I've given a dollar here and there but does anybody feel pangs of guilt or selfishness when you simply walk past the guys or say you don't have any change (whether you do or not)? I dunno....even when I really don't have any change on me, I feel a liitle guilt.

I don't know WTF is going on but I have not gone a week in the past few months without having a really freeky and whacked out nightmare. Last night I found myslef in the elaborate Baroque Dinning room of a Serial Killer. He had one of those fancy James Bond style multi purpose canes and was telling me how I was going to meet a violent death. When he said something about hurting my family though I just snapped and somehow got in a mortal wound on him with a fancy knife that was carefully placed on the table in one of dozens of elaborate place settings. It seemed like there was a good three minutes of my dream (nightmare) where I ended up cutting his neck so badly wi…

How many things would you do differently if you could go back with the knowledge you have now? I can think of several major changes in my life that I would love to make if I could go back in time. But here's a recent one: Instead of trying to pull a Hero Stunt J-turn in the middle of the racetrack after a half a lap in reverse at 40mph, I would pull off onto the grass and turn around safely and avoid a bone crunching rear end that disbled my Volvo and put me out of the Halloween Howler race. New spyware could prevent drivers from speeding CTV.ca News Staff Many motorists would balk at the idea of an electronic back-seat driver that forcefully prevents them from speeding. But a new device being road-tested by Transport Canada could mean breaking the speed limit will no longer be an option. Using global positioning satellite technology and a digital speed-limit map, the device makes it difficult for drivers to press down on the accelerator once they go above a certain speed limit. The idea is sure to appeal to many road-safety experts, but the researcher in charge of the project admits some drivers will not welcome the idea of a machine that forces…

...but not selling a whole lot: Collier Motors sits on Highway 117 in Pikeville, North Carolina. Its owned by Robert Collier, whose family sold American Motors cars and its predecessors at least back from the 1950s. AMC was bought out by Renault in 1982 and apparently Collier didn't want anything to do with being owned by a French car manufacturer, so he apparently disassociated from them and went on his own selling his inventory of AMCs. Needless to say, he didn't sell many, so fe in fact, what was left of his stock of AMCs and other (used?) cars sat...and sat...and sat...and rusted into place while the lot grew over with vegatation. Link: http://www.autoextremist.com/page2.shtml#Rant Detroit. Every once in a while, a story comes along that gets us shaking our heads in bemused disbelief. But this week's story may just take the cake. Rick Kranz and Peter Brown reported in Automotive News that J Mays and Jim Padilla have decided that internal design constraints have cost Ford dearly in terms of design "reach" - and that they're going to free up the design process so that Ford's mainstream designs won't suffer from the calculated blandness that they've displayed all too frequently of late (e.g., Ford Five Hundred sedan, Freestar minivan, etc.). Padilla and Mays took great…

Just made my first purchase last week, and I'm really brand new to this eBay thing. I was the winning bid for some equipment 7 days ago, and of course had to wait until Wednesday for the PayPal transfer to clear (since the funds weren't aleready up). I have been having annoying problems since day 1. After my first highway trip in the thing I started to get a strange noise out of the front end while turning the wheel. So, I go back again, and they tell me it is the strut. So I wait 6 weeks for the part to come in. They replace that. Guess what, the noise went away, until my trip to Banff. Now I…

I just ordered Sirius today. I was asking for satellite radio it for Christmas but Circuit City has a sale on a certain receiver ($100 off) and Sirius is giving another $50 off so that means a $150 receiver is free. I'm not going to hardwire it to my car because I don't feel like dealing with the problems of doing it myself or paying to have it done professionally, plus I'm asking for the home kit for Christmas now. I'll just do it through FM transmission. Thanksgiving has now passed, but not without some pain. Well, here's what has all happened... First off, it started out bad. My house only has one bathroom and that's for four people. Don't you just love it when you had plans to do something (like a trip or something) and someone bails out and cancels at the VERY last minute? So either you do what you had planned alone or not even bother. Granted sometimes they've canceled because something tragic or important happen that I can understand, but when they cancel because "they don't feel like it" just... I don't know why, but crap like this happens to me all the time and it's not with just one friend in particular it's with quite a few of them. I've been an advocate of RWD my whole life, but the upcoming Monte Carlo SS, I gotta admit, has me dreaming. My latest scheme is this... How about a white one with Ebony cloth interior (too bad there's no blue) and I'd add blue tape stripes around the bottom exactly like the '83 (except for the lettering)? For some odd reason I'd love to see what that would look like. Does that sound 80's retro cool or hopelessly tacky? These days, all the talk is about how Detroit is losing X amount of market share each year to imports. Well, I did a little thinking about it tonight and have written up this nice little example to show it in a different light of thinking: For simplicity's sake, I'll only deal with 4 companies and small numbers In 1900, there are two companies, GM and Ford. Each company sells 1 car in that year, meaning that they each hold 50% market share. Then in 1950, a newcomer, Mercedes, comes to the US market. While GM and Ford have each sold 10 cars, Mercedes sells 2 cars that year. Calculating that out with 22 cars total for that year, GM's market share is 45%, …

There's just no words.... I remember in my Integra days, when the stock wheels were all stolen and the car was left on bricks. Or when it was broken into downtown to steal some BS beat-up leather jacket (and a few of my mixtapes, which really hurt). Then after 4 years, when the car itself was stolen (with my backpack inside of it, which had my favorite sketchbook and a notebook full of ideas)...the two times that sandwiched the break-in had me angry that I couldn't hear a thing. Can't forget how the Pontiac was busted into for a crappy aftermarket stereo. I didn't care about the stereo, but did they have to tear my dash panel up? That's a rare &#…

The first electrical appliance turns 100 years old November 16, 2005 It came after the electric light and before radio, television, microwave ovens, blenders, juicers, computers - indeed, it was the first electrical appliance to populate the home and one of only a handful of devices in history to achieve ubiquity in advanced nations. Interestingly, although it turns 100 years old this year, it can still be found in more than 90% of American homes. As the first electrical appliance, this also means we are now celebrating 100 years of electrical appliances. Oh, and by the way, can you guess what it is? Now toast is not new, first having become common about 5,000 years…

On live TV. They say either he took a puck or a stick to the throat. He collapsed while on the bench exiting the ice, shortly after the Wings instantly called for a medic and C.P.R. began. Lets hope this is not as bad as it looks on T.V.

Hey guys, long time no post, but I was reading this article and wanted to share it. I know how some people on here like to talk and a lot of the time its pretty enlightening stuff. But my upbringing was pretty politically oriented in the sense that stubborn Irish Catholics love to fight with eachother over anything after a few rounds, and in Massachusetts its usually politics. But Bobby Kennedy wasn't even a Massachusetts liberal, he was pretty much the first and the last of an age of reform in the sense that he was supposed to start a revolution, or atleast be the first of a new line of leaders as visionary as he was. He was before my time, but I think we all want a …

Okay, so here's what happened today. During one of my preps, this woman brought up how much she HATED her car and would never buy another American car as long as she lived. She has a 2001 Alero, and has had nothing but problems (power window motors burning out of the rarely used back windows, power door locks burning out, radio malfunctions, etc.) The topic in the conference room just became what to buy, what would you get, blah blah blah. This is basically what the poll came out to just by hearing people's responses: What they said, "Most reliable to least reliable" 1) Japanese cars 2) German cars 3) Korean cars 4) American cars So, I interjected…

So the other day while at a junkyard I notice a mid 70s Datsun pickup sitting there, sinking into the mud slowly but surely. And I noticed the old school obnoxious Datsun emblem was still attached to the frail plastic grille. Well, I've been waiting to find a big Datsun emblem so I could replace the NISSAN badge on the grill of the Maxima so this was the day. Check out the results below. Also, in another thread recently I said I'd post the pictures of the custom cut vinyl decals I affixed to the Datsun. Here they are... Clockwise from top left: Just below the passanger side headlight, driver's side fender & trunklid. Yes it's ric…

I saw these and really wanted to share them. I don't any negative comments in here, I am tired of those. So if anybody has anything good to say about this incredibly attractive woman, I mean, come on, I'm salivating over these pictures. Anyways, I know she doesn't always look her best, and it has to do with how she stands, her posture, but these pictures are freakin' phenomonal. Again, only positive things please. Thanks. And I won't to see this die either, without someone commenting...

I love this ad. If I was thinking about buying a BMW 3-series and I saw this in some magazine in the late 1980s I'd think twice. Turbo

I rented a couple of movies last night from the everloving Blockbuster. One of them was The Incredibles. It was my first time seeing it, what a fun, action packed story! I love it. I also asked for the earlier version of Crash, with one of the Arquette sisters (no, not Alexis, ha) and I think James Spader and a fine Lincoln Continental convertible... unfortunately, they don't carry it... why was I not surprised. Has anyone seen any good movies lately, either first-run or home video?

Siegen's comment about no one buying a $40,000 minivan had me thinking, so I did this... Note these buildouts don't include things like engine block heaters, handsfree phone packages (unless part of an equipment bundle), and all those DIOs like mudflaps, door trim, etc. Just factory options. Toyota Sienna XLE Limited w/AWD - $44,567 Lexus LX470 - $73,464 Mercedes R500 - $85,265 Most surprising: Ford Ranger FX4 Level II - $29,895

For the car you drive the most (your primary vehicle), which automaker does it belong to? I don't think we've had an actual poll of this before, but I was kinda interested to see how many members of C&G actually drive GM cars and trucks.

Then why don't you spend a little more on a proper trailer so when you tow your ugly beige Accord around it doesn't SWING INTO THE LANE NEXT TO YOU!! Yeah. Because the weather is so mild here this time of year, we're getting more and more idiots in these big RVs down here clogging the left lanes and taking up eight spaces at the mall. I wish I had a rocket launcher.
